The funny thing about the Far Right is that there are actual receipts proving most of the seeming-conspiracies about how they operate. In this instance, paperwork that links Gamergate, Trumpism, QAnon, and mass shootings that have killed 70+ people worldwide.
Mostly because all of that is the work of one awful pornographer and his piece of shit son, and the the shitposting website they stole.
Journalist Robert Evans discusses the history of 8chan (and the growth of the Far Right online in general) with its reformed creator Fred Brennan (back in 2019).
Fred has successfully managed to keep 8chan from being revived. He was a 19 year old edgelord with debilitating brittle bone disease when he created it, and was basically abducted to the Philippines and manipulated into making it a safe space for terrorists by a shadowy millionaire racist with a debilitating persecution complex. If you have ever been an angry young person on the Internet, you should listen to this and reflect.

I was going to draw all these guys but the art gods weren't on my side so here I present their badges of shame!!
Without further ado~
Tumblr media
Congrats (not) on your freedom, dickhead. Was the boat worth both your sons?
Tumblr media
Seriously dude? Did you have to name yourself after your son's doll? AFTER you abandoned him? You and Brennan would be great pals, you can bond in Shitty Dad Jail
Tumblr media
A submission from @fairytalepsuedonym, this goddamn dude. Fuck him.
Tumblr media
This guy. Who IRONICALLY abandoned his son. What is wrong with you bro
And last but CERTAINLY not least
Tumblr media
You are one of two that didn't completely abandon his kids to fend for themselves, leaving without a trace, but you did a terrible fucking job parenting so you get zero redemption points, rot in hell
Thank you for visiting Shitty Dad Jail, now let's leave them to perish

15, 38, 86 of the book asks, please :)
Hi, thank you for sending this!
15 - a book rec you really enjoyed
I want to talk about a book a friend once gifted me for my birthday: Vermillion - The Adventures of Lou Merriweather, Psychopomp by Molly Tanzer.
What's the book about: It takes place in an alternate reality in which supernatural beings such as ghosts are real. Lou is a psychopomp, someone who deals with ghosts that refuse to leave the material world. She lives with her mom, a Chinese woman, in San Francisco of the 19th century.
One day, Lou's mom tells Lou about how young Chinese men are vanishing and essentially tasks Lou with finding out what is going on. Lou's research is leading her to a sanatorium called Fountain of Youth, in the Colorado parts of the Rocky Mountains. But it's not all as it seems and especially Dr. Panacea, the owner of the sanatorium is very suspicious...
What I love about it: Everything?? Let's start with the setting: The US of the 19th century mixed with suernatural elements (ghosts, talking bears etc). The plot is very well crafted and always keeps me on my toes whenever I read it. Did I mention it's also pretty queer? Ever since I've first read it, I wished there was a sequel or more books in this world, but it's a standalone.
38 - your favourite series
I've considered a couple different series for this one, but I've decided to recommend The Memoirs of Lady Trent's Memoirs by Marie Brennan.
Basically, take Maggie Smith's character from Downton Abbey (along with the aesthetics of Edwardian/Regency/Victorian England) and put her in a Fantasy series of five books about a young woman who is set on becoming one of her countries foremost expert on the natural history of dragons.
The series follows Isabella's life from her teenage interest in dragons, to her first marriage, to her expedition to the Green Hell, to her voyage on the Basilisk, to the desert of Akhia, and finally to what (or rather, whom) she discovered in the Sanctuary of Wings (a twist so shocking, this book might as well have been an answer to the next question!)
86 - a book with an insane plot twist
Another question that made me consider multiple books. I wanted to make sure it really *is* a really good plot twist. Is it only "insane" if you don't see it coming? But maybe that doesn't really constitute good writing.
It's ultimately come down to a tie: The Woman in White and The Moonstone, both by Wilkie Collins - a 19th century English novelist, so these books take place in that time period.
The Woman in White follows 28 y/o Walter Hartright, an art teacher who finds himself employed by a gentleman named Frederick Fairlie and falls in love with Mr Fairlie's niece, Laura. She looks stunningly similar to a woman Walter met when he was travelling to the Fairlie's house, who dresses all in white and claims to have been unfairly put in an asylum by a baronet named Sir Percival Glyde, who is also engaged to Laura Fairlie.
The Moonstone is the story of Rachel Verinder, a young woman who inherits a precious gem (aka the Moonstone) from her uncle. The uncle is estranged from the family b/c he stole the diamond after the Siege of Seringapatam when he was a soldier in the British East Empire company. On the night following Rachel's 18th birthday, the Moonstone is stolen from her rooms).
So if you love a good detective novel - these books basically inspired the genre!

Description:
"The division's expendables." That's what one division commander called the 1/9th Cavalry Blue platoons during the Vietnam War. The Blues, as they were called, were perpetually understrength and considered to be acceptable losses in hopeless situations--but their amazingly successful record proved otherwise.
Flashing Saber is memoir about mortal combat with the First Air Cavalry Division's reconnaissance squadron. Included is the account of an air-ground raid that killed more high-ranking enemy officers than any similar engagement of the war: a full colonel, four majors and four senior captains.
An expansion and careful reworking of his previous work, Brennan's War, published in 1985, and in the vein of classic memoirs by Johnnie Clark and Frederick Downs, the book is a harrowing firsthand account of life and death in war.****
Review: I’ve read Brennan’s previous book, Brennan’s War shortly after it was published in 1985. A lot of what was in it stuck with me as a classic retelling of some ones honest look at their own experience, their failures/stupidity, and both good and bad choices.
This version adds a lot more nuance and more understanding to what he experienced, and the added snippets add a lot to round out some of the people and tales without watering down the experiences or raw emotion.
His experiences are unique due to his circumstances, and most importantly, he has an excellent way of telling the story. It’s not just a cut and dry “i went here, I did this...” ... but he understands narrative, he understands human emotion, and he is able to convey things in a way many other authors of this genre actually fail to do.

leena williams
Tumblr media
╔═.✾. ═  LOG *** :  leena williams  |  cis woman, she/her |  26.
Just spotted LEENA around town.  Our records show that they remember [ everything ] from their source : warehouse 13.   They were first spotted in july 2022 and our best guess is that their last memory is artie losing control.  Archivists watching them state that they still have the just the right words, grandmother’s cozy cottage, apple pie in the oven, and an innate understanding of the world vibe about them.
━  from Armes E. Sallow’s  personal archives. ═.✾. ═╝ ↳・゜alisha wainwright .
━━━ transcribed on : 3 july 2022❃゜・。. ・°゜  notes collected by tal brennan.  transcription annotated by tal brennan, archivist.
ARMES: thank you for coming in.  can you tell me your name and where you are from?
Sure.  I’m Leena Williams, though I almost took on the name Frederick for a while there.  I’m from the States, as I’m sure you can tell.  North Dakota specifically, though I know a lot of people from here won’t recognize that name.
ARMES: and what is the last thing you remember from your home?
I remember Artie, and trying to help him.  I don’t know exactly how I got here, but if it is in the same reality that I’m from, I hope he shows up here.
ARMES: I ask this because we have a history of memory loss in town.  do you feel as though you have any blanks in your memories?
No.  I actually have a rather good memory, except for a few bits of time where my memory should be foggy.  Mrs. Frederick took care of it.
ARMES: is this Mrs. Frederick where you would have gotten the name from?
Yes. She took me in after my parents died, and made sure that I had a home and always felt safe and loved.  She was my mother, in most ways.
ARMES: i see you haven’t been in town for much time.  are you starting to feel settled, looking for a job?
Well I went to Bivin and Cecil’s right away.  When in doubt, find a Bred and Breakfast.  I’m actually going to see if the owner needs any help.  I’ve got quite the experience with them, you see.
ARMES: what, do you think, was the strangest thing you saw before arriving in this town?
I think this interview would go on for far too long if I explained that.
ARMES: do you believe in the supernatural or mythical?
[there’s a pause in the tape] I think that there are a lot of things that are hard to explain in this world, and people have different names for them.  Whether it be mythical, supernatural, advanced technology.  Strange things happen, and us humans like to put a name to it.
ARMES: what kind of traits would your friends or family give you?
Centering is what a lot of people use.  Calm, though that’s not to say I can’t get angry.  Understanding, empathetic - though I know that word has been tainted.
ARMES: is there anything else you would like to say?
No, nothing to you.
❃゜・。. ・°゜
notes collected by tal brennan
Armes wished it to be noted that despite her friendly and open nature in the dialogue of the interview, Armes couldn’t help but feel as though there was more going on under the service.  From my research, that doesn’t seem surprising.  Leena (her surname never given in source material) is a hones-to-gods Aura reader.  She is from the SyFy TV show Warehouse 13, where she worked for an organization that collected strange artifacts to ensure they did not fall in the wrong hands.  Leena managed the BnB the agents stayed in, and she also assisted in organizing the artifacts as her abilities allowed her to see and understand them in different ways.
She was particularly close to Mrs. Frederick, Artie, Pete, and Mikah, though seemed to make friends with most of the team that went in and out.  Even Claudia, who she got off on the wrong foot with, grew attached to her.  If she is going to reach out to Ahsoka, it could be a good addition to our quite unique BnB.
danger rating: 2/10 likelihood to investigate: 7/10

EFESIOS 1:3-10

Stop the Insanity
“Stop trying to protect, to rescue, to judge, to manage the lives around you . . remember that the lives of others are not your business. They are their business. They are God’s business . . . even your own life is not your business. It also is God’s business. Leave it to God. It is an astonishing thought. It can become a life-transforming thought . . . unclench the fists of your spirit and take…
