If changeling!Toby and the Barbara and Jim of Lost Souls were to all exist in the same universe, how would you see that playing out?
This is a hard one.
Basically, Toby was just coming to trust the Lakes and care for them at the time that Jim was kidnapped.
For human!Toby in the cannon Lost Souls AU this loss resulted in him becoming a bit withdrawn and afraid to form attachments. For changeling!Toby the result would be similar except, as he is already playing a role, he simply leans more into it. He ends up becoming a decently popular kid but he isn't actually close to anyone. (He isn't willing to try trusting again.) He would get along a lot better with Strickler in this AU as he is acting more like the ideal changeling. (He still is skeptical of the Janus Order goals but he's taking the path of least resistance. He's working on some fallout plans for himself in case Gunmar isn't quite as thankful to the changelings as they're expecting. Which he suspects will be the case.)
Toby doesn't find out about Barbara and vice versa for a long time because Barbara is generally working within the Janus Order Headquarters and wears her armor when she's out and about.
Toby knows that Morgana has a champion but not who she is. Toby is simply too low ranking for Barbara to know about.
Toby does try to find out what happened to Jim with little luck. He knows that magic is involved but isn't able to get any further. He reported the incident to Strickler in hopes that it would be interesting enough for someone with more information clearance to look into it, but it never happened.
When Darci tells him about Merlin he passes it on to Strickler and tries to discourage her from looking into it more. She still maintains an interest in magic. Toby keeps tabs on her just in case she finds something.
By the present timeline Toby has for the most part moved on from Jim. The only people he really cares about are his Nana and the goblins.
Toby would end up being in charge of the goblins much sooner in this timeline. He would meet Barbara then. It would be unpleasant for both of them. Toby because it reinforces his belief that there's really no one you can trust or rely on, and Barbara both because Nancy's house cannot be a safe place for her and just the fact that someone that close to her has been affected by the Janus Order.
In conclusion: Barbara's reformation would be much tougher without Nancy's support. Toby would be officially Janus Order, but open to exchanging favors with the other sides. (Not Merlin though.)

a thought: angor rot had his sense of empathy stripped away by the loss of his soul, but that wasn’t what made him Evil, or made him not give a shit about the well-being of other people.
it was that going against his affective (knee-jerk) empathy (mostly for his animals) in order to do the right thing–saving his village–cost him and others dearly, while not only doing absolutely no good whatsoever, but making things a thousand times worse. cognitive empathy (doing the right thing and caring about others’ wellbeing for their own sake, out of real altruism, regardless of your own emotions) did jack shit to help (not to mention that, under morgana’s control, he literally could not act on it anymore), and affective empathy went straight out the window with his soul, so as far as he was concerned, why care? even when he eventually has an opportunity, he knows better than to try. so fuck it, why not at least do what makes him feel better, and (in the short term) eases his suffering?
angor rot’s evil comes, at the root of it, from learned helplessness.
which is why the conclusion of his arc came so, so close to being a great one. his bursts of affective empathy throughout the season after getting his soul back soften him up a bit, but they’re not enough to stop him from doing evil things with sadistic relish. it’s seeing jim’s sacrifice in order to do the right thing–his cognitive empathy--actually make a difference, and being held accountable to do the same, being TOLD that he can do the same, that finally changes his mind.
altruism doesn’t make everything worse. altruism matters. altruism can work. this is what he learns from jim, enemies or not. and it’s very telling that the moment this clicks for him he throws himself right into it, to the point of sacrificing his own life for the people he’d formerly hated and wanted dead with every ounce of his heart.
it’s frustrating as hell that i highly doubt this is what the creators intended, or that they thought it through this much. especially with the heaps and heaps and heaps of really awful, explicit, often violent victim-blaming that gets piled on him by both the show and the books. but it’s what i choose to take away from it, and it’s why i love angor rot so much, thanks for coming to my ted talk

In Lost Souls, Jim is barely able to read and write English (he can read more than he can write).
This is because he was six when he was kidnapped by Merlin, so he had just started learning. Kanjigar knows how to read a tiny bit written English (mostly used to sound out the human names of places) and cannot write it. He did pick up some picture books for Jim back when he was little though (Which is the only reason Jim remembers as much as he does). Merlin had no interest in teaching Jim written modern English since none of his scrolls or books use it.
Jim is however able to read and write fluently in Latin and Trollish and knows a little of some other archaic languages.

For the sake of this poll we are going to ignore the fact that they were speaking English in Camelot (We'll chalk that up to wibbly-wobbly timey-wimy... stuff).

You know it never occurred to me that the Darklands might have been nice at some point. That's actually really cool to try to imagine.
In episode four Blinky talks the troll and human worlds being separate and linked by bridges. I wonder if there are other passages to the Darklands besides the Killahead bridge or are there other bridge accessible troll realms.
Alternately what if the Darklands are actually as big as the Earth (a flipside of the human realm if you will) and there are still areas that are uncorrupted. (In that case Arcadia just so happens to be right above where Gunmar's lands are.)
Random ToA Headcanons: Darklands
Trolls as a species are native to the Darklands, and said lands were not always the desolate horror-laden labyrinth we see in the show–that was a result of Gunmar and his corruption. The realm may also have been called something different pre-Gunmar.
It was possible to pass between the Darklands and the surface lands via bridge portals like Killahead, but for the most part the trolls stuck to their own realm…until, that is, they discovered resources on the surface lands that weren’t available in the Darklands, which of course eventually lead to the initial troll/human war that rotted the Heartstone and produced Gunmar in the first place.
There is also no naturally-occurring UV radiation in the Darklands, hence the fatal sensitivity trolls have to sunlight. There are a few sparse patches of territory where bits of sunlight filter through from the surface lands; most trolls avoided such places because of how treacherous the UV was to them, but a select few types actually thrived there, most notably Stalklings–hence Stalklings being uniquely “immune” to sunlight.
All trolls have the capacity for bioluminescence, something that was much more frequently utilized when they still lived primarily in the Darklands. After the corruption of the Darklands and the subsequent mass migration to the surface lands, bioluminescence became less important and most trolls have essentially forgotten how to activate it, save for a few particular communities where it is still culturally significant, such as the Krubera and the volcano trolls. With a sufficient trigger, however, the ability can still manifest in any troll of any type.
Sadly this is one of the troll abilities Jim is not privy to–trolls need to be carved for their bioluminescence to show, and Jim’s skin is still too human to be properly carved.

Well, he didn’t lie. Except about having babysat before.
Unless “yeah, yeah, no” is ambiguous enough to be interpreted as a negative.
Also, he remembers Bagdwella’s offhand insult. Was he dwelling on it the whole time?

So thinking about the fact that Steve fought Bular at Killahead and I would like to propose:
AU where the Creepslayerz is formed in the first season of Trollhunters.
Steve and Eli encounter Bular and he recognizes Steve. Bular is now out to get Steve under the misconception that he's some sort of ancient warrior/wizard champion. When Steve keeps running away he assumes that the human is mocking him by refusing to fight. Meanwhile Steve would really like to know just what he did to tick off Mr. Dark and Dangerous so badly.

Changling Loyalties: Background note on Toby's age and changeling development in general.
In changeling Loyalties Toby is 397 years old. (He doesn't know that though.) If he were a regular troll he would be the human equivalent of about 25.
He was kidnapped and changed at 62 years old (human development equivalent of almost 4 years old). He doesn't remember anything from before that because the changing process destroys all the whelps' memories. Even if it didn't he would still not have remembered much due to being so young.
He spent 320 years in the Darklands before being planted on the surface.
Changeling age relative to humans is tricky because trolls, while aging at a rate of approximately 16 to 1, are not exactly equivalent. An adolescent with a couple centuries of life experience is very different than one with only a little over a decade. On the flip side, due the troll community being so insular, a human adolescent often will have more variety of life experiences than a troll one.
Back to changelings: adding to the mess that is troll vs human aging is the fact that they're trapped in a child's body for a few centuries fighting for their lives. It's a tricky thing because the physical brain changes that go with growing up are not occurring due to the age freeze, but the young changeling is still learning and gaining experience.
Then after all that they're given the infant body of another species and all the emotions, hormones, and chemicals that involves...
So yeah changelings are a mess.
