Daphne Blackwell
Name
The etymology comes from Greek, daphnē: Daphne was a river nymph in Greek Mythology, turned into the eponymous laurel tree by her father in order to escape the pursuit of Apollo [1]. The laurel is a shrub that was traditionally used to weave wreaths and crowns that were symbols of victory in the sporting events of Ancient Greece. Today, laurel is synonymous with achievement, and a laureate is one who an award or achievement is bestowed upon. The god Apollo is often depicted wearing laurel on his head, and notably also is Roman general Julius Caesar and the notorious French general Napoleon Bonaparte. [2]
The laurel as a symbol works perfectly because it aligns with her colors, too.
Blackwell's surname derived from Old English blæc meaning "black" and well meaning "well, spring, water hole". This is to indicate that she is a source of darkness, where black water sprouts and floods the world.
Character Design
I inspired her eyes in Roxana Agriche (The Way to Protect the Female Lead’s Older Brother). I think her eyes are the perfect sort for an evil, competent beauty! I edited these myself btw, but they are cropped directly from the manhua’s illustrations.
Tumblr media
Even if Daphne (M.) is Maedryn’s exact replica, I wanted to highlight the odds against them through character design. That’s why Daphne has long, curly white hair: long - elegant - in contrast with her mother’s shorter - practical - cut. This is a subtle rebellion in styling choices and overall presence, and the difference between their villainous vision.
Daphne’s white hair contrasts with her mother’s dark but graying hairline. The color symbolizes a sagacity beyond Daphne’s years, even beyond her own mother’s, and is proof of Maedryn’s influence on Daphne: I think Marie Antoinette Syndrome would become essential in Daphne’s deviation from her mother’s guidance, considering Maedryn’s expectations - pressure - on Daphne. It’s realistic, thinking that Maedryn’s ‘tutelage’ was what twisted her own reflection into a an unruly individual.
Portraits
These are the Picrews I used for the portraits! I don’t recall clear descriptions of the characters, so this will have to do.
綺麗な人に見下されたい|Picrew (196772) - Daphne Blackwell in the flesh! I think the green / white palette helps to convey the image of a serpent beneath the flowers. She wears something flowing and majestic, to highlight her might and glory. She hates the boring and unremarkable. She’s a leader, and her highest stats are Evil, Competence and Style! A dark figure looming over a burning city, as faceless hordes rampage through it. “Tomorrow... the universe,” it whispers.
Tumblr media
在庫処分|Picrew (69653) - I recall she used a dress and braids in her introduction, so my first visualization was Princess Leia (Star Wars). Further into the story, while she acts as a villain, she undergoes a subtle transformation involving canines and claws, and dresses the part. Kinistra appears too little in my play-through, however she’s still remarkable. She looks stunning all the time.  “Since the moment I saw her in the dungeons, I felt the spark. I think Kinistra might be the one. My nemesis.”
Tumblr media
武天式(ツヨ)女メーカー|Picrew (1532707) - Maedryn the Quantum-Witch. I considered my previous post on the matter and really relied on the color green. “She’s certainly well known, but I’ve lived my whole life in her shadow. I’m going to be my own villain, and she’s gonna know it.”
Tumblr media
Lobotomy キャラクターmaker(ver.バトル)|Picrew (234517) - I always imagined him as a brown-haired / red head with short temperature and a shorter fuse. He makes me think of Syndrome (The Incredibles) and Doc Ock (The Spectacular Spider-Man): her’s a nerd motivated by envious bile and sheer willpower. So much potential! “Aurion really does his homework. If he weren’t so likely to betray me, he would make a good minion.”
Tumblr media
うちの子キメラメーカー|Picrew (19771) - Phil, the most normal of the bunch. What an evil, hedonistic slob, but at least he’s pretty and rich. Sometimes he’s a good friend, even. Yes, I did gave him a beauty mark. Kevin the Receptionist (Ghostbusters: Answer the Call) vibes. “ [...] The most perfect young man you’ve ever seen, with the build (and wearing the elegant white drapery) of a classical statue. [...] He seems so appealing. Harmless, even.”
Tumblr media
生きてる|Picrew (34800) - Xi. I don’t have much on them. They’re just so hard to picture. I see them as an unholy mix between All For One & Kurogiri (My Hero Academy) Have some relatable Pinterest memes from the later that are TOTALLY a reflection of our favorite RA. “Do you dream, Xi?”

sooooo do you still have a fixation or interest on the grand academy for future villains?? (I'm asking bc this is the only account I've found that's posted anything relatively recently) ((also I adore aurion))
Hi yes!!! It's not currently a special interest but I still think about it regularly, and will love this game all my life. Aurion is such a blorbo to me <3 He's just a little guy. An evil little guy.
I know I haven't posted super recently, but feel free to send asks/messages about gaffv any time, I'm always willing to talk about it!
Also uhhh have some Aurion Incorrect Quotes (ft Phil and some of my OCs) from my collection.
Aurion: Honestly, I am so evil. So full of darkness. I feed of the souls of the living I strike fear into- Cazenar: You sleep with a teddybear. Aurion: He’s my sECOND IN COMMAND IN MY ARMY OF DARKNESS!
Aurion: You don’t know how empowering it is, to be able to say to yourself, “Yes, I am a despicable, filthy, villainous villain, deserving blame and censure, but that villain is who I want to be!”
Aurion: Here is my wall of inspirational people. Three: Is that a picture of you? Aurion: Yes. I am big enough to admit that I am often inspired by myself.
Aurion: I’m on a whole new adventure. Phil: Growing a moustache? Aurion: No. Bigger than that. Phil: A beard?!?
Aurion: I only feel one emotion and it’s anger. Cazenar: Last night you drunk texted me over 200 heart emojis. Aurion: Out of anger.
Aurion: Muhahahahaha! At last! I control everything! You are my pawns to do with as I please. You have no choice but to bend to my will… Yes, I own you… I am your creator! And I can be your destroyer! Three: Honestly Aurion, stop being so melodramatic. Aurion: Three! Am I not permitted an occasional moment of melodrama? Three: Yes, but it’s only a game of monopoly.

Maedryn the Quantum-Witch
So I'm playing Grand Academy for Future Villains by Katherine Nehring, and I just reached the part when Maedryn the Quantum-Witch reveals her tragic backstory as a former hero.
I can't stop picturing her character progression going from Katie "Pidge" Holt  (Voltron: Legendary Defender), - all confident and cool, a gear in the machine of something bigger, part of a whole - to Sorawo Kamikoshi (Otherside Picnic) - detached, lonely and anxious, exploring a new world, holding onto her only connection - to Nina Einsten (Code Geass) - falling into depravity, facing the worst betrayal of her life, witness of the horrors her genius created - and finally becoming a sinister version of Olivia Octavius (Earth-TRN700 / Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), a competent woman who embraces Chaos and Evil.
Like, the villanous arc, the deconstruction and degeneration of her character. I also loved the symbolic aspect of falling into black as in embracing the darkness.

Maedryn abandoning the Quantum Knights to join her mentor, Dr. Cerebrist, to the dark side.
Maedryn was right, when she said her interest in the Grand Academy came before Dr. Cerebrist's betrayal.
Unlocking Maedryn's Tragic Backstory in 'Hindsight' revealed much about her character. First, she went to the Grand Academy not to rescue her friend or to take revenge on her mentor, but for glory. I presume her role as a righteous protagonist hadn't earned her a molecule of recognition in a while, so she was unsatisfied: she wanted to prove herself through other means. Second, she actively hushed and hid from the hints that would lead her to the truth, and instead sneaked away to find treasures. Third, upon being spotted by her mentor and her friend, and realizing their double betrayal, she attempted to escape. And finally, when Dr. Cerebrist's offered his hand, she accepted without a doubt.
It was really interesting to witness. To me, it highlights how deeply Daphne knows her mother, even if Maedryn's ego blurs her vision from seeing M. as anything else than an extension of herself.

Fun Fact + Soggolp!
(I have not gotten enough info about this moist friend)
i mean i will ramble about this moist friend, and also her unmoist sisters who i am Developing, at any time but for one good fun fact:
She’s Professor Fen’s TA and is very pleased to have such a chill, non-authoratitive teacher to start with, but also the two of them go and lurk in the dungeons together once they’re done with work and just become good friends who contemplate the horrors of existence together.
Three, in 10 years time, long after Ulik stopped teaching them and is now just their mum friend: Hello, Professor. Is there anything I can help you with? And would you be able to babysit for me tomorrow night?
Soggolp, a week into being a TA: Hey Jamie look at this cool slime I found in the dungeons, had any good nightmares recently?

Okay, if you're getting into Choice of Games you have GOTTA play Choice of Robots. It's absolutely fantastic, there are so many endings and scenarios, I had fifty hours of playtime before I got rickrolled. It's amazing.
omg that sounds excellent!! I have heard a lot of good things about Choice of Robots, I will absolutely get it at some point, especially if it can rickroll me. Right now though Grand Academy for Future Villains continues to somehow be a special interest and I just spend all my time reading the source text for it.

Hi! I started playing Grand Academy for Future Villains and found this blog shortly after. I have tried to research the second game, but couldn't find anything so I tought to ask you. Can I still romance Phil in the second game? I sided with the antiheroes and then my character mom ruined everything at the start of game 2. There is a way to resurrect Phil/Get revenge on the school head and the antiheroes back? Or am I damned to loose my romance if it's him? Thank you!
Hi!
So, the good news is that A) Phil isn't dead and, if you romanced him, will eventually turn up again and B) you can certainly screw the School Head and the Academy over in this game.
The bad news is that the antiheroes plot is basically over, you're not really given the chance to respond to that, and I don't believe there's any explicit reference to the romance when Phil turns up--having him as love interest, commander or minion just sets him as Ally--although there's no reason to assume the romance is just over.
Honestly, my biggest problem with the second game is that Phil, Xi and Kinistra are hardly in it (Kinistra gets a five second cameo where you don't even interact with her, and only if she's set as an Ally), and as much as I like the new characters, almost all of them--along with Aurion--are severly under-utilised. It's not great, and the most I can offer is to very much share your frustration.
I do get the return to the status quo, but that doesn't mean it's not also frustrating. Whatever happens, this game starts with the Academy back as a straight Villain School--the anti-hero school is dismantled, and if you sided with the heroes and destroyed the Academy, the game just has you picked up from your narrative and dumped in a new one where the Academy's still going. I know it happened because people reacted badly to the Psy High sequel only being available if you'd got a certain ending in the first game, and Choice of Games wanted everyone to be able to continue their save without essentially having GAFFV2 be three seperate games, but... damn. If you could just react more to the destruction of the anti-heroes. If you could explicitly say, if you screw over the school, that this is for them. If you could free Professor Mortwain from the block of gell he just spends the entire game in. If, as a hero, you could return to your home narrative at the end of the game... Unfortunately you just have to end up headcanon the eventual second anti-hero uprising.
tl;dr Phil will be back and would presumably be down for continued romancing, but the second game is unfortunately pretty disappointing in the way it drops a load of plot and character stuff.

Hi, same asker of the antihero ask. Sorry if I keep questioning you about the game but apparently you are the only person in the internet who has expertise on it svsgdgd. So if I can screw over the School Head how do I do it? By telling the supervisors to close the academy? Or can I take it over? The intro of the game talked about the character being able to wrestle command of the clone army from their mother and I toght *that* could be a way to get revenge on everyone but I can't find HOW I'm supposed to control them. I tried being mother assistant and nemesis and leaving her trapped in the sphores and nothing works. Sorry again for bombarding you with questions and thank you for taking the time to answer the previous ask! (Maybe you should take the School Head place so I can stab him shdgdgdh)
Oh, don't apologise for giving me opportunities to go on about my special interest!! I should be thanking you for that afsdfasasdh!! (thank you very much, seriously.)
Also, I'm so sorry, I misremembered the, "I spit defiance," option with the auditors as getting the Academy closed, but yeah, checking now it's.... not actually that. I apologise that I actually do Not have expertise here; I'm way more used to trying to keep the Academy going. Your actual options are actually only to either get the Academy renewed accreditation (invite them to reconsider their decision) or independence (spit defiance). I assume this is so a third game doesn't have to basically retcon the ending of the last one again, but is kind of disappointing (especially since there's unlikely to be a third game, after the discontent with the second).
On the other hand, both endings imply you come ouf of this with a lot more power and influence, and accreditation at least hints that you might kind of be in control here now, so there's at least plenty of room to headcanon bringing down the school/bringing back the anti-heroes. (If you have Phil there, it's also possible to join the Board yourself, which could be useful for that. I'd have to check exactly which path gets that, though, and I'm not sure you can do that and use the clones.)
Using the clones is an option for both "invite them to reconsider their decision" and "spit defiance", and you should be able to do so if Maedryn's your nemesis? (Or if your relationship with her is over 65 or under 30.) It's only not an option if you demand a destiny, which I'd advise against, since that just leads to Maedryn taking over (and shooting Phil) more than you taking over. You also don't actually need to pick it to get a destiny, that's decided by narrative weight.
But yeah, sorry I was wrong earlier and that the best I can suggest is "it's easy to headcanon cool things happening rather than the game actually providing them" but I hope this helps?? The taking over the clones is at least very fun, and the School Head seems to be very much not coming out of the administrative building again.
