Watch "His name is EDWARD?! #winniethepooh #poohbear #nostalgia #shorts" on YouTube
You hear that?
Listen closely.
That was the sound of millions of outraged Canadians.
No, he's not called Winnie because it's short for Edward. He's called Winnie because it was the name of a bear at the London Zoo called Winnie. Her name was short for Winnipeg, which is where the soldier who saved her from a trapper was from.

NaClYoHo Days 11 & 12
First, a little bit on Canadian tradition! Saturday was Remembrance Day here in Canada, which is a big part of our culture for many Canadians. I'm not sure if it's the same in the US or other areas, but the tradition for many people here is to don a poppy (a reference to the poem WWI poem "In Flander's Fields" by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae) and attend a ceremony.
It's a day for solemn remembrance for dead soldiers and civilians from world wars I and II, gratitude for our safety and distance from major conflict in Canada, and a reminder to do our best to be champions of peace.
This holiday is a difficult one for me: I appreciate the focus on sustaining peace, but Canada's actions aren't always in line with its words. Additionally, the focus on past conflict in European nations often leaves ongoing wars and war crimes in other areas (Gaza for example) and Canada's failure to act to prevent and end ongoing conflicts unaddressed.
The ceremony we attended was well done and opened with a land acknowledgement and prayer in thanks to the creator by the representative of a local First Nations group, which was beautifully done. After an hour outside at the ceremony, I was wiped out for the rest of the day and all day on the 12th, so it was just dishes and laundry those days. But I did manage to change the bedsheets and clean our bird's cage, so that was a big win.

Where do I even begin? I'm appalled. The Canadian government living up to its roots in colonial-settler violence... this is beyond criminal. Contact your MP's. This erasure and anti-Palestinian racism is unacceptable.

MULTI-PLATINUM ARTIST  TYLER SHAW RELEASES NEW SINGLE  BACK TO ME
Tumblr media
Today, multi-platinum artist, music producer, and actor Tyler Shaw releases his brand new single “Back to Me.”
The track, co-written by Tyler, Sam Arion (Alessia Cara, Fefe Dobson), Zubin Thakkar (Shawn Mendes), and Stefan Babcock (PUP), is a lush ballad that showcases Tyler’s soaring vocals and a singular, heartfelt message.
“Back to Me” arrives just in time to offer up hope in the midst of what can be a dark month for many. Tyler sings about hurt and heartache, being “miles away from livin’ the life that I had wanted.” But there is always hope: “in the end it made me who I am.” “Back to Me” is a beacon of light and a way forward toward peace, love, and your true self.
For Tyler, “Back to Me” is deeply felt and experienced. “I know what it is to be in darkness, to stretch myself, to feel hopeless. And I’ve been fortunate to have the experience of doing the work and feeling the love of friends and family to move through that and into something that is a bit more peaceful. I’m still a work in progress, but I’m grateful every day for the experiences that shaped me and brought me to where I am today.”
“Back to Me” is Tyler’s first release of 2024, setting the stage for a string of new releases on the horizon from the prolific artist, who continues to evolve and grow and is one of Canada’s most accomplished songwriters. Stay tuned for more from Tyler Shaw.

You can see the French roots of Canadian cuisine, this is clearly a play on escargot; adapted to the local wildlife, instead of importing potentially invasive species for food

Bars that offer only alcohol-free options have opened in Kelowna and Metro Vancouver, as they hope to stir up the province's drinks scene with a dry twist. Bevees in Port Coquitlam and Sobar in Kelowna believe they are the first "sober bars" in British Columbia, with both promising a sophisticated, inclusive bar atmosphere without the expectation — or, indeed, option — to drink alcohol. "They're [for] the people who want to enjoy Sunday morning as much as Saturday night," said Hanna Spinelli, co-owner of Sobar, which opened in downtown Kelowna on Friday. It joins a list of sober bars that have popped up around the world, including in Toronto, as demand for non-alcoholic beers, wines, spirits and pre-mixed cocktails skyrockets.

Canada has never allowed Palestine to be listed as the country of birth for anyone born after 1948 because Palestine is not technically a country, but these passports still list the Palestinian city they were born in. This information is on Wikipedia (the Canadian Passport article, under the Place of Birth section) and sourced with the actual country policy. It sucks, but it is not a new stance Canada is taking, and it is not a conspiracy.
I can’t speak to what bureaucratic failing is happening to this person’s grandmother, but it’s unlikely there will be substantial mainstream coverage because nothing has actually changed.
Maintaining focus on the reality of the genocide taking place is vitally important for collectively taking action in effective manners, so please take this in good faith.
Thank you for the information. I just want to be clear I never stated it was a conspiracy, nor did that creator or folks who were pointing it out over on twitter. The erasure, especially now that I know it happened after the Nakba of 1948 is further evidence of Palestinian erasure and cultural genocide by another settler-colonial country.
I don't know if there will be a follow up about her grandmother, but I will update if there is something more to share. I also didn't know this had deeper roots, but these are the articles referenced in the wikipedia page.
This is quite disturbing, considering how long this has been implemented and normalized. Saying any Palestinian person can't list their birthplace is beyond inhumane and cruel. I can see why there is no coverage on this -because that's how it has been for well over a decade and more.
The post wasn't meant to deflect from current events -that was not my intention either. While this is still important to talk about, I haven't stopped talking about what is going on right now. I posted about this because it was something I was unaware of and I'm sure many of us were as well. I will attach this to the original post I made for more context.

Okay so. We were driving on the freeway home. A two lane road out of the mountains. There was a truck camped out in the left lane, pacing the van in the right lane.
Now common courtesy is that you use the left lane to pass and move right when there’s a car behind you because it means they’re going faster than you.
But this truck. Had a line of seven cars backed up in the left lane, all stymied by this blockade. The right lane backed up too, all because this truck wouldn’t move over. He was dedicated too, braking when the van did to keep them level and keep any cars from getting passed. This went on for over ten miles to much honking and frustration.
When the van finally broke free and traffic was able to move through we saw that the asshole truck was a company truck. So….
Edit to clarify: I cannot call the company, it’s international, and there’s no business email.

CCS's was the next step in the evacuation chain situated several miles behind the front line, usually near railway lines and waterways, so that the wounded could be evacuated easily to base hospitals.
