Reel Magik Review (6mo)

Reel Magik Pack n Play Review: Year 0

What I ordered:

5in, cut model. Firm Fill with Pleasure Pocket with M1 color.

Adhesive Pro Strength and Remover

Extended 2 year Warranty.

Total cost: $1074.25 (shipping and taxes included)

I have seen a handful of ReelMagik reviews but all of them are about when they first receive them, so I'm going to attempt to make three reviews.

The first is my first impressions after about 6 months of use.

The Second will be a 1 year update.

The Third will be a 2nd Year update. If it lasts more than two years, I will attempt to continue putting up reviews yearly or make an update when the product has reached the end of its reasonable lifespan so other customers will have an idea of how long one of these very expensive prosthetics might last with regular use.

I want to preface that I am very hard on all my things from clothes to prosthetics, so if you are a bit more gentle or a bit more careful than I am, it may last you longer. I will attempt to detail when I do something I think might be out of the ordinary or might put extra pressure on the materials (such as if I go to the beach or engage in weathering activities).

How I will rate this prosthetic (1-10):

Comfort to wear

How Realistic it is

Whether or not it stains easily from underwear dyes

How quickly it loses shape or malforms

How quickly it tears or deteriorates

(eventually)

How stimulating the pleasure pocket it

How well it holds up during sexual activities

While I have not had access to a wide range of natural born penises, I have had quiet extensive exposure to the penis of my long term partner and will be comparing realisticness in appearance and feel to his.

Okay! On to the actual review!

Suggestions:

First, if you are seriously considering one of these, I highly suggest getting the color sample swatch. Computer colors can be deceiving and it really is very helpful to hold the actual material against your skin to color match as closely as possible.

The ordering process was pretty straight forward for me, however their system didn't actually track which color I chose and I was contacted several weeks later about what color I wanted. So I suggest writing yourself a note about all your choices just in case there is glitch like that. Perhaps even take pictures of the color swatches against your skin, just for personal reference.

I personally do not care for body hair, so I chose not to have hair punched in mine, though it does appear to do a fantastic job hiding the slight line where the prosthetic attaches, it isn't super noticeable and unless you were doing something quite damp, a bit of makeup would probably also hide the line just as well. I haven't bothered trying since I don't go to a lot of places where it would be seen by anyone other than my partner.

Adhesives:

Here I am fully willing for it to be user error or the fact that I have very oily skin and eczema, but the adhesive just did not work for me. I followed the instructions fairly closely but after I had been wearing the prosthetic for a few hours, I noticed that the adhesive had not only stayed tacky but gone a bit slimy as well and was not at all holding the prosthetic in place properly. Instead it was sliding around in my underwear slowly smearing adhesive on my leg and much lower on my crotch than I had put it. I washed the adhesive off (no easy feat itself) and tried the application again with even worse results. So I would say unless you know this type of medical adhesive works, it may be better to save your money. The adhesive and remover by themselves were $179, which is quite a lot for something that is both difficult to remove and ineffective.

I had similar results simply using spirit gum, though it did work better for me than the medical adhesive and was exceptionally easier to remove.

Although the eyelash glue I tried was quite cheap, and I want to try with a better brand, I didn’t find much better results with that one either.

Adhesive troubles aside, this is one of the largest packers I have ever had for daily wear. If you've seen any of my other posts, it probably won't surprise you that I favor fairly skimpy underwear so I don't have very many that can hold it easily, but the balls have a really ergonomic design that sits easily in between the legs without any pinching and numbing pressure. Because I chose firm fill, the penis feels about half-hard all the time, so it's pretty stiff, but it still bends well enough to tuck neatly in trousers without looking obscene. I'll update this section when I see how it looks in swimwear. Though I think if you wanted to do something really athletic while wearing this, I would suggest wearing a cup or some other harness shaped object, no matter how good your adhesive is usually.

Onto realisticness. The shaft is incredibly realistic. The outer silicone slides over the inner core in an extremely realistic manner.. Temperature is the most notable giveaway that it's not real and if you run rather hot, even that isn't likely to be noticeable after a few minutes wearing it. The silicone does feel a bit thicker and rougher than my own skin, but I personally have quite thin, delicate skin. So your mileage on that may vary. My biggest complaint is actually with the testicles. While the inner cores do feel realistic (if a bit small) the outer skin feels very thick, They don't have the thin, delicate quality I associate with testicles and are even rougher feeling (not the folds, those feel pretty normal) than the shaft. In this regard, I think the significantly cheaper silicone packers actually feel a bit more realistic on the balls. I'm not sure if that could be changed on a production level and maintain the floating cores, and I really like the floating cores.

Appearance wise, it is very realistic. I held it next to my partners for comparison and aside from the fact that I am basically clear compared to him, they didn't look too different from each other in terms of texture, variation of color and the way the skin moved under our hands when manipulating them.

Now, I have noticed in the past that my less expensive packers tend to come away with dark purple or blue stains when I wear black underwear. Whether that’s due to the kind of underwear I like or the rubber being relatively easy to dye, I’m not sure. But I haven’t noticed that problem at all for this packer. Which is nice, I don’t think I’ll have to worry about it turning a zombie grey in the near future.

So, now having purchased this extremely pricey prosthetic, what are my final ratings?

Comfort to wear: 5/10; Because I cannot find an adhesive that works, I’ve noticed the packer wanders upwards, which makes it uncomfortable to move around with.

How Realistic it is: 9/10; very realistic. I do wish the skin of the testicles had as much attention in terms of texture as the shaft, but that’s a nitpick.

Whether or not it stains easily from underwear dyes: 10/10 I have not noticed any staining for the past 6 months that I have had it.

How quickly it loses shape or malforms: 10/10 in 6 months it is still holding shape and rigidity well.

How quickly it tears or deteriorates: A little too soon for this one, so I’ll hold this rating for the 1yr mark.

How stimulating the pleasure pocket it: 1/10. Now, I have not had any ligament releases, so perhaps if you’d had a meta this feature would work fantastically, but I have a Hot Rod from Transaesthetics so I have something to compare it with. The pleasure pocket is positioned really high up on the prosthetic, it does not line up well even when using a harness for that sort of thing which pulls the packer much further down than I wear it day to day. It’s also not deep enough, on the Hot Rod, the hole is very deep so it can get some natural suction to hold everything in place, but the pleasure pocket is only just big enough to fit my (very small, size 7 ring) middle finger so there isn’t any space to develop an air gap that could create a vacuum.

How well it holds up during sexual activities: N/A; Although I suspect you would need a harness, I can’t imagine this holding in place with adhesives alone. If I do end up using it for penetration, I will update with section as well.

Finally, after doing the math, this packer would need to last me 33 ⅓ years to make the cost worth it (this is based on buying two Mr. Limpy’s by Doc Johnson per year, the packer I had used previously almost exclusively for the last decade).

So the overall rating it: 6.8/10 if it lasts 33 years. If it only lasts two years (remember I got the two year warranty) This rating would drop to 2/10.

Now, they do have less expensive packers, and maybe I’ll try one of those sometime to see if I like them better as an everyday packer. If I do, I’ll make a review of that one.

2023 Writing Roundup

I had to scroll back pretty far to find the tags for this, so if I missed someone who did this already and tagged me, I'm sorry if I double tag you at the end! But thanks to @kiwiana-writes and @inexplicablymine for tagging me in this roundup post!

As the post is going to reveal, I, uh, only just got back into writing a few months back, after taking almost ten years off due to, honestly, a lack of inspiration. I'd lost my voice, and I didn't suspect I'd ever love anything enough to write again, until this little pink book came barrelling into my life in June, followed swiftly by a little Amazon Prime movie in August, and both changed my life forever.

So without further ado, here's my writing roundup for 2023:

29th - The Lake House The night following the election, Alex has a surprise planned for Henry. A chance to make some new history.

August

8th - What If I Do? What was Henry thinking when he left Alex at the lake house? What were the days that followed like for him before Alex showed up at his door and forced him to face not only Alex, but himself?

18th - Gravity The first time that Henry enters Alex's orbit, at the Melbourne Climate Conference, and all of their subsequent meetings leading to their "violent altercation" at the royal wedding. Inspired by a post about how Henry very pointedly chose not to shake Alex's hand in the receiving line after the wedding and what that could have meant.

19th - The Rope Henry's reaction to Alex nearly telling him that he loves him at the lake house in Texas.

19th - A brief spark of a moment: A Red, White & Royal Blue drabble collection These drabbles are simply my personal challenge to contain myself to 100 words when I've always been…long-winded.

20th - Retaliation Alex and Henry, now dating, attend another state dinner, where they're unexpectedly seated directly next to each other.

21st - Every Version Alex does a magazine photoshoot, and the day that the magazine arrives, he wants Henry to look at it first.

23rd - On my heart just like a tattoo Alex and Henry are married, and on the day of the ceremony, they decide to do something special.

23rd - Ghosts After Henry leaves the lake house, Alex does not go after him. He doesn't storm Kensington in a fit of pique to call Henry an "obtuse fucking asshole." Instead, the pair spend nearly a year apart, both wrecked and miserable, until they find themselves on the list of speakers for an international conference.

27th - Darkest before the dawn The immediate aftermath of Henry discovering the email leak in the movie-verse.

28th - When I taste tequila Henry’s drunk. If the growing mountain of empty shot glasses, drained and discarded lime wedges, and gritty layer of salt on the table in front of him are any indication, he’s very drunk. Only, his brain is having a difficult time catching on to the fact that he’s drunk. And when his brain is this far behind the rest of him, Henry tends to find himself in precarious situations, with no real conscious thought as to how he got there or how he might have avoided them.

September

4th - The Maldives Inspired by a conversation about the zoomed-in and transcribed article about Henry in People Magazine from the movie and how the photos look like they could have been faked.

After their conversation with the king and greeting the crowd at Buckingham Palace, Alex and Henry ride back to Kensington. Alex mentions that his offer to fly to the Maldives is still valid, and Henry admits that he's never been, which sparks a discussion about some of the lengths the crown would go to in order to convince the world that Henry was straight. Alex considers what Henry must have gone through, and the two of them discuss their past and how it might have been different.

11th - Modification to the map of you Henry comes back from a month-long trip with his ear pierced, and Alex has no idea.

14th - Et Max Laryngitis Alex gets laryngitis, and Henry decides to have a bit of fun at his expense.

23rd - How bizarro is that Alex gets food poisoning, and Henry takes care of him…sort of.

27th - Royal Assent “If the boyfriend of a prince of England fails English Legal History, you’ll be the one to blame,” Alex murmurs as Henry sucks a bruise on his neck. Henry had arrived home from the shelter to find Alex buried under a mountain of books, his glasses askew and his hair wild, wearing the same bewildered expression Henry had seen as he walked out the door earlier that morning.

As he climbs into Alex’s lap, jumping a little as a particularly sharp corner of a hardcover book pokes him in the arse, he can feel the tension in Alex’s shoulders relax, ever so slightly.

“You aren’t going to fail. In fact, I’m going to help you,” Henry says, each word separated by a kiss to Alex’s chest, neck, cheek, and finally lips.

Alex is trying really hard to study for a law school exam, and Henry takes it upon himself to...assist.

28th - 5 Times Henry Hated New Year's + 1 Time He Didn't “This is my curse,” Henry mutters, and Pez laughs across from him.

“You can hardly be responsible for the weather.”

“So the glaring fact that every single New Year’s Eve on record in my life has been an utter disaster means absolutely nothing to you?”

“We’re going to make it, so no, it means nothing to me,” Pez says with cheerful optimism despite the constant fluttering of white beyond the plane windows.

5 times throughout his life that Henry's New Year's countdown has been ruined, and 1 time that it isn't.

29th - Stars in the sky are the stars in my eyes The ding of a notification sounds in the otherwise silent living room. As Henry’s eyes continue to scan the page of his book, ignoring his phone, Alex can’t help but glance down at the illuminated screen between them on the couch.

“Is that…a horoscope?” Alex asks, immediately retrieving the phone to confirm his suspicions at the exact moment Henry grabs for it a beat too late. He watches the bright shade of red crawl up Henry’s neck to burn just beneath the skin of his ears.

“Perhaps,” is all he supplies, his voice muffled as he buries his face far too close to the book’s pages to realistically read anything written there.

Henry gets his daily horoscope, and Alex is intrigued, so Henry shows him the constellations.

30th - What started in beautiful rooms Henry’s never taken any extra care in his appearance when playing polo. Certainly, he’s given an adequate amount of time and effort to ensure that he appears composed, but the sport itself lends to a bit of chaos, between the pounding of hooves and the whipping of the wind in a frantic rush. It’s all incredibly…well, wild.

October

1st - Do we still have forever? Alex has a sudden, serious allergic reaction, and Henry can't help but think about losing him.

2nd - Dear Dad I should start from the beginning, or rather, I should start by telling you how I got here, to this moment, writing you this letter.

Henry writes a letter to his father on his wedding day.

3rd - Liquor was the only love I'd known June finds them at some point and steals Henry away to gab at the bar. Alex watches them from afar, wondering what they could possibly be talking about that has June nearly falling off her barstool laughing, until the crowd overtakes him again.

3rd - Then came a baby boy with long eyelashes Following their initial spirited entrance into Alex's hotel room following the DNC, Henry asks Alex about his encounter with Miguel in the bar.

13th - Volume Control Prompt Fulfillment: I need someone to write a FirstPrince fic where Henry overhears Alex saying "Henry is so annoying I can't stand him" so Henry says "kneel then" and it short circuits Alex's brain.

20th - 5 Times Alex Made a Disney Movie Reference + 1 Time Henry Did Alex and Henry have watched a significant amount of Disney movies, and well, Alex tends to have questions.

20th - You can't escape this drying ink “There’s…a matter…that requires your attention, in the Red Room. I’d be happy to escort you there.” She glances sideways at Henry’s PPOs, who shift in place, readying themselves to follow where she leads. Henry nods again, uncertain what other options lie open to him even if he wished to take one.

31st - Save a horse Alex convinces Henry to dress up as cowboys for Halloween and quickly realizes that Henry dressed as a cowboy was not something he was entirely prepared for.

31st - I'm not a robot without emotions, I'm not what you see At the royal wedding, Alex drinks and dances and contemplates both of the princes.

November

1st - The Candy Tax Ten-year-old Alex has invited his new friend Henry, who just moved to Texas from England with his family so that his movie star dad can be based in the US to shoot more movies, over for a sleepover the night before Halloween.

1st - Through the summer and the fall, we had each other, that was all The mountains are on fire. Red, orange, and yellow leaves cover thousands of acres of land, and the peeking of the sun over the distant horizon illuminates the hovering fog, creating the illusion of a persistent fire burning brightly without causing any damage. Instead, it paints a masterful landscape for an early morning riser to gaze at as he sips at a cup of Earl Grey and marvels at the fact that this beauty is a sight he has somehow been blessed to see.

2nd - Heart enough "...there are very few of us who have heart enough to be really in love without encouragement."

Instead of Alex flying to London, Henry is sent to D.C. to do the post Cakegate damage control just in time for Alex and June's annual Halloween party.

2nd - Life is a maze, and love is a riddle Alex, June, and Nora take Henry to his first haunted corn maze.

3rd - All at once, everything is different, now that I see you Alex throws out some possible suggestions for his and Henry's first ever couples Halloween costume, but Henry has something else in mind.

3rd - Halloween at Kensington The Fox-Mountchristen-Windsors may not be able to go out trick-or-treating like a normal family, but they can still celebrate Halloween in their own special way.

4th - No fear, no fences, nobody - no reins Henry takes Alex to a nearby farm outside Austin to teach him how to ride a horse. Eventually, they stop at a log cabin in the words for the night, and they decide to try another form of riding.

4th - I don't know why all the trees change in the fall Alex has had a terrible day. It's raining, it's cold, and he's absolutely miserable. All he wants to do is dry off and collapse in bed. But when he walks through the door, Henry is ready and waiting to take care of him. He even has a surprise that he's cooking up in the kitchen. And Alex gets to take a trip down memory lane.

5th - A-gourd-able “Oh, so that’s the reason you wanted a child so badly. Not for the opportunity to nurture and guide and love another human being that you helped to create, but for the perks of walking around to strangers’ homes asking for candy that our baby can’t even eat.”

Alex and Henry take their daughter trick or treating for the first time, and it's Henry's first time as well.

5th - I want to play a game Alex and Henry agree to watch all of the Saw movies to determine if one or both of them will end up too scared to continue. Do they make it through the series? Or does one of them give in and lose the wager that they've made?

5th - Barbecue Sauce "I want to see your mouth covered in barbecue sauce. And then, I want to lick it off."

6th - With magic soakin' my spine, can you read my mind? What happened after Alex, June, and Nora played their little HRH Prince Henry Fact Sheet drinking game? Well, in this version of events, Alex finds a mysterious bottle containing what appears to be a magic spell for "Clarity of Mind." As dumb as it seems, he does the ritual and reads the incantation and moves on, flying to London for damage control. But when he shakes Henry's hand, suddenly things change, and Alex realizes that maybe magic is real after all.

6th - Don't need no butterflies when you give me the whole damn zoo (podfic included) Henry takes Alex on a trip to visit...a couple of old feathered friends.

6th - It's autumn in New York; it's good to live it again It's the first day of fall in New York, and Alex comes home from class with a special surprise for Henry.

13th - Wind me up, fill your cup like a river, drunk on watching me drown Henry sighs. "Is that the time you threatened to push me into the Thames?"

23rd - The injury of finally knowing you (a birthday present for @ships-to-sail) Henry's thoughts just before and immediately after the countdown to midnight on New Year's Eve.

23rd - Smutsgiving 2023 Alex's heart rate monitor on his Apple Watch alerts him to some strenuous activity…at the worst possible time.

December

1st - We need a little Christmas The one where I let a random Christmas word generator choose a drabble prompt for a Christmas advent. Enjoy!

20th - Four Christmases From Washington to Austin, London to New York, Alex and Henry spend Christmas with different members of their families from 2020 - 2023. Funny couples' Christmas sweaters, festive swimsuits, statement-making ties, and family pajamas all bring lots of laughs, some tears, and a bit of fun to be had by all along the way.

25th - Oh what a laugh it would have been When Alex dresses as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, their five-year-old daughter makes an extra special, last-minute Christmas wish.

AND

Alex leaves his Santa suit on for a private evening with Henry while everyone else is snug in their beds.

Who needs a diary when I pinpoint my exact thoughts and mental state when I read over my old writing?

#I havent read glory since posting #mostly bc I moved on from bnha rather quickly lol #got a review which made me reread and uhhhhh ma'am were you ok 6 months ago??#I still think Glory is a good fic and I really loved exploring baku's relationship with himself and others #but alsooooo #work was super stressful in december #hospital kept demanding we work more and more with heavier patient loads #I was also helping orient a new nurse who was er not picking things up quickly #I just felt this huge weight of responsibility I was failing to meet #guilt over not being good enough #angry at being forced into this shitty situation #all with a lingering awareness that I would turn 30 in 2023 #and I can feel alllllll that and more through bakugou in the fic #I put so much of my current self into the story when I write #that uh I can feel it when I reread #sorry but MGM will likely never continue despite having ideas bc the lingering ANXIETY from covid makes it impossible to write

actually so funny in retrospect how on the last wednesday of 2022 my job told me i had an “attitude problem” so in 2023 i quit that job, bought a pair of socks online that said “i ❤️ my attitude problem,” and listened to “bad attitude” by meat loaf so many times that it became my #3 most played song of the year

#the attitude problem was literally not even in the room with us if you know what i mean.#literal examples she gave were ‘you talk to your coworkers in the break room about stuff that happened on a shift they didn’t work’#and ‘you ask me too many questions about the job and it makes me uncomfortable’#this after i’d been working there 16 months. clocked in 5 minutes early every single day.#had called out sick 3 times ever at that point and all because i was actually sick. all times i was sick for like a week #and still only called out one day.#spent 6 months closing registers every night while on the schedule as the cleaner.#once spent over an hour of my one precious life cleaning the dirtiest and nastiest cart of all time #because we had so few because they kept getting stolen.#went above and beyond every single day and was consistently rated ‘exceeds expectations’ on performance reviews.#and they had given me a 15-cent performance raise after telling me i was the best cleaner of all time.#and then they raised the starting wage to $17.25 and my 15-cent raise was nullified so in the end it didn’t even matter.#and i was paying $1425 a month for a no oven shithole with thin walls and insane neighbors #AND THEY REALLY THOUGHT I’D RATHER BE PROMOTED THERE THAN JUST QUIT AND KEEP THE ATTITUDE!!!

#IT HAS ARRIVED #i just finished reviewing benefits and wowowow the parental leave stuff isn’t perfect but it’s WAY WAY better than my current or prev job #basically 6 months guaranteed & most of it is paid just not paid at 100% of your salary #but enough that I should be fine #everything else looks good too I’m just trying to negotiate conference funding + getting my annual parking pass covered lol #and then my dad wants to look at everything too #but I should be able to accept by the end of the day if all goes well!!!!!!!#and then I can give notice tomorrow I think!!!!

Lol yeah I started doing this wayyyy back in 2018, but I only ran it for a year before getting distracted with real life things.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I try to make every review as entertaining as possible, whether its through actual review-like language, silly 1-2 sentence statements, or even proclaiming how much I love certain funny little Yugioh monsters that I've never heard anyone else ever say they love lol. But really, I just love talking about Yugioh cards, even if I don't consider myself super good at actually playing Yugioh.

about to start writing ch 6 and i’m so anxious about it :D

#like i hope it’s not boring and i hope the build up doesn’t fall flat…#finishing a story is always a concern of course #i want the action to be thrilling enough and the conclusion to be satisfying and i’ve really only got a month to finish the story 🫠#but i spent a few hours today reviewing my original outline and also mapping out the phases of chapter 6 #which i hope makes it easier to piece it together #also my artist showed me their wip for the the story and ahhhhhhhhh 🥹

#i was having trouble feeling excited about it bc my immediately subsequent job was to field emails from people with technical questions #but in fact. it's good to have a contract #~$85/yr dental insurance! a vision plan that is only worth it in glasses-purchasing years but at least is worth it then‚ and exists now!#if you get trapped in University HR Department Harassment Investigation Hell for more than 6 months you can just go straight to arbitration #if you're working with chronic hazard exposure they have to give you regular hazard-specific preventive care!#every J1/F1 worker just gets $1200! because immigration is fucking miserable!#there is now a review process meant to prevent people from getting fired because they 'failed their prelims' in cases where that is #overtly a fig leaf for either 'advisor got bored of your project' or 'you are a woman in a mechanical engineering lab'#and while that one's not grievable for complicated reasons we DO get to put grad workers on the review board.#anyway. um. i think i did an okay job at my negotiations job‚ overall. is my main thought here #box opener

And what if the landlord literally does not give a shit that everything in my apartment is fucking falling apart and I have a broken window from a YEAR ago that they refuse to fix and there's holes in the ceiling and maintenance's idea of fixing literally anything is to come by ONE TIME say "yeah it's broken" then FUCK OFF TO STARE AT THEIR PHONE IN THE FUCKING PARKING GARAGE and I'm sweating my goddamn balls off because the AC is broken for the 69th fucking time this week and I live in fucking FLORIDA BY THE WAY, I LITERALLY LIVE IN THE HELL STATE AND I HATE THIS FUCKIN APARTMENT THEY DO NOT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT FUCKIN ANYTHING FUCK THIS PLACE I'M SO GLAD I'M LEAVING.

$2400 a month for this bullshit when paying off a mortgage would not only be cheaper but when things break AT LEAST I CAN FIX IT BY MY FUCKING SELF AND DON'T HAVE TO RELY ON A FUCKING LANDLORD TO DO LITERALLY NOTHING ABOUT ANYTHING.

#sorry i needed to vent #theyre gonna get the spiciest fucking exit review i swear to god #i mean for like 6 fucking months they just had massive holes all over the area i walk my dog in #and instead of fixing them they just left them there so grass grew over them and you couldn't see them anymore #it took me falling down a hole and twisting my ankle before they put TRAFFIC CONES DOWN IN THE HOLES #it took them ANOTHER 3 MONTHS BEFORE THEY ACTUALLY FILLED THE HOLES IN.#after the hurricane there was broken glass everywhere from some lights that had shattered #and they literally never cleaned it up. they left broken glass and broken lights outside #all over the place #FOR MONTHS.#this is a NICE LOOKING COMMUNITY TOO. THERE'S A COMMERCIAL PLAZA UNDER IT. THERE'S BUSINESSES HERE.#so you'd think they care about it looking nice but they fucking don't.#they have our money and thats ALL they give a fuck about.

A Deadly Education - Review

I got this book from a blind date with a book at Barnes & Noble. The premises were "a gorgeous book about monsters and monstrousness"; "dark, dangerous school of magic"; and "unwilling dark sorceress destined to rewrite the roles".

The review is hidden below due to spoilers.

I went into this book completely blind because I didn't read anything about it other than what the blind date cover mentioned, so I wasn't expecting it to be a young adult kind of book (I thought it would be something more like Fourth Wing), which is partially why I gave it such a low writing score.

The writing felt... weird? I don't mind stories told in first person but in this case, the narrator felt like it was talking directly to me, as in breaking the fourth wall, and that didn't feel much like telling a story. I would have enjoyed this type of writing more when I was younger, so I guess I can say that the author is doing a good job at reaching their target.

Another thing I didn't like about the writing was that the author broke the narrative multiple times to explain details that, in my opinion, were not necessary, making it hard to keep up with the story. A lot of those explanations were also very confusing, which is also why Atmosphere has such a low score. I had trouble visualizing because the descriptions were often confusing.

The characters are fine. They are what they are: common teenagers with relatable issues (like being an outcast). Orion is the typical teenage boy that has no clue how to talk to girls, so he accidentally starts dating El without even asking or telling her his feelings until the very end. Not gonna lie, that made me chuckle a little. They are kind of cute together and remind me when I was a teen (except I was the Orion in the situation-as in not knowing how to talk to boys).

The plot is what saved the book, in my opinion. I liked the idea that the school is always moving and trying to kill its students. It gave me a little big of Hogwarts vibes.

Something else that confused me at first was the fact that this is a fantasy book set in our world. I was taken aback when I first read the mention of New York and other cities because I wasn't expecting it to happen in our world. However, I did enjoy the diversity and the importance the author gave to languages. If it wasn't for the fact that the school is trying to kill its students on a daily(nay-hourly)-basis, I would have loved to attend it just for the language learning part.

All in all, it was a fun book to read and I'm excited to see what happens next. El's mom's letter brings in the perfect cliff hanger for book two.
