Always feels good freeing up bobbins for other projects, this one was sitting as a half spun single for many months im so glad it's finished. I was really worried when plying with how the colours were lining up but it turned out beautiful.
Oh man it's so soft. Lowkey worried about the felting/pilling potential. Any recommendations for what I should do with it?
I'd like to introduce to everyone this horrid thing I created about a year ago but haven't shown many people yet (probably for the best).
This is Baby. AKA The Monster. AKA Sight Tremendous and Abhorred, AKA Vile Insect, AKA A Thing Such As Even Dante Could Not Have Conceived, etc, etc. It's made from bits of scrap fabric I scrounged from various sources and is roughly the size of a human toddler. Its design is based on Mary Shelly's original descriptions of Frankenstein's creature.
But that's not all! Behold!
You can dissect this little abomination to reveal a full set of crocheted, knitted, and scrap fabric organs, all hand-stitched by yours truly!
It has a heart, stomach, lungs, liver, small and large intestine, kidneys, bladder, and, of course, a brain! So it can ponder the horrors of its own existence!
I used this pattern by Less Than Three for the heart. I ended up felting it because I screwed up most of the stitches (I was relatively new to crochet at the time). The result was a bit of a blobby mess, but oh well.
So yeah. This thing lives in my house now (my family hates it). I have yet to reap the full consequences of my hubris.
You know at first I didn't believe it when fiber artists on tumblr would tell me to be wary of the fiber art slippery slope. And yet. I hear the siren call of the spindle. Fellow crafters help me resist. Tie me to the fucking mast. Please.
i have been working on this project on-and-off since May. finally finished, and i’m so proud of how it turned out!
another beautiful pattern by Crafty Intentions!
EDIT/UPDATE: For those who have asked before, I am taking ONE (1) commission slot for a shawl like this for 2023. If you are interested, feel free to DM me!
Posting the final product one more time because I’m so proud of it! Taught myself crochet this summer with YouTube, then spent all of this fall making Persian Tiles during my down time at work (there’s a lot). Sized it up from an afghan to a queen size because 1) go big or go home 2) worsted weight acrylic yarn is dead cheap. Learned a lot! Also talked to so many people who saw me working on it and told me their own stories about crochet- old projects of their own that fell to the wayside, the blanket their grandma made. I got inspired to make this after I saw the pattern online, then spotted a finished one at the fair in the crafts barn. Felt like full circle when someone else told me they felt inspired to pick the craft back up!
People who sell handspun yarn, how do you manage it when the profit margins are so razor thin?
I'm unable to work and money is tight so I've been considering how I can contribute financially and attempt to save up for the future but boy, things look lean.
If you sell your handspun, I'd love to hear from you either in my DMs or the replies/reblogs/tags because I have to make this work somehow...
Hey look it’s this thing you guys like a lot apparently, except now you can see it all
If u wanna help me get good measurements data for grading the pattern, then plsss fill out this google form, I need numbers from L-5XL people pls and thank u <3
Self-taught one work-in-progress at a time so that there’s some beginner stuff I don’t know and advanced stuff that I do know and I will forever be making silly beginner mistakes in complex projects that I’ll probably never complete :)
