Bitter Reunion
Lost Souls Summary: Merlin awakens early from his sleep. He decides that he doesn’t want to leaving anything to chance and kidnaps the young James Lake Jr. to began training his Trollhunter as early as possible.
Barbara is determined to hunt down the man who kidnapped her son. In her efforts to get her son back she finds a strange old radio that speaks to her in a woman’s voice. The radio leads her to an underground society of shapeshifters.
Mother and son meet again years later as strangers on opposing sides.

The Daylight armor was unnaturally light, yet it seemed to press down on Jim with the weight of a mountain. It felt wrong. Irreverent. Kanjigar was supposed to be wearing it not him. He tugged listlessly at his pauldrons.
“Come along,” Merlin huffed. “It’s best we take care of this quickly.”
He opened the oak door and started down the tunnel without pausing to look back. Jim hurried awkwardly after him. The clanking of the armor felt deafening in the caves. It was a relief when they exited out of the eerie green glow of the cave into the natural silver light of the half-moon.
“Now let’s see…” Merlin hummed.
He let his staff rest in the crook of his arm as he fished a dark vial of potion out of his bag and removed the stopper. He retrieved a grey piece of stone which he dropped into the vial followed by a glowing yellow crystal. He put the stopper back on, swished it around a few times and then smashed it on the ground where it dissolved into a green mist. After a moment or two the mist reformed into a vaguely hawklike form. It took off into the forest.
“Quickly now!”
Merlin and Jim followed.
It wasn’t more than five minutes before they came to a halt, the smokey bird circling above a pile of stones. A familiar scent reached Jim’s nostrils.
He rushed forward and fell to his knees by the pile. He sniffed and then opened his mouth slightly to better take in the scent. He smelled a strange chemical, human blood, plants and earth, but mostly he smelled Kanjigar. His heart clenched painfully.
Kanjigar was really dead…
A soft keening crept out of Jim’s throat.
Merlin came to a halt beside him. The light from staff cast a sickly glow over the crumbled stone.
“I shall gather his remains,” He said after a moment. “They must be returned to his kin.”
He planted his staff in the ground and opened his satchel.
Jim turned toward the wizard to say something, but a flicker of movement drew his gaze. He lifted his head and caught sight of a shadowy figure in the tree above them. The green light glinted off their knife.
Jim lunged forward, flinging Merlin to the side, and summoning Daylight to deflect the blow.
His opponent was bathed in the blue glow from the sword. They were human shaped: fully clad in dark armor with a ruff of black feathers around their shoulder and a yellow visor hiding their eyes.
“Step aside, Trollhunter,” A feminine voice said. “My business in with your master.”
She was after Merlin then. A jolt ran down Jim’s spine, raising his hair, and his heart beat faster.
“No,” He snarled.
He had just lost Kanjigar, he was not going to lose Merlin as well.
“I’ll kill you too then,” She stated.
Jim curled his lips back farther, fully baring his teeth, and lunged. His sword planted itself in a tree. His opponent dodged around him, sending a kick into his back. Jim stumbled and regained his footing. He spun around and saw she was heading toward Merlin.
The old wizard was in the process of sprinkling something on the remains. His back was to the fight.
Releasing Daylight, Jim crouched down onto all fours and sprung. His leap carried him effortlessly onto his foe, tackling her to the ground. He pinned her shoulders to keep her from moving.
A familiar smell reached his nose. Jim’s nostrils flared. Where had he…?
His grip on her arms loosened and in an instant a dagger was coming for his eyes. Jim reared back to avoid it and his opponent twisted out of his hold.
She came up in a crouch, a sword in one hand, the dagger in her other.
Jim growled softly. She was between him and Merlin, but her attention was on him. He had to get past her. He stood up slowly and flexed his hands. Daylight was a few feet to his left but if he went for it she would go after Merlin. Jumping at her unarmed would be risky though…
He moved sideways inching toward his sword while keeping his eyes on his opponent.
She took a step backward as he took one sideways then…
She turned and charged toward Merlin.
“Watch out!” Jim screamed.
He ripped Daylight out of the tree and ran after her. His pulse pounded in his ears. He wasn’t going to make it in time…
There was a flash of silver and a resounding clang. Jim saw with relief that there was a long thin, double-edged sword in Merlin’s hand. Kanjigar’s remains were nowhere to be seen. Their adversary jumped back.
It was two on one now.
“Who are you?” Merlin demanded.
There was a pause, as the figure’s head moved back and forth. Likely gauging her chances against the two of them.
“I am Nemesis,” She finally said, her visor facing toward Merlin. “I am Morgana’s chosen champion to bring about your downfall.”
Merlin’s face paled.
“Impossible! She’s locked away.”
Nemesis laughed. It was a cruel humorless sound.
“She is far too powerful. You knew when you did it that solution was temporary.”
She took a step back. Jim noticed that she was favoring her left side.
“I will meet you again. You will pay for your crimes in blood,” She promised. She turned toward Jim. “Be careful, Trollhunter, who you put your trust in. That bastard will stop at nothing to accomplish his goals.”
Nemesis turned and fled, disappearing into the dark shadows of the forest.
Jim growled and took a step forward, but Merlin stopped him.
“You’re not ready. There are things we must take care of before you can face one of Morgana’s followers.”
Jim sighed.
“Okay,” He said, but kept Daylight in his hand.
He sniffed the air, picking up more of Nemesis’ scent.
Jim stilled, hackles going up.
He realized why the scent was familiar. It was the human scent he had smelled on Kanjigar’s remains.

By the time Barbara made it back to her Janus Order apartment, she had just enough strength to lock the door, stagger to the bed, and shove some of the books off it before she collapsed. It felt like someone was stabbing her side with a pickax. Her head ached and every muscle in her body was screaming.
She should have returned home immediately after dealing with the Trollhunter instead of camping out to see who would come for the body.
Gingerly she tugged up her shirt as best she could without getting up. Her whole midsection was bruised. She prodded at her side and gasped as her vision whited out for a moment.
Barbara released her shirt and laid back again.
Lovely…
She was sure several of her ribs were at least cracked if not broken. On the bright side, now that she was actively using magic, she healed a lot quicker.
She would need to take her armer in to be repaired too.
What a headache.
Barbara lay there and tried to muster up the energy to at least get a pain killer. She really should start carrying some with her.
She closed her eyes.
…
When she opened them, the clock on her wall told her that two hours had passed.
Barbara struggled to sit up, stiff muscles protesting the movement.
“Ugh.”
She didn’t want to move but it would only get worse if she stayed there.
She made her way to the bathroom and swallowed down the strongest pain killer she had that wouldn’t leave her loopy, then staggered over to have a seat at the kitchen table. She glared at the wall tiredly before reaching in her bag an pulling out the dimensional orb. She wasn’t looking forward to paying back what she owed for it, but storage spells were tricky so she hadn’t dared attempt one on her own.
Inside the crystal orb Kanjigar’s blank stone eyes stared at her. She wondered briefly if the young troll she’d met was the one he had mentioned.
She quickly shoved the orb back in her bag.
The next scheduled meeting with the Underlord was tomorrow. She and Walt were to attend.
She hesitated at the thought of Walt.
It had been rough after she had learned what the Janus Order really did, but she had desperately needed someone to lean on, to learn from. Walt wasn’t trustworthy but he did care about her.
She would not have done as well as she had without him.
“…There is no honor among assassins,” She whispered.
A bitter chuckle escaped her.
He was a very good teacher. It was unfortunate for him.
Barbara ran her fingers over her sweaty hair and sighed. She would take a shower and try to get some rest. She needed to be looking her best. Tomorrow, if all went well, she would be receiving a promotion.

Ooooh in the too much child support au what's the sevens relationship with Leo? How do they feel about him being immortal? How do Jason and Annabeth feel about him being raised by Hera? (Also I agree I think people are a little to harsh with Hera, she she sucks sometimes but she's a god, they are all like that)

And Leo goes “thanks” because it’s a complement to him
Until Thalia mentions she thinks he’s shrewd cause he’s like a small mammal she’d like to drop kick
Cue Jason having to peel them apart from a fight.
Leo often picks up his mother’s worst habits- he’s petty, underhanded, pretty self serving, and a selective listener but Jason thinks he’s alright. And since the gods pulled away, Leo had to go to wilderness school solo and met Piper there, so they have that history and are friends.
Annabeth and Leo are very “I don’t fuck with you you don’t fuck with me” core to try to prevent them murdering each other.
Percy’s more annoyed that Hera is a more attentive godly parent than Poseidon lmao. But hey, at least someone cares about their kid, even if said kid is a surrogacy baby via fire.

To @thefantasmarex and other Cap adopts Kon AU enjoyers
I just thought something, Captain Marvel isn’t an inherited title. In the OG comics and still in a lot of later ones it’s specifically a chosen one thing, we know that with Billy, but his entire family is honorary members and titles passed between close friends and family specifically to share the power. Not pass it on.
Billy has 3 potential candidates for succession depending on canons; The original being BillBat from the 30th century, Power of Shazam’s CeCe Beck from the 90th century, and Tanist of the 853rd century in the DC 1,000,000 comics.

Only one is actually related to Billy, and that’s BillBat of earth, his distant descendant. CeCe is from Bindermann and Tanist is from Mercury, both having stumbled into the RoE some how and have no prior relation.
No one in the current Marvel family as they know it is supposed to usurp Billy or replace him, he’s supposed to take the Wizards mantle fully later on in life and wait until his successor is old enough to inherit his power. Billy has to live to see that day, weather it’s 1,000 or 7,000 or 83,000 years into the future, he has to make it to pass the torch to the next being Pure of Heart and Strong of Spirit.
There is no replacing Marvel in the modern day, no keeping his name alive till the next guy needed, Conner has no expected inheritance or standards if he’s taken in as a member of the Marvel family. He can be whatever he wants as long as he’s a good person, he could wear his symbol and call himself Junior or another Lieutenant Marvel but he doesn’t have to.
There has to be a Superman once Clark’s gone, he’s too much of a symbol to fade, he means too much. But in a way Marvel doesn’t, and it’s not something bad or sad in context.
Being Captain Marvel is always shown as a thankless and isolating job, but one that has to be done to keep ancient evils at bay and the balance of Magic in order. That’s why Billy takes the job as Wizard only when Shazam dies, magic needs a warden but he doesn’t want that job right away, when he takes it he chooses Freddy as a champion to be Captain Marvel but they aren’t Shazam, he is. That’s what separates the Wizards champion, which is what Billy is, from the gods champions that his family is.
Conner has no expectation in his family, not because he isn’t good enough or because of a flaw in his upbringing, but because of a highly selective criteria for a job no one really wants.

Monster Rome AU
I woke up to an overwhelming amount of ideas from y'all, and i love it.

I think i really like the minotaur grey idea, i keep mulling over other options for him and it just doesnt suit as well, gives me Ferdinand vibes, a mean looking huge monster of a creature, who just wants to sit under a tree and feel the breeze and get pets and love. Also then we can branch into the whole 'someone goes to slay him' story, Grey tries not to fight, cant help it to survive and ends up becoming feared when hes actually very docile, rince and repeat story line.
This is where plum comes in, I 1000% cant see her as anything other than a full blown godess, her energy, her demeanour, everything about her point to a deity. She is kind and calm and finds humans fun little things to intervene with, perhaps a little mischevious, somewhat of a trickster but never with harmful things, more just little pranks. She sees Grey is lonely and sad, and feels for the creature, perhaps she made him, perhaps she knows who did, and they didnt accoutn for his gentle heart. But she does. She sees he's stuck in a loop of vioence and needs to be freed, but she cant do it, she's got to send a champion to meddle.
Enter demigod peach, a very tired, very well trained fighter, who simply wishes for the same thing, peace and quiet. I'd like to think years of fighting and a slow aging process make her wise but worn out, totally burnt to the very end of her wick from fighting endless battles, perhaps even other gods messed with her to make her a champion to battle things she never wanted to fight. Almost a puppet in some game, she doesnt have any control of her choices, and its made her very jittery and uncertain in social settings, kind of a massive nervous introvert, despite her skill level.
She's been crushing on plum for ages, but thats a literal god, and Peach is just some little fragment of one, not even someone who'd catch her attentions. She gives up that attempt to win a shred of plum's attention without even starting, its destined to fail, shes a tired, worn out scarred and nervous person with nothing to offer, she knows that Plum's out of hr league, so much so she's not even playing the same sport. But when the goddess she looks so fondly towards asks her for a favour, to go and free the minotaur trapped away, she does it for once with a bit more enthusiasm, Plum asked kindly, she wasnt pushy or bossy like the others, and that gentle touch was enough to make Peach (dare she say it) eager to help.
At first theres a mix up, peach thinks "freed" meant kill, thats what shes known for, its why they ask her to perform such dangerous tasks so often, but she see's Grey sat somewhere quiet making something, he's intelligent, and kind, and curious, so she doesnt take out her sword. Grey's instinct after many years of being targeted is to lash out, but Peach doesnt retaliate, and he slowly realises this one is different. They become fast friends, he shows her all the things hes made in his isolation, he's actualy rather inventive, with a fine eye for craft.
The pair start to fight together, he swears his sword to her, and she's...a little taken back by this but fine, if he's sworn to help her he can leave his current location and prison, he's technically freed if her orders are to live and enjoy more. Besides, she too has travelled and worked alone for many years, maybe some company would be nice, especially company that likes the same stuff as she does. She finds he likes a good scratch on the neck, and doesn tmind her putting little briads in his hair. They have a petience for anything nature based, sitting and watching birds, or making cool carvings from wood, finding interesting rocks or spotting a deer out in the forests. It's like they were cut from the same cloth. Peach never got on with humans, and the gods were out of reach or if they did pay attention to her it was never for good reasons, always taking from her, and she only ever recieved trauma in return or a new scar, or a new level of fear and exhaustion. Other demigods like her often came off arrogant or entitled, they had more favour with the gods more often than not so they felt better than her. She never found her people, but maybe her person was a monster? A very kind one.
We also get to have some low key fun with a little monster fucking going on there. because why not, for the spicy side of this all. both of them are total outcasts, covered in battle damage, who find common ground in the soft touches and gentle moments. Things neither have much experince with.
plum becomes very fond of this little demigod whos done as shes asked and then some, how Peach had gone unseen for so long is a question she'll ask the other gods sometime, she cant even find out which god is her relative, its been redacted, no one will speak of her, as if Peach is taboo, and everything she came from is too. Perhaps she's some secret disgrace, or maybe an heir to something far bigger than she ever could have imagined. For a demigod she shows incredible strength and resilience, things that have killed others like her almost slide off her back. Whatever she is, wherever she came from, shes less human than others would like to say, and her lowley status despite this means theres certainly a secret to be found there, someones not telling the truth here. Plum would 100% dig for more on this strange little demigod, and start asking questions about her that get her called up by far more important gods who tell her to stop sniffing around, that Peach is a child of a disgraced match, nothing more, they do not speak of her. Plum doesnt believe it, shes too strong, holds no power amongst her own despite that, she should be high ranking, well renown, in a better position, and yet. Bottom of the pile, essentially thrown away. Plums got to know the truth.
Perhaps its a child of prophecy situation, but Peach is clueless, she just gets orders, and her and Grey go off to do the jobs. Plum gives them as much protection as she can, and at every point possible, spends time with them, theyre sweet and compelling, and she can sense Peach is totally nervous around her, its very sweet for someone so big and tough. Grey loves this god, he finds out she was the one that got him out, and becomes a big soft puppy of a monster with her, brings her little trinkets, makes her stuff, shares his stories which plum loves, all the while peach is quiet, more so than normal, polite and kind but very stoic, her personlaity reverts to how she behaves with all the other gods, theyre above her, she retreats in on herself, doesnt make eye contact, doesnt argue, doesnt express opinions, just shuts up and behaves. Plums nice but shes still a god, and peach has been subject to their wrath a few times too many to push her luck here. Shes simply happy that nothings gone wrong, and that Plums not quick to anger, her old crush on this woman gets shoved down and she just plays the part handed to her. Just some lowley half human who has no place to even look her way, that she gets to sit with someone so special is in itself a gift.
Grey doesnt seem to have the same fear peach does, nor the reserved behaviour, in fact he picks up when plum is around, gets excited and jolly, this is a kind lady and he likes her attention, wishes his dear friend would feel the same. Notices Peach just shuts down a lot, never brings it up, just tries to include her when this happens, not that it usually works.
Plum would get frustrtaed at her champions quiet behaviour, she's seen her without that mask on, when shes less tightly wound, and its so much nicer. she'd out right ask why she does that, peach dancing around the truth that she gets nervious around someone so pretty. Greys defo worked it out, hes not the best at social, but hes got a good eye for Peach now, teases her for it a lot.

this setup defo feels like it can retain that tired sad beaten down peach energy original Rome AU had, which i LOVED, shes always so emotionally durable, so like, i like to make her weaker, and more unnrved and unsettled, she'd not understand recieving affections, or kind gestures, or anythign other than orders.
i may toy with this a bit more if i get five!
Thank you everyone for the great ideas and notes and messages, its helped me feel like i can dip my toe back into this kind of an AU without being pooped on for it.

I found a way for Hau get away from Hala and go to Kalos
I imagine that Hala has to go away to other towns for Kahuna business or whatever. And since the “incident” he always takes Hau with him so he doesn’t run away back to Kalos or any other region. So now the two of them are in Hau’oli City
Hau is walking beside his grandfather when he sees something yellow and brown go behind the Malasada Shop. A plan instantly flashes in his mind and he stops Hala, asking him if he could go to the Malasada shop to get something to eat. Hala is probably very happy that his grandson is starting to go back to his old self, even if it’s just getting a food he enjoys. It’s the start of progress he tells himself
Hala tells Hau that he cannot stop for him to get his food as he has to go to the meeting very soon. Telling Hau to go to the building and sit in the waiting room until he’s done, asking him if he can do that for him, for his grandfather. And Hau reluctantly says yes
Going behind the shop he can see a tall patch of grass that’s rustling near the front, getting an empty pokeball ready he slowly parts the grass to find the Abra he saw earlier. Throwing the pokeball, it connects and makes three slow shakes before one final shake signals to Hau that the Abra has been caught. Making quick introductions, Hau tells Abra that he needs her help with teleporting away, it doesn’t have to be far, just to a different city or town and the very farthest is to another island. But he knows she to weak right now. So they make a deal, Hau helps her train to evolve and Abra, soon to be Kadabra, will teleport them away to wherever he needs to be
Diantha was nice to give him and Iris some acting lessons and tips when they asked how she can change her emotions quickly. Hopefully those lessons paid off, he’ll need to trick Hala into thinking he’s fine so he can be left alone again. Abra needs some training and time out of her pokeball, and once she evolves he’ll be long gone by the time Hala gets back home
Real quick tho damn Hau really be catching Abra with just one PokeBall huh what an icon hahaha

I can't help but think the "acting lessons" Diantha had taught them are actually manipulation tactics and I'm just hcmdjdj
Like for Hau and Iris maybe those are acting skills and lessons, acting requires lying for it to be believable, for it to sound real, but they should also be skilled enough to not slip lest they "break character" as Dia would tell them, and surprisingly enough, Hau's a very good actor
Putting on this mask of sadness to his grandfather, but replacing that w smth else na, a new face of healing, and after catching that Abra, after hatching that plan, well... How about showing those acting skills to his friends?
Elio and Gladion were happy that Hau was starting to be his normal self again, and he asked them if they could help him train this Abra he just found, ofc the two did question him why an Abra? And he smiled oh so sadly as he looked at the mom, "it's a psychic type, right? And.. well.. miss Diantha has her own psychic type as her strongest pokemon, I guess it's just a reminder of her." The other two decided not to argue w it, despite their different opinions of the Kalos Champion, they also know how much she means to Hau, and how he actually means to Diantha, so they ended up helping him
They trained almost a week, his Abra became strong, Hau got TMs for her too, teaching her Shadow Ball and even Dazzling Gleam, and by the end of their all out training, Abra finally evolved into a Kadabra, his own Psychic being strong enough to catch even Elio's Pokemon off guard. And he thanked his friends of course, he's one step closer to his plan thanks to them, and after that rigorous training, he and Kadabra left, w Hau saying that he also needs to be prepared for "psychic surges" too, as Diantha would say, since the Abra line is one of the strongest psychic pokemon out there, and Hau first hand knows how Dia suffered from those surges bc of her own Gardevoir and bc she didn't had anyone close to her that has peychic aces to help her back when she was young
And, not to say that was a lie, but it wasn't exactly the whole truth. Hau did meditate w his Kadabra, try to anyways, tried to calm his mind, and tried to calm Kadabra's mind too, so the two of em won't suffer if Kadabra had a sudden spike in her psychic powers. But Hau also trained it to Teleport him anywhere. At first, y'know, he asked her to teleport them back to his home at Iki Town, then to Kukui's school, then the League, until she can teleport him to another island.
It's all going well, he thinks, but he knows for Kadabra to be able to actually teleport him to a different region, she should really be capable enough, so he asked one of his friends for another favour, to help him evolve Kadabra to Alakazam
I wanna say that the Link Cable does exist,,, but y'know, to highlight Hau's acting skills hahaha and hey, Gladion was happy to help him out, but they had to battle for it first, and after beating Gladion, well, yeah, they intimated the trade. One of my favorite things right now is that in my (still unnamed) Empires SMP fic wip, Alinar is going to be in it as his own person, Scott is not his reincarnation, they’re both just parts of the cycle of Aeor and Exor’s champions
But I’m not going to write him like he’s stuck up, or like he’s super wise, or old-timey-even-by-elf-standards or anything
Instead I’m planning on writing him like he’s the weird, nosy, probably-gets-high-sometimes-but-nobody-says-anything-about-it, cousin, who also somehow is the only one in the room with common sense and also gives some pretty banger advise, but he says it in a way that makes you wanna cringe so bad because oh Aeor why did you have to word it like that please never say anything else ever
Anyways, I’m having fun with thinking about this au a lot! (Ignore that I have less than a page actually written)
Also if you’re wondering how Aeor will actually show up even though he’s been dead for centuries. I’m thinking of him kinda just showing up in Scott’s dreams occasionally to give him advice, like how Aang can talk to the past avatars by meditating (I think I’m getting that right, I haven’t watched the show in forever), but instead of Scott going “Hey can I ask for advise?” Like Aang, It’s just Scott going to bed and then suddenly being in a dream with Alinar, and Alinar immediately giving unasked for advise, but it’s always good advise somehow, and Scott kinda wishes it wasn’t. Well… except for at the start of Scott’s rule over Rivendell. There were several times Alinar told Scott to just stab/duel with his asshole councilmen
Basically- Scott, newly king: Ah! After a long day of ruling my kingdom and arguing with my council, I can finally go to sleep. 😴 Alinar: You should challenge those cowards to a fist-fight at dawn. Scott: Wh-What?? But that would be violent!! Alinar: Exactly!

In Lost Souls, Jim is barely able to read and write English (he can read more than he can write).
This is because he was six when he was kidnapped by Merlin, so he had just started learning. Kanjigar knows how to read a tiny bit written English (mostly used to sound out the human names of places) and cannot write it. He did pick up some picture books for Jim back when he was little though (Which is the only reason Jim remembers as much as he does). Merlin had no interest in teaching Jim written modern English since none of his scrolls or books use it.
Jim is however able to read and write fluently in Latin and Trollish and knows a little of some other archaic languages.

In the minecraft universe, I imagine being name champion does offer you some protection from other gods. Anything they do to the champion means they have to deal their god.
Wilbur is not that scary but given his mom is the Goddess of Death, he can call her.

i don’t think inq!hawke would encourage dorian to talk things out with his father directly, but they might ask him if he’s sure he wants to leave it this way after they argue, while leaving it entirely up to him as to what he wants to do about it.
