Let's talk about spring hounds!
Tumblr media
Spring hounds are the analog for dogs on Aurum, occupying a similar niche to wolves. They became domesticated a lot later than ours did, having become genetically distinct from their ancestors about 20,000 years ago. Because of this, along with other factors, they aren’t as physically diverse as our dogs are, but they fill many different niches and do have distinct breeds.
Remains of their ancestor species were found in singer burial grounds as far back as around 48,000 years ago! That’s around 20,000 years before Aurum’s last mass extinction event! The working theory for why it took them so long to become their own species is that bands of C singers would kidnap pups and raise them as their own on occasion. Since that was uncommon at the time, domestication just didn’t have the chance to come about until later.
Later on, because of an asteroid impact, populations of most species dropped drastically or completely disappeared. Spring hounds ancestors had a hard time coping with the post-impact world, and taking more scraps from the species who can hunt large game seemed very alluring. Over the next few thousand years, as the two singer species started to get more and more intertwined, spring hounds changed a lot. Close proximity to C singers made them much more sociable, trainable, and visually appealing (yay neoteny).
The reason why working with this species specifically was so appealing to Cs was the difference in their hunting methods. Cs are ambush predators, they can reach extremely high speeds, but not for very long. Spring hounds are endurance predators, they can pursue prey for much longer. When whatever is being hunted tries to escape, spring hounds are there to cut them off or herd them back to the hunting party. It's a system that benefits both, and that forged a deep bond between the two species.
Spring hounds still exist in the modern day, they're a very common working animal and even more common companions. It's common practice for Cs who give birth to only one child to get their child a spring hound pup to play and socialize with.
Tumblr media
E singers also keep them as pets, but their relationship with them is similar to our relationship with cats. Spring Hounds are slightly intimidated by Es size, and Es have a harder time forming bonds with them because of this. However, they are still pretty popular pets, and the two can form close bonds with each other like Cs can. Es just need to approach them with more patience and understanding.
Tumblr media
Biology
Tumblr media
With strong legs, stocky bodies, and mouths full of sharp teeth, spring hounds make formidable predators. Their body plan is similar to that of a kangaroo because of their shared need for endurance. They can hop at a stable speed for miles, pursuing prey until the exhaustion overcomes them.
Their tail has the same 3 segments most members of their class do, and it's used as a leg when they aren’t moving. The only exception to this is the awkward shuffle they do to move very short distances.
Their feet have one large claw to hook onto prey while they hold them down. Since they hunt in packs, they use their collective weight to hold down whatever they catch.
Large ears give them great hearing, allowing them to be alerted to things moving a considerable distance away from them. The long, thin feathers on their head are connected to recessive ears, which evolved to be used for communication and courtship.
Tumblr media
Spring pups are much fluffier, lacking the tusks and open ears of an adult hound. Their young are more altricial than Cs, and are unable to walk or hear for a few weeks after they are born. The two parents of the pups will take turns watching over the litter while the other one hunts. They can start eating meat after a couple of days but cannot crack through shells and bones until they're older.
Tumblr media
On average an adult spring hound is about 2-3 feet tall, but some breeds get closer to 1 or 4 feet.
Tumblr media
Their mouths are a bit overcomplicated, again like most animals in their class. One thing that sets them and the species closely related to them apart is the fact they are both carnivorous and have external tusks. The external tusks are not really for hunting, but for manipulating and holding onto carrion, and for building nests. Unlike their internal tusks, the external ones can move slightly up and down. They'll hold objects between their external tusks and tongue, and while they don't have the strongest grip, it makes up for their lack of forelegs or arms. The internal ones are used for hunting, so they’re are more firmly set in the jaw and are much sharper. Their beak is the real star of the show, however, it's the strongest part of their mouth and can bite through a lot of the harder parts of the animals they eat. In households, they have a bad habit of biting chair legs in half that are too thin if they don't get trained to use a designated chew toy. The “tongue” inside is a radula, and it's covered in thousands of teeth.
Tumblr media
Their eye color ranges from yellow to red, but their sclera is usually the same shade of very dark blue. Similarly to c singers, their eyes are not round, and are instead eye stalks similar to a mantis shrimps underneath skin, fat, and muscle. Their eyes rotation is limited, and they often will rotate their heads or bodies to get a good look at something. The “pull apart” style pupil is common amongst more nocturnal or crepuscular predators, with spring hounds falling into the latter category.
Coat genetics
Tumblr media
There are 12 categories of spring hound base coat colors, with 4 major color categories. Brown and tan are the most common, with black being a bit more uncommon and red being the rarest. The dilute gene is self explanatory, it lightens the color and patterning of the coat to varying degrees, nothing too flashy. The blush dilute is somewhat similar, but it impacts the pheomelanin less than the eumelanin, therefore it leaves a bit more of a rosy tone. The gene for dilute and blush dilute are both recessive, but it might show up again if the same type of dilute gene exists in both parents.
Tumblr media
There are some other colors that are the result of genetic mutations. All white coats don't exist in spring hounds standard coat colors, but leucistic spring hounds are not uncommon, so it was assumed they were part of the standard array. Albinism and melanism are both rather rare, but melanism doesn't come with health issues like albinism does, outside of being more vulnerable to heat stroke in some regions. Spring hounds with albinism tend to be visually impaired or blind, and it also weakens their tusks enough to require a diet with less hard bones and shells.
Tumblr media
The most common coat pattern is the colorpoint pattern. On earth, colorpoint cats have pigment in the warmest parts of their bodies. Spring hounds get pigment on the parts of their body that get the most sun exposure. This coat pattern comes about with age, and the amount of sun exposure they get in their early years has an impact on how dark their fur gets, along with genetics. Pigment shows up on the feet and under the tail because body heat does have some influence over where pigment shows up. This patterning frequently shows up along with other coat patterns, and most spring hounds will at least have a faint version of it under their stripes or splotches.
Tumblr media
The other common coat pattern for spring hounds is stripes, but some patterns are less common than others.
The most common stripe pattern, feral populations would often revert back to this pattern after a few generations.
The same as above but with more intense striping.
The equivalent of a blotched tabby, it’s less common but not rare.
The same as above but with more intense striping, this is a very popular stripe pattern.
A much more rare version of the common striped pattern, with less striping and larger light patches.
A similarly uncommon version of the “blotched” stripe pattern with larger light patches.
Tumblr media
The primary multicolored gene has a lot of color variety within it, with the gene causing specific pigments in the fur to either be greatly reduced or absent entirely. This exists in all fur coat genetics, but shows up a bit differently in all of them. Pigment loss tends to be concentrated on the underside of the body. Above are some examples of how this gene can change a spring hounds coat.
A lack of eumelanin, causing the affected fur to have a red to orange hue.
A complete lack of melanin, causing the effected fur to have a white hue.
A partial lack of melanin, causing the affected area to be a diluted tone, it can have a “blush” tone if the spring hound carries the gene for it.
An example of how the first version of the multicolor gene would look on a brown fur tone, the genes do not add pigment, so they change in accordance to the melanin ratios in each fur tone.
Tumblr media
There can also be white spotting that goes along with this gene, here are a few examples of what that looks like on different variations of the multicolor gene.
Tumblr media
Finally, here are some examples of different coat lengths. While these exist on a wide spectrum, they usually fall between 1 and 2. 3 is only really seen in breeds from polar regions and occasionally in mutts with the genetics for it. Short fur is seen as the most aesthetically pleasing, as it is easier to maintain and keep neat.
There are many, many combinations of all of these genes, giving spring hounds a wide variety of coats.
As for other physical features, the genetics are less clearly understood for a few reasons. Namely the fact they have not put much effort into recording the lineages of breeds.
Tumblr media
While there are no agreed upon breed standards, spring hounds have still changed in accordance to their jobs. Differences in appearance are either practical or purely incidental, breeding for specific traits for aesthetic reasons is more common in domestic fungi or plants. The image above is just a few examples of the variety of appearances.
Fun facts
They clack their beaks when they're content, it sounds a bit like this, but muffled.
A common play behavior is to nudge their companion with their tusks, which hurts BAD if they’re being rough or are running up to you before doing it. This is discouraged at a young age as to not cause any actual damage when they’re larger and stronger.
They’re mesocarnivores, with about 60% of their diet being meat.
Their favorite places to be pet are usually behind their ears, their cheeks, and the top of their back and tail.

Midan's New Pet (OPEN RP)
Tumblr media
There's always rumors around those with power and influence, conspiracy theories, horror stories. Usually there's a grain of truth to them, but the story as a whole is false. Usually the real story isn't nearly as bad as people think. Where Midan Aurum is concerned though, the truth is often far worse.
A merchant by trade there's always rumors surrounding him that he uses his contacts to smuggle in illicit goods, weapons, drugs, booze and the like. What people don't realize is that while he does do all that, he's involved in far more, including the trade of other people. It's there that Midan is now, at an underground market for a new pet for him to entertain himself with for a while before throwing into one of his brothels. He wears a perpetual scowl as he looks over the options, disregarding each with an insult as he goes. "Disgusting, hideous, if your hair is that bad just shave the damn head!" He finally stops in front of your muse, his eyes narrowing and his scowl slowly turns to a cruel grin. "My, my, what have we here? Merchant, this one." He doesn't bother asking the price, just using his cane to lift your muse's chin up to look at him. "Tell me, what's your name pet?"

I know shippy stuff and canon-adjacent stuff is popular and I'm certainly not dissing those. I like them too, they're a lot of fun! And AUs are great, I have so many!
But man, I wish there was more... idk, emphasis and exploration of the FFXIV lore, and those moments that have to have happened but aren't shown on screen - talked about and written about and illustrated here on tumblr.
That's usually been my favorite part of fandoms, discussing the lore with other fans in-depth and sharing theories, and seeing how everyone's characters would handle those big or quiet moments from the story itself. Exploring how a game mechanic/boss fight would feel from a story perspective, and what it would mean to the characters.
It's not entirely absent from here, but even when I make my own meta posts, even if they get lots of notes, I tend to see very little discussion added compared to what I'm used to from other fandoms. And when new patches come out, there's not a lot of deep talk about the story itself circulating. Maybe I've just been lucky in my previous spaces!
But... I want to know how the WoL and Graha bonded during the Crystal Tower raids. Did they sit around the campfire at night and talk? Did they drink and sing and laugh and argue?
What was it like, recovering from Ultima Thule? How did it feel to set out on the road again, leaving the title of Scion behind? Did they give their friends a tour of Ishgard? Did they visit Edmont? What was it like in the trenches of Ghimlyt Dark, for these characters who have never seen war before, versus the ones who have? Did the WoL help stabilize Lakeland, and tend wounded after the sin eater attacks?
I want late night study sessions with the twins, bittersweet work in the hot sun rebuilding Ala Mhigo, learning to fight on dragonback, Hraesvelgr's brood visiting Ishgard on diplomatic forways. I want snarking with Emet Selch while you help people with "side quests" in Norvrandt. I want gentle moments with Ryne on the road because if anyone understands the suffocating feeling of immense responsibility Hydaelyn and Minfilia have dropped on that child, it's the WoL.
What was it like for the WoL to fight the pirates in Sastasha? To see the women taken captive there? To see the Drowned mutilated by Leviathan's tempering? How did they handle the narrow tunnels and rickety elevators in Copperbell, and the giants angry after centuries of unjust imprisonment? Did they step in Aurum Vale's goldbile and have a shoe burnt off? Did they bring a pet korpokkur home from the Arboretum? Do they carry scars?
Do they take the manacutter out for joyrides? Did Grani recognize the color of their soul, and choose them over the tempered twist of Emet Selchs, or did Emet charge his familiar with looking after them? Have they ever been robbed in Limsa Lominsa? Did they ever buy loinfruit?
Does that goobbue sproutling grow up? The coerl kitten become a battle steed? The wolf pup a guardian? Do the sylphs play games with the WoL when they visit the Shroud? Do they carry a polished shell to remind them of their Clutchfather? Do they stop by the guild to check on the Deftarm whenever they're in Dravania?
What was it like trekking the spindly mountains of Othard, riding a Yol for the first time, seeing the endless plains of green, and the dead white of the Burn?
Do they still have nightmares about Haurchefant, or are they good dreams remembering his smile? Did he teach them to make hot chocolate? Did they stay up all night when the Scions lost their souls, waiting by the bedsides with a candle and feeling helpless?
Do they visit Amaurot, even after Emet Selch is gone? Are they still trying to remember? Did they look up at the night sky in Elpis and feel an indescribable sense of loss?
Was there ever a moment in Endwalker where they almost became a Blasphemy themselves? Did they ever answer Venat's question? Do they know that the love their friends had for them, saved them?

I need to know your most unhinged headcanons about Pyrrhon. Idk if you already have a post like this, but I need to know.
YAY YAY YAY OK. OK EVERY THING I'VE EVER THOUGHT ABOUT HTIS GUY LET'S GO. MILLION PAGE LONG POST UNDER THE CUT
OK so what is this thang in the first place right. I think he's an alien. HEAR ME OUT GUYS HEAR ME OUT. So space seems really weird and vaguely eldritch in the worldbuilding right, the Kraken and the Pirates' appearances being robotic along with the Aurum, who apparently just Happened one day. I think he also Happened one day and just crashed landed onto earth meteor style, either coming from the sun itself or being the Aurum's flawed attempt at mimicking a god that got too out of control and developed free will. I mean he has bright green eyes and looks nothing like the other gods. Even HADES wears CLOTHES man. Fitting with space being mostly outside the domain of the gods, this weird little mini sun man was able to claim the Sun God title because no one else was using it, which is why the gods themselves are torn on if he's one of them. He isn't immortal but he does age slower than normal, he's a fairly recent annoyance among all the divine discourse
Him and Arlon are brothers! Sorta. They met as kids without any apparent families and Pyrrhon theorizes that they're connected, which Arlon goes along with. So they kinda *become* brothers in a way with my headcanons? Ja. They start out being kinda frenemies who don't really get along and are just sticking with this theory to figure out their pasts but they end up truly having the brothers relationships and being at eachothers' backs. Everyone else is shocked to learn about this every single time since they're such opposites. Arlon lends stability and Pyrrhon lends freedom and encourages leniency towards the whole "loyalty" thing, which evidently means less to him. 😌
The other popular headcanon I like is that his flame aura is controlled by his emotions. He can make it flare up for dramatic effect or cool it down if he needs to, but it's typically involuntary. It's usually not harmful to people, though he can easily burn things if he isn't paying attention and he's always warm to the touch. If he's calm it simmers down. If he's really, truly upset or hopeless it goes out. If he's excited or angry it burns brighter. If it turns white hot and hurts to the touch, you should probably run. :)
He's trans. "How is he 7ft tall?" Divine HRT will do that to you. "Out of everyone in the cast who would be way more fitting-" I like him. "Wasn't there something in smash about the gods' physical forms-" I do what I want always all the time forever.
OKAY so it's tough sometimes with characters who are intended to be insane with no further context because on the one hand that can be kinda fucked but on the other hand OUHHHHH. crazy guy who loses control to the orb was such a weird adhd awakening for me but baby if it wasn't an awakening. SO putting aside that it's obviously exaggerated and he was probably just intended to be insane with no nuance, I headcanon him as autistic and adhd with probably an array of Other Shit going on that I'm not qualified to pin down without feeling like it may be insulting. my mental illness pilled folks give your takes below or don't if you're uncomfortable with attatching stuff to characters like this because that's very justified I just hyperfixate on and relate to the worst specimens possible o7 you would not believe how many ocs I have that are just "let's do this bitch again and deconstruct all the dehumanization these guys always get while we're at it" follow my main artblog with my ocs plug plug plug plug
I think he would hate Hades as the apex of the irresponsibility and evil of the gods. HOWEVER Pyrrhon x Hades is just inherently super funny to me so its tough I kinda need to reconsile them. MY HEADCANON is that they dated for a bit when Pyrrhon didn't have a vendetta against the gods yet and was going after cred then when Palutena and Medusa yuri-divorced Hades felt the urge to one-up Medusa in some way so he ended things with Pyrrhon by saying he's homophobic. This in turn put Pyrrhon on a brief stint of homophobia that he thankfully recovered from when he started to listen to Limp Bizkit (unironically in every way of course) and decided that Fred Durst is the most beautiful man on the planet. Or will be. Kid Icarus ancient Greece with Nintendo you know how it is.
I'm growling and pacing ominously with a shadow over my eyes all the time over his underdeveloped motivations BUT from what we're given of his respect for Pit and his vendetta against the gods along with the heroic act I feel like he's kinda with Dark Pit on the idea of the gods constantly throwing everything off balance BUT the critical difference that turns him into a villain is that he thinks that if a true hero like HIM were the most powerful god he could fix all of this! See see HIS indulgence in the violence and warring is justified he doesn't WANNA incinerate the angel but it's just for the greater good. Fool tried to end the cycle of violence by becoming part of it!!!!!!! Everyone point and laugh!!!!!!!!
He's smart but he's also a dumbass but he can actually be a genius under the right circumstances but he's so so stupid. Right. He would put together a computer on his own from nothing but Vibes then think YouTube is a platform exclusively for fnaf letsplays because its the first thing he clicked on and he doesn't know how to search. He can determine his location by looking at the stars he also got lost in the department store yesterday. He can tell you about the Aurum for two hours he doesn't remember what he ate for lunch yesterday so he answers with som shit like the essence of heroism in the sandwich of destiny. He's so me he's all of us in a way .
He has mild psychic powers and he is NOT good at them 💔 he taught himself short range telepathy hence why he only really talks to the others in person until he gets his power up. He also tried to learn how to give visions and prophecies recieved upon touching his gem but it kinda just traps you in his adhd mindzone where he tries to keep up the illusion with cardboard cutouts on sticks.
Okay post canon time! Horray!!!!! The shorter more hyperspecific headcanons are after this. Tw for trauma and parallels to abuse until this section is done we're in projecting lane now.
A lot of details of what happens to him post-Aurum vary depending on what I'm drawing/writing at the moment like if he gets out on his own or has to be rescued after the war with Hades resolves, but generally he's trapped with them for a while with wavering control over himself. He develops an intense phobia of space and the Aurum afterwards despite them once being his biggest interests (<- PROJECTING.) His sense of personhood is very disrupted - he wasn't just controlled, he was assimilated and became one in the same with them with only shards of him holding on and resisting. He goes between never wanting to encounter them again to being nothing but a vessel who *must* return to them again no matter what it does to him, and he doesn't remember how to be a person without them controlling him. He completely stops believing he's a god in any way. He often zones out with the instinct that something else will be at the wheel until someone snaps at him and he's like huh wuzzat. Then probably plays it off as being inconsiderate since what people expect of him is easier than the truth.
He has the belief that the Aurum are attempting to take him again, even if they end up destroyed they're too powerful to him now to end that easily. They're *all* and they're *everywhere*. Since a lot of ptsd symptoms can feel like losing control it compounds quickly.
He has a habit of covering his mouth when he's upset. The feeling of those words and that smile stick with him.
I also think he'd have pretty messed up misconceptions towards "redeeming himself". With his broken identity he clings onto the idea of being fearless and acting the same way he used to, otherwise they "won". He would do stuff like accompanying Pit on a space mission and acting like it's no sweat while intermittently sneaking off to hide the breakdown. Why should he be afraid? It was *his* fault after all, and if he can't stop himself from being hurt it's just going to be *his* problem.
He starts wearing clothes to hide the scars he recieved on his chest, back, and limbs. He wants to look like NOTHING has changed, as much as possible. He starts returning to his old Nothingcore fit the more he heals from the events, because he doesn't like the feeling of clothes in the first place. he wears fingerless gloves and leg warmers because he can't stand the alternatives to either.
He also has a cane that's supposed to look enough like a staff to pass as one. His legs have been Pixels for the past couple years ok. Either way he's insecure about it and mostly uses it private, once again passing off his troubles in the department as his typical cringefail self don't worry about it 😁 👍
There's some mechanical alterations inside of him and like. I don't know how to explain my vision here except imagine the junji ito stuff turning into spirals story but with math and geometry and such. You can plug a bluetooth chip into his back scar and he's a literal wifi hotspot now. The quadratic formula is hidden somewhere in his femur as a fun easter egg. A lot of the changes are good for an impromptu living weapon but not for that weapon having an easy time afterwards, but it takes a while for him to reach out for help there, not just because of all previously mentioned but because he *hates* the idea of something going in and making "edits" to him again.
There's some more literal lingering effects from the Aurum - he can understand Morse code and binary and is compelled to read it out and translate it whenever he sees it, and sometimes those are the forms of communication that remain when the others go down, along with general detached computer speak. He *really* doesn't like others seeing this -- I like the idea of Arlon or Palutena teaching him signing to use in moments like this.
He is so touch starved my god. He probably wasn't getting much affection pre-canon in the first place but after being in space for 3+ years in a place where anything organic for miles is destroyed on sight, his body not being his own, and then going on to hide it all? Someone lays a hand on his shoulder and he just *melts*. He already feels like the affectionate back-breaking bear hug type in my mind so it's just. Auougghhhhhhhhhh. Yeah.
NO ONE IS HANDING HIM THE AUX CORD. EVER. His top artist on Spotify is Smosh. He listens to Lil Dicky and Your Favorite Martian. When it's a date and he needs to put on the more acceptable by society stuff he puts on ABBA and the Niel Ciceriga mashup albums. The ladder is most of his exposure to the wider music world he was BAFFLED when he found out hendrix wasn't actually singing about furries. I also think it would be really fucking funny if his main playlist with 2010 YouTuber Core has like Kid A interspersed in there. Thom York and the party rock guys are on the exact same artistic pedestal to him (you can decide if he's a real one for that)
Okay back to the less intense headcanons. All the main ones were at the top these are just little ideas or like stupid stuff.
He would NOT BE A MYSOGINIST. NO ONE GETS MY GUY. He's the most cringefail feminist on earth he was at the women's march tripping over the asphalt and face planting 30 times and when it was over they had to pick him up with a dustpan. HER PRONOUNS ARE THEY/THEM !!!
He figured all the fnaf lore out on his own but none of the gods gave a shit so he used the peak of his power to bestow maddening visions upon Markiplier's 20th removed great Greek ancestor. Hades did the same thing to MatPat's 20th removed great Greek ancestor just to muddy the waters and spite his ex
His favorite animals are snakes, cats, and dragons. When the others find out about him Going Through It post canon, Viridi begrudgingly makes immortal replicas of a snake and cat as gifts to him for emotional support
He would use his divine resilience to go out and hug poisonous creatures and beasts because he can
He would get so upset by like made up cartoon insults like in worlds where everyone's a dragon and they call eachother a pink-tailed coward and that kind of stuff right. If he got teleported into the geronimo stilton book universe and another mouse called him a chedderface he would have to be HOSPITALIZED.
He doesn't curse a lot and only does it under very specific circumstances that tick him off like if you called spongebob annoying he would curse you out
Talks to himself alone in rooms constantly. Has ytp verbal stims.
Has a thumbtack and string board not for like anything in specific its kinda just his replacement for a journal but for a guy who tries to find the connection between the weird waiter he met at girls' night to the Aliens
I have a genre of guys I call Stray Dog Youth who are just people I think would evoke a heroic pity response from him and the urge to take them under his wing and raise them into defenders of justice. Pit. Chicken Little. Fluttershy. Shadow the Hedgehog. Timmy Turner. Gohan. Malcom in the middle maybe I never watched it. But do you see my vision here. He respects this genre of person more than any god ever
STIM LORE 🔥 fist bumps, flying around in circles, saying him catchphrases and doing him poses, playing with fire in his hands and swirling it around. He's a hup and huh and woop and oops and wup kind of guy. Sometimes he yells CHOCOLATE STARFISH!!! to himself in fred durst impression.
He polishes his forehead gem a lot to be as striking and shiny as possible
His hair starts to turn ashy at the tips and hang down when it grows longer
He respects human life more than the average god. Protecting the earth is his ultimate goal but he'll justify many questionable sacrifices to achieve that
Panromantic Asexual 💪 he does not care about flirting or sex there are horrors to quell citizen. I mean even if he wanted to he couldn't so.
Oh yeah he uses citizens generally when talking about humanity and such, but citizen turns into a nickname for Pit in particular as a sign of respect.
He gives Pit exposure therapy training after returning to earth and learning about his pyrophobia. He also has talks with Palutena, one of the first gods he develops some respect towards and one of the first people to accept him back in, since they relate to eachother over the Chaos Kin incident.
He doesn't have a real temple and he's mostly a drifter, but he did set up shop at an abandoned human temple in the middle of nowhere. WORST crib imaginable. courage the cowardly dog style PC setup. Light up gaming in progress sign. Q-bert funko pop displayed like a treasured collectable.
He would be OBSESSED with old low budget sci-fi movies and similar genres of b-movies. He thinks The Amazing Bulk is the best movie ever made ever
He would be really good at games where the rules are just entirely decided by vibes and such he can understand them thoroughly. That one video of the guys using toy phones and xylophones like a card game with gamer rage mannerisms. Calvinball. Etc.
He can go a while without sleep. When he needs to he lays back in the sky and sleeps among the stars. This has led to many flock of owls attacks followed by meteor crash landing into a god's back lawn.
THAT'S ALL I CAN THINK OF FOR NOW but yeah those are the big ones 💞 thank you for opening the gates for me to be insanecrazy about my specialist guy on the planet 😁

I saw this theory on twitter that if you are a person who has ever paid for anything in the game, your chances of not getting a limited 5 star within the first 10-30 pulls increases and I'm starting to believe that because ever since I bought the aurum pass my luck has always been getting the cards within the last 10 pulls FUCKING ALWAYS and it's so damn FRUSTRATING.

His mouth watered at the thought.
It didn’t make much sense to Owen, this desire, this hunger for something he could not have, and did not need. And yet, still it haunted him, appearing without warning when least expected and least desired. Like a need as much as touch and loving companionship, this… thirst for blood.
Humans struggled to understand the differences between the sexes - how could they truly understand the differences between human and vampire? Owen read what information he could, his curiosity as insatiable as the toxic desire itself, and yet, it seemed humanity came up empty, every time. No bodies could be acquired from a vampire, after all. Even lockets, the metal shield that guarded the vampire’s heart, did not seem to stay in human hands for long. The steps involved in turning a man into a monster were well-recorded, and baffling nonetheless. Some were clearly unnecessary. Some called on a magic no human could. Some couldn’t be true at all, but had to have been inserted within the instructions to deceive humanity. So the arguments went, bouncing off the walls of the university and scientific institutions and written in the pages of so many, many books.
And none of their theories or posturing helped him understand.
Owen was human, was he not? - and yet, he desired blood.
In his dreams he saw his lips kissing velvet soft brown skin, his pale hands intertwining with the thousand braids of the prince’s hair. His tongue traced over the vein. His eyes watched Lord Aurum moan.
And the dreams continued long after that, to places Owen refused to dwell on. Places that his mind refused to thrust back into the coffin of his subconscious. In the long moments before crawling from bed, he lay beneath the bedding, staring up at the ceiling, unable to escape it. The dream repeating, like a passage read over and over, even with his eyes open.
“Have you been dreaming again, Runner?” Lord Aurum asked once, as he tilted Owen’s face up to better look behind the glasses. “Your eyes are so red.”
And they were red indeed. Vampire red. Blood red. Red as the blood his monstrous parent drank. Red as the blood his anonymous human parent bled. Red as the blood that wept into Owen’s mouth, that danced down deep brown skin, in those hideous dreams.
“I have,” Owen admitted.
Lord Aurum shook his head, but said no more. And Owen was grateful for that small mercy. How could he ever explain it... That the only blood he’d ever wanted was Lord Aurum’s?

( thanks @cosmic-opossum !! here's his post )
Doing the same thing shx did bc I also haven't written anything much lately since sai'm focusing on worldbuilding and research for a personal project ( idk if it's going to be an essay or slideshow or who knows ) on critical theory and nationalism.
[ 1. chronicles of dust ] - Just another epic fantasy story. Part of my Turalinverse multiverse. MC Khanyi is a the favorite of the deity of cruelty and malice , war between factions , old magic , and a fallen empire she tried to place her hope in reviving ( but it's really and truly dead ). Lots of themes of duty and one's purpose.
[ 2. skyfall ? ( undecided ) ] - Also part of Turalinverse. Postapocalyptic adventure with lots of philosophy in which the two ( m/f ) mc don't fall in love :)) Also a not-so-subtle critique on capitalism and exploitation of labor , along with fighting monsters , and existential dread. Ends with the nihilism of the mcs prompting them to destroy humanity.
[ 3. under the mountain ] - Turalinverse. Cults and old gods and the politics of colonialism ( wooo ). A small colony town on the border of the Arinthar empire struggles with warring factions of monks , Arinthari envoys , and the town guard. One day , two defectors from the Arinthari armies come to the town with a vision to revive magic ( which is suppressed by the Arinthar ) and chaos and betrayal ensues.
[ 4. golden voices ] - Turalinverse ! The legend of Aurum Vox , the golden voice , a being that calls itself the chronicler , and seeks the end of knowledge. Gonna try to write it as an epic poem.
[ 5. just before dawn ] - Basically more philosophy but absolutely ridiculous at the same time ( think waiting for godot ). Set in a rural southern california town , a group of 3 teenagers meet in the dark hours at their favorite grocery store parking lot to process their lives. Nothing comes of any of it.
[ 6. tacit and filigree ] - Turalin. The story of the courts of magic and an exploration into Dalan's ( the main plane in turalin ) magic system and the politics surrounding it. Idk i came up with the title before the plot.
[ 7. unnamed ] - Another story in verse ( in epic poem ) threading together a couple poems i've written. It's bloody , it's dark , it's utterly incomprehensible.
Tagging : @julystruck , @orionsworldbuilding , @eccentric-kalki-talde , @revenant-chaos , @ponygirl-izzy , @local-yurei , @reptiles-of-the-mind. BTW ! I feel as though this can also work for art ocs ( like a lil description maybe ) , poetry , and anything creative.

to start with, caelus likes any flowers, really. he's not familiar with the language behind flowers much, but he likes chrysanthemums the best, as well as sunflowers and daffodils. anything that comes in yellow, he loves, but it's the thought behind being given flowers that's his favorite.
i think as far as akivili and long go, akivili was aware of long, and i think they may have met during akivili's trailblazing and long's travels through the universe. i like to think they understood one another, both seeking the intangible, both traversing the stars in order to seek it. i think akivili considered long a kindred spirit in some sense, but they didn't truly know one another on any deep sense. that said, i think they would've gotten along, and caelus likely has some memories of having met long, though i don't think it would be enough to form an opinion of his own on, since long has long since died.
caelus loves spicy foods, but also extremely sweet things, like immortal's delight. i think he'd also be fond of the chili oil beef offal stew sold in aurum alley, but he also loves berrypheasant skewers, and tuskpir wraps. anything extremely spicy or extremely sweet is sure to win his favor, though, but outside of that, he's not terribly picky, having never tried most things before.
as far as any abilities that caelus has that i haven't shared yet, i guess the only one i can really think of is how he connects to the express. since there's a theory that akivili's heart powers the express ( one that i incorporate into my lore for caelus ), since caelus is akivili, he can connect with the express as though it were truly a living being, since his heart is inside it. it's nothing so special as being able to control the express ( yet ), but he can tell whether or not the train or any cars are in disrepair or need maintainence, the cabin controls are respoonsive to his feelings, and if he gets close enough to the engine room, he feels a deeper connection to the train. though, he hasn't spoken about this to anyone, so he assumes it's the same for all the nameless on board.
when it comes to dan heng's lifespan, caelus tries not to acknowledge it for the moment. the thought of being alone on the express is not one he relishes, and he takes comfort in the fact that once himeko, welt, and march are gone, he'll still have dan heng for quite a while, however dan heng only having 700 years as opposed to caelus' eternity is eventually something he'll have to face, loathe as he may be. when it does finally come time for dan heng's years to be up, caelus would, at the very least, see him off to his hatching rebirth, or at least as far as he would be allowed to go. but given that dan heng would be the last one to leave the express, i think caelus would feel a sense of grief, even though dan heng isn't truly dead.
given that dan heng is someone extremely dear to caelus, i think it would be some time before he truly moved past that hole in his life and actually took on other nameless. i don't think caelus would let anyone else manage the archives, though, that would be something he'd take up himself, and no one would be allowed in for quite some time. with the rest of the nameless, caelus would take to clearing out their rooms in preparation for potential new crew members, but the archives i think is the one place he wouldn't touch, i don't think he'd be able to. i think caelus would eventually take up residence in there similarly to dan heng, if only because it would hurt him too badly to remove all traces of dan heng from the express, even though he knows he's supposed to.

(Written for @flashfictionfridayofficial‘s prompt FFF173: No Rest for the Wicked. Not related to anything else I’m working on, so enjoy this little cyberpunk family moment!)
Tumblr media
She wakes to a dimly lit room filled with the familiar scent of antiseptic. Despite all the technical advancements, one of the few that had remained was how the scent of antiseptics clung to skin and hospital clothes alike, despite the fact that it no longer stung the way bleach used to.
Her older sibling looks down at her, tapping their pen against the edge of their tablet. “It’s two thirty-four a.m. Standard Southern Time, your fool sister is currently downstairs making a new brace for you because she thinks it’s her fault you fell out a window. You can look at a list of your injuries over there because you haven’t ever listened to me when I told you to stay in bed for years and I highly doubt you’re going to start now. I recommend you stay still and rest for at least a month before returning to field work but again, you’ve never listened to me so instead I will tell you that there’s a cot for you in your fool sister’s lab and she’s cleared most of the fire-related paraphernalia away from that area. Any questions?”
“Nice to see you too, Soren.” She croaks out, testing her weight on her right arm. Said arm violently disagreed with it and made its disagreement well known. “In my defence, I didn’t expect to be thrown out the window and I did roll to try and take the impact off.”
“Yes, that’s why you’re not dead.” Soren says, still looking down at their tablet. “Consider thanking your partner for doing the paperwork. I’ve filed the release forms though I recommend you hold still.”
“Thanks, Su.” Her older sibling glares at her.
“I thought you said you would be more careful after you were done with all that revolution things.”
She shrugs. “I don’t see you scolding Aurum.”
“That’s because you’re not around when I’m down in the lab. It’s not like either of you listen to me.”
           “Thanks, Su.”
Her older sibling glares harder but does help her into a wheelchair so she doesn’t complain too much.
The hospital corridors are glowing faintly with the clean fluorescent white that hurts her eyes. She tunes her hearing in, picking up on footsteps and the rustle of medical equipment and the chatter of other debriefs past the lobby. Technically speaking, she doesn’t need to give her reports as soon as she usually does but she tends to forget if she doesn’t do them immediately so it’s really just easier.
When they finally reach the basement where her sister works, the first thing she hears is her younger sister’s voice. “-theoretical principles of Astruc’s theory-“            “It’s obvious.”
The door opens with a tap of Soren’s card as her younger sister turns to the door, eyes wild. “Iris, tell Aurum that it’s important to understand theory-“            “It’s not.”
“To explain what you’re doing for documentation purposes.” Her younger sister jabs one painted finger at the window for emphasis. “And don’t side with her just because she’s your twin.”
“Twin rights.” Her twin shrugs. “Did the brace work?”
“Feels okay. Thanks.” She turns to Tori. “Did you ask Aurum to help you with your homework again?”            “You make it sound like I’m in primary school.” She opens her mouth, before Tori picks up the paper covered in symbols and waves it aggressively. “Not all of us can just skip past school and get an honorary doctorate later under their famous pseudonym!”
“You can’t?” Aurum asks wryly, already fiddling with some metal thread thing again, the strange magnifying goggle thing attached to her eye. “I seem to forget that someone didn’t have any complaints when I held the electrical systems in the whole Agency headquarters hostage until they let someone move in.”
“And you wonder why people are scared of you.” Soren said under their breath, having been ignored by all of them present. They raise their voice to be heard over all the squabbling. “All of you, one at a time. Aurum, I know perfectly well that you know the theory because you use it when you want to show off and explain something to people when you actually want them to understand what you’re doing. Iris, get in the cot and stop antagonising your younger sister. God, I have not missed this.”
“Welcome back from the Sea, Soren.” Aurum says, deadpan.
“Come back from the Sea, Soren. Never mind that down there, everyone respects me as the chief medical officer and actually listens. No, no, I come back because my sister writes to me to say she misses me. And then I do come back and what is the first thing I encounter? All my sisters arguing. About chemical enhancements to whatever that thing you’re doing is.” They turn to stare at the concerning black stain on the ceiling. “Most young women talk about cosmetics. Or the newest hologram technology. Or clothes. What do my sisters talk about? Chemical manipulation.”
“Well, most young women don’t have honorary doctorates for their contributions to the Internet Revolution.”
“And aren’t top of their field in the intelligence side of things!”
           “I agree.” Tori says.
“No rest of the wicked.” Soren sighs. “Alright, get into the cot, you hellion. Don’t fall out of any other buildings.”
“I can make you a grappling hook? Or an inflatable thing so you don’t get injured the next time you fall out a building?” Aurum says hopefully.
           “No. Falling. Out. Of. Buildings.”
“It was strategic!” She turns to her twin. “Oh the flamethrower works by the way.”
“I saw on the news.” Her twin replies. “It looks great in action! Most people think that it’s just electronics that’s the key but that’s why they don’t think about alloys and also, fire.”
“You just like fire too much.” Soren says. “I still remember how you nearly burnt down our first apartment on accident.”
Iris grins at her sister, matching glints in their eyes, not noticing how the oldest and youngest respectively look alarmed at that.
Well, it’s not like it could get better than purposefully situating themselves within a technological revolution, could it?

Note
I’d love to hear about your fics and your process as a writer.
How long have you been writing, did you do any fics before RWBY, and do you feel like your writing has evolved over time?
Well, I first started doing creative writing outside of English assignments during my Junior year of HS (11th grade), which would have been 2017/18. But I didn't start with fan fiction. I've written a full 92kish fantasy novel.
Which I wrote on and off from 2017 to very early 2020. And it's terrible. Which, it was my first attempt at long form writing, so it was going to be terrible no matter what. But it was the best I could do at the time and I certainly wouldn't be as skilled as I am now, which still isn't very skilled, if I didn't write it. So you gotta take the good with the bad.
And no, I will never ever ever ever release that document to the public. You people deserve better than that.
Then I didn't really write anything at all from March of 2020 to around this time last year. Why? To make a long story short, medical problems. I had to be rushed to the ER in March of that year, I've spend several days in the hospital since then, I almost had to drop out of college at one point, and I had my last surgery towards the end of August last year.
I actually wrote my first post here, It Worked For Mom, while I was recovering from surgery. So there's a bit of a fun fact for this blog.
I started maybe 5 or 6 Fallout and Dragonball fics while I was in HS that never made it past the first chapter. That I also never published.
I wrote my first RWBY fic around the end of May last year. Rosa Aurum which means Rose Gold in Latin, and yes it was Lancaster. I've been on that train since day 1. Which was sort of my spiritual successor to Beacon Beckons if you've ever read that fic.
I didn't even finish the first chapter for that one.
My second attempt at a fic was actually Lancatster (Jaune x Ruby x Blake) but I can't find the file anymore. And I don't remember the name, but I do remember making it to chapter 2 with the one. So, progress.
------
Now, with everything I wrote from High School to the fic before Ghosts of Summer I had a pretty thorough outline. I fact, it'd say the I probably over planned. The outline document for my novel is about 37k words itself. Which considering the finished novel is a little over 90k, having your outline be 1/3 the size of the finished project is just absurd.
And I tried to use that same method for those first 2 fics that never went anywhere. Safe to say, didn't really work out.
With Ghosts of Summer, which is the first fic I've published and the first that's really made it very far, I've kind of just used the Tumblr version as a rough outline. Which is also what I've done with Ginger Whisper and Arc-Noire and will do with my other series most likely.
So, I've gone from a hardcore planner to a kind of a middle ground between planning and pantsing.
So I guess you can say my planning method now is to throw ideas at you people, see the reaction and if there's any feedback, and see if I like the idea in practice as much as I like it in theory. Which helps me decide if I want to pursue that idea in the novelization or not.
I've recently started giving myself a minimum amount of words to write in a day. 1k words a day. So, actively tracking the amount I write a day has helped me quite a bit in writing consistently. Instead of kind of just waiting for inspiration and hoping that carries me along.
Which is how I've managed to write four 5k+ chapters of three different fics over the past month and change. And I do plan on being much more consistent on the front in the future.
------
As for how my writing has evolved over time. Well, I think my dialogue has gotten a lot better. As well as my prose and writing in general has gotten a lot easier over time.
I'm still terrible with plots. And I'm absolutely terrible with writing body language. So, I think I tend to rely a little bit too much on showing over telling on that front.
I do think I've gotten better overall in the last few months. I think most of that just comes from consistently writing and practice does make perfect. And the fact that I've had the opportunity to work with other wonderful writers on here really had helped too.
But, there's still a lot for me to improve on and I'm going to work hard to continue improving my writing. I do eventually want to be published, so I have a long way to go.
One interesting thing though is that I don't really have any more anxiety when it comes to writing or posting my writing. Not really sure why though.
------
I'm happy to answer any more questions you might have.

SDC Month - June 2022 - Saturday #3
It's Theory Saturday again!
(Cut for length and any potential spoilers.)
The Oldest, and Yet the Last
(Sadly, this title is not entirely accurate — it just so happened I favoured an A Song of Ice and Fire reference over accuracy. What can I say? I was just too fond of the idea not to use it.)
Today's theory is also introduced through a passage from quite early in the series. Namely, a remark Sardian makes during the same conversation in which he explains Aurum's succession situation to Carnelian:
"Are the children of the Chosen so frail?" "A curse of our race is that so few come of age. Though mortal blood waters down the ichor of the Gods, our veins cannot contain its fire, and it softens our bones."
While we have no concrete information on Chosen child mortality rates, something in Sardian's words eventually started striking me as more oddly personal than an actual, accurate representation of said rates. True, deriving a conclusion like this from the four simple words "So few come of age" is more than a little speculative, but a theory is not a scientific article, after all. I thought that this instinctive feeling could make for a good potential theory, especially since, despite being told about this on the second chapter of the series, we do not learn about (m)any specific cases (that is not to say that no Chosen children die during the books, but those are hardly the more "natural" deaths that would be associated with child mortality).
So yes, I do believe Sardian is speaking from personal experience here. While as far as we know, he had no prior marriages before the one to Azurea, and so it seems unlikely he would have had other Chosen children at all, let alone any who died young, he would not necessarily be referring to his children here.
Taking a look at the Suth family tree, we can notice some potentially interesting facts. Sardian was born when his mother Urquentha was quite young (15 years old), and his sister was born 2 years later. Even though Urquentha is still living at Coomb Suth by the time of the series, for some reason, she does not appear to have had any more children by her husband following the birth of their daughter. And unlike with matches restricted to a fixed period of time or specifying the birth of a set number of children, the possibility would definitely have been there (especially since Urquentha would only be 34 at the time of her husband's death). Yet it is entirely possible the two did have more children, and those additional siblings did succumb to the all-too-present childhood mortality Sardian mentions. (I think it makes perfect sense for them not to be pictured in the Suth tree if this is the case, since even if they did exist, they are not relevant to the main story. After all, for instance, Sardian and Carnelian certainly must have marumaga half-siblings other than the ones we do know about, and they're never mentioned, relevant or pictured in the tree either.)
The fact that Urquentha gave birth to Sardian at an early age is also an important factor here, because it would mean Sardian would likely be the eldest Suth sibling overall, even accounting for these hypothetical additional ones. Meaning he would be in a position where he would probably remember the deaths of most of these brothers and sisters fairly clearly — lending an even more personal element to his words to Carnelian in The Masters.
And assuming "so few" is not just an exaggeration of sorts resulting of the impact this would have undoubtedly had on him, it seems probable Sardian's parents were indeed particularly unfortunate when it came to their children, with more of them dying young than living long enough to reach their majority. (While I did not consider a concrete number of deceased siblings when coming up with this theory, something like four or five dying in infancy/childhood does not seem unlikely — two survivors out of six/seven children total could, I think, realistically be referred to as a scenario where "so few" lived enough to come of age.)
In conclusion: a depressing situation to consider, to be sure, but still something that, at least to me, does not seem at all implausible for the setting. Plus, I feel like it is also interesting in terms of how it could shape interpretations of Sardian and Urquentha's worldview and motivations — just because child mortality is common and part of life for the Chosen characters, it doesn't mean it can't or won't be deeply impactful to the families of said children.

Eve Online - Is it Worth Playing?
Tumblr media
Many commentators have attempted to value entities in the game in real-world currency, but such estimates do not bear out the true value of the wealth in the game. Even the fleet-ready titan, the largest ship in the game, costs around US$7,600. In reality, players do not spend real-world currency to acquire in-game wealth, preferring instead to engage in activities that net them high profits.
PLEX
The introduction of PLEX in EVE Online will bring some changes to the way players manage their currency. Players will soon be able to store their PLEX in vaults and ships. Previously, PLEX was a single-purpose item, used to grant 30 days of subscription time. But now, PLEX will be used to activate several services, including multiple character training and account transfers. In addition, players will be able to convert PLEX into 3,500 Aurum, the virtual currency used to buy cosmetic items.
As a result, PLEX will become a valuable item. This will make players want to get hold of as much of it as possible, but not at the expense of sacrificing the safety of their ships. However, players should keep in mind that PLEX prices are likely to increase after the launch of the PLEX vault, so they'll need to take the time to properly move it. The PLEX vault will help stabilize PLEX prices, as it will remove the need to place PLEX in a ship.
Learning curve
When you first start playing EVE, you'll find the learning curve a bit steep. The game itself is huge, with thousands of solar systems and a million players, but beginners can find the quietest of these solar systems with only a few players. Even then, the busiest of these solar systems can have a thousand players at any given time. Despite the steep learning curve, Eve is a very accessible game and you should be able to pick up the basics within a month. Alternatively, you can use the official forums to ask questions.
While there are plenty of tutorials and guides available online, the best way to learn the ins and outs of EvE Online is by playing with veterans. To this end, many of these corporations have set up "Ivy League"-style universities where veteran players give organized lectures. These lectures are far more effective than online tutorials, as you're able to ask questions of the experts. Moreover, these lectures are also more interactive, allowing you to learn from other players.
Complexity
The complexity of EVE Online is something that is hard to quantify, especially for first-timers. There are many different factors that contribute to this, including the game's incredibly long learning curve and the fact that players are often more powerful than experienced players. As such, CCP must work to leverage these factors in order to keep the game stable for the long term. One key way to do this is to make the game's entry cost as low as possible.
Despite the increasing complexity of EVE Online, players are still enthusiastic about the game. As a result, some players have argued that CCP is making changes in the game to boost engagement numbers for Pearl Abyss, the company that acquired Eve Online developer in 2018. However, most experienced players have dismissed these conspiracy theories as 'tinfoil chatter', pointing out that the developers are not directly responsible for the game's design and are largely disconnected from the community.
In-game economy
The in-game economy of EVE Online is based on commodities, which aren't part of the player's actual inventory. As a result, very little of what a player has is useless, and nearly everything has some sort of use in the game. The basic premise is that every player-run space station needs certain resources to function. In short, the game's economy is driven by market dynamics and technological advancements, but there are also many ways players can influence the economy.
One example of this is the World War Bee, a group that survived for so long due to its stockpiles of assets. This particular group lasted far longer than the other teams in the game because they accumulated a significant amount of wealth. In the EVE Online world, stockpi
