Do you have any Predictions for the next season?
spoilers in the undercut
hmm I think a lot of ppl agree that the next season will most likely b focusing on MK learning how to control his monkey form
Tumblr media
I mean the guy really goes feral whenever he pulls out the monkey side- other than that I REALLY hope the “Erlang is the shadow figure” theory turns out to b true OR my main theory is that Peng comes back
okok here’s a mini theory on peng
Tumblr media
I feel like there is more to their character than what is lead on BUT maybe that’s just me being biased- I mean they DID mention Ao lie while fighting mei, WHAT WAS THEIR CONNECTION WITH HIM (i’m delulu and thinking too much into it 🐁)
ANOTHER thing why I think Peng is important is because of the way they ran off. I know A LOT of ppl don’t like them, especially with the way they ran away instead of helping Azure Lion
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
BUT despite what ppl may think, Peng DEFINITELY cared for azure lion- I MEAN LOOK AT THE WAY THEY DEFENDED AZURE LION WITH *NO* HESITATION❗️AND LOOK AT THE WAY THEY WERE WORRIED ABT HIM IN THE TABLE SCENE
It’s obvious they cared for him, IMO they just saw it was too late to save him as Azure was already curropt with power- which is why i feel they’re DEFINITELY gonna comeback I mean WHY leave Azure if they were so loyal to him, were they just simply cowardly?? Or did they see it was too late to save him, just like Yellow Tusk ALSO realized?? Maybe they’ll come back and interact with Yellow Tusk again or maybe they’ll come back with the Mayor?? I mean they did share the same fate
Tumblr media
I mentioned Ao Lie before and yes I do believe in the theory that he may be alive. Think abt it. When Mei, Tang, Sandy, and Pigsy got trapped in the scroll, they all played as the jttw crew except Mei. Why tho? Not to mention this specific scene that bothers me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everyone shows their face EXCEPT for Ao Lie. Again maybe i’m thinking too much into it but this scene bothers me idk why?? Maybe we’ll get more answers abt him in season 5
scratches head. idk how to end this- erm anyway look at this image

Seeing that you mentioned Kui Mulang, the curious thing is that in LMK, Kui Mulang is seen as a kind of devoted husband while in the book he betrays his wife without hesitation (makes me wonder if the writers will play with that, who knows). His wife deserves better.
From what people who have read the books have said, Azure Lion also participated in the war, being a Yaoguai of the Jie Sect.
PLEASE do tell me more about Kui Mulang because I have yet to reach his part in investiture of the gods (apparently he is made a deity by Jiang Ziya after partaking in the Battle of A Thousand Immortals (?)) and I am very very curious about him he seems so hecking neat—also i did NOT read him as a doting husband in LMK i thought he was creepy LMAOJDDKND
It’s the… it’s… the romanticization of waiting for someone over a thousand years and then kidnapping them… against their will… like.. hm. Having knowledge of his kidnapping of his spouse when she becomes a mortal with no previous knowledge of him or their romance and then seeing the show is… funky! So funky! Uhm! Anyway!
I don’t remember seeing anything on Book!Azure Lion partaking in a war… would love to learn more on that.

Do you think Red Son grew up hearing stories about the brotherhood?
Do you think he idolized the camel ridge trio? These were fierce warriors who fought alongside his father after all. The ones who stood up to the heavens and fought back.
What if he practiced and polished his spells to a mirror shine so he could one day present them to Yellow Tusk? Or if he spent extra time on his aircrafts so he could fly side by side with Peng? How much time did he spend honing his fighting skills so he could spar with Azure Lion?
What must have been his reaction when he answered the door to his family home only to be met with his childhood heroes? Do you think he was all nerves as he spoke of the stories he was told as a child as they stared down at him with a mix of surprise, pity, and just a hint of disgust?
How must he have felt when they tore his family apart for the third time in his life?

Could we say that all the heavenly Yaoguai who are "pets" or "mounts" hate their situation like Jade Rabbit and Azure Lion?
I really don't think so...
Azure Lion didn't hate being with Manjusri. Just that the first time he was deliberately asked by his master to take over the Wuji Kingdom for his revenge. And the second time was because he was snub an invitation to the peach festival, not cause he hated his master. Jade Rabbit only became a yao because they were after revenge on Su'e for kicking them in their rabbit form. They didn't hate being Chang'e's pet, just that they wanted to cause problems on purpose.
Neither of these really 'hate' being a pet just that they had desires of either revenge or power and intact that through evil schemes. And I think that most pets of heaven feel similar since they all are subdued by their masters and go back with them willingly.

Hehe what do you think of Season 4 Lmk?
Though I haven't watch it yet but I will watch it when there's English subtitle but If you haved already watch it what do you think? :D
I feel safe answering this now without spoiling anyone.
I really enjoyed Season 4 of LMK, like if you asked me who stole the show, I would not be able to point out just one person or pair.
I even wanna give a shout out the accounting demon, who showed off her badass side protecting Yin and Gin (I swear she’s gotta be their sister, or cousin or some kind of family member cause I can’t imagine her protecting them like that other wise. I also can’t see her being hired help either since Yin and Gin always give this kind of broke as a side walk vibe.)
MK and Monkey, these two balls of sunshine just swell my heart with so much emotions during all their shared screen time.
MK and Mei are the best lovable, supportive, goofballs around.
MK and Macaque with baby monkey had me happy flapping so much. I love how even though Macaque is on the ‘good side’ he hasn’t become goodie goodie, but still tries to help in his own ways, and even became; dare I say, comforting when he saw MK flickering between forms.
Pigsy and Tang not only get great arch’s as individuals this season, but as a pair as well. Season 3 we got to see them really supporting one another but this season showed us how deep these two are dedicated to each other. Label their relationship however you want to, but no one can deny that Pigsy and Tang care a lot about each other (and their shared love of food).
All the interactions between Past Macaque and Wukong have me crying in the corner, both in joy and in sadness.
I would say the only person out of the main cast that got the short end of the stick would be Sandy. I love Sandy but this season didn’t really let him have a chance to shine. Even the ep with past Sandy, was more about Pigsy’s development and character growth then it had to do with Sandy’s. Outside of creating a blimp for the team to travel on, Mo did more than Sandy.
Mo not only hid Tang from the remaining Brotherhood group/ thus showing Tang Azure’s true intentions but was also the one that triggered Sandy’s memories to come back. Now let that sink in… MO the CAT who I swear has Sans from Undertales transportation abilities, had more of an impact on the plot than SANDY.
Even the small cameo that the Demon Bull Family had was a lot more impactful not only to the plot but emotionally impactful as well. Like DBK is such a disastrous Bi, that loves those who can step on him. Getting to see the beginning of PIF and DBK’s romance was a treat that I’m so glad was given to us. I think PIF only had one line this whole season, but that soft loving and fearful worry as she says ‘my love’ hit me in the feels so hard. SHE ONLY HAD ONE LINE BUT THIS QUEEN MADE IT COUNT FOR SO MUCH! Then poor Red Son not only had to watch both his parents get ripped away (AGAIN!!!!) I would say he got the most horrifying sucked into the scroll scene out of anyone this season. Azure really did not hold back on his hate for BDK’s and PIF’s Son. I say this, as I’m 90% sure Azure’s hate towards Red Son is more about Red Son being a product of BDK’s and PIF’s union than about Red Son personally. (So glad the bull family was part of the beach scene at the end of the S4 special, they needed this Vacation Day just as much as he main cast. Like can we go at least one season without tearing down/apart this family that’s trying to recover from not only their individual trauma but their group trauma as well? Please!)
Also it was just so cool seeing Red and Nezha standing side by side, readying themselves for the battle to come. (Not quite as cool as the shot of Red standing side by side with Macaque, but a close second.) I have feelings and theories revolving around Nezha and this season that I will save for a later post.
Inky, or Ink MK was such a delightful addition to the antagonist group, with so much potential and versatility, that I’m hoping we see a return of them in some form or another in the coming season.
Peng was is such a fun, bitchy love to hate you character that really made the most out of every single frame they were in.
Tusk is a little harder, he really didn’t get much time to show his personality till the special. (Outside of the fact that he likes to give big hugs <3). Thankfully the special did give use a better look at Tusk, and show off not only his more reasonable side, but how deeply he cares about his friends, even after he was captured he doesn’t regret him and his friends intentions. But I feel sorry for the big guy as I feel he must be feeling retry lost now that’s Azures gone and Peng seemingly abandoned them. I bet poor Tusk didn’t put up much of a fight when he was captured, cause he probably doesn’t even know what to do with himself now that all he values so dearly is gone.
Now for Azure, sweet heaven and hell, Azure Lion. I…. I am not normal about him. I haven’t been this not normal for an LMK character since Possessed Wukong, and anyone who fallows me knows how that turned out. I’ll probably do a post just in dedication of Azure, because that lion boy has got me feeling so many feelings, but right now I am still not okay from his ending so please send Azure fanfic suggestions, to help aid in my recovery.

Hi It's been forever since I sent you an ask, I'm sorry 😔
TO FIX THIS
I'd like to ask about any personal head canons about everyone's new favorite whore Azure. (Loved your drawing of him btw, he feels complete with the tail and especially the whiskers)
i have more QUESTIONS for him than hcs dkdhdjdn but heres some stupid thoughts i have:
- jovial but fairly serious most of the time, so when he hits someone with a dad joke theyre never expecting it, and he WILL hit em with a dad joke. if you dont laugh he will begin to explain the joke, so please laugh
- since he was in a scroll showing him his absolute worse memories and fears for thousands of years, hes a little... off-balance mentally rn. he would usually have taken some time to assess how things are in the modern age first before acting, but seeing his worst fears over and over convinced him the worst case scenarios he saw will come to pass if he doesnt do something drastic
- they could defeat him by giving him a nice sunbeam to lie in
- shARPENS HIS CLAWS ON FURNITURE IF U DONT WATCH HIM!!
- was VERY unsure what to do with the little monkeys on ffm when he first visited. tried to treat them like regular people until swk explained that most of them were just very intelligent regular monkeys not demon monkeys and couldnt understand him
- when azure left heaven, the final straw was a huge argument he had with someone in charge about how things were being run. peng followed him originally because he didnt trust azure and then stayed bc there were way less rules down on earth
also THANK YOU he felt more complete when i added the tail and whiskers lmao, its okay in a lego style, but looked like it was missing something when i tried

What do you think of azure lion and his friends since I really don't like him very much, azure is a little hypocritical for me? I don't know
As it is literally "oh, that evil sun wukong and his fellow pilgrims attacked my house in the name of the heavenly court "it is not as if they did not do it first and why he is surprised that heaven retaliates for it, also it seems he blames sun wukong as if the only culprit for his defeat when enralidad they all lost was not just sun wukong (in memory they were all rounded up)
It also bothers me about the different treatment given by the fandom azure lion
Azure lion who is the same villain archetype as lady bone demon but have different deals
Example azure does questionable things for good reason, the fandom treats him oh poor cat man just wants to help the needy"
Lady bone demon does questionable things for a good reason: what an evil and manipulative monster
I don't think I don't know all the bad things lady bone demon did, because if she did bad things, although that's the point, she was a villain (an amazing villain)
But it bothers me what azure lion, in the series we still don't show much of him but I really don't want the series to start trying to justify and throw under the rug all the things he's done as they did with a certain character (look at macaque)
Sorry if it's not understood try to put my thoughts in order as best I could maybe not understood but anyway 🤷
So you think of him
ah wonderful! It has been a age now then to address the fandom thing regarding the treatment of azure and LBD respectively it is
Tumblr media
Fandoms have a lot of it guy villains are seen as more tolerable then a female villain case in point check the genshin fandom they riot whenever a woman is even slightly mean much less evil may the heavens restrain me when arlecchino is released it will be hell and also lmk with Macaque and LBD the former being somehow worse then the latter thanks to the special which altered our bone lady so macaque is legitimately a worse person…make of that what you will we have probably incurred the wrath of the macaque Stan’s in the mentions tbh now anyway regarding Azure
this blue fluffy kitty
Tumblr media
He’s a bit tone deaf which is to be expected he did the wukong brain tendenrizer scroll edition so he’s a bit not caught up with things as evident by his interaction with DBK our resident and earliest defanged villain and his complete and utter disdain for PIF(reading that as a word never fails to make us laugh hahah oh god we are getting into hotd discourse later) now the thing is that Azure is very much the type to blame others for shit going wrong such as the wukong scroll cut incident tbh tho he had a point but he’s very much a how to say this…a earlier version of LBD that’s more relatable because he hasn’t gone “the world needs to be perfected” yet like she has so he’s a bit more relatable also helps that his season is a better season 3 and gives us significantly more time with him then we did with LBD as she only got bits of other seasons with other characters being focused on and then got robbed of her focus so she never got any real insight other then the special which was VERY much rushed now as to our opinion of Azure as a character…
Tumblr media
We like him he’s a bit foolish and a poor substitute for the villain that came before him but he actually does what the rushed change with her intended better he’s overall kinda neat nice design good voice a fucked up personality and the first thing he decided to do was 1v1 god all around good character and he’s most likely going to get the macaque treatment so prepare for the fics butchering him as the show regulates him to background fodder at best and that’s if he doesn’t die which tbh is a 50/50 chance also funny how the mayor hasn’t shown up at all thanks for your ask cami and even we struggle with putting our thoughts into words so there’s that now time to suffer the hell that is the hotd fandom

So I was checking and translating LMK character's Chinese names (as any normal person does) and I noticed something interesting.
Azure's Chinese name is 青毛獅, which yeah, seems to translate as Azure Lion. Well, most translators gave me Blue Fur(red) Lion, but close enough.
The thing is... his name uses the word 青 (Romanised as Qīng). As far as I have understood, it's an old word for a colour that can be translated anywhere from blue to green, even black. Some site even described it as "the colour of the nature".
And to commit the ultimate sin and quote Wikipedia:
"It (Qīng) was used for the roof tiles and ornate interior of the Temple of Heaven and in other structures to represent heaven. It is also the color of most jade"
So (if I got this right), you could technically translate Azure's name as Jade Cloured Lion.
And since (again apparently) this is the name Azure has in JttW the book... This is either one heck of a coincidence, I'm doing a huge mistranslation from a language I don't know at all OR this is the reason why they (the creators of the show) chose to make Azure the new Jade Emperor.
(Fun side fact. There is at least one another character in Chinese literature named after colour 青. Namely 青蛇 aka Qīngshé aka Xiaoqing aka Green Snake aka the sworn-sister/handmaiden of Madame White Snake.)

Once & For All by The Crane Wives is such a MK vs Azure Lion song,,,,,,,,
This is a Crane Wives song I haven't heard before! (so like, a treat for me)
Dare I say I actually think this is a really good shadowpeach song from Macaque's pov
I tried it your way, you tried it mine The white flags still aren't waving, this ain't the good fight I'm putting my foot down, weak knees and all Finally standing on my own after the great fall (imp note: ICARUS PARALLELS FOR THE WIN) Once and for all Once and for all Once and for all I only fought for love at your request Didn't think you'd be the one to leave me clutching at my chest Remember, you're the one that gave up when my blood runs dry You could still carry me away but you'd leave me here to die
Especially the ending here ("Is there anything Wukong could do that would break his hold over you?"):
Once and for all, what does that mean? It's a promise I'm making that I don't actually believe Once and for all means I've tried it before So many times that I'm just fucking tired I'll never be able to close that door

What if they’re how the main cast fix Wukong’s scroll piece?
Like so far I’ve been thinking that they’re the villain behind the scenes, the one pulling the strings to follow through with some master plan, and I still think they’re gonna turn out to be evil and who’s manipulating events.
But they’re also our only possible lead on how the gang are going to fix Wukong’s scroll piece, mainly because they seem to have some sort of knowledge of the scroll, having been able to access it. Thus, they might be someone that the main cast goes to in order to fix Wukong’s scroll piece. That, or they pop up out of the shadows offering their aid.
But yeah it definitely seems like they’re gonna be the way that the gang mend Wukong’s scroll piece so they can free him again.
#That or they’re actually just Wukong when he went to supposedly steal the scroll from the underworld for some good ol’ nostalgia#If they are Wukong I’d imagine that once he’s freed from the scroll piece and the gang ask him for an explanation#His explanation would include a flashback to this scene#But with his face visible from under the shadow of the hood#I actually really like this theory#It makes me feel smart#But yeah#Either this mysterious character is our secret villain and/or how the gang fix Wukong’s scroll piece#Or they’re just Wukong when he went to steal the scroll from the underworld#If they are the villain of the season maybe the reason they released Azure Lion from the scroll (assuming they did)#Was to get the segment of the scroll that Wukong stole back from him (for whatever reason)#And along the way they were just like#“You know what.”#“Screw the Jade Emperor. If he didn’t want to have to deal with a revolution than he shouldn’t have become a government official.”#If they’re just Wukong stealing the scroll though#Then maybe Azure Lion escaping happened as a result of the scroll being opened by MK#Especially considering how he just pops up out of nowhere when the scroll is opened a second time#Like bro#This is a locked cave. There’s a literal protective sigil keeping things from getting in and from getting out#If they aren’t registered as trustworthy by Monkey King#How the hell did you get in here?!#It’s been a long time since Journey to the West so I doubt you’d have access#Is there some hidden passage we don’t know about or something?#But anyway#We shall see who mysterious figure is eventually#lego monkie kid season 4#lego monkie kid season 4 spoilers#lego monkie kid s4#lego monkie kid s4 spoilers#lmk season 4

Hi umm question can I make a request of a macaque azure lion wukong x fem single mother tiger
Like she has like three cubs (kids) and she had to raise them and there still young because because there recently born because her ex mate (husband) cheated on her with another woman and when he found out she was pregnant with his cubs (kids) he left her while she was pregnant
Finally, getting to this as ehehehhehehehe
Support me here
Sun Wukong
Is very disappointed that your ex mate left you all alone with your triplet cubs.
Is very angry that he cheated.
When he visits you, he more often then not offers to babysit for a day or two so you can have some rest.
At some point he gets you to bring them to his island and he does so much.
He won't let you talk down about your body, will kiss your stomach.
He understands if your not ready to enter a new relationship, willing to take it slow.
Most importantly though, he understands that to date you, he does have to be a good influence in your kids life.
He is willing to fake a certain idea of himself, but he also isn't really willing to change who he is as a personmonkey.
Macaque
Probably found out about you having kids after a date and he coughs on the glass of water you gave him when one kid comes running out to say hi to mama.
Coughs even more when he sees the other two.
He doesn't treat you any differently(besides from letting you choose times when to meet up more freely) because of your cubs.
He does ask questions about the father though. And is fucking pissed.
This man will hunt down your ex and kill him for leaving you and your cubs. Will make sure you suddenly have this man entire wealth in your bank too.
He doesn't let you figure it out, playing innocent and all.
He does like spending time with your kids, though he likes spending time with you more.
Though he does hate it when one or more of the children join you two in bed because of a nightmare. He doesn't like grubby hands touching him as he sleeps.
Azure Loin
This man does not question it.
He just thinks your husband died while you were pregnant and is willing to look after your cubs.
Why else would a father not be in a child's life.
He goes feral when you tell him the truth.
Will hunt this shit down and cut off his gentiles.
"If he is too much of a coward to look after a child then he doesn't have the right to make anymore children."
Will convince your cubs he is their father and he will treat you as if he is your husband, even if you two never get married.
He won't let children be raised thinking they have no family.

(i wrote this while sick before going to the movies and then finished it after watching a movie so forgive me if it's incoherent or whateer im laying down)
do you ever think about how Azure Lion groomed Sun Wukong from a young age into being this perfect people to act as the poster child for the Brotherhood, abandoned him at his worst, was confident he could manipulate him into working for him again and then tried to do the same with Xiaotian and Xiaojiao upon first meeting them? And that, by association, he almost groomed Macaque and you can see how his manipulation affected Macaque even into adulthood when he first met Xiaotian?
No?
Azure Lion groomed Sun Wukong, tried to groom Qi Xiaotian (and Long Xiaojiao) and heavily affected Macaque's world view on Sun Wukong.
EDITOR'S NOTE:: grooming in this case does not mean anything sexual between the characters, grooming is a common trope in media and it's commonly seen as a power imbalance and manipulation tactic (see: when a father grooms his son to take over the company by inflicting him with his own ideals)
Azure Lion has a tendency to display Sun Wukong on this high pedestal and sound very confident in how he describes him. The very first thing he says in his debut is this:
“I'm flattered, truly, but if it were not for Sun Wukong bringing us together, right? Without you, none of this would be possible. Your courage to stand up to the Celestial Host has inspired us to finally take a stand. To make a true difference in the world. And I could think of none other more suitable to lead us on our conquest than you, brother.”
notice how throughout this episode sequence Azure is spoken about like he's the leader and right in every word he says. The other adults at the table (Peng, DBK and Yellow Tusk) smile and turn to him as though he's in the right. They hang on to his every word. something interesting is the fact Macaque and Sun Wukong are talked down to like they're the younger pair of the brotherhood — Peng's insults to Macaque, the way DBK asks SWK to repeat what happened during Havoc in Heaven—
heck even the way they laugh at Sun Wukong when he's being silly is a clear indicator that they see him as... silly.
It isn't until Azure Lion speaks up that they turn to him and start seeing Sun Wukong into a new light.
Not only that but the way that Azure talks to Sun Wukong raises several red flags. He looks at all his brothers the same way (e.g when he's helping Peng during a flashback in Episode 8) but it raises so many red flags when he looks at Wukong like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Wukong hangs on to his every word.
Because Sun Wukong believes in what Azure Lion is saying to him. Everyone believes him in that moment. he sounds so confident in the way he says none of this would be possible without sun wukong. It's a way to manipulate him especially considering Sun Wukong was not the one to form the Brotherhood - Azure was. Azure decided to form this trio after seeing Sun Wukong for the first time according his own flashback:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And guess what? It works. Sun Wukong was minding his own business up until that point, the only thing he'd done (if the timeline matches up correctly) was become immortal and return to Flower Fruit Mountain to train his monkey army. In JTTW at this point he would've turned into a giant version of himself, scaring the other spirit kings into joining alliances with him just from witnessing that—instead we get Azure Lion believing him to be the perfect idol for his plan to come into fruition.
Fun Fact: Macaque is the only one who looks at Sun Wukong like this during Azure Lion's little speech about him and being the rightful leader of the brotherhood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He seems more confused and shocked than the rest of them are. Mind you, he's known Sun Wukong longer than the rest of them have.
He hears Azure Lion, a veteran celestial warrior, praise his best friend and put him up on a pedestal and it confuses him. because his best friend is not like that. at least, he thinks so—but Azure sounds confident, right? he's speaking so confidently about this, so he must be right... right?
It will, eventually, lead to Macaque changing his view on Sun Wukong entirely. this is why we have shadowplay.
Tumblr media
"That's what I believed. What Azure would have you believe."
Azure Lion affected not only Sun Wukong but Macaque in his manipulation — the timeline does not show us where Macaque went after his fall out with Wukong but the theory that he ran into the Camel Ridge Trio before fighting Wukong again works considering that line.
(Not only that but Macaque also tries to do this with Xiaotian: he introduces himself in a easily approachable way and trains him, takes him under his wing, then stomps on him the moment he stops being useful to him. he uses him to get to Sun Wukong. Xiaotian reminds Macaque of Sun Wukong and he uses similar tactics that Azure Lion used to get to Xiaotian — and it isn't until the Samadhi Fire Ritual that he realizes what he's done by being reminded of his and Wukong's fallout. He, a bystander, was also affected and influenced by Azure's manipulation.)
Additionally, Sun Wukong defends Azure Lion. He justifies attacking Heaven during Havoc in Heaven, he justifies the brotherhood's plan to go to war against Heaven—none of these plans are Sun Wukong's ideas. They are Azure's influence. In the original book, the reason why Wukong attacks Heaven in the first place is because they refuse to grant him the respect he wishes and thus Heaven is angry at him for dubbing himself the Great Sage Equal to Heaven. They ask the Jade Emperor to take care of Sun Wukong and he does—which, y'know, ends up with Wukong imprisoned afterwards. But in Monkie Kid it's all because of Azure's influence on Wukong.
Because he groomed him into being a faithful right hand man. And he is so confident in that that he gives these grand speeches and pep talks and says every perfect little line to make Sun Wukong want to follow him to Hell and back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"When we triumph in this rebellion, the people will never live in fear. We're about to change everything. It's all because of you, brother!"
And, of course, he tries this on Xiaotian and Xiaojiao, too, when he first meets them.
When he presents himself to Xiaotian and Xiaojiao, he comes to their rescue. He already introduces himself as a savior and protagonist because he saves them from the scroll—even seemingly displaying himself as non-threatening because, while he laughs at them, he does so in a manner that's sincere and genuine. It's a goofy laugh. He's being goofy. He's playing to their good side.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's the way he talks to them and laughs, introduces himself with such flamboyance and loudness that he mirrors Sun Wukong himself. He is such a direct influence to Sun Wukong that it carries throughout the few scenes we see of him that resemble what Sun Wukong has done with Xiaotian: the astral projection, the goofy displays of excitement, the sarcastic tones when talking about Tang, the way he greats his brothers when they are freed as old friends and all cheery and genuine.
He allows himself to be called uncy lion and romanticizes the past of the brotherhood while not elaborating on the fact he lead Sun Wukong and his brothers to a war while still blaming the aftermath and defeat of their party on Sun Wukong.
"Ah, well. The Sun Wukong isn't exactly the easiest person to get along with. He has quite a habit of keeping people at arm's length. We were young, mistakes were made... and some mistakes can't be undone."
He speaks of him in a way to spark doubt between Xiaotian and Xiaojiao and it works in the way they react to what he says. They are disheartened and Xiaojiao even mentions, later, how Sun Wukong has had a habit of keeping things to himself. I wonder why that is.
" [...] If your friendship with Monkey King meant anything to you—" "It meant everything to me." [....] "We're brothers. Nothing could ever change that."
It's the way that Azure talks to them about Sun Wukong. It's the way he still thinks he is close enough to Sun Wukong to say that nothing will change their relationship. It's the way that he tries to plant these ideas into Xiaotian's head when they first meet, because he is the Monkie Kid.
That and the fact that later, when Sun Wukong is bursting through each and every memory, he reaches Xiaotian and goes to him and tries to comfort him and say they'll get to safety soon and they just have to deal with the scroll curse—it's the fact that the moment

that pigsy

mentions Azure Lion
Tumblr media
all of that gets paused for a moment
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Oh he says his name like that because he put him in the scroll, he shouldn't be here—" there is also the fact he's not fully blown surprised by this. he's also wary. he's hesitant. sure you can say he's surprised to hear they've met Azure Lion,
but then you get this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is hatred. this is anger. this is not what Sun Wukong feels towards Macaque during Season 3 — he lunged at Macaque for putting Xiaojiao in danger, for putting Xiaotian in danger, for ruining his plan, and he hesitates to attack him, to deliver that final blow, his fist is shaking and Tang's interuption easily causes him to lose focus and he drops Macaque. He lets go.
THIS? This is him protecting Xiaotian. this is him not wanting Xiaotian near Azure. Xiaotian looks at Azure with wide eyes and a gaping mouth because "oh Azure's here?" but Wukong knows better.
And you cannot tell me Sun Wukong was not heavily hurt by Azure Lion's actions without looking at the way that Sun Wukong puts himself between Azure and Xiaotian immediately, how Sun Wukong tries to be a better person by putting Xiaotian's safety first, always, even if it means he gets possessed or hurt or thrown around.
You cannot tell me Azure Lion wasn't a manipulator or abuser or a person who used Sun Wukong's admiration of him against him, to turn him into an obedient follower and devoted friend, when the very first thing he does when he sees Wukong step between him and Xiaotian is sigh.
Sighs like an older mentor looking at their pupil and going "didn't I teach you better than that?"
And then he imprisons Sun Wukong.
Because he is of no use to him at that moment.
And the fucking kicker: Xiaojiao modeled her new sword after Azure Lion, then is blatantly disgusted by this when she figures out how much of a bastard he is and openly says so. Xiaotian looks distraught and confused. Because Azure admits to being guilty of using them and manipulating them. He aims for sympathy with them.
He aims for sympathy with Xiaotian.
He twists the narrative again when he and Xiaotian are alone.
Tumblr media
He's manipulating him. He's using him.
He keeps painting Sun Wukong in this negative light. he keeps putting himself up as the sympathetic victim of it all.
"My former brother was sent to destroy us and all we had built."
and yet he still talks about Wukong as though he has a grasp on their relationship. he calls him brother. he has not abandoned that title. he still thinks of Sun Wukong as his brother and will continue to use him and his name in whatever way possible to get ahead.
Maybe it is not on purpose and Azure thinks he is being true and genuine with Xiaotian but it does not erase the fact he twists the narrative to paint Sun Wukong in a negative light in front of his successor. Because Sun Wukong and Xiaotian have a strong relationship, a bond so strong that Qi Xiaotian bursts with power and strength when he realizes Azure will not give him back to him. It's precision and control and Qi Xiaotian could wreck havoc among everyone for keeping his mentor away from him but he is so controlled and careful with his movements that he manages to not attack Azure, but throw him off balance to get him to release Azure.
All because Sun Wukong is important to him.
Because Sun Wukong was not going to treat his successor as though he were a weapon or a pawn in some major scheme like he was.
Azure Lion showers people with praise that they do not deserve nor want and does so in a way that makes the party feel either delighted to have aided with his success or horrified at the revelation. He does so when Sun Wukong brings the brotherhood together (which wouldn't have happened if Azure Lion hadn't seen Sun Wukong with his subjects that one day) and he does so when Qi Xiaotian for returning his brothers to him (which he didn't know he was doing, because Azure Lion told him he needed to defeat the curse without mentioning his friends would be released too, at least from what I can remember).
"His betrayal, his brutality. He took the only friends I had from me. I would have done anything in my power to bring them back. But it wasn't in my power, it was in yours. You saved my friends. You returned them to me. And for that, I am eternally grateful."
This is similar to what he says to Sun Wukong when he was thanking him for bringing the brotherhood together.
And then, what happens when all this manipulating and tricking does not work? When Qi Xiaotian teams up with Sun Wukong instead of siding with Azure Lion?
"After all Sun Wukong has put you through, how much he's let you down, you would still meet your fate trying to protect him?! (...) He doesn't deserve such loyalty, yet you insist on learning the hard way, just as I did! I should've never trusted the Monkey King! The False Sage, Equal to Nothing!"
He fucking insults Sun Wukong. Sun Wukong who rushes in to protect Xiaotian, who shoves Azure Lion out of the way, and checks on Qi Xiaotian when he glitches out and starst to lose control of his powers.
And when he's losing against Xiaotian? When he struggles to keep up with him?
"Look what he's done to you! Reduced you to a mindless, savage animal."
Again, Macaque's obsession over Sun Wukong makes sense now. His obsession is a result of Azure Lion's doing. His obsession is what Qi Xiaotian could have been had he not known Sun Wukong for who he really is: his mentor and friend.
What gets to me is what Xiaotian says to him when he's losing:
"That's what you were pretending to be, right? To be my friend? To care about me? When really, you were just using me to get what you wanted! To turn me against my own mentor! Well, put your hand in the monkey cage and expect to get bit, son! Come on! Come on! Come on, Uncy Lion! You're the big hero, right?! Then prove it! Show me!"
It's a perfect way of snapping back at Azure for all his manipulation.
And then Azure dies.
He learns he's being manipulated for someone else. He cries and smiles and dies.
What for?
He doesn't save anybody.
He doesn't suffer consequences of manipulating people. He doesn't do anything heroic and he doesn't even save the world by sacrificing himself because Nezha is the one who seals away the Jade Emperor's powers in the end.
He's a natural manipulator.
He's not a hero.
he's a loser
