HEY NOW...

aw thanks anon!! i did post my gif resources a while ago but i can post an updated one of these soon and include some psds! my gifs really aren't that good tho anon — if i'm being honest, i don't really spend that much time on colouring like i could — so if you can find someone PROPERLY good (usually a film/tv blog, as you can imagine) they may have really expert tips 🤔

as someone who has been at the ugliest end of reddit & discord tv/britcom fans' trolldom (too nice a word, really), and lived through the fucking unending years-long era of that one incel's rule over the panel show subreddit, i understand the reticence to participate in those spaces — even though, these days, they're mostly pleasant enough and subs that supply downloads (tv_bunny is life) are more or less transactional. that said, the purpose of this blog has always been to service the people who can't or don't torrent — who a lot of reddit & discord tv/britcom fans don't have the patience for, but i digress — so it doesn't bother me that a lot of my followers don't know reddit as well as i do. no worries!

omg! recently i watched after life (i love kerry godliman!!!!!!!), dara ó briain's new special, and i've also been doing my biannual re-listen of the entire horne section podcast because it is so fucking impeccable chef's kiss! i was catching up on guessable but it's really, deeply, truly mid, so i kinda gave up for a while and switched over to breeders (martin freeman agenda continues). otherwise non-panel show things, some films like close, return to dust, un beau matin, etc. — but that's for my main hehe i'm someone who wishes i could watch 10000 things in one day T_T

hahaha i do get asked this a lot!!! like you there's just so. many. and i often chicken out of substantially answering this because if i forget anyone i'll kick myself SO hard later

i don't think there are many people i vehemently do not want to see on the show. while there are of course a few comedians i just don't like, and if taskmaster puts another tory politician on the panel again i'll fucking write in with my upset, the disappointment i typically feel if and when i see a new lineup is more along the lines of "meh they're fine but they took the place of someone i'd much rather see". but tm is also so good at introducing us to people we may not have seen much of before — and then we love them, so i trust the producers and alex a lot!

Takeru Segawa (世川武尊) K1 Career Highlights & Knockouts

Takeru took a full year off from the sport following his lost to Tenshin in The Match (tm) in June of 2022. Outside of an exhibition, we haven't seen him in the ring. But he's been busy setting up his post K-1 career. No longer bound to the promotion, Takeru has since signed a big deal with ABEMA that will see him earning $750,000 a fight. And on top of that, he has signed a contract with ONE Championship making a fight with Rodtang not only tangible but perhaps inevitable.

But first, Takeru is set to return this Saturday (June 24) as he is going to France to fight for promotion Muay Thai Grand Prix. Takeru will headline MTGP Impact in Paris as he is set to face Bailey Sugden.

well i mean i keep forgetting wayne's name so in my head usually he's just... detective bailey (or bailey bailey lmao)

but!!! i assume that richie (as said in the post you've reblogged) took his mother's maiden name of kirsch when doing his indie film stuff because he's an Artist(TM)

because it wouldn't be possible for kirsch to be wayne's surname what with him being a seasoned detective in nyc. so.. yeah that's my take. bailey is the married name, kirsch is the late mother's maiden name that richie took because it's more Artsy(TM)

late christmas 1:45am boxing day headcanon : eliza ADORES christmas movies of all sorts. love actually is one of the few romantic films she genuinely loves and can watch over & over without fail and she ALWAYS cries during it’s a wonderful life. she saw it a couple of times when she was TEENY TINY and couldn’t really remember it , then a couple of christmases ago she went to an open - air screening with a friend for a laugh ( and am excuse to sit in the street drinking wine after dark in early december ). loved EVERY MOMENT OF IT from start to finish and burst into tears when it turned out george bailey was deaf in the same ear as her. now she watches it literally as often as she can even half justify , generally the year’s first viewing being somewhere around late october ( or as a post - halloween hangover cure if she makes it that long ).

OCTOBER! I started university that month and met my current boyfriend, I met so many of my friends now and came out of my shell essentially. it was Wild but I loved it so much

18. A memorable meal this year?

I have quite a few, including the post isolation meal my bf made (including a fancy baileys parfait 👀), microwave pierogi with friends, but mostly cooking with my sister during lockdown! what stands out is probably our cauliflower + potato curries <3

20. What’s something you learned this year?

I should be my no. 1 priority and for me that means putting myself out there but also knowing I need to step back. I like what I like, I am who I am, I believe what I believe and I should accept that as part of my identity rather than shying away! honestly abandoning a lot of my shame changed everything for me, even if it's definitely not all gone, because it really interfered with my social life and more importantly how I saw and expressed myself. now I'm known as being confident hot girl TM because I let myself become that and I'm super happy about that hehe

Talks Machina Highlights - Critical Role C2E55

This week’s guests are Laura Bailey and Taliesin Jaffe! This week’s theme: leaning hard into the post-con tired. This week’s conspiracy: beards. Why? How? WHEN?!

Announcements: General Admission tickets for Gen Con on August 2nd go on sale tomorrow at 10 AM Eastern Time! Everyone was really blown away by the love at ECCC (over 200 people were at one of the CR cosplay meetups!). Kickstarter update: with 30 days left in the campaign, over $7.6m has been raised thus far. If the next stretch goal is hit, there will be an entire 10-episode series. Brian and Laura also know Ashley’s idea for a one-shot and he’s excited to see it happen.

There will be no episode on Thursday, March 28th and no TM on the following Tuesday due to family commitments and half the cast being out of town.

Without further ado, it’s time to discuss Episode 55: Duplicity!

This episode sets the campaign 2 record for most player d20 rolls at 211. 230 was the record number of d20 rolls in campaign 1, in episode 114. 752 damage was dealt by the Mighty Nein, 280 of which was against each other. Jester and Caduceus both dealt 44 damage, none of which was friendly fire. By the end of the episode, the M9 had 8 spell slots left among them (of 45 total).

Taliesin’s reaction to last episode: “Maaaan. Ow. That hurt.”

For Clay, Taliesin only keeps notes for things he thinks he’d pay attention to. He occasionally peeks at Laura’s notes, mostly for entertainment value. Sam has the most detailed notes at that table right now.

Laura’s strong reaction to Caleb going bad was partly Laura just “giving Liam a lot of shit, because we’re actually siblings,” but this kind of betrayal was also a new experience for Jester.

Are they feeling betrayed by the M9? Taliesin: “Nah, he had siblings, man. He’s fine.” Laura: “Jester does not have siblings. She was pretty distraught about Caleb doing that.”

“This doll definitely comes alive at night.”

There is a very strange puppet show with Laura playing Caleb and Taliesin playing Jester until they decide it maybe makes more sense to swap.

Taliesin’s first thought with the explosive arrow was “Fuck, that’s expensive.” He knew Jester had the spell slot and he knew Clay would be okay. “That was not dumb. It would’ve been worse to be at the mercy of that creature there for a moment. I was toast no matter what. Better to do that there so we could get it in right away.” Laura points out that Sam had the explosive arrow prepped for that action regardless.

Jester is “definitely fighting the fear that she faces during battles now, because she feels mortal,” especially after seeing Caduceus fall. But at the same time, she is “at her core, a protector, both physically and emotionally, of people.”

Laura points out that she doesn’t heal in battle as much because she knows that she won’t be able to overcome the damage enemies are doing; it makes more sense to save lower-level spell slots to bring people back from unconsciousness than to heal people who are nearly down.

Gif of the Week: an extensive (and amazing) dice fail compilation!

Taliesin: “Oh man, that vision from the Wildmother was really good. That was Matt just giving me a big hug for everything that happened.” He’s excited to see some backstory hints there. “This is not what rattles him. Other things rattle him.” He’s of the opinion that grave clerics have probably been pushed to this place in ceremony a few times before.

Jester feels good about the revivify spell, but it’s also made the power of her abilities feel a lot more real. “Healing’s always second for her.”

Clay’s death experience was mainly just significant to him because it involved the Wildmother basically giving him a thumbs-up. “He definitely has a philosophy on the notion of destiny that’s very specific.” Taliesin’s excited to see how Caduceus will act if and when siblings show up. “I think he’s a trash fire. I don’t think this is the Caduceus you get when his siblings are around.”

Laura mentions the blood lust that comes up whenever Matt mentions that a baddie is “looking pretty rough”; it tends to make it tough to concentrate on anything else.

Fan Art of the Week: the revivify spell and Caduceus’ vision.

Jester’s bravery pre-dragon came from naiveté. Now it comes from love, and the people she surrounds herself with. “It’s like she’s trying to find the bravery herself.”

A question points out that Percy’s inventions indirectly led to Nott firing that explosive arrow... and hence he was somewhat responsible for killing his own character. “This is literally what the character was intended to do. This is literally what Percy was invented to do.” He absolutely thought last campaign that he may be killing a future character with his actions as Percy.

“Jester believes in the other gods. She just thinks that the Traveler is way cooler than any of them.” In her mind, the Wildmother has the same sort of relationship with Clay as she does with the Traveler. That’s why she immediately took the “go get his mom, he needs help” approach with her plea to the Traveler.

Is Caduceus holding a grudge against Nott? “I think there’ll be a little bit of a ‘hey, little buddy, be a little more careful there going forward’ talk.” But things happen.

Jester has had a bit of a “Fuck, I should have been there for Molly, too” reaction after the revivify.

In Clay’s mind, fiends are slightly better than the undead. “They’re better, but they don’t belong here. It’s like having an infestation in your home.”

“In retrospect, Nugget really should’ve stayed with Momma a little longer.” Sprinkle’s well-protected. “That’s how I’m saying Sprinkle is not dead.”

Taliesin has really been enjoying his first experience as a cleric. "There’s a lot of satisfaction to looking Matt in the eye and ruining something he’s been working on.”

Taliesin and Laura felt like they didn’t miss a beat going back to Vex/Percy: “Fuckin’ power couple, man.”

Laura had no recollection of the joke about Percy losing his arm in the original episode and was extremely confused. Taliesin honestly didn’t believe Matt was going to do it, but he respects Sam’s commitment to the bit.

The Golden Snitch actually got stolen at some point when Matt’s car got broken into. Taliesin now has an Anti-Snitch that’s been working pretty well.

There’s some ideas thrown around about what to do with Percy’s arm. Some sort of greeter/wacky inflatable tube guy is the general consensus.

Jester is Fine (spoiler she’s not)

aka my long ass Thing about Jester and her upbringing and also why I have so many feelings about her tendency to suppress negative emotions and IDK I JUST WANTED TO WRITE THIS SINCE HER BACKSTORY REVEAL IN EPISODE 8 LET ME LIVE.

Disclaimers: Im not entirely caught up yet but I know the primary plot points and bigger convos (thanks tumblr lov u). Neccesary spoilers will be tagged as I go down the post. Mostly spoils for ep 8? And I guess their Activity post blue dragon.

part 1 because whoops this got looong.

Okay, so we start at the beginning, at the very first backstory drop; because, Jester was the first person to give up her backstory, in its relative whole. Which makes sense! Right? Its not like she has anything to /hide/. Because everything about her childhood was Fine. Great! actually, great, super great. Her mom loved her! So much! and she got an awesome room and got to play pranks on people and had the COOLEST BEST FRIEND EVER who taught her how to play even BETTER pranks, and like, it was awesome, even if-

even if she couldn’t /leave/ her bedroom and she needed to keep her existence a secret, and her mom sometimes was too busy to tell her stories or sing her to sleep, but sometimes she’d sit by the door and listen, so basically the same!

!!! :)

Even here- 8 episodes in, relationships still forming, a general hesitation to tread on anything too heavy- you see the unease on the rest of the party.

Caleb: So where were you at this point?

Nott: Just trapped in your room?

Jester: Well no, I wasn’t trapped, but you know- (*1)

Caleb: Did you get to go to the park? Did she read you stories, did she do the things that parents do?

Jester: She.. read me some stories! And a lot of times I would listen at the door and hear her sing.(*2)

Beau: Did she tell people about you?(*3)

Jester: *laughing* No.

Fjord: I imagine that would affect her business a little.

Jester: Exactly. I totally understand, she loves me so much. She really, really does. It’s just, you know, people frown upon courtesans with daughters.(*4)

Okay, so before anything else- we unpack this.

1: This is important to Jester- that she wasn’t trapped. Like, cmon, Jester has read books- SO many books, she knows all the stories, about girls being locked in high towers and- she’s not that! She wasn’t /trapped/ because she didn’t want to leave, not really. She wasn’t trapped, it wasn’t against her will, at all. (continued in 4)

2: The positive spin, the pause- and then the of course! In some form, it wasn’t exactly like how Caleb described,, but it happened! It still counts! (Also because this imagery broke my heart: a child jester, wanting to be sung to sleep or told a story but knowing her mom is busy, a young jester, alone, behind a door, listening to a song that isn’t for her but letting it wrap around her because-

because what else is she supposed to-

3: Putting this in because it makes sense Beau, of all people, asks this question. Beau who (Beau spoiler) was never the child her parents wanted, who was the disgrace, who was dropped in favor of a different child the moment they could do it, who was sent away and forgotten and will always live with the knowledge that she was a /disgrace/ to her family, a disappointment- something to be hidden. Looking at Jester; beautiful, bright, sweet Jester who is soft and easy and bright in all the ways Beau has never been- and thinking of her being hidden away, like a stain, like a disgrace.

4: This is perhaps the most important thing- that Jester isn’t upsetwith her mom because how could she be? Her mom loves her. So much. None of this was ever about making Jester suffer- god no, her mom always tried so hard to make Jester happy and comfortable and- her mom did good, her mom did a wonderful job, and she was just making the right decision.

Her mom loves her.

And you know what? She does. So much. I haven’t yet reached them meeting Marion, but I do know that much; that her mom really loves her, so, so, so much. And thats part of what makes this so painful, and part of why its so vital that Jester always speaks of her childhood with a tiptoeing sort of cheerfulness, why she’s always so insistent that it was fine, it was fine! Because, if its not fine, if it wasn’t fine that she grew up locked in a room, no friends, no company, not supposed to ever leave- then its really not fine. It means Jester, despite everything she has tried to tell herself, is not fine. Was not fine. For years, then something was wrong, something was extremely wrong, and that means she has to face that, deal with it. More than that, if it wasn’t fine, then it means that her mom, her mom who loved her so much and tried so hard to keep her happy, failed. Her mom did bad. That not only did her mom do bad things for her- arguably to her, not only did her mom directly play a part in making things not fine-

her mother did bad. to her. This isn’t just about Jester, this isn’t just about how she was incredibly, achingly lonely for so much of her childhood and how badly she wanted friends, how she ached and burned for friends and just wanted someone, anyone, to be her friend, more than an oft-vanishing green cloak, she wanted people and friendship and companionship and she just wanted to not be alone in her room, traveler please please please-

This is about how she would have to know that someone who tried so hard to keep her happy, tried so hard to not hurt her, someone who truly, genuinely loves her, hurt her anyway.

And that, that’s the most painful part, because that’s always such a fucking difficult lesson to learn: That sometimes people can love you, really, genuinely love you, and still do you wrong. And knowing they hurt you will hurt them, and admitting that, admitting that is sometimes just as hard as the initial damage, and moreso for someone like Jester who so badly wants to believe the best in people, especially the people she loves, and who is at her core, a protector (tm Laura Bailey).

She will never, ever face the extent of her own pain if it means she can, even indirectly, shield someone she loves about from that pain too.

ok i dont have a good ending for this but uhhhh PART 2, COMING AT SOME POINT: Why Jester Lavorre knowing about everyone’s tragic backstories DEFINITELY means she wont be acknowledging her own issues anytime soon.

fruits basket (2019) thoughts #1

So, I watched the first episode with my beloved wife and I have some things to say. Instead of live commentating and spamming your dashboards, I tossed these down in my notes upon my second viewing and I’d like to keep a record like this for each episode. I have grandiose dreams of doing an episode by episode recap, comparing both the manga AND the Studio Deen adaption (up until the plot diviated), but let’s be real- ya girl loves Fruits Basket, but ya girl is lazy. I’m positive this entire post is incoherent nonsense, but I said what I said.

フルーツバスケット

The newly animated story of God and the banquet is absolutely gorgeous- I know we got a little taste of it in the original teaser and official trailer, but I got chills the second it started. It’s literally SURREAL to see my childhood love back and FINALLY well animated. The scenery in particular is what’s so breathtaking. I have to gush, the backgrounds are STUNNING, the animation is so beautiful, fuck me up TMS Entertainment. And the dynamic lighting is truly stunning. The designs of the sets and the shadows are INCREDIBLE. The sunset scene near Yuki’s locker literally took my breath away. All the budget was funneled directly into the lighting fund, bet.

Laura Bailey really perfected the Tohru voice and she sounds much more confident in retrospect in her return. This isn’t her first rodeo as the riceball, but I already prefer the quieter, mature angle she’s taken this time around.

Shigure’s entrance made me cry. Ugly cry. He’s so handsome and SO TALL. Shigure’s voice is also much more mature, and deep and gravelly. Scruffy. Love it. Much more fitting for the bad boi he’s yet to be revealed to be. Love the updated, correct pronunciation for his name as well. 10/10, John will always have my heart.

Love Eric Vale, as always. Angelic and little deeper than before, like the previously mentioned two. The cast is exuding confidence this time around and I’m just anxious to get to the new material that the last anime travesty didn’t cover. I want to hear these voices in action during the more adult scenes of Fruits Basket. Ugh.

The Yuki fan club. God help us all. I wonder if we’ll get a filler episode for them again, at least the others that aren’t Makoto. She’s bae. She can stay. The filler episodes can go, though.

I’m absolutely in love with Uo and Hanajima. Love that they were incredible cooks during class and already had that shit covered, and Hanajima was just chowing down on the rice. Actual Mom(s) to Tohru Honda. Precious and perfect and pure, #tohruprotectionsquad2k19.

YUKI “PRINCELY SCUTTLING” AWAY WAS REDONE TO PERFECTION, YELLING. It’s all but identical to the original, and ballet Yuki is my jush. All of my jush. Once again, thank you Yoshihide Ibata. A man after my own heart.

I genuinely yelled at Yuki to grab that leaf from Tohru’s hair. YELLED. I’m so ready for Tohru to mom the fuck out of him, but I’m also just itching to get Machi in here. I’m also so greedy to get Kakeru because he’s a constant mood; give me my aloof brother and sister power duo, please.

I can’t believe we won’t get Rin or Kureno until season two, UGH.

The blood was so graphic for Kyoko’s death, I wonder how Hatori’s “eye incident” is going to look. Will it be a glass vase and insanely bloody scene like Studio Deen? Or will it be clean and no blood like the manga? I’m waiting for the carnage, TMS...

SHIGURE JUST WALKING THROUGH THE FOREST, BITCHING ABOUT BEING HUNGRY. A MOOD. I love that Yuki disses Shigure’s cooking. Confirmed, he is an awful cook and would burn the house down trying to boil water. Fight me. “We could really stand to have a woman around.” Shigure, you asshole.

Love the mention of the land being rented by the Sohma estate, thus why it’s so suspect to them that she mentions living nearby. I wonder if Shigure’s house is the only one on the land. Are there other Sohma(s) who aren’t cursed who live in the area? Interesting.

Shigure laughed at her. Once again, perfectly animated from the Studio Deen travesty. Shigure is such a prick. Y’all who didn’t read the manga are about to meet the number one asshole in the family, so enjoy this little taste while he’s considered redeemable. I love him. You can pry his cynical, snarky ass from my cold, dead hands, America.

LOVE YUKI’S SASS AT SHIGURE. MY FAVORITE. “Oh, you’re done laughing?”

Wow, his house is still brimming with garbage. Lovely. It’s confirmed, they can talk to their retrospective zodiac animals. “I like to call it my animal instinct!”AKA, a wolf howled outside and my dog senses are tingling.

Tohru scrambling for her mother’s photo once again has me undone. Though, Shigure’s hand holding and conforming Tohru was a nice reveal into the more empathetic side of the mutt. Love when he’s showing interesting in Tohru’s history that led her to the tent. He is clearly moved. So am I, bitch, I’m in tears. What the fuck. Tohru’s selfless nature is iconic, but ya’ll know Saki or Arisa would be DELIGHTED to host Tohru. And this girl bought a tent. On sale. I’m still pissed, GIRL PLEASE ??

Kyoko leaving school mid-middle school is true to the manga, but I can sense some rumblings in the SJW community that won’t appreciate the glorification in the lack of education. Nor that Kyoko will get with Katsuya, her teacher, later on. Only one of the many topics that is going to cause controversy in 2019, I think. I’m prepping my battlements.There are some elements that won’t translate well in today’s post-woke society, but I think a healthy dose of realizing the canon material is incredibly dated + giving it some slack for being fictional will help ease us through it. I’d hate to see it ripped apart for dated concepts and ignored for it’s groundbreaking storytelling and portrayal of eerily common toxic family values, with a dash of untreated mental illness. It has too much to share and learn from to be penalized for 90′s social stigmas.

Once again, Creepy Yuki with glowing eyes. Perfect. That was a LOT of rats, though, why the fuck is there thousands of rats on the property, Shigure? Is it because the house is nasty? Why are these three men so nasty? Was Shigure raised in a barn? More at 11.

“All of the bedrooms have locks on them, if you’re worried.” Yuki, ever the gentleman. My hero. He realizes the dangers and unease she might feel living with three boys, yet Tohru is blissfully ignorant of Yuki’s cause for concern. You ever see something so pure?

Shigure is given A SECOND OUTFIT. FOR ANIMATED SERIES, YA’LL THIS IS HUGE. Shigure wore a green yukata in his first appearance, and now blue. I hope to see more textures and colors like he’s donning in the manga. Shigure busts in trying to find a maid by asking Tohru if she could cook and clean. We’re back to selfish Shigure. Thank God; Yuki and Kyo deserve to not live in a pigsty. He’s so fucking handsome. I can’t breathe.

The shot of Shigure with his fan made me cry. 2019 FB has kept the silliness and seeing my boy fanning himself with that expression is what I’m here for. God.

The background music and themes fit perfectly as well. Ambient. It caught my attention during a few scenes, and it’s composed so beautifully. It feels just as artistic and whimsical as the animation does. Something akin to what Studio Ghibli inspires in me, is how I’d like to describe it. 10/10.

Once again, Kyo comes in through the roof in an attempt to sneak attack Yuki. This is an iconic moment, and both Takamatsu and I were YELLING on the call when orange top made his entrance. His beads are correctly colored this time. Red and white instead of black/dark blue and white. Lit. Side-note: Shigure peeking in to inquire with his overly long sleeves- adorable and silly, kill me.

Their POOF! smoke is now colored and not just white (thanks, Deen). Shigure is green (I expected Hatori or Kagura to get green, but okay), Yuki is periwinkle, and Kyo was orange. What a lovely touch. I’m weirdly interested in seeing everyone’s colors- did you see the effects on it as well? What the fuck? Stupid pretty.

The very first shot of the ending is Hatori- sleeping, just as he does at the summer home in front of Tohru. Such an interesting call back, as that was a defining moment for not only Hatori’s character development, but Tohru as well. It’s the dichotomy to how Hatori had been presented as so uptight and straight-laced until then. So, of course the fact that he’s first has me reeling, that I get to indulge in my favorite boy being the 1st ONE, no less, but the fact that he’s the first shown sleeping is ironic and adorable.

HATORI IS IN A SCARF THIS IS NOT A FALSE ALARM !!

@shiguresxhma made the point that Tohru is the only one awake in the ending credits and it’s as if she’s looking over the rest of the zodiacs, as she truly does in the manga as The Resident Sohma Mom. This is a PERFECT observation and I’m not crying, you are.

I loved it. Truly. I’m ready for more. GOD. It’s the perfect mixture of new art, not in Natauki’s self-admittedly dated style, yet has elements from the first anime- regardless of Studio Deen, I was so happy to see the silliness and expressions still animated into the story. It’s vibrant. And nostalgic. Wow, dudes. I want to say I’m speechless, but I wrote a novel, so...
