All of the Cersei discourse in the fandom lately has been disappointing because so much of it flattening her into either woobie victim or innately evil crazy lady, while the whole point of her character is that she’s both a victim and a perpetrator.
She was abused by Robert and sold like property like Tywin, but in turn she abuses those she recognizes can’t fight back like Sansa, Margaery, or Tommen, because she learned from her father that “strength” means domination and stomping on those beneath you in the hierarchy. She shaped Joffrey into a monster because she believed that’s what a king should be. She sees the gendered violence that’s been inflicted on her and instead of rejecting the misogyny that permeates Westerosi culture, she decides that women in general deserve it but she doesn’t because she’s special and actively perpetuates it on others. She is the embodiment of the rot that has been eating the House Lannister alive since Tywin, with his obsessive fear of being laughed at or disrespected, tried to turn them into discount Targaryens.

Remember, Clear Sky can NEVER have a consequence for his actions. Ever. If you're ever mad at him for any reason, YOU will be punished for being upset. Clear Sky is allowed to do anything he wants to you but if you don't start slurping you're the Real Bad Guy.

But don't worry, Snake is punished for the high crime of embarrassing Clear Sky by being dogpiled by the Clap At Baby Crowd.

Clear Sky poses this dumb speech about fighting One Eye like it's some big, beautiful, selfless act of service. He was ALWAYS going to do this-- HE WANTS HIS AUTHORITY BACK. He's ALWAYS been an ambitious asshole who hates taking orders from other people, and will clobber anyone who embarrasses him or offends his massive ego.
He's been like this since SUN TRAIL. He's ALWAYS been controlling and fragile with a hunger for power. There has NEVER been a version of Clear Sky that wouldn't have wanted to kill One Eye for taking his toys away, humiliating him publicly.
His piss-poor judgement has gotten DOZENS of people killed in pointless border skirmishes, in the First Battle, and now AGAIN to this tyrant. He had a fit like a child when people tried to warn him it was a bad idea, and he didn't listen!
Snake is the first cat who's done anything about it at this point. The only one who doesn't immediately cave and forgive him after Clear Sky puts on a display of crocodile tears. It's LONG overdue!
And yet, all these cats still gather around to come to his aid. They have NO reason to do this. Clear Sky has proven, OVER AND OVER, that he should NOT HAVE ANY AUTHORITY OVER PEOPLE. These cats have NO reason to trust him, they've all been screamed at, smacked around, and buried mauled loved ones because of him.
They've seen, at most, a month of two of peace under him following the greatest massacre in history, broken by yet ANOTHER bad call.
Writer's pet! Some guy on the writing team ABSOLUTELY projects themselves onto Clear Sky as some kind of power fantasy. There's no other explanation for this level of utter ineptitude.

i think i’ve learned a lot when it comes to not applying my own values to the media i consume
for my script analysis class yesterday, we discussed two gentleman from verona, and nearly every classmate of mine was up in arms about how sexist the story is.
and i'm not saying it's not, or that it's not infuriating to read. but i'm also not putting my energy into getting upset about something written 500 or so years ago. and i'm not about to put my own beliefs onto these characters that are not me. i'm going to let their choices speak for themselves, and interpret it in the context of the story.
all that said, this now brings me to the point of alastor in episode 5, and how viscerally people are responding to it. those of you up in arms about the choices he’s making, and the violent threat he gave husk, you’re missing the entire point of his character, of this place they’re in, of the story being told. he’s an overlord, and he became an overlord by killing much bigger overlords and broadcasting their deaths over the radio.
HE IS NOT A GOOD PERSON.
if you started this show with the belief that every character working the hotel is a good person, you’re in the wrong place. watch the good place if you’re looking for a good wholesome story about getting dead sinners into heaven, because that’s not what this show is about.
you’re more than welcome to hate him after seeing the way he exerted power over a being whose soul he owns, but you’re doing the media you’re watching a disservice by writing it off so quickly. if you don’t like to be uncomfortable watching media, watch something else. this is an uncomfortable show, it handles uncomfortable topics, and it’s going to be an uncomfortable ride, and if you’re not up for something like that, then you should take a break from it and pick up something else. you don’t have to get online and defend your own ideals while you watch a show that goes against your ideals.

People in this fandom will really look at The Fool, Patience, Lacey, Carson, Sedric, Hest, Davvie, Lecter, Kennit, Ash/Spark, and yes, even Fitz himself, and still have the gall to call it queer bait.
These characters are explicitly queer, their actions impact the narrative, they are well written, and their identities are treated with respect. That is the best possible queer representation you could ask for in any story.
I've seen people on tumblr basing the likelihood of if they read this series on whether or not it's "actually gay" and I'm here to tell you that it is. There are queer characters. There are queer protagonists. And no matter what you see people in the fandom say, Robin Hobb wrote some amazing queer representation in a genre that rarely sees it at all.
EDIT: and I think it's pertinent to note that, no, characters who are questioning or struggling with their feelings about sexuality instead of knowing 100% does not make something queer bait or "less gay"
TLDR;
Queer bait = disrespectful marketing ploy that exploits queer audiences
Queer bait ≠ "my two favorite characters never have sex"

i dont understand Paimon haters. thats my best friend, she’s LITERALLY just a silly little guy. Sometimes I worry that Ith is too monstrous--- too nasty and not glittery enough. But really, she's a love letter to nature vs nurture with nature winning --- how even the beauty of nature can be followed by cruelty. She's a love letter to weird girls that get seen as disgusting; weird girls who don't fit the mold of normal. She's the testament of how the prettiest of blossoms are the most poisonous. She's a lonely, lovesick abomination that doesn't care about being heroic, that doesn't want redemption.
Ithaca is a monster in the shape of girl as well as a girl in the shape of a monster.
And I don't think I'd want her any other way.

Hey Matsuda lover anon once again. Im so sorry for getting annoying about matsuda-yoosung dynamic in your asks all the time. I just love love your takes on the two men's dynamic.
I just saw in the tags about Matsuda and Yoosung sharing local snacks from each other's countries (Japan and Korea respectively) i just got this thought in my head
So there are certain snacks which are very popular in both the countries respectively but are known by different names and sometimes produced by different brands like Japan has Pocky sticks from the Glico company and Korea has Pepero sticks from the Lotte company.
Another snack both the countries share is...Fish Shaped Cakes. In Japan they are known as Taiyaki and in Korea they are called Bungeoppang. And I just thought of a moment between the two men related to fish shaped cakes around the time they had just began to learn each others languages and are yet to be fluent and occasionally spoke english
I imagined that on one fine day while the two men were walking around the town, talking to each other, yoosung notices a guy selling fish shaped cakes on his cart and exclaims "Oh Bungeoppang! I missed them!" and runs towards the cart. An initially confused Matsuda goes "wait what!" and notices his younger friend near the taiyaki cart and quickly walks towards it. Meanwhile yoosung was struggling to explain the taiyaki guy that he wants two taiyakis cuz the latter couldnt understand him. Matsuda who was standing right behind Yoosung calmly explains the seller to give them two taiyakis.
An embarassed yoosung takes out his wallet to pay the guy to which matsuda responds by gently pushing the younger man's hands as yoosung was trying to take out a few currency notes. Matsuda nods his head and winks at him, gesturing the younger man that he will pay for the taiyakis.
The two men are now sitting near a lake enjoying their taiyakis and talking in between.
"Matsuda hyung you never let me pay for anything!"
"When I go to your place, you will pay for stuff okay"
"When will you come to my place"
"When I get time, my days have been very busy"
"I hope you come soon, you will really like it. I will introduce you to the rest of my friends"
"Okay"

AHHH Matsuda being invited to RFA parties from then on is something that hasn't crossed my mind, but you are SO right on that! It's a wonderful opportunity to network, practice your spoken Korean, and do some charity work.
That said, I can't blame Yoosung for being a bit clumsy when it comes to food you thought you knew so well. I know I would react the same way. There is something exciting about seeing familiar treats in a different country! I bet this would encourage a long discussion on all the different snacks and foods between them. They definitely make a small bucket list each on what foods they would like to try. Yoosung is a huge food lover, so that's definitely up his alley, while Matsuda just enjoys trying out new things, especially with good company. Food trips are such a fun activity to plan!
And that little exchange between them that you wrote out? I love it so much. Yoosung calling Matsuda 'hyung', and Matsuda playfully reassuring him on not bothering with payment while he's the one visiting... it's the kind of laid-back friendship that makes me smile. They are buddies your honor!
