A lot of my fellow Black and brown folks are finding it hard to accept that Black billionaires (including Mrs. Carter) are not gonna save us or the world.
From Zora Neale Hurston and Nina Simone to Muhammad Ali and Eartha Kitt and from Ava and Aja to Collin Kapernick there is a looong history of Black entertainers, artists, and athletes using their creative genius to nurture ancestral liberation, black freedom, and good trouble be it raising their voices through their craft or putting their bodies (and careers) on the frontline --- in part, because many of them were able to kove in white intellectual and political spaces as the exceptional, "extraordinary negroes."

"In a 1963 interview, civil rights leader Malcolm X discussed the pitfalls of pedestalizing Black celebrities in the Black community. In the interview, Malcolm X explained that unlike in the white community, in the Black community, people prop up Black celebrities when they are often nothing but puppets for the white establishment. Beyoncé and other celebrities must grapple with greater expectations of when and how they use their voice and must always deal with accusations that they are not doing enough with their power, privilege, and access. But those that assume the role of activist must be willing to use their voice, their art, and their influence to impact change."
If our creative Black billionaires were willing to risk their sponsorships, endorsements, and financial capital to move beyond the aesthetics of intellectual activism and actually help sustain lasting change . . . they would not be

So being from Jacksonville I know the Jaguars get a lot of shit for sucking but I have never been more proud of my hometown. The owner Shad Khan stood arms locked with his players and coaches in unity and solidarity during the national anthem. Some of the players kneeled but the entire team did something so powerful against a president who called Kapernick a "son of a bitch" for his peaceful protest. The same president who called LITERAL NAZIS "good men". This is the power of peaceful protest you piggly armed son of a bitch.

It’s been a sad week because people died, esp. a brave police officer,  when one of the great institutions of democracy was overrun in a coup attempt.  But it also exposed the hypocrisy of the Republicans and their orange leader.  These hypocrisies are now there to see like an open sore (in no particular order):
Support for law and order (vs encouraging a mob to invade the capitol complex)
Support for the flag. Remember Collin Kapernick who kneeled in protest and was blackballed from the NFL? Take note of the confederate flags and the tRump flags in the scene above.  There was a TV shot I saw of insurrectionists removing the US flag and installing a tRump flag in its place. Imagine the reaction if a BLM protestor had even taken down an American flag
Hypocrisy of BLM vs. Capitol event. No massive show of force for the capitol event. I want to say that 24 arrests total had been made the night after the insurrection. And, a good chunk of those were 6pm curfew violations of DC residents, maybe unaware of a curfew? Insurrectionists were free to leave the capitol after ransacking and taking selfies.
Right wing media’s attempt to paint the troublemakers as Antifa. 2 days later, that’s been totally debunked.
Those are what I can think of for now. I hope the pictures and images from the capitol attack lead this country to change ala, what happened after Americans saw violence, dogs and guns being trained on African Americans in the 60s. Other hypocrisies that are more general to the last 4 years (and not necessarily exposed on on Jan 6):
Support for sanctity of life (vs. too bad if you caught and died of covid! Gotta get the economy humming)
Family values (vs. separating children from parents at the border)
Respect of women (vs. countless incidents of grabbing, groping, demeaning comments of women..)
Racism and xenophobia. “all Mexicans are rapists”, “there were fine people on both sides, calling a U.S Senator Pocahontas)”
Respect for the military. Calling servicemembers and veterans “losers”. Not considering John McCain a hero because “he got caught.”

Posted this on Facebook, but wanted to share here as well.
Alright so I don't like to post politics on my Facebook for many reasons(and was hoping to post some cool personal updates), but I think I need to speak out on some things that i've been wanting to talk about for years(but have been afraid to do so due to antagonizing people that I am close with in my life). If you have time, please please read as i'm about to say some things i've been wanting to get out for years and i'm about to get real vulnerable here about some subJects that I can no longer be silent about......
The state of the world we are in right now is far too dangerous to ignore, and i'm sick and tired of people in my life who are defending Trump and who have no idea what's going on other than their own personal beliefs they get from Fox News. I'm going to hide this post from family and a bunch of people, but if you see this and are a huge Trump Supporter or something and disagree, we can have a civil debate in my messages, or feel free to remove me if you are going to be rude about it(or ignore it, like I probably usually do for you.) I simply don't have the time, energy, or resolve to get into a long argument, but it is what it is. Feel free to leave a comment though, Just be nice.
As the protests are going on now in Kenosha Wisconsin after the shooting of James Blake, a far-right militia member about an hour or so ago murdered 5 protesters. These protesters were not causing any damage or any problems, and I saw this as it was happening live on Periscope, no media spin attached.  As many other cities have done, they are fighting for the simple reason that Black Lives Matter, and enough is enough. I'm sick and tired of seeing new names being added to an ongoing list of innocent black lives being murdered. Breonna Taylor. Philandro Castille, Trevon Martin, George Floyd, Sandra Bland, and many more names. Seeing the video of what happened with James hit me even hard then George Floyd for some reason. Maybe it was the fact that gun-shots were featured idk. While I understand the convenient narrative being pushed that rioting is bad, as Martin Luther King Jr says "A riot is the language of the unheard".  Anyone who knows me knows I don't condone violence, as i'm a huge pacifist, and have even had this used against me in my life to take advantage of my kindness. However, who is really listening to black lives when they do try to speak out? Collin Kapernick sat down during the national anthem, he got criticized. So he changed to kneeling, still criticized.  People were(and still are in many instances) peacefully protesting, and many still aren't being heard. I'm studying Psychology as an Undergrad, and it makes sense that when people aren't being heard they tend to lash out and violence often ensues.  That's what tends to happen when your community constantly is having trauma inflicted on them.  I'm not condoning it, but maybe we should listen to people who have been trying to get our attention for years and do something to fix the root cause of this issue.
Most politicians on both sides don't care. Just like Trump didn't care when he's personally made decisions that affect either myself, many of my friends I have made both online and offline, as well as my basic sense of empathy for humanity.  A sampling of these actions include trying to remove DACA, eroding LGBT rights or attacking those in the LGBT community, Trans-Military Ban, Muslim Ban, promoting violence through his Twitter, ruining the mail system that many people rely on for basic needs, saying that there were "good people on both sides" in Charlottesville when Heather Hayer(a Bernie supporter) got run over by a car by Neo-Nazis, gaslighting anyone who disagrees with his views, among others.  It's not a political issue. I don't care if you support Republicans because you believe that "Socialism is a bad economic policy that would ruin our country" or something like that. I'm a Libertarian Socialist, but that's beside the point, vote for who you want. But when Trump systemically comes for my friends and attacks those I love and care about, I'm not going to stay silent.

Finally, this also ties into my religious faith. Growing up as a Christian, I grew up with the teachings of Jesus Christ and i'm sick and tired of so called "Christians" using their beliefs to try to Justify voting Trump, because they want "A conservative maJority on the Supreme Court" or are "Pro-Choice", or "Mike Pence is a strong Evangelical." Trump is the biggest con artist this country has ever had, and I can't believe so many people I love and care about are falling for this. He doesn't care about Evangelicals. He doesn't have love in his heart, and Jesus would probably be out there with the protesters right now fighting for Change. I had to fight with whether I was still a Christian for many years after graduating High School, due to seeing how so called "Christians" and people I love have so much hate in their heart. I have Just recently reconciled with the fact that there are many other Christians Just like me who want to do what's right. Innocent people are dying from Covid due to our president. He's trying to divide us up in order to win, as that's all he has left. I've been called not a "true Christian" due to my views(which is literally a logical fallacy by the way), and i've gotten so much hate from people due to being Bisexual, a Libertarian Socialist, and a Christian who is mostly alienated from those I grew up with. But idc anymore. I'm not arguing to vote for Biden at all, I personally don't like either candidate. But please, don't vote Donald Trump. I don't know what else to say, but seeing constant hate and divisiveness has really being causing some awful depression lately, and I needed to share.
I'm going back to bed, and then continue working on my Junior Year Psychology courses that I started Monday with UCF Online. I have known since 2017 I want to work in Mental Health, and we need/will need it more than ever. This post might have a lot of spelling and grammar errors, and normally I would spend time proofreading my post more. But it doesn't matter. Innocent people are dying every day, things like that are insignificant. Make sure you use your platform to do what you can to change the world. Silence is complicity. Black Lives Matter. LGBT lives matter. If you are also a Christian, please consider your actions and how they might be impacting those around you. Because for all you know they are absolutely heartbroken, and have reconsidered whether their morals are in line with the Christian faith. If I can share something as vulnerable as this publicly on Facebook(which could get me in huge trouble with my family), then you can put a little effort in to make some change. Register to vote by mail at vote.gov. Vote the day(or within a few days of) when it arrives, or early-vote/ drop it off to ensure it's counted. Finally, make sure to have these tough conversations with those you care about. Remember it's supposed to be uncomfortable, as creating change around you shouldn't be comfortable.  If you read all this, please stay safe, wear a mask, and consider how your actions affect those around you.

In solidarity,

Alex Morgan

Is Taking a Knee During The National Anthem a True Crisis?
Dear Tomi Lahren,
I saw your report for Fox 5 news and watched you discuss the problem you had with NFL players kneeling and asking them what are they kneeling for?  You also stated that the NFL commissioner Rodger Goodell is  “spineless and can’t stand up for the organization and can’t even stand up for the organization’s best interest.” The NFL ratings began to drop and that’s when you suggested continuing a boycott against the NFL by not watching it to hurt their rating witch would make their profits suffer. You then stated in a sarcastic manner that if they want equal rights then there should be more “Asians, whites, and female players in the NFL.
The protest was started by Collin Kapernick and he began kneeling as a protest for the social injustices in America but some took it as him disrespecting the troops which were never his intentions. In all actuality, the brave men and women in the armed forces put their lives on the line every day for US citizens to have privileges such as free speech. I’m curious to know why this protest caused such a problem? The declaration of Independence was signed on August 2, 1776, while people of color were in slavery. African Americans weren’t even considered citizens but property during this time. The National Anthem was created on September 14, 1814, and its lyrics discussed that America was land of the free and the home of the brave but that wasn't the case for minorities. African Americans were not free until  July 1865, so this did not pertain to us.
Ms. Lahren, you lack the understanding of your privilege as a caucasian woman. There have been countless times were people on social media have called you out to be a racist. Your response to those acquisitions probably consists of statements such as“ I was taught to treat everyone the same”, “I don’t see color”, “I don’t care if you are pink, purple, or polka-dotted”, or  “race doesn’t have any meaning to me.” These statements were in the book “White Fragility.” The book talked about how these statements are not the right way to think about color. You need to see color to understand the privileges and disadvantages it gives people. Just by being a minority, you are more prone to be racially profiled, receive longer sentences in jail, be followed in stores, stopped by the police, get turned down for loans and jobs. Ms. Lahren, you never had to worry about these things. People never clutched on to their pocketbooks when you came around as a result of fear that you will steal it, you never had to tell your child how to act when in contact with the police, or have to worry about wearing hoods or a durag because it will make you seem as if you are a “criminal,”  That's what these players were protesting about, their stand was against the oppression that they have been going through their whole life. All they are asking for is to be treated fairly which is not asking for a lot. Before you bash them for taking a stand look at the person in the mirror and ask yourself what would you do if the roles were reversed.

Nike Just Did That: Colin Kaepernick Ad Sends Stock Prices Through The Roof!
Nike Just Did That: Colin Kaepernick Ad Sends Stock Prices Through The Roof!
This is a game of chess, not checkers! It looks like #Nike’s choice to make Colin Kaepernick the star of their recent “Just Do It” campaign was a good move for the brand after all. The company’s stock prices reached $83.90 this afternoon- an all-time high for Nike.
Immediately following the release of the ad, Nike stock saw a 3% dip to less than $80 per share. “Stand-for-the-flag”…

FYI - i don’t like to wear a mask. But i will respect the recommendations of those who know more than me for the safety of those I love as well as those I don’t know. I will wear a mask if asked and carry one at all times just in case. I will wear one at work to protect my staff and give them peace of mind when they do an already challenging job. I will wear a mask for my 72 year old mom and 85 year old aunt. I will wear a mask for my friends who have ailments that i know about, and more importantly for those i don’t have resin to know about. I will wear a mask if it makes you more comfortable because being kind is way more important than standing on a false pedestal of principle. Why? Do you ask - Because I have never seen anyone protest over “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service”. In fact in my near 50 years of living - this sign has been everywhere. I also know that the same people who are acting out about their personal civil rights were the same people who, not all that long ago, who thought that “No Coloreds Allowed” was acceptable - didn’t worry about those human rights. These are the same people who thought that Collin Kapernick was wrong for protesting peacefully and publicly for what he believes to be civil injustices. A far cry from militantly and aggressively storming government buildings and threatening overthrow, while clearly implying physical and mortal violence. So, until you reconcile those facts for me - i can’t stand on your false premises of liberty & justice. I will stand on the side of compassion and patience and love for those around me. I will wear a mask for you. Not for me and that is what i believe every member of our armed forces who sacrificed his/her life showed us. My died for you. He didn’t ignore his responsibility to serve his country. And he certainly didn’t know that our government would put his life in jeopardy by using Agent Orange. He just thought of us all. This memorial day weekend I stand with those who sacrificed. So I’ll sacrifice a bit of my comfort for you! #memorialdayweekend #agentorangekilledmydad #civilrightswhenitsconvientisntcivil https://www.instagram.com/p/CAk2ccxHAN_Jw7HGGTDuT5NODA4Pe9UL4m8vxg0/?igshid=11dtu8b8nmrey

Social Media NFL
Over the last week or so I have noticed multiple trends over various social media platforms that have either had to deal with political, sports, and american issues. Something that I have mostly followed has been President Trumps posts about the NFL and their players kneeling for the national anthem.  To sum it up he is not happy with the players not respecting the anthem. Last week there was an apparent situation where Vice President Pence. He went to an Indianapolis Colts game and then left shortly after the anthem because of the players kneeling. President Trump would like all players who kneel to not be allowed to play. This is a weird situation because it is technically the players right to choose. In spite of this the Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is taking this into account with his team. There have been numerous posts regarding this issue and it all started with Collin Kapernick in San Francisco. Since then the amount of social media attention that this has brought has been overwhelming for all sides. Hopefully something changes soon to change this for the better for american citizens.

Defending an Honest American- Ilhan Omar (and the Entire “Squad”)
Tumblr media
*The following post was inspired by the segment pictured above. I wrote it before Trump’s tweet to “the squad” went viral and became a headline on nightly news, but the sentiments I sought to convey now seem equally if not more applicable.
By: Kaylee Williams
7/14/2019
Tucker Carlson and his co-conspirators on Fox News are not journalists. They are 21st century propaganda ministers. Do they have any moral standards, any bar they won’t cross in their insidious attempts to manipulate people fundamentally uneducated on matters of economics, government, and history (note that I’m not an elitist and I’m not demeaning people who lack a formal education; I’m referencing people’s laziness in pursuing diverse sources and questioning their own biases). The way in which this network utilizes reverse psychology and distorts the truth is repugnant….yet so many people believe it. It is a pervasive force in our society; even those who don’t watch Fox are impacted unwittingly by its reverberations and its distortion of the left to right political spectrum in Western politics. How many people realize that Obama was considered by some scholars to be a Rockefeller Republican or that in many European countries Bernie Sanders is moderately left of center?
What a paradox that a self-proclaimed Muslim would do a better job at representing Christianity than the fools and pharisees in the white house and on Fox News today. Ilhan Omar is a decent human being; one may not agree with her on matters of policy and that’s perfectly acceptable, but there is no denying that she is decent. She does not hate America. She cares for it enough to criticize it, to make it worthy of the sacrifices of our servicemen, and to ensure that its common people are not manipulated and exploited as they are by organizations like Fox.
These commentators stoke racial tensions delineating from chattel slavery, relying heavily on the myth that we live in some post- racial world. They do so somewhat brilliantly by perpetuating the narrative of 21st century Caucasian victim-hood and lamenting how liberals are obsessed with identity politics. Well perhaps we would not have to be proactive in protecting minority groups ( people of color, LGBT, immigrants, etc.) if they were not systemically discriminated against?
Fox contributors exploit economic vulnerabilities by perpetuating falsehoods about immigrants and welfare recipients to distract from the amalgamation of big money and government at the expense of the ordinary voter. Why do they so rarely, if ever, discuss changing markets, automation, technological innovation, trade, or corporate exploitation?
What I find most disturbing is how hosts seek to leverage people’s sense of morality and patriotism for political utility. This is evidenced by commentators’ use of words like infanticide (which is not sanctioned by law in America) and their fixation with Collin Kapernick and other black celebrities (like Beyonce and Lebron James) who attempt to use there influence in a positive way.
Those on Fox slandered Collin Kapernick on numerous occasions for what they perceived to be his disrespect towards the military. I intentionally watched Fox News the very night Trump held a rally slandering the DEAD John McCain, a former POW who when alive was told by Trump that “he was only a hero because he got captured”. Fox hosts made no mention of Trump’s remarks regarding the dead, former solider. Instead, they mocked Beto O'Rourke for allegedly claiming to eat dirt to gain regenerative powers.
Republicans, where was your outrage at your president? How would you have reacted if Obama spoke of a dead soldier in the way that Trump did? Do you truly revere the military or do you favor authoritarian leadership and the black and white morality that Trump provides- good guys VS. bad guys, us VS. them.
Many Republicans behave as though they hold some monopoly on reverence for America or military respect. Tulsi Gabbard was one of the first first female combat veterans and Pete Buttigieg served in Afghanistan- both of them Democrats who vehemently oppose Trump. Donald Trump used his privilege to garner a medical exemption from serving in Vietnam for alleged bone spurs.
Yes, some soldiers were offended by Kapernick’s protest; others argued that they fought for Kapernick’s very right to protest as he did. Moreover, what is the point of compulsory patriotism? It’s like a husband demanding that his wife say she love him, or else! Frankly, I am feeling less and less patriotic every time I am reminded that Donald Trump is our president.
While it’s embarrassing to admit, I am honestly losing sleep over this presidency, tossing and turning in bed in sheer disbelief that people I grew up respecting could condone this man. I just want to scream at half of my family and love ones: how don’t you see this? What is wrong with you? Are you morally deficient or politically illiterate? I may not have voted for Mitt Romeny or John McCain or George Bush, but I would still stand proud in their America. I wouldn’t be so overwhelmed with perplexity and disgust. We are center stage in some dystpoin novel and I can’t be the only one seeing it.
Trump condemns much of the free press as providing “fake news”. He gives accolades to Fox , however, a network that virtually never disparages him. Trump loves Sean Hannity specifically. They even share lawyers and phone calls…..anyone else spotting the journalist conflict of interest there? So, Mr. Trump, is real news only that which does not contradict you or challenge you in any way?
It is well documented that Trump was born into money and that his business dealings were veiled in corruption, yet he is hailed as a hero for the common man and expected to drain the swamp. Does he not embody the swamp himself?
Trump’s allies continue to venerate the Confederate flag and various Confederate monuments, in doing so subscribing to revisionist history. The Confederate flag is not a symbol of freedom and the Civil War was not fought over states’ rights. When people present this argument of states’ rights, I feel compelled to ask: “states’ rights to do what?” The southern economy was entirely reliant on slavery and many were upset at Lincoln’s desire to keep the lucrative enterprise from expanding westward as the nation grew. Yes, there were many nuances to the Civil War, as is the case with any major conflict. The fact remains, however, that all reputable historians (though not necessarily the first hit on a Google search) claim the Civil War was fought over slavery. The South’s cause was a shameful one. Perhaps a subset of soldiers were misguided, but the main thrust of the Confederates was to preserve slavery. Why would we venerate a flag or a monument which reminds us of this? I don’t even know what a Union flag looks like? Didn’t the Union win the war? Wasn’t their cause the one of enduring freedom?
Finally, we make higher education so expensive that many are deterred from pursuing it, and those who receive it are mocked for being liberally indoctrinated…. Beep …boop …beep…bop…. Sorry guys! My micro-chip was going off. It must have been planted by my communist college professor.
I can hear the subconscious thoughts of my naysayers: forget the fact that we are in a George Orwell novel. As the saying goes: “it’s the economy stupid!”
Excuse this interruption but: CORRELATION IS NOT CAUSATION!
Presidents don’t have as much to do with the economy as people believe, Trump’s policies do not indicate longevity of success, the fruits of this so-called booming economy are being appreciated largely by the rich, and the stability/upswing we are currently experiencing is at least partly attributable to Obama.
Economies are wildly complex, and while Trump’s deregulation spurred some initial activity, it’s long term health can’t be trusted in his hands. Trump supporters must stop using  misappropriated statistics  to confer legitimacy to a tyrant. He is an evil man ,and as alluded to above, has an entire network dedicated to legitimizing him, even if it means slandering honest and well-meaning public servants the likes of Ilhan Omar.
