A Nightingale Sings Kansas Fields Sneak Peek
Wherein we get a bit of 'Uncle' Gabriel with little Esther, Crowley and Aziraphales Kid, a little context is this is post season 2, and so Crowley is raising Esther on their own with others
As they say, it takes a Village
Love this baby
.
.
The little girl ran across the cornfields as the sun hung low in the sky, red hair trailing behind as she spread her wings and lept soaring upwards before she flew low to the ground, stalking behind a person at the edge of the fields, watching them as they took dirt into their fingers feeling it as she lept, letting out a shrill laugh, as she caught the other by surprise as they gave a yelp, before he too started laughing
"Oh no, the child's got me whatever shall I do." They gave a feign cry as she laughed, the Archangel smiled fondly at the little girl as she responded with
"Mmmm I don't know Uncle Gabriel, feed me to a hellhound?
The man snorted, shaking his head, his niece clung before deciding to slide off stretching brown wings following,
"You are just like your Papa," he said with the same fondess
She grinned up at him, oh that smile that melted him as it reminded them of the child's sire.....Aziraphale the way her eyes sparkled with mischief though was all Crowley as the little one asked cocking her head,
"Which one?"
Gabriel broke out into more laughter, laying a hand in the auburn curls on her head before scooping the child into their arms
"Right now? Both of them,"

I like the idea of esther being able to fluster people really easily and doesn't even know he's doing it
Hcs of esther doing this with kalim and this new kalim poly?
I will like to first show, with your ask included, this is how much asks I have
Tumblr media
Which I thought was funny as Hell
On to the ask!
Tumblr media
You know Kalim isn't the only one who gets flustered over Esther being fucking hot okay?
The ones who get the worst of the while thing are; Kalim, Deuce, Azul, Sebek, Riddle, Neige, Rollo, Cater, Jamil, Ace, Epel though he tries to hide it, and Idia
There's very few simple things that Esther does that would get the motor's over heated and one of them is when they sing this song
The moment music starts and bat sings this song everyone just slowly melts at that hypnotic voice and the black nails running through that beautiful hair
Rollo and Kalim specifically get extra "Oh damn" when they get on their knees and get stare at the "crowd" during the whisper
If Amyir is still here and isn't dating Rollo but is instead dating Giles than he teases Rollo A LOT
Another song that gets their heart rates increasing is this one
Oh my Goddness you can not even picture the face on some of their faces seeing them sway with the mic in a super cute skirt or dress
These two are just Esther just getting to singing and the music and literally has zero idea what bat did lol-
If I can bring back a video I showed you, this would be their reactions seeing Esther change and meanwhile they just shrug and keep changing lol
Kalim gets super flustered over the idea of Esther leaning on him and talking near his ear and he just sits there all red like
Tumblr media
Arie gets flustered but then he gets Esther back and they're like "What did I even do???"
You know how I said the songs above are a lot of them's flustered songs? Well this could be a Esther thing, or a Esther teamed up with Vil, and Lilia thing and NO ONE would be safe
Each one dressed super hella hot and cute and Crowley had to wonder why some people had vampire bites and high heart rates in the nurse's office after a small school concert (Esther would be Jesse's part, Vil would be Ariana's part, and Lilia would get Nicki's part)
Bat gets Chenya flustered sometimes over random compliments such as "What is your full name? Is it as pretty as your face?" And Chenya just fell over tail puffed and purring and giggles as his arms cover his face
Sleepy Esther does the trick too
Like sleepy Esther in need for blood is one way but just sleepy Esther as in bat comes up to someone, put their face in said person's chest and nuzzles-
As inspired by this wonderful comic from the amazing artist of plenty of ships who if they read this post confused I apologize @ryuichirou, Esther does this too. Sometimes even drop some gaming or anime reference Idia's just on the floor red in the face and hair full pink
Morning voice morning voice morning voice mornING VOICE MORNING VOICE MORNING VOICE MOR-
I know Esther is just straight up cute and knows how to tease well, but straight wholesome Esther crushes Jamil and Neige a LOT. Like, "Oh sorry for the mess I was baking some cookies and some flour spilled, guess black isn't the best for baking" while standing covered in flour giggling in the kitchen

Mary Morsten (John deserved better from the beginning)
Cora was kind of annoying
I don't have one .. yet
I think some people agree with me - Mary Winchester
I don’t have one
I don’t hate him but Vincent could be so frustrating
The character everyone else hates that I love:
I don’t have one
Deucalion turned out to be pretty good character - even as a villain
I actually really like Amanda Bobbsey - she’s so sweet. (I just don’t want her as Ace’s girlfriend)
Lucifer - He’s just misunderstood (lots of people agree to with me to)
I don’t have one
I actually wanted Finn Mikaelson to come back
The character I would have sex with:
Sherlock is hot
All the guys on teen wolf- Stiles, Derek, Scott, Isaac, Theo, Liam …..
Ace - I know he would be so sweet
Dean Winchester and Castiel are at the top of my list but if I was being real … all of them
None but only cause I think of them as eternally young
All the Mikaelson men and Marcel and Jackson but first things first Klaus
Who are your five favourite characters (In order):

Season 4 episode 18 - The Monster at the End of This Book
Season 4 episode 21 - Wizards of Apartment 13B
Season 1 episode 21 - From a Cradle to a Grave
Character you would kill off:
Molly - its not that I don’t love her but she’s not essential to the story
Baeden - Sterek needs to happen
Carson Drew - It would be interesting to see how Nancy would handle losing both of her parents
Sam and Dean should have been together in death and life
Professor Krumbs - It would parallel the Harry Potter series with Dumbledore
Marcel should have died for a short time and then resurrected - Klaus would realise how much he loved him
The character that I think the show ruined:
John Watson - He wasn’t ruined AT ALL but he was less impressed by Sherlock as the seasons went on
Kira Yukimura- She deserved better
Nick (Ned Nickerson) - only because he’s really different to his book counterpart but I don’t hate him
Crowley - He didn’t deserve to die at all
Mason - I don’t think it was in character for him to ‘cheat’ on Alex - he loved her
Hope Mikaelson - she contributed to the death of her mother
The most attractive male and female character:
Male: Shelock Female: None (I don’t remember)
Male: Derek Hale Female: Lydia Martin
Male: Ace Female: Bess Marvin
Male: Dean Winchester Female: Bella
Male: Mason Female: Alex Russo
Male: Klaus Mikaelson Female: Hayley Marshall
The character death that was the worst for me:
Sherlock’s fake death - John crying was heartbreaking
Allison Argent - she died in the arms of the man she loved and her dad was devastated
Lucy Sable - she killed herself because of extreme bullying and never got to meet her daughter
The first death of Sam - Dean’s speech made me cry soo much
No one died - that I remember
Klaus and Elijah- They died together
The character that is the most like me:
Molly - I am an awkward fangirl of Sherlock too
I don’t think I am similar to any but Id love to be as charming as Stiles and as brave as Scott and smart as Lydia
I’m not like any of the characters but I think I relate most to George- I too have many younger siblings.
Castiel and I are both awkward AF and I don’t understand enough pop culture references
Alex and I are both lazy AF
I have a temper that could rival that of Klaus
The characters that deserved better:
All of them deserve the world but I think Mycroft deserves better
Stiles and Derek deserve to be happy together
Nancy deserves better. She should be happy with Ace and not have to deal with her dad lying and the Hudsons
All of the characters deserve to be happy on Supernatural - They deserve the world, Dean , Sam and Castiel
Max should have got to keep his magic and be happy with his siblings
All of the Mikaelsons deserved to live happily - Klaus should have gotten to raise his daughter
My four least favorite characters, past or present:
Moriarty (I loved to hate him), Sargent Sally Donavan, Mary
Erica, Mr Lahey , Kali , Meredith Walker
Gil Bobbsey (he’s so manipulative), Everrett Hudosn, Ceila Hudson, Diana Marvin
Metatron, God, Samuel Campbell, Mary Winchester
Gigi, Stevie, Hugh Normous, Gorog
Esther, Mikael, Dhalia, Aurora de Martel
A character I’m indifferent about:
Anderson - he felt remorseful after thinking that Sherlock was dead
Kira - Her character was good but I dint love her
Bess - she can be a little shallow at times
Meg- her voice annoyed me sometimes but she loved Cas
Professor Krumbs could be little mean
Sometimes I loved her and other I hated her but in the end I think she is a strong female character
A ship I’ve never been able to get into/ shouldn’t have happened:
John and Mary - She wasn’t a great wife
Derek and Baeden- I didn’t see any chemistry at all
Nick and Nancy - Even they are endgame in the books, they didn’t have any chemistry on screen
Sam and Ruby - Mostly cause she was really sus from the beginning
Justin and Rosie - He was better with Juliet
Hope and Roman - He used her and that’s horrible on such a young girl
A ship I’ve never been able to get over:
Sherlock and John whether it be friends are lovers - they are supreme
Stiles and Derek- Even though its not canon its the best ship on the show
Nancy and Ace- They haven’t gotten together yet but I love the angst
Cas and Dean whether it be friends are lovers - they are supreme
Alex and Mason - those 2 were cute
Rebekah and Marcel- It took so long for them to be together but they finally got there
A cute, low-key ship:
Sherlock and Mycroft (not romantically- ew) as the best of brothers
Scott and Alison were so soft
Nick and George are cute- they are healthy and communicate really well
Sam and Elieen
Justin and Juliet - those nerdy cuties
Davina and Kol
My favourite storyline/moment:
Sherlock tells John he is alive - that was shocking
Dark Stiles - Nigutsune
Nancy finding about her true heritage and talking to Ryan and Nace
Cas saves Dean and becomes a part of the rest of the show
Alex erases herself and her brothers in the movie
All Klaus and Hope scenes
A storyline that never should have been written:
Sherlock’s long lost sister
The whole of season 6b
The death of Owen Marvin - he didn’t deserve to die.
Dean’s final death and Sam having to live without him
Alex and Justin accidentally turn Max int a girl
The death of Klaus, Elijah and Hayley in the final season just because of legacies

Call It Good
by Vorpal_Sword
When bookshop owner Esther Fell invited mysterious author AJ Crowley to give a talk on her new novel, Call It Good, she hoped for a chance to meet an author she admired and to sell some books.
When Crowley sent off a caustic response to the bookseller, she hoped to have the invitation rescinded to get her publisher off her back so she could go back to grading papers, yelling at her plants, and glaring at the rough draft of her next book.
Neither expected it to blossom into a lively correspondence, nor to find a new friend...or maybe more.

Crowley is a fallen seraph change my mind
This was my like. Galaxy brain idea I had the other day. Like clearly Aziraphale is a cherub because the cherubim were the angels who were given flaming swords and tasked with guarding Eden back in genesis so that wasn’t a hard leap to make. But then I started wondering what rank of angel Crowley was, and I figured out ,,,
The noun being used, seraph, is related to the Hebrew verb seraph means to burn utterly, and therefore is like... associated with burning and fire. (V Crowley).,, but MORE IMPORTANTLY in the Pentateuch, it’s often associated with snakes and serpents. Esther Hamori, who’s this fantastic biblical scholar, gave a talk at my college about how seraphim were originally winged serpents (deriving from earlier Near Eastern religious symbols) and in parts of Numbers and Deuteronomy, god sends seraphim / snakes to punish the Hebrews for various things. Seraphim are associated with snakes, just as CROWLEY’S original form was THE snake who later (post-fall) lures Adam and Eve to eat the apple. Later on in some of the prophetic books, seraphim are described as more humanoid,, but that doesn’t contradict this!! Crowley’s true form is both serpent AND winged man (who still has serpenty eyes!) not to mention the accounts of cherubim differ throughout the Bible too. What I’m saying is, although there are different descriptions of seraphim in the Bible, there is no question that they are associated with both burning/fire AND with serpents. (PLUS in prophetic books like Isaiah, the seraphim surround the throne and worship God, and it would make sense that Crowley was cast out for asking too many questions if this was his position. Although his other job might have been to terrorize those who didn’t obey God, and he clearly is the type to question this kinda thing too, so booted!!). Also in parts of some of the prophetic texts like Isaiah and in parts of the NT possibly seraphim are associated with demons,,,,, so like. Crowley. AND LASTLY sure sure maybe Crowley got his snakey form after he fell, but not all demons are snakes!! In fact, he’s the only snake!!! The rest are roads or flies or whatevers!!! What I’m saying is, when they fell they kept their angelic essences and Crowley was a seraph meaning he was a burning serpent , just like Aziraphale is a cherub obviously,,, that’s what he is that’s what they are there bam I am a theology student who’s home for summer break do not TEST the lengths I will go to prevent utter boredom while I wait for classes to start

Top left: Dr. Raven Sable - APPLE Dr. Sable is awaiting the dates of an inquiry into the hospitalisations of Adam Mann and Lilith Root, former ambassadors for his CHOW brand, who allege that their conditions were the direct result of their employment with him. If the allegations are upheld, it's likely that Sable will be struck off and will no longer be permitted to practice medicine. Already, sales of his CHOW lifestyle products and books are down and stocks in his company are plummeting. Sable maintains his innocence on all counts.
Top right: Newton Pulsifer - AXOLOTL Anathema Device - BLACK CAT The unexpected it-couple of the year were spotted having a cosy picnic just last week. It seems love's young dream still has its hold on this adorable pair, who obliged passing reporters with a few posed photographs before asking for privacy for the rest of their date. The two made their relationship public at the beginning of April, and so far they show no signs of tiring of one another. Pulsifer is preparing to provide commentary on the Premier League starting in August, and Device is scheduled to set off on a UK tour in October.
Centre left: Carmine Zugiber - WAR Zugiber recently returned to Celestan, just in time to report on its division into Lestern and Fernor. While the fighting has now largely died down, Carmine intends to stay on in the country to report on the political situation as it develops. While some of her reports will be published through News World Weekly, she's also established a new website of her own where she can, as she says in the introductory post, “dig deeper into the underlying factors beneath the headlines”.
Centre right: Esther James - NINJA After leading the Red Roses to Six Nations victory in March, James began work – alongside her girlfriend, Jane Adams – on setting up a charitable foundation to encourage LGBT+ youngsters to pursue their sporting dreams. Officially set to launch in June this year, Off The Pridelines will offer scholarships, help connect youngsters with teams, and run various support services, as well as a training and accreditation scheme for teams and venues to become more supportive. “A lot of gay and trans kids have a lot of fear tied up with school PE lessons, changing rooms, and sports. Many don't know where they can safely train or play,” James states in the foundation's pre-launch press pack. “Off The Pridelines aims to fix that and help them become more confident and active without having to hide who they are.”
Bottom left: Sergeant Shadwell - BELL As well as forming an unlikely duo with Marjorie Potts – the two have been spotted together in tea shops, at antiques fairs, and even admiring the properties in the window of an estate agent's – Shadwell has been making frequent trips to the town of Little Dyvyn, where work on the restoration of Godleigh Manor has recently been allowed to begin. “Lucy [Godleigh, the owner] is really keen to keep the Wytchfynder Army informed and involved in the process, and I think it's really interesting to get to see inside the walls of the place,” Shadwell told viewers in a recent YouTube video, “so I reckon I'll pop in every so often, have a look around and report anything interesting I find out. For example, that rattling noise from the first video? Turns out there are wooden window shutters inside a hollow wall, and a draft was blowing through them. Something to keep in mind in future 'haunting' cases.”
Bottom Right:
Agnes Nutter - BONFIRE “Some stories wait for no-one,” as Nutter tweeted a couple of weeks ago, and that certainly seems to have been true of her latest book. Just a month after she first mentioned that she'd begun writing a new novel, Nutter has already reported that the first draft is almost finished, and she appears to be planning for a September release date. “I'm going to dedicate this one to my new friend Marjorie,” she told Twitter, “she's been a font of fascinating anecdotes and very generous in allowing me to draw inspiration from them.”
Page 9
Top left: Pat Maputi - SQUID P-White's Chalkdust tour is in full swing, with packed crowds selling out arenas across the UK and Europe. Tickets are currently on sale for the American stretch of the tour, which should keep Pat busy until next spring. After that, Maputi plans to “sleep for about a month and then start writing a new album”, they told the Capital Herald – although they will be making time to attend the Blue Peter garden party. For now, though, it's life on the road for Maputi as they wrap up this leg of the tour.
Top centre: Aziraphale Fell - GOOSE Anthony Crowley - SNAKE The Amazing Mr. Fell's magic show has been sold out for three solid months, ever since his appearance on The Masked Singer, and even adding extra shows on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons doesn't seem to have entirely sated the public's demand. Fell himself seems to be spending most of his time off in the company of Anthony Crowley, predominantly in various London restaurant establishments. Most recently, the two were spotted enjoying a late lunch at the Ritz to celebrate the announcement that Crowley has been cast as Rafferty in the new TV adaptation of Sir Thomas Parsett's The Grasswater Affair. “Yeah, thrilled to get another go at Grasswater,” Crowley told the Capital Herald, “and with the support of Noel [Garmin, showrunner] and all the people who've helped me reach the point where this is possible.” Asked about the nature of his friendship with Fell, Crowley seemed lost for words, but Fell stepped in with a brief statement. “I'm afraid it's quite ineffable. And, if you don't mind, I believe those are our desserts.” So it seems The Masked Singer's contestants still have some mysteries for us!
Bottom left: Marjorie Potts - TEAPOT Madame Tracy has been a very busy woman – as well as returning to TV with her show Drawing Back the Veil on Saturday nights, she's also still writing for the New Aquarian and overseeing her increasingly popular Psychic Hotline. But despite all this, she's also found time to be seen at the forefront of a couple of protests, notably against proposed changes to the Freedom Pass system, alongside fellow Masked Singer contestants Agnes Nutter and Sergeant Shadwell. The latter has also been seen making frequent calls to Potts' Camden address – but she's tight-lipped on the subject. “I don't kiss and tell, dear,” she told our reporter – and perhaps you can draw your own conclusions from that.
Bottom centre: Lawrence Richmond - PONY Last week's General Election - the third in four years - saw Richmond lose the Toffley South seat he'd occupied since 2005. In a speech to his supporters immediately after the result was declared, he announced his intention to take a brief break from politics in order to spend more time with his family, and is currently holidaying with wife Victoria and son Horace in the South of France.
Right-hand column: AND THE REST... Jeremy Wensleydale While Wensleydale is currently in rehearsals for a production of Turandot at Glyndebourne this summer, he has also found time to announce that he will be spending the autumn recording an album of some of his favourite operatic and choral numbers, along with a number of famous voices. This will be Wensleydale's first full album since 2018, and is already eagerly anticipated by his many fans. Brian Thames Thames is now coming to the end of his latest tour, The British Inquisition, and has recently found time to appear on several comedy panel shows and chat shows. He's then scheduled to run an online comedy masterclass, which he'll be recording immediately after his tour ends. “I had a teacher at school who told me I had a real talent for helping people remember things. I think usually it was just because they remembered the jokes. So I could hardly pass up this opportunity - this one's for you, Miss Tyler.” Pepper Moonchild Moonchild is currently filling in as a presenter on The One Show, and recently announced that she hopes to publish a detective novel next year. “I've been getting loads of advice from my literary hero, Agnes Nutter – it's something I've always wanted to do, but my agent at the time advised against diversifying too much. My new agent has been nothing but supportive - they even put me in touch with a good literary agent, so now all I have to do is write the best book I can and see how it goes!” Adam Young and Warlock Dowling After years of rumours and speculation about their relationship, presenters Adam Young and Warlock Dowling eloped to tie the knot in New York last weekend.“We didn't tell anyone we were getting married,” Dowling said, after breaking the news on Pam and Sam AM earlier this week. “Our families were a bit surprised! But we just wanted it to be really low key, a day just for us.” “Yeah, some glares were exchanged when people realised they'd missed out on a wedding,” Young confirmed. “But we're going to plan a big party soon! Besides, we didn't do anything in the Big Apple that wasn't worth the trouble we got in for doing it.”

GRAY STATE, A
Director: Erik Nelson
In 2010 David Crowley, an Iraq veteran, aspiring filmmaker and charismatic up-and-coming voice in fringe politics, began production on his film Gray State. Set in a dystopian near-future where civil liberties are trampled by an unrestrained federal government, the film's crowd-funded trailer was enthusiastically received by the burgeoning online community of libertarians, Tea Party activists and members of the nascent alt-right.
In January 2015, Crowley was found dead with his family in their suburban Minnesota home. Their shocking deaths quickly become a cause celebre for conspiracy theorists who speculate that Crowley was assassinated by a shadowy government concerned about a film and filmmaker that was getting too close to the truth about their aims.
A Gray State combs through Crowley's archive of 13,000 photographs, hundreds of hours of home video, and exhaustive behind-the-scenes footage of Crowley's work in progress to reveal what happens when a paranoid view of the government turns inward - blurring the lines of what is real and what people want to believe.

GIRL FROM GOD'S COUNTRY: THE HISTORY OF WOMEN IN FILM AND OTHER WAR STORIES
By Karen Day
GIRL FROM GOD'S COUNTRY is the untold story of the first female independent filmmaker and action-adventure heroine, Nell Shipman (1892-1970), who left Hollywood to make her films in Idaho. An unadulterated, undiscovered adventure tale of a pioneering woman who rewrote the rules of filmmaking, and, in so doing, paved the way for independent voices-especially prominent female voices in today's film industry. Her storylines of self-reliant women overcoming physical challenges in the wilderness and often, rescuing the male lead, shattered the predictable cinematic formulas of large studio productions. Featuring rare archival footage by early pioneers, including minority filmmakers, Zora Neale Hurston and Miriam Wong, the first Chinese-American filmmaker in 1914 and present day interviews with Geena Davis and the Director of Women in Film, GIRL FROM GOD'S COUNTRY discuss how gender-inequities that Shipman and her counterparts faced perpetuate in today's film industry. Emblematic of an entire lost generation of female producers and directors in silent film, Nell Shipman's legacy has remained a buried treasure in film history for nearly 100 years.

NAPLES '44
Director: Francesco Patierno
Benedict Cumberbatch gives life to the words of British soldier Norman Lewis, whose remarkable memoir of post-World War II Naples form the basis for this haunting evocation of a ravaged land, and later a city of infinite charm. Lewis entered Naples as part of an invasion of Nazi-occupied Italy. His memories of a ravaged land and his return many years later are recalled with magnificent warmth and wit. Filmmaker Francesco Patierno combines riveting archival war footage with clips from movies set in Naples from the 1950s and 60s (featuring Marcello Mastroianni, Alan Arkin, Ernest Borgnine) to evoke a city that was as much a victim of the war as any individual, but that has come back to life with all the charisma of Vesuvius, its very own volcano.

WHAT HAPPENED TO HER
By Kristy Guevara-Flanagan
WHAT HAPPENED TO HER is a forensic exploration of our cultural obsession with images of the dead woman on screen. Interspersing found footage from films and police procedural television shows and one actor's experience of playing the part of a corpse, the film offers a meditative critique on the trope of the dead female body.
The visual narrative of the genre, one reinforced through its intense and pervasive repetition, is revealed as a highly structured pageant. The experience of physical invasion and exploitation voiced by the actor pierce the fabric of the screened fantasy. The result is recurring and magnetic film cliche laid bare. Essential viewing for Pop Culture, Women's and Cinema Studies classes.

CHET ZAR: I LIKE TO PAINT MONSTERS
Director: Mike Correll
Enter the dark and foreboding world of Chet Zar, where apocalyptic industrial landscapes are inhabited by disturbing yet beautiful monstrosities. Sometimes gruesome, periodically funny, but always thought-provoking, Zar's art is as enigmatic as it is frightening. But who is Chet Zar, and why does he like to paint monsters? These are the questions at the heart of Chet Zar: I Like to Paint Monsters.
Zar is an influential figure in the Dark Art Movement, and, given his chosen moniker "Painter of Dark," this is no surprise. Born in 1967 in San Pedro, California, Zar was well known as the family prankster. With a passion for horror films, an innate urge to create bizarre artwork, and a superhuman work ethic, Zar seemed to be made for the special effects industry. During his time with the film industry, he designed and created creatures and make-up effects for such films as Darkman, The Ring, Hellboy I & II, and Planet of the Apes. Even more well-known is his work with the band Tool, contributing to both their music videos and their on-stage theatrical animations.
Despite his success in the film industry, Zar became disenchanted by the many artistic compromises required of him. With the support of his family and horror author Clive Barker, Zar decided in early 2000 to pursue his passion for monsters by painting them. In this new arena, he has flourished and found the much-needed freedom to explore his internal world and all of the oddities created by his brush strokes.
Chet Zar: I Like to Paint Monsters is your opportunity to take a journey into the mind and life of Zar. Become acquainted with his thoughts, motivations, and reflections of the past as well as his projections of the future. Delve into his experiences in the film industry, his transition from early special effects into the world of computer animation, and, ultimately, his evolution into the distinctive artist he is today.
This unique opportunity will allow you unprecedented access into the Dark Art movement, including the studios where it is being forged and the galleries where this cataclysmic work is being shown. Take part in this dynamic endeavor to explore the life and work of Chet Zar, "Painter of Dark"!

GOLDEN GATE GIRLS
By S. Louisa Wei
In GOLDEN GATE GIRLS author and professor S. Louisa Wei tells the story of filmmaker Esther Eng, the first woman to direct Chinese-language film in the US, and the most prominent woman director in Hong Kong in the 1930's. A San Francisco native and open lesbian, her contribution to film history is sadly overlooked - her 11 feature films mostly lost. After the retirement of director Dorothy Arzner in 1943 and before Ida Lupino began directing in 1949, Eng was the only woman directing feature length films in the US.
Wei's documentary paints a fascinating picture of how Eng's career in filmmaking broke through gender and racial boundaries in Hollywood and Hong Kong, at a time when opportunities for Chinese women in the industry were few and far between. With a captivating archive of newly discovered images and interviews with those who knew her, Wei uncovers a rich chapter of film history that challenges both gender hierarchies and national narratives. Essential viewing for Cinema Studies and Asian American Studies.

ONE CUT, ONE LIFE
Director: Lucia Small and Ed Pincus
When seminal documentarian Ed Pincus, considered the father of first person non-fiction film, is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he and collaborator Lucia Small team up to make one last film, much to the chagrin of Jane, Ed's wife of 50 years. Told from two filmmakers' points of view, One Cut, One Life challenges the form of first person documentary. Ed and Lucia's unique approach to filming offers a vulnerability and intimacy rarely seen in non- fiction, questioning whether some things might be too private to be made public. The film is an intense, raw, and sometimes humorous exploration of the human condition which invites the viewer to contemplate for themselves what is important, not only at the end of life, but also during.

THANHOUSER STUDIO AND THE BIRTH OF AMERICAN CINEMA
The Thanhouser Company was a trail-blazing studio based in New Rochelle, New York. From 1910 to 1917 it released over 1,000 films that were seen by audiences around the globe.
This 53-minute documentary reconstructs the relatively unknown story of the studio and its founders, technicians, and stars as they entered the nascent motion picture industry to compete with Thomas Edison and the companies aligned with his Motion Pictures Patents Corporation (MPPC).
Ned Thanhouser, grandson of studio founders Edwin and Gertrude Thanhouser, narrates this compelling tale, recounting a saga of bold entrepreneurship, financial successes, cinematic innovations, tragic events, the launching of Hollywood careers, and the transition of the movie industry from the East Coast to the West and Hollywood.

TOKYO FIANCEE
Director: Stefan Liberski
Based on Amelie Nothomb's bestselling novel, Tokyo Fiancee is an entertaining romantic comedy that will appeal to fans of Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Amelie and Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation.
The young, pixie-like Amelie is in love with all things Japanese, which prompts her to buy a one-way ticket to Tokyo in order to completely immerse herself in Japanese culture. She offers to work as a French tutor, and soon finds herself enjoying a passionate relationship with her only student, the charming Rinri. As the two explore the joys (and awkwardness) of their first real romance and the colorful city around them, many cultural barriers fall...but some still remain.
This utterly charming romantic comedy played in the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival and seduced audiences in Europe with its whimsical style and its playful look at misunderstandings, complications and the problems that arise from cultural stereotypes. Pauline Etienne, as Amelie, is winsome and wonderful as the enthusiastic young woman on a cross-cultural adventure of the heart.

CASTING BY
Director: Tom Donahue

THROUGH A LENS DARKLY
Director: Thomas Allen Harris
The first documentary to explore the role of photography in shaping the identity, aspirations and social emergence of African Americans from slavery to the present, Through a Lens Darkly probes the recesses of American history by discovering images that have been suppressed, forgotten and lost.
Bringing to light the hidden and unknown photos shot by both professional and vernacular African American photographers, the film opens a window into lives, experiences and perspectives of black families that is absent from the traditional historical canon. These images show a much more complex and nuanced view of American culture and society and its founding ideals.

SUFFRAGETTES IN THE SILENT CINEMA
By Kay Sloan
In the days before movies could talk, silent films spoke clearly of sexual politics, and in Suffragettes in the Silent Cinema, historian and writer Kay Sloan has assembled rare and wonderful footage that opens a historic window onto how women's suffrage was represented in early American cinema.
Taking advantage of the powerful new medium, early filmmakers on both sides of the contentious issue of suffrage used film to create powerful propaganda and images about women. Suffragettes in the Silent Cinema contains clips from many films from the era, including: A Lively Affair (1912); A Busy Day (1914), which stars a young Charlie Chaplin in drag portraying a suffragist; and the pro-suffragist film, What 80 Million Women Want (1913), which includes an eloquent speech from president of the Women's Political Union, Harriet Stanton Blatch.
Silent films may have passed into history, and their representations of feminists abandoning babies or stealing bicycles to attend suffragette meetings may now seem outrageous, but the struggle for gender equality and the issues surrounding representations of women in the media remain as fascinating, engaging, and relevant as ever.

SISTERS OF THE SCREEN: AFRICAN WOMEN IN THE CINEMA

With power and nuance, Ellerson also confronts the thorny question of cultural authenticity by revisiting the legendary 1991 FESPACO (Pan-African Festival of Cinema and Television of Ouagadougou), in which diasporian women were asked to leave a meeting intended for African woman only. This film is both a valuable anthology and a fitting homage to the pioneers and new talents of African cinema.

( * &. ✧ ━ FLOWERS CAN FADE, BUT FAMILY IS FOREVER. )
Deals are something bound in blood and a pact - one gets what they want, and when the other wants to collect, the debt is paid without question. Dahlia had given much of her life, and her sanity, over to the darkest sides of magic - necromancy, expression, ritualistic sacrifice - you name the dirty deed, she did it. It wasn’t for selfish means (to begin with, at least) - it had been to save the life of her sister, Esther, and then to bless her with her first-born child. When Freya was born, Dahlia swore to Esther that when she came to 5 years of age, she would come for her.
And she did. She came for her, and she came for witches far and wide - the first born of every generation she coveted when they grew to the tender age of 5. She would teach them her ways, then she would string them along as a power source of eternal youth and immortal life.
The one caveat to her plan had been with the Halliwell witches - the most profound and most hard to find, for Halliwell magic had made a pact of its own. The Halliwell line was spoken of, but daughters were hidden from Dahlia’s grasp the moment they were born. Each mother witch cloaked her daughters, and for the Charmed Ones, Penny gained the trust of Abby Bennett, another all powerful witch to ensure her daughters stayed hidden. Abby agreed on the premise that Bonnie received the same safety blanket. The girls were cast under a spell, never to be found.
Until Paige was born. She was adopted for her hybrid nature, and was reclaimed as a Matthews. She lost the Halliwell namesake and she lost the protection as she fell under the radar of the cosmos - but she popped up right on Dahlia’s. And Dahlia came for her, leaving Paige and Freya to live a dreadful existence; siphoned for their magic with no choice but to use it for her wicked ways.
They refused to see it happen to future generations. Freya went to her family, reclaiming her role in the Mikaelson family lineage, and Paige did the same with her sisters, the Halliwells. Time has healed wounds of separation, and has forged bonds that not even she could break.
━ THE SECOND BREAK
The return of DAHLIA, once thought to be the uncontrollable lover of CROWLEY - she ran hell on Earth, while he ran… HELL itself. He had his hell hounds sniff far and wide for the return of Freya Mikaelson and Paige Matthews into existence, and when found, they caught up to the girls biting at their heels, and Dahlia delivered her twisted form of fate. And with the return of the daughter she stole simply for the bargain given to her sister, and the daughter that had become uncloaked by happenstance, Dahlia wanted a parting gift - the molding of magic with Hope Mikaelson, to ensure her continued immortality with each line of witches she came calling for.
It wasn’t until the blood of family & friends ripped apart the bond of insanity that her spell was broken. She was sent back to Hell, and into the waiting arms of Crowley, who, using this moment to solidify a soul to return to Earth, took his chance and pardoned a hell hound to release a soul...
