Machine To Human: Transcription & Data Processing
Transcription is a task that is easy on the outside but difficult on the inside. It looks like a very simple and not-so-useful approach for business, but you will be amazed at its benefits.  By definition – transcription is the process of voice-to-text conversion. But there is certainly a lot more to it. It is estimated that a person can speak approximately 150–170 words per minute. Most of us…

Tumblr media
The downfall of Raccoon City left you jobless. Hopeless, to be more specific. You felt like you had contacted every agency nationwide, trying to send in very few transcripts of your experience and degree.
You making it out was even shocking. Time goes by so fast that memory fades in and out, and the blinking of lighting in the sky shining against your face makes your eyes shift back to reality. You were always stuck in your thoughts. You have finally been accepted to a training program for special services with the government. The phone call when you were received wasn’t very eventful, and they told you that no matter what experience you had, there were no references, so they can’t just take your word. Three weeks of training, then more compliance training, and maybe you’ll get a desk job.
Just go, and get it over with. The bus ride there is thirty minutes, back and forth. Your arm grabbed at the railing as you stood, walking down the aisle. Your earbuds pressed so far into your ears that you still had an empty gaze. On days like today, when it’s rainy, you are reminded of when you were doing the training, shaping people into articulate cops. Having to face those days was hard, especially as you walked into the tall building where the training occurred.
You pulled the loud music from your ears, being met by the silence of the lobby. Your sneakers squeaked against the floor as you stood at the front desk, the woman with her glasses perched on the bridge of her nose peering up at you.
“Name.”
She spoke in her monotone voice. Her lips smacked at the gum in her mouth.
“Um, Y/N.”
Her head was shaking, her bracelets jangling as she typed into the computer in front of her before standing and pointing down the long hallway.
“All the way down, room 17.”
Your eyes followed her finger to see the open room at the end of the hall; your body was telling you to leave; you know you’re supposed to trust your gut. Yet you continued to walk down the hallway, your head poking into the open room.
A man’s back faced you, his hands reading through a file, utterly oblivious to your presence. He wore black cargo pants. He still leaned forward as his eyes scanned over the papers. His blue shirt looked like it was perfectly made for him, is it wrong to admire? No, right?
“Sorry, am I in the right place?”
You finally spoke up, your hand holding at the strap of your purse. The air grew thin as the man turned to you, his eyes deep and his stare narrowing. You felt like the air had been stolen from your lungs.
“Leon?”
Your voice was on the verge of quivering, with your eyes studying his face. He has matured so much, maybe a little too much. His eyes were darker, and he was much broader, with wider shoulders, and he lost that friendly kiss to his face. You honestly thought he had been dead. You checked the death toll on the private case daily, waiting for it to go up or down
Leon cleared his throat, gaining your attention as he stepped to the center of the room. You placed your bag down by the door, walking to the center. How could he see you and just be silent? You couldn’t tell, but he was burning, his heart ached when he pulled open your file, but he found it funny how the tables turned so quickly.
Leon reached into his back pocket, handing you a small pocket knife before pulling out his own. He craned his neck to the side as you stared down at the knife in your hand, your fingers wrapping around the handle in confusion before your body flew back at Leon swinging his pocket knife in your face. You stared up at him, bewildered as his stance had changed entirely, coming down to turn at you again, your knife meeting his. You pushed him back, a familiar sparkle shining off his teeth as he smirked at you slightly. Sweat formed on both of your foreheads as it felt like you were swinging at each other forever, Leon’s leg coming out, pushing you to your back before he reached down, holding at your arms tightly. Since when did he become so strong? Your throat groaned out of defeat as he pushed his blade inches away from your face. He pushed himself off you, whistling at you to get up. Your knees cracked as you pulled yourself to stand. Leon glared down at you.
“You have to be faster. I shouldn’t have even had the opportunity to kick you to the ground. One bad move, and you have a knife right here.”
Leon’s finger pushed between your eyebrows, a hiss quickly leaving his lips as your blade glazed over his skin. His eyes narrowed at you, and he knew you would be hell to train. The two of you continued to swing at each other, your fists balling up as he knocked the knife from your hand.
“What’s your move, rookie?”
Leon’s voice was so taunting. The way he wasn’t even trying is what pissed you off. He dodged most of your punches but not all of them. Your knuckles came in contact with his, his palm opening to close around your fist. So quickly, you were pressed against his chest, his knife to your throat. Your eyes squeezed in frustration as you felt his hot breath on your neck. His grip didn’t last long, pushing you off him. Your fingers reach up to touch the small trickle of blood off your neck from when he pushed you off him.
“Again, faster.”
————
Faster.
Leon’s favorite words.
Exhausted was the only word to describe how you felt. When you trained Leon, you were never this harsh on him; he was a sneaky son of a bitch. Your head is shoved in the pillows of your bed, sprawled out with papers all around the room because Leon quizzes you so randomly that you must be ready.
Leon couldn’t help but stand over you, watching your chest rise and fall. He shook his head before he spun the water in his hand, throwing it down onto your face. You gasped for breath, shooting up and reaching for your gun. Leon marked down a point in his head as he noticed the safety to your gun wasn’t on, your arms flinging as you aimed the gun at him before your eyes fluttered open.
“Leon? Are you fucking.. insane! What if I fucking shot you!”
Your voice rose with every word as your shaky hand pulled at the safety again, laying the gun back down on your bed. Leon snapped his fingers before he clapped his hands together.
“Let’s go. I have a three-mile run for you, now.”
You stared at him, so sleepy. Your head nodded as you flipped him off, standing as he walked towards your bedroom door. His eyes shifted away as you stepped out of bed in the cutest pair of black cotton panties. The conversations between the two of you were short, you never spoke to him, and he never did to you unless it was demands. His back was turned to you as your shaky legs stood, digging through your drawer. You stood in place, staring at the shorts in your drawer before you slammed it shut, crossing your arms as you turned to Leon.
“Leave.”
Leon turned to you, his eyebrows raised. The frustration built in your body as you pointed to the door, your throat growing dry as tears built in your eyes.
“Go! Just leave me the fuck alone! I’ll be at training in the morning. Just leave!”
You screamed, your voice cracking as you rubbed at the bags under your eyes. Walking towards Leon, pushing him out of your room before slamming the floor in his face. Your forehead rested against the door, so sleepy still. Leon stared at the shut door, listening to you lock the door. Leon cursed under his breath as he replayed it all in his head, watching the tears build in your eyes.
It was crazy how easily he shut down all the emotions he felt, his shoes shuffling on the floor as he walked out your front door with a harsh slam.
——
A loud grunt left Leon’s lips as your leg swung under him, dropping him to the floor. Your neck leaned against your shoulders as you cracked it, the pocket knife resting in your hand as you looked down at him. You couldn’t help but laugh as Leon stood, cracking his knuckles.
“Fine, you’ve improved. Is that what you wanna hear, rookie?”
You hummed as you stepped back, wiping the sweat off your forehead and nodding at him with a shrug.
“If I keep putting you on your ass, maybe I'll take your job, huh, Kennedy?”
Leon’s jaw grew tight as he watched you sit down. You were growing overly cocky, and he was right. You were putting him on his ass, you did teach him everything he knows. The two of you sat silently, the air growing tense as Leon scribbled on some papers.
——-
The papers in your hands shook with your trembling body as your eyes had to read over them again.
“DENIED”
In bright red at the middle of the paper, your eyes scanned to the bottom of the page to see Leon’s signature line empty.
Where could you have gone wrong? You were even starting to be so sweet; you’d bring extra water for him every day in case he forgot his and even packed him a lunch once a week.
It’s only five; he doesn’t leave till eight. Even though the doors were locked up front, you knew you could find a way in.
A loud groan fell from your lips at the fall from the window, and your hands staggered to the ground as you stood up. You had to give him a piece of your mind, your arm still holding at your purse as you walked down the hall. Maybe you were crazy breaking into official government offices, but you could always get away with it by blaming Leon.
Coercion.
Your body pushed into his office, throwing the paperwork down onto the desk before turning around and quietly shutting and locking the door.
“Sign it.”
You pointed to the line. Leon stared at your finger before scoffing as he scribbled at the other paperwork before him.
Coercion.
“Sign the paperwork or… I’ll write a letter to your boss that the night you snuck into my house, you and I had sex. When you were supposed to be working.”
You stumbled over your words, your hands flipping at the paperwork in front of you.
Coercion.
Before you could even flip the next page Leon had stood, his hand wrapping tightly around your throat before slamming you into the wall. A loud whimper leaving your lips but was muffled by his much bigger hand covering your mouth.
“God you’re stupid, so fucking stupid..”
Leon lectured as he pressed his hand harder into your mouth and throat, your eyes fluttering as you felt your vision getting hazy.
Knock knock.
Leon’s grip remains on you as he turned his head to the door, his demeanor changing as he put a more professional toned voice on.
“Yeah?”
Heels clicked as the woman tried opening the door, it’s the girl from the front desk.
“Is everything okay? I heard a loud thud.”
Leon’s eyes fixed back on you, so pretty and scared against his hand.
“Everything is perfect. Just dropped some files. You can go.”
Leon listened to her heels walk down the hall way, his stare burning into you before he finally looked over at the paperwork on his desk.
“You want it signed? Work for it.”
Leon whispers in your ear as his much taller form draped over you, pushing you down to your knees.

GMA's Will Reeve and Prince Harry: Full transcript (per the DM) by u/Von_und_zu_
GMA's Will Reeve and Prince Harry: Full transcript (per the DM) For anyone who wishes to avoid hearing his voice....From the DM article entitled: Prince Harry says he has 'other trips' to Britain planned after telling US TV he 'loves his family' and hopes King Charles' cancer diagnosis has a 'reunifying effect'.
FYI - his "other trips" include a trip in May for a service at St Paul's for 10th anniversary of Invictus. Seems to me like an event designed specifically as royal cosplay. He says: I will stop in and see my family as much as I can.'" Will they receive him?
https://ift.tt/6mYNXBZ
Reeve: 'How did you get the news that the King was ill?
Prince Harry: 'I spoke to him.'
Reeve: 'And what did you do next?
Harry: 'I jumped on a plane and went to go and see him as soon as I could.'
Reeve: 'How was that visit for you, emotionally?'
Harry: 'Um, look, I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I'm grateful for that.'
Reeve: 'What's sort of your outlook on his health?
Harry: 'That stays between me and him.'
Reeve: 'An illness in the family can have a galvanizing or sort of reunifying effect for a family. Is that possible in this case?'
Harry: 'Absolutely. Yeah, I'm sure. Throughout all these families I see it on a day-to-day basis, again, the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness, any sickness brings families together. I see it time and time again, and that makes me very happy.'
Reeve: 'Just physically being in California, how have you processed the fact that there's so much happening back with your family and where you come from?'
Harry: 'I have my own family, as we all do, right? My family and my life in California is as it is. I have got other trips planned that would take me through the UK or back to the UK. I will stop in and see my family as much as I can.'
Reeve: 'That's my next question, right, your family. How is Harry the dad?'
Harry: 'How's what?
Reeve: 'How's Harry the dad?'
Harry: 'I can't tell you.'
Reeve: 'That's top secret? Really? Making lunches.'
Harry: 'It's top secret. No, the kids are doing great. The kids are growing up like all kids do, very very fast. They have both got an incredible sense of humour and make us laugh and keep us grounded every single day, like most kids do. So I'm just very grateful to be a dad.'
Reeve: 'How are you enjoying your time living in the US.'
Harry: 'It's amazing. I love every single day.'
Reeve: 'Do you feel American?'
Harry: 'Er, do I feel American? No. I don't know how I feel.'
Reeve: 'Would you think about becoming a citizen?
Harry: 'I have considered it, yeah.'
Reeve: 'Yeah? What would stop you from doing it?'
Harry: 'I have no idea. I'm here standing here next to this with these guys. American citizenship is a thought that has crossed my mind but certainly not something that's a high priority for me right now.'
Reeve: 'Aside from Invictus, what's keeping you busy when you're out of the house?'
Harry: 'Everything. Everything in the house, everything outside the house. The mission continues. Every element of the work continues. Before you know it, February next year, this time of the year, this time we're gonna be right here doing all this again. Hopefully you'll be here. And we're going to have the whole of Whistler and hopefully the whole of Canada screaming these guys on for an epic games.' post link: https://ift.tt/t0C4Khp author: Von_und_zu_ submitted: February 16, 2024 at 08:16PM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit

This is such bullshit. They’ve decided that there’s too much money going to causes that don’t align with corporate interests so they’re going to only give to things they agree with - including their own disaster relief.

Dear customer,
In 2013, we launched AmazonSmile to make it easier for customers to support their favorite charities. However, after almost a decade, the program has not grown to create the impact that we had originally hoped. With so many eligible organizations—more than 1 million globally—our ability to have an impact was often spread too thin.
We are writing to let you know that we plan to wind down AmazonSmile by February 20, 2023. We will continue to pursue and invest in other areas where we’ve seen we can make meaningful change—from building affordable housing to providing access to computer science education for students in underserved communities to using our logistics infrastructure and technology to assist broad communities impacted by natural disasters.
To help charities that have been a part of the AmazonSmile program with this transition, we will be providing them with a one-time donation equivalent to three months of what they earned in 2022 through the program, and they will also be able to accrue additional donations until the program officially closes in February. Once AmazonSmile closes, charities will still be able to seek support from Amazon customers by creating their own wish lists.
As a company, we will continue supporting a wide range of other programs that help thousands of charities and communities across the U.S. For instance:
Housing Equity Fund: We’re investing $2 billion to build and preserve affordable housing in our hometown communities. In just two years, we’ve provided funding to create more than 14,000 affordable homes—and we expect to build at least 6,000 more in the coming months. These units will host more than 18,000 moderate- to low-income families, many of them with children. In one year alone, our investments have been able to increase the affordable housing stock in communities like Bellevue, Washington and Arlington, Virginia by at least 20%.
Amazon Future Engineer: We’ve funded computer science curriculum for more than 600,000 students across over 5,000 schools—all in underserved communities. We have plans to reach an additional 1 million students this year. We’ve also provided immediate assistance to 55,000 students in our hometown communities by giving them warm clothes for the winter, food, and school supplies.
Community Delivery Program: We’ve partnered with food banks in 35 U.S. cities to deliver more than 23 million meals, using our logistics infrastructure to help families in need access healthy food – and we plan to deliver 12 million more meals this year alone. In addition to our delivery services, we’ve also donated 30 million meals in communities across the country.
Amazon Disaster Relief: We’re using our logistics capabilities, inventory, and cloud technology to provide fast aid to communities affected by natural disasters. For example, we’ve created a Disaster Relief Hub in Atlanta with more than 1 million relief items ready for deployment, our Disaster Relief team has responded to more than 95 natural disasters, and we’ve donated more than 20 million relief products to nonprofits assisting communities on the ground.
Community Giving: We support hundreds of local nonprofits doing meaningful work in cities where our employees and their families live. For example, each year we donate hundreds of millions of dollars to organizations working to build stronger communities, from youth sport leagues, to local community colleges, to shelters for families experiencing homelessness.
We’ll continue working to make a difference in many ways, and our long-term commitment to our communities remains the same—we’re determined to do every day better for our customers, our employees, and the world at large.

so apart from betterhelp being ragingly unethical in the sense of hating privacy, it's also ragingly unethical in the sense of being pro-occupation
[link transcript: twitter thread by jennine @jennineak
Feel like I can share my story about BetterHelp.
During a particularly dark time and being affected by Israeli lobbyist attacks on me and my livelihood, feeling paralysed, lost, I signed up to trial online therapy. How BetterHelp works is that it matches you with a therapist after 24 hrs. You’re able to ask for the kind of therapist you want — if you prefer someone who is not white etc which I did. I wrote a few paragraphs about the immense anxiety from racism I’d been experiencing, a very lonely feeling as a Palestinian in this world.
Within an hour, I was surprised to get a match with a therapist from NYC. She was a white woman, had her credentials up but I also searched her up on LinkedIn as I wanted to understand if she was someone who could get what I’ve been experiencing. I discovered that she lived between NYC and occupied Palestine as a settler. I’d never shut down an account so fast.
It felt strange that this happened — it seemed intentional. So I looked up info on the founders of BetterHelp (which I should’ve done before) and discovered that it is an Israeli company founded in 2013 by two men in who served in the Israeli occupation forces.
All this to say: don’t sign up to BetterHelp and/or close your account if. Be wary of who you share what you’re experiencing, had me questioning what they do with our info. It’s no secret that these Israeli tech companies can use people’s information in service of the state, as many of these start up founders work in or have work in intelligence units, and it’s particularly scary when it involves therapy & bearing your vulnerabilities and anxieties. I have not bothered with therapy since. It was the first time in a long time that I felt I really needed it, esp after years of harassment, smears, attempted legal proceedings against me and legal action I took last year that affected me deeply but am not at liberty to speak on.

[????]: It’s so good to see you again.

[Attendant]: Economy or First Class?

[Attendant]: Okay, one economy ticket to Valencia. That comes to one hundred and sixty seven.
[Girl#1]: That’s the Princess of Monaca.
[Girl #2]: What is she doing here?
[Eleanor]: Oh my god. I don't, I don't have my wallet.
[Attendant]: Next!

[Eleanor]: I just need to get past that gate.
[Eleanor]: The man I love is boarding that plane and he doesn't know that I want to spend the rest of my life with him and if he leaves, he's not just leaving Monaca.
[Attendant]: Ma'am, I wish I could help, but you have to pay for the ticket. It’s our policy. I'm sorry.
[Man#2]: I'll pay for her ticket!
[Man#2]: I have a soft spot for romantic gestures, Your Highness.
[Eleanor]: I don’t know what to say, thank you so much.
[Man#2]: Go get your Prince.

The Bicentennial: The Invitation or The Tour that almost never was
As some of you surely are aware, the Bicentennial of La Fayette’s Tour through America in 1824/25 is fast approaching and many organizations/institutes, especially in America, have already made some form of content regarding this event.
Let us have a look at one document that stands at the start of this event – the invitation La Fayette received from the then President James Monroe on February 7, 1824.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
‘Monroe and Lafayette’ (no date) Highland. Available at: https://highland.org/teacher-resources/monroe-and-lafayette/ (02/21/2024).
Everybody who has ever worked with Monroe’s papers will tell you, that his handwriting was often not, well, legible. This is completely off-topic, but one of my favourite quotes about Monroe is this statement by Edmund Bacon, one of Thomas Jeffersons overseer’s. He wrote that:
Mr. Jefferson and Mr. Madison both wrote a plain, beautiful hand, but you could write better with your toes than Mr. Monroe wrote.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: A Look at Penmanship (2012) Monticello. Available at: https://www.monticello.org/research-education/blog/the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly-a-look-at-penmanship/ (02/21/2024).
(And let us not forget that Andrea Gray wrote in the same blog post, concerning Monroe’s penmanship: “Any idea who penned that abomination?”)
I think it is not quite that bad, but Monroes handwriting is also not the subject at hand, so back to the letter. Luckily, there is a transcript by Hampton Kennedy for James Monroe’s Highland:
[Transcription Page 1] Washington Feby [February]. 7th. 1824 My dear sir I wrote you about a fortnight since, a letter which I forwarded to New York to the care of Mr Brown, in which I intimated my desire in at liberty case you felt yourself ^ to visit the Ustates [United States], to send a frigate to some port of France, to receive and bring you over. Since then Congrefs [Congress] have pafsed [passed] a re- -solution, to that effect, expression of the affectionate attachment of the whole nation to you, and of their de- -sire to see you again among us. The period at which you may deem it proper, to accept this invitation, is life to yourself, but you may be afsured [assured], that when- -ever it may comport with your views, of which you will have the goodnefs [goodness] to advise me, a public ship shall be immediately orderd [ordered] to the port which you may designate, to carry you to the country of your adoption in early life, + [and] which has always che- -rished the most grateful recollection of your im- -portant services. I send you here with a copy of the resolution, and have only to add, the [Transcription Page 2] afsurance [assurance] of my high consideration and affectionate regard. James Monro
‘Monroe and Lafayette’ (no date) Highland. Available at: https://highland.org/teacher-resources/monroe-and-lafayette/ (02/21/2024).
And as easy as inviting La Fayette in the end was for Monroe, writing a short and simple letter, the process leading up to Monroe writing this letter was somewhat debated. Allow me to take you back to the House of Representatives on January 12, 1824, when the notion to invite La Fayette was first introduced.
Tumblr media
Annals of Congress, 18th Congress, 1st session, I, p. 988.
The bill took its usual route from there and on the next day, the resolution was read again and was voted on – and I know what you are all thinking. Of course the resolution passed! We all know that the Tour took place and America and Americans had such high esteem for La Fayette. They had already supported and honoured him in so many ways, most notable during the French Revolution, his imprisonment and the financial struggles following his release. Well, no. The resolution was negatived by 80 to 74 – a small margin granted, but a defeat, nonetheless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Annals of Congress, 18th Congress, 1st session, I, p. 1004-1005
Around the same time La Fayette lost his reelection for his seat in the Chambre des Députés – and now even America did not want him? Well, it was not quite that dramatic for our Marquis.
First of all, the wording of the notion was not all it could be, and a committee was there for formed to change the way the bill was phrased. Furthermore, and in contrast to his earlier visits to America, La Fayette had long outgrown “his charming, rich boy-general”-image. He had become a serious politician and a household name in Europe and European politics. His values and agendas were well known. Revolutions were spreading all throughout the western world and at that time the Greek War of Independence (1821-1829) was raging and in South America many regions declared independence and formed Republics. More generally speaking, the 1820s were a time of Revolution and La Fayette, as a general rule of thumb, always sided with the revolutionaries, the ones that fought for freedom (however you want to define the term) and independence. He loudly advocated for Greek and South America, he gave money to Italian and Spanish exiles. In short, he was advocating for Revolution and not everyone liked that. In 1815, after Napoléon Bonaparte’s final defeated the so-called Holly Alliance (Austrian Empire and the Kingdoms of Russia and Prussia) was formed with the expressed aim to keep liberalism in check. In America itself there were varying opinions on how to respond to what was happening and these subjects became even more prominent with Monroe’s presidency and his Monroe-Doctrine. Add to this La Fayette’s dislike for the principles of slavery. Slavery was in the 1820’s not quite such a hot topic as it would later be, but it was still a touchy subject and La Fayette’s opinions, as with everything else, were well known. And, as Mr. William of North Carolina remarked, was the Congress sure that La Fayette even wanted to come?
With all that in mind, the resolution was amended and reintroduced on January 20, 1824:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Annals of Congress, 18th Congress, 1st session, I, p. 1101-1104.
After the new text and a letter by La Fayette expressing his desire to return to America once more before his death were read, the resolution was unanimously agreed upon. There is no hard evidence, but some contextual evidence suggesting that Monroe really urged Congress to pass the resolution.
The problem therefor was not with La Fayette as a person. There still was the deep connection between a man and a people who both owned each other a great deal. The visit was a personal affair that had also a strong political connection, both on a national and an international level. It was a “yes” from America to La Fayette and his believes and it also was a “yes” from La Fayette to America and American politics. And while everything went down just fine, there was still the question regarding the implications this invitation and visit had. Monroe, a personal friend of the La Fayette’s, who had helped Adrienne a great deal during the French Revolution and who supposedly had urged Congress to pass said resolution, wrote, somewhat anxiously, to Thomas Jefferson on October 18, 1824:
His mov’ment, since his arrival in the UStates, has been well directed. Had he visited this city in the first instance, the compromitment of the govt, with the holy alliance, would have been much greater, than by going directly to our fellow citizens, & from them to the govt. By this course, the nation has the credit. The holy alliance, & all the govts of Europe, must therefore look to us, as an united people, devoted to the principles of our revolution & of free republican government.
“To Thomas Jefferson from James Monroe, 18 October 1824,” Founders Online, National Archives, https://founders.archives.gov/documents/Jefferson/98-01-02-4634. [This is an Early Access document from The Papers of Thomas Jefferson: Retirement Series. It is not an authoritative final version.] (02/21/2024).
And that is, in summary, how La Fayette’s visit to America in 1824/1825 came to be.

I got a really boring hate mail I deleted immediately, (git gud) but it reminded me that I've been meaning to offer transcription services for free for certain content. I'm not a professional, but I type quite fast and as long as I can rewind the recording then I can guarantee a high level of accuracy. My hearing isn't 100% though so if it's not clear I may struggle. Some examples on my blog.
The service is free as long as it's a speech, interview, podcast or something similar that shares the voices of an occupied people. This includes Palestine, Sudan, Congo, Hawaii, or anyone in the world resisting colonialism.
I'll transcribe sections photographed from books as well, though I won't do more than about a page.
You can @ me on any post if you want a transcription or image description for any anti-colonial cause. DM me for larger requests. Happy to provide Closed Captions for educational videos.
Freedom for all occupied people, from Turtle Island to Aotearoa.

Hi,
I saw that you helped someone in the past with the Dwarvish translation for their tattoo. I'd like to ask for your help. My husband is wanting "My wings are a hurricane" translated but I can find any source at all on the word for wings, and the only thing I can come up for, for hurricane, is 'mighty wind'. Any help you can give would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Rae
Hi there, Thank you for your patience. A wonderful piece of a quote from the Hobbit indeed (The Hobbit, Ch. 12 "'Inside Information").
“My armor is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath death!”
Tumblr media
Smaug is his signature boastful over-confidence (eventually getting him killed) is what makes him such a perfect villain in my view. Not only is he not your typical 2D fantasy monster, he is a carefully crafted complex character that talks with the aggressive civility of British aristocracy (which bewilders all that hear it by overwhelming greed) and at the same time cannot get enough of far-too-obvious flattery. Almost a shame he dies so quickly in the book and we don't get to hear more of him.... almost. Your requested translation/transcription:
Tumblr media
If we have a closer look at the Neo-Khuzdul translation we see: ◉ "agâhê": "my-wings" (agâh = wings / -ê = my) ◉ "tâtîn": (they)-are ◉ "mulumikhbênbagd": hurricane, whirlwind, tornado, gyre (consisting of "mulum" = quick, fast, speedy / "ikhbên" = twirling/whirling (the act of) / "bagd" = wind. So literally "mulumikhbênbagd" means "fast whirling wind"). The majority of these words you can find in the Dictionary on the site, though I believe "hurricane" is currently not listed yet (as it is still in the current draft, to be published later). Ever at your service, The Dwarrow Scholar

Alright, different channel today. Different channel and different state. I have made my way into West Virginia. And good lord, is it beautiful. I’m definitely avoiding all the flat just the way I wanted, but I am a little worried now that the mountains are going to make these signals even less likely to reach anyone.
I’m keeping my eye out for a better antenna, something I could boost the signal with. I don’t know much about this thing–radios aren’t my specialty–but I’ve always been good at tinkering with things and I pick stuff up quick. It’s why I got into the line of work I did. You need to be able to improvise, figure things out fast, and you’ve gotta be good with your hands.
I like discovering the way things work. In that sense, I bet you’d think this whole situation these past years has been my paradise. How do you improvise when the power’s out and the water stops being clean and you can’t get emergency services for shit because there might not be any kind of services at all anymore? I mean, sounds like a fun fair to me.
The reality got old fast. But I think I was able to build a pretty decent existence. It’s why I think I can do it again. I take comfort in the knowledge that if this car breaks down, I can fix it, and if it really breaks down, I can get another one going. There’s certainly enough of them scattered around.
Though not as many as I thought there’d be. I also expected the stores to be a lot more picked over. The gas stations, yeah, are mostly empty, but I think my odds of getting a stronger antenna are actually pretty good. I dropped into a hardware store late yesterday to get a tire gauge and air pump and the place felt…if not fully stocked, partly. And it’s not like I’m in the middle of absolutely nowhere, I’m still on a major highway. So why isn’t everything completely picked over?
[click, static]
I have seen a couple of lights on here or there, which I can’t make any sense of. One of them was a roadside burger joint–their neon ‘open’ sign was glowing like it was new. So I went in and…well, I didn’t expect to see anyone, I didn’t want to get my hopes up, but I thought maybe…maybe there’d be a phone that still worked or a water heater or a working gas line.
It was the strangest thing. The neon sign was on. And the jukebox. And one of the lights over the counter. But nothing else. The phone was dead, none of the light switches seemed to do anything.
I did try playing a tune on the jukebox but…I don’t have any quarters. Why would I? I haven’t used money for anything in years.
But anyway, it all got me thinking…if I could find a working radio tower, could I boost this signal? As it stands, I’ve just got to keep driving round and round and round until I get lucky enough to come into range with another CB. But if parts of the grid are still working, then maybe—
[click, static]
Maybe it doesn’t matter. Maybe it wouldn’t make a difference because maybe there is no one to find. And I’ll just keep tuning into a new frequency every single day and talking to the air.
[click, static]
But I think it’s…helping. Even if I’m not talking to anybody.
[click, static]
Maybe because I’m not talking to anybody. If no one can hear me, there’s no consequence to anything I say. And talking to yourself isn’t embarrassing or sad if no one knows it’s happening. Right?
So, who knows, maybe I’ll keep going on this no matter what happens. I’ve got nothing to lose.
Signing off.

WRU Press Release (March 23, 2020)
{Day 10: In-BBU-media} Create a piece of media that could exist within the BBU - everything from twitter post to newspaper feature to ad transcript to WRU press release! Pet lib call for action to desperate owner self help reddit thread. Go wild!
I know WRU is usually set in the near-future, but I got to wondering how they would have handled the early pandemic. This isn't a well written press release (thanks mysterious illness[s] that have been killing my life the past few weeks), but I'm going to blame the employees in-universe who were overwhelmed by everything and just rushing to get it out the door...
WRU Announces New Pickup Acquisitions with Fast Payment; Online Ordering and Support Remain Open; Confirms Employee Compensation Continues
March 23, 2020 — Arlington, VA — WRU Inc, the nation's leading Pet and Service Companion company, announced today that its temporary pause on retail acquisitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic will not stop it from allowing new applicants to sign up. WRU now offers same-day pickups and Same Day Rewards™ across North America, giving even those without transportation a new path forward in life.
Same Day Rewards™ is a new initiative that delivers full payment to an applicant's designated recipient within twenty-four hours of acceptance. Applicants may also choose to have part of their remuneration paid in groceries and other necessities delivered straight to their loved ones' homes.
"We know times are tough, and we want all members of the WRU family to feel taken care of," said Jennifer Wakelyn, CEO of WRU Inc. "Whether that's assisting the families of our newest associates or providing in-home childcare to our retail operatives who are now working remotely, WRU is committed to our people, as we've shown by consistently being scored as one of the best employers in America." (Fortune 2019 and Business Week 2019 surveys, among others).
"Part of taking care of our people is safety, and that is absolutely our top priority. To ensure the safety of our employees and our customers, we have worked with doctors and epidemiologists to design a quarantine system that minimizes risk to all," Wakelyn continued. "Although we have had to close our retail locations, we want to reassure everyone that they can still rely on WRU, on our support, and on our products."
The newly designed quarantine procedures include a minimum of three days isolation followed by testing for all outgoing orders and in-coming acquisitions. Customers can request further measures, which will be added free for Caregivers and Service Pets or for a small surcharge on all other designations.
As noted in Friday's press release, all online shopping options remain open, and dedicated support team members have moved to a "work-from-home" environment that will assist them in providing industry-leading assistance to all customers and applicants. Employees at the company's thousands of retail locations across the country are being fully compensated while their workplaces are shut down.
