Sims 3 Through History Challenge
Recently I started the Sims 3 Through History Challenge and I figured why not share my progress here! As I progress through the challenge I will post my progress here. As of creating this post I am on my second generation so we have a little bit to catch up on. This generation has a point system for each generation which I will share at the end of each one.
Generation 1 - Prehistoric
My first generation started with two sims, Kewanee and Mikasi Hoken. The town they started in was Appaloosa Plains, but halfway through after giving birth to 5 of their 6 children, they moved to Dragon Valley for the next generation. I made Kewanee focus on levelling up her gardening and cooking skill and I made Mikasi focus on levelling up his painting skill. Kewanee gave birth to 6 children: Athelesia and Randolph (twins), Wiliame, Ismey, Audouin, and Niki, but they gave birth to Niki after Randolph, the heir, moved out.
Points:
Gardening Skill (female): 10 points
Fishing Skill (male): 5 points
Mastered Painting Skill: 0 points
Mastered Cooking Skill (female): 0 points
Mastered Athletic Skill (male): 5 points
Children Born On Lot: 50 points
Generation 2 - Medieval
This generation starts with the oldest male heir, which in this case is Randolph. After he aged up into a young adult, I moved him out and gave him the lifeguard profession since any male in this generation can have any full-time job. During this he met Shannon MacAnna-O'Shea and tried to date her but found out that she was married so he quickly dropped that. After a few days, he met Merewina Winston, after saving her from drowning. The next day, he wasn't doing anything so he invited Merewina over to his house to hangout. They then started going steady. After that he got really busy with mastering his athletic skill and moving up in the lifeguard profession, but he then made time and went on a date in which he proposed to her and then got married because he was aging up into an adult in 6 days (I didn't manage time well this generation). Once they were married, he moved into Merewina's house together and had a child in which they named Jesse Hoken. A few days later, after Jesse aged up into a toddler, Merewina gave birth to Allen Hoken.

what made you decide to make Híwarránit a Sugarbush? are they your favorite breed of horse? i’m curious because they’re not a super well known breed, so it’s quite cool to see someone make an oc of one!! :>
Thank you! ^^ It was actually because of this picture, it’s a normal draft horse but Appaloosas and draft horses are my favorite horses (for obvious reasons). I love appy mules too, any breed of horse originating from mustangs are super pretty and I take pride in horses my ancestors used and developed. And I was curious about a draft x Appaloosa and I found out they’re called sugar bushes and I love that. I was going to draw her in full horse regalia with travoi but I never got around to it. I like love the history and tradition uses and origins of native horses you have no idea like ggrgrgegeysgaga I go crazy, like omg I could write papers

ooh top 5 patho character designs? or top 5 horses hehe
you get both
top 5 patho character designs:
numero one: YULIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
they don't make them like that no more. she's perfect to me. man's haircut [shares it with dankovsky she's just blonde], the only woman to wear pants, her little shoes, her bat-wings lapel... she's so perfect to me.
numero 2: Aspity P2 i love her rags i love her anisocoria... i love her being an androgynous shawty [who in P1 has the same haircut as Yulia [who has the same as dankovsky just blonde] who is the one woman who canonically loves women & aspity also says. real homosexual shit about aglaya. they got lesbian shawties in this town]
numero 3: Anna P1 i actually really really love her fit. It's giving tragic & vampy tightrope walker/acrobat. it cuts sharply with her soft face and some of her earlier concept arts that make her look all around "softer"
numero 4: katerina saburova P2. i will not lie. i say this out of lust.
numero 5: P1 Albino. I fucking love this thing.
Tumblr media
bonus: i'd actually put here the P2 herb brides not as they are but as what they could be... they fit in that "blank state" category where I'll Handle It From Now On......... they could be so much better. but they're not. so. [ROLLS UP SLEEVES]
top 5 horses:
unsure if you meant Breeds or like. A Horse In General Like One Horse but i'm going to assume breeds
numero one: Mérens.
Tumblr media
my reasoning: read my username boy
numero 2: APPALOOSA..... i love them so much. gorgeous gorgeous coat.. beautiful history... sobbing
Tumblr media
numero 3: Percheron
Tumblr media
it's real massive motherfucker monday. i love how they are born basically black and then slowly get greyer with age.
numero 4: Kladruber. i loooove their dramatic profile
Tumblr media
numero 5: Camargue
Tumblr media
what wouldn't i fucking give to be one. you know.
THANK YOU FOR QUASTION...

May I introduce you to my main lore horses in Star Stable Online! War Path the Paso Fino, Honeybee the Appaloosa, and Brass Demon the Marwari.
These three make up the roster of my character Vivienne’s little troop. She picked them all up one way or another on her travels and they’ve all bonded to her in their own way. She tends to take in the more unsavory or harder to deal with horses. War Path and Brass Demon both for their personalities and Honeybee for her coordination.
War Path is the pseudo leader with Honeybee keeping the boys in check from butting heads too much and Brass Demon as the motivator. They all have pretty detailed histories so I’ll spare you but here’s some simple refs both for practice drawing horses and also for my own visuals

Empires s2 characters and what horse they'd have
Hi. Brainrot about empires and a longstanding fixation on horses led to this. Enjoy <3
(it's a long post btw)
Let's start with the obvious. Sheriff Jimmy Solidarity.
Now obviously he has Bullseye and Arrow, however! I would like to debate their breeds for a bit. I think that while Bullseye has a pattern similar to that of a snowflake leopard appaloosa, I believe he's a full Quarter Horse (normally known as an American Quarter Horse) Fast, turns on a dime, and have a good head on their shoulders. Often used on ranches and such because they're good all rounders while being sturdy and dependable.
(Below has correct coloring)
Tumblr media
(Below has correct breed/conformation)
Tumblr media
Arrow would be a Quarter Horse/Arabian Cross, for the speed and coordination of the Quarter, and the endurance and heat tolerance of the Arabian.
Tumblr media
Now lets talk about the other person with a horse like companion. Princess Katherine.
She has a Unicorn (half skeleton horse??), that is all white. I think she would have a cremello Saddlebred. They're a gaited breed (fancy walk, showy gait) and very flashy. Cremello is a hard color to get, therefore about as valuable as a unicorn /j
Tumblr media
Princess Gem
I love Apollo as much as anyone, however if he were a horse, he would absolutely be a Belgian Draft (specifically a bay). They are big, strong, and were first horses of war (factcheck) then adapted to plow horses. With Dawn's canonical beginnings, I believe a draft would have been a great help in the fields.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Great Witch Shelby
She lives in the swamp, which is not great for horses. However, a pony could fit through the many hanging vines and manuever easier through narrow pathways. I think she would have a Kerry Bog Pony. They're surefooted, hardy, and sound ponies that have a long rich history, but the most important part is that they're used to navigating softer ground because of their origins/home of Kerry (Ireland)
Tumblr media
Joel, God of Lore
Show off, big, strong, bull headed. Normally, I would never let someone who's (supposedly) 11 feet tall ride any horse, because the weight would be harmful to them. However, I would assign him a Clydesdale. Flashy, easy to remember, and definitely the kind of horse you would get attention for. They're also usually patient enough to put up with any inconsistencies or surprises from their riders.
Tumblr media
Fwhip
Shetland Pony. Small, used to pull carts in mines, and feisty as all get out. No further explanation needed XD
Tumblr media
Pixlriffs
I would assign him a mule, as stereotypical as it is. Theyre a very dependable creature, used for packing and riding, and are very sure footed even on mountainous terrain. Overall steady, even if they are stubborn.
Tumblr media
Mayor Lizzie
Halflingers are ponies only by breed, not by size (14 hands or under is considered a pony, however there are certain exceptions). They're all palominos, and all sturdy and stout. They have a variety of personalities, but are usually a favored mount by shorter riders. I think theyre overall steadiness and stubbornness would be good to balance out any uh. feline traits from Lizzie, but they would still match her in fierceness.
Tumblr media
Scott
Now he would have a blanket Appaloosa. Hands down. Do I need to explain? (specifically a chestnut blanket appaloosa <3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oli
He would have an old, run of the mill, done with life, tolerant to the point of apathy, POA (Pony of America. ...its a mutt horse that is short.) Probably one that Fwhip sold to him for an extended debt. I think it would probably be a Chestnut, with a supressed sass to it.
Tumblr media
False
She's so nervous all the time, I think I would give her a retired ranch horse (thus, likely a quarter horse) that could take care of her and lead her back home from wherever they were. It would have seen everything, and probably been used for hunting at least once, therefore any (totally random) blood would be no problem! /hj I think she would probably have an unassuming bay, with a lighter brown coloration to it's body.
Tumblr media
Pirate Joe
Seahorse /j.
In all seriousness, I think I would give him a Paint Chincoteague (shink-o-teeg) Pony. They cross the ocean every year for the round up, and I can absolutely picture Pirate Joe finding a pony on an island and claiming it was the treasure he was meant to find (sea pony!! never been seen before! /j). They can eat seaweed, and iirc they frequently do. Firecrackers they are. Fiesty things with a good heart.
Tumblr media
Sausage
I think he would have a Grey Andalusian (grey as in the specific horse color, not the actual color grey). The Andalusian is an elegant horse that was originally a war horse, but has since evolved into a beloved riding horse. They're all rounders, and very majestic looking. Tall, strong, and beautiful, I think that they would be a good fit for the story that Mythical J. Sausage has going on in season 2.
Tumblr media
And that's all of them! Of course, giving them all horses would be unreasonable given current story lines, but I thought that it was fun, and a very enjoyable project ^-^

6 albums I’ve been listening to a lot lately! Plus one track from each that I’m especially fond of.
tagged by @byronicbi 🥰
i’m more of a playlist listener than an album listener so some of these may be ones i haven’t actually heard in a bit 😂
unheard by hozier -this one’s obvious, i’m a hozier girlie. too sweet is prob my favorite on there, but empire now is a close second
appaloosa bones by gregory alan isakov- i listened this one on repeat when i took the train to chicago in september to see hozier. the title track, appaloosa bones is my favorite and what i loved first
we made a mess in middle america by the way down wanderers- i’ve been following this band since 2017 i think? i’ve lost track of how many shows i’ve gone to and i’ve become friends with the drummer lmao. i had hey honey on repeat when it dropped
i’m cheating and saying all of the crane wives cuz i never pick an album i just listen to the playlist that has all of their music in it- i spent 3 months of 2022 listening to literally nothing but the crane wives i was possessed. curses started it but please listen to their new song, the well, too
guts (spilled) by olivia rodrigo- red introduced lacy to me as a willry song and he was So Right. and there’s a few song on here that slap so it technically makes the list lol

thinking about dog breeds marketed as being a piece of history, I keep getting caught up in dog breeds for whom the real, verifiable, documented history is legitimately a story of resistance and survival.
I had half a post the other day about the well documented fact that indigenous breeds of livestock tend to not survive much past colonial occupation, right? This is especially true if the animals are an important part of indigenous culture, specifically because slaughtering all the animals or forcing indigenous people to cross them to 'improved' colonial strains is an almost ubiquitous piece of the colonialist occupier handbook. Often, after a long period of time, a member of the occupying colonizing culture will come in, scrape up whatever minimal pieces are left, outcross to a bunch of other strains, and start using the unstoppable, tragic story of loss to market the animals they now consider "theirs" to their fellows, generally without input from the living descendants of the strain's original creators. Sometimes, as with the American Indian Dog people, no obvious single breed or landrace actually even existed and they merge a whole bunch of cultures' animals together into a homogeneous mash-up!
Once the story is set, these storytellers will start breeding their animals according to their own fashions and values, because the story is only important insofar as it provides an exotic origin; it's not important in terms of creating cultural connection to the people who are mentioned in those origins. Often, when genetic tests are done and compared to pre-contact animals, it turns out that there's almost no trace of the originating strain left in any case. Often there are just no animals left after the one-two punch of decimation and drowning in modern genomes, and reconstruction can do as it will.
This is the story of the Appaloosa horse, the Araucana chicken, the Samoyed, the Alaskan Malamute, the Carolina Dog, basically every generic American Indian Dog project I am aware of, the Chihuahua, and a number of others. I am not familiar enough with with the history of Peruvian Orchid or Xolo to say there offhand, but I wouldn't be surprised.
(Sometimes a similar phenomenon occurs without the directed slaughter and forcible removal of indigenous control over their native animals, as with Saluki, Arabian horses, Basenji, and Afghan Hounds. This is more likely if the indigenous animals are not especially valued by the indigenous culture, as with Basenji, or if local colonization is not especially preoccupied with eradicating and assimilating local culture, as with British occupation of the Middle East.)
In recent decades, I've noted Saluki, Basenji, and Arabian breeders beginning to do more reaching out to cultures of origin and incorporating at least their modern dogs into the pedigree gene pools, as well as sometimes incorporating the actual opinions of those cultures on dog selection and breeding. This is awesome. More of that, please.
But there are also indigenous breeds and landraces out there that have survived colonization within the hands of their originating people!
Take the Sapsali of South Korea. During the Japanese colonial period, these dogs were slaughtered in huge numbers to make coats for Japanese soldiers and as a way of subjugating Korean culture. But very few survived, and they are in the process of being carefully managed by South Korean breeders to bring them back as a larger population. (The Jindo was the only South Korean dog breed to escape deliberate Japanese attempts at eradication, because it resembles Japan's own indigenous dog breeds and this was felt to be a plus. This doesn't mean that they weren't also slaughtered in huge numbers to be turned into coats; it just means that Japanese colonial efforts weren't actively trying to exterminate them.)
Greenland Dogs and Canadian Inuit Dogs hold a similar story of survival despite pressure to give the dogs up (including dog seizures and killings by the RCMP in the case of the Canadian dogs).
There are also reconstruction projects being undertaken by colonized peoples who are cheerfully agnostic about retaining unbroken genetic connection to their ancestral animals.
The Nez Perce horse, for example, is a Nez Perce-owned and managed effort to recreate their original horses--at the time renowned as long distance, fast endurance animals--using Akhal-Teke crosses to restore the original phenotype, away from the more common Quarter-Horse-like stock horses that characterize many of the animals currently registered as Appaloosas.
There are also some murmurings about potentially attempting to recreate the extinct Salish Woolly Dog with or without genomic assistance from preserved hides. That would be wild and incredibly cool, reconstruction or not.

ykw? i'm going to cheat bc i need that delicious content,👃 💞 for Dan pls
ayyy ella, bless you for these!! that second question is one i actually wanted to cover hehe~ 💛
Tumblr media
👃 does your oc smell good? do they have a signature scent?
oh, daniel smells amazing. apart from the oils he uses in his beard and mustache, he seems to carry a natural scent of warm mahogany, burnt tobacco, wood fires, and appaloosa plains dirt. he smells like an old and homey barn, abandoned for years but still full of hay and sweet memories. he smells like the rich burn of a cigar in a smoky saloon, very earthy and dark. there's a little spritz of cologne here and there, a faint scent of sandalwood, flannel if you sus it out. he smells like something you want to bury your face in and never leave.
no i am not thirsty for my own damn sim nO I'M NO--
💞 do they treat sex casually or do they view it as something with a lot of emotional weight?
a BRILLIANT question, and it will definitely pertain to the challenge! daniel is not a very sexual guy (hence his fluster at being turned on by rune while very, very cross-faded) and while he is aware of his natural dominance and the ways in which he's very physical, he actually puts a lot of weight and importance into sex and isn't a very horny person in public. (at least... while not in a relationship ;p) growing up as he did, he would have been absolutely murdered is his father ever learned about his sexuality - so that lead to years and years of denial, compulsive heterosexuality, and a general disdain for his sexual self.
daniel feels very vulnerable during sex, even when he's in a dominant position. (he is a switch!) the aspects of his history with his sexuality come into this, naturally, but there's also the reality that what he likes to do and have done to him is very personal!! he doesn't have one-night stands, he doesn't go out on dates - he lives in a big ranch with his three dogs and his horses man!! this dude is simultaneously uninterested and pent tf up.
but daniel will not have sex with anyone before they have a real, tangible connection. he is loyal and develops deep attachments to the people he's had sex with. and, in the biggest switch-up i can think of in this challenge, he will not be having sex with both of our finalists, either! he is either going to be a wedding night man, or i'll leave it dubious as to who got dan into bed on their final nights! how could he possibly look his finalist in the eye when he's boned their competition??? that's just not how he rolls.
(which also means, my dear friends, that daniel will not be kissing anyone in front of the other contestants. he's going to have a hard time with this once we get up there and our number of sims drop, but he's committed to it! the first kisses we'll ever see will be on solo dates alone~)

While working on all this modding, I'm finding it hard to do much posting on my two "serious" narrative challenges -- the Sample Legacy and the Echo in Time historical challenge. I also was kind of planning on adding new gameplay to the Wonderlands ISBI only after I got the tumblr recap completed. But then I didn't queue new recap posts because I was interleaving that content with other content that I wasn't writing.
However, I started using the Riffin family in Appaloosa Plains as test sims, and I kind of fell in love with them. So I started a separate game with them just to relax. It doesn't have much in the way of rules, and it might not go more than one generation, and there's no story narrative. I figure I might post some of that interleaved with my Wonderlands recap.
I'm amused to realize that in my entire history with TS3, I have never played a premade family. I guess the standard thing is to create your own sim and have that sim interact with the premades, including possibly marrying one and moving them in. It's kind of fun to just grab a family and go. The Riffins have a sweet-sad backstory and distinct faces, even with a bit of EA pudding. Calvin Riffin is just adorable.
BTW: I am actually PLAYING the Samples right now. I just have no posting energy to tell their story.

hello!! ^-^ can I ask u a horse therian question? how exactly did u go about figuring out what kind of horse u are? there are so many.. do u have any tips?
The simple, cliche answer is research and intuition. Being cliche isn't a bad thing. I did a lot of looking at breeds, coat colors, coat genetics and just used some intuition. Spotted coats have always been a consistent trait I've been drawn to in horses as well as smaller sizes so I started there.
What types of traits are you drawn to? Large size? Dished faces? Feathering on the legs? Pinto coats? Dorsal stripes? And sometimes even things like even certain time periods you are interested can be a factor as well. Ngl I attribute mid-industrial/early 1900's when it comes to how I feel about my horse past life so currently I see my theriotype as a little work pony that pulls carts because I feel as though my horse past life comes from a time before automobiles completely overtook the horse's everyday usefulness. (I'm not a history buff or anything so I could have time frames a bit wrong but I can learn more if someone wants to teach me :D )
Another thing to keep in mind is that a modern breed standard isn't an end-all-be-all to defining a horse, either. A halter-bred Arabian isn't the same as another Arabian that is used for riding but still has all it's papers proving it's lineage. An Arabian bred by Bob two counties away who sold a horse to a local stable won't be the same either. It really just depends on what traits are favorable for certain breeders if they even care about that. Plenty of people breed spotted ponies to make "appaloosa Shetland Ponies" because they are popular. That's why I settled on not being a specific breed even though I still the find British Spotted Pony or a Falabella as relatable purebreds. Those were typically the first results that show up when I used Google to look for stuff. Another thing is that you don't have to stick to rigid real-world standards, too. If you feel like you are a fictional breed of horse or even a specific fictional individual horse that could be a thing, too. Fictherians are a thing as well and that doesn't make you any less of a horse if you are say Epona from the Legend of Zelda franchise or Joey from War Horse.
And you don't even have to devote hours and hours of time to research just to PROVE that you are X type of horse. If you're just flipping through a "horse and pony breeds" book you found at the local library or Google Images and you get that "this is me!" feeling that's good enough as well.
