Hey, I'm rambling about IkePri again
Okay, I just need to get these thoughts I have about Gilbert von Obsidian out because I enjoy predicting stuff and overthinking design and narrative choices even tho they might not be right. :P But there really isn't that much predicting other than me overthinking about narrative and design choices. This time there will be most likely spoilers of Gilbert's route so far, and route of Clavis and some thoughts I have just gathered while playing the game in general. I try to put these thoughts in cohesive order, but well... I don't know if I can really, because I just need to get these out of my head. These are my thoughts, ramblings and opinions. Feel free to form your own and certainly disagree with me! I apologize about the lack of art in this post. I'm busy with work currently so no fanart for a while. I'm also not native English speaker, so there might be grammatical errors and such. Sorry about that. Everything under the cut.
To start with Ikemen Prince is a romance visual novel first and foremost. That doesn't mean it can't be deep (and it certainly has been deeper than I initially expect, which left me positively surprised). I suppose there is somesort of thematic vibe that there is no prince whose ideals are the main thesis of the game itself. But that also kinda leaves that fact there is no huge catharsis regarding the world and it's state. Everything so far has been left quite open. And the more I have learned about lore of the world, I really feel like anti-monarchist here xd Clavis really sold me the idea for real. Or atleast throw away the absolute monarchy. That's where I think things should go, but that's my own belief. (really, the last king of Rhodolite... He umm... I have some opinions.) Chevalier and Gilbert First things first: I don't hate or dislike Chevalier as a character. There are just some things that give me Deus Ex Machina feels. But I know it is what they are going for with him. This genius that so far ahead of everyone that it is so alien concept to rest of the people. And well that is a very hard concept to pull off without being a genius yourself as a writer. Or that is what I feel like. But what I do love is what the writers are doing with him and Gilbert in thematic sense! (Hence why Chev x Gilbert sounds so juicy to me)
I really took steps to the deep end as I started to think about why I have enjoyed Gilbert's route or was interested in his story to begin with, but have little interest in trying Chev's one. Because they are so similar but they really aren't.
How I would describe it is that where as Clavis is the complementary to Chev, the purple to his yellow, the emotionality vs rationality, the heart vs the brain, Gilbert is more like right brain to Chev's left brain. If it makes sense like that xd Their color schemes are harmonious. Not opposite. Almost like how Nokto and Licht's color schemes are harmonious with each others.
(Nokto (Blue + white + gold) vs Licht (Blue + black + gold)) Not to mention that their names clearly are meant to mean light and dark. (Licht: variant for light, Nokto: comes form latin nox or noctis, meaning night = dark) But that is a rambling for another time.) Both their crests are tigers. White and black tiger. Chev's color scheme is White + gold and black. Whereas Gilbert's is Black + gold and white. But then the overall color that game devs use to signal about the characters baffles me a bit. Gold/Yellow vs Black/dark red. They don't seem to have too much connection or that of which comes to my mind quickly and without digging deeper. (because I believe that if you dig deep enough, you have digged yourself into a trap of overthinking about things. (Justifying things because you want to justify them, which I'm not big fan of. And sometimes things don't need meaning and we have to live with that. As much as it pains my overthinker brain.)) But here is my impressions about Gilbert so far. I'm at the point where MC has left the Clavis's party (I loved it btw). Gilbert really does give me toxic INFJ villain feels, but let's not get too hang up on terms such as that. But he is someone who is driven forth by his own ideals and desire to change the world better. He, like Clavis, seems to cloak himself in this idea that he is the villain and is okay, even happy, to take that role. He is the one who, like Chevalier, has thrown away emotional attachment out of the window (or so they say) unlike Clavis who makes his choices based more on emotion rather than rational thinking. Maybe that's why I like Clavis and Gilbert, they push MC out of their black and white thinking. That things are not so easy peezy as "choose a right king and everyone will be happy". There will always be someone who is mad about it. That's why I really loved the scene with Gilbert with the orphaned kids and the Clavis's party. He seems to enjoy the company of children (who are not morally corrupted or tainted) and he really empathically listens to those who are angry. He believes in the idea that "no one remembers what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel". (A quote with debatable origin, people say that it was coined by Maya Angelou. But I really love this quote, because I think it is the truth.) Gilbert isn't trying to rationalize against someone's choices with pure intellect. He uses empathy to guide him to the most rational outcome in that emotional scope. But he also uses this to manipulate people with fear. He uses fear extensively and he does it actively. Where as I feel like Chev just has that aura about him automatically. Hence my next thought: Action vs Stasis!
Gilbert and Clavis are action oriented. They shake the gameboard, they make the first moves. Gilbert probably more than Clavis. They both want change. Is it change for the better, we will see, I still haven't finished Gilbert's route but he really gives me this "I'm willing to become the greatest threat so that people unite to defeat me." or "I will conquer all so there will no longer be wars.". Chev, on the other hand, symbolizes stasis. His goal is to keep the kingdom of Rhodolite going. That's his duty and he is willing to take it. (even tho we can debate if that is something he really really believes in or even thinks about that much. I feel like it is out of obligation rather than of personal ideal. But alas, I have not played Chev's route yet.) Chev is reactive rather than proactive. He waits for the opponent to make the first move and reacts accordingly. (I'm not saying he is not reactive once game is on. More like "if there was not threat to deal with, he wouldn't create one".)
Chev doesn't care what you think about him. Gilbert does. He might seem like he doesn't but he is really there to prove a point. (I will pick up his dislike for lying later >.>) Chev is not. Chev knows that his way is the right way for him and that is enough for him. Chev also actively makes a "gettaway plan" for himself in Clavis. He knows that Clavis is the final thread that keeps him from going overboard because he understand that he has to be blind for "individual people" aspect to be a good ruler. Gilbert probably understands this about himself too, but he is trying to prove a point. So he needs to go overboard. Because masses of people need absolutes to react to. If it is something banal, it won't do. His evil actions need to shake the very foundation of ideas. The people have to face those things head on and see it for themselves. They cannot be sheltered. Gilbert gives me the vibes that he is willing to sacrifice himself not for the kingdom, but for the betterment of all mankind. He is happy to become the villain #1 if that means that other people will rise and take down the corrupted Obsidian or the corrupted idea. I would say that he is Lawful Good going on about things like Lawful Evil.
Gilbert asking questions means that he wants you to think, he wants to challenge your opinions and how you look at the world. Same as Clavis. They yearn for change. They want to change the world. Where as Chev wants to maintain things as they are. Chev "If it is not broken, we don't need to fix it" Michel. Where as Clavis and Gilbert want to improve the system. They are idealistic. Gilbert and lying
This is something very interesting. At first I thought that he was all "I dislike when people lie to me." but he really is "I dislike lying in all its forms." And he does say that he doesn't lie. And I'm starting to believe that is really the case. All the things he says are true. But because how other people see him, they are suspicious anyway. Like MC is. Like we all probably are when we start the route and think "So what is your trauma, baby girl?" When he is unsure or knows that he shouldn't say the thing he really thinks or that is true, he will deflect or give a very vague response. Which makes me quite happy to replay his route at somepoint with this in mind. In conclusion: Welcome to my TED talk, with no head or tail, just me overthinking about things about a otome gacha game. If you read this far, thank you for your time. Remember, if I ramble about it, it just means that I'm invested. Have a good day~

office from the near future. concept art for deus ex: human revolution. published in 2011, set in 2027. this is sci-fi done right. it takes into account that despite all the fancy tech and possible augmentations, our primary input is still visual, and our primary means of interaction is still touch. and as long as our bodies are physical and we are still somewhat human-shaped, that won't change. it's not hard to imagine oneself living in this room, right now, and i totally would.

Sunny
Information and speculation about a concept that Clown has made clear is no longer part of the project.
Tumblr media
Notes gathered from Tumblr/Clown’s posts:
Was a bird character in early stages of development for WH.  Sunny was a brazilian (?) bird that was bilingual.  He was pictured with maracas.
Sunny was dating Frank, which leads everyone to say that Sunny is Frank’s ex.
Sunny had a bright and friendly personality, and served as a foil to Wally.
Wally would have eventually murdered Sunny to hide his secrets.
Clown stated that Sunny was created as a sort of hero character, but over time, Clown believed that the story shouldn’t have a hero.
Sunny would save everyone by exposing Wally.
Concept photos show Sunny on the phone, as a foil to Frank (opposites)
Tumblr media
On the sticker sheet, Sunny’s name is upside down, which led my partner to turn the image upside down, which gives us a 9 instead of the 6 we were looking at.
Partner also mentioned that the other characters are holding their numbers, but Sunny’s is in his mouth.
Tumblr media
We wondered if Sunny wasn’t going to be resurrected and become the 9th neighbor or a ghost or something, but Clown has been very insistent that Sunny is gone and no longer part of the project. (in light of conversations tonight, I might have been speculating about the wrong neighbor as a ghost)
Could Clown be throwing us off?
“Some say Home is the 9th neighbor” some say because others say Sunny was the 9th neighbor?
Edit: the guestbook has a comment that says "where did the 9th neighbor go?"
But, there is a phone without an owner and it looks old and beat up (also, made of wood).  Could this be Sunny’s phone?  The phone/card illustration (opposites) shows him on a red phone, and he is #6, where Frank is 3 (also yellow).
I’m not sure if the you’re free/i’m sorry graphic is Clown’s.  It really looks like their style and resembles art I have seen of Frank (insert image of Frank with female hands in front of him) and also Wally (hand coming out of his mouth)
You’re Sunny, You’re Free:  This image shows Sunny looking heroic, obviously behind some kind of door, with each character’s hands touching him.  Could be in fear, supplication, pushing?  The lightened image shows the many sets of eyes on this guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looks like the notes on Sunny's shirt
On the site, one of the first pictures in the roll was an ad for some Playfellow products, with a blank spot and letter write overs.  Let me tell you, from the beginning I have been obsessed with clarifying some of these images, and I have learned how to use photoshop way better as a result of my obsession:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I first manipulated this image, I was convinced that there was some kind of Moon-headed guy there in the dark.  I could see a crescent moon shape.  I was convinced (and I wrote some about) that there was some kind of moon character to balance out Sally’s character, as there are sun and moon combos around.
But when I really started thinking about Sunny, I looked at this and thought, not a crescent moon, a beak.  Sunny was pushed out of this ad, because he was pushed out of the show/reality/whatever.  Sally comes in as his replacement.  For the life of me, I can’t think of why Clown wouldn’t have just called the new character Sunny.  After all, she is the sun.
This could all be wishful thinking because I really like this character.  When compared with the other characters, Sunny is fun and cool.  Plus, Sally is an actor who came in on a deus ex machina (fell from the sky, OK).  She is another kind of petty and weird character who just replaced this other guy, almost like an actor in a recast role.
Tumblr media
Sunny image/ad for fisher price people style toy.  The neighborhood exists and the children have seen it.
“The Neighborhood”; Sunny.  The Neighborhood’s happiest little blue bird flies in with a dance in his heart!  It’s like he’s really here!  So we’re going to get rid of it for good! We’re all going to get rid of it! we’re going to get rid of it for good! We’re all going to get rid of it! we’re going to get rid of it for good! We’re all going to get rid of it! we’re going to get rid of it for good! We’re all going to get rid of it! You’re  going to get rid of it for good! We’re all going to get rid of it! You’re  going to get rid of it for good! We’re all going to get rid of it!  You’re  going to get rid of it for good! We’re all going to get rid of it!
I think it is very possible that Sunny will make another appearance. Maybe he will only appear as a memory.

Writerly Thumbprint Challenge~
Rules: look back on your work, both past and present, finished and unfinished. what are five (or more!) narrative elements, themes, topics or tropes that continuously pop up in your work?
Tagged by @thana-topsy ❤️❤️❤️
For all of the nattering I do at my friends about my fics, I really had to think about this, (unless I just wanted it to be a list of all my favorite fanfic tropes.)
(Which I kind of do so they will come rapid-fire at the end hehehehe)
Crisis of Faith - At some point, at least one of my characters will have to question everything they've been taught or thought about the Way the Universe Works. This may be a crisis of actual religious faith, or in the way they view abstract concepts like Truth or Justice, or in the way they view some institution or authority figure. Unlike some of the themes that follow, I know exactly where this one comes from. See, I grew up in a very fundamentalist house hold. Like speaking in tongues, the earth is 5000 years old, and having an erotic dream is just as sinful as sex type of fundamentalist house hold. I even went to a religious college and learned some Latin and Greek to try to figure out which Christian denomination was The One True Church. I graduated from that religious college with straight As in all my theology/religion courses and new found atheism. So, crises of faith and deconversion arcs are very compelling to me, but I really love exploring what a deconversion/reaffirmation of faith means in the context of worlds where there is incontrovertible evidence that the gods/divine/supernatural do actually exist. I suppose it's a little bit of wish fulfillment - sometimes it would be nice to have the comfort of religion again, but that's a bell that can't be un-rung, at least for me. Tropes that come out of this that I loooooooove: -baptism imagery -oracles/prophecy -martyrdom -pretty men tied up and tortured (I'm not sure whether going to church and being SURROUNDED by the kinkinest goddamn fetish art of various saints dying horribly changed my brain chemistry or whether my brain was always That Way and the visuals just made it bearable but either way.)
The Universe Doesn't Give a Shit About You, but I do - this is the second part of the Crisis of Faith. The Protagonist has realized that searching for meaning outside of themselves is pointless, and that in the face of an implacable, uncaring void the only way to find meaning is within oneself and in the connections forged with fellow beings.
The Crucible - I love angst. I...honestly cannot think of a time that I wanted to do something horrible to a character and toned it down before publishing a fic. But I really want it to have a point - I want my characters to go through hell and back, to be completely destroyed, remade, but also to come out the other side changed when they shed all the extraneous things and discover what their essential inner essence is.
Hidden Depths - in this case I'm not referring to the main protagonist discovering their inner strength; to me that is part and parcel of The Crucible. What I just eat up with a spoon and love writing is secondary characters, minor characters, and especially antagonists revealing some of their inner world and it surprising the hell out of everyone. The taciturn swordsman turns out to actually be really good at sewing. The logical scholar loves romance, etc. It can be hard to not have this end up being a deus ex machina crutch to resolve corners I've written myself into, but some of the best times of my life have been when I've discovered something I didn't know about someone I've known for years and they bust it out just when we need it (usually final jeopardy round at pub trivia) I want my protagonist to suddenly see every previous interaction with that person in a new light because they've now glimpsed the Hidden Deep.
Cleansing, or in other (Greek) words Catharsis - Someone somewhere is going to end up in a bathtub. Getting scrubbed. Usually this physical vulnerability will mirror the emotional vulnerability between the scrubber and the scrub-ee. It's also a really fun place for smut.
Sanctuary - in real life, after we've gone through the Crucible to achieve our Catharsis we rarely get a chance to breathe. The activities of daily living still require our attention: pets must be fed, jobs must be reported to, taxes must be paid. But something that almost always happens in my stories after the big resolution is that circumstances contrive to give my characters a physical place where they do not have to worry about keeping themselves fed or housed while tying up loose ends. They've ended up in a secure environment separated from the rest of the world. They always end up having to leave this place, and do so willingly, but the time they spend in it gives them space to come to terms with the events that came before, and plan out their next steps, without the pressures of the outside world. This has taken the form of a temple, a spaceship, and a giant tree in various fics. And then, of course, there's this that might as well be a personal attack:

Shallow Approaches to Transhumanism
I recently watched Rhystic Studies' video on Phyrexia. In case you aren't aware, Phyrexia is a hellscape and a faction where horrific and runaway transhumanism features heavily.
I am often disappointed by how shallow even (supposedly!) great works of art treat transhumanism. I don't think Phyrexia says much that is meaningful on the topic of transhumanism's political problems -- and I'm pretty sure that was never the goal. I don't think MTG has to be deep on this axis, people don't go to fantasy for realistic political analogues, but despite that, people are drawn to trying to suggest strong connections to real world political issues. And this always makes me focus on the inadequacies of art rather than its virtues.
We live in a world where, sans AI risk, the main threat from technology is unequal control, which will lead to the class that has control over technology dominating the class that does not -- and this process can accelerate. This social problem is rarely represented in media and it is ongoing. It is not a problem of the future, it is a problem of the present. Those who do not have access to technology are forever at the mercy of those who do. And technological progress accelerates technological progress.
More on Phyrexia
To take Phyrexia as an example of shallowness -- it has beings that are just stronger than others. The resulting hierarchy is somewhat arbitrary or fueled by fantasy worldbuilding -- it is not generated by the societal structure of Phyrexia. The concept of Phyrexia generates the social structures as needed, in order to serve the themes the artist already wanted to depict.
And a lot of these themes of technology-induced spiritual degradation are used purely because it is a popular and easy theme to approach. It has been affixed to the shared artistic consciousness of humanity though sheer repetition because it is an easy way to introduce a tension where none would otherwise exist, and to explore interesting and messed up things.
Its origins lie in two places. Religious opposition and economic fears. For that matter, I can freely admit it is delicious for Phyrexia to have religious overtones -- this embraces spiritual degradation, it's just on the nose now, but it also assimilates a desire for spirituality within that which supposedly destroys it. I think MTG fails to take this synthesis to its extreme however -- Phyrexia is never a genuine religion that just happens to be extremely messed up, but rather it is a monument to the sin of pride, ala Divine Comedy.
Phyrexia's language is vastly more developed by the creators and has its own unique beauty, but the same care isn't given to its religious worldbuilding, which remains, in most cases, just an inversion of good, failing to emphasize the alien.
Human Revolution [spoilers]
Looking at Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the endings feature a pretty insane set of choices. I am going to explain them very expediently, feel free to look them up in more detail.
Reveal the truth about what corporations have been doing with augmentation technology and let humanity decide.
Pervert the truth, blame extremists, so that skepticism of augmentation technology does not rise.
Pervert the truth, to make all of it look as just an accident that can be resolved by increased government regulation.
Destroy the mcguffin facility, never share any information to humanity, to "let them decide".
The fourth ending is so idiotic we can ignore it.
If you have any respect for your fellow humans, casually creating an extremely potent distortion of reality by falsifying evidence on such an important matter should be out of the question (2 & 3).
If you pick ending 2, Adam talks about how it is in humanity's nature to rise above its limitations. Ending 3 is like a dumbass centrist take, humanity should self improve, but we need more oversight.
Ending 1, which is, on the object level, the least morally objectionable one, triggers Adam to say some extremely opinionated shit at the end such as "Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal". Technology is bad and humanity cannot be trusted with it.
The common theme in all of this is that there are never specific groups at fault or specific features of how we have set up society. It's always about the essential moral value of technology and whether humanity's nature is good enough to handle technology. It is inherently both a collectivistic view and a strongly morally essentialist view. Phyrexia investigates transhumanism from the same angle, in this respect. I could rant for two hours how extremely Christian brained this is, but I'll spare you that.
What I mean to say in the end is that the vast majority of media is completely allergic to dealing with object level problems, with specificity. It is easier to repeat existing themes than to look again at the world and investigate something more relevant to our lives.

Exploring the Enigmatic Realm of Cyberpunk: Unraveling the Questions It Poses
Introduction
Cyberpunk, a genre that seamlessly melds the gritty elements of punk culture with futuristic, cybernetic advancements, is more than just a form of entertainment; it's a profound commentary on the human condition. This genre, emerging in the late 20th century, has since infiltrated various forms of media, each contributing uniquely to the cyberpunk ethos. From the neon-lit streets in movies like "Blade Runner" to the intricate narratives of video games like "Cyberpunk 2077", cyberpunk challenges us with existential and ethical quandaries that resonate deeply with contemporary societal issues.
Literary Beginnings: Setting the Foundation
The roots of cyberpunk are firmly planted in literature. William Gibson’s "Neuromancer", a seminal work, poses questions about the nature of consciousness and the relationship between humans and technology. Gibson’s world, where the line between reality and virtual space blurs, makes us ponder if our perception of reality is as concrete as we believe. Similarly, Philip K. Dick’s "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", adapted into the iconic film "Blade Runner", questions the essence of humanity and empathy, challenging us to consider what truly makes us human.
Cinematic Ventures: Visualizing Dystopia
In cinema, cyberpunk takes a more visceral form. "Blade Runner" (1982) and its sequel "Blade Runner 2049" depict a future where synthetic humans question their creators, raising ethical issues about creation and the rights of artificial beings. Meanwhile, "The Matrix" trilogy delves into the concept of simulated reality, pushing us to question the very nature of our existence and the possibility of a reality controlled by AI.
Television and Anime: Expanding Narratives
Television series and anime have significantly contributed to the cyberpunk genre. "Altered Carbon" explores themes of identity and morality in a world where consciousness can be transferred to different bodies. Anime like "Ghost in the Shell" interrogate the boundaries between human and machine, while "Akira" exposes the consequences of unbridled technological advancement and societal decay.
Gaming Worlds: Interactive Exploration
Video games offer an interactive dimension to cyberpunk themes. "Cyberpunk 2077", despite its rocky start, immerses players in a world where cybernetic enhancements are the norm, confronting issues of corporatism, identity, and the augmentation of the human body. Similarly, "Deus Ex" series allows players to navigate a future rife with conspiracy, ethical dilemmas, and the consequences of human augmentation.
Music and Art: Auditory and Visual Symbolism
Cyberpunk's influence extends into music and art, where it adopts an auditory and visual language that communicates its themes. Bands like Perturbator and Carpenter Brut, through their synthwave music, encapsulate the neon-drenched, dystopian essence of cyberpunk. Art, particularly in the digital and graphic novel realms, often depicts sprawling, neon-lit cityscapes and cybernetically enhanced characters, visually representing the genre’s core themes.
Conclusion: Reflecting Our Current Realities
Cyberpunk is more than a speculative fiction genre; it's a mirror reflecting our current realities and anxieties. It questions the unchecked growth of technology, the ethical implications of artificial intelligence, and the socio-political consequences of corporate dominance. In every medium it touches, cyberpunk compels us to ponder our future, our humanity, and the increasingly blurred line between the two. Whether through the pages of a novel, the scenes of a movie, the episodes of an anime, or the interactive realms of video games, cyberpunk continues to challenge, provoke, and inspire.

(cw for mentions of death)
hi there! i'm sorry if you've talked about this before, but i'm curious to know your thoughts on the concept of God sending Christ to earth specifically for Him to die for the redemption of sin. i'm not sure exactly what i believe about this, but i've always struggled to reconcile the very idea of a loving God 1) creating a human specifically for the purpose of killing that human and 2) requiring any kind of sacrifice for the redemption of humanity (e.g. why wouldn't God simply forgive humanity without all the extra steps and suffering on Jesus's part). it brings questions to my mind about when this detail of christian theology was settled on, and also if it's a fringe belief to think that maybe God *didn't* originally intend for Jesus to die, but to redeem the world through teaching instead, and the execution was an unseen side effect of such teaching. it's a very complicated issue to me, and i'm curious to hear what you think about it!
Hey there, anon, thanks for the question!
Based on a lot of conversations over the years, I feel like a very large number of Christians
either struggle with or flat out don't believe in the idea that God sent Christ to suffer & die for our sins, but
assume that this is like, the one and only Church-Approved way of understanding Jesus, salvation, the cross, and all that jazz.
I say this to let you know that you're not alone in having these questions (definitely not a fringe belief!), and that there are lots of other perspectives out there, including ones held by serious theologians.
For instance, I think you'll resonate with what Rachel Held Evans wrote on the subject in her book Inspired (which I can't recommend enough for folks looking to understand the Bible in new and life-affirming ways):
“Any view that reduces Jesus to a sort of deus ex machina, necessary only for a single moment of rescue, strips the incarnation of all its power and tells a far simpler story than the one the Bible actually gives us.
Jesus didn’t just “come to die.” Jesus came to live—to teach, to heal, to tell stories, to protest, to turn over tables, to touch people who weren’t supposed to be touched and eat with people who weren’t supposed to be eaten with, to break bread, to pour wine, to wash feet, to face temptation, to tick off the authorities, to fulfill Scripture, to forgive, to announce the start of a brand-new kingdom, to show us what that kingdom is like, to show us what God is like, to love his enemies to the point of death at their hands, and to beat death by rising from the grave.
Jesus did not simply die to save us from our sins; Jesus lived to save us from our sins. His life and teachings show us the way to liberation. But you can’t fit all that on a bumper sticker.”
______
I'm gonna throw some links at you to explore; once you've looked through a few, feel free to ask me any follow-up questions :)
If you have the time for it, my top recommendation is my YouTube livestream "What Happened on the Cross? Exploring theologies from substitution to solidarity." -- If you don't have time for the whole video, watch 13:01 - 21:54 for some validation of your own questioning of a loving God willing the brutality of the cross. -- Then starting at like 1:20:00 I get into the theologies that focus on Jesus on earth as 1) God incarnate, not a victim sent by God to die; 2) expressing ultimate solidarity with the oppressed; and more .
Here's a quote similar to the one I shared above — just another take emphasizing that Jesus came do so much more than die.
Oh, and another such quote! .
Then there's my whole #crucifixion tag full of quotes, art, lots of stuff .
Finally, you might enjoy my tag #the human Jesus — more of a tangent than direct response to your ask, but it's full of fun imaginings of what Jesus was like here on earth.

Hello Lou, i was wondering, do you plan on adding a clothing/fashion board to your pinterest for Ouroboros?
I admit that i have a bit of difficulties to imagine the clothing/fashion of this universe (since i'm not very familiar with science-fantasy/solarpunk settings), so if you wouldn't mind showing us some exemple for our MC, it would be a great help!
I also wanted to thank you very much for your hard work, i'm looking forward to the next part, take your time and drink water <3
Hey! I am so sorry I forgot to answer this and I hope that maybe you saw that I added a whole section to the [them]- board just when I went on vacation? It was so much fun finding outfit inspiration, so thanks for this (and your encouragement, you RULE.)<3
some samples from that board, what I imagine is the most common type of fit:

A lot of clothing depends on the wearers combat-role as well! A sniper/archer would use heavy camouflage and runners (those that traverse deeper into the forest) wear more cloaks and fabric for travel. A standard hunter wears skintight clothes to not snag on branches or such. The guards (those that stay by the hedge) wear plate armor as they are the final defense without need for extensive mobility. As for style, a good blend of the fur & fabric in fantasy mixed with the more streamlined looks of sci-fi and cyberpunk/steampunk. Prosthetics are exceedingly common and often ornamental and fashionable, like

One of many Bob sketches I had done past week. Middle of inktober I got this mental image of our Bobby here killing Adam Jensen. Notion I got due to achievement tracking being broken for the game (I normally do not have GOG galaxy turned on thus no achievement tracking for games) and that for some reason perma death mode is no longer enabled for my game. So I wanted Jensen dead. Then I go google that Bobby. So I found exactly 1 concept art image, and that he looks different in all 4 games. I get it - he gets fancy nano augmentations, but if they change mans hair colour between HR and MD, what am I supposed to make him? So 1st sketches he had wet blonde long hair like a rock-star, but probably not... . has any other Deus Ex character been redesigned as many times as he has ? So i took some liberties to mix all 4 into one. I kept his cool looking jacket from MD though. What am I talking about ... they managed to change him even between the HQ render (from load-screens) and in-game cut-scenes. If you have keen enough eye to spot that. Apparently his jacket has (at least) 5 zippers... Why, Bob? Why ? Are there any pockets in there as well ? Or is he keeping some Illuminati secrets in there ?

Have you seen the "Invictus" Jason Todd Death Day Animatic by shyuwe? It's amazing and I want someone good at saying thoughts on the internet to talk about it.
Sorry for the late reply anon and no I had not! But I watched it now and yeah it's cool, here's a link to the vid by @shyuwe.
I find it really difficult honestly to talk about art, because good art already says more than words could express about it, you know? Just watch the video and see for yourself! However I will say something about the choice of the poem "Invictus" by Willima Ernest Henley, from Life and Death for Jason, because omg yes! Continued under cut.
Here's the poem first:
Tumblr media
Invuctus means as much as unconquerable or undefeated. Frankly a title I can stand by for Jason. Seeing as one of my favorite aspects of Jason's character is his representation of victims and I stand by the fact that we are undefeated by what has happened to us. The word recognizes the gravity of what has happened and pays homage to your experience and finally we get to see ourselves not only as the sufferers of a poor fate, but also the victors, you're still standing. And I will be the last person to ever tell someone how that "standing" has to look like to be undefeated. Overcoming is not something you have to earn, you already overcame. You have nothing to prove to be undefeated.
The "unconquerable soul" is not exemplified in the body that is standing tall more than in the body that is slumping and panting, no matter how you stand or breath, you are still breathing. The other verses of the first stanza are rather straightforward in setting the stage. Our main character is in the black of the night, in the belly of the whale. They are where all is lost and seems hopeless, but that does not mean they are defeated.
Moving on to the second stanza. This part of the poem acknowledges a disillusioned worldview. It is hard to perceive the world as still containing beauty and hope after trauma. And yet you can be unafraid. And I do hope for everyone who has suffered to be able to return to a previous, more naive, less burdensome, perspective. But if you can't, then frankly that is alright, it does not have to diminish your spirit. I think Jason incorporates a lot of the concept of lost innocence, of not being able to return to how things were. But while Jason does grieve his own loss, he does not lose hope to that fact.
Finally, the last stanza, as a call to the strength of autonomy. Now Bruce might like to think he works alone, but Batman's strength lies in his allies. Jason however has perfected himself into the deus ex machina of himself. He has learnt that sometimes there is no powerful saviour who will swoop in for you. Jason is a one man army in combat skill, knowledge and in practice as well. We have seen team-ups, but they never seem to stick. Something about Jason screams lone wolf.
Because the truth is, after trauma, the only person you want to feel is strong enough to protect you is yourself. In a realistic sense, trauma does not make you dependent on other people, it can make you want to become the most whole and in control person you can be. This is why some children from abusive and neglectful homes have incredible emotional reflectivity and recognition skills. They will not be victims of the arbitrariness of emotions any longer and have mastered the flow of their own and others emotions just to feel a semblance of control. It's why victims might have incredible scheduling and self-discipline skill. Coming out of an unpredictable and volatile situation they have gained control of their surroundings. It's why vicitms might be high-achievers in academics, because they know what is expected and they can control their input and actually get the reward that was promised. Jason is to me an epitome of effective pragmaticism. He knows the value of reliability and certainty. Rather than going in hotheaded in an attempt to murder a man for trafficking children, he employs a failsafe by also poisoning his energy drink. Because Jason is the one in control. He orchestrates a distraction for Batman and spends three hours creeping up on the Batmobile to plant a bomb. His anger doesn't ignite him like an explosion, it fuels him, like the steady supply of purpose.
Jason is in command now, the captain of his soul. Because let us face it, so far Jason's life has been shaped only by other people. His parents' deaths, Bruce adopting him, Sheila betraying him, the Joker murdering him, Superboy Prime's punch returning him to life. Jason's life has been so far out of his autonomy and control, but he claims command of his soul and of his fate. No one has set him on his vengeance trip against Bruce and against the Joker. No one defines Jason anymore. Bruce does not actually have the power to grant whether or not Jason is a hero, It's Jason's jurisdiction now who he is and if he says he is a hero, the patron saint to victims, the avenging spirit of the innocent, then yes, he is.
This is not only about strength in the face of adversity, this is about the fact that you are the only authority you need, your autonomy is the only justification and permission you need to continue being strong. No one fucking else gets to decide for you anymore.

ayo whos ur favorite deus ex character btw nice art
ohhhhh GOD my time has come. and so have i (wRONG GAME)
tldr
i love "main" 7-8 of them equally. What is a main to me? ofc Adam, Frank, Megan, Malik, Eliza, JC and Alex D. One special place in my heart is for Vaclav
big text below
Thank for compliment btw 😖
Spoilers alert ? idk
Tumblr media
(warning my english is gonna be sometimes sooo rusty i guess)
DOUBLE WARNING I don’t rule out that over the many years of being in dxs fandom, the main concept of game's lore in my head just didnt messed up with my own headcanons. it is alteady messed up. cuz. yk) me n my besties created the full story aND - [GUNSHOT]
yeah i know it is strange to say, that dx has more main characters that just. Adam, JC and Alex D, cuz. They are Literally The Main chars. But back to my seven.
As i said before i love them all equally, for different reasons. One thing abt dx as a game is that characters arent plain and they are multifaceted.(?)
Adam
I love Adam for his complicated story, personality, for his own struggles, motivations and how they are represented in game. These small environment storytelling pieces and music that creates the mood (wait redswa it isnt abt the environment). What im trying to say. Through the gameS - dxhr and dxmd - we can see how Adam is healing from his trauma, and how heavy it was. Also needet to be noted how he interacts w another characters. AND this tension between him and Frank but how at the end of the day (but lit at panchaea) Frank is still cares a lot abt Adam.
Also Adam is just like my bestie. Moral think for yourself. Yeah.
Pritchard
ONE thing i need to say abt frank is HESSS JUST LIKE MEE FRR, and now imagine some kind of cringe sigma phonk playing on the background. Yeah thats it. I relate to him so much but like. in more✨deep infj cringe way✨ Have you evere feel like Pritchard is gonna explode from nerves or even neurotism? Or like from blast of incomperhensible mess of feelings but he hides it? This is what im talking about. Heyy dont judge me i need to project some shit to my faves okay???? Damn how could you tell i have a lot of hc on dx? i have no idea!
I love Pritchard's informality. I mean. BRO WHY YOUR BIKE IS EVEN ON YOUR WORKPLACE???? AND THIS FINAL FANTASY POSTER???? AND THIS TV INSTALLATION??? honestly?understandable.
In Prague, Frank is still reminds Adam abt himself. Yeah i knoe it is for game purposes, but imo in lore perspective: Pritchard is gathered a lot of info for Adam (basically dxhr retelling), and this small detail: Adam keeps Pritchard's book. (i know you can find them anywhere in Prague, but still (methink eidos gaf later abt this texture and put it anywhere jus because lmao))
Tumblr media
This ^^^ is Frank btw
Ok enough abt Pritchard cuz then its gonna be endless
Megan and Malik.
Another notable thing that i like in dx series is that women in game arent sexualized. They arend "simple and f🤮ckable objescts" Megan is a scientist, on a verge of the greatest innovation. Yes. We dont know much abt her bc she is literally missing. Malik is a pilot. Damn i love her sm. Her chardesign. Strong and powerful charisma and nonconfotmity. Faridah's sidequest in Hengsha???? MY GIRLLLL GO AND GET AND BEAT SHIT OF THIS ASSHOLE. 👊👊👊👊
I remember how sad was i, when Malik was killed in dxhr and how happy was i to find out her little gift in Prague.
Overall kinda sad that there is not much screentime of them.
AND another notable thing. Megan and revolver. Revolver as an inspiration. OK I GOT IT
Tumblr media
Eliza
Its 2028 and AI is already taken big steps in development. Questions of self-consciousness of an AI were asked in a lot of sci-fi creations. And deus is not not an exception. Love how Eliza obtains her own conscious during the game and how it leads to project Hyron at the end. I have a lot of thought abt p. Hyron overall. Another topic ngl.
And ofc her design is beyond all praise. Thank you designers for NOT making her oversexualized.
During dxmd Eliza is also questioning a lot of essential questions. I know she does. But cant remember what exactly it was. Need to replay tho
JC
My bad, i still cant play through dx original, so i can only rely on his vibes. His vibes are good and silly. He has big meme potential cuz hes test-tubed. Not sorry tho
Tumblr media Tumblr media
bro im laughing and exploding from this meme like 3 yrs but RIGHT NOW DURING ANSWERING YOUR ASK I UNDERSTOOD THAT THIS IS SOYJAK REFERENCE AND NOW IM DYING LIKe x3 TIMES I WAS SO BLIND MY VISION WASNT AUGMENTED TILL NOW
Alex D
When my pc even didnt existed and i was a laptop player, when the grass was greener....... I played dxiw. Yeah it isnt so big, but for its times it is good enough. Alex also radiate vibes of small and silly-stupid-Bi guy, the one who is gonna trip on air.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(meme with pom dog says "I will gnaw out your heart and eat it")
Look at him. Hes got an ears, unlike his brothers, but he has ZERO braincells. JC and Paul at least got some braincells, maybe one, or two and they are belong to Paul. Cost of an ears = cost of brain
Alex tried to fool up an AI. I would venture to say that he even flirted with her, and got rejected. Local bidlow tried to gop-stop (bandits tried to steal) his jacked and he could give it to and be like "better be pissed on than punched😖"
Yes, He is a silly fool (noneg, with love) but hes got a big heart like. At least, i remember so.
And last but not least
Vaclav
Love him for his light distinctive punkie nature, with big heart and ready to help whenever you need it. Vaclav tries his best so much. In library we can find cz-eng vocabulary with medical terms, when ig most of his patiens are czechs... says a lot
I would say that vaclav is silly but not stupid, not even naive. We can find him on Dvali's blacklist, but he is important for them. (but we also remember that otar just dont like him cuz vac knows radich's secret and otar is not (mb that the reason why vaclav is blacklisted))
well how to say it.. he's soul is good and lovely, he is not evil or dark. Idk cant find an eng analogue.
But in srb and ru we have доброћудан [dobrochudan] (literally good-lovely) or добродушный [dobrodushny] (good-souly)
actually this gif sums everything abt him very well
Tumblr media
Thank you for ask! I really liked to talk on this topic

How do you think Ron power should be handled had the show continued?
In fanfiction I’ve seen that aspect been handled in three ways:
A) Ron becomes more confident and self assured if a little boastful
B)Ron becomes arrogant
C) is simply ignored to preserve the status quo
I was never a fan of the mystical monkey power storyline, but there is no denying that is an interchangeable aspect of Ron’s character that can’t be easily swept under the rug.
I like the idea of Ron becoming more competent and confident. But if handles incorrectly I can also view his new powers becoming some sort of power creep, at least we know Ron is a grounded and calm person by nature and I don’t believe he would get big-headedness anymore, those few moments were signs of insecurity and not true arrogance and I think his character developed beyond that.
It got me thinking: Would Ron character change after what happened in graduation? Would he become more self-assured? Or would that event make him become more careful with powers? Could that change the way he sees himself? Or change the dynamics of the team?
I’ve seen this concepts rarely ever get explored in fanfiction, what do you think? If the show had continued how would you have liked to see the show or on fanfiction handle Ron’s powers?
i'll assume both asks were you since they're almost identical, so i'm just gonna answer this one.
what i have seen in post-grad fanfic regarding the mystic monkey powers is usually either 1) ron is afraid of the power because he killed the lorwardians; afraid he might get "out of control" again, afraid he'll hurt ppl he loves... or 2) the power indeed takes hold of him like an insanity and he becomes a villain and we don't even get to see much struggle about it. lots of angst, not my thing... that is, while angst is my thing, with ron both of those angles seem out of character.
now ron having a casual arrogance... he does that in ron the man, ron millionaire, less so in naked genius... but you get the point. a little casual arrogance from some false sense of grandeur IS in fact, in character for ron. so that angle wouldn't bother me.
not really reading anything besides drakgo fanfic, i really wouldn't know though 😅 that's just what i've seen in the past when i did glance around. none of that fic ever quite grabs me though.
since the events of graduation seemed to be ron coming into his own with the powers and actually HAVING the control, since prior manifestations of his power seem to be random... he'd show sudden awesome fighting skill and confidence almost subconsciously at various points throughout the entire series, for example... yeah i think that post-grad he'd be far more in sync with himself? able to use the monkey kung fu consciously and confidently. i can imagine he and kim fighting a foe and ron starting to do his typical running and hiding and then being like, wait a sec, and turning and fighting. maybe asking kim if she feels that cool all the time, and how does she just know instinctively what to do, and how awesome it is... they could bond now over both being martial arts masters, haha. and i think he'd only call upon the mystical blue stuff in very dire need like against the lorwardians. but i think he'd be in full control, full awareness... that's most in character for ron, you know? and i like things to stay in character.
that's how i feel about it both character-wise, and show-wise... had the show had a fifth college season or something for example, the mystic monkey power is sort of a uh... deus ex machina? like the battlesuit, which is why it was always on the fritz in S4. there's no threat if he's always using the powers or kim always has the battlesuit, so yeah. but i think he'd be in full control anyway due to like i said, graduation was about him coming into his own finally. to backpedal from that would just...kinda negate that character development. so probably they just wouldn't face foes where that sort of thing is necessary, if we think about it from the practical cartoon storytelling standpoint.
i don't think it changes their team dynamic anymore than just allowing ron to fight more confidently at kim's side. they still are who they are, and to...drastically change something means we're no longer watching Kim Possible as we love it. so...yeah. i hope that answers the question and makes sense. thanks for the ask!

Sherlock Holmes The Awakened Demo Thinky Thoughts
A bit late, but I wanted to share my first reaction to the Awakened demo! This is essentially an expanded version of what I wrote on the FW discord, with screenshots edited to look nicer for tumblr. I will do a separate post on the extra stuff that is normally inaccessible without Ansel. [Extra stuff post here]
So: spoilers ahead + keep in mind that the game is darker and moodier, I edited some of the screenshots so that they are clearer on tumblr/mobile view.
Tumblr media
Sweet sweet concept art, gorgeous intro music, yay! The main theme is atmospheric and dark, giving me very slight vibes of the Sarif HQ track from DX:HR... I mean this in a good way, not in a “they copied it” way. It’s that sort of nostalgic ambience, but deeper and darker. One day I’ll stop drawing parallels to Deus Ex, but today is not that day.
Tumblr media
The intro cinematic is pre-rendered and really good; I liked Sherlock's narration and the implication it's all in Watson's/players' hands now... He sounds more authoritative and distant than in CO.
Tumblr media
I really liked the visual with the fly caught in the cobweb.
Tumblr media
I did not expect this! It's a really fun title sequence and wow, we’re being thrown straight into chapter 3. I too thought it would be London but this is great 😄
Tumblr media
WATSON!!! At this point I’m thinking, “Oooh we're gonna play as Watson, they probably don’t want to show Sherlock just yet, I know someone who's gonna be very happy about this o,o” (ahem hem, @lucere-aeresta) I like long dialogues/cinematics so this intro was a treat. I'll have to replay of course but it felt very satisfying to see a chunk of the story here and be introduced to the new characters. There’s a lot going on!
Tumblr media
The receptionist
Tumblr media
Dr. Gygax!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can walk around a little and talk to a couple of NPCs. There’s this easter egg - it’s a Lovecraft easter egg (thanks for figuring that one out, Lucere!) The paper itself is straight from Cordona. :D
Tumblr media
You cannot pick this letter up, but the message is very clear. May be a clue in the final game.
Tumblr media
Who’s there...? BTW this is the exact face Sherlock gives Jon when he plays the guitar too loudly in the CO seance scene :D
Tumblr media
OH NO. LMAO! This had me in stitches, and of course I lied. Nice American accent, you dork. The subsequent journal entry essentially saying "Watson tried to act, I guess" gave me a chuckle. I tried!  So hard! And in the en-- moving on...
Here’s how the journal looks like now. The clues have updated icons and you can toggle to sort them by type (document, conversation, item, etc.) or the order in which you found them.
Tumblr media
So yeah, Sherlock shows up in disguise and a terrible American accent, says the iconic “Guten day,” and then he gets sedated because Watson cannot lie to save his life.
Tumblr media
Of course. OF COURSE. Now I know someone who's going to be a bit disappointed we don’t spend much time as Watson, but that's not me. 😂 My first thought -> they heard us cry and wail about the stubble and said "We're gonna make you beg to have the stubble back" Ok, ok, you win. I'm sorry. 😭
Tumblr media
(insert half an hour of zooming around with Ansel instead of playing the damn game) This is how the game levels look when you go out of bounds!
Tumblr media
Found some of you in the back! And in the cells! :3 (There’s a wall with photographs of the Kickstarter backers, and a row of cells with names and custom faces - although you cannot see the characters very well at this point.)
Tumblr media
Right, I should play. The lockpicking puzzles were fun, but I'll admit I found both of them extremely easy. But I am a seasoned adventure game fan and it's a nice little thing to do for that feeling of escaping the cells. The “Mycroft” (custom) difficulty setting does let you change the puzzle difficulty, so we are probably going to face a bigger challenge in the finished game. The settings don’t make a difference in the demo, though.
Tumblr media
SHERLOCK. NO. PUT IT DOWN.
Tumblr media
PUT THOSE DOWN OH MY GOD
So yeah, I think it’s safe to say he’s a full blown addict by now. Vogel, what have you done?
Tumblr media
Ran into the guard three times, got a game over 😎 Confirmation that yeah Sherlock is still afraid of water! I bet he's gonna love the trip to America and boating around the swamps. What could go wrong.
FYI, there's a guard that you need to figure out how to get past. It's not a sneaking sequence, but you need some items. If he notices you 3 times he rings the alarm, and the game reloads
At this point I'm having fun just investigating stuff and admiring the new journal etc., it's all very nicely designed. It's awesome that we can sort evidence by type now! The mind palace facelift is so good and feels more involved than before.
Tumblr media
Back to the game... I SQUEALED!!! 😄 duhhh
Tumblr media
And again! Two back to back CO references, yay ♥
Well I am a smart detective and deal with the guard with my brain and not my fists. Time to yoink all of his clothes. Where did his body go? We don't ask such questions around here...
Tumblr media
HEEEEEEEEELLLLLLL YEAAAAAAAH
Tumblr media
ANSEL PHYSICS RESET MY BELOVED ♥♥ never fix this please never ever
(cue another photoshoot)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The biggest tease in all of the demo: THAT EXCLAMATION MARK. Let... me... see... outfits! 😂 Lovingggg the updated outfit screen, so happy there's some gorgeous lighting in there. It looked kinda bad in CO.
Tumblr media
Okay, back to playing the game! I LIED, more photoshoots as the inmates scream, cry, and wail all around me. Sucks to be them, I guess.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, Gerda! I LOVE her new design, and her voice actress too! She was so great.
Gerda is the second inmate that we meet. She wants her friend Heidi back and until then she will not talk. The first inmate that we meet is Mauricio Napoleon, it is just a short but entertaining conversation/cinematic. We don’t talk to him any more in the demo.
Tumblr media
He does that lil smile as she spits the worst threats at him, it's glorious
Tumblr media
Something something Silent Hill 3 (Gorgeous!)
Tumblr media
I try to play the mountain goat in every game and the absence of the jump button will not stop me
So I didn't take screenshots of the quite meaty gameplay surrounding getting Heidi back and figuring out what's going on, so here's some thoughts: - The updated crime scene investigation looks fantastic! The smokey green aesthetics are fitting and everything is much clearer than it was in CO. I like that we can see how many variations there are for each 'node'. The only thing I'm not sure about is the first person perspective - Sherlock's close focus mode - because I had trouble seeing what's different in the variations, and sometimes the models would push me back a little bit when they loaded. I'd move away from the node just by trying to see things and had trouble re-positioning... not a great deal of trouble, of course, but it is a downgrade from SHCO. I think the 3rd person mode like with Jon in CO works much better. This is my biggest criticism of the demo. - There was a tad too much running back and forth just to seemingly fetch a few items... this may be polished further, I don't know. It gave me old adventure game vibes where you kinda run back and forth for a few small things lol. - I wished we could use the items more directly and/or assemble things, not just have them as text in the inventory... but I understand that making a new puzzle feature may be too much work at this point - The "three clues" dialogue confused me for a moment, but so it did in CO as well so this may be a ‘me’ problem 😂 I keep forgetting that there are 3 different questions to answer, not that I need to present 3 accurate clues... hahah. - The darker overtones are soooo up my alley! When I figured out what had happened to one of the people in the casket... ooof anyway, time to find and assemble Heidi!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Him <3
Tumblr media
Awww, isn't it cute?
Tumblr media
BUT IT'S WRONG
Tumblr media
Oh so wrong 😂 I did NOTTTT expect this ahahahahhhh Hands down the best part of the demo The mental health aspect of the remake was what had me a little worried, but you know what, I think it's gonna be fine 😂 Heidi is one bad bench, and Sherlock just ACCEPTING he's now talking to a demonic doll and making the most of it is just chef's kiss Love, love, love. We're all mad here.
Tumblr media
I unlocked a reward, and what a sweet one it is! Sadly, you cannot change your clothes in the demo. The updated physics make his chain and bag go bouncing like crazy, haha.
Tumblr media
And thank
you
for reading! Feel free to send me an ask if you have any questions.
