As much as I love to give Stede the business for having trademark Gay People Obliviousness and not even connecting his feelings towards Ed until well after their split, I’ve realized a lot of that probably has to do with his self-worth struggles.

Because like, here is this gorgeous, skilled, dangerous, legendary man, and he falls right head over heels for Stede. And I imagine Stede cannot envision a more ludicrous and outlandish concept. In his eyes, there is absolutely no way he can be loved that deeply and that quickly, especially not by someone he idolizes- someone as extraordinary as Blackbeard.

It also doesn’t help that he’s never really had true love at all, so he didn’t properly recognize it even when it held his face and looked him right in the eyes. His life has also been a deluge of mockery, bullying, and degradation, so it’s no wonder it took him a good while to catch up.

So Ed can put his life on the line for him, vocalize how happy and at ease he is with his new surroundings (as long as Stede is there with him), touch Stede tenderly, and kiss him right on the mouth, but that’s still not enough. With all Stede’s gone through, there’s still room for incredulousness.

There’s still a part of him that thinks that there’s just no possible way this is real.

Some art is about just experiencing something you haven't before. Some art just wants you to sit there for 2 or 20 or 35 or 150 minutes and experience what is happening without a meaning or other purpose beyond the experience itself. By the way. And sometimes the outcome is that you learn how to exist in that state of experiencing, because it forced you into it once and it clicked in your brain, and then in your day to day life you might again access that state of just experiencing. Standing and watching the sunset with the sound of traffic all around you and just experiencing that. Not even necessarily enjoying it, not getting anything more out of it than what it is. Idk.

If you're on the app, immediately go to your dms and then "add friends". After the latest update they allow your contacts to find you and have that option turned on by default, so make sure it's unchecked!

This is very obviously not great for a multitude of reasons, but especially for people in vulnerable positions who do not want people in their contacts to see who they are on discord and/or know they have discord in the first place. I've also tried finding out if this is a thing on desktop but haven't been able to find any mention of it, so either it's not a "feature" (yet) or they've hidden it. Either way, stay safe, and turn off finding friends via contacts!
