First Lady of Private Garden
Tumblr media
AN: Hello my babies! This is the back story for the first lady of PG! Hope yall like this! 💕
Synopsis: How you met the love of your life and came to be the first lady of Private Garden
Pairing: Jack Harlow x Rapper!Reader
Please do not repost my content anywhere
You were 10 when you first started rapping.
You grew up listening to Outkast, Jay-Z, Kanye West, T.I., Lil Wayne, and the list goes on.
That was primarily your older sister's fault.
Anything she did, you followed suit.
That included listening to the same music that she did.
You grew up in Atlanta which happened to be one of the best places to break into the industry.
Your plans were ruined when your father's job relocated to Louisville, Kentucky out of all places when you were 14 and as far as you were concerned your life was over.
Leaving family and friends behind along with the city that you loved irritated you to no end.
Having to start over was not at the top of your to-do list but you had no choice.
So you decided to make the best of it.
It had been almost a week now in Louisville and you we're still learning to adjust with everything when you met him.
Jack.
He was your neighbor who lived across the street from you and you had remembered him from your history class.
You were a little shy and didn’t want to approach him first, so luckily he did it for the both of you.
Once Jack had set his eyes on you, it was over for everyone else.
You can admit that those glasses and those pretty blue eyes of his instantly had you hooked.
Once you had showed interest in him, he turned red as a tomato.
You don't know what it was but you two instantly clicked.
You were then introduced to Urban, 2forwoyne, shloob, ace pro, quiiso, and nemo.
Whenever anyone saw any one of them they saw you too.
Of course there were rumors floating around since you were the only girl who hung out with a bunch of guys.
You knew they were just jealous because of how close you were to them and they quickly became your close group of friends.
But, the closest friendship you had was with Jack.
And everyone knew even if there wasn’t an official title to go along with what your relationship entailed, you were Jack’s girl and therefore completely off limits.
Since you two literally lived across the street from each other there were plenty of times when the both of you would be laying in the backyard looking up at the stars and confessed your goals, fears, or simply making jokes to pass the time.
Especially in the summer time.
You had known Jack for a year before he officially asked you to be his girlfriend.
Of course you said yes.
Who could resist those cheeks and baby blue eyes?
You figured he was tired of everyone saying that the both of you needed to confess your feelings to put everyone else out of their misery.
Jack had been your first everything.
Your first boyfriend, your first kiss, and you still remember that summer when you were fifteen when the two of you had sex for the first time.
You knew Jack wanted to be a rapper so there were plenty of times when you would help him write songs.
One thing that you both shared was your love for music.
And when you found out Maggie loved Outkast and Public Enemy it was all she wrote.
You admit that the first few songs that you wrote weren't very good, but you got better with time.
After awhile, Jack was getting recognition along with The Homies in Louisville and a lot of people were starting to recognize who they were.
It wasn’t until one day when Jack had taken you out for an ice cream date to celebrate him getting his license (you just knew he was about to hit something while driving there) that you had a revelation.
If he really wanted to do this, there had to be some changes.
“Stink?”
“Yes, mamas?”
“If you truly want to do this and have people listening to your music the way you want them to. We have to move.”
“Move where?”
“Atlanta. I know for a fact someone will recognize your talent as much as I have.”
“But... I’ve never left here before.”
“It’s a risk you have to be willing to take. Whatever happens, I’m behind you 100%. Besides, if it goes left, we can always come back here and I can have my farm like I always wanted.”
“For a city girl, you came down here and we definitely brought the country out of you.”
“We’re going to have horses, pigs, turtles...”
“Slow your roll, baby girl. One thing at a time.”
You two were now walking in a comfortable silence at Cherokee Park which had quickly become one of your favorite places in Louisville. Especially when Jack was with you. He had his arm around your shoulder and pulled you into him even closer if that was possible before completely coming to a halt, leaving you confused.
“What’s wrong?” You curiously asked while you finished off the last of your ice cream. The ice cream that Jack ate most of, but anyway.
“You really think I can do this?”
“Are you doubting yourself?”
“Well.... no... uhh.... kinda.”
“You’ll have me and The Homies behind you. We aren’t going anywhere and as long as I have something to do with it, all of yall are going to be on the charts.”
And you weren’t lying.
That’s when Private Garden was born.
Jack felt that it was only right to make you first lady seeing how you would always write for him as well as The Homies.
He wouldn't take no for an answer.
You wouldn't dare let any of them know that you actually rapped too. Any time you did, you made sure you were completely by yourself.
Making you first lady also included him proposing to you in your backyard randomly when you had celebrated your 19th birthday a week prior.
It was one in the morning, cold as shit outside since it was the middle of December, but you wanted to look at the stars and Jack could never tell you no. You were currently laying on his chest as a blanket was wrapped around both of you when you just knew this white boy had lost his fucking mind.
“We should get married.”
“Jackman, are you high?”
“No, but even if I was my answer wouldn’t change. Every since I saw your cute little self with those braids in your hair when you first moved here, I didn’t want anyone else.”
“Wait... you’re fucking serious? Jack our parents will kill us.”
“Can’t kill us if they don’t know.”
“I hope you don’t expect me to give you an answer with that horrible ass proposal you just did.”
“Y/N Y/M/N Y/L/N will you do me the honor of becoming Mrs. Jackman Thomas Harlow. Can’t live without you stink.”
“Well, since you’re practically begging me to, yes. Now where’s my ring?”
“About that...”
“Jack, you literally proposed to me without a ring?”
“The thought just popped in my head just now! I didn’t really think this through.”
“Jackman!”
“When I make my first million, I’m buying you the most beautiful ring that’s pear shaped since I know you love it so much. But I'll get you something else in the mean time."
You simply shrugged.
“I would’ve said yes to you even if you proposed with one of those rings from the bubble gum machines at the grocery store.”
“Damn, mamas. I got more money than that.”
“Jack, we have had to eat at my parents house and your parents house all week because we were tired of eating ramen at our apartment.”
“Touché.”
You still remember moving back to Atlanta which Jack knew that you were excited about, working at Chick-Fil-A at Georgia State with Jack and Urban and trying to write songs for Confetti at the same time.
You would often slip Jack’s mixtape in customers’ bags to give him any type of exposure that you possibly could.
He didn’t know that.
You were going to make sure your man was going to be successful one way or another.
All three of you would be in the back with Jack freestyling as you had your pen and paper to the side to write down lyrics that you actually liked and would be able to use in a song later in order to pass the time.
It was midnight on a Friday when you and Jack came up with the lyrics to Ghost and 2fo made the beat for it.
Jack ended up recording it in one take.
This is what the days would consist of.
Working during the day and writing and recording songs at night.
And Jack would perform anywhere and everywhere that people would let him.
You don’t know how it happened but sure enough DJ Drama caught on to who Jack was and wanted to meet him.
"Babe... this is huge."
"It is."
"If that's you being excited I'm going to need for you to change it up a little bit for me."
"I am excited for you but I'm not surprised. I tell you every day how proud I am of you and that your time is coming. People are gonna stop sleeping on you."
"And I got you by my side to experience it first hand."
You suddenly got a serious look on your face and looked up at him.
"What's wrong stink?"
"Promise me something."
"Anything for my girl."
"Never ever forget where you came from or who helped you to get to where you're going to go. Don't be like these other celebrities who get a little taste of fame and act as if they're too good for anyone. If you ever act like that I'll tell Maggie to kick your ass."
"That's one thing that you'll never have to worry about. Besides you would probably kick my ass before she does."
"Damn right."
Then there was one night when your secret was discovered as Jack had a late night in the studio recording his album That’s What They All Say.
"I throw that ass back to see if he gon' catch it
Ain't athletic but it's tennis for the necklace, yeah
Ayy where that cash at, I stack it like Tetris
Real gutter bitch, real plugs and connections
First I make him eat it 'til he lockjaw
Give it to him good, knock a nigga socks off, uh
I run it up, they busy runnin' they mouth
I'm a real ass, rich ass, bitch from the South"
As you were saying the last line, you and Jack made eye contact and you wanted to disappear into thin air.
You weren't expecting him for at least another hour and spent that time looking over the songs you had essentially written for yourself.
It was drop dead silent for a good thirty seconds before either of you spoke.
No one had ever heard you rap before and you had wanted for it to stay that way.
"Y/N!!!"
"You heard NOTHING Jackman!"
"How.. what... BABE!!"
"Stop it's not even that good!" You quickly threw your notebook to the side that had all your lyrics in it hoping that your husband would drop it.
"Says who!?!?"
"I was just messing around."
"That did not sound like messing around to me. We have to put you on too."
"Absolutely not! I will write, I will produce and that's it!"
"Babe, that was fire though."
"You're just saying that cause I'm your wife."
You responded while rolling your eyes and trying to hide your face in your pillow.
Jack then came over to sit next to you on the bed and pulled you into his chest.
"Stink, look at me."
You did as you were told and he was simply smiling at you.
"No I'm really not. Wait until the rest of PG..."
"No! I don't want them to know."
"But, why not?" Jack was suddenly looking confused. As much as you pushed him and the rest of PG to be their best selves, he wanted the same for you.
"I just... let's just focus on you first."
At this point, Jack knew that there was no convincing you for anything.
But he'll try later.
He was going to make sure everyone knew who the first lady of Private Garden was and how talented she is by any means necessary.
"Fine, but..."
"But, what?"
"You have to promise me that you'll record your songs."
"Jackkkkk." You now hid in the crook of his neck and started to play with his beard. Something you tend to do when you got nervous when he was around.
"I didn't say release baby. Record it. How many songs do you have written for yourself anyway?"
"Hmm at least sixty." You mumbled and he looked at you with wide eyes.
"SIXTY?!"
With the success of the release of Jack's debut album, he was on cloud nine and so was the rest of PG.
It happened.
He finally did it.
He deserved every bit of this success and you were just happy to be along for the ride.
It was around 2 am and you and Jack were currently in the middle of a movie marathon. You were only half paying attention since you were so busy kissing Jack all over his face.
He didn't seem to mind, so you kept doing it.
You were now kissing the freckles on the right side of his face and you were trying to soak in all of this one on one time now before you all went on tour.
Where ever Jack went, you went too.
No exceptions.
The first thing he would always let people know is how you were his girl and how he was so proud of you.
You weren't quite sure what he was proud of you for, but you took the compliment anyway.
Simply because only the members of PG knew you were married and were sworn to secrecy.
Your hands started to get cold so you reached under Jack's shirt and rested them on his abs earning not only him jumping but a groan from him as well.
"Got damn baby! Why are you so cold? You have literally been sitting on top of me for the last four hours."
"You know I'm always cold and you're always so warm and cuddly." You responded while scooting closer and he quickly embraced you and kissed your forehead.
"I did a thing..."
"Jackman..."
You absolutely hated when he started off sentences like that. The last time he did that he had gotten you a brand new car. Even though you still kept stealing the keys to his jeep.
"It's nothing bad."
"It better not be. You stay getting me worked up."
"I'm surprised you didn't notice yet and I mean I can take care of that right now if you're worked up."
"Notice what? And I'm not acknowledging that last part."
"Pull up the credits for my album."
"Uhh why?"
"Just do it."
"What is this? A Nike ad?"
"Baby!"
"Fine."
Once you pulled them up, you were scrolling until you got to executive producer: Y/N Y/L/N Harlow
"JACKMAN!"
"Listen. I did it for a reason."
"And that would be what!?"
You just hoped no one would notice he put both of your last names on there.
"If... if something were to ever happen to me.."
"No stop. I don't like where this is going. I'm about to cry."
"Seriously stink. Listen to me." Jack grabbed your chin and made you look up at him before kissing you.
"Okay, I'm listening."
"If something were to happen to me, you would still get royalty checks from the album. So when we have kids, you'll be able to take care of them. I just want you to be good and not have to worry."
Your eyes instantly watered and you were trying to do anything that you could think of to keep them from falling.
"But... you're not leaving me any time soon, right?" You sniffed as Jack wiped away your tears.
"Baby, don't cry. Didn't mean to upset you. I'm not going anywhere, okay? Just wanted you to know that."
"You promise?"
"Always and forever, stink."
It was now the final show of the tour when Jack had pulled you aside from everyone else to give you something that you had been waiting a long time for before he went on stage.
It also happened to be your anniversary when the clock struck midnight.
"Stink?"
"Yes, my baby?"
"I cannot put into words how much I love you and how much I appreciate everything you do for me. Ever since we were 15, I knew you were something special and that I needed you in my life. You believed in me when I sometimes didn't believe in myself and you never let me quit. I felt like this is long overdue but it had to be just right for my princess."
"I'm always going to be here for you and I love you more." You responded while smiling up at him.
"Not even possible."
"Don't start!"
"Mrs. Harlow deserves to have her ring upgraded. Don't you think?"
He remembered.
You had always told him you thought pear shaped rings were the prettiest and seeing the one Jack just slid on your finger replacing the smaller one had your jaw on the floor.
The only time you mentioned it was when he proposed to you in your backyard after your 19th birthday and you haven’t said anything since.
"What you think mamas? You like it?"
"I love it, but I love the man who put it on my finger even more."
He simply reached down to kiss you as you wrapped your arms around him and nuzzled into his chest.
"There isn't anything in this world that I wouldn’t do for you."
“Right back at you.”
"Okay love birds! Jack 10 minutes before your set." You heard Neelam say since you weren't facing her and Jack had you in a bear hug.
"Okay."
Then he simply looked down at you and smirked.
"What?"
"It's time that people knew, Mrs. Harlow can do more than write bars."
"Jack... no."
"Naw, baby. You said focus on me first and we did that. Now it's your turn."
"But.."
"You pushed me ever since we were 15 to make this a reality and now it's here. Time for the queen of the south to debut. Besides Drama and PG are on board with it."
"YOU TOLD THEM?!"
"I might have let it slip the other day." Jack simply shrugged as you felt your heart begin to speed up.
"Just like you told me that day in Cherokee Park. I'm behind you 100% and if things go left we can go back to Kentucky and you can get your farm. But I know for a fact it won't."
"How can you be so sure?"
"Your last name is Harlow baby. Ain't nothin but winners in this family. So you in?"
"Let's do it."

Any likes, asks and reblogs appreciated and.... stay tuned for more things to come~
Tumblr media
Totally the type of duo to make username matched smurf accounts.
He was not sure what you would approve of, so he pushed his fantasies aside and pretended like he was also thinking of the duo name for the first time
You caught yourself overthinking, biting your lip in frustration, totally unaware of how hyperfocused Yunho was on your image on his screen.
Giving yourself a mental shove, you blurted out a suggestion, making Yunho glow at how unbelievably cute you were when even the tiniest bit shy.
And that was how you became "Ibbity & Obbity", homage to the two-player puzzle-platform coop game.
You two formed a rare dynamic. Having moved from chatting on Steam to Discord, you were happily alerting one another of when your ults were charged, or when you had a good opportunity to snipe someone, or when either of you needed support.
Initially, that was all you spoke about, with you not daring to deviate out of your comfort zone, and Yunho not wanting to hurt you or stop talking.
He could pay to hear you babble away about why one character was better than another or deep diving into why some obscure game's server crashed the other day.
These gaming sessions were almost instantly discovered by the other members, and the teasing was unstoppable.
Interestingly, Wooyoung, who had been there in the moment you two 'spoke' for the first time, kept it pretty tame, settling for suggestive winks and occasionally joining in if it was a game he liked (or if he was struggling with a part of Aenigmata - not that you would reveal any cheats)
Oh no, the most brutal was his best friend, Mingi, who had somehow convinced Hongjoong to record him covering the song "E-GIRLS ARE RUINING MY LIFE" and playing it at full volume while they were at dance practice and wanted to try a bit of freestyling to warm up.
Needless to say, that evening Yunho had been more bashful than you had ever seen him before, attempting to mask it with laughter that came to haunt you in the best way possible, and when he noticed Mingi slipping (read as barging) into his room, phone in hand, nearly drop kicked the poor guy.
And that was the moment you knew you never wanted your time with Yunho to end. Talking to him was effortless, and he had an undeniably positive influence on you while never overstepping boundaries or challenging you.
The sessions were becoming less about the game, and more about each other, as you began to inquire after how his day was, how we was feeling, if he ate.
If someone had hooked up the heart rate monitor to him the first time you had, after a long pause (to the point where Yunho started checking his wifi), veered off your usual topics and directly addressed him, asked about him and him alone... they would probably wonder how he was still alive.
Words spilled out of him like a waterfall as he shared with you all the stories he had saved but never would have guessedyou wanted to hear.
And oh boy, how you did. How you wanted to see what he saw, do what he did, go where he went. There was a pang of jealousy for just how connected he appeared to the outside world, and just how much love he got to experience day to day.
But for the time-being, you brushed that off, deeming it to be something insignificant. What mattered was that, Yunho was ecstatic, and you too, for the most part.
As time went on, he was getting busy with more schedules, practices and had to divert his attention back to, well, his job. With your gaming/deep talk calls starting later and later, getting shorter and shorter, it was obvious that your routine was quickly becoming unsustainable.
He was an idol after all, and his entire lifestyle did not constitute physically staying in one place.
And who were you? A person who was perfectly content with staying in the comfort of Cogent Studio or your apartment, living a digital daydream. Your world was far-removed from the sold out stadiums. Far removed from the huge teams of stylists, managers, designers, coaches, and, basically everyone who Yunho would normally interact with.
You were just pixels on his screen, an illusion. Extended fan service. He probably lied about liking Aenigmata just to appease you and fool you into spending every day thinking about him.
Why did he have to charm his way into your heart, most probably with the full knowledge that it was not going to go anywhere?
So you did what you did best. Shut down.
Yunho was in a panic? Did he do something wrong? Did something happen? Were you okay?
A day, two more passed, and you had not logged into neither Discord nor Steam, or were purposefully hiding from him. Yunho scouted all of your streamer friends, Twitter accounts, YouTube, quite literally all accounts that he could think to be associated with you, but found nothing except standard announcements and activity not related to you.
He was out of it. Though he was not slacking off, and as a matter of fact even added to his workload to try forgetting about you even if for just a second, both his members and eagle-eyed fans noticed a change in his demeanour.
The energy maker, the happy virus. Those titles now sounded more like a curse to him.
It was like you were malware in his brain that he could not trace nor erase. And while performing, while being there in front of thousands, all he could ponder was if there was a possibility you would be bothered to see clips from the concert.
His members, who initially were merciless with their jokes, assuming that this was nothing to worry about and you just got busy, saw that Yunho's disposition was getting progressively worse.
He would toss and turn as a bout of insomnia got the better of him, mich to the dismay of his roommates.
Normally respectful of the cleanliness in their apartment, Yunho became more absent-minded and, risking his own life, left paper cups on the kitchen counters a couple of times.
Mingi could not stand his friend suffering anymore, so being the creative genius he was he made a suggestion that may just be a ray of hope.
Go live, and play Ibb & Obb.
Whilst Yunho had been struggling to keep a straight face and not fall apart on stage, you were crumbling in total isolation.
You were communicating with your colleagues almost exclusively through Github, newly pushed code being the best way to see that you were still out there... somewhere
Your co-founder, being the sweetheart that he was, had taken over any social media interactions that required senior involvement
And the rest of your team instantly adapted to your hermit mode, seamlessly continuing to communicate with you but via less personal means.
Normally, this extreme reboot would have worked in a day, however things were not looking bright.
You were feeling heartbreak, and so acutely, that you was very much an illness.
And paired with the overwhelming sense of guilt, three days in after 'the ghosting' you completely ceased to function.
It was your friend, the one who had given you your light and darkness, your reality in the form of Jeong Yunho, that dragged you out of your bed sheet  cocoon.
You had been watching some of Yunho's fancams and funny moment compilations, simultaneously wanting to beat yourself up until you blacked out for letting such a wonderful, kind and understanding human go.
When you suddenly heard your front door SLAM OPEN, leaving you wondering if it entirely flew off its hinges or not, and saw your friend's figure in the door frame to your bedroom, in a battle pose.
"WAKE THE FUCK UP SAMURAI, WE'VE GOT A CITY TO BURN"
No amount of pleading could save your from the wrath of a friend who wanted to get you out of the wreck you created for yourself.
Once she had you cleaned up and forced you to change into a cute outfit "for the vibes", she sat you down and made you walk through, step by step, what happened.
Last time you had gone into such a state was because of your participation in a particularly large convention, where you had the opportunity to share the stage at an event with some legends of the game development scene.
And it would have been fun, had you not had a persistent fear gnawing at you, for hours on end as the event progressed. From the busy booths and  overcrowded fan events to the handshakes and talking and faces upon faces upon faces who all but blended into one large, disfigured and unidentifiable monster.
By some miracle you managed to stay standing, all the way until you walked into your hotel room, and had what had to be the closest thing to a personal apocalypse.
Since then, even a lateral association with crowds without a screen to separate you, or an in person interaction over which you had minimal control sent you spiralling down into an abyss.
Basically the very opposite of what Yunho thrived off.
The more you explained, about your perception of his social life, about his work day and even about his friendships and personality, the clearer it became to your carefully listening friend that you were head over heels, but equally terrified.
Because you fell in love with what was pretty much an alternative universe to you.
An yet, as your friend then explained, she could see that, more than ever before, you were willing to fight yourself and your demons to try your best and be a part of that universe.
For goodness' sake, you were a designer of whole worlds. Out of your brilliant mind came to fruition many best-selling games, with one having a storyline that was being considered for a movie adaptation.
You had a vision like no other, one where the most complex systems were much-admired intricate works of art. With you designing every piece and putting it all together.
You had the skills, and now it was time to apply them 'irl'.
The rest of the day was spent by listening to your friend giving you pep talk after pep talk; little did you know, the same thing was happening to Yunho, except instead of one life coach, he had a total of seven, shouting over one another, almost hopping from place to place on their large living room sofa.
The next day you were proud of yourself to have slept and woken up at a reasonable time, and better yet, you did pretty well in emulating a morning routine.
While you were booting up your computer, a notification popped up on your phone. ATEEZ YouTube channel? You were perplexed. Reading the title, your soul almost left your body. It was a Yunho and Mingi live. Without a second's pause, you tapped on your screen, to unveil the pair, sitting side by side, attempting to set up screen sharing.
You couldn't quite place a finger on it, but to you Yunho appeared more... sad? Maybe your eyes were playing tricks on you, but something felt off.
As you continued watching, you noticed just how gentle Mingi was with him. Making playful jokes, reading compliments from chat out loud and acting every bit like an older brother would, which from your understanding was not usually the case.
Finally, they set everything up, what you saw made your head spin. The puzzle platform coop. The game that you and Yunho had played a couple of times, but most importantly had based matching usernames off.
Before they started, Yunho went into an explanation of the game, its history and why it was special, and you noticed very familiar language. Language you had used when explaining the game to him. And once they launched into the game, of course he chose the character that his username was based off - obb.
You realised. This was his final call. You had to act, and act fast.
So you did the unthinkable and contacted the one other person who you felt you could comfortably speak to out of your newest acquaintances - Yeosang. You had also connected with him on Discord, though barely spoke outside of shared sessions with Yunho.
<e-y/n> hello
The reply came almost instantly
<sk8rboi> hi
You were nervous, but pushed it away as far as you could. This was not a match you could lose.
<e-y/n> this is going to sound really odd, but is there any way i can contact yunho?
<sk8rboi> come over
<e-y/n> ... nani?????
<sk8rboi> this mutual simping is wild
<sk8rboi> come get ur man pls I want peace

What in the world did you agree to just now?
Where was your rationality?
Were you really about to haul a ball of anxiety that was yourself across the city, and into the dorms of 8 grown men and celebrities?
You were wild. But you were wildly in love, so upon masking the majority of your still lingering episode under a bit of refreshing makeup and your confidence-boosting fit, you were off.
And back again because you needed your car keys - you were not about to conquer that barrier yet, the metro could stay as a no-go zone for a while longer.
Call yourself fast and furious, because you swore you used nitro boost to zoom through the streets of Seoul, dodging traffic like you did this on the daily. Adrenaline was your only fuel, and you were very much out of breath once you arrived at the large complex where ATEEZ lived.
Remembering some broken version of breathing exercises you had been taught some time ago, you steadied yourself and gave yourself some time. You cruised around the neighbourhood a couple times until you found an inconspicuous parking spot, because even though probably no one would care, you couldn't help it.
Face obscured by a mask, you shuffled over to the door of the building checking a couple of times to make sure you weren't making a mistake. Before buzzing them, you messaged Yeosang once again, and he promptly let you in.
Once on the right floor, he was already already waiting for you, dressed in a hoodie, knee-length shorts and slides.
"Woah, you actually made it. Big respect. Come on in, Y/N."
It was very easy to be casual with him, as he was practically your long lost brother.
You beamed at him after sliding off your mask, and carefully taking off your shoes at the door to replace them with a pair of slippers he set down on the ground before you. While doing so, you heard him suddenly start counting down...
"And a 3, and a 2, and a-"
"YO YEOSANG WHO IS AT THE DOOR?" that voice sounded very familiar, and soon enough, the one and only Wooyoung appeared around the corner.
And froze. Jaw dropped. Then shrieked.
You were a deer caught in the headlights, again finding yourself punching the daylights out of your false sense of bravery. You wanted to turn right back around when-
"Y/N? IT IS Y/N! THE Y/N! Oh you have no idea how happy I am to meet you in person finally, come through. Statue man, why are you not letting her in?"
"Bro you intercepted like no tomorrow, this was a covert ops mission and you are like a nuke."
"Man, you literally brought THE Y/N over to OUR PLACE and are telling me to chill?"
"Yeah, tone it down. Like a thousand notches. For everybody's mental health."
You gave Yeosang an appreciative nod as he cut Wooyoung's excitement short. To be fair, you were excited too, but at the moment your instincts were telling you to escape at the first possible moment.
Wooyoung rapidly switched though, much to your joy, and in a much softer tone, greeted you again and told you to follow him.
Once in the living room, you were met with one more inquisitive pair of eyes. When he noticed that you were not sure how to address him, be it because you did not know him too well or were just shying away, he, gallant as ever stood up and introduced himself. That was how you met San.
Aside from Mingi and Yunho, apparently the rest of the members had some work to be done so were out of the house and promised to not be back until late. So you took the time to try power through small talk with Wooyoung, Yeosang and San.
With Yeosang definitely mediating because he could somehow read your vibes scarily easily.
Soon enough the Woosan duo decided to push some buttons and turned on the Yungi live, enjoying seeing you falter as you were talking. And you thought you were going to be safe from teasing entirely? Rookie mistake.
Although they knew the details from Yunho's side, they wanted to hear at least a bit from you, but you were a tough nut to crack. They did not know just how much game industry insider information you were used to carrying all the time.
Personal info was nothing. But you kind of, sort of... did want to gush about Yunho. But not now, not when everything was hanging by a thread.
Fast forward to an hour later, and as a way to thank the guys for taking care of you and standing your presence for so long, you ordered them food. Then and there they labelled you as a certified homie.
Just when you and the guys had arranged everything on the kitchen counter, you heard the door unlock, and lo and behold, in came Mingi, followed by an unreadable Yunho.
While driving back, San had discreetly texted Mingi, so he knew what was coming, and gave you a megawatt grin and a thumbs up.
If only you could replay the moment Yunho had raised his eyes and saw you at least once every hour of the day (who were you kidding, your brain was going to take care of that)
It was the kind of glee that you had only encountered in particularly sappy movies or shoujo manga. You almost wondered where the flower petals were.
What happened next swept you off your feet, literally. Not giving a damn that the other members will finish him off or maybe even expose him as a hopeless romantic on some future variety show, he strode over to you and wrapped his strong arms around your frame, lifting you up slightly so you had to balance on your tiptoes. Your face was quickly turning red, but you couldn't and wouldn't pull away.
This action was all you needed to know that your ruminations were self-sabotage, and that you overcoming your fear even if just for today was more than right.
You buried your face in his shirt, careful not to smudge anything but nevertheless relishing in his presence the fact that this was all in real life. He was here. You were here.
Both of you ignored the hollering of the gathered members, some of whom took the chance to sneak the food out on display.
Yunho asked you out then and there, whispering the words into your ear, making a shiver go down your spine. You nodded again and again, and gave him another tight hug.
How desperately he wanted to plant a kiss on your soft lips. The ones that had formed a light cheeky pout as you two finally pulled away when Yeosang shouted "get a room". He wanted to show you in every way that he was yours. And that you could rest assured nothing was going to change that.
After all, you were like ibb and obb. Worked best together.
Tumblr media
Bonus:
Now for him, it was not easy keeping your relationship a secret. Not when he was smiling at his phone, and unabashedly calling you while literally backstage, just to show you how things were around there.
You were not ready to attend any of the big events yet, nor were you fond of the idea of hanging around the equally busy backstage, but you knew everything that was going on thanks to the stream of pictures, videos and calls you received. Down to documentary-style explanations where Yunho scouted for some funny close ups of his members.
Very early on you had discussed social boundaries, and you had explained to him the details of what battles you were yet to find, and fell in love with him all over again when he was the most respectful and understanding person on the planet.
You were slowly building up courage, and were already improving leaps and bounds - your business friend was overjoyed when you independently hosted your own livestream, and organised a q&a session for fans. Magazines and merch stores took a greater interest in your work, and you were happily liaising with them, of course with support of your team, and of your boyfriend, Yunho.
Both you and Yunho learned together what a balancing act life can be, but, with some adjustments and open communication, were making it happen. Step by step, closer and closer.
Staff were quick to ship you two, seeing how Yunho had somehow become even more attractive on stage, sending fans into a frenzy. Really it was so that he could later observe the effect he had on you.
At the same time, he quickly gained a soft spot in some gaming fans' hearts as he ventured into the area a little bit more, for the time being either alone or with another member.
If Yunho thought the e-girl jokes were going to die down, they only got stronger. And when some fans started forming theories about Yunho's patterns, wondering if there was either some collaboration on the horizon or something much deeper, started telling him to come clean to ATINY about his Twitch subscriptions.
Maybe someday, only when you told him you were okay with it, he would shout to the world that Yunho and Y/N were an item, but for now, he was more than in love with you and the two-player world you two built, and you were more than in love with him and his way to bring you to a beautiful reality.

Josuke post grad
I was inspired by @/yossarianirl (not fully tagging for the sake of notifications) posting their josuke head canons i feel like posting about my ideas especially for the nijimura au.
First off, homie definitely has adhd. School was rough for him especially with constant stand drama and trips to the hospital. A lot of people, myself included, always like to imagine josuke in the medical field, but don't really realize the grades you have to have to get into med school are lowkey insane. You gotta be at the top of your class; advanced placement classes no less. Josuke would no doubt really struggle getting those grades. Especially given the Japanese education system being notoriously cut throat.
But josuke feels like its his duty to help people and goes to med school regardless through the speedwagon foundation. They do offer him a lot of accomodations and even hook him up with tutoring and extended time to turn in work. (The spwf is disability friendly because i say so.) And after ungodly hours spent studying all those silly medical terms and such, hes able to pass and INSTANTLY goes into being a paramedic. One of the worst mistakes of his life.
My heart goes out to anyone in this position because of what you have to deal with. Josuke had thought "i can just save them with crazy diamond!" And learned his lesson way too fast. Sometimes the paramedics arrive too late, and crazy diamond can't help with strokes, heart attacks or overdoses. Theres some emergencies... You just cant help with. Mortality is an unfortunate part of being a living being. And life is incredibly fragile. The position lasts at best 1 year before josuke has an incredibly horrible week full of death. The mental toll and survivors guilt is far too much. Even with counselling hes met his limit. The dreams and nightmares are too much to bare so he has to quit. Since he didnt want his suffering through med school to go to waste he decides to become a physical therapist.
With all this said, it's no mystery that josukes a mess of an adult. Tomoko cooked almost all his meals and he has little to no adult skills other than laundry. After moving out post grad he lived off instant meals having no idea how to cook. He completely lost his appetite because of soggy freezer meals and fake food. Doubled with amounting credit card debt from retail therapy and shopping to relieve stress, to the point when hyakuko meets her fkmt fixation keicho cant help but feel kaiji seems all too familiar, he was not in good shape.
After moving in with the nijimuras however after okuyasus ex wife walked out, things got better. Living alone was not for Josuke, and with the added family members, some things get a lot easier to manage from meals, to laundry, and so on. Yeah, a 6 person family (7 including josuke) is a lot. But... Okuyasus cooking and keicho doing a fair share of the cleaning took a huge burden off him. Josuke being able to help with the kids was a HUGE help amidst okuyasu recovering from insomnia and the plethora of issues keicho lives with. Keicho helps him with paying off credit card debt and honestly, josuke wouldnt have it any other way than to be with that family.

Blind Date
(urban wyatt x reader)
bloo's notes: yeah so i watched druski's stream, very painful to watch but yeah. this for my baby urban. hope yall enjoy!! 1:00:00 is about when urban shows up. i might make a part two of this!
druski had dragged you to do this stream with him and the rest of the homies. you really didn't want to be apart of it at all. "y/n, you just gotta go on a blind date. it won't be that bad" druski said, trying to get you fully on board. "i heard the wild shit y'all be asking over there and you know i'm a private person" you retorted. after much convincing, you finally caved. you made your way inside the house and saw how packed it was. apparently you were going first. great you thought to yourself. you got blind folded and hooked up to the polygraph. you were nervous but you mostly just wanted this to be over.
"alright y'all we got two special guests going on a blind date today" druski's voice filled the now quiet room. "introduce yourselves" druski continued. "umm hi i'm y/n" you said shyly. "what's up i'm urban" the mystery man said. 'wow, his voice is so attractive' you thought. "you got a cute name" you said. "ooooh we already got some flirting going on right now" ari teased. you heard urban laugh. 'oh god, that laugh' you thought. "alright, let's start off easy, describe your dream partner" dru asked. "okay, i'll go. i like someone who's got a nice personality, good sense of humor, tall, honest, loyal, nice smile, and just overall a nice person" you said with full honesty. "damn long ass list. okay, urban you're up" druski said. "um i would say i also don't got a type. i like big lips tho. i like some ass too, i can't lie. every type of ethnicity or whatever you know what i'm sayin, i can get down with anything" he said. he sounded a bit nervous and you made a mental note of that.
as some more questions went by, they finally got into the questions you dreaded. "alright, we're coming close on the end but we got time for a few more questions. some spicy questions." dru announced with a deep laugh. ari continued to ask the question, "head or penetration?" "alright, whatever i said i was an open book tonight so. i would say i need both. like head isn't required but i would prefer it" you said, ending your sentence with a giggle. "yeah imma have to agree on that. imma need head and then go in" urban said in agreement. "okay well, what's y'all's body count?" dru questioned. "goddamnit dru, imma kill you after this shit is over" you yelled, the room erupting in loud laughter. "but um, i would say 5" you said shyly. it was true. you didn't have the time to sleep around or have one night stands. "well, my number is higher than that, uhh" he let out a nervouse chuckle before he continued. "my number is higher than that even if you doubled it a few times but i've lost count" he said, mumbling the last part, he was being honest. you admired his honesty but his body count did intimidate you. "okay y'all, the last question before the reveal. do you guys see yourselves going on a date with each other?" ari asked. you chuckled before answering, "um yeah, he seems like a nice person. i don't mind" "i mean, she hit every single thing on my check list so i think imma have to take her out and get to know her. if she's down" urban said. "i can see y'all going on a little something something" ari said. "alright alright, it's reveal time" druski announced.
the minute urban took his blindfolds off he was taken aback at your beauty. he could've sworn you were an angel sent by god himself. you took your blindfold off and made your way to look at the unknown boy. you instantly fell in love with the boy. his beautiful eyes, plump lips, and not to mention the nose ring which drove you crazy. you both blushed. as soon as you were unhooked from everything the two of you stepped aside and started talking as everyone was getting ready for the next people to get tormented.
"i think you're pretty cute and i would love to get to know you more" urban said shyly. "oh, i think you're pretty cute too, let me take your number down" you said. he told you his number and you saved his contact under "tarzan". "really? tarzan?" he questioned, busting out laughing. "well it's not my fault you remind me of tarzan" you said, laughing with him. you shot him a text, making sure it went through. the rest of the night the two of you ended up being stuck to each other. you got to know each other very well and you even got to know a bit about jack as the three of you conversed throughout the night.
as the night was coming to an end, you were just about to order an uber but before you could you heard the voice of tarzan urban, "hey, i can drive you home, don't waste your money on an uber" he offered. "no, no don't worry about it" you said. "nah, i would feel much better if i knew you were getting home safe. pretty ladies like you shouldn't get in uber's this late at night" he argued. "okay, sure but i owe you" you said. "how about, tomorrow at 6? dinner?" he questioned. "i would love to" you said with a huge smile on your face. "wonderful" he replied, never breaking eye contact. you said your good bye's to everyone and so did urban, informing everyone that he was driving you home. on the way to your house, urban thought to himself damn, i could see myself getting used to this.
as urban pulled into your driveway, you thanked him for driving you home and you gave him a small kiss on his cheek. he watched you make you way to your door, unlocking it and giving him a small wave just before you shut the door behind you. he made sure you got inside safely before heading back home. you managed to give him butterflies all night and no one had ever managed to do that to him. that's how he knew, you were the one for him.

oh ur so mean to clive (lighthearted)….. “ur acting like ur mother” oh i think he would freeze on the spot and look so miserable………. probably get a cold sweat and have to sit down 😕 (even tho he couldn’t be more different than her 99.999999999% of the time)
on that note of mother in law anabella GODDDDDD she would be the WORST fucking grandma. like actual evil witch in the woods. always pinching and prodding her granddaughter in particular bc she’s a lady with the rosfield name, she would hate the girl bc it’s clive’s daughter but it’s probably that “i can fix her to be at least better than rock bottom”
like always snide comments “you want more food? you had your plate, girl.” “stand up straight, lest you look like those tavern whores bending over for 3 gil” “look at me when i speak to you” “in my day no noble man would look twice at a rosfield girl like you, you’re lucky you have me”
Anon I love love this but my man, my buddy, my homie, Clive would kick that bitch out the house if he so much as caught a whiff of that bullshit. Nevermind his wife she would rock her shit right then and there, I’m talking a right hook so devastating it sends her to the deepest hells instantly, do not pass go, do not collect 100 dollars.
I do believe Clive would want some kind of communication with her, because let’s be real, even in the games he had a difficult time believing all the shit she did. But when push came to shove? He renounced her. If she tried to teach her some old fashioned nonsense she’s gone.

God Sid’s lore is so incredible to think about.
The whole thing about the NHL in shambles after a lockout, a special lottery for the rights to Sid, him coming into the league expected to not only hold the weight of the bankrupt Penguins but also a struggling league at the the tender age of 18 fresh out of junior hockey, becoming the youngest 100 pt player in the NHL, winning a scoring title his second year in the league, him being named youngest NHL captain ever (at the time), leading to the cup finals in his first year as captain, becoming the youngest captain to hoist the stanley cup, winning the Rocket the following year after scoring the golden goal in the olympics months before.
All of that before he turned 23 years old. WHO IS DOING IT LIKE HIM?!?!??
It’s actually unbelievable how much he accomplished before that disastrous hit (all my homies hate Steckel).
Like he had a careers worth of accomplishments and was still getting better before we were robbed of his prime and he came back from what could have been a career ending injury only to get another scoring title, another Rocket, Olympic Gold, World Cup Gold and MVP, 2 more Stanley Cups, 2x Stanley Cup MVP and some of that while his wrist was messed up.
I’m so grateful to be witnessing him play.
(Yes…. that the Pens video caused me to spiral again :/)
I relate so much to your spiralings, though! Obviously I got into hockey For The Narratives and that's what I love so much about Sid's story... he was absolutely a product of "right place, right time, right person." I really don't think he'd be as big of a story in hockey if not for the lockout and the lottery ushering him into the league, you know? The media jumped on that as a marketing tool and it WORKED.
Before I got myself into hockey I knew almost nothing about the sport—I'm not from a hockey family—but I knew two names: Gretzky and Crosby. I think that really says something about how important Sid's been to the sport, and how his story was instantly picked up and spread by sports media as a hook to get people involved.
And hey, it worked on me!

DC rapper Fat Ju enlists Rarri and Fernando Triff for “Homies 2.0”
DC rapper Fat Ju enlists Rarri and Fernando Triff for “Homies 2.0”
DC rapper and internet blogger Fat Ju has been quietly building buzz behind his latest track “Homie 2.0”, an updated version of his original “Homie” track. Ju’s off-Beat & breathy style of rapping lends itself well to the soft emo Trap style beat chosen for this record. Rarri provides an instantly catchy hook as he croons to the listener about having lost his friends and how he will reconnect…

Lil dicky professional rapper soundcloud
Tumblr media
The best three tracks on the album are the titular Professional Rapper, Save dat Money and Pillow Talking. That’s perhaps the only downside to Professional Rapper. Compared to the first half of the album which had features galore that were spaced out well the second half kind of loses its footing. Track Fourteen to Twenty seems to drag a little with just Dicky providing vocals. The delivery is on-point and quite distinct already. The production of the album is on point, the verses from Dicky are well thought-out. From the start Dicky has been invested in by very successful people – which comes as no surprise when listening through the album.įrom the comedic, well structured songs like Lemme Freak, Who Knew, White Crime and Classic Male Pre-Game to the groundbreaking Pillow Talking (okay, tell me another song like it and tell me it isn’t groundbreaking) that spawned an entire side-project EP Lil Dicky keeps listeners entertained by bringing a funny side to rap that you kind of still take seriously. Not only that, Logic also gets to work with T-Pain on track Personality. Fetty Wap and Rich Homie Quan provide an excellent chorus and verse respectively on the track Save dat Money.
Tumblr media
Brendon Urie, who features on ‘Molly’īrendon Urie proves to be a great feature in the track Molly. The song is instantly a highlight of the entire album but that’s not to say that the positives stop there. It self-consciously acknowledges Lil Dicky being fresh to hip hop, with him being ‘interviewed’ by Snoop Dogg on why he’s worth giving a shot in music. The album kicks off with a feature from Snoop Dogg and the eponymous Professional Rapper. Snoop Dogg, who features on the intro track Lil Dicky hadn’t actually done much prior to Professional Rapper however and in terms of a debut album it massively exceeded expectations. Lil Dicky is blowing up lately so most people will probably know who he is, especially now that Freaky Friday has released and stormed the charts. It was released on July 31st, 2015 by the Commission and ADA record labels. It featured Snoop Dogg, Brendon Urie, Hannibal Buress, Fetty Wap, Rich Homie Quan, Jace, T-Pain as well as a persona/ character called Brain. Sales+streaming figures based on certification alone.Professional Rapper is the debut album by comedian-rapper Lil Dicky. During the line “ Well, I don't care about the money/Like, it's the respect that I'm wanting/Honestly, I just want to be one of the greats/Where they gotta bring your boy up every debate” Snoop Dogg and Lil Dicky are standing in front of pictures of rap legends including Eminem, 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., and Jay-Z.
Tumblr media
The video plays out the lyrics to the song as part of the fictional interview portrayed in the lyrics. Lil Dicky puts together a hook, which is called "garbage" by Snoop Dogg. At the end, Snoop Dogg says he has the job, if he can put together a hook for "this" song, in a self-aware meta sense referring to Professional Rapper. Lil Dicky proceeds to say one of his goals is to become one greatest. He also states he wants to approach rapping different because he feels it's been done the same way for too long, to which Snoop Dogg replies that it traditionally works. Lil Dicky says one of his favorite things is autographing women's breasts.
Tumblr media
In the interview, Snoop Dogg asks Lil Dicky about his background as well as what he likes about rap. The song is presented as Lil Dicky interviewing for a job as a professional rapper with Snoop Dogg. "Professional Rapper" debuted at number-one on the Billboard Comedy Digital Tracks chart dated August 22, 2015.

Rap Master 1 - Machiavellian (New Album Release, 2022)
"Rap Master 1" Releases New Album Entitled "Machiavellian" And Shares his Past-Times.
October 06, 2022
Harlem 6 Support Rapper 1 Breaks Out With New Release to Take Back The West.
Not from Harlem and badder than fk.  Canadian "musical artist" Rap Master 1 is from
Prince George, British Columbia.  A spot where he lead through his youthhood largely in the streets rap-game.
Having suffered gunshot wounds and solitary confinement for so called "shooting himself"...
multiple times I may add...  This character out a dark sketchbook could blow yo fkn mind with raps for 100 hours in a row yo.  They won't feel his hardships like they do in Harlem 6.  He was gutter and he didn't give a f***.  For you untype folks, that means he lived grimey on bread and water at the age of 14 he done did for some time. He was in the streets, he became the street like a city lanmark or some shit.
Always rapping and people would be afraid cause he be doing something he not saying yo...
He be rapping and he wasn't even talking.  Rap Master 1 didn't learn to speak right until 25 years old.
When he rapped in front of his friend they instantly knew...
They instantly knew he wasn't no sh**.  Rap Master 1 was rapping about the year 3 trillion and 44 billion 203 million 504 thousand 442 and at the same time the mthfkr was predicting the words of star-trek sentence by sentence in a freestyle at the hood VLA Quince Street in a duplex all the homies split.
it was more of an 8plex.  Rap Master 1 was known to be from outside of this dimension.  At surface he was clearly a sicky.  That's what they said, they collected 20 bucks every-time they said it I bet.  Because Cole, you see, is the mthfkn illest like straight up yo.  Get into this Album and you will understand a bit more of RM1's bright sides and darks.
He came from a hard background... man, he mechanistically blots out his past with massive head trauma from a concussion because it bothered him.  He released (under alias "Rapper 1") probably the most hardcore "need to hear this" record ever.  It was called OH LP and it recieved 10,000 plays in 10 minutes.  Subsequently he deleted the album moments later.  Featuring tracks realizing all the aspects of the bloody streets and the truth of how it is out there.
This new Album is more dimensional than the Rapper 1 OH LP.  Rap Master 1 has been programming Sound into CPU and the resulting freestyles appear on the Album... Yes there's freestyles on the Album.
He meticulously punched over a million keys and learned how to program sound.
Track 12-13-14 were recorded on cutting edge systems.  (song names: What I Does, Masterplan, War)
Rap Master 1 rapped on the Radio with Harlem 6 and that's where the roots of their kinship begins.
More than once with other members of wu-tang as well.  Harlem 6 lead singer Almighty God Rule (AGR) & Black Jesus had been encouraging RM1 to get his stacks up so the world can go round some.
With this new album Rap Master 1 plans to do just that.  Stack up.  Also, an appearance in New York in the future like a fkn tourist?  He breathes eats and sleeps that rap sh** that street sh**.
His record will be selling like crk.  or something...  Just this record will get you hooked on a few jamz and check it out!

Coolio, ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ Rapper, Dies at 59
From a bookish, asthmatic child to mainstream hitmaker, the West Coast M.C. charted a distinctive path to hip-hop stardom.
By Eduardo Medina and McKenna Oxenden Published Sept. 28, 2022 Updated Sept. 29, 2022
Coolio, the rapper whose playful and sometimes gritty takes on West Coast rap and anthemic hits like “Gangsta’s Paradise” made him a hip-hop star in the 1990s, died on Wednesday in Los Angeles. He was 59.
His longtime manager, Jarez Posey, said he was told that Coolio died at a friend’s house. No cause was given.
Coolio, whose legal name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr., achieved mainstream superstardom and critical success with “Gangsta’s Paradise” in 1995. A grim, minor-key track that featured the singer L.V. and drew on Stevie Wonder’s 1976 song “Pastime Paradise,” it spent three weeks atop Billboard’s Hot 100 and was named the chart’s No. 1 song of the year.
It also won the Grammy for best rap solo performance in 1996 and was later certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, outshining the movie it was featured in, the high school drama “Dangerous Minds.”
“Coolio still builds his raps on recognizable 1970s oldies, and he delivers intricate, syncopated rhymes as if they were conversation,” Jon Pareles wrote in an album review in The New York Times, noting that “Gangsta’s Paradise” uses “the somber minor chords” of Mr. Wonder’s “Pastime Paradise.” Coolio told Rolling Stone that he had cleared the usage through a family connection — his wife knew one of Mr. Wonder’s brothers — with the stipulation that the song couldn’t contain any profanity. Mr. Wonder received a writing credit.
Another 1995 movie, the comedy “Clueless,” gave Coolio another crossover moment. His song “Rollin’ With My Homies” was on the soundtrack, and its hook, beloved by the character Tai — the desperate-to-be-hip new girl played by Brittany Murphy — is a running joke in the film.
Coolio’s other hits included “Fantastic Voyage” — the opening song on his debut album, “It Takes a Thief,” released in 1994 — and “1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin’ New)” from the “Gangsta’s Paradise” album, released the next year. Both albums were nominated for Grammys. “C U When U Get There,” which is based on Pachelbel’s Canon, a Baroque-era standard, was a standout track on Coolio’s third album, “My Soul,” from 1997.
But nothing could match the success of “Gangsta’s Paradise” — a song that, with its piercing production and ominous background vocals, became instantly distinguishable for millions of 1990s rap fans, especially with a memorable opening verse based on Psalm 23:
“As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I take a look at my life and realize there’s nothin’ left.”
While Coolio lamented that his hit had overshadowed his other work, he told PopkillerTV in 2018 that the song had taken him on “a great ride.” Its popularity has endured for decades; the music video has garnered a rare billion-plus views on YouTube.
Artis Leon Ivey Jr. was born on Aug. 1, 1963. He grew up in Compton, Calif., in Los Angeles County, a place known for producing some of hip-hop’s most successful artists, including Dr. Dre and Kendrick Lamar.
He told The Independent in 1997 that as a child he would play board games with his single mother, to whom he later dedicated his success. After a turbulent youth — a bookish, asthmatic child, he became a teenage gang member, juvenile offender and drug addict — Coolio worked as a volunteer firefighter.
In his 20s, he moved to San Jose to live with his father and fight fires with the California Department of Forestry. He became more spiritual there and later credited Christianity for helping him overcome his addiction to crack.
As he embarked on a music career, Coolio joined a growing wave of West Coast hip-hop that was increasingly becoming mainstream; it had surged in national popularity as MTV, radio stations and major labels came to embrace this once-regional underground sound. After performing with the group WC and the Maad Circle alongside WC, Sir Jinx and DJ Crazy Toones, he went solo.
Coolio signed to Tommy Boy Records, the independent rap label known for releases by De La Soul, Naughty by Nature and Queen Latifah, which had partnered with Warner Bros. Records a decade earlier to expand its commercial reach.
Building off the gangster rap and G-funk sounds and images of N.W.A, Ice-T, Dr. Dre and Snoop Doggy Dogg, Coolio gained a following by combining his credibility with a willingness to appeal to a broad audience by means of softened language, dance tracks, recognizable samples and other nods to past hits.
A Spin review of the “Gangsta’s Paradise” album in 1996 called it “great pop music” and “the most stylistically broad mainstream rap album you’ll probably hear all year.”
“Coolio presents himself as an entertainer,” the magazine added, “one who projects an unhinged personality while creating solidly commercial sounds.”
“Gangsta’s Paradise” had board cultural impact, even spawning a Weird Al Yankovic parody, “Amish Paradise,” which replaced the streets with farm country, offering lyrics about churning butter and selling quilts.
The scale of the original song’s success awed its creator. Coolio told Rolling Stone that he was on tour in Europe when he realized that “I was No. 1 all over the entire planet — not just in the States. I was No. 1 everywhere that you can imagine.”
On Wednesday, the rapper Ice Cube recalled Coolio’s hard-earned rise, writing on Twitter that he had witnessed “first hand this man’s grind to the top of the industry.”
Coolio, known for his spindly and sprouting cornrows, went on to sell 4.8 million albums in the United States, according to Luminate, the tracking service formerly known as Nielsen Music.
The year after his big hit topped the charts, he wrote and performed the theme song for “Kenan & Kel,” a Nickelodeon staple in the late 1990s starring the future “Saturday Night Live” comedian Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. Coolio later became a recurring presence on reality TV, appearing in shows like “Coolio’s Rules,” a 2008 series that focused on his personal life and his quest to find love in Los Angeles.
He had four children with Josefa Salinas, whom he married in 1996 and later divorced. A complete list of survivors was not immediately available.
In 2009, Coolio pleaded guilty to drug possession and went to a rehabilitation program. In 2016, he pleaded guilty to a felony firearms charge after a loaded gun was found in his carry-on bag at an airport.
Coolio, who struggled with asthma all his life, served as the spokesman for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, according to his official online biography. At a 2016 performance in Brooklyn, he had an asthma attack and was saved by a fan who had an inhaler, Page Six reported.
Coolio had in recent years become aware of his place in hip-hop history. He said in 2018 that after long lamenting his struggles in the music industry, he came to understand that “people would kill to take my place.”
“I’m sure after I’m long gone from this planet, and from this dimension,” he said, “people will come back and study my body of work.”

okay so I've been gone for a minute because I was writing my first fic on ao3 but I'm back with more trash than ever! I really love crack fics and my friend and I thought up this absolutely GREASY premise and I just couldn't help myself. I only included a few of my ideas in this post but let me know if yall like it and maybe I'll do a part 2
Haikyuu!! Frat House AU
Bokubro is obviously a member of the frat, he's also a minor drug dealer with Kuroo, and his room is L I T E R A L L Y DISGUSTANG, like Kuroo actually has a fear of Bokuto's side of their room. People are baffled, BAFFLED when they find out that his boyfriend is non other than Akaashi, president of the most prestigious fraternity on campus. But what can akaashi say? he believes any guy who can drink his weight in vodka, take at least three different unnameable drugs, and still smile at him the morning after, deserves his attention.
Kuroo took one for the team when he rushed, and roomed with Bokuto. Needless to say, his quiet gamer boyfriend, Kenma, refuses to stay over. When they first met at one of the frat's infamous ragers, they'd stumbled into Kuroo's shared room, heading toward a drunk hook up. Then Kenma put his hand in something wet. And very much alive. That was the first and last time. Bokuto and him irritate everyone by constantly referring to themselves as "businessmen", only to be immediately informed by Iwaizumi and Daichi that "selling drugs to high schoolers doesn't make you business men"
Daichi didn't want to be in charge, but duty calls and when you and Iwaizumi are the only sane ones in the house, well a man has to step up. Plus, it totally gains him brownie points with all of the trashy college girls that show up to their notorious parties. because he was totally interested in that, and definetly not in the chaotic silver haired boy from the competing fraternity. no he wanted nothing to do with Sugawara. It's not like he catches himself openly fantasizing about him, and the whole house made it into a running joke.
Iwaizumi is also in charge, to no one's surprise. he and daichi have the cleanest room in the house, not only that but he's the only one who will do dishes. he's exhausted. he's also sleeping with Oikawa Tooru the single most irritating member of the prestigious fraternity suga and akaashi are in. but don't mention it, don't talk about the way he blushes when oikawa throws it back, and DEFINETLY don't bring up the time Oikawa broke his knee sneaking out of Iwaizumi's room, and spent an entire semester harassing iwaizumi on a bright pink motorized scooter.
Ushijima doesn't really care enough to be in charge. Mans is a FARMER if you catch my drift, and he makes fat stacks off of his "business" with Kuroo and Bokuto. once spent the entirety of his rush week in a maid's costume. but hey he's not complaining, it did get him the attention of that really weird dude from his leisure cooking class. he and Tendou are possibly the only couple that have it all figured out so kudos to them, three years strong
the miya twins are living frat legends, and they have been since their first party, at which Osamu got wasted and punched an equally wasted atsumu in the face for "breathing too loud". Atsumu seems like he sleeps around a lot, and maybe he did, but the guy won't stop simping for a very reserved chem major named Sakusa. sakusa gave into atsumu's begging once and woke up on a stained mattress in Vegas for his trouble.
Terushima is also there, making each party a little bit more chaotic and sleeping his way through ever girl on campus, except for kiyoko and yachi, the other guys were oddly protective of them. make no mistake though, terushima was a loveable himbo, who made extra sure that safe, sane , and consensual relations were his top priority. during hell week, he had to poop in a target dumpster, but daichi and iwaizumi didn't keep a good look out for him, he narrowly avoided getting arrested. NARROWLY.
Nishinoya and Tanaka rushed together. it went exactly how you think it did. Daichi and iwaizumi swore up and down that if they weren't desperate for new pledges, they would've never let those two in after they set the toilet on fire. Tanaka got really smacked one night and took a vow to abstain from any hook ups until he and Kiyoko (the hot girl from that one sorority) were engaged. Noya holds him to it and it's actually really wholesome. Noya on the other hand is battling a low grade obsession with the anxious design major from Akaashi's fraternity. everytime Asahi gets inebriated he's instantly the life of the party, and if Noya wasn't already in love, that time drunk Asahi took his clothes off and swam in the city fountain with him really cemented it.
kyoutani hates that little snot from the other fraternity....what was his name? mini oikawa, super prissy and whiny....YaHAbA. Kyoutani won Iwazumi's admiration when he took his rush like a champ, obliterating keg stands and hair removal alike. everyone thinks it's really funny because they're basically the same person down to the snotty, prissy, irritating boyfriends they won't admit they have.
Ennoshita is the mini daichi, and he's a simp for Tanaka. constantly pulling him back from fights, and rubbing his back when he throws up. maybe someday Tanaka might notice....
Lev is possibly the dumbest rush they have ever received and also the most fun. his natural talent for shotgunning and dangerous drunken adventures, makes him a favorite. he ripped his pants in front of the entire student body during his rush, on purpose. like he wanted it to happen. still to this day, no one understands why. he's been simping for yaku as long as he's been in college, so two whole months. to the outside world, it looks like the angry little man wouldn't think twice about the lowly freshman, but lev's been in enough closets with him to know that that's just not true.
kindaichi just adds to the madness, he's an anxious peacemaker with an epic talent as a lightweight, and a massive crush on his apathetic roommate, kunimi. Kunimi regretted joining the frat the first time he watched Bokuto peel string cheese with his toes.
Hinata and Kageyama are rushing at the same time. Tobio Swageyama is made for Greek life, but Hinata can barely do a keg stand. So naturally they are paired together through the rush callenges. This results in the loss of no less than six pairs of pants, a completely bald (no eyebrows) Kageyama, and an upside down lower back tattoo reading "boke", sometimes they get a little too spicy at parties and take the whole "kiss the homies goodnight" thing to a whole other level

Bre’s Boys Preference: Apocalypse Edition
Billy Russo: Billy makes sure he is rich in whatever currency is being used: oil, water, food, weapons--whatever is lacking in the world, Billy makes sure he has in excess. He sets himself up as a necessity for everyone else, making him a key player in any end of the world scenario. Billy has no mercy or sympathy for others...but he has a soft spot for you. You’re not particularly useful or essential, but he likes having you around. He likes being the one to provide for you and protect you, and if anyone threatens you, Billy makes sure to wipe them out--no hesitation.
Logan Delos: Logan’s wealth put a target on his back as soon as the apocalypse really got going. He ended up joining a rebel group who had first taken him for ransoming purposes, but they liked his charm and wit. So Logan became their mouth piece and the face of their campaign, helping them grow in power and becoming a central part of their operation. He gets to be a modern day cowboy, and when he meets you, another rebel, he falls for you hard. And just like that, he has something real, something concrete to care about at the end of the world.
Jax Teller: The Sons were uniquely prepared for the apocalypse, so they pretty much just keep doing what they’ve been doing--it’s easier, actually, since there are no laws to skirt around anymore. Jax ends up being the King of Charming, turning it into a bustling town where they traded with travelers. The Sons ran it, and if anyone broke their rules or disrespected them in anyway, Jax would kill them where they stood. When you come to town, you and Jax hook up immediately, and he’s hooked. You become his rock, and whenever he starts to question himself or feel like he’s turning into Clay or his dad, you’re there to ground him.
Coco Cruz: Coco was a wanderer for a while. He hit the road, armed with his guns, knives, and bike, until he crossed paths with the Mayans again. Once he joined back up with his crew, he ended up finding Letty. He went on a kind of killing spree because of some of the things she told him, but once that was done, his priorities were pretty much surviving and making sure his homies/daughter survived... But then you stumbled into town, covered in dirt and paranoid as hell... and Coco felt something shift in his chest. He found himself up with you, looking at the sky as the two of you kept watch. It was a slow courtship for both of you, but once you were officially together, you became one of the few people Coco cared about.
Angel Reyes: Angel and EZ did runs for Miguel, and it was on one of those runs that they found you. They brought you back to town, and they made sure you were safe. Angel felt protective of you from the get-go, making sure no one messed with you and taking time to teach you how to use a gun and defend yourself. Eventually you end up in bed together, and once that happens, Angel is sprung. He doesn’t like when you’re not with him, and you actually start going with him and EZ on their runs, holding onto him as you ride on the back of his motorcycle.
Miguel Galindo: Miguel was prepared for the apocalypse because he’s rich and was warned beforehand. He had everything he needed, supplies and weapons and everything else, Miguel is set to be the freaking King. He’s sitting pretty, well protected, well supplied, and well armed, when you come into his life. He hires you, paying you in supplies and shelter, but the more he gets to know you, the more he wants you at his side. So he makes you his personal guard alongside with Nestor, and you guard him at night...which ends up with you in his bed, and Miguel fires you that same night. “You’re more than just security,” he says, kissing you, his mouth warm and soft, “you’re mine now, amor.”
Nick Amaro: Nick tries to keep order once the world ends, but everything is so chaotic and wild, he ends up having to get his hands dirty to protect people...which is how he meet you. You were being robbed of the few items you had, and Nick saved you. He invited you to travel with his group: Olivia, Fin, Munch, Rollins, Carisi, and Nick’s young daughter, and you accept. You and Nick become fast friends, and then lovers, and then you become one of the most important people in his life, and if you’re ever in any danger, Nick is quick to get his hands dirty again.
Johnny Tuturro: I’mma keep it simple: Johnny is a War Boy. He was born and raised in the apocalypse, told that the greatest glory is to die epic in battle, and he believes that wholeheartedly. So when he crosses paths with you, Johnny is shocked at how quickly and easily you change his whole world with your pretty eyes and soft laugh. Suddenly he’s putting down his guns so he can hold you close, and the only time he wants to do violence is when he’s protecting you. Johnny learns, from your love, that he’s more than just a weapon, and the two of you take off on your own journey. He teaches you how to defend yourself, and you teach him how to plant trees and fish. He never leaves your side, and at night, he cuddles up with you and kisses your forehead until you fall asleep.
Rio: Rio is a freaking Kingpin. He’s somewhere between Billy and Miguel--he has his own empire, but he gets his hands dirty with no qualms about it at all. He has a literal throne, which is what he’s sitting on when he first meets you. Mick had caught you trying to run off with a sack full of supplies, and Rio was instantly impressed. You didn’t cower or apologize, you just glared up at him and told him all the problems with his security system... So he decided to let you pay off your debt by working with him. And that ended up with his head between your thighs late one night... so it was a win-win for him. Rio made you his Queen, gave you a throne right next to his, and whenever decisions needed to be made, he’d turn to you, his dark eyes shining with love and respect. “What do you think, mama?”

Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia: An Excellent Show Undermined by its Race Problems
https://ift.tt/3sSSitt
Marketed as an updated and darker version of Gilmore Girls, the idea of this new mother-daughter duo show, Ginny & Georgia, is instantly appealing. Netflix’s new top 10 show is about 15-year-old Ginny Miller, played by Antonia Gentry, who often feels more mature than her 30-year-old mother, Georgia (Brianne Howey). When the family moves from Texas to a new town called Wellsbury in Massachusetts, Ginny isn’t too keen until she meets her super cute neighbor, Marcus, and his twin sister Maxine. But life is not so simple, and as secrets come to light, things get more complicated.
After finishing the show in 24 hours, I wish I could sit here and write about how compelling it is and how well it portrays that point in teenage life where you’re impulsive, awkward, and nervous as you try to figure out relationships and find yourself. However, while the town of Wellsbury is picture-perfect, Ginny & Georgia is not as it is undermined by a significant race problem, primarily how it deals with its biracial lead.
The show’s failure to deal with its lead character Ginny’s biracial identity makes it hard for me to love all the other great aspects of the show, as much as I want to. Ginny & Georgia’s exploration of coming of age, self-harm, LGBTQ+ relationships, sexual abuse, and being an American Sign Language family is compelling and something I wish was more present on television. Even criminal mastermind Georgia Miller, whose life is full of secrets, murder, and lord knows whatever else, is undermined by the shows tendency to only acknowledge Ginny’s Blackness when dealing with racism. Her race isn’t considered in any other regard, which suggests being Black is nothing more than microaggressions and discrimination, and that racism makes up the entirety of the Black identity.
“If you had an ass, you’d be perfect”
Ginny’s experience of racism, mostly in the form of microaggressions, is plain for the eye to see, particularly in the comments made by Ginny’s new friends. When her friend Samantha (Romi Shraiter) asks her, “What are you?” and then plays it off as a compliment because Ginny is so “exotic looking,” Ginny’s response is silence. An equal response is given when the same friend fetishizes mixed-race babies by saying, “I’m going to marry a Black man so I can have adorable little mixed babies.” Beyond the fact that this comment is weird, and that the show is in many ways portraying a main character who is struggling with their biracial identity, the show normalizes racist comments by not having Ginny call out her friend.

Celebrating Black Voices in Anime with Funimation
By Daniel Kurland
It’s the same situation when Ginny straightens her hair, and Brodie, one of those characters who thinks they’re the funniest person alive but actually just fulfils that stereotypical teen drama douchebag role says, “If you had an ass, you’d be perfect. It’s weird that you don’t.” The use of comments like these in the show aid stereotypes and fetishizations of Black women as objects of desire and the idea that Black women, like me, who don’t have large bums are somehow less Black.
The show attempts to deal with this issue by having Ginny discuss it with her boyfriend Hunter (Mason Temple). Though it is a lovely scene because they start to discuss their experiences of being biracial, it does not address the fact Brodie has just used a racist insult, which is a common occurrence among Ginny’s friends.
Both of these sequences undermine Ginny’s character, who, when we first meet her, is outspoken and strong as she calls out her English teacher for constructing a syllabus containing mostly white men. The show weakens its lead character when it portrays Ginny as someone who can’t have hard conversations with her friends.
“Too unconventional”
A particularly striking aspect of the show is Ginny’s interactions with her AP English teacher, Mr. Gitten (Jonathan Potts). Her interactions with him are reflective of a situation most Black people have either experienced or heard about during their education, and yet the way the show handles it is somewhat messy. In Gitten’s first encounter with Ginny, he assumes she is not as well-read as the rest of her (predominantly white) classmates. This is continued when he states Ginny lost the writing competition because her essay was “too unconventional” when he really means it was too Black for him. Never directly discussing the issue Mr. Gitten has with her until the last episode, the moment is the closest Ginny comes throughout the whole show to dealing with the racism she receives, and yet it is one of the most unrealistic portrayals I have witnessed on television.
Instead of trying to get the teacher punished, Ginny’s approach to dealing with the racism she receives is to blackmail him, saying she’d out him as a racist if he doesn’t give her a glowing college recommendation letter. I can only speak on my experiences as a Black woman who’s faced similar situations, but Ginny’s approach is naïve and an impractical reflection of what racism in school is like for minority ethnicities. The solution to racism is not blackmail. By Ginny choosing to blackmail him instead of telling the school so he can get fired or just have another teacher to write the recommendation letter, it makes her less honorable.
Also, many of the comments Gitten makes are in front of the class and something he’s been doing for years as Bracia tells Ginny she’s had similar experiences with him. So surely he really wouldn’t have felt that threatened? All in all, Ginny’s approach to dealing with Mr. Gitten’s treatment is shocking and unhelpful as it suggests this is a useful way racism is dealt with.
“Your bars could use a little work, homie”
The show’s failure to fittingly deal with its biracial lead’s struggles weakens the rest of the show, as it opens the door to messy scenes such as the heavily criticized “Oppression Olympics” scene where Ginny and Hunter throw stereotypes at each other, while Hunter fails to see how Gittens’ treatment of Ginny is racist. While the scene can be criticized for many things, it does well to highlight how all people of color can experience racism, but their experiences are not the same. While Hunter’s experiences are 100% valid, they are not comparable to what Ginny is going through in relation to their English teacher. Hunter’s accusations that Ginny is “causing drama in class” is him painting her in the stereotypical angry Black woman image because she’s calling out discrimination and using her voice.

Firefly Lane and the Problem with Aging up and Down
By Rosie Fletcher
The dialogue the argument uses is embarrassing, to say the least, with Ginny saying to Hunter, “Your favourite food is cheeseburgers, and I know more Mandarin than you do, you’re barely even Asian,” while Hunter says, “But I’ve never seen you pound back jerk chicken. The last time I checked, Brodie twerks better than you. And I liked your poem, but your bars could use a little more work, homie. So really, how black are you then?” The entire argument, which consists of stereotypes to prove who’s whiter, is extremely chaotic as it perpetuates this idea that you’re somehow less Black if you don’t know how to twerk or “pound back jerk chicken” whatever that means. And beyond the awful dialogue, the worst bit about it is the situation, which happens in episode 8, is never resolved. It is as if the writers of the show were saying racial identity is something two biracial characters “should” be struggling with, and instead of showing how they do, we’ll just throw this scene in and have them throw derogatory stereotypes at each other. The writing in the scene undermines what could have been a powerful moment which explored both Ginny’s struggle with her identity and the racism she’s experienced since she arrived in Wellsbury. Instead, we’re left with a frustrating scene that only reinforces the show’s inability to deal with a biracial lead character.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
While Ginny & Georgia is a delightfully chaotic show that for the majority of it will have you hooked and on the edge of your seat, its inability to deal with the lead character’s identity seriously undermines it. By not dealing with the microaggressions and discrimination Ginny receives, the show normalizes racism. If there is a season two, I hope the show gets a better handle on Ginny’s identity and what it means to be biracial.
Ginny & Georgia is available to stream on Netflix now.
