I don’t think I’ll do any other auary prompts, but this one seemed good for a chapter I have written for an au where the Rise boys go through the fear fungus from the 2012 series!

Crisis

Mikey was on his plastron, laying on the floor. He had a paper in front of him and different colored pencils splayed around. He kicks his feet up and down as he draws. It had been too long since his last one. It felt good to stretch out his artistic muscles. He can’t really remember why he it took him so long to do this. He keeps his attention to the paper as one of his brothers walks in.

“Mikey.”

“Hey Donnie, what’s up?”

He continues drawing, not looking up at him just yet.

“Mikey!”

He jumps in surprise at his yelling and Donnie finally gets his attention.

They’re no longer in his room.

They’re in the turtle tank.

Emergency lights are flashing and metallic screeching fills his ears.

He remembers what this is.

“No! How did we get back here!?”

“Mikey! Pay attention! We have to find a way out!”

Donnie grips Mikey’s shoulders.

Mikey shakes. He knows there isn’t one. There wasn’t back then. There wouldn’t be now.

“D-Donnie, there’s-“

The walls start getting crushed around them.

Donnie throws himself over Mikey, holding him tight. Mikey closes his eyes, waiting for it all to go away, for it to be okay.

When he opens his eyes again, he’s outside the tank. He sighs in relief until he sees Leo kneeling down next to Donnie while Casey stands over them.

This didn’t happen before.

Mikey rushes over and sees that Leo is trying to perform CPR. He’s crying as Casey stares down in shock.

“Donnie!! No! No! Please! Wake up! You can’t do this to me!” Leo sobs as he keeps trying.

Even Mikey with his lack of medical knowledge knows that Donnie wasn’t going to wake up. He was….his body….it…was broken. Shattered. Squished. He wants to throw up. He wants to scream. He wants to cry.

For some reason he can’t do any of that.

Casey puts a hand on Leo’s shoulder, causing him to stop. Mikey can see the emotions flashing in his eyes. It’s changed from desperation to devastation to…something scary. Leo stands up and looks at Mikey.

“He just had to get stuck with you.”

“Wh-What….?”

Leo takes a step towards him.

“If it had been anyone else, they could have actually done something! They wouldn’t have been a scared little baby hiding in their shell!”

Mikey’s breathing gets choppy.

“No! Th-There was nothing I could-!”

“You always have to be the one getting protected! He would have made it if he wasn’t saving you!”

Mikey steps back.

“I-I’m sorry-“

“You’re sorry!? Now you’re sorry!? You never care about how much we have to worry about you! You’re nothing but a burden! And now you got Donnie killed!”

Mikey grips his head in grief and terror, finally screaming and sobbing.

He sits up in bed, still doing the same. He can’t stop shaking. His breathing is out of control.

He hears frenzied, hurried, loud stomps coming towards his train car. Raph slams his train car door open.

“Mikey! What’s wrong!?”

Mikey can’t help but keep sobbing, he’s in no condition to even try to answer.

Raph opens up his arms, allowing Mikey the option to hug but not going in for one right away in case it would only make it worse. Mikey basically jumps into his arms and clings to him. Raph hugs him tight, rubbing his shell comfortingly.

“Raph is here Mikey. Don’t worry.”

Mikey nearly chokes he gasps so fast.

“D-Donnie.”

Raph starts to understand and cradles Mikey close. He walks him over to one of the other train cars and gingerly walks in. Mikey can see that Leo and Donnie are sleeping next to each other in Raph’s bed. Mikey nearly falls out of Raph’s arms trying to get to him.

“Hey, be careful big man, calm down a second.” Raph whispers.

Raph gently places Mikey between the twins. Mikey sniffles and nuzzles his head into the crook of Donnie’s neck. It was easy to feel his pulse and hear him breathe this way.

Leo and Donnie both drape their arms over Mikey in their sleep. Mikey sighs slightly, calming down now that he knows for sure Donnie is safe and Leo doesn’t hate him.

Even subconsciously they care.

Raph crawls into bed and wraps himself around everyone, pulling them even closer.

“W-Wait….if everyone was asleep here….h-how did you hear me when they couldn’t?” Mikey asks quietly.

Raph glances away.

“….Raph….are you moving people in their sleep again? Were you coming to take me too?”

Raph taps his fingers together.

Mikey can’t help but smile tiredly. He may not be sure that his brothers will never be in danger again, but they’d never hate him like he saw in that dream.

“We’ll talk about that in the morning.” He closes his eyes.

He hears Raph sigh in relief. They’re all squished together a little more and Mikey couldn’t be happier about it. He falls asleep quickly.

In the morning, Mikey wakes up to Donnie playing games on his Switch. It seemed like all he could do since he was still very largely trapped by Raph and partially by Mikey himself.

“Can I watch?”

“I can’t stop you in the slightest.”

Mikey smiles and looks down at the screen.

Donnie tilts the switch slightly so Mikey can see better.

They stay like that for a while in silence.

“Hey….Donnie?”

“Yes, ‘Angelo?”

“I….I’m sorry.”

Donnie pauses for a moment then continues playing.

“For helping trap me in this bed?”

“That you had to protect me so much during all the Kraang stuff.”

Donnie pauses the game this time.

“Excuse me, had to? Are you assuming I was forced to?”

“I couldn’t get my portal powers working-“

“They were sealed off and when you got them back you threw an entire building at the krang. Not to mention you ripped through space and time to get Leo back. I believe it makes up any transgressions you believe happened.”

Mikey smiles.

“Thanks, Donnie.”

“You’re welcome. Now help me decorate my island.”

Mikey continues watching him play until Leo wakes up.

He yawns and stretches as much as he can.

“Mmmm….did Raph kidnap us from our beds again?”

“That would seem to be the case, yes.” Donnie answers.

“Not me….I had a nightmare.”

Leo and Donnie both look at him.

“What? A nightmare? I thought you were getting less of those now.”

“I thought I was too….but it was just one Leo. I’m okay.”

“Are you sure? Do you want me to sleep in your room tonight?”

Mikey thinks for a moment.

“Yeah. That might help.”

Leo smiles and pats his head.

“Another sleepover it is.”

Mikey was pretty sure he was being babied right now, but after your entire family is almost killed twice you sort of get over it.

Besides, it helped everyone else to let them do it. Especially Leo. He was the one who wouldn’t let Mikey out of his sight the most.

Leo looks over at Raph next and pushes his face.

“Time to get up bro.”

Raph grumbles and finally releases everyone as he wakes up.

The rest of them are able to sit up now.

“I’m going to make breakfast-“

“Incorrect. I believe today father is making breakfast. No straining your arms yet.”

Mikey sighs.

He almost forgot about it.

“Okay Donnie. I won’t touch a single spatula, I promise.”

“Excellent.”

He and Mikey leave the bed.

Leo tries to follow but almost falls off it.

Several hands reach out to catch him, but Raph is the one who does.

“Alright, get up here.”

Leo let’s Raph pick him up.

“Vamonos! To the kitchen!”

He points.

Raph chuckles and carries him out.

Mikey and Donnie follow them.

They all eat breakfast together and the rest of the day makes the nightmare start to fade from Mikey’s memory. He was never alone the whole time, even being joined for his physical therapy time.

They all needed it anyways.

Still, the night came a little too soon for his liking. It brought the feelings back to his mind. He really didn’t want another nightmare like the last one. Not something so real.

He’s taken out of those thoughts as Leo leans his arm on his shoulder.

“Ready to get a good night’s sleep?”

Mikey smiles softly.

“You know it!”

He helps Leo to his room and into his hammock. It takes some time to join him because of balancing issues, but once he finally flops onto it, they laugh at the struggle of it all.

The two of them talk about everything and nothing. How Mikey’s been feeling, how Splinter left egg shells in the breakfast this morning, what the plans are for tomorrow.

As Leo chatters on, Mikey’s eyes droop. Leo softly rubs circles into his little brother’s shell, enticing him more into sleep.

His eyes fully close and he drifts off to sleep.

He wasn’t even granted a peaceful start this time.

Black tendrils dig into his skin and crawl up around his face. He tries to avoid looking at the weird mass of teeth next to him.

“Gross, gross gross gross, Donnie-!” His face drops the moment he looks at the state he’s in.

The tendrils have spread far and Donnie’s head was drooped down. His eyes were gray and lifeless. There was no movement coming from him in the slightest.

Mikey panics and look towards where Leo and Raph had been fighting.

Leo was in a similar state to Donnie but for a different reason. He was pierced clean through the plastron with Raph’s Kraangified arm.

Raph had Leo’s weapon imbedded into his chest.

Mikey screams out as he’s enveloped by the tendrils.

He shoots straight up and breathes heavily.

His eyes quickly move to the occupied side of the hammock.

Leo is breathing steadily, curled up close to him. Mikey smiles softly and lays back down, presses his cheek against his brother’s. His eyes close for a second just to take in the fact that he’s still around. The moment that he realizes something is wrong when he feels his skin become wet.

Opening his eyes, it’s obvious that Leo is crying in his sleep. There’s a slight shaking coming from him too. Mikey immediately starts shaking him awake.

“Leo, wake up!”

He opens his eyes that dart around the room before finally landing on Mikey.

“It’s okay, you’re safe.” He takes his hand and squeezes it.

Leo breathes shakily and stares hard until he glances behind him. That’s when he grabs Mikey and tosses both of them off the hammock. He lands on the floor on his shell, shouting in pain slightly from his previous injuries.

“Leo!“

“W-We have get out of here, now!” His hand scrambles for something.

“It wasn’t real! We’re both okay!”

“No, you don’t get it! Something’s wrong! And I’m not letting it hurt you!” He grabs a ruler that was on the ground and turns it into his sword.

“Leo! You can’t! You promised!”

“You’re more important!” He opens a portal and sends them through.

They wind up in Donnie’s lab, scaring the crap out of the soft shell who was already heavily on guard since he wasn’t supposed to be staying up this late.

“Nardo!? You said you wouldn’t use a portal again until we all agreed you could!”

“I-I had to! Take Mikey, there’s something in his room!” Leo moves him away and tries to open another portal.

Donnie lunges forward and takes the sword from him.

“Mikey, what’s happening!?”

“I don’t know! We both had nightmares and now he’s freaking out!”

“Give it back! We can’t leave that thing in there!” Leo tries to stand and grab at the sword.

“I’ll take care of it! Just no more portals!” Donnie holds it away.

“No! I can’t let you!” He reaches up more but immediately stops at the sharp pain coming from his shell.

Leo falls over back onto the floor. Having used up too much energy and worsened old injuries, he was out cold again.

The sword in Donnie’s hand turns back into a ruler that he tosses aside in favor of picking Leo up.

“Let’s get him to med bay.”

They rush to the train car holding all the supplies they had basically emptied not too long ago.

Both of them hated the fact that Leo was back in it again so soon. Despite every insistence from him, they knew he had probably developed a fear of the type of room he used to love.

Donnie lays him in the bed and sets up a monitor for his vitals. They seemed steady at the moment so he just makes sure that all his injuries are taken care of.

“Is….is he going to be okay….?” Mikey frowns as he gets closer to the bed.

“Of course. This is nothing. This is fixable. As long as he…doesn’t go anywhere we can’t….I can fix it.” He grips the metal bed railing tightly.

“I’m going to go wake up Raph and tell him what happened.” He turns to leave.

“Wait!”

Mikey stop and looks at him.

“Take my battle shell with you, just in case.” He takes it off, holds it out to him.

Mikey’s heart starts beating fast at thinking about his first nightmare.

“It’s okay, I’ll be fine!”

“I wasn’t asking.” He shoves it into his arms with an extremely stern look.

“O-Oh….okay. I’ll be right back.”

Donnie nods and goes back to keeping an eye on Leo.

Mikey leaves, gripping the shell tightly as he rushes to Raph’s train car. He finds him wrapped around the teddy bears he had made to look like them.

It was a big relief that they had survived when Shredder ruined their first home and when the Kraang got into their current one.

“Raph! Raaaaaph!! Wake up!”

He groggily opens his eyes and sits up, holding the bears still as he yawns.

“Mmmm….oh, Mikey, another nightmare? C’mere.” He holds the bears with one hand and reaches for him with the other.

“No! Yes, but that’s not what’s happening! Leo thought he saw something in my room-“

“There’s something in your room!? Raph’s got it!” He drops the bears and runs to Mikey’s room.

He quickly runs after him.

“No! Raph! Stop it!”

They eventually both reach the room where Raph starts looking all over.

“Whatever you are, come out! Leave my brothers alone!”

“Raph! You didn’t hear me right! There’s nothing-!”

“Found it!”

“What….?” He looks up at where Raph’s line of sight is.

In the corner of the train car, there’s a blue, glowing creature with small tendrils coming out of it.

Maddy’s Favorite TMNT Films Ranked!

It’s my birthday!!! I’m officially 25, which makes me shudder cuz I’m in my quarter life crisis now. REGARDLESS! Since it’s the day of my birth I thought it right to do something special!!

And that’s rank ALL the TMNT movies from my least favorite to my all-time faves!

I’m honored you all enjoyed my silly episode ranking, it was tons of fun to do and I loved writing it!! Chatting about these turtles has been nothing but fun and brings me tons of comfort, so I’m happy to do one of these again! I just pray my opinions aren’t too controversial 🤣🤣

Ten movies, all about four teenage mutant ninja turtles. One nerd to review these. This’ll be fun!!

Some criteria!

These are just my thoughts on the films! I’m not the end all, be all of what movie is THE BEST or THE WORST. If you like a movie that may have ranked lower, that’s awesome!! Let’s all share our opinions on them and have a fun time!

Straight to DVD films are included in this lineup!

The live concerts and We Wish You a Turtles Christmas are not allowed cuz those are fever dreams 🤣

I’ll be doing a classic ranking system from the bottom all the way to the top!

SPOILERS BEWARE! … AGAIN 🤣🤣 and some slight swearing, I may have gotten excited while writing this 🤣🤣🤣

Let’s begin!

10: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 ( 1993 )

My Score: 2 out of 10.

This movie is a fever dream and I can’t be convinced otherwise 🤣

I mean, can you blame me? This was made in a last ditch effort to get Turtlemania back in the mainstream just as it began to die down… and this was a BAD way to win fans back.

From the terrible comedy to the worst TMNT villain in the franchise to grace the silver screen in the form of Walker. Don’t even get me started on the god awful turtle costumes this time around because… dear lord, they’re nightmare fuel. If I saw these guys in an alley I’d run for the hills! They’re downright grotesque to look at! All the characters are either whiny, boring, or unlikable. I have nothing but respect to the voice actors of Leonardo and Michelangelo for sticking it through all three of the classic movies, despite the terrible script they had to work with in this installment. I also feel awful for Elias Koteas, who got the short end of the hockey stick— see what I did there? I’ll see myself out 😂— after ALL the grief Karen’s made him deal with after the first movie, getting booted from the sequel as a result of their nagging, only to be brought back to this mess. And what was with the ancestor-but-maybe-not-but-wait-he-might-be guy that Koteas was also playing??? His character made ZERO sense!

And that Splinter puppet???? THAT THING IS UGLY.

I would never watch this one again unless it was for memes. “What did you expect, maybe the Addams family?!”

No, but I expected a better script than this BS.

9: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows ( 2016 )

My Score: 3.4 out of 10

This may be a tighter script and a slightly more coherent plot, but DAMN, I can’t bare to watch this one for more than ten minutes on a good day.

First of all, Leonardo in this one is downright terrible and a bad leader. I’m STUNNED he never gets reprimanded by his Sensei for his nasty treatment of his brothers— telling Donnie to LIE TO HIS FAMILY ABOUT THE OOZE????? That’s out of character! Belittling Raph with that whole ‘There’s only one vote that counts’ line???? And putting the blame on him and Mikey for the police station fiasco?! He comes off as a bully!!

The plot is somewhat stronger than the first but it’s just taking elements from the Marvel movies, such as the hole in the sky like The Avengers. Shoving needless fan service in our faces as if to say ‘SEE??? WE LEARNED FROM THE FIRST ONE, WE HEARD YOU, THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED RIGHT?! LOOK! THERE’S A FROZEN NEUTRINO ON KRANG’S SHIP!’ Sorry, but this ain’t the Sonic movie, it isn’t going to work unless you actually respect the material you’re adapting! Like with the Sonic movie! They fixed Sonic’s look because of fan demand, and they actually respected their advise! Here though? It’s like they’re just throwing it in our faces just to spite us. It’s not coming from a place of love. Casey Jones in this film is a joke— what a waste to this iconic character to turn him from a badass vigilante into a whining baby vying for April’s affection. Bebop and Rocksteady are annoying as hell. Stockman sucks. Karai is a nothing sandwich. Shredder barely does ANYTHING. And Krang??? EW. Just… ew.

But for all my ranting this far, I do have some positives from this one— April actually gets to have a playful personality which is fun! Once again the turtles are the highlight. Their designs this time around are great!! Less accessories but it allows for more room to show the guys’ fighting abilities and the accessories they do have is there as an added bonus, not to clutter their look! I feel like this was Donnie and Raph’s movie more than anything! The amount of attention they get in this film alone shows that there were writers who loved these guys and treated them with respect! That scene where Donnie single-handedly TOOK CONTROL OF A CRASHING AIRPLANE USING HIS BO AS THE STEERING?! THAT WAS SICK!!! And Raph once again is an absolute BEAST in battle! The motion capture artists are phenomenal as the titular man characters, they all had great chemistry together! I just feel awful that they had to be treated so badly behind the scenes…

It’s not a great movie, and even with the few redeeming factors it still makes me irritated.

8: Turtles Forever ( 2009 )

My Score: 3.5 out of 10

PLEASE DON’T HATE ME 🤣

Remember what I said about us not getting a proper crossover until Ciro Nieli adapted the 1987 turtles into the show?

Yeeeeeah. This one was NOT it. And this was supposed to be the 25th anniversary movie???

For some reason, ALL the ‘03 turtles are so bitter and mean to the 87 counterparts. They’re putting them down at every instance where combat or character bonding is involved, which is ridiculous. ‘03 Donnie WOULD NEVER be so nonchalant about meeting another version of himself— and why does he constantly put down ‘87 Donatello for his inventions??? They should be hyping each other up and talking techno babble! Why is Splinter the only likable person in the whole movie?! Why did they change April and Casey’s designs to look like random anime characters?! ( NOTE: I know they changed them to match the 2007 film at the time, I’m just being funny )

I already can’t stand the ‘03 version of Shredder but DAMN, they’re making him out to be the most amazing version of him out there. It’s like the writers behind this movie are ragging ‘87 Shredder— WHY DID THEY MAKE HIM A HAPLESS IDIOT?! They gave ‘87 Shredder so much disrespect! In the original cartoon, while he could be used for laughs, he was also taken seriously and seen as a very real threat. He was no slouch whatsoever either, he easily took the turtles out in one episode in season two! The only ones who actually stayed ‘in character’ were Bebop and Rocksteady! It’s like this movie is tearing down what made the OG series fun and iconic to build the ‘03 turtles up to be THE greatest team. I just wanted these two teams to be working together and learning from one another in their own ways! Like, imagine a scene where ‘87 Raphael teaches ‘03 Raph to rip the fourth wall! Or ‘03 Mike and ‘87 Mikey showing each other their own nunchuck tricks! You know? ACTUAL BONDING????

And yes, the OG voice actors were swapped cuz of union disputes by 4Kids. The only one that sounds kind of like his original voice was the guy playing ‘87 Raph. Otherwise? They all sound pretty bad. It actually made me cringe the first time I got around to hearing them, I did NOT get used to them.

I understand there’s an extended cut out there that addresses some of the issues that were cut for time, but unfortunately we don’t have that version to go off of, so I’m left with this.

All I have to say is, THANK YOU CIRO NIELI!!!

7: TMNT ( 2007 )

My Score: 6 out of 10

No this was not intentional 🤣🤣🤣

We’re nearing the halfway point and we’ve reached the TMNT movie I saw as a kid! Fun fact, this movie came out after my birthday and I BEGGED my dad to take me to see it. So as a birthday treat he took me and my brother to see it opening day! Not only was this my introduction to the turtles, but it made eight year old me curious about the series!

Is it as good as I remember?

Well… no, but it’s not bad!

I’ll admit, the plot is kinda slapdash and nonsensical. Like… I know, I know, this is a franchise about teenage turtles who learn ninjutsu and fight a man dressed like a cheese grater. But even for me this story is out there. Why do the Stone Generals have no personality or defining traits other than the weapons they use? Why is Winters so generic? The concept of an immortal general searching for thousands of years for the lost monsters to atone for his terrible mistakes is cool, just not for this franchise if that makes sense. Also this movie doesn’t seem to wanna give Donnie or Mikey any agency; they’re mainly in the background doing comedic stuff or off on the wayside with nothing to do whilst Leo and Raph are pushed into the spotlight. For a story centered around bringing a fractured family back together we don’t get to see how Mikey or Donnie have been handling Leo’s absence during his time spent in Costa Rica.

Yet through this muddy plot we have some of the most iconic/ memorable moments in this franchise! Raph being the Nightwatcher— which is coming back in the comics soon!, Donnie’s tech support meme, THE LEO VS RAPH FIGHT ON THE ROOFTOPS WHICH STILL LOOKS FREAKIN AMAZING TO THIS DAY???? Seriously, Imagi Studios had such an incredible future ahead of them, it’s a shame they went bankrupt! Some of my favorite actions moments in this movie are towards the end where the family is in Winters’ compound and we’re treated to a one-take camera pan of them brawling through a slew of Foot ninja!

And the voice cast here is great!!! Nolan North as Raph??? James Arnold Taylor as Leo?! CHRIS EVANS AS CASEY?! AND MOTHER FING MAKO, AKA UNCLE IROH HIMSELF AS SPLINTER?! It’s a great ensemble!!! Everyone here clearly gave it their all, they should all be praised for this!!

You can tell there was a ton of attention to detail put into this one, and that the people behind it had tons of fun animating it. We could have had a really cool film series on our hands had the studio not fallen under. Otherwise, I still enjoy watching this purely for nostalgia purposes!

6: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Secret of the Ooze ( 1991 )

My Score: 6.9 out of 10

For a movie made right after the first to cash in on the Turtlemania high, I gotta say, this one’s really fun!

It’s not without flaws though; Karen’s gotta ruin the fun once again and the tone was dragged WAAAAAAY down to take away the darker themes from the previous film cuz they thought children couldn’t handle any action that was too violent. Karen’s also took Mikey’s nunchucks away and got rid of Casey. The story is goofier and doesn’t allow for any space for these characters to breathe or emote past being lighthearted and funny. April isn’t as down to earth since Judith Hoag was replaced, Casey Jones is sorely missed in this story, Tokka and Razar are just dumb, bumbling monsters made to replace Bebop and Rocksteady. Professor Perry is obviously supposed to be Stockman, and the Shredder doesn’t truly engage with the turtles until the end of the movie. The Super Shredder was just a missed opportunity! The turtles don’t get to use their weapons at all except for Donnie cuz he uses a giant stick.

The positives outweigh all of that though! As always the turtles are fun and lovable, the new voice for Donnie is awesome, we get some great comedy spliced throughout the film, the Go Ninja dance sequence is so memorable that to this day people are still bringing it up! And I’d be remiss if I didn’t bring up the introduction to Keno, played by Ernie Ryes Jr., the stunt double of Donatello in the first film!! Keno is a GREAT addition to this cast! I adored his quips and the action stunts he pulls off are thrilling! I honestly think he’d be an awesome character to keep bringing back in new projects! COUGH MUTANT MATHEM SHOW COUGH. I wish he was in more stuff cuz he really is a fun addition to the roster! I even had the opportunity to meet Ernie Ryes Jr. this last summer with a friend of mine, and he was SO nice and SO chill! He was so excited to meet fans who were talking about TMNT, and when I told him how much the franchise meant to me, he gave me a hug and took a pic with me!!! He was such a great guy!!!

I can always go back to this one and smile throughout the movie! Also, GO NINJA GO NINJA GO—

ONTO THE TOP FIVE!! From here on out these are the movies I can rewatch over and over and never grow tired of viewing them!! So let’s get this party started!!

5: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ( 2014 ) ⭐️

Say what you will, but I love the first movie more than the sequel 🤣

I love this movie, it’s a ton of fun and the action is truly a spectacle! I feel like I had more fun with this first movie than it’s sequel because, firstly, the plot is quick and engaging. Sure, there are some issues, but I can forgive it because…

This movie IS JUST FUN.

I know this is gonna be a controversial opinion but I really like the first movie over the sequel! I really liked April! I’m of the opinion that Megan Fox can be a decent actress if she’s given the right script, and in this movie, despite the fact she might not have the most compelling arc, she’s still a good interpretation of the spunky reporter we all love! Will Arnet is also pretty funny as Vern! I still think Sacks should have been Stockman instead of Shredder. Making that swap has no integral change to the plot and it would have made more sense. Like… why not keep the mad scientist character as the already established mad scientist? The origin change inspired by the IDW comics may be jarring but I didn’t mind it! It’s just a different iteration of their upbringing but it still remains true to the turtles themselves!

The motion capture technology for the turtles is jaw dropping. I mean it. It feels like Megan Fox is making direct eye contact with these giant mutants, they’re interacting with the scene and characters, when they engage people in combat you FEEL those blows and believe they’re actually beating the snot out of these thugs.

But by far, the turtles are the biggest highlight of this movie. They’re tons of fun to watch and their banter and chemistry is great!

Do they have tons of needless accessories? Yeah

Do they look cluttered? Yeah

But does that take from their personality? NO

Donnie IS A CINNAROLL AND MUST BE CHERISHED. I feel his own techy gadgets and gear adds to his introverted personality! He’s such a lovable dork and I really liked him in this one! Jeremy Howard is a perfect fit to voice/ act for him, nobody can convince me otherwise. PLUS THAT ONE MOMENT WHERE HE SMASHES HIS BO INTO A FOOT GOON’S KNEECAP????

Raph IS A FREAKIN BEAST! GOD-DAYUM, this turtle is easily the strongest incarnation of the hothead to date! Tossing shipping containers like it’s nothing, casually breaking through steel fans to create a blockade against the Foot! I might be in the minority but Alan Richardson is THE first voice I think of when I’m told to say which Raph I prefer!

Mikey is still a bit iffy for me cuz of the weird innuendo jokes, but I can see why people like him! I still think him flying around on a hoverboard skateboard is dope as hell though. And Leo is likable in this one!! He’s actually a responsible older brother who’s devoted to his family and not a selfish jerk keeping secrets from his brothers 🤣🤣😂

Plus, the emotional parts of this one hit harder than the sequel for me, especially on my first viewing. The Splinter Vs Shredder fight is intense and really REALLY well choreographed, very inventive and exciting with all the stunts Splinter pulls off. The moment where Leo and Mikey both scream for their father, the blink and you miss it line of Leo calling Splinter ‘dad’— which was improvised by Leo’s motion capture actor— and the gut-wrenching aftermath of the battle where they’re led away in chains believing their father is dead… that may have gotten me misty eyed.

The snow chase? Badass.

The climax? Pretty damn good.

That elevator scene that was entirely off script and improvised by the motion capture actors? BEST SCENE IN THE ENTIRE FILM.

Is this the best? No, but it didn’t have to be! I love this one! And I can happily say it’s the most fun I’ve had with the Bayverse turtles 🤣

4: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ( 1990 ) ⭐️

My Score: 8.9 out of 10

This is, without question, one of the most stunning displays of practical effects and costume work in any film made at this time. Henson’s Creature Workshop truly outdid themselves in this feature with their work on the turtles.

The turtles look like living, breathing creatures. They actually look as though they’re real! There a small flaws, yes, but I can look past it because the amount of detail and effort that went into these things is incredible!! The stunt actors brought the action to a whole new level in those suits! You can tell every ounce of passion was put into this, and everyone had so much faith in seeing that these turtles lifelike! Brian Tochi, Josh Pais, Corey Feldman and Robbie Rist were perfectly cast as the four mutant turtles!!!

Judith Hoag plays a phenomenal April! Fun, spunky, witty and clever! I met her last summer too and she was truly wonderful!! Such a kind woman who listened to my story and connected with me!

Whoever hired Elias Koteas as Casey needs an eternal raise. He looks like he popped out of the comic and came to life. He was perfect!!

Splinter in this movie IS A GREAT FATHER AND AN AWESOME PARENT.

Shredder gives me chills he’s so intimidating.

When this movie came out everyone went bonkers with Turtlemania fever. The critics slept on this one because this was Eastman and Laird’s comics brought to reality. Steve Barron of Take on Me fame delivered on presenting the dark and gritty nature of the turtle’s lives and how brutal the Foot truly is.

I gotta highlight that score for this film because John DuPrez??? You’re a GENIUS.

My only issue is Danny. He was just obnoxious and selfish the whole way through until the climax. Like… hope you have a couple thousand dollars left to give April instead of the 20 you stole, kid, YOU GOT HER HOUSE BURNED DOWN.

THAT FIGHT SCENE ON THE ROOFTOP IS DOPE AND FUCKING AMAZING. AND CASEY CASUALLY TURNING SHREDDER INTO CRUSHED TUNA???? WE LOVE A BASED CASEY.

I don’t know what else to say other than this is the epitome of a true 90’s classic.

3: Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie ( 2022 ) 🥉

My Score: 9 out of 10

Holy. Shit.

This movie LOOKS FUCKING GORGEOUS. DISNEY WHO????? DREAMWORKS WHO???

Before I got into the fandom I found this movie through the trailer and Black Nerd Comedy’s discussion about it. On a day I was bored I turned this on.

AND THIS MADE MY JAW DROP.

I had ZERO clue this movie looked as visually pleasing as it did. I adore this film and the animation behind it. It’s so clean, so slick, the pacing is just right, the action alone made the hair on my arms stand up! I love watching the animatics and storyboards behind the action scenes of this film just to study it and marvel at how freakin talented these artists and animators are!!!!

The voice cast knocked it out of the ballpark! Ben Schwartz in particular deserves massive praise for his performance as Leo, such a dynamic range of emotion to balance out the ‘comedy guy’ to ground him in this serious situation. Plus, Sora from Kingdom Hearts is in this as Casey Jr! 🤣🤣 his character arc having to change from the carefree prankster to the leader who had to step up and save his family is a thrilling plot point we see unfold!

I loved the characters!! I loved the score!!! I loved how this film wasn’t afraid to be genuinely SCARY with the Krang.

The angst???? The whump???? THE CLIMACTIC SHOWDOWN???? CHEFS KISS!!

WHY DID I NOT DISCOVER RISE SOONER?!

I can’t help but gush over this movie of because this is top notch quality!!! I have nothing to say, this one is OP!

2: Batman Vs The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ( 2019 ) 🥈

My Score: 9.8 out of 10

FUCKING.

LOVE.

THIS CROSSOVER.

Literally one of the best crossover films of all time. I adore this Hellboy art style for the film, I adore the opening intro where it’s all German-deco-Impressionism/ noir influenced and it’s all dark and covered in shadow minus the blips of color to symbolize the characters.

I adore the handling of the martial arts versus the brutal, grounded combat style of Batman! I love how the animators literally used the backgrounds to their advantage and made them pieces for the characters to use as weapons!

I adore how the turtles have such natural banter and chemistry with one another! I love how Batgirl and Donnie bond!!! I adore how everyone plays off of each other! The dialogue is fun and full of charm! I loved watching Batman and Shredder going completely off the rails on each other!

I love Donnie!!

I love Mikey!!

I love Batgirl!!

I love the subtle reference to Pink Floyd!!!

I LOVE ALL THE REFERENCES TO ALL THE DIFFERENT ITERATIONS OF TMNT HISTORY BECAUSE YOU KNOW THESE WRITERS/ STORYBOARDERS/ DIRECTORS CARED ABOUT THIS.

My only complaint? The Batman villains are underutilized, their mutant designs are bland as hell and Joker and Harley suck. But I’ve always hated those two so that’s not an issue with the film itself.

That pizza party at the end MAKES this for me. I got the comics this was adapted from, those are SOOOOO GOOD!

Nothing but high praise here. All my heart goes to this one. And this used to be my champion, until this movie blew it out of the water…

1: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem ( 2023 ) 👑

My Score: 12 out of 10

This. THIS is the quintessential TMNT film experience.

Call me biased. Call me boring. Call me basic, but THIS MOVIE SAVED ME THIS PAST SUMMER.

The teaser came out the week of my birthday last year. I couldn’t stop smiling when we got that first taste of what the animation was going to be like. It was like a feast for the eyes!

I trained myself not to watch ANYTHING past that first trailer. I had to ignore leaks and spoilers for MONTHS, I ever ignored the posters of the characters themselves because I wanted to be genuinely surprised by who was in the movie. It was like I was prepping for Endgame all over again. I got the figures to prepare for the movie, I bought early fan screening tickets in advance, I took my best friend with me to share the moment cuz there was no way I was NOT gonna have my bestie there too. I even custom tie dyed a shirt with Leo and Donnie’s colors and decked myself out in TMNT gear the day of the premier. I went into that movie bouncing in my seat.

And I left that movie smiling with joy and laughing and crying. And then I proceeded to see it THREE MORE TIMES IN THEATERS. That’s an honor only reserved for the movies that have moved me enough to cry.

The plot is simple but the twists and turns they take leaves you surprised and on the edge! The soundtracks are STELLAR, both the score and the music they used. There are plenty of Easter eggs to find on a rewatch. The jokes ALWAYS LAND! I love these weird cringy turtles and their memes 🤣🤣

The turtles are precious babies that must be protected! Leo is awkward but lovable. Donnie is a Cinnaroll. Raph is hilarious and probably needs a stress toy to calm his anger. Mikey is a joy to watch and he’s relatable! April is fun as hell, MUTANT MAYHEM SPLINTER IS A GREAT DAD AND IN MY TOP THREE BEST RAT DADS LIST. Superfly is HELLA scary, the iconic mutants they included are fun, MONDO GECKO MY BABY BOY LOOK AT HIM GO!

This voice cast is going to become iconic. Everyone from Ice Cube to Jackie Chan to Paul Rudd to the very first actual teen cast of the titular characters!!! Nicolas Cantu, Micah Abbey, Brady Noon and Sharon Brown Jr delivered excellent performances and brought these guys to life!

THIS ANIMATION IS SO UNIQUE AND COOL!!! It looks like EVERY medium was explored and used— everything from 3D to sketchy hand drawn, erratic wild outlining to claymation?! DUDE THIS IS LITERALLY SPIDERVERSE BUT FOR TMNT!!!

The MOTHER FUCKING NO DIGGITY MONTAGE ARE YOU KIDDING ME—

It was all I wanted. It was everything I wanted it to be and then some. After the shit I had to go through in 2023, it felt like a giant breath of fresh air to enjoy something I was so excited for, if only just for an hour and a half. I went straight home and showed my older sister, who was recovering at home at the time during one of her treatments, all the merch I got from the fan event and rattling off about the movie. She laughed and said ‘I’m glad you had a great time!’

Not gonna lie, I was apprehensive when I heard Seth Rogan was the one helming this project cuz his track record of movies hasn’t been the most… friendly to sit through. But, with this? I tip my hat to him! He delivered for the fans, big time.

I loved this film. It’s my favorite TMNT movie of all time. I’m totally stoked for the new series coming out this summer. All I have left to say?

A Tale of Spirits by unorthodoxx -They gang touches sometimes they shouldn’t and somehow end up separated widely in the universe of AtLA with the whole Gaang, they however think that the turtles are spirits and it’s a whole adventurous journey (quite a long and amazing read)

unmaking by corvidown -it’s post movie and everything is swell, right up until Donnie starts having a little too realistic nightmares from Casey’s timeline. (Includes 2+ Donatello’s)

At My Worst by teainthesnow -the older apocalyptic version of Leo gets trapped in Leo who has yet to stop the Kraang, absolutely beautiful story hhhh (finished?)

The Eldest Brother by dEBB987 -AMAZING FUCKING RAPH FIC HHHHHH our big bro Raph gets accidentally sent through a portal on a mission into the 12 tmnt universe. Here he struggles with his past traumas while trying to heal whatever 12 has going on in their ‘family’ 10/10 cried cant wait for more.

Like Father Like Son by eternalglitch -oooh gosh Leo gets kidnapped on a pizzarun fort he family by Draxum and the scientist seems to have found one of Donnies inventions that will help him make Leo his perfect little soldier. (Cried hard absolutely destroyed me, it does get better)

Minor interference by bambiraptorx -it’s a fun little fic and the opposite of the above, where Leo and the fam takes up the offer of having Draxum train them, it’s only to absolutely to mess with him tho lol

Never better by less_depresso_more_expresso -amazing Raph fic where she’s raised by good father Draxum, her siblings however are unaware and the younger brothers desperately try to get their sister back from what they assume is an abusive father (it’s surprising lighthearted with triggerwarnings when needed and generally fun to read, feels in character too and so far 10/10)

Ws Donnie and reader addresses their keens on idea of breeding whenever they are in the act. Yet, when they aren't, the never initiate the conversation of conceiving a neonate in a probable future, ever.

my silly question is, will they ever seek the crave of an offspring? Will they ever talk about it? Is Donnie even okay with the responsibility of a child or is he just keen of the idea of a plump lump round belly on his mate?

Everyone's collective brains get pushed more towards babies with each consecutive chapter of Weak Spot and I think that's just adorable💖

So to clarify, Donnie started with an active and known breeding kink. He's pretty open about it, like it chapter 10 he mentions it was his intention to ask right off the bat if he could cum inside. Then, in chapter 12, reader mentions this kink point blank and, besides letting his arousal confirm it, he also tells reader he can accommodate if they don't share the same feelings about it. Reader says it's fine, but by chapter 24 they admit they've succumbed and also now have a breeding kink.

Also, i want you to know that all this explanation is meant to be /gen and I don't think any of yours or anyone else's questions are silly! I'm happy to clear up any confusion!

So all the above is to say they both have a breeding kink. Now a kink, defined as a non-conventional sexual practice/concept/fantasy, is not necessarily synonymous with what you want in real life. Something can turn you on as a concept, cheating for example, but that doesn't mean you want to be cheated on in real life!

This is currently where Donnie and reader are except they haven't talked about it.

As you said, all their baby conversation has been relegated to pillow talk.

Do they want kids? That's a conversation they will absolutely have. Your question of whether Donnie actually wants kids or if it's just his kink is exactly something I'm going to explore. He's so borderline feral in most things, I can't wait to delve into the crisis of self where he'll need to differentiate between what he he really wants from emotional, logic, and animal instincts because I'm sure they all have something different to say!

Not Allowed to Die

Mike ran as fast as he could, his thirteen-year-old brother held tightly to his chest. One hand was under his brother, supporting him, while the other wrapped around his shell and held his head to Mikey’s shoulder, keeping it from bouncing too much as the older turtle ran.

Donnie didn’t return the grasp at all.

In fact, his brother was limp and unresponsive, and Mike was terrified. He should never have let Donnie go into that warehouse alone. He should have insisted that they stay together and not split up! It was his fault that Donnie was hurt, and it was tearing him up inside. Mike was smarter than this! He was twenty-two years older than his baby brother! He had far more experience than Donnie had now! He should have seen the warning signs and not trusted his teenaged brother’s judgement on this!

Donnie’s arm slipped from where Mike had it thrown across his shoulder, and Mike could feel the slick blood trail it left behind. He doubled his speed.

“Hang in there, Donnie,” he said. “You’re not allowed to die, alright? You’re not allowed to die!”

But Mike was afraid that if he didn’t get him help soon, that Donnie would die. There had been a bomb in that building, and Donnie had headed straight for it, trying to disarm it. Mike should have seen that coming. Donnie always went straight for the tech. Even as Don, that’s what he had done. But what Donnie hadn’t realized was that, even though there was a countdown on this bomb, there was also a remote control—and one of the Foot had it.

Mike had screamed out a warning to Donnie just before the Foot Ninja had set it off. If the explosion hadn’t of killed the Foot Ninja, Mike would have killed the man himself. Instead, he had dug himself out of debris and gone desperately searching for his little brother.

He’d found him, and for a second fear and coursed through him at the idea that he might be dead. Fortunately, that was quickly pushed to the side when he saw his little brother breathing. But when he also saw how heavily he was bleeding, the panic had started again.

Donnie’s side had taken the brunt of the explosion, leaving that side of him bloodied and burned. Mike had seen shrapnel in there, too, but he counted his lucky starts that none of it seemed big. His shoulder hadn’t been sitting right, though, and he had a large headwound that had been bleeding. Mike had quickly looked him over, determining that his neck seemed fine, and that his shell was still in one piece, before scooping his baby brother up. He had heard movement around them, and he had known that there were more Foot around. He’d needed to move fast if he was to get Donnie to safety. He’d pressed the emergency button on his shell cell, and then he had just run.

The Foot had been chasing him since, and Mike had needed to fight, even while holding Donnie. He dodged and evaded as much as he could, though. His goal was not to defeat the Foot, but to get Donnie home.

“Hang on, hang on, hang on,” Mike said as he ran. “You’re not allowed to die, alright? You’re not allowed to die. You’re not allowed to die!”

He got no response from his little brother.

He kept running, taking as many alleyways as possible and trying to avoid the Foot. He heard something coming down the street, heading for him, and he doubled his speed, looking for an alley way to travel down that wouldn’t have a dead end in it. The Foot had been trailing him. If they were sending back up this way, Mike wasn’t about to let them catch up.

“Mikey! Mikey for the love of—Stop Running!”

Mike skidded to a stop, turning to look. It wasn’t just any vehicle that had been trailing him up this deserted road, it had been their vehicle, the Battle Shell 2.0. And Raph was leaning out the window yelling at him.

Mike ran straight for it without a moment’s hesitation.

The side door was already opening, and Mike leapt in, making sure to keep all of Donnie’s limbs safe as he did. The door rolled closed behind him, and the Battle Shell 2.0 took off down the road. But Mike didn’t care as he carefully laid his baby brother down on the floor of their truck.

“Mikey, what happened?” Raph asked, even as he gathered supplies.

In their younger years, Mike might have taken that as an insult, a questioning of his skills. Now he knew that his brothers didn’t doubt his skills at all, but that the question was asking just what it was. Mike shook his head.

“A bomb. They planted a bomb and blew it early,” he said. “I—I tried to make sure his neck and shell were alright, but—”

“Never mind all that,” Raph said. “Help me stop the bleeding on his head while I take a look at his side. Leo!” he called out to the front of the truck where, presumably, Leo was driving. “Step on it—and take us straight to Leatherhead’s!”

“Right!” Leo said, and the truck moved faster.

“Keep pressure, Mike,” Raph said as he looked over their baby brother.

“He—he can’t die,” Mike blurted out. “Raph, he can’t die, he’s not allowed to die!”

“I ain’t about to let him die, Mike,” Raph growled out. “So, stop yammering and keep that pressure steady!”

Mike nodded, taking short breaths and trying to breathe deeper. He was on the edge of panic, and he knew it. But Donnie was just thirteen. He was still a kid! Mike knew that they had all been just a little older, fifteen, when they had first gone topside. They’d felt so grown. But two years older than Donnie was now didn’t feel grown at all. It felt like that was still childhood, and all Mike could think of was how it wasn’t fair. Donnie was a child! He shouldn’t be laying on the floor of a truck he modified, bleeding everywhere while enemies chased them. He should be staying up playing video games, reading for the fun of it, and building things.

“You’re not allowed to die,” he said, softly but forcefully to Donnie. Raph heard him, but aside from a glance, said nothing.

The trip to Leatherhead’s wasn’t far, especially since the Battle Shell 2.0 could easily fit through the sewer tunnels, in case of an emergency just like this one. Leo must have called ahead, because Leatherhead was already there, ready and waiting. Raph lifted Donnie off the floor as soon as they were stopped, and he, LH, and the Fugitoid took off to the infirmary with Donnie.

And then Mike was left there all alone, with only his brother’s blood for company.

It took Mike a moment to realize that Leo was beside him, and he looked up at him. “I…” Mike started. “…he’s not allowed to die.”

“I know, Mike,” Leo said. “Come on, let’s get you cleaned up.”

Mike nodded, and let Leo lead him away.

Mike sort of lost track of time after that. Leo took him to the bathroom, where he helped Mike to get Donnie’s blood off of him, as well as to patch up any injuries he had gotten. Then he took Mike to Leatherhead’s living room, sat him on a couch, wrapped a blanket around him, and headed towards the kitchen. He came back with something warm to drink and pushed it into Mike’s hand. Mike took it, and then just waited.

Master Splinter arrived only a few minutes later, and not long afterwards, so did April and Casey and their kids. Mike didn’t know how long they all sat there. It could have been thirty minutes. It could have been half the day. All he knew was that he needed to know that Donnie was going to be okay.

“You’re not allowed to die, Donnie. You’re not allowed to die! That’s almost happened too many times already, when you were Don, and we’ve lost Don, too. We gained you, though. And you? You’re NOT ALLOWED TO DIE!”

Finally, Raph came out, looking tired, but alright. He looked up at the group that had gathered. “He’ll be alright,” he said without preamble.

Tension left the room, and Mike felt himself go limp on the couch cushions.

“He’s gotta recover,” Raph said. “But the shrapnel wasn’t bad, and the burns aren’t too serious. His shoulder’s busted at the moment, but LH and the Professor have got that in place and immobilized. And his head wound looked worse than it was. He did lose a lot of blood, but he’ll be alright in time.”

Mike could have cried.

“Mike.”

Mike nearly sat up at attention.

“Boy genius is awake, and he wants to see you,” Raph said. “So, get your mopey shell in there.”

Mike glanced over at Leo and Splinter, but they both nodded, and he didn’t waste any more time.

At some point, they had managed to set up a small almost-hospital in a room here at LH’s. It had come in handy a time or two before, and they’d managed to get some real things, like an actual hospital bed. That’s where Donnie was now, his mask and pads removed, arm immobilized, and bandages wrapped around him. He was chattering quietly to the professor, but as soon as he saw Mike, he lit up.

“Mikey!” he said.

Mike walked closer, coming up next to the bed. “Hey, squirt. How are you feeling?”

“Raph told me that I couldn’t say ‘fine’,” Donnie said, “or anything close to it, so I guess I’m feeling kinda bad,” he said with a wince. “But are you alright?”

Mike blinked. “Me? Bud, I’m not the one that almost got blown up. I’m fine.”

Donnie winced at that, and looked down at his hand, fiddling with the bed sheet. The professor, watching the two of them, politely excused himself, leaving the two turtles functionally alone. Mike sat down on the edge of the bed.

“Hey—Donnie? What’s going through that brain if yours?” he said. “Talk to big bro Mike.”

Don bit his lip, and then looked up at Mike, guilt on his face. “I’m sorry!” he blurted out.

Mike blinked. “Sorry?” he said, confused. “Donnie, what are you sorry about?

“I didn’t listen,” he said. “I thought I could do it. I thought that, if I could defuse that bomb, then maybe I could go on missions with the three of you. Like… like you used to do with the old me.” His head sank down a little. “I know you miss him. I thought that maybe if I could do that, then things might be sort of normal again.”

Mike blinked. “Oh, buddy…”

He stood up, and moved closer to the head of the bed, so he could sit next to Donnie. Donnie shifted over to accommodate him, and Mikey gently wrapped an arm around his little brother, carefully pulling him into his side.

“Alright, Donnie, I want you to listen to me good,” he said. “Yeah, I miss Don. I miss old you. I miss my big brother that I could go crawl in bed with after monster movie marathons and giving him crazy ideas for inventions. I miss the memories and the jokes and all of the stuff we shared together. I miss him. But,” he bopped Donnie lightly on the nose. “That doesn’t mean I want him instead of you.”

Donnie blinked at him, but didn’t say anything, so Mike continued. “You’re Donatello Splinterson, the same as he was, but you’re not Don. You’ve lived different lives, had different experiences, and you’re different people. And I love both of you. I love Don and I love Donnie, and I wouldn’t trade one for the other. Besides, Don wouldn’t want that. He wouldn’t want the him that’s you to stop existing.”

He put a kiss on the top of Donnie’s head, being careful of the injuries there. “When you’re ready for patrol, then I know that we’ll gladly take you with us. But not because we want you there to replace Don, but because we want you, Donnie, with us. We love you. Not because of who you used to be, but because of who you are, okay? So don’t go around trying to replace Don. Grow up into who you are. That’s all we want.”

Donnie looked at Mike with wide eyes, his chin trembling a little. He looked away, and used his good arm to wipe at his eyes. Mike obligingly pretended that he couldn’t see the tears in them.

“O-okay,” Donnie finally said. “Okay. But… I really do want to go on patrol with all of you,” he said.

Mike chuckled a bit. “I know you do. But I think tonight proves that you’re not quite ready for that yet.”

“Yeah,” Donnie agreed with a sheepish smile.

Mike stayed with Donnie for a little bit longer, and then he left, knowing Master Splinter wanted to come in and spend time with his youngest son. Mike collapsed back on the couch as soon as he could, staring at the ceiling.

“You good, Mike?” Leo asked.

Mike nodded. “Yeah. Yeah, I will be. Where are April and Casey and their crew?”

“Gone to get us food,” Leo said. “No one really feels like cooking.”

“And no one wants you to cook, bro,” Mike shot back.

“…How’s Donnie?” Leo asked softly.

Mike took a moment to consider. “He’ll be okay. He just needs to figure out who he is, apart from Don.” He paused. “He wants to go on patrol with us.”

“Not for a while, not after tonight,” Leo said. “He’s not ready yet.”

“Yeah, I think he gets that,” Mike said. “But maybe that’s something to work towards.”

“I’ll talk it over with Sensei,” Leo said.

Raph called out to Leo from the kitchen, and Leo left to see what he needed. Mike stayed put, thinking over the night’s events. Donnie had been hurt, badly. But he was alright. He was going to be okay. And they had some things to work through with him. But that was alright with Mike. As long as his baby brother was alive to work through them, that was alright with Mike. They’d talk it through, they’d train more, and in a couple of years, maybe Donnie could go on patrol with them.

But not until he was ready. Not until they knew he was ready. Because if there was one thing that Mike was certain of, after seeing it happen once, it was that Donnie was not allowed to die. None of them would let it happen, and that was a promise.

Synopsis: The Kraang invasion has commenced and the turtles + April, Casey and Y/n have gotten out of New York. Leonardo is in critical condition and his brothers are in a crisis. It's up to y/n to comfort them.

Notes: Y/n could either be read as a mutant or human (I didn't put any Specifics in). This hasn’t been proof read and the ending probs sucks ass 🤷‍♀️

Rage. That was all he felt. That familiar emotion constantly consuming him from the inside out. He knew he needed to keep it under wraps, but he found it so difficult especially since he could never find a constant healthy way to manage it. He was constantly at battle with his thoughts and emotions and tried to bury them deep within, he couldn’t never seem weak in front of anybody no matter how close his relation was with them.

Emotion was weakness in his eyes. That’s why he always hid his insecurities and sadness behind a mask of wrath and only let out his emotions in the safety of his room and the company of his little pet tortoise Spike...and now you.

Everyone in the van fell silent as they left New York. Y/n and Mikey stared out of the back window of the vehicle, wanting to catch one last glimps of their old home. "So, what's the plan now?" Y/n asked - breaking the silence.

April turned around in her seat, "I have an old family holiday home up state. Barely anybody is around there a-and we can stay there for as long as we need."

Y/n nodded and sighed. Before they tore their gaze away from the window, they gave Mikey a sympathetic look and a quick hug in order to reassure the youngest. They then sat between Donatello and Raphael, who were keeping close watch of their unconscious elder sibling, Y/n reached their hand out and placed it on top of Leo's, "He'll make it...he always does."

"Yeah but what if he doesn't?" Donnie replied quietly, "I-If we had just set up a second base and got out of the city while we had the chance...None if this would've happened. It's all my fault."

Y/n turned their gaze towards the purple masked turtle with a deep sadness and concern presenting. They gave Leo a small kiss on the forehead and sat back in their seat in order to comfort Donnie. They placed their head on his shoulder, "Don't think like that Donnie. Never, think like that. Both plans would have had both positive and negative outcomes, once we recooperate and figure a way to stop this inva-"

"Donnie's right though that was too close a call if you ask me. For all we know Leo could die even before we reach this stupid 'holiday home' and the Kraang could multiply in numbers and grow stronger than ever before! It'll become impossible to stop them...we're all screwed matless the fucking outcome."

Raph was beginning to grow impatient - his emotions had broken free and swirled up from deep within his subconscious. He was growing vulnerable further and further by the second, he was dreading the moment be could no longer contain it. Suddenly Raph felt a warm presence beside him, he looked to his left and noticed y/n now giving him a side hug, "I know it's hard to not think of the worst case scenario Raph, especially when one has already happened, but please try and keep it together. Your brothers need you...so do I."

Raph always relied on himself. Some may say it was for self gain, out of selfishness, but the majority of the time it was simply because he never knew how to ask or he always found it safer and less bothersome to depend on himself. Comfort wasn't exactly something that he was given a lot (the same with his younger and elder brothers) so it was still a strange phenomena to experience. Having someone like y/n to fill that empty void, which was created by such negligence of interactions, was a strange sensation but a pleasant one none the less. "We'll all get through this," y/n whispered whilst slighty tightening the hug.

That was his breaking point.

He readjusted himself and hugged his s/o back, making sure that his brothers couldn't see the tears that were spilling down his cheeks.

"What if we don't? What if Leo never wakes up..."

Y/n broke the hug and looked deeply into Raph's eyes, they placed both of their hands on his cheeks and wiped away the stray tears. "He'll wake up. Leo would never give up and leave his family alone."

Y/n placed their forehead on his and for the rest of the ride everyone was silent. It wasn't long till the journey came to an end and they made it up to April's family farm and immediately aided Leonardo. From then on, Raphael refused to move away from his elder brothers side until he awoke and all everyone could do was accept his wishes, wait in great eagerness and adjust to the new lifestyle that the countryside brought…away from monster and aliens yet double the chaos.

Damn what gave it away

I actually do really like all the duo combos - one of the things I like about Rise is the way the characters and their dynamics are written that means each duo has their own unique flavor. When I’m just watching the show, a lot of my favorite episodes and moments are actually PB&J-centric - Donnie and Mikey have a way of hyping each other up and indulging each other’s silliness in a way no other pairing with either of them has. But each duo has great potential for character building and conflict and shenanigans.

The reason why I write so much about disaster twins is because both of them hit on the part of my character analysis brain that produces the most dopamine lol

I actually had kind of a crisis midway through writing Corrupted Upgrade because I started to feel like it should have been a Brains and Brawn fic instead. Uh, I guess spoilers now, and I’m also rambling so let’s reconvene after a cut…

ANYWAY when I had the initial idea, it was always with the plan that Leo was going to go in after Donnie. A lot of my fics start when I get a sort of single idea in my head, and for CU it was Leo making the crack about how he’s not afraid of beach balls, then going in and realizing it’s not beach balls and now he has to put the clues together. And from that idea sprang the whole outline of how the fic would play out.

Partway through though, I thought, well, shouldn’t Raph be the one coming after him? Raph is the leader - in Donnie’s nightmare, Raph is the one who made the final decision to throw Donnie out. So Raph should be the one pulling him back in. And that made a lot of sense really!

…Unfortunately I had committed the fic for a big bang which meant I had a deadline that was at that point rapidly approaching and there were artists trying to draw fanart for it and if I had changed the whole plan then that would have upended everything. And it’s not like I can just find/replace Leo for Raph and change up some dialogue, they would have had completely different approaches to the situation.

So yeah I didn’t do that. And a part of me is sad because I think it would have made a great Brains and Brawn fic! And there aren’t enough of those in the world.

So I guess this is my confession that there exists an alternate version of Corrupted Upgrade in my head where Raph goes after him instead.

I’m not actually sure what Raph’s solution would be, though. I didn’t get that far in thinking about it. Maybe he just kidnaps him idk lol. Like “you are coming back right now young man we are TALKING about this”

We know there were supposed to be two more turtles, right? I don’t know the turtle lore but people have names: Venus and Jennika!

They would be their own characters, like everyone else in Rise so thankfully I don’t have to know much turle lore for this xD

FIRST. The ages! Wanna the girls to be the oldest sisters cause that would be funny xD And give Raph yet another existential crisis! He is not a leader anymore and he is not the oldest sibling anymore xD Mikey - 14, Donnie and Leo - 15, Raph - 16, Venus - 17, Jennika - 18.

Now, we know like 99% where is one of the turtles.

I wonder if Big Mama knows. There is a chance she doesn’t since she didn’t try once to pull anything with Lou. She probably found a turtle baby and took her in thinking she is a yokai and raised as her assistent. I hc her to be Venus.

The next own is my top favourite headcanon I will NEVER let go until canon says otherwise xD

JESSICA! Sounds suspiciously like Jennika xD And as far as I remember she is the only not-background girl who doesn’t have lipstick and in general her mouth is more wide, turtle-like. Now that makes me wonder what does this mean for her character and her not giving anything away to Leo. She described Leo’s look like a costume. Is she not aware or lying? I don’t have much xD I would give Jennika illusions because she has to look like a human SOMEHOW. Would be cool for her to discover it on her own early on. I am curious how she ended up on the surface. Personal hc for now: she was found by a human and was took in and because she looked like a turtle she couldn’t get out and was home schooled by her overworked mom. That made her determined to learn how to fend for herself. She unlocked her mystic abilities, got into Lou Jitsu movies(everyone has to have it as a part of their childhood!!) and eventually got into wrestling where her showmanship’s strike was revealed and she quickly earned a stable job in there. She dislikes her turtleness and that’s why she refused to engage with Leo further.

And Venus? How about magnetic field. She can pull things in to herself and push them back for extra speed and damage. What if she did not discover it yet because of the repressed life style despite living among yokais. She also knew of Lou Jitsu and secretely idolized him. Though she knew about him not from movies from the human world, but from his fights in Nexus. She also unconsciously envied him for ‘getting away’. She is still loyal to Big Mama.

Now the relationships with the fam once they are discovered.

Jennika is very loyal to her mother but she is not interested in such a sudden big family. She is not much into it but is dragged anyway xD She can bond with Raph over their love for wrestling and will be openly critical about Leo’s humour(yes the Neon Leon xD) and not respect the squirt. Mikey will be fawning over her and she will be a bad influence on him, she likes him though, he is funky xD Donnie isn’t sure about her and constanly goes back and forth between liking her and being sus xD And she tries to use him which is not THAT hard xD (not malicious intent and hey the kid can get something out of it too xD)

Venus is... she WANTS a family but she doesn’t really know how to have one. The proper one. She is very much into hierarchy so she will be supportive with Leo being sort of adviser for him, but will shut Raph down, which will frustrate him. Mikey will be frustrated with her too, since he will try to be as open and welcoming with her as possible but she is just unreachable. She isn’t used to show her real emotions and frankly she doesn’t know how and doesn’t reciprocate Mikey’s attempts in inclusion. She will get along with Donnie very nicely though. Since Donnie doesn’t push himself on her and she is very interested in his science since she was deprived of human things.

Quite proud of of the dancing section for

Beloved Bi Crisis - The Fic

so i'm posting draft one 😊. Currently debating whether or not to extend the part with the tape, because i do really want to force Casey into proper posture just so I can talk about how physically close that is and the intimate hand placements. I need more April sections, maybe i'll do that with her? Idk.

“You don’t know how to dance?”

Casey felt embarrassed. Not knowing how to dance was perfectly normal, but the way Donnie asked that question made him feel like dancing is something he should know how to do.

“Dance, yeah I know enough. Dance with a partner, no.”

“Well why not?!”

“Because dancing is girly, and lame,” and makes Casey horribly self-conscious and Casey Jones doesn’t do self-conscious.

“Gasp! First off, dancing has been done since the dawn of humanity itself by all genders. Two, its fun. And three, it has several health and social benefits.”

Casey rolled his eyes in an attempt to seem unbothered, “Still lame.”

“This, right here, is one of the many reasons you can’t get a girl.”

“Hey!”

“Sigh, we must change this fact immediately. You got lucky today is not one of my no-touch days.”

Donnie released his battleshell and left it on his desk chair. Casey leaned back as Donnie walked over to him and pulled him out of his own seat, “Woah- no. No, no, no. Cool guys don’t dance, and they certainly don’t dance with nerds.”

“Correction number one: all cool guys dance, ask anyone above the age of fifteen.”

Damn it. Donnie was right. Only the coolest guys could dance and as much as Casey would hate to admit it out loud, this version of Donnie is in fact cool. He’s still a nerd though.

“We’ll start small. Can’t have you embarrassing yourself in front of a girl because you can’t do the most basic of dances.”

“What would you know about girls?”

Donnie raised a fake eyebrow as he stepped into Casey’s personal space, “Because, unlike you, I have actually danced with many a girl.”

Staring into Donnie’s unique and honestly breathtaking eyes while he had that smug look on his face, Casey believed him.

Donnie pulled Casey’s arms out and clasped his elbows, “We’ll start with the typical cringy high school slow dance and work our way up to a simple waltz. As you are a cringy high schooler, I’m sure you’ll pick that up quick.”

“Hey!”

Donnie looked down to the ground between their feet and Casey’s gaze followed, “I’ll lead first, and you do the opposite of me. It’s only four steps: right, left, right, left.”

Casey kept his head down as he jerkily copied the movements.

“Straighten your back and loosen up, you’re too stiff.”

After a couple minutes of silence Casey was finally starting to get it, “Hey, this isn’t that hard.”

“Now you try leading, then we’ll work on your posture and rhythm.”

Donnie’s feet stopped and Casey nearly stepped on him. Casey cautiously stepped forward and Donnie’s foot immediately stepped back. Casey tried again with his next foot and the same thing happened. As Casey continued his awkward movements Donnie began counting aloud, matching his tempo to Casey’s steps.

Donnie was a surprisingly patient teacher.

Soon Donnie quickened the tempo and Casey hurried to meet it.

“You need to stay loose, you keep tensing. It’s easier with your head up, less neck pain.”

“If I lift my head up I’ll step on you.”

“We aren’t close enough yet for you to step on me without trying too. Besides, its memorization and special awareness that directs the steps, not your eyes.”

Casey slowly moved his gaze up, stopping at Donnie’s collar bone. It was difficult without seeing his feet, but he quickly found the rhythm again.

Donnie stopped them. Casey got momentarily dizzy at the unexpected stop. Donnie rearranged Casey’s hands as he stepped closer, one rested on the side of his purple belt and the other was left in Donnie’s own hand.

“Um…”

“Relax, we’re hardly touching. The proper positioning is closer but this is the cringey high school slow dance, not competitive ballroom dancing.”

“I thought cringey high school slow dancing was just hugging and swaying?”

“Essentially, yes. But you’re going to immediately look at your feet again despite me telling you not too, and if you can’t see them you’ll overcorrect.”

Casey’s hand flexed in Donnie’s as he purposefully looked over Donnie’s shoulder instead of at him. Being this close to him was making Casey’s heart race and his hands sweat. Donnie’s free hand was now placed on his shoulder, his fingertips brushing the back of Casey’s neck.

“You’re tensing again. Stop thinking and just move.”

Casey swallowed, “Okay.”

Casey immediately looked down to their feet and Donnie flicked him on the side of the head.

“Ow!”

“No looking down.”

Casey grumbled as he stepped forward. This time when Donnie stepped back, Casey was pulled with him. The movements, when all put together, was an exaggerated, if somewhat jerky, sway.

“So, uh, what’s the point of this?”

“Of this dance? Just an excuse for lovestruck teenagers to be close to their crush. The simple repetitive movements initiate a soothing feeling, resulting in relaxation and enjoyment. Personally, I like to pair it with fast music and turn it into a game. The first person to fall off rhythm loses.”

“Who exactly do you play with?” Casey asked as they continued to sway.

“Well, usually when I dance with a partner, I don’t do this boring dance. But it’s always fun to play with April. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but she has a massive competitive streak. Same thing with Leo, but always cheats. Mikey has enough endurance to outlast all of us, he hasn’t lost since he stopped standing on our feet and dancing on his own.”

The image of a young Mikey standing on Donnie’s feet was quite adorable. Casey wonders if they have any pictures of it.

“What do you mean Leon cheats? How do you cheat at this?”

“He’ll try to trip you, or add extra moves, or mess with the music. Last time he blew on my face right after eating garlic knots,” Donnie gagged at the memory.

Casey laughed.

“Now, all you have to do is match your steps to music, and you’ve mastered the cringy high school slow dance. S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N. play some boring slow song.”

And for the next hour they stood there rocking back and forth. And once Casey got the hang of it, it was fun and relaxing. He still wouldn’t admit it though. Mikey came by to get their pizza orders, and Casey got to watch him and Donnie do a comically dramatic ballroom dance, full of wide sweeping steps, spins, and dips. Mikey tried to get Casey to dance with him after that, but Casey kept stumbling.

It turns out Mikey doesn’t joke around when it comes to dancing, and tried to duct tape them together at the waist in an attempt to fix Casey’s posture.
