Bald archy exhibition
Tumblr media
#Bald archy exhibition professional
Swanpool & District Memorial Hall was resplendent, transformed into a gallery to exhibit the 45 irreverent portraits of well-known Australians. The exhibition will run from 9 March - 8 April, is open week days from 9am- 5pm and weekends from 10am - 4pm at the ABC's Ultimo Centre, 700 Harris Street, Ultimo. Over 100 people celebrated the launch of the 2016 Swanpool Bald Archy exhibition recently, while raising funds for Benalla’s Tomorrow Today Foundation.
#Bald archy exhibition professional
This year entries include daring and bold portraits of Australian characters such as Bill Henson, Julia Gillard, Andrew Denton, Morris Iemma, Nicole Kidman and many more painted by amateur and professional artists.īald Archy founder, Peter Batey OAM describes the exhibition as "Irreverent, irrepressible, hilarious, satirical - the exhibition the man-in-the-street loves (and the arts snobs hate) - and the only exhibition in the world judged by a sulphur-crested cockatoo name Maude!" The Bald Archy Prize is known for attracting often controversial and humorous entries from around the country. In 2008, his satirical portrait of the Danish royal family in their underwear won the competition. James Brennan was thrilled to win for the second year in a row. The winning entry, and the other 46 finalists are on exhibition in the ABC Ultimo foyer. His portrait of racing identity Bart Cummings, called Old Owl Eyes Is backwas judged the winner of this year's competition.ħ02 ABC Sydney is hosting the 16th annual Bald Archy Prize exhibition, which opened today. After a 20 year absence, Australias most popular comic portrait competition, Bald Archy Exhibition is returning to Melbourne. In the words of National Wool Museum Director, Padraic Fisher, “Self-reflection and social commentary through satire and humour… What could be more Australian?,” so as he suggests, “Go see that ‘other prize’, then meander down towards the waterfront to our bluestone jewel box for a slice of Aussie larrikinism.Maitland based artist James Brennan has won the Bald Archy prize two years in a row. Titled An Evening of Absurdity in Portraiture, the special event will take place at the National Wool Museum on 25 October, where attendees will be able to create their very own comedic portrait. It will feature 45 finalists, including that of politicians, athletes, entertainers and media representatives, just to name a few, who will be announced by The national Wool Museum and co-presenter, Rotary Club of Geelong, in conjunction with the event’s Founder/Director, Peter Batey OAM.Īs part of the exhibition, The Bald Archy Prize finalist and local Geelong artist, Kristen Wiadrowski, will also demonstrate the process involved in crafting an entry to The Bald Archy Prize. And speaking of firsts, the Geelong installation will also mark the first time The Bald Archy Prize and the Archibald Prize will be on display in the same city at the same time. The competition – a spoof of the more serious Archibald prize – is now in its 24th year and is coming to Geelong for the first time ever, featuring at The National Wool Museum from 14 October to 11 November. And, we are told that it is the only competition in the world to be judged by a sulphur-crested cockatoo named Maude. The Bald Archy Prize brings the two together – art and laughs – for what is Australia’s most popular and eccentric art competition for comic and satiric portraits. After a 20 year absence, Australia's most popular comic portrait competition, Bald Archy Exhibition is returning to Melbourne. If you’re a fan of art, as well as a fan of a laugh, The Bald Archy Prize is likely to tickle your fancy.

Alright!
@calamitys-child I have several records for a Sophie Devereux!
Or Sophia, or Sophy, y’know - no Deverauxs, or Devereauxs, tho, I don’t think?
This is possibly (definitely) far more detailed than you were expecting, but like. This is. Yeah.
So. We have
1 - Sophy Maria Devereux, a bricklayer’s wife from Burton Latimer. She was born Sophy Maria Westley in 1863, she was a machinist as a teenager, and then married an Amos Charles Devereux, in 1879 - though she said she was 18 when she was 16, probably so her parents didn’t have to sign off for it, and she was possibly already pregnant with her first child, Arthur.
Tumblr media
[ID: part of a 1911 census, which lists Amos Charles Devereux as head of the house. He is a 54 year old bricklayer. His wife is Sophy Maria Deveraux, 47. They have been married for 30 years. She is recorded as having had 14 children, though only 3 of them are still living. Then is their daughter Hannah Elizabeth Devereux, a 25 year old glover. /End ID.]
Sophy’s surviving children were Arthur, possibly her firstborn, Annie, and Hannah (as above). Arthur served in the RASC during the war (he had grey eyes. brown hair, and a fresh complexion, and went to France) and became a cutlery grinder. Annie and Hannah were both at one stage shoemakers.
This Sophy died in Kettering in 1921.
-
2 - Sophia Devereax, a file cutter’s wife in Sheffield. She was born in 1828 in Loxley - I don’t know under what name, as I can’t find a marriage record, but I do know her husband (common-law or otherwise) was called Thomas Devereax, and he was from Wolverhampton. His first wife (Hannah Wynn from Birmingham) died in 1867, and Sophia is with him on the 1871 census. They don’t appear to have had any children together, unsurprisingly, but Thomas had five children from his previous marriage (Joseph, Alfred, Kate, Samuel and Mary). After Sophia died (sometime during the 1870s, as in 1881, Thomas is a widower), Thomas became a licensed victualler, and ran the Spring Wood Inn on Freedom Street in Sheffield, with his daughter Kate as barmaid.
Tumblr media
[ID: part of a 1871 census, which lists Thomas Devereax as head of the household. He is 45 years old. His wife Sophia is 43, and follow his children - Joseph, 18, Alfred, 16, Kate, 12, Samuel, 10, and Mary, 7. /End ID]
That one’s a bit of a mystery, and I spent too long looking up the name of the pub (thank you pubwiki, and who knew that was a thing)
-
3 - Sophie P Devereux, a jeweller’s clerk in King’s Norton. I know even less about this one than the others, as she wasn’t married or
oh hohoho wait
Sophia Petrie Devereux, born 1854 in Bodenham, Hereford to Henry George Devereux and Sophia Petrie. Henry was lately a farmer of 160 acres, having lost his farm sometime in the 50s I believe, tho on his death in 1879 he was listed as a yeoman, which as I (cityfolk I am) understand it is basically a farmer, idk.
Sophia Petrie herself (she ought to have her own listing, whoops) was a farmer’s daughter, tho she was from Snettisham in Norfolk, her father had 200 acres there and both her parents (Archibald and Jessie Petrie) were from Scotland. Archie and Jessie had ten children on their two censuses (1841 and 1851) and were both born in the 1790s. Their children (Sophia Petrie’s siblings and Sophia Devereux’s aunts and uncles) were, in order as I have them - Eliza, Susannah, Archibald, Charles, Jessie, Sophia, Euphemia, Agnes, John and Walter - tho Eliza was 22 in 1841 and it’s very possible there’s older ones than her.
Anyway, Sophie P D. I have for her four English censuses - three of which she lived with her parents in Aston, and the last she was a boarder with the Hackwood family in King’s Norton. Then I have 10 electoral rolls listings for her, dating 1919 to 1942 - for a place called Caulfield, Victoria in Australia! Which is cool! A jetsetting Sophie! I mean, I don’t know when she left for Australia, but they definitely didn’t have jets.
Here she is on the 1919 electoral roll -
Tumblr media
[ID: an electoral roll listing that reads - Devereux, Sophia Petrie, 33 Wanda rd., Caulfield, clerk, F. /End ID]
Ooh, Wanda Road is now some lovely little two-storey houses with little gardens - tho they’re definitely not original to Sophia’s time. Well, the wooden bungalow-y sort of ones further down might be, idk, but there’s a lot of new brick there. Also a lot of trees!
-
4 - Last but not least, and possibly my favourite if only because of her husband’s name - Sophia Devereux, born in Arsley Bedfordshire, married to one Offspring Devereux. No that is not a typo, that is his actual name.
Tumblr media
[ID: part of a 1851 census, which shows Offspring Devereux, a 23 year old agricultural labourer, and his wife Sophia, age 21. They are listed as son and daughter in law of the head of the household, John Green, indicating that either Offspring or Sophia is the child of his wife Ann. /End ID]
I’ve done a bit of a search and I think that Sophia’s maiden name is Crouch, and she might be Ann’s daughter from a previous-previous marriage. Or she’s been adopted and kept her surname. All a bit convoluted.
Ah, yep - Sophy, as she was on her marriage and her baptism records - her parents were Edward and Ann Crouch. She was born in 1829, in Arlesey, it is now.
In later censuses, Sophia is a straw plaiter - that is, plaiting up straw strands to make into hats and things - because agricultural labour, then as now, doesn’t pay very well, and Sophia and Offspring (also a shepherd at times) had an eventual six children to feed.
Sophia died in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire (which is such an incredibly English-sounding place name) in 1890, age 60.
Offspring is not a common name, unsurprisingly, but there have been at least 7 Offsprings born in Bedfordshire - our one was born in the mid-1820s, but there was an Offspring Webb born around 1810, again in Arlsey - he doesn’t appear to have given any of his sons his own name, but one of his daughters is called Fanny - oh, no, wait, his youngest child is called Offspring, never mind
Did they run out of names?? This is so much worse than my uncle Redvers. Like, why?? Also, surely their wives didn’t call them ‘Offspring’, surely not

All-Star Weekends: The Greatest and the Most Memorable
The NBA has the best when it comes to All-Star festivity compared to other leagues of American Sports. Since the 50s, the NBA All-Star concept evolved and even with the arrival of the flamboyant ABA, it just allowed for more creativity. Here I don’t mean the Slam Dunk Competition or the 3-Point Competition but rather I’m talking about the NBA All-Stars vs ABA All-Stars matches that happened in 1971 & ‘72
Tumblr media
1972 NBA All-Stars: UNIONDALE, NY - MAY 25: The NBA All Star Team during introductions from left to right: Bob Love #11, John Havlichek # 17, Connie Hawkins #42, Paul Silas #22, Dave DeBusschere #44 (injured and did not play), Wilt Chamberlain #13, Bob Lanier #33, Archie Clark #21, Nate Archibald #16, Oscar Robertson #1, Gail Goodrich #20 and Coach Elgin Baylor versus the ABA All Star Team at the Nassau Coliseum on May 25, 1972 in Uniondale, New York. Tumblr media
1972 ABA All-Stars: UNIONDALE, NY - MAY 25: (L-R) ABA Coach Al Bianchi, George Thompson 320, Don Freeman #26, Jimmy Jones #15, Ralph Simpson #43, Artis Gilmore #54, Mel Daniels #31, Rick Barry #24,Roger Brown #35, Julius Erving #32 (Dr J), Dan Issel #44 and Willie Wise#42 of the ABA All Star team line up during the introductions prior to the game against the NBA All Star Team at the Nassau Coliseum on May 25, 1972 in Uniondale, New York. (Photo by Randy Brooke/Getty Images)
The short lived clash of the leagues on an All-Star level may have played an important role in bringing both closer to the point of merger and with it came the flamboyance that was severely lacking in the 70s NBA
Since the leagues merged and with the start of Magic-Bird era in 1979, the new talent with veterans like Dr. J, Kareem, Moses, ensured that every year’s All-Star weekend became a highlight reel on it’s own. As exciting as NBA Finals but on a friendlier tone (not the watered down complicated version we see today where players let each other dunk and the East vs West rivalry has been replaced by individual superstars rivalries)
The Peak, however, was reached in the 90s and here are two weekends that will always stand out in NBA All-Star Weekend history:
1997 All-Star Weekend:
It’ll be remembered as the Golden All-Star Weekend due to NBA’s Golden Jubilee but also because of:
Gathering of NBA’s 50 Greatest Players of All-Time
youtube
47 out of 50 Greats gathered at Gund Arena. The three who weren’t able to attend were: Pete Maravich (d. 1988), Shaquille O’Neal (knee surgery) and Jerry West (ear surgery)
Michael Jordan recording 1st ever triple double in ASG History (no one had a triple double before him, not even Big O)
Tumblr media
The upset in the game happened because of injuries of five All-Stars: Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, Shaquille O’Neal, Patrick Ewing and Alonzo Mourning but their injuries would pave the way for All-Star debut of Chris Webber and Kevin Garnett. I guess this is how life works
Glenn Rice (All-Star MVP) broke two ASG records that night: most points in a quarter and most points in a half
Allen Iverson was the Rookie All-Star MVP while Kobe Bryant set the record for the most points in Rookie All-Star Game history. This was destiny telling us that these two would dominate the league in the next decade
Tumblr media
1998 NBA All-Star Game: The Crown Jewel
In my opinion, the 1998 NBA All-Star Game will always stand out as the most important from a historical standpoint. It was not like Magic Johnson’s 1992 All-Star Game nor was it like Michael Jordan’s in 1996
This game would put the Greatest Laker of All-Time in the making, Kobe Bryant against possibly the Greatest of All-Time: Michael Jordan but to know the greatness of an event, you have to read the signs:
Michael’s last All-Star Game in which he also won the All-Star MVP trophy
Larry Bird’s first ever All-Star game as a Head Coach
Kobe’s first ever All-Star game
Tumblr media
And all of this took place in the city known as Mecca of Basketball with the location being Madison Square Garden
Tumblr media
End Note
All Star games from the 80s till early decade of 2000s were pure magnanimity on display from the NBA under the late David Stern but the 1997 All-Star Weekend and the 1998 All-Star Game were a part of a Divine plan of more greatness to come in the league

Veronica Lodge hung from Betty's arm.
"So...you and Archie?" Betty rolled her eyes.
"Nothings going on between us," She stated, pulling Veronica hastily towards their next lesson.
"But you want something to go on." Veronica grinned at the blonde's red face. "It's ok, i wont tell." She promised, smiling softly when she saw Betty let out a big breath.
"Thanks Veronica,"
"No worries," they got to class, Ronnie pushing Betty to the back of the class. "So," she said, sitting down and pulling out a few books. "If Archibald is off limits, who here is free for the taking?"
Betty laughed.
"Already sinking your claws into a boy?" Veronica scrunched her face up.
"You make it sound like I'm going to eat someone alive."
"Oh!" She exclaimed. "Sorry. Didn't mean to sound so...rude."
"It's fine," Veronica assured.
The door to the class flew open, boys in letterman jackets flooded in. Their laughs and shouts filled the room and vibrated through the walls.
Betty rolled her eyes, adjusting her baby pink sweater.
However, Veronica's eyes scouted out all the boys' faces, a little disappointed at their generic features. Her eyes passed a dark-skinned buff male. Her eyes lingered for a minute.
"Nope," Betty shook her head.
"What?"
"Chuck is a no go. Complete womanizer." She stated, scowling "ever heard of a sticky maple?"
"No...?" Veronica's face scrunched up again, silently asking for more details.
"Let's keep it that way..."
The Lodge huffed, surveying the boys again.
Her eyes landed on a tall, olive skinned beauty. His dark hair was swept back, creating an amazing view of his chiseled jawline and plump, Pink lips. His eyes were dark pools of chocolate that Veronica knew she would melt into.
"Who's he?" She directed her head the the jock, who finally sat down nearer to the front.
"That is Reggie Mantle," Betty shrugged, pulling out her equipment. "Why--" she froze, her eyes flying to mantle and then back to Veronica, multiple times. "No."
The girl scoffed, rolling her eyes.
"Ok, seriously? Whats this guy's problem them? Secretly a cannibal?"
Betty sighed.
"No, he has a girlfriend." The Lodge perked up.
"Really now..." Her eyes burned into the boy's head. "Who is she?"
"Y/N L/N." The blonde muttered. "I've spoke to her a couple of time. She's really nice, but sometimes she can be sensitive. That's why you shouldn't mess with her!"
Veronica laughed slightly.
"She sounds like a pussy the way you're describing her." Veronica put a palm to her mouth. "Sorry! I shouldn't be calling people names when i haven't even met them. Force of habit i guess."
Betty placed a comforting hand on her back, rubbing slightly.
"It's ok. I get it. But don't say that infront of any of the bulldogs, or Cheryl Blossom." She warned.
"Why Cheryl?"
"Cheryl and Y/N may not be enemies, but Cheryl is a gossip bomb. If she hears anyone say anything, she tells everyone, and she never tells anyone nicely."
Veronica groaned.
"Look," Betty put her hands near her chest, palms facing Veronica. "I can't control what you do. If you wanna try get inbetween the Power Couple then go ahead, but i warned you..."
"Power Couple?"
"They've been together since Freshman Year. They've never broken up or gone on a break. Both are fiercely loyal to each other and they have never been tempted by the many people who have tried to get one of theirs attention."
The school teacher waltz in, a smile on his face.
"All right class, settle down now. Turn to page--"
--
Veronica eyed Reggie on the other side of the cafeteria.
"For being the power couple, they sure don't spend a lot of time together, i haven't even seen this Y/N girl in the hallways."
Kevin's eyes darted to Betty's.
"Well, they often say that they can trust eachother enough not to be around eachother 24/7. Plus, Y/N been busy with the drama club she runs."
"Drama? No wonder She's so sensitive," the insult flies out her mouth without her noticing, chomping on some fries instead.
"Well, she's amazing at it, me and her are close friends because of it," Kevin stated, looking around and avoiding Veronica's eyes.
"Welp, nows better then never," Veronica stood up, sliding off the bench before swaying her hips, making the small journey to the jocks.
When she rested her hand on the table, chatter stopped and the boys looked at her expectantly.
"Hello, My names Veronica Lodge. I'm new here," She introduced, her eyes pinned to chocolate brown ones.
"You're new?" Reggie asked, smiling up at the girl.
"Fresh meat," She winked, Reggie's eyes widening. The table was dead still.
"Hey Reg, boys," A voice came from behind her, causing her body to swerve round and face the body of the voice.
A [tall/short] girl with H/C hair and [shade] E/C eyes stared back at her, eyes shinning in confusion.
"Hello?" The girl called, eyes squinting curiously.
"Oh!" Veronica flinched slightly. "Sorry, my names Veronica Lodge. I'm new here,"
"I'm Y/N,"
Veronica smiled, internally wincing. She was pretty, very pretty.
"Hey Babe," Reggie leaned in, placing a small peck on her lips.
"Hey Reg," She help onto his bicep, the couple looking at Veronica expectantly.
Veronica's eyes observed their figures, her eyes zooming in on the hands on the jock's bicep.
Her eyes widened to saucers, a sparkling pink ring was decorating the girls ring finger. The ring was shaped like vines wrapping around her delicate fingers with a beautiful, small diamond in the middle where the vines connect.
"Wow, that's stunning," She gushed, taking the girl's hand in her own.
"Oh!" The girl blushed, gently taking her hand away. "Thank you, he gave it to me last month," she explained, awkwardly looking around the room.
"You're very lucky," Veronica smiled. "To be with someone so...sculpted and ,dare i say, handsome. You never know who might want to dig their claws in."
Veronica laughed, but Y/N's face darkened and she looked up at Reggie, who was staring at Veronica in disbelief.
Y/N cleared her throat.
"Y-yes. Very lucky..."
-
Veronica huffed, playing with her pearl necklace.
"I told you so." Betty stated, wrapping her lips around her straw.
"Oh, shut up! I'm barely getting started." She snapped "...sorry."
Betty rolled her eyes.
"Honestly, if you even want a chance you're gonna have to sort that attitude," She smiled sarcastically. Ronnie huffed, digging into her chips.
The arrival of new people was announced by the bell.
Veronica looked over, her eyes widening.
"It's Reggie the hunk and his girlfriend." She mumbled to the Cooper girl, who raised a brow.
"And? They're probably out on a date. Leave them be,"
"Hey! Reggie!" She called, causing Betty to widen her eyes and grit her teeth. "Come sit with us,"
Reggie turned to Y/N, whispering something to her. Y/N's eyes creased before shaking her head.
"It looks like Y/N doesn't want to sit with us." Veronica mumbled. Watching as the couple continued to hiss at eachother. "Oh, look at that...Reggie's practically dragging her over here."
"V, dont."
"Hey Reggie," She fluttered her eyelashes, flicking her hair away from her face. "A little eager?"
Y/N's eyes shot between the two.
"I'm just excited to go on a date with Y/N," he confessed, squeezing the girl's hand.
Veronica hummed, shuffling up.
"You can sit next to me Reg," Reggie's eyes shot to her.
"No offense, but i'd prefer if you called me Reggie," He slid into the booth with Ronnie, leaving Betty to sit with Y/N.
"So," Betty smiled. "What were you guys up to?"
Y/N smiled, shoulders relaxing slightly.
"Well, we were just driving around Riverdale." She explained, grinning at Reggie.
"Ooh," Veronica whistled. "Getting frisky in a car are we?"
Y/N scrunched up her face, shaking her head.
"No," Reggie stated, shaking his head. "Just cruising,"
Ronnie rolled her eyes, deflating slightly.
"That's all? Sounds very...tame. i thought you'd be a wild one Reg-gie." She scooted slightly closer, nobody but Betty noticing.
"We enjoy it either way," Y/N interjected, placing a hand on Reggie's " it clears our heads and we can just talk about everything. Or sit in silence if we're not up for talking."
Veronica looked towards the window, hiding her bored expression. In the reflection, she saw the promise ring sparkling. Her eyes lit up.
"I'm seriously so obsessed with your ring," Ronnie gushed, turning towards them. Y/N smiled, fidgeting in her seat. "May i?"
"Hm?" Veronica nodded to the ring.
Y/N's eyes widened.
"Actually-" Veronica grabbed her hand, yanking the ring off, hearing as she clicked Y/N's fingers accidentally.
"Thanks!" She observed the jewel. "Wow, it's actually real,"
"Why wouldn't it be?" Y/N snapped, eyes squinting slightly.
"Well...i-it's just a promise ring," she shrugged. "Why spend so much money on it?"
"Because it ment something to the both of us," Reggie interjected, eyeing his own finger. His one was a simple rose cold band, the same jewel embedded into it. "Plus, she's worth it."
Y/N laughed, a light pink blush blossoming on her cheeks.
Veronica's face twisted into something ugly, her grip tightened on the ring.
"Hey!" Y/N exclaimed. "Careful, you'll break it." She reached for it.
"It's just a promise ring." She stated, her voice dripping with agitation. Moving it out of her reach.
"If it's 'just a promise ring' you can give it back,"
"Hold on." The rich girl hissed. "I'm not done yet!" She caught a glimpse of Betty, who was giving her a disgusted look, her milkshake held tightly in her hands.
She ignored the look, instead she looked at the couple before slowly slipping the ring on.
"W--" Veronica interrupted her.
"Wow. It fits on my hand perfectly."
"Yeah it does," The bulldog stated, "you guys must have simular hands."
"Hmm." She hummed happily. "I've been told my hands are very soft." She purred, sliding closer.
Reggie laughed, looking at Ronnie.
Veronica bathed in this attention, even if it was just a little.
She pulled Y/N's hand off Reggie's, pulling his up against her own.
"See? Matching," She giggled, causing Reggie to smile.
"Yeah..."
Suddenly, Y/N bolted up, snatching Veronica's hand so harshly that it caused Veronica to lurch, making her stomach hit the corner of the table.
Y/N roughly grabbed the ring and snatched it aggressively.
"Look," Y/N started. "I don't know what your problem is Vanessa, but you need to stop. You shouldn't be snatching things that aren't yours. I would say that your parents should of taught you, but then i remember that your Daddy must have not been around often, doing something criminal? Planning to bulldoze a orphanage and turn it into a theme park? He'd make up any excuse to not have to come home to a whiny brat like yourself." Y/N turned, stalking out of Pops.
Reggie trailed after her quickly.
Veronica watched from the window as Reggie grabbed her. From their faces they were arguing.
"What the hell was that?" Betty hissed.
Veronica rolled her eyes.
"She said some shit things too."
"You deserved it!" Betty bellowed, getting up.
"Wait--" Veronica grabbed her. "Where are you going?"
Betty shook her off.
"Away from you."
-
"Hey Reg," Reggie jumped when Veronica appeared suddenly at his locker.
"What you want Victoria?"
Veronica hissed, almost growling.
"Well," Veronica breathed, taking a step closer, smiling up at him innocently. "I thought me and you could go to Pops today? I heard they're doing a 10% off deal."
Reggie sighed.
"Look--"
"Reggie," Cheryl waltzed up to the two, a giant smile on her perfectly painted lips. Her eyes sparkled. "I just wanted to offer my congratulations, you must be very happy."
Reggie rolled his eyes.
"Cheryl--"
"What's going on?" Veronica slid into the conversation, her shoulder rubbing against Reggie.
The ginger observed the two before directing her attention to Reggie.
"Y/N isn't going to like...whatever this is," she pointed to both of them.
"Nothings-"
"-especially now she's pregnant."
Ronnie stiffened, eyes shooting up to Reggie who was staring at Cheryl.
"I don't want everyone to know Cheryl! Y/N's still adamant about people knowing." He hissed.
"Where is she anyway?" The blossom questioned.
"At home," he grumbled "morning sickness."
Cheryl frowned mockingly
"Give her my condolences." She turned to Veronica. "Use protection." She sauntered off.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Veronica asked, turning to face him, arms crossed.
"Why would i need to tell you?"
Veronica bristled.
"B-because...we...i t-thought. Me and--" she stuttered, face burning. "At Pops..."
"Did you think i was making a move on you?" Reggie asked, bewildered.
"Well--"
"Oh god, Lodge. Sorry but no." He shook his head, taking a few steps back. "I never ment for you to think that. You were talking about the ring, so i got comfortable cause I'm used to talking about it."
"But--i,"
"I knew it." Reggie grumbled, shaking his head and running a hand through his dark locks. "I tried to tell Y/N that we should of sat somewhere else, but Y/N said it would be rude. I wish i just dragged her way from you. Stress isn't good for the baby."
Were they actually gonna keep it? At this age??
"Are you actually thinking of keeping it?" She blurted out before covering her mouth.
Reggie's eyes darkened, his body caging Veronica against the lockers.
"I don't know what you're suggesting, Lodge. But you better rein it in. You got no fucking say in what i do with my child. Y/N wants to keep it. So do i. If you have a problem with that then you can fuck off. Cause I'm not hearing any of your excuses." He turned around, storming away...
-
Y/N lay in her bed sipping a hot beverage as she watched her favourite TV show. A soft hand came to rest on her flat stomach. No baby bump yet.
"Y/N?" Reggie entered, topless and in pajama shorts. He climbed into the bed, snuggling up to the georgous girl laid beside him.
"Yeah?"
"Can you turn to channel six?"
Y/N laughed.
"No, get your own TV,"
"Y/N...this is my house.." he whinned, reaching for the remote.
"Nope. I'm pregnant."
"Is that gonna be your excuse for everything?"
"Yup,"
"Ok,"
They laid beside one another, three hearts beating in sinc as they watch the TV that illuminated the room.
"Can i have some hot chocolate?"
"No,"

Hey Feli,do you just live in the painting?
Feliciano: “I do! I live in my magnum opus! The crown jewel of my work.”
Archibald: “He possesses the painting and likes to move about in it. It seems to function as some sort of tiny world within itself, it’s rather strange.”
Elijah: “Also we haven’t been able to figure out why he’s always dripping oil paint and staining it wherever he goes.”
Jean: “And whomever he touches.”
Feliciano: “Oh come on, it’s not that weird! Like Jean’s spooky hole and how Archie smells like old books and fire!”
Jean & Archibald: “FELICIANO!”

Book Review: Loot
Loot by Jude Watson
Tumblr media
Publisher Description:
Hijinks, heists, and high-octane action in Jude Watson's new middle-grade blockbuster!
On a foggy night in Amsterdam, a man falls from a rooftop to the wet pavement below. It's Archibald McQuinn, the notorious cat burglar, and he's dying. As sirens wail in the distance, Archie manages to get out two last words to his young son, March: "Find jewels."
But March learns that his father is not talking about hidden loot. He's talking about Jules, the twin sister March never knew he had. No sooner than the two find each other, they're picked up by the police and sent to the world's worst orphanage. It's not hard time, but it feels like it.
March and Jules have no intention of staying put. They know their father's business inside and out, and they're tired of being pushed around. Just one good heist, and they'll live the life of riches and freedom that most kids only dream about...
Hold on to your pearls, because this summer, the world's youngest criminal masterminds are coming for you.
My Review:
4 out of 5 stars
Genres: adventure, mystery, middle school
Age Range: 10+
This books is for fans of the con-artist, adventure-seeking types. It's reminiscent of an Ocean's Eleven movie. I really enjoyed reading Loot. The store was constantly moving, and the main character March is very charismatic and like-able. March has an unusual upbringing-- his father was one of the greatest con-artists/thiefs in the world. The store beings in Amsterdam where March's father dies on a job. March is left to figure out his father's last words, and the bag of mysteries items he was left.
This book shows us that families come in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes when your biological family leaves you, you need find people to make a new family.
