"Hey, buddy, you've been hogging the Supercharger® long enough," emits the carrier signal of a Tesla owner. They're right to be upset. Ever since they opened up their fancy DC fast chargers to every Tom, Dick, and Ford owner, what was once a hoity-toity elite parking lot full of American-made economy cars is now full of a bunch of weird shitbags trying to fill up their batteries.
My electric car? Pretty much the same as yours: a 1974 Plymouth Fury III, with the original smog-coughing low-compression 400-cubic-inch V8 engine replaced with nearly a metric ton of golf-cart batteries I borrowed from the local country club. Hey, they weren't using any of them in the middle of November when I cut through the fence. Not to mention it's unethical for anyone to hoard valuable resources that could be used to reduce emissions, such as I am doing (unless you count the fact that this vehicle is still, somehow, leaking 10w40 motor oil from somewhere.)
The system isn't perfect. For instance, the "fast charge" system is not particularly fast. This is because it's an old Canadian Tire 12-volt boat battery maintainer that I've riveted onto the hood, and tricked the Tesla system into talking to. As far as the computer inside it knows, it's just a really stupid SUV. Before you blame me for being a charge hog, you must also know this: it is keeping my decrepit Galaxy Note smartphone alive, which hasn't had a working battery in it since that whole airplane fire snafu. And in turn, that phone is playing an educational podcast, about climate destroyers. This, I believe, is what the Tesla owner is actually angry about, and not the fact that I have been "fast charging" for the last seventeen hours using a stolen credit card.
I ignore him. I have long ago learned that pedestrians talk a lot of shit, but are generally afraid to actually damage my car: an emergency tetanus shot, after all, is unpleasant and can cost upwards of $25. Walking back inside the donut store at which I am "parked," I ask the attendant to refill my bottomless coffee once more. Maybe I'll live here, I think. I don't want to go anywhere more than about five miles away from this charger from now on.

Watcher's Expenses
I didn't major in accounting: I took three classes and it grinded my brain to a fine powder. However, after graduating with a business admin degree, being a former eager fan of their videos, and from a cursory glance over their socials, there's a lot to consider in their spending behavior that really could start racking up costs. Some of these things we've already noticed, but there are other things I'd like to highlight, and I'll try to break it down into the different categories of accounting expenses (if I get something wrong, let me know. I was more concentrated in marketing 🤷‍♀️). I'm not going to hypothesize numbers either, as that would take out more time than I'm willing to afford-- you can assume how much everything costs. Anyways, here's my attempt at being a layman forensic accountant:
Note: All of this is assuming they're operating above board and not engaging in any illegal practices such as money laundering, tax evasion, not paying rent, etc.
Operating Expenses
Payroll: 25+ staff salaries and insurance
Overhead Expenses
CEO/founder salaries
Office space leasing or rent (In L.A, one of the most expensive cities in the US)
Utilities (water, electricity, heating, sanitation, etc.)
Insurance
Advertising Costs
Telephone & Internet service
Cloud Storage or mainframe
Office equipment (furniture, computers, printers, etc.)
Office supplies (paper, pens, printer ink, etc.)
Marketing costs (Social media marketing on Instagram, Youtube, SEO for search engines, Twitter, etc. Designing merchandise and posters, art, etc. )
Human Resources (not sure how equipped they are)
Accounting fees
Property taxes
Legal fees
Licensing fees
Website maintenance (For Watchertv.com, Watcherstuff.com, & Watcherentertainment.com)
Expenses regarding merchandising (whoever they contract or outsource for that)
Inventory costs
Potentially maintenance of company vehicles
Subsequent gas mileage for road trips
Depreciation (pertains to tangible assets like buildings and equipment)
Amortization (intangible assets such as patents and trademarks)
Overhead Travel and Entertainment Costs (I think one of the biggest culprits, evident in their videos and posts)
The travel expenses (flights, train trips, rental cars, etc. For main team and scouts)
Hotel expenses for 7-8 people at least, or potentially more
Breakfasts, lunches and dinners with the crew (whether that's fully on their dime or not, I don't know; Ryan stated they like to cover that for the most part)
Recreational activities (vacation destinations, amusement parks, sporting activities etc.)
The location fees
Extraneous Overhead costs (not sure exactly where these fall under, but another culprit, evident in videos and posts)
Paying for guest appearances
Expensive filming & recording equipment (Cameras, sound equipment, editing software subscriptions, etc.)
The overelaborate sets for Ghost files, Mystery Files, Puppet History, Podcasts etc. (Set dressing: Vintage memorabilia, antiquated tech, vintage furniture, props, etc.)
Kitchen & Cooking supplies/equipment
Office food supply; expensive food and drink purchases for videos
Novelty items or miscellaneous purchases (ex. Ghost hunting equipment, outfits, toys, etc.)
Non-Operating Expenses
These are those expenses that cannot be linked back to operating revenue. One of the most common examples of non-operating expenses is interest expense. This is because while interest is the cost of borrowing money from a creditor or a bank, they are not generating any operating income. This makes interest payments a part of non-operating expenses.
Financial Expenses
Potential loan payments, borrowing from creditors or lenders, bank loans, etc.
Variable Expenses
Hiring a large amount of freelancers, overtime expenditure, commissions, etc.
PR consultations (Not sure if they had this before the scandal)
Extraordinary Expenses
Expenses incurred outside your company’s regular business activities and during a large one-time event or transactions. For example, selling land, disposal of a significant asset, laying off of your employees, unexpected machine repairing or replacement, etc.
Accrued Expenses
When your business has incurred an expense but not yet paid for it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(If there's anything else I'm missing, please feel free to add or correct things)
To a novice or a young entrepreneur, this can be very intimidating if you don't have the education or the support to manage it properly. I know it intimidates the hell out of me and I'm still having to fill in the gaps (again, if I've mislabeled or gotten anything wrong here, please let me know). For the artistic or creative entrepreneur, it can be even harder to reconcile the extent of your creative passions with your ability to operate and scale your business at a sustainable rate. That can lead to irresponsible, selfish, and impulsive decisions that could irreparably harm your brand, which is a whole other beast of its own.
My guess at this point is that their overhead and operation expenses are woefully mismanaged; they've made way too many extraneous purchases, and that they had too much confidence in their audience of formerly 2.93 million to make up for the expenses they failed to cover.
It almost seems as if their internal logic was, "If we make more money, we can keep living the expensive lifestyle that we want and make whatever we want without anyone telling us we can't, and we want to do it NOW, sooner rather than later because we don't want wait and compromise our vision." But as you can see, the reality of fulfilling those ambitions is already compromised by the responsibility of running a business.
And I wrote this in another post here, but I'll state it again: Running a business means you need to be educated on how a business can successfully and efficiently operate. Accounting, marketing, social media marketing, public relations, production, etc; these resources and internet of things is available and at your disposal. If they had invested more time in educating themselves on those aspects and not made this decision based on artistic passion (and/or greed), they would have not gotten the response they got.
Being a graphic designer, I know the creative/passionate side of things but I also got a degree/got educated in business because I wanted to understand how to start a company and run it successfully. If they’re having trouble handling the responsibility of doing that, managing production costs, managing overhead expenses, and especially with compensating their 25+ employees, then they should hire professionals that are sympathetic to their creative interests, but have the education and experience to reign in bad decisions like these.
Anyways, thanks for coming to my TedTalk. What a shitshow this has been.

Train fact: there once was an engine, attatched to a train...
As my favourite podcast would introduce it:
What, truly, is a train?
In common vernacular, a train is anything that's on rails and, if you're still filled with childlike wonder, anything coal powered that goes choo-choo. If you ask most people, Thomas (of "the tank engine" fame) is a train.
Tumblr media
Thomas is not a train*. He is a locomotive, otherwise known as an engine. A really useful engine we adore, even. But an engine does not a train make. A train is a series of connected rail vehicles*, like coaches, wagons, etc.
Tumblr media
"Every single troublesome truck in one long train" is a train, or if you want to be pedantic, a consist. If Thomas is coupled to them and roped into their shenanigains, he becomes part of the train. This definition is usually all you need.
Tumblr media
Of course, it's not that simple. All dichotomies are false, etc.
Sometimes, a single vehicle is a train, like Daisy here:
Tumblr media
Daisy is independently powered (she has diesel engines that turn her wheels, so she doesn't need a locomotive) and carries passengers. When she's doing that, and said work is listed on the timetable/token system/computer/whatever her railway uses to track operations, she's a train. This logic can also, very occasionally, apply to any given number of locomotives doing Train Things without any cars.
Sometimes- most of the time in modern passenger services- a train has no locomotives at all.
Tumblr media
Diesel and electric multiple units, like the metro train from Splatoon, are made up of multiple independently-powered carriages, all controled by a single driver. In real life, Daisy would normally be operated as part of one of these. Multiple units are fun, because their use means that trains can split. Since all the cars are powered, some of them can be decoupled at a certain station and go off in an entirely different direction, becoming another train. Wild, right?

alright alright it's time for
DHMIS TICKLE HCS PART 2‼️
this time im doing some ones for the TV show teachers. yes this is cringe, but i do Not Care™
also im gonna use like a humanized-ish version becuz i can't really describe literal objects too well yikes 💀
💼Briefcase Man💼
• he was on screen for maybe 2 min in total, but i like him :-)
• now, he IS a lee, c'mon now.
• wiggle ur fingers on his sides and he is DEAD, he is IN THE GROUND. literal death spot.
• he's got a stupid higher-pitched laugh and i love him for it. i love this guy.
• this man is a busy busy man, so he always refuses to get into tickle fights with EVERYONE, but he will still get wrecked when he comes back from work.
• lemme just say, i know Unemployed Brandon hates his brother, but- them being brothers and getting into playful fights with each other 🥺
⚰️Coffin⚰️
• i have seen some fanart and cosplays of this guy and uhhhhhhh 😳😳
•god i wanna wreck him
• now he is definitely a ler, i cannot stress this enough
• i like to think he's a very gentle ler and uses tickling as a way to calm people down when they're thinking about their d3@th
• plus, he has a nice soft voice. he would talk to his lees and calm them down with a few gentle squeezes and pokes.
• "hush, now... it will all be ok~"
• yall im sorry i am SICK for loving him
~~i do not like todney and lily that much so im sorry but i gotta take a raincheck on this one 💀~~
🪱Warren🪱
• ABSOLUTE FUCKING DORK (affectionate)
• little wriggly worm.
• this guy is deathly ticklish. but he is a deadly tickler 👁️👁️
• this man will crumble even at the thought of being touched. if someone did poke him or squeezed a sensitive spot, his soul would leave his body.
• my man has such a stupid giddy laugh, he sounds like a crazy little squeaky toy 🥺
• but be warned.... If u do NOT listen to his podcast, he WILL manage to pin you down and absolutely wreck you.
• he can be pretty ruthless and needs to be explicitly told when to stop or have a safe word at least. he can't really tell how far he's going until they tell him to stop.
🚂 Choo Choo Man🚂
• now i know he's an old train man, but he genuinely seems like a nice man.
• he doesn't mind tickling, but he can't take much of being tickled considering...ya know, how he is in the show.
• he seems like the type of person to tickle someone as a cheer-up method, or just to be cheeky.
• he doesn't really go far though. it's mainly just some wiggling fingers every now and then and maybe some pokes to the ribs.
• he has a very nice, kinda fatherly laugh.
• when he's taking the main trio on an "imagination trip" (as i call it), i like to think that Yellow pokes or touches some of the vehicle form and it causes Choo Choo Man to chuckle a little bit.
• he just seems like a wonderful sweet old man
⚡Electracy⚡
• Electracy, my beloved.
• im gonna go ahead and say it, little electrical shocks from her fingers. enough said.
• tazing someone's sides just got taken to a whole new level.
• a mischievous ler, but a flustered lee.
• likes to sneak up on everyone and just go "BZZZT!!!" while goosing their sides or poking their underarms.
• gets what she deserves almost 10x worse.
• she has a very squealy laugh omgg.
• when she gets tickled, be sure not to go too hard on her, or she will literally blow a fuse and likely die.
• OOOOH WHEN SHE GETS TICKLED, WHAT IF SHE EMITS A FEW ELECTRIC SPARKS OR SMETHING??
• ugh she's so cute 🥺 help

Roger Atkins - the founder of the consultancy, Electric Vehicles Outlook Ltd, and host of the Electric and Eclectic podcast - had spent the previous five years travelling the globe as something of an electric vehicle evangelist.  His talk at the University of Bath back in 2020, by contrast, was titled:
Mass adoption of electric vehicles would be a big mistake.
"It went down badly," he admits to LinkedIn News Europe three years on. "Someone even accused me of taking money from oil companies." But Atkins, who still runs Electric Vehicles Outlook and hosts his podcast, stands by it.
If we really want to save the planet, the solution isn't manufacturing 70 million EVs, it is re-evaluating whether we need to drive altogether.  "We cannot make 70m electric vehicles a year –  each of them with a 60kw battery, with the current mining capability that exists on the planet. If we try to do that, we're going to have to dig up half of Indonesia and mine the ocean floor," he said.
EV batteries use substantial amounts of minerals including copper, cobalt, nickel, rare earth and lithium. Since 2015, EVs and battery storage have surpassed consumer electronics to become the largest consumer of lithium, making up 30% of demand. By 2040, the International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that demand for lithium could be 13 times higher.
(...) Environmentalists warn of soil degradation and damage to local ecosystems, as well as water shortages: 2.2m litres of water is needed to produce one tonne of lithium. (...)
For Atkins, that means EVs cannot be the future of transport. Or at least, not the future of individual transport. Instead, the world needs to (...) ... yes, stop (people) driving their own cars.
Creating EVs instead of petrol vehicles is only replacing one bad habit with another, Atkins says. "Of course it is going to p*ss people off. Of course people like to drive. But we live on a resource constrained planet," he says. "We need a paradigm shift."
(Another english expert) pointed out that as many as 50% of car journeys were used to cover distances of under 5km and could be replaced by active transportation, such as e-scooters. (...)
via (1) Why EVs may not save the planet | LinkedIn
L'ipocrisia sta svanendo, non regge al vero fact check:
è sempre stato chiaro che le auto elettriche, e tutte le fnti Energetiche Rinnovabili, rischiano di fare più danni ambientali al Pianeta che dar benefici, senza citare l'evidente danno allo sviluppo economico;
è sempre stato altrettanto chiaro che, anche volendo, non è fisicamente possibile sostituire anche solo la metà del parco circolante con EVs (perché? Ma perché "le risorse del Pianeta sono limitate", qual contrappasso micidiale);

Tumblr media
**HERE BE SPOILERS: Skip ahead to the fan art/podcast to avoid spoilers
Reactions As I Read: ● great cover ● Spider-Man is on a tear to find Dr. Octopus ● can't find him, so he goes to check on Aunt May ● nullifier moved to Tony Stark's factory, where apparently the military decided it can be best protected ● Col. Jameson is briefing a room about it, but inside is a spy for Doc Ock ● they haven't even boarded up that wall yet? ● Doc Ock attacks nullifier convoy by leaping out of a manhole ● Harry doesn't like 3 a.m. phone calls (who does?)
Tumblr media
● Spidey and Ock battle it out at Stark Enterprises ● Ock uses nullifier on Spidey and Spidey loses his memories ● 👏👏👏
Synopsis: After Doctor Octopus caused his Aunt May to pass out, Spider-Man is now out for blood. He tears his way into one of the hideouts that Octopus set up when he was operating as he Mater Planner. He finds Octavius' minions, but not his foe. As Spider-Man dispatches the thugs, Doctor Octopus appears on a monitor and mocks Spider-Man. He tells the wall-crawler that he will never catch him and that he is about to stage the crime of the century before terminating communication. Furious, Spider-Man wrecks the equipment in the headquarters before departing. He decides to check the Master Planner's underwater headquarters but discovers that it is still flooded, another dead end. With no other leads, Spider-Man decides to return home and check on Aunt May.
Meanwhile, John Jameson is having a secret meeting to discuss the security procautions being taken to ensure the transport of the nullifier isn't interrupted. When the officials ask about Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus trying to steal it, John assures them that Spider-Man is not the enemy, despite what his father's newspaper says about the wall-crawler. As he goes over the transport route, he is unaware that one of Otto's minions is in the room, having gained access to the meeting through false credentials. By this time, Peter Parker has arrived at the home that his Aunt May shares with Anna Watson. There he is happy to see that she is doing better, although she is troubled about the damage done to the house. When Peter blames it on Doctor Octopus, his aunt still thinks that Octavius is innocent and only reacted that way due to Spider-Man attacking him. He is then visited by both Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy who have come to see how Peter's aunt is doing, and to look at the damage done to the house. Peter worries that the insurance will not be able to cover the repair work.
Back at his hideout, Doctor Octopus is given the route the military will be taking the nullifier through the city. Using a fake repair truck, Doctor Octopus and his minions speed off to steal the nullifier. As the escorted military truck is heading along its route, it happens upon some work being done on electrical cables below the street. As they slow down to pass the caution ropes, Doctor Octopus uses one of his tentacles to attack from the manhole he is hiding in. With his attack covered by smoke grenades, Doctor Octopus incapacitates all the vehicles and manages to steal the nullifier and escape. Otto orders his men to head for a munitions factory owned by Tony Stark, the first place he wants to test out the nullifier. Soon, J. Jonah Jameson arrives on the scene with Joe Robertson and Ned Leeds. Jonah pumps his son to find out if Spider-Man was involved, but there is no evidence to this fact. Jameson then tries to call Peter Parker to come down and take photos. His phone call is answered by Harry Osborn, who is upset at being woken up at 3 AM and angrily hangs up.
When Spider-Man happens upon the scene, he sees that he was too late to stop Doctor Octopus. However, knowing his long time foe, he correctly deduces that Otto would use the Nullifier on the Stark Industries factory. Unafraid of interference from Iron Man, Doctor Octopus uses the Nullifier to incapacitate the guards that are at the front gates. He then increases the power of the device, rendering the factory inert. It's then that Spider-Man arrives on the scene, and begins fighting with Octavius. When the wall-crawler begins gaining the upper hand, Doctor Octopus uses the Nullifier on his foe. The device stuns Spider-Man, and when he recovers, Doctor Octopus is surprised to see that his enemy has been stricken by amnesia. Deciding to take advantage of this new development, Doctor Octopus convinces the disorientated hero that they are allies. No longer remembering who he is, the confused hero decides to believe Otto, believing that he has no other choice.

3, 4 and 5 for the s1y ask game :)
3. What surprised you most about this season?
So, I had a strong feeling and expectation that RCG would put their full pussy into this season (if it was me, and i was doing a podcast with my creative besties frequently revisting our batshit insane canon, i know i would too lol), but i'm still a little blown away with just how much they did with s16 creatively - and balancing that with keeping it true to its original form/pleasing more casual enjoyers. So much characterisation and subtext and growth AND social commentary, all while being gross-out and ridiculous. 10/10
Basically, I was surprised at how well my expectations were met, because that usually never happens in any aspect of my life xD
4. Did any of your predictions come true?
Yes! Before s16 started, I wrote a fic based on two seconds of Inflates from the original trailer, and it stood up pretty well. Also see answer to Q1 - I really, really expected RCG to 'mature/deepen' charlie a little bit, as well as further macdennis and bi/queer dennis more boldly this season, for a number of reasons (s14 + s15 buildup, podcast, etc... NOT just wishful thinking!) - and boooy did they deliver.
Also knew they'd have 'Dennis at the beach/tortured by electric vehicle', but I guess anyone who enjoys the podcast could have predicted that one, right?!
5. Most rewatched episode?
Frank vs. Russia (watched a couple times on my own and a couple of times with my partner, too, who's also a Sunny fan)
Longer term, this will very likely be overtaken by Dennis Takes a Mental Health Day (sooo much to unpack and it hasn't even been a week yet!)
Thank you so much! <3 <3

It’s been nice to see the growing popularity of electric vehicles these last few years, but EVs need batteries and batteries don’t last forever. In fact, the first generation of EV batteries are already dying, and there's an absolute dead battery typhoon coming. Lithium battery recycling is improving, but it's still far from where it needs to be. Luckily there's another option that's pretty simple. Just take those used batteries and repurpose them for less demanding large scale energy storage. That's exactly what’s happening at a recently opened 25 MWh grid scale energy storage system in California. But if these batteries are “dead,” how are they able to bring new life to renewable energy storage?

Fetlar
Wednesday 26th July
Tumblr media
I spent five days on Fetlar in the end, the van not moving from its wonderful setting just above he beach, and in that time probably met most of the islanders. Each day I wandered past the cafe, which acts as a shop, post office, and information centre also, and sat inside for a coffee and a chat with whoever was around. The owners are typical of islanders, from the south of England, in their late fifties, and taken to Fetlar as an escape from the noise, pollution and lack of space in England. Only five of the sixty seven residents are from Shetland since birth. The English have brought with them a high level of organisation. Despite the remoteness of their residences things happen efficiently; the food deliveries to the shop from the mainland, the postal service, the regular meetings at the community hall. The arrival of strangers, or rather tourists, is noticed by all. It’s not possible to creep in undetected.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The island is well-supported in terms of infrastructure, probably too much so. For its regular postal service, the island has its own red Royal Mail electric van, which four islanders work in shifts with deliveries, and get paid to do so. The ferry, which is free for island residents, calls at least four times a day, which seems quite unnecessary, as most times when I was there it was empty, but the crew come for their lunch at the cafe. Garbage is collected by a truck that comes from the mainland once each week. A mobile library, hairdresser, and various other services call in for a few hours fortnightly. A doctor or nurse will visit when requested, and a dentist calls in monthly.
In that sense, it’s not as remote as other mainland communities.
Though I knew nobody by name, everyone knew me, the guy with the red dog and the porthole van on the beach.

Though the first days I was there were fine, the second half of my stay on Fetlar the weather turned wild. There were occasional showers, but the wind howled and came from the north. Rather than gusty, it was a steady thirty five mile per hour gale, and as it was from the north it took the temperatures down to single figures, with an added chill factor. These are the most unwelcome conditions for outdoor activity, and even indoor activity is with an unsettling rocking and a constant reverberation.

On the windy days Roja and I headed out in the morning as usual, but no further than the couple of miles to the cafe and back, then settled into an afternoon of reading, podcasts, and even completing the VAT return for work..
A few locals walked their dogs on the beach, and over the days Roja got to know them all. There weren’t many visitors, but two young women came over to say hello one afternoon, sheltering from the wind behind my van. They were students from UCL, a woman of Sudanese descent, and a Nepalese lady. The former was a geography student hoping to be a lecturer, hence the reason for the visit. They were on Shetland for two weeks, and were tough enough not to even mention the weather.

We were one of just two vehicles on the 3:30 pm ferry to Unst earlier today, the wind had at long last dropped, and the sun broke through. I drove to Baltasound, Unst’s equivalent of a metropolis, and stocked up on water, and from the supermarket. At the leisure centre I paid £1.50 for my weekly shave and shower, and the guy told me, at 5 pm, the showers would need to run a bit as I was the first person in today. Unst has as many visitors in Fest week (last week), a few hundred, as it does in the other 9 weeks of summer put together.

I drove to Uyeasound to park-up, at the far south west of the island. I had hoped to visit here, but it had quite a few people around the marina last week, so I had postponed it. From that howling three day northerly wind to a completely calm night - it was appreciated.
