Pronouns, my beloved!
Disclaimer: not a native Thai speaker, still learning 🙏
Tumblr media
นี่คุณจะไม่เลือกผมจริง ๆ ใช่ไหม /nee, khun ja mai leuuak pom jing jing chai mai?/
-> คุณ /khun/ = polite, formal 2nd pers. pronoun -> ผม /pom/ = polite, formal, respectful male 1st pers. pronoun
As Mahasamut is the younger one, he might just keep using ผม /pom/ throughout the entire show, just as Sky did in LITA. What he calls Tongrak is surely gonna change though! คุณ /khun/ feels too distant for P'May characters - even LomNuea in Wedding Plan, who met in a professional context and long kept using คุณ /khun/, ended up switching to the more familiar and informal พี่ /phi/ to refer to Lom.
So my predictions include:
a variation on his name, e.g. Rak, instead of any pronoun (like Prapai calling Sky just Sky, no pronouns), or later down the line maybe just ที่รัก /thee rak/ (= lit. beloved, comparable to darling, honey etc.) as it's sweet and would be a lovely switcheroo from Tongrak ต้องรัก /dtawng rak/ (= have to love)
a more intimate pronoun like เธอ /ter/ (based on YiwaMarine from Wedding Plan foregoing seniority by having younger Rine call her older girlfriend เธอ /ter/ for most of the show)
or simply พี่ /phi/ (as a 2nd pers. pronoun) which- I was just considering how that might not be sweet enough for a P'May top but then the sheer potential of P'Rak พี่รัก /phi rak/ sounding so close to ที่รัก /thee rak/ occurred to me and now I'm gonna need that to happen!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ต่อให้ผู้ชายทั้งโลกเหลือแค่นายคนเดียวอะ ฉัน ก็ ไม่ เอา /dtaaw hai phuu chaai thang lohk leuua khaae naai khohn diiao a- chan. gaaw. mai. ao./)
-> นาย /naai/ = informal male 2nd pers. pronoun (it's kind of filed away as the male equivalent to เธอ /ter/ in my head, even though เธอ /ter/ is perfectly usable regardless of gender but might sound too flirty to Tongrak, maybe?) -> ฉัน /chan/ = informal, familiar 1st pers. pronoun, not respectful or polite but also not impolite; used when speaking to someone younger/of lower status or between equals, is used predominantly by women, and in turn by men when talking to women
I love this choice so much! 1) Because both ฉัน /chan/ and นาย /naai/ rarely make an appearance in BL, from male characters, even though they delight me every time I do hear it in a BL (e.g. NuerSyn in Cutie Pie calling each other นาย /naai/ for a good long while), and 2) because ฉัน /chan/ can give both Mafia Boss (as can นาย /naai/) as well as Sassy and no, I shan't elaborate 5555
My prediction is that these too might change. ฉัน /chan/ here feels like- attitude? almost? Like both a level of self-confidence as well as some sass so I'd wager that mellows out into:
พี่ /phi/ (as a 1st pers. pronoun)
or he might just as well keep using ฉัน /chan/ (if paired with เธอ /ter/ for example that's like prime romance trope right there lol)
or, which I think is most likely, he'll just use his own name or variation thereof, e.g. Rak.
I remember seeing Peat tweet something aaaages ago when the announcement for Love Sea first dropped where he called Fort 'Mut' -
Tumblr media
/diiao juuhr gan loei, ai moot/ = See you then, Ai'Mut!
Except this is spelled differently from Mahasamut's name because หมุด /moot/ (= pin/needle) is the phonemic spelling of the last syllable in มหาสมุทร /ma haa sa moot/. So! I think it's entirely possible that Tongrak's gonna call him Mut หมุด or Nong Mut น้องหมุด in the future.
Tumblr media
คุณต้องรักมหาสมุทร /khun dtawng rak mahaa samoot/
= Khun Tongrak Mahasamut = You have to love the ocean. = You have to love me.
The Thai title is ต้องรักมหาสมุทร /dtawng rak mahaa samoot/ = TongrakMahasamut; Gotta Love the Sea; Gotta Love Mahasamut

Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) Masterpost
Tumblr media
Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) is a Vocal synth (Vocaloid and SynthV) music project. It consists of songs themed around different figures throughout Chinese history. The project is a collaboration between different artists and creatives, with music and videos featuring prominent traditional Chinese elements. The project's title translates to "The Records of Magnificence of the Wangchuan" - In Chinese mythology, "Wangchuan" (or River of Forgetting) is a river in the Underworld that can rid one of their past life's memories, similar to the river Lethe.
A mobile game adaptation has also been developed by NetEast. Unfortunately, I haven't played it so I can't give much insight on it. However, I assume that its premise is similar to that of the idea behind the project as a whole: all these historical figures meeting each other in the Underworld after they died. Maybe.
You can find all the songs on Bilibili. The official Weibo can be found here. The game's website, which includes all characters appearing so far in the game, can be found here, and its Weibo can be found here.
(If you prefer YouTube, I've also put together a handy playlist. Please know that most of these videos are reposts though, so please watch the original Bilibili MVs if you can!)
This blog is where I will be posting everything I feel like I need to say about the songs in this project. A lot of it is lifted from my Twitter account but will be in much more detail. Note that I probably won't touch collab songs, or songs that don't focus solely on the project's own characters.
Disclaimer: I do not speak Chinese, nor am I an expert on Chinese history. Therefore, I cannot reliably translate the lyrics to these songs, nor my words should be taken as gospel. I am merely a nerd gushing about my hyperfixation.

Did Gan Ning and Huang Zhong ever meet and work together under Liu Biao? Did they have any major accomplishments under him before they joined Wu & Shu?
It doesn't seem like they would have met. During Gan Ning's time in Jing he was stationed somewhat north of where Huang Zhong was (Jiangxia vs Changsha) and there's no reason to think one traveled to the other's location.

Annals of Emperor Wen of Zhou, 538 (ZS02)
[Heqiao proves a bridge too far.]
[Datong 4, 15 February 538 – 3 February 539]
4th Year, Spring, 3rd Month [15 April – 13 May], Taizu led the various generals to enter court. After the rites concluded, he went back to Hua province.
7th Month [11 August – 9 September], Eastern Wei dispatched their generals Hou Jing, Shedi Gan, Gao Aocao, Han Gui, Kezhuhun Yuan, Moduolou Daiwen and others to besiege Dugu Xin at Luoyang. Shenwu of Qi cut off his rear. Before this, the Wei Emperor wanted to favour Lyoyang to do obeisance at the parks and mounds. When it happened that Xin was besieged, he decreed Taizu to lead the army and rescue Xin. The Wei Emperor likewise went east.
8th Month, gengyin [12 September], Taizu arrived at Gucheng. Moduolou Daiwen and Kezhuhun Yuan came to confront him. He approached the battle line and beheaded Daiwen. Yuan managed to escape on a single horse. He thoroughly took captive their multitudes and sent them off to Hongnong. Thereupon he advanced the army to east of the Chan [river]. That evening the Wei Emperor favoured Taizu's camp, and so Jing and others at night abandoned the siege and left.
Reaching dawn, Taizu led light cavalry to pursue them, and arrived at the banks of the He. Jing and others to the north occupied Heqiao [“He Bridge” and to the south they linked up with Mang Mountain as their battle line, and joined battle with the various armies. Taizu's horse was hit by a flying arrow. It was startled and broke loose, and thereupon he lost it [the horse that is]. Following that, within the army was disturbance and chaos. Chief Controller Li Mu went down from his horse to offer it to Taizu, and the army was again roused. Hence there was a great victory. They beheaded Gao Aocao and his Ceremony Similar Li Meng, Inspector of Xiyan province, Song Xian, and others and took captive 15 000 of his armoured soldiers. Those who went into the He and died was in the ten thousands.
That day the deployed battle lines had been long, with head and tail far apart, and had joined in battle tens of times. Mist and fog blocked on four sides and they were not able to recognize each other. Dugu Xin and Li Yuan were on the right and Zhao Gui and Yi Feng were on the left. In the battles they had all been unsuccessful, also they knew not yet where the Wei Emperor and Taizu were located. They all abandoned their soldiers ahead and turned back home. Opening Office Li Hu, Nian Xian, and others were the rear army. When they came across Xin and the others' retreat, they promptly altogether went back with them. Because of this, he turn around the host. Luoyang likewise lost its defenders.
The Great Army arrived at Hongnong. The defending generals had all abandoned their cities and fled west. Those captive and surrendered soldiers who were in Hongnong had following that been closing the gates against them to resist and defend. They advanced to attack and root them out, and executed their main leaders, several hundred people.
During the Great Army's eastern offensive, the troops who had been kept behind to defend Guanzhong were few, and from front to rear there were captive Eastern Wei soldiers, all had been scattered among the people, who therefore plotted to make chaos. When Li Hu and others arrived at Chang'an, nothing of their plan had been carried out. He therefore, together with the excellencies and dignitaries, assisted Wei's Heir-Apparent to set out and stay north of the Wei. Guanzhong greatly shook in fear and the hundred families were plundering and pillaging each other.
Hence an army man imprisoned at Shayuan, Zhao Qingque, a commoner from Yong province, Yu Fude, and others consequently rebelled. Qingque occupied Chang'an's lesser city and Fude guarded Xianyang. They, together with Grand Warden Murong Siqing, each gathered surrendered soldiers with which to resist the returning host. In Chang'an's greater city the people all led each other to resist Qingque. Each day there were continuous battles.
The Wei Emperor halted and stayed behind at Wenxiang, and dispatched Taizu to chastise them. The old fathers in Chang'an saw that Taizu arrived, and with both grief and joy said:
Did not think that today [we] would again get to see His Excellency!
Gentlemen and women, everyone congratulated each other.
The Inspector of Hua province, Dao, led an army to assail Xianyang, behead Siqing and seize Fude. He went south across the Wei to meet up with Taizu to attack Qingque, they routed him. The Grand Tutor, Liang Jingrui, had previously stayed behind at Chang'an due to illness, and then he had communicated and planned with Qingque. Reaching this point he also submitted to execution. Guanzhong hence was then settled. The Wei Emperor returned to Chang'an and Taizu again stationed in Hua province.
Winter, 11th Month [7 December – 5 January], Eastern Wei's general Hou Jing attacked and captured Guang province.
12th Month [6 January – 3 February], Shiyun Bao assailed Luoyang. Eastern Wei's general Wang Yuangui abandoned the city and fled. Chief Controller Zhao Gang assailed Guang province and took it. From Xiang and Guang and westward the cities and garrisons again belonged inside.

ATLA rewatch thoughts, Book 1 (eps 7-11)
7) Winter Solstice Part 1: The Spirit World - The introduction to spirit world of ATLA is just WOW!!! Hei Bai’s design is so kickass, and I loved everything about the spirits and the spirit world. SPIRIT WORLD MY BELOVED
8)  Winter Solstice Part 2: Avatar Roku - So far I’ve been just going along for the ride while rewatching Book 1, and I started to get invested (again) with ep 7, but this ep is where I am ALL IN. And Aang as Avatar Roku???? OMGFKDJHSDKSJHDFKSHD!!!!
9) The Waterbending Scroll - I always feel uncomfortable whenever I watch this episode, because Katara is petty and jealous and insecure for most of it. But it’s also totally realistic! Aang picks up waterbending so quickly, and he does it better than Katara, who has been struggling to teach herself for years because the war (ie FN) has stolen all the waterbenders from her tribe (so she steals the waterbending scroll from people who “shouldn’t” have it). The reason for her inability to master waterbending is tragic and makes me sympathetic toward her despite her attitude. But she probably doesn’t even consciously think about the reason, and the way she acts (unpleasant as it is) is very much like a teenage girl who feels deeply insecure and inadequate when someone else shows her up at “her thing.”
10) Jet - Ah yes, the much-maligned episode of Book 1. But I actually LOVE this episode, and it’s one of my favorites in Book 1! I think people (esp Kataang fans) don’t like this episode because of Katara’s brief relationship with Jet. I’ve also heard complaints that Katara is OOC, and some people understandably can’t stand Jet. But everything about this episode is so fascinating to me, from Jet’s obsession with revenge against the FN, to the conflict between Sokka and Jet, to Katara’s eyes being opened at the end, and everything in between. There’s a lot to dig into in this episode that’s only 20 minutes long. Ultimately, Sokka is the star of this episode, and it really puts his ingenuity on display.
11) The Great Divide - This is the one episode I usually can’t stand, so would you believe that I ACTUALLY ENJOYED IT???? 😱 Yeah I was surprised too LOL! I watched this one mostly paying attention to Aang’s role and the conflict that plays out between Katara and Sokka, which parallels the Gan Jings vs the Zhangs, since it is 100% about Aang’s first real task as an Avatar who mediates conflict. And you know what? Aang really shines in this episode (which is really the only reason I enjoyed it). Until this point, he’s a 12-year-old kid who has been traveling the world as a free spirit, but this is his first test as an Avatar who will have to resolve conflict, because that will be his primary role in (eventual) times of peace. I used to hate the ending, and I still don’t like it, but this time I actually understand what the writers were trying to do. What Katara says to Sokka before they escape the canyon is a clue as to what the ending is about - “I don't care about this stupid feud, I just want us to get out of here alive.” Later, when the two tribes are starting to find common ground after working together to escape, they start to fight again because of their history, which cannot be changed. Aang wants the tribes to get along and end their “stupid feud,” so he tells this made-up story to rewrite that history, which is the only way he can get the tribes to listen to his message to “respect each other's differences enough to share the same playing field.” So yeah. I think the episode was trying to pass off Aang’s tactic as clever and effective, but I still find it to be.....strange. And it’s still my least favorite episode 🥲
