im so funny bc since i know so little about myself my entire style is a conglomeration
like i heavily take inspo from the 70s punk culture specifically for clothes, but my makeupe has always leaned more towards tradgoth, and my shoes are literally just anything that looks either militaristic/blue collar/tall. and my jewelry is always just bits and pieces of myself im sure of and chains

Read your long post and while I understand and feel sorry that you're frustrated, i think it's sad that so many people only think of goth of some music fandom. Goth existed before goth music, long before we were born, and it will live on and keep reinventing and coming back to life in different ways for CENTURIES to come. The club scene is one aspect of goth but limiting it to that is nothing but a disservice and disrespect. No, i don't think billie eilish and lil peep are a new reincarnation of goth but for you to think that people saying that aren't making fun of you.... Come on! I said i don't like music at all when someone like you was like "do you even like goth music". I like music. I like GOTH MUSIC. We're making fun of you bc how uptight, elitist, and rigid against any type of change or variation you are.
And saying that goth is against any fad or trend... As if the look of the subculture didn't perfectly fit the trends of every decade. Fluffy hair and loose shirts in the 80s, straight hair, small chokers and grungey makeup for the 90s.... Instagram brows and contouring in the 2010s...goths always dressed like the trends, only gothic. Ofc, there's people that stuck to style past, be it 80s,2000s or victorian. But it's still a style that was popular at some point. And by your logic ekids are more alternative than y'all, bc they may not hate the mainstream, but the mainstream sure hates them.
Maybe "goths" (which they weren't even called back then) were against the trends before they separated from punk, but i say this and i stand by it. Every goth who only likes goth fashion, goth music or whatever else gothic to be against the mainstream instead of bc they actually like those things, is a poser.
And if all you see is people clowning on you "#tradgoth #gothgoth #gothgothgoth #gothgothgothgoth goth is ab nothing but the music and every goth that incorporates their own style into it instead of looking like a carbon copy of siouxsie sioux or a normie w a battle vest is a poser" people, you should come to my side of the internet. The side where everyone does nothing but complain ab lil peep and ekids and how it's only ab the music. They talk ab it so much and i don't hear a word ab what goth things they love. I wanna switch sides. Though i have the suspicion that your side will change drastically once someone non-judgmental, who has nothing but love and understanding for the people around them will come along.
Anyway, i'll sleep soundly tonight knowing that goth will always rise from the dead, that every new change, style of fashion or type of music just brings more goth things to fill my gothic heart with love, while doing nothing to erase all that has comr before it, just adding everything up, rounding up the subculture in a wonderful and diverse way. I hope you find the inner peace to do the same.
(as for the big tddy goth gf stuff, i agree, but i think that has to be addressed more in the context of misogyny, bc that's the main reason it's bad:bc it represents a threat to alternative, darkly inclined and edgy women, as well as young girls. Making it an issue of bastardisation of a subculture makes the abstract concept of goth the victim, instead of the women experiencing it)
No. Goth music developed from punk and post-punk in the late 70s. GothIC aesthetics, literature etc did exist before that, but the only thing they have in common is that they are both darkly inclined. Also not a "music fandom", it's a subculture that grew around the music.
As for the evolution of goth I am fully aware of modern goth acts beyond the 80s, the thing is that they evolved from the preceding sounds while still falling within the same cathegory. There are bands today that wouldn't sound out of place in 1987 (eg drab majesty, molchat doma) and bands that sound very innovative while still harking to the sounds or their predecessors (eg kælan mikla, nox novacula, the soft moon). The issue lies within acts misappropriating this term whenever It becomes trendy in order to make a quick buck.
On the theme of fashion and style and everyone looking the same…might depend on the local scene or which corners of the internet you frequent but that is legiterally not true lmao. I certainly don't dress like a carbon copy of Siouxsie Sioux nor do I own a battle vest. I do dress mostly in black but I generally wear whatever I want bc for me, goth is 80% music, 20% attitude (including fashion).
As for the "Rise from the death" thing… goth never died. Maybe there have been periods when It has been more or less popular, but that never meant that the music or the scene ceased to exist. With the rise of the internet and social media it means that goth is more far reaching than it ever has been, and that there are more people listening to dark post-punk, goth rock, darkwave, deathrock, coldwave, ethereal wave etc etc and thus likely identifying themselves as goth than there ever has been, which is excellent, because goth music is my nr 1 fave genre(s)! And I don't like it because it's against the mainstream, I like it because I like it! Because my dad introduced me to it when I was little because he also listened to The Cure, Bauhaus, SOM etc! Because I like it as much as I like Kylie Minogue and Mariah Carey! And that just so happens to be the case with the vast majority of ppl in the scene, and I do agree that anyone who only listens to goth in order to set themselves apart from the general public is a poser, but they'll grow out of it and find something else. My main gripe in that post was the use of goth aesthetics divorced from their origins used in consummerist society.
Also "people like you"… a) you don't know me and pray to god you never will b) idk what chord I struck within you for you to type this rant in response to my post but please don't imply that all of us who love and defend goth are all ppl who do nothing but fight ppl on the internet about the sanctity of goth.
