Hannibal season three is making enemies out of my mother and I - she grows ever angrier at Hannibal (unfeeling psychopath incapable of love according to her) and is the most rampant Will Graham apologist you will ever meet; she is convinced that Will has not been accountable for his actions since meeting Hannibal, that he’s been brainwashed and basically forced to act as he does, and is in actuality an innocent victim 😭 every time we try talking about any of this, both of us get sulky lol

“Mike wheeler’s armpit of a basement”
“I’ve seen Mike’s room look worse than this”
“I was being a total self pitying idiot”
“Why am I the bad guy”
“One day she’s going to realize that I’m just some random nerd”
“At least Lois Lane is an ace reporter for the Daily Planet”
“I’ve been bullied my whole life”
“Mike’s always whining about it”
“And yet you still have a C in Spanish”
“You can’t even write it Mike”
“You made it super clear that you’re not interested in anything I have to say”
“-and if I said that thing then maybe she’d want me there with her, wherever she is”
“The bad government dudes are after your super-girlfriend right? Right?! Okay, so, maybe the cops can help us find out where she is because they’re gonna kill her, man. And if they kill her, there gonna kill us!”
“Oh, no, no, no, no- it’s a shitty knock off, yeah”
“Who’s that twig with her?”
“That doesn’t mean he’s wrong. I mean, if that guy would’ve lived one more second- one more second- th- we could know where she is. Wh-why didn’t he just say the number? I-I should’ve explained myself, cuz then maybe, Eleven would’ve taken me with her and things would be different but I-I didn’t know what to say”
“And I feel like maybe I-I was worrying too much about El, and I don’t know, maybe I feel like I lost you or something”
“Y’know the last few days, I’ve had to think about the last talk we had. You know, before the cops and the whole word went to shit and everything? I- I guess- I just- I- I dunno- I guess I just wanted to- to say-”
“But… but what if after all of this is over… sh-she doesn’t need me anymore?”
“No I… it’s so stupid, given everything that’s going on. It’s just… I… I don’t know. I just”
“I, love you.”
Mike’s flopping on the floor like a miserable and suffocating fish out of water season. His friends make fun of him. Eddie made fun of his clothes. Karen told Dustin he’s welcome at the Wheeler’s anytime which implies that Mike isn’t really talking to his friends outside of school. Dustin and Mike didn’t know when Lucas’ basketball game was, which implies that they haven’t really been talking to Lucas a lot. Mike did call the Byers but wasn’t able to get through. El and Will are have been in Lenora for months and Mike hasn’t really been able to talk to either of them. El’s been lying to him in her letters and writing and signing letters is a reminder that he’s avoiding writing the word love. Everyone’s telling him that he’s doing something wrong. This kids going through it.

thinking about Percy’s fall.
as far as I remember, in the book, Percy was falling directly into the water below. in the show a column of water grabs him into the river.
that’s a way of them portraying that Poseidon did care for Percy as he went out of his way to help him escape death, especially when gods have always been forbidden to help their children in their quests - unless a sacrifice was done.
this act of defiance to me speaks volumes about Poseidon's love for Percy, as he is willing to break the rules to ensure his safety and survival. but to Percy? this could be seen as him barely surviving because his father needed him to save him. so it’s a very complex dynamic where Percy's survival becomes a means for Poseidon's future plans/needs while also being a testament of his care.

One specific thing I'm thinking about Lieutenant Edward Little today concerns his relationship with Hickey.
I cannot for the life of me find it now but I'm sure I've seen a post here detailing the full depth of the "A full court-martial is technically required..." line in Episode Four. How there's a lot more to it than meets the eye and is Little really trying very hard to curb Crozier's worst urges, trying to insist on a controlled, by-the-book approach to punishment rather than an abusive, bloody, psychologically-tortuous one.
And if that is indeed the case then that's very interesting to me as it's not the only time Little speaks somewhat in Hickey's defence.
I'm thinking of his asking "What is our evidence against him?" at Terror Camp, of how he's very much right to do so because at that point, he's not been given any information to confirm Hickey's guilt other than Crozier's word (although of course, proper evidence is produced right afterwards).
He's seen Crozier come down on Hickey before with every awful, savage, psycho-sexual thing he's got so it makes perfect sense that Little would try to get out in front of that in any way he can, to prevent at best further cruelty and at worst, further violent injustice.
I don't really have a point to be honest - it's just an interesting little parallel that makes me read those scenes just that wee bit differently now.

The thing I love most about PayuRain and PrapaiSky double dating is being able to see how much Rain's first impression of Prapai changed.
At first he was wary (Prapai suddenly introduced himself out of nowhere during a race, when Payu wasn't around), then Rain started to think favorably of him for no good real reason at all (Rain's logic: Prapai is Payu's best friend >> Payu is a respectable young man >> Prapai must be the same) just to finally understand how shameless Prapai actually is, on episode 12.
I LOVED seeing Rain shutting Prapai up with zero chills given, in the Special Episode. Everyone and their aunties might make fun of Rain for being a genuinely clueless guy all around, but I wholeheartedly approve of Prapai becoming the butt of Rain's jokes, since (to me) Prapai's courting gave off pretty pathetic vibes at times (well, he was quite desperate to get Sky's attention and love)... I adore that out of everyone, it's Rain that would not let Prapai live this down 😆

"Good children's television lets the child characters learn lessons for themselves. Adults can provide inspiration or help, but the children should take initiative for their own discoveries and come to conclusions based on their experiences.
Bad children's television has the adults tell the children all the lessons and information they should learn. The children are only there as stand-ins for an audience that the writer wants to preach this information to and passively absorb the lessons rather than taking an active role in their own story."
I find it quite ironic when a genre becomes exactly what they were trying to act as an alternative for.
Because the point of children's entertainment is that it educates in a more entertaining and engaging way than school, you know by letting the kids enjoy fun adventures. Kids don't like being lectured or talked down to, either in school or in their television. It's why they love kid heroes.
You can so very much tell when a children's show is written by someone who remembers what it's like to be a child and respects children as human beings, and when it's written by someone who thinks it's their duty to Educate The Youth so they become Knowledgeable Adults. A children's show has to understand that the audience is already smart before they can begin to teach them anything.
#answered asks#adventures in writing#i am still so angry over that painful curious george episode#where george suddenly doesn't know what a shadow is#(even though there's an ENTIRE EPISODE about groundhog day)#and four-year-old allie comes out and explains it's his shadow#and then says#i kid you not#'my teacher says that a shadow comes when our bodies block the light'#(perhaps not an exact quote but 'my teacher says' was definitely used and it still pains my every nerve)#and then george wonders something about shadows#and where the earlier seasons were BUILT around george having questions#and then trying out different ways to find answers and solutions#in THIS episode allie says they should just ask the man with the yellow hat#and the man with the yellow hat TELLS them about shadows#in a similar vein there's another late episode where george wonders about migrating birds#(somehow everyone figures out he has these detailed questions even though all he does is grunt and point)#and the man with the yellow hat ponders it while they're shopping#and then I KID YOU NOT professor wiseman shows up and is like 'i can tell you the answer'#it pains me so much i am so enraged for the sake of the children who deserve better#unfortunately my niece has no taste and has not noticed she is being fed inferior mental fare#she just likes watching the japanese monkeys slide down the snow dragon#(which is one of the better parts of one of the later episodes)#(that at least feels of a piece with some of the ghostwritten picture books)#(even though that ENTIRE EPISODE is otherwise 'people tell george things while vapid light pop music plays)
