Adore You (Part 6)

Part 5
Warnings: Food, secret confessions, mentions of adoption, mentions of running away, fluff, slight slow burn
“Tell me something no one else knows about you,” Ashton said, his fingers idly tracing the palm of your hand. You both laid in a makeshift fort in his living room, boxes of Chinese takeout scattered around you and some tiny portable projector playing a film you both have long forgotten about.
“Something no one knows?” you hummed, earning a nod from him. It was nearing the end of Spring break and the both of you have been talking non-stop since your first official date. It was you who asked Ashton out for the second time, feeling a sudden urge of courage. This time it was less strenuous and more comforting than anything. Your face scrunched up at his question as you thought about the answer. You almost felt brought back to the first day of classes where you had to play ice breakers in order to get to know classmates you were most likely never to see again.
“It’s not a hard question,” Ashton laughed, breaking the long silence of your pause.
“For me it is!” you exclaimed, retracting your hand from his and sitting up. Ashton sat up straight too and bit onto his bottom lip. “Besides, talking about myself is boring.”
“You’re not boring, Y/N.” Ashton responded. “I can go first if you want,” his head dipped low to look you in the eye and Ashton gave you a smile. You couldn’t help but to smile back and nod. He had a way of comforting you and you laid back down into the pillows looking up at the patterns of the blanket that covered you two. He shuffled onto his side and peered down at you as he thought for a moment.
“Now look who’s-”
“I got it!” he interjected, grinning at you in amusement. Your eyebrows rose at his reaction and you held in a giggle. “When I was seven I used to be VERY obsessed with tadpoles and woul- for a good while actually- I would carry some with me everyday to school without anyone knowing.”
“How’d you manage that?” you asked, shifting positions to lay on your side to look at him directly.
“I’d carry it in my thermos and people would just assume it was juice,” he said matter-of-factly. You laughed hard then, shaking your head at his admission. “Alright. . .your turn.” You thought for a moment, eyebrows scrunching. Ashton reached out with his thumb to rub away the wrinkled creases from your expression. “So serious,” he muttered, making you smile in return and let out a sigh.
“I once ran away when I was fifteen. Hitchhiked and got into some pickup truck with this old man. Made it to the city line and turned back. I had been gone for maybe three hours, no one was none the wiser.” A heavy silence penetrated the air, and you found yourself opening eyes you hadn’t realized you closed. Ashton was staring intently at you, worry written across his face. “I know, very dangerous for a young woman like me to hitchhike, especially alone,” you said.
“Where were you heading?” he asked instead. You had expected him to reprimand you for being so careless at a young age. That was the last you got and could see curiosity fill Ashton’s worried expression.
“To find my birth parents. I had just found out I was adopted and was spiraling over it. Don’t get me wrong, I love my parents dearly. It’s just I always felt like a black sheep, like something was wrong with me and then they tell me this huge secret a week after I turn fifteen.” You went quiet for a moment, eyes dazed as if you were placed back in that moment. “I thought if I could find my birth parents it’ll help me answer questions on why I was so different.”
You had never told anyone about it. You were content now at the fact that you were adopted, something you didn’t hide anymore. But that story of you attempting to run away, it had always been a well kept secret between you and your stuffed animals. “Aren’t you going to ask why I turned back?” you said. The two of you had somehow found yourselves laying on your backs. Ashton’s fingers playing with your own. He shook his head in response.
“Not unless you want to say,” he muttered, allowing the silence to envelop you once again. You weren’t expecting to share that part of yourself, but that was truly the only thing people didn’t know about you. Ashton just seemed so easy to talk to and you trusted him with the information. A warmth filled your stomach at his words. He wasn’t going to push and would allow you to tell him when you wanted. You turned your head to the side to look at him, eyes wide in the dim light. Ashton turned  his head to face you too, your faces inches apart. “Thank you for sharing,” he whispered, almost trying not to disturb the peace.
“Thank you for listening,” you whispered back. Your eyes flickered down to his lips then back up to meet his gaze. His lips parted, tongue ducking out to moisten the plump skin. Time seemed to slow and you could see him glance at your own mouth. Just as Ashton was leaning towards you, a knock sounded at the door. The both of you jumped in surprise at the disturbance.
“Shit-the dessert,” Ashton said, “I forgot we ordered that.” He pulled away from you and got up from the fort to grab the delivery. You sat back in your spot, feeling slightly dazed. The two of you were so close to kissing. Something you hadn’t done yet. You cleared your throat and sat up as Ashton came back inside the fort with two bowls.
“What did you do before uni?” you asked him, graciously taking the bowl with your requested dessert. You remembered him saying he had chosen to pursue a career in photography after a stint of not being in school.
“I traveled with my best friends. We were basically living a nomad type life. It was fun for a while, but I could tell we all missed home.” Ashton chuckled at a thought that came to him, “I do miss exploring the world.” He dug into his own bowl after that, your attention now back on the film that seemed to be nearing an end. After a while Ashton muttered something about it being late. You were supposed to go back to your dorm about an hour ago, but being with Ashton was too much fun. “I’ll take the couch,” he said, not really asking if you wanted to go home or stay. It was a decided fact to Ashton that you would spend the night.
“We can sleep in the fort together,” you found yourself blurting. You were feeling a bit bold. The words surprising yourself. Ashton’s eyebrows raised, a look of perplexity coming across his face. “It’s cozy and you shouldn’t have to be uncomfortable in your own home,” you added, trying to save some type of face. Ashton let a laugh slip past his lips and he gave you a dimpled smile.
“I should warn you, I am a cuddler.”

_____________
It’s a nerve wracking call, only because you’re sure Turner’s going to laugh. You’re sure she’s going to tell you that you’re probably overreacting. But you want to at least look Calum in the eye and tell him the truth, that you did call at the very least. So you hold the phone as it rings against your ear. You don’t even know what you’re going to say, how you’re going to breach the topic but you’re hoping that it’s not terrible.
“Thank you for calling Forest, how can I help?”
“Hi, I’m calling trying to get in contact with Turner. Is she available by chance?”
“Oh, uh, one second. I believe so.”
The rustling carries on. You can hear the chatter of patrons and servers alike mingling in the background. Dropping your head against the door, you wait with a thundering heart. Perhaps lightning could strike you and save you from your own anxiety and from the potentially embarrassing moment. But you doubt that the world would be that kind to you.
“Turner speaking.”
“Hi, Turner,” you greet, picking your head up sharply. You feel a small tweak run up the back of your neck at such a sharp movement. At the supply of your name in return from Turner’s greeting, you pause. How are you going to ask this?
“Is everything alright?” Turner asks in the silence.
“I think so. I-I’m calling because my boyfriend’s let me know about some photos that have surfaced of the two of us on a date. And I-I guess I’m calling to help placate his worry that it’s going to impact my ability to start with Forest.”
There’s a soft chuckle that echoes from the receiver. “Oh, no need to worry here. Not about that--what you decide to do on your own private time is truly none of our business. Of course, should you start working here, and feel that patrons or even staff are pressing hard on that boundary or things get out of control due to your relationship with the Prince, do let me know.”
There’s an exhale, you can feel it pressing at your shoulders. But you hold the wince at her words of ‘the Prince’. “I take it you already knew?”
“It may have come up in discussions during the hiring process and the impacts to you and the business. But I remain steadfast in the decision to add you to the Forest family.”
“Thank you, Turner. I appreciate it. Should anything get too out of hand, I’ll definitely let you know.”
“You are the second person to call today though, about your start here, at Forest. Seems like you are adored mightily.”
“The second?” you question. Calum promised he wouldn’t do anything else behind your back, that he’d only help when you asked him to help you.
“Your current boss thinks highly of you, dear. Is there anything else I can help with by chance? We’ll talk more about where you’re comfortable once you’re trained up on the line. Should you get to the floor and it gets bad, we’ll do what we can to accommodate you. But I think it might be best not to worry about the shadows we can’t see.”
You nod, finally letting the exhale push out from your nose. “Yeah, that sounds good. Thanks again, Turner. Hope the rest of today is good for you.”
“Thank you. Same to you. We’ll chat again on your first day.”
The call ends, a three tone beep letting you know that the other end has disconnected. Part of you wonders what Janet would’ve called about, what she might’ve had to say, but asking feels like too much of an overstep. Whatever Janet had to say didn’t appear to be bad, or you think Turner’s choice in words would’ve been different. Though it would be easy to ask Janet about the contents of the conversation, you don’t think it’s worth pushing. If Janet wanted you to know, she’d tell you. If Turner wanted to divulge more, you think she, too, would’ve given more. So you leave it where it is, lay it to rest there in the single sentence Turner gave you.
You’ve got one week left. A week left and then there won’t be any more night shifts for you. A week left taking breakfast orders between batches of biscuits. A week left of whatever it is that you and your coworkers have fallen into--Calum called it family. Said you were allowed to call them friends. But worry is a loud beast. Wouldn’t it all feel way too awkward? Wouldn’t it be better if you kept distant? Yet, you can’t help but wonder who else will tease like Declan, or Yvonne, or Crypus do. Who else is going to look out for Val? Who else is going to keep Janet from going insane with scheduling issues?
There’s no staying though. You know you can’t stay, not for what you want.  Someway, they’ll take care of each other. It is your prayer, your hope. As you slip your phone back into your pocket and play with the ring of keys in your hand, you hope that they always find a way to take care of each other long after you’re gone.
“Groceries won’t get themselves,” you whisper to yourself.
It’s so strange, that the world keeps turning. The creak of your bedroom door closing behind you is faint--so much so, that you’re not sure if you actually heard it or if you’ve imagined it given all the other times you’ve heard the sound. Above the living room, you can hear the steps of Josie. You think it’s her day off from work, but you’re not entirely sure about that. She could’ve gone out earlier before you got up and come back. In the hallway, you know the breeze will be starting to stiffen. You suspect you might even find the neighborhood cat curled up on a step trying to soak up the last of the sun’s warmth.
And yet everything just keeps going around and around. You along with it. The way it’ll always be you’re sure.
The cat hardly looks up at you as you pass it. The bowl of water is full. There’s pieces of food in the corners and you wonder if someone recently left some behind. But you make a note to add at least a can or two of food to your grocery list. It won’t hurt to have the extra for when the bowl empties. The wooden stairs creak under your weight but carry you steadily down.
Everything keeps turning--round and round. The aisles are bright. The teenager who checks you out looks bored as they scan bread, meat, the fruits, vegetables, and even the snacks. They don’t blink at the cat food you’ve put on the conveyor belt either. There’s some solace, you think, as you carry your bags back to the car, that at least there’s some normalcy. When you return, you expect that the cat’s long gone. You expect that you’ve bought just a hair more than your portion of the fridge can handle and will need to hurriedly eat something to make it all fit. It’s like clockwork as you snack on the page of baby carrots that are the culprit this grocery trip.
Your phone chimes from the counter; you watch it light up as you work on getting the box of corn dogs that you shouldn’t have bought but did so anyway into the freezer. Your first instinct is that it’s Calum. He knows your schedule just like you do. But with the box snugly fit into the freezer, you lift it to find a message from Cyprus. You’d given your number to her should she need you to cover a shift. No one had yet to contact you outside of job needs. Until now.
Wednesday. 7:30 PM. Vivant Pub. There will be no ifs, no ands, no buts.
What if I have ifs, ands, and buts? you respond but make sure to add a reminder to your calendar. You work that Tuesday, but don’t not Wednesday night.
You better leave them at your house, Cyprus answers.
Your fingers hover over your keys. You want to ask what this is about. You knew the group got together occasionally for drinks or lunch, but those gatherings were always planned aloud in the kitchen with everyone bustling in and out to set tables or clock in and out of their shift. You have never been able to attend given the way your schedule falls. And if you had been able, you usually declined to get more sleep in your day.
Who else is coming? you ask in return. Declan’s on my shit list as you know.
It’s a small get together. You can’t use catching up on sleep as an excuse though. Declan knows he’s supposed to behave. Or I’ll unleash hell on him.
Vivant’s kind of far out though. Wouldn’t Tootsie’s be closer? Vivant is a bar forty minutes out--about three cities over. It’s not classier than Tootsie's in the sense that Vivant still serves a similar menu to Tootsie's; it’s just newer. They’re able to pull in more live events and host theme nights as a way to garner patrons. It’s upscale in a way that no pub really ought to be, but it makes sense for the town it’s in. You’d heard about it opening earlier in the summer, but hadn’t given it much thought given the options around town.
I mean it is, but I’ve never been to Vivant. So, you’re coming with me. Done deal.
You could tell her that you still need to meet with your siblings and see if there’s anything they need for back to school. You could tell her a thousand things to get out of it. Yet the echo of Calum’s word rings: They’re your friends. So you don’t tell Cyprus that you’ve got other things you have your agenda. You don’t tell Cyprus that she really knows how to drop an invite. You don’t tell her that you’ve got worry in your stomach like lead about leaving or about moving on from their community and how you don’t want to make things awkward when you leave the job, but aren’t really gone.
Instead you type back two words: Done deal.
The conversation lies there, with agreement, well after you call Calum back to update him about the conversation with Turner. The agreement you’ve made with Cyprus closes on those two words. Because maybe you all are dysfunctional, and maybe you all are also family in the way you never noticed it until it was time to leave it.
When Wednesday rolls around, you find yourself staring up at the ceiling of your room. Though Calum had asked if you were going to stay, you declined. He had plans for the evening anyway, and you didn’t want to be in that castle with nothing to do. Though you knew Calum was working on the shed for you in the garden, it was still not done. There’d been some big questions about getting the unit powered, whether a line could split off from the main building and what would that mean in terms of extending the timeline. And even if you did decide that you’d wait around in Calum’s room, he’d only be there for an hour or two max after you woke up before having to leave for his plans.
The evening sun is lower than before; you can tell by the shadows. The first sign that summer had been pushed out. Fall was creeping in and would consume the heat and bright sun in just another couple weeks. You didn’t mind the crisper evenings or the brisk mornings. Summer’s heat clung to you, like children begging for candy in a grocery store. Fall feels like an opening, a rush of something that’s not come but on the way. Fall feels like promise.
“Why aren’t you here?” Charlie asks over the phone. After eating and getting dressed, you called after Charlie and Teagan’s dinner. You wanted to make the most of the time you did have before needing to head out to Vivant’s. Though, you preferred to meet Charlie and Teagan in person for back to school stuff, you wouldn’t be able to make that drive, see them, and get out on time.
“Some friends asked me to go out with them.”
“But you always make our list together,” Charlie comments.
“I’ll be back Friday to finish it in person, Charlie. Just be thinking about it, okay? Like if you need a new backpack or a new pencil holder. Just think about it.”
“Oh, okay.” You’re not sure if the answer has totally placated him, but he seems to get it in the interim.
“I want socks,” Teagan interjects. “With the lace on them. I saw a girl wear them today and they’re so cute!”
You snort. You’re glad Teagan’s not asking for anything outlandish and that she seems unphased by the slight change in the normal routine. She’s always had a more level head, but you know that at the end of the day she is still a kid. You always want her to be a kid. So lace socks it will be. “Got it, Teag.”
“Oh! Our uniforms changed colors this year,” Charlie interjects with enthusiasm.
“Did they? What color are they now?” you ask and it launches Charlie into a discussion about how the grade levels get a different school color to denote their grade. Charlie’s traded in pale blue for purple this year. You whistle at the upgrade, even though you knew his uniform would change colors. Teagan grumbles that she’s still stuck in white and how it’s not fair that her color is boring.
“You’ll get a new exciting color soon,” you state as comfort.
“Yeah, I will. Just sucks right now,” Teagan comments. “Charlie, that’s gross!”
“I had a booger,” Charlie returns.
“Get a tissue then! Ew. Give me the phone. You need to wash your hands now.”
The good thing about Charlie and Teagan is that there is no dull moment. There's a shuffle of the phone before Teagan’s voice floats through again. “You promise to get us Friday?” she asks. Her voice is soft.
Your heart thunders at the sound of her question. What happened? You don’t want to think the worst. You keep telling yourself not to think the worst. Thinking the worst is only going to serve bigger problems.
“Is something wrong?” you ask. Your mouth is dry as the words form.
“Just--just promise you’ll get us Friday.”
“I will. I promise. Teagan if anything is going on, you can tell me, you know that right?” Please just tell me, you beg internally.
“I know.”
You worry about the sigh. You worry that if you push her too hard she’ll clam up on you, shut you out entirely. “We can go anywhere you want Friday, okay? Anywhere.”
“Just want to see you,” Teagan responds.
“Hands are clean!” Charlie announces as he gets closer to the phone. Teagan’s plea gets lost in Charlie’s new demand that he get cool tie dye socks. It takes every ounce of pressure to keep your mouth shut. The muscle in your jaw twitches. It’s not the time for tie dye socks, but Charlie goes on and on and Teagan laughs. The window’s closed, the moment gone now. You can’t push her even if you want to. Even if it burns the tip of your tongue. So you let Charlie rant on about the socks.
You know colors are well outside of the regulation for the school uniforms but that’s a problem for Diana and Melvin. You’re getting him the tie dye socks at the end of the day. You talk for another twenty minutes before you have to get off the phone--most of the conversation revolves around their days at school. You listen intently to the way Teagan speaks though. She’s getting along with her friends and so far has not had any issues with the teachers. It still doesn’t leave you as you hang up about her soft plea that you pick them up Friday. That she needed to hear your promise.
“Just let them be okay,” you whisper to the silence of your car. You just need them to be okay.
Vivant is more packed than anticipated. The parking lot looks like it could spill over at any second, cars pulled and backed down the aisles. You circle through the four lanes and manage to catch a space between two SUV’s. It looks like a close call, but street parking is on a meter, which you know will be a pain to monitor--sober or drunk. So you make the spot work and carry on towards the door. The music is spilling out from the inside of the pub, thanks to the outdoor patio. People stand outside, drinks in hand as well.
You hate to admit that it is a nicer appearing place than Tootsie’s as you step through the door. It’s not as crowded inside as the outside appears to be. Not at the front, but as you push through the initial thin crowd and move deeper, you see the bodies lined at the bar. It looks like most people are still getting the night started. You peer around, trying to see if you can spot Cyprus or Declan, since they’re the only two you know that are going to be there. But so far, you’re coming up empty handed.
Your phone shakes from your pocket and you take a moment to pull it out. Back patio, near the fire pits. It’s from Cyprus. A picture follows it up of her and Declan, grinning hard into the camera. We may have gotten started without you. Sorry!
Typical, you send back but smile at the thought of them apologetic about already being a drink in or so. Grabbing a drink, be out soon. You settle in at the bar at a clear corner. There’s two bartenders working. One that looks a little bit older than the other. The younger one slides to you almost immediately after you press into the wooden counter. “What can I get you started with?”
“What’s on draft?” you ask. With the options listed off and your ID checked, you settle on Guinness.
“Opening or closing that tab?”
“Closing,” you answer.
“You got it. Thanks for making our lives easier,” the man laughs. His curls are wild around his face, resting against his shoulders. A scrunchie lives on his wrist but it seems to be more decorative as he never reaches for it to secure up his hair. Though, you wonder if the black velvet with what looks like stars on it might be indicative that the scrunchie was gifted by someone important.
“Any time,” you return, singing the receipt. “Best of luck out there.” You tip the glass to the people still pouring around the bar.
“We accept cash, cards, and prayers,” he snorts before tapping onto the bar and moving on.
You push on through the thickening crowd until you’re deep at the doors that lead outside. The rush of warmth and the breeze mix as you push open the doors. To your right there’s a hodgepodge of people clustered together. No one you recognize but before you can even fully look left a cheer erupts. You catch your name in the mix, spinning and there--a good fourth if not half of the kitchen staff are bundled up on the left side of the patio, surrounding two fire pits. There are balloons, a set that says congrats, tied to a pole. They bump into each other with another slight breeze.
Cyprus reaches first you first, grabbing your arm to bring you closer. “Don’t act so shocked,” she laughs.
You watch the crowd, here assembled for you. “I-I am shocked,” you return. There’s a mix of emotions--joy to see all these folks rallying for you specifically. But you can see just under that is the sadness of knowing you’re leaving. Friday’s the last day for you; the end of the era. You’d pulled out all the chef’s coats already, washed and pressed the ones that you plan to turn in tomorrow. Janet’s let you have until Monday to turn in everything.
But there’s that crowd--smiling and cheering at your entrance. There’s Cyprus pulling you in and and in. You’re buried in hugs. Declan wraps you up first, arms swaddling you. “I’m going to miss you. Even if you were a stick in the mud sometimes,” he teases.
“I’ll still be around to be a stick in the mud,” you laugh. “But I’m going to miss you too.”
Yvonne catches you next. Her arms rubbing over your back. “It doesn’t feel real,” she whispers. “I’m happy for you though. So happy for you.”
You’re shuffled from person to person, hugs and congratulations given the entire way. In the back though, you spy Calum. The baseball cap and sunglasses do well to keep his identity concealed to the outside, but you watch the way he watches you. The squish of his cheeks as he laughs along with Delcan about something that’s been said, but his gaze doesn’t fall from you for too long. You feel it, even through the cotton of your shirt. Calum’s adorned in a green flannel open over a black tank. It’s the most casual you’ve seen him in a while. He looks good, like he could fit in with the crowd around him.
Val’s the last person before you reach him. Her hug is shorter though as she pulls back, she punches at your bicep. “I’ll be taking your spot. Still not going to give up that biscuit recipe?”
You laugh. “Family secret. Haven’t heard back about a secret brother though, so I fear your chances are growing slimmer for a sequel.”
“I’ll take a sister too,” Val snorts. She pats the spot she hit and then nods over her shoulder. It’s always obvious, you know. The way you and Calum are always pulled in close to each other, without thought. It’s easy. It feels right to keep close when he’s around.
You roll your eyes, but walk on until you’re just a couple steps from Calum. Declan clocks your approach and pats Calum’s shoulder before stepping away. A declaration of needing another drink is his departure from the group. “You said you had plans,” you comment around a sip of your drink.
“They fell through,” Calum returns with a grin.
“Nice of you to take the time to join.” You take another step closer. The fire pits aren’t on, not yet this early in the season. It’s not cold enough yet. You give it another few weeks and they’ll be on in full force. Even still, Calum’s warmth radiates. You feel drawn into it like a moth to a light. You want to chase it and have it bathe your skin eternally.
“I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.” Calum sets his bottle down, the Corona seemingly not interesting anymore. His embrace is tight. His cologne filters into nose as you wrap your arms around him too.
Calum presses a kiss to your temple as he pulls away. The brim of the hat bumps you just a little with the action. “Don’t let me hog you though. You’re the person of the hour. I’ll be here.”
“Awkward?” you ask, eyes trailing down to his lips. It’s a brief look before you look back up at his face.
“No, they’re cool. I’m cool. But I know this is your time, so I’m just being mindful of that.”
“I appreciate that. Can I kiss you? Before I romp around.” It’s public, you know. But the desire stirs in the pit of your stomach and it’s crazy to think that the slight dampness from his drink makes the pink tint of his lips that more alluring.
His palm is warm on your cheek. “You don’t really have to ask, baby. Of course.”
The press is soft--the taste of his beer coating his lips. You know your lips are bitter too. But you revel in the embrace. Calum’s grin brightens his face as you pull away. “Love you,” he whispers.
“Love you,” you return just as softly. There’s part of you that waits for the teases, a whistle or comment. But there’s nothing but chatter around you.
As you’re reabsorbed back into the crowd, you get circled. Declan starts the chain--a retelling of all the work stories they have about you. The first time you showed up on the job felt rather boring to you. You’d put in the code to get through the gate, walked into the kitchen, and noticed a note from Janet about the times that you needed to be mindful of. She’d compiled a list of the normal breakfast that everyone had. You stared at the list, memorizing it and then out of boredom dug out what you needed to make biscuits. The door opened to the kitchen in a rush as you pulled the second batch of biscuits out and there Declan stood, sniffing like a dog chasing a scent. When he asked if he could try one, you shrugged and quipped back, I’m sure you could. But if that’s asking for permission, we should try again. Declan howls even as he retells it, how he’d been so shocked at your dry wit, but that he knew from that day on that he’d always like you. That Declan knew you’d be someone special--even if you were a tough nut to crack.
Around and around you hear stories of how touched people were at your effortless grace--how you’d helped Cyprus with her hosting uniform when her hands had been aching and cramping all day. How you’d been the first person to greet Yvonne on her first day--asking her if she’d eaten before arriving and if she needed anything. You’d assured her that the job wasn’t too bad, as long as she could cook and follow directions. The more and more you hear--how you’d helped Kennedy change his flat tire, or sat with Jennifer’s kid when she interviewed--the more you realize that as boring as you called your life you’d been a force of kindness. You’d assumed anyone would’ve done the things you did, but you can see now just how impactful those actions were.
You still want to think that anyone would’ve done those things. You still want to believe that everyone has that same kind of grace. But you realize maybe that it has been something about you. Maybe it’s okay that your life felt boring, and maybe even as shitty of a road it’d been previous, it’d all led to this. To the invisible threads that connected people to each other. One simple act of kindness can be the difference in the universe. It’s all invisible strings around you and you are at the center--tethered to people in ways that felt so mundane to you, but now you realize are much more significant.
“Any stories you want, or can, share?” Declan questions. He looks over to Calum, who’s kept the outskirts as promised. “I think we’re all curious how this came about.”
“Cake,” Calum returns with a laugh.
“Technically, a sandwich,” you correct. “You stumbled into the kitchen drunk one night to make a sandwich and hadn’t seen me.”
Calum snorts at the correction, “And you told me that you could lead a horse quieter through the castle. But then I asked a couple weeks later for their help baking a cake for my mum’s birthday.”
“I still uphold that I could've led a wild horse quieter through the castle than you making that sandwich.”
“If I’m honest, you probably could’ve,” Calum laughs. “But it’s, uh, not scandalous.”
You know how scandalous it actually is; the words exchanged in the heat of the moment, how you two promised to consume each other-- from flesh down to the bones. But you know in reality it was the conversations, how the interest started was the way that Calum wanted to talk to you more and more as the weeks went on. It’s how you wanted to come in earlier to talk to Calum too. The truth, sometimes, is boring. “I liked talking to him,” you confess.
“I liked talking to them,” Calum states. “Didn’t hurt that the cake didn’t turn into a disaster.”
You throw an elbow back just a little to nudge Calum’s rib. “It only didn’t turn into a disaster because I was there, Mister Are-You-Sure-We-Need-Baking-Soda?”
“It was a valid question,” Calum huffs.
“Cakes need to rise.”
“I know that now. Thanks to you.”
“You’re welcome.”
Cyprus fake gags. “I love your love. But speaking of cakes, I do have cupcakes for us to enjoy as well. Please eat them so I do not take them back home. I do not need 2 dozen cupcakes.”
The group migrates over to the boxes, next to the balloons. A few cliques form as people take their respective treats. By the time you get your hands on one, the first dozen and a half is done. You pluck up a vanilla one and get half of it down in one bite. You know the bakery Cyprus got them from, and it’s just as good as you remember them being.
“Need another drink?” Calum asks. You finished yours a bit ago, but hadn’t made moves to go inside for more.
“No, no I’m good. Thank you though.”
“Of course. I’m going to go inside for a second, I’ll be right back. Do you want something else even if it’s not another beer? Soda? Water?”
“Uh, a Coke would be great.” After the taste of the cupcake, you want something sweet.
“A Coke it is.” Calum squeezes your hand before slipping inside of the bar. The conversation surrounding you settles to how kids are doing. You listen to the excitement about teething and first steps, alongside the celebrations of the first couple weeks of school being survived. There’s fear though about children getting sick and bringing it home. Parents swap secrets and tricks to help keep sickness at bay. All of it reminds you of Teagan and Charlie. But specifically the plea Teagan had.
“Baby, you okay?” the question is soft.
As you blink, you realize a cup of fizzing soda is in front of you. You’ve lost track of the time you’d spaced out. “Yeah,” you answer slowly to the voice--Calum’s you’re sure. It’s not that you aren’t okay. You just know that as you answer this, you are opening up to a much deeper line of questioning. Calum won’t let the topic go easily.
“You sure?”
Not answering Calum will cause him to worry. Answering Calum will cause him to worry. There is truly no winning in this regard at all. You’ll be honest though. “Yeah, just. I'm a little worried about Teagan is all.”
“If you need to swing by and see them, I don’t think anyone would mind. But if you want to say, just know I’m here for you.”
“I’m going to see them Friday. I’ll be okay.”
Calum’s hand is warm as it surrounds yours. He squeezes only for a moment or two, but it’s enough that you know he’s there for you. “Do you want to stay? I can fake sick.”
A soft chuckle leaves your throat. You squeeze back at Calum’s hand before threading your fingers through his. “I don’t think you have to go that far. I didn’t expect you to take it easy,” you comment, looking now at the clear glass in Calum’s hand.
“Meetings in the morning, unfortunately. Or else I would’ve gone much harder.”
“Getting older sucks, don’t it?”
“Only a little bit,” Calum laughs. The evening winds down slowly--it starts first with the parents needing to get back to their children, then the people who have morning shifts, and then the people who have respectable bedtimes. You stay behind to help clean up, even though Cyprus and Declan both tell you to leave several times. It’s not a big clean up. Calum takes the last cupcake so they can break down the boxes and toss them into the trash. You unravel the balloons from where they’ve been tied down and tie the bunch around your wrist.
In the walk back to your car, Calum at your side, you pause to watch Declan and Cyprus head to their respective cars. There’s laughter between them, you hear it echoing against the night. You hope not to forget that sound.
“You’re somber,” Calum notes, paused behind you.
“I’ve never had people care about me leaving a job like this before. I mean sure, Ms. Shirley was sad to see me go, but she knew that I wouldn’t be there forever.”
“It’s like I said before. They’re your friends, baby.”
“I guess I just wish it didn’t take me leaving to realize it.”
“Well, you still got time to make it work, baby. You’ve still got time.”
Time is such a funny word and concept. The seconds pass in the blink of an eye. The minutes fall like sand. The hours move like a breeze. You know it’s there and then it’s gone. You’ll never be able to catch it.
“Thanks for coming to this,” you return, facing Calum again. “I appreciate it.”
“Of course, you’re welcome.” His smile is soft and the two of you start back to your car. “Do you want to come back to my place or head home?”
“I’ve got to get some stuff sorted for Friday, so I’m going to head home. But I will be free until Monday.” You think there’s a dinner happening on Friday. Calum hadn’t given too many details about it, but it was something he needed to attend from what you were told.
“Saturday then? I’m still ironing out details with some friends for drinks in the evening, and would love to have you along.”
“Friends or the boys?” you ask. It’s a small tease as you do know that there is a collection of three other guys Calum’s especially close too. You’d yet to meet them. Your schedule being the most unforgiving at the time.
“Drinks with the boys, yes,” Calum laughs. “But I mean it. I’d love for you to join. IF you can of course after you see Teagan and Charlie.”
Calum offers it tenderly, like he might be scared that you won’t believe him. You do though. As much as you had on your plate, there’s always a sense of calm when Calum’s around. A little bit of separation--you know that life won’t stop spinning for you, but when you can steal moments away with Calum it feels like life is stopping. You feel like you can soak it all up.
“It’s a date, then. With all of them, specifically.”
Calum’s kiss to the back of your hand is quick as you’re paused outside the driver side door. “Silly, silly goose. But I’m happy you can join. Text me when you get home, yeah?”
“Always.”
“I’ll let you know when I get home too,” Calum assures.
“Promise?” you tease.
“Always,” he grins.
______________________________________
The curtains flutter as you pull to a complete stop outside the house. The engine is still knocking gently as the door flies open. Teagan’s figure stands in the now empty doorway. Behind her, you spot Melvin who’s pushing up from the stairs. “Teagan, sweetheart, please wait for a knock next time. We need to make sure you stay safe,” Melvin laughs.
Charlie is slow around the bend, his smile bright as he looks at you. You smile over to him, but quickly turn back to Teagan. She looks normal--a bounce to her as she waits. Maybe it was all a fluke. Maybe it was just the nerves about going back to school after the summer. “Hi, Teag,” you greet once you’re up the short set of stairs.
She greets you with a hug, arms wrapping around your legs. “Missed you.”
“I’m here now, Teag. I’m here now. Ready to go to the toy store?”
“Born ready!”
There’s still a small battle with jackets, light for the evening, but still necessary as you hear Diana gather Teagan and Charlie to take a pick from the ones in the hall closet. But once they’re layered up, you take a hand of theirs each and start back down the steps. Teagan’s in first and slides all the way to the passenger side of the back seat. Charlie climbs in second. They make quick work of getting buckled in, but the entire time there’s a prickle--the eyes of Diana boring holes into you.
“Have we thought about anything else needed for school?” you ask, reversing out of the driveway.
“Just the socks,” Charlie answers. “You’ve got everything else. Or at least I do.”
“Fair enough. Anything for you Teag?”
“Not at the moment.”
“Just give a call if you need anything.” You hope Charlie still has the piece of paper you gave him with your number on it.
“When do you start your new job?” Charlie asks.
“Monday. I start it on Monday.”
“Scared?”
You hum at the question. Maybe to you starting something new isn’t all that new to you. You’ve started over and over before. This is just another one of those times. “Not scared. But I think I am nervous about not embarrassing myself on the first day,” you laugh.
“You’ll do great,” he reassures. “You’re already pretty awesome.”
“Thanks, Charlie.”
At a red light, you take a glance into the rearview mirror. Teagan’s staring out the window. Charlie’s staring back at you. It’d all look normal if not for the soft echo of Teagan’s plea in your mind. “School’s still going good?” you ask.
It’s only been a couple days, but yet the fear keeps pressing the question. You want it so desperately to just be something with school. The question you keep trying to swallow back, yet keeps pushing to the forefront of your mind is what if your parents have slipped up? What if things are getting bad like they did for you? You’re in no position to take Charlie and Teagan in. You’d do it if necessary. You’d do whatever you needed for them.
Charlie shrugs at the question. “I don’t think I’m going to like my science teacher.”
“Why not?”
“He’s mean. Spits a lot when he talks too.”
You grimace at the mental image; the fury of a red faced man shouting at a group of children, coupled with the globs of spit that fly around him. “I think I should get you a poncho, huh?” Charlie howls at the suggestion. Teagan’s laughter joins in too, much softer than Charlie’s. “What about you Teag?”
“School’s fine; I have friends in most of my classes,” she states.
The conversation falls after that into silence. You have to pay attention to the road. The radio’s playing softly. There’s a hum of the car passing you by and utter dread solidifying in your gut. It’s too big of a leap--one bad mood from Teagan is not enough for you to make this much of a conclusion, but your gut’s sinking and you cannot stop it.
Charlie’s first into the store, tugging you by the arm. But Teagan stays close to you. Where you’re normally fighting to keep an eye on both of them, Charlie’s taking charge and leading the trio of you. Teagan’s hold on your hand is tight. The store itself isn’t too busy. There’s a few families from the looks of it. A father carrying the littlest of the family on his shoulders. A mother carrying her child on her hip. You suspect in the coming weeks though the place will become busier--the closer and closer it goes to Christmas.
Charlie at the helm leads the trio into the section where the Lego sets are. You let go of his hand so that he can navigate a bit more freely. He pauses and picks up various sets, turning to look at the back of the boxes. Teagan shows only vague interest in the few immediately near her. “Don’t you think we should beg Santa for a sister to your unicorn?” you ask Teagan.
She laughs, head shaking as she looks up. “Rosie already takes up my entire bed. No sisters for her.”
You shrug. “Looks like you might just need a bigger bed then. It’s the only real solution here.”
“Look! They have Star Wars!” Charlie shouts. He’s only at the end of the aisle, and you look up to see the set in his hands. You think you make out one of the ships from the series, but you wouldn’t be able to place it exactly. “It’s a republic ship, but it’s still cool!”
“Oh don’t tell me you’re going to the dark side, Charlie. I’d hate to fight my own brother, but will if I must,” you return.
“No, no dark side. Not yet anyways,” Charlie tacks on with a dark cackle. He places the box back and turns to look at the items behind him.
With only a soft tuft of laughter, you look back to Teagan. She’s wrapped herself around your forearm now, clinging to you but uninterested in the items around her.
“What was it like with Mom and Dad before?” Teagan asks as the two of you follow behind Charlie to the train sets.
“What do you mean?” you ask.
“You said that they didn’t tuck you in and that you didn’t get bedtime stories. But we do get that. So what was it like before?”
It’s not fair. You know that. Teagan’s asking you a genuine question but you don’t want to taint the view they have of Diana and Melvin. They’re much too young; they’ve had a good childhood. But that lead in your stomach grows heavier. The very suspicion you’d prayed was wrong creeps back up. It burns your throat like bile as your body grows hot. Please let me be wrong.
“Has something changed?” you ask in return.
“You’re avoiding my question.”
“And you’re avoiding mine. So I guess we know where the other got it from. Teag, has something changed?”
“I wasn’t supposed to be up.” The start of her sentence comes out soft, reminiscent of the first snowflake that falls. You hope it’s not the calm before the blizzard. You still hope that maybe Teagan overhead something and is misconstruing it. She is only a child. There’s so much she doesn’t understand; there’s still so much the world hasn’t done to her yet. You want her to stay that way. It won’t be forever. No one gets through the world with their share of scars. But you don’t want Teagan’s world to be shattered like yours was.
“I won’t tell on you.” But you will set fire to that house if need be. You will tear your parents limb from limb if they don't keep it together for Charlie and Teagan’s sake. You will be more than their worst regret. You know that in the marrow of your bones.
“Dad was talking to Mom; it sounded bad. Mom hadn’t been reading or tucking me in. Dad does it. And that’s fine. Dad does great with it. I just--I missed Mom doing it. She did read and tuck me in last night. But we only got through one story. I talked to Dad about it. I just wanted ot make sure everything was okay.”
“Did you or Mom get sleepy first?” You can’t ask her if Diana’s words were slurred. You don’t dare try to ask if something smelled different. Teagan wouldn’t have a concept of what would even smell different, how to place the sterile stench of alcohol on someone’s breath.
“Mom did. Which is okay. She’s been up late, she says. Working or something. I didn’t mean to cause more trouble.”
Your palms are wet, you know they are. You can feel the sweat prickling at your skin. You can be wrong. All you had was Teagan’s recount--noticing that she wasn’t getting tucked in or being read bedtime stories by Diana like normal. It could be nothing. Maybe Diana was taking on more hours at work. Perhaps there was some sort of logical explanation for all of these behaviors. But it could be sinister. It could be that Diana’s relapsed, returning to drinking.
“Did you hear anything else? Anything specific?” You’ll need something solid. Though your gut lurches at the idea that you’ll be dropping them back off to that house, you don’t think taking them would help at all. You couldn’t hold them hostage for the weekend or for the week. You don’t have the grounds. Nothing that would hold up in court at all at the very least. But you know. You know in your bones that something bad is happening.
You won’t be going anywhere though. Even if the storm gets tough, you will fight it out for Teagan and Charlie. You’ll do whatever you can for them. They have the shot you didn’t. They have something that you could’ve only dreamed of. You’ll be damned if it’s taken from them.
“Dad was going through the cabinets or something. There were things opening and closing. So I couldn’t really hear what was being said. That was Tuesday. It’s sort of gotten better though. I swear it has.”
Is Teagan trying to convince herself or you? The fear quakes her throat and you realize that behind your own fear is a child. Teagan’s just a fucking child. “Hey, hey, no,” you start, squatting down to her level. “No, you’re not in trouble. It’s okay. It’s okay,” you reassure, cradling her face.
“I really didn’t mean it.”
“Thank you,” you return. “For telling me. You’re not in trouble, okay? You’re not.”
“What if she never reads to me again?”
“She’ll read to you. I’ll read to you if I have too. Okay? I’ll do whatever I need to. You just call me. If it gets bad again, call me, okay? I don’t care if it’s in the middle of the night. You call me.”
She needs to believe you. You need her to believe you through and through that you’ll come and get them. Even if you all have always had a bit of a wedge, their own natural curiosity as to why you weren’t around before and your own stubbornness not to ruin something good for them, the obvious tension between you and your parents, even with all that, they’re still your siblings. They are still young. They still deserve everything you didn’t get.
Teagan nods. “I will. Thanks.”
“Of course. What else are big siblings for?”
“Lace socks and looking at the doctor’s kit.”
You snort at Teagan’s clear directive to go take a look at the other toys now. “Sure thing. Just, you know I love you right?” You offer wiping at her cheeks with your thumbs. Only a few tears fell, but you just need her to know that you’ll be there. Come hell, high water, fires, you will always be there now.
She nods. “Yeah, I know. I love you too.”
“Good, good,” you whisper. Teagan steps in for a hug, her arms winding around your neck. It’s a tight hug, even you know it, but you hold Teagan close, hoisting her up onto your hip you stand.
She laughs, still clinging to your neck. “Charlie, c’mon. We’re leaving you,” she calls out to her brother. It’s the sign that she’s ready to go. Maybe she’s ready to drop what had been plaguing her. You hope that she can leave it here in the toy aisles, that she can drop it onto your shoulders for you to worry about, for you to fret over.
Charlie huffs, putting the train down but takes your hand. You take the lead, carrying Teagan on one side, keeping Charlie close to the other and start off to the other end of the store. There’s a collection of other toy kits for different professions--astronauts, hair stylists, construction workers. You hadn’t known about Teagan’s sudden interest in medicine. She’s generally a healthy kid, so is Charlie. The most you’ve heard of them talking about doctors is at their yearly appointments and when either one of them caught a cold. It might’ve been something at school that came up, though you think anything surrounding careers is much too young for Charlie or Teagan to worry about seriously.
“What kind of doctor do you want to be?” you ask as you set her down.
“There’s different kinds?” Teagan returns staring up at the kit with the white coat and stethoscope.
“Yeah. There’s like the doctor you see when you go to get shots and stuff, who practices general medicine. Then there’s doctors that work with specific kinds of sickness and specific body parts and organ systems. You could be an eye doctor. You could be a nurse. Or be a pharmacist. There’s a lot of different things inside of medicine.”
“Like the dentists?” Charlie questions.
“Yeah. There’s oral surgeons too.”
“Are their doctors for your brain?” Teagan poses.
You nod. “Yeah, like doctors who study the physical brain and study how to operate on them--brain surgeons. Then there’s people who study how the brain works and how it changes over time and stuff in your environment--like a psychologist or psychiatrist.”
“I don’t know what I want to do. Just want to help people, I think,” Teagan answers.
“Well, the good thing is that you’ve got time to figure it all out.”
“Maybe at the library I can check out a book about all the kinds of doctors.” It’s a gentle suggestion and you nod in agreement. Charlie wonders a few steps over. You spy an excavation kit that seemingly has caught his eye.
How much has Charlie noticed any changes? How much of Teagan’s story could be reaffirmed by Charlie? But if Charlie’s not bringing it up, you worry you could plant the wrong seed. There’s already enough concern and fear. You don’t want to keep making a pit that didn’t need to be deeper, deeper. It would only serve worse for wear in the long run. The only thing you can think of as you watch them is that you’re praying you’re wrong. You hope you’re so fucking wrong.

“Roller derby!” Ashton cheered, getting the video started.
“It’s a sport of ladies beating up other ladies!” Calum chirped.
“Everything about this screams ‘Don’t do it, Michael!’,” Michael shook his head.
“We’re gonna fall, we’re gonna get pushed, we’re gonna probably break something,” Luke said, “And we’re gonna do it with the LA Derby Dolls!”
“I’m actually extra excited we’re doing this with the Derby Dolls because Ashton’s younger sister is the one that’s gonna teach us all about the sport, and I’m really hoping she yells at him a lot,” Michael snickered.
“Oh, you know I’m going to,” you snickered from off-camera, already sitting in the chair for your interview.
“This is not why we came here today, Y/N,” your brother reminded you as he and the boys found their own seats across from you.
“That’s why I came here,” Calum shrugged.
“Alright, guys,” Rachel chuckled from behind the camera, “We’re ready when you are.”
“Awesome!” Luke grinned, “Y/N, why don’t you introduce yourself to get us started?”
“Hi!” you giggled, “My name is Y/N Irwin and I am one of the Lead Jammers for the LA Derby Dolls!”
“Irwin?” Michael wiggled his eyebrows obnoxiously, succeeding in making you laugh.
“Yes! I am Ash’s baby sister who acts much older than him,” you smiled brightly, earning nods of agreement from everyone including your brother.
“What will we be doing today?” Luke asked.
“I’ll be teaching you the basics of the sport – how to maneuver the course, how to stop, how to fall safely, how to score,” you informed them, “Then we’ll get the rest of the girls and have you play!”
“So we’re just jumping right in then,” Michael looked overwhelmed already.
“I’m just excited to hit some people,” Ashton grinned.
“We don’t hit people for the sake of hitting them, Ash, and you have no right to pretend you don’t know that,” you reminded him. He simply grumbled as the rest of the boys chuckled.
“How well do you think we’re going to do?” Luke asked you. You let out a deep breath.
“Do I have to answer honestly?” you wondered. They rolled their eyes, nodding their heads. “I think... I think you’re gonna go out there... You’re gonna...do some stuff... You’re gonna learn a lot...” you trailed off.
“How hurt are we gonna get?” Calum chimed in. You gave them a nervous smile.
“Yes,” you nodded. Luke and Calum looked confused while Michael and Ashton just groaned loudly. “Alright, let’s get out there!” you chirped, hopping up from your chair.
~
The next couple of hours were just spent teaching the boys how to play and giving them a few practice runs with the team once they got the hang of everything. Once they did all of that, it was time to put them in an actual game. They were doing well for the most part – obviously messing up a few times, but no one expected their very first time to be perfect – but nothing really exciting happened until the very end.
Michael had been having trouble with his role as Jammer, unable to score even a single point in any round. You could tell he was frustrated with himself, but encouraging him seemed to help, so that was what you did. He responded well when you would yell out to the boys, so as he took the star cap from you and put it on his helmet, you just reminded him of everything he needed to do and to do it fast.
Once the round started, Michael was having a bit of trouble getting to the front. You could see on his face that he was already becoming discouraged, but his eyes widened once he found an opening and took it.
“Go, Michael!” you shouted over the sound of the skates, watching him break out of the pack. He skated as fast as he possibly could, coming back up behind you before you knew it. “Come on, Michael!” you encouraged as he flew through the group again, “You got this!” He went around the track again, but the moment the referee blew the whistle as he was coming up behind you, he must have panicked.
You felt Michael's hands on your sides as he tried not to run into you, but it immediately sent you both to the ground. You fell on the spot while he slid a couple of feet farther away, but you weren’t even paying attention to the pain you felt shooting through your elbow when your pad made contact with the concrete.
“That’s what I’m talking about, Mikey!” you smiled widely. He quickly perched himself up on his hands, looking at you.
“Did I do it?!” he asked.
“Yes!” you told him, making him and the other boys cheer. Michael quickly crawled back to you, throwing his arms around you and pulling you on top of him as he flopped onto his back. “I knew you could do it, Mikey!” you beamed, hugging him back just as tightly.
Once you released each other so the boys could celebrate, you heard Rachel call them over for final thoughts and, not long after, the end of the shoot. You all cheered, happy your brother and his friends finally got to try something you enjoyed, and that they did so well.
As the boys made their way to talk to your coach, you and a few teammates slipped into the locker room to dry off and get changed. And it was then that you couldn’t ignore your elbow anymore.
Michael’s POV
"Thank you for letting us film with you guys today," Ashton said as they walked up to your coach.
"Oh, it's no problem!" Cassie smiled, "Anything for our favorite member's brother."
"Don't say that; it'll go to his head!" Calum insisted, laughing when it made Ashton shove him.
They made mindless chatter for a few more minutes before being interrupted.
"Coach!" one of your teammates jogged over from the locker room door, "I think you should come to the locker room."
"What's wrong?" she asked, her voice now laced with concern.
"It's Y/N."
And the boys felt their hearts drop.
~
Your POV; Two hours later
After your coach gave you the go-ahead to leave, you and your brother made your way back to your shared apartment. Ashton had always been an attentive older brother, especially after you became closer as adults, and today was no exception. He ordered you to sit on the couch, making you roll your eyes – you were still his little sister, after all – but did as you were told anyway, too tired from the day’s events to argue.
Ashton came back into the room a few minutes later with two drinks and a pack of frozen vegetables. You instantly took the bag and placed it under your elbow, sighing at the relief it provided, while your brother simply cocked an eyebrow.
"Why didn't you say anything when it happened?" Ashton asked. You looked at him for a moment before sighing again.
"'Cause I... Mikey was so happy he scored... I didn't wanna ruin that..." you murmured, looking down at your lap, "And we were almost done filming anyway... I didn't wanna have to stop and make everyone worried about me..."
"You're an idiot," he exhaled sharply.
You barely chuckled, "I know."
“Mike’s been worried about you since Mariah came to get your coach, y’know,” your brother informed you, “Cal and Luke have had to force him not to come over to give you time to relax.”
“I can still relax while he’s here,” you frowned.
“We’ll see how you feel about that in an hour,” Ashton snorted, pulling out his phone to text the group that they could come by now. And he wasn’t going to pretend he didn’t notice you smiling to yourself at the idea of Michael finally being able to visit.
~
20 minutes later
“We come bearing ice cream!” Michael announced as Ashton moved out of the way to let him, Luke, and Calum come into the apartment. You looked over from where you were sitting on the couch, smiling at them as they walked into the room.
“Someone say ‘ice cream’?” you asked as your face lit up.
“Yes, I did,” he grinned back at you, showing you the cardboard holder with four cups from Dairy Queen in it as well as another cup in his other hand.
“How are you feeling?” Calum asked. He, Luke, and Ashton went to sit on one couch after getting their cups while Michael chose to plop down – carefully – beside you, all of them looking at the bag of frozen peas underneath your elbow.
“A little bruised, but I’m fine,” you assured them, quietly thanking Michael when he handed you your treat, “Not the worst injury I’ve ever had and definitely won’t be the last.”
“You’re still stupid for not saying anything,” Calum insisted, much like your brother had. You simply smiled, moving your gaze back to the television as everyone settled in for the movie.
~
Three hours later
You were now halfway through the second movie, struggling to keep your eyes open. Your Dairy Queen cups had long since been discarded, and you could just barely hear the dialogue over someone’s snores. You didn’t know which boy it was, but you knew it wasn’t the one beside you when he spoke for the first time in three hours.
“M’sorry ‘bout your elbow,” Michael mumbled randomly, careful not to wake up the three boys sprawled out throughout the living room as they slept.
“Wasn’t your fault, Mikey,” you shook your head.
“Yeah, it was,” he sighed, “I hit you; I knocked you down...”
“But it was an accident,” you reminded him, “And accidents happen.”
"Don't want my accidents to hurt you..."
"I swear I'm fine, Mikey," you assured him, "You remember that race where Chelsea's skate hit my ankle and I was practically useless for two months? That was a million times more painful than this."
"Didn't like when you got hurt then either," he mumbled.
You looked at him for a moment – your mind drifting off to Ashton’s words earlier – before smiling to yourself. He was clearly trying not to meet your gaze, pretending he didn't even notice it as his eyes were back on the TV.
You kissed his fabric-covered shoulder before laying your head on it, making him finally look down at you again. He smiled slightly himself, pressing a soft kiss to the top of your head and laying his cheek there.
His hand accidentally brushed yours as he went to rest it somewhere else, but was surprised when he felt your own reach for it and bring it back. His heart skipped a beat when you pulled it onto your lap, tangling your fingers with his and squeezing lightly. He felt you smile to yourself again, prompting him to relax his body.
But neither of you noticed the "sleeping" boys sneaking peeks at you, trying to hide their own grins.

Monday
10:45 am
My professors words were jumbled into incoherent mumbles, I bit my thumbnail relentlessly as my foot tapped the floor with anticipation. I had 15 minutes left of class before going in blind to my lunch session with Luke.
My eyes stared blankly ahead of me, every few moments glancing to the clock. The simple knowledge that Luke was present on campus turned my stomach. I had no recollection of what my professor had been speaking about, my mind had been swiped blank by the intimidating company of the blond close by.
I counted every second as the minutes passed, unconsciously ripping the skin from around my thumbnail with my teeth as I was growing more and more antsy in my seat. The classroom was filled with a soft hum of the air conditioner, accompanied with the occasional cough or sneeze from another student. I had no preparation for my meeting with Luke, as his demeanor and tone over text was difficult to read. I didn't know if this was going to be a regular, back to normal session, or something unexpected. My breath shook, I tried my best to calm my nerves as the class came to an end.
My professor offered Luke's tutoring to the class once more before dismissal, grabbing his own belongings for his lunch hour. I watched absentmindedly as students exited the classroom, my professor stopping at my seat.
"Luke seems to be running a bit late. You're free to go get yourself some lunch and come back," He began warmly, "Or you can wait here. Up to you." He smiled, giving my chair a light tap before making his way out of the classroom. My legs felt like jelly, I wasn't confident that I wouldn't tip right over if I stood up. I stayed glued in my seat, burning my eyes into the table in front of me awaiting Luke's arrival.
I bit my cheek, checking the time which was now 11:15. My anxieties began to turn to frustration, as I selfishly started to overthink he was late on purpose. I let out a heavy sigh, my tapping foot emitting a fast thumping sound. I knew that my frustration stemmed from the anxiety of suspense, but I stubbornly blamed it on his lack of time management. I swiftly whipped out my from my bag on the floor beside me, impulsively sending Luke an anxious text.
"Where are you? I'm waiting."
I sent the message with a huff, sliding my phone on the table. I leaned back in my chair with crossed arms, glaring at my phone as I sat silently in the empty room.
"Impatient?". I swung my head around abruptly as I heard the door creak open, a deep voice emerging from behind me. Luke entered the classroom leisurely, his face plastered with a smug smile and two coffees in hand.
"You're late." I muttered, turning back around in my chair with a straight face. I heard him chuckle from behind me, his large frame pulling up a chair beside mine. He set one iced coffee on the table in front of me, scooting it closer to my body. I glanced at him from the corner of my eye, he flashed me an apologetic smile.
"I could've been late with no coffee." He tilted his head. His playful demeanor uncontrollably making me crack a smile. I gave in, taking the coffee from Luke with a small giggle. I took a sip from the iced drink, Luke remembering my order perfectly. He let out a small sigh before speaking.
"I'm really sorry, Y/n." He spoke softly. I turned my head slightly to look at him, his eyes burning deeply into mine. "I should've explained myself better for you.". I looked down to my drink, toying with the straw as I took in his words.
"Yeah." I spoke quietly.
"You understand my dilemma, right?" He asked, moving his seat closer. "You know I'm not doing this to you 'cause I want to?". I glanced to him briefly before back down to my drink, his gaze was intimidating. I nodded slightly.
"It just sucks, Luke." I began, "You expect me to just come to tutoring all normal again? Like nothing?" I narrowed my eyes, turning my head to look at him. Luke sighed.
"I know. I'm sorry." He muttered, "You think it'll be easy for me to just be your tutor when I want every single part of you?" He urged. I looked away swiftly at words. "This isn't any easier for me than it is for you."
I felt his body move closer to mine, his knee brushing my outer thigh. His face was only inches from mine. We both could feel the tension in the air rising by the second, becoming desperate. I looked back up to him, his blue eyes looking into mine deeply. I wanted nothing more than for him to take me over completely. He placed a hand on my thigh gently as he spoke.
"You're all I want, Y/n." He spoke deeply. We were lost in each others gaze, our faces only inches apart. It felt as though there was a magnet pulling the two of us closer together, slowly.
Inch by inch, Luke inevitably connected our lips gently, his hand on my thigh tightening its grip. I shivered at the promiscuity of our kiss in the very accessible classroom. The kiss quickly got deeper, Luke moving his lips against mine passionately. He moved a hand up to the side of my face, our breathing slowly beginning to pick up. Luke shifted in his seat at the growing hard-on forming in his tight slacks, whimpering slightly into my mouth.
He pulled away quickly, looking at me with heavy breaths.
"We can't." He lazily shook his head, wiping his mouth with his thumb as he stood up from his seat swiftly. I stood up from mine after him, moving into him closer.
"Can't we?" I spoke softly as I looked up at him, just above a whisper while I trailed my hands down his chest, running my fingers alone his waistline. My hands shook and heart beat fast as I boldly chose my next actions, but the desperation over powered my rationality. Luke let out a shaky breath, looking to the unlocked door just a few feet away.
"Y/n..." He breathed deeply, watching my hands toy with his pants button and zipper.
"No one will be in here for another hour." I smiled, looking down at my hands. I swiftly undid the button on Luke's slacks, the zipper right after, before I dropped to my knees in front of him slowly.
"You're crazy. You're so fuckin' crazy." Luke repetitively rambled at a whisper, anxiously running his hands through his hair as he watched me in awe.
"Just be quiet." I giggled. I palmed his already hard member over his pants, emitting a groan from his lips before pulling his pants down just enough to reveal his shaft. I looked up at Luke through my eyelashes, meeting his eyes as I swiped my tongue under his tip once. He let out a heavy sigh, placing a hand on my head, stroking my hair. I opened my mouth wider, taking Luke inside my mouth fully. He brought the back of his hand up to his mouth, concealing a moan as he tossed his head back. His hand rested lazily on my head, gripping my hair slightly as I picked up a steady rhythm with my neck, taking Luke down my throat.
"Fuck, Y/n, you're so good." He whimpered, his mouth dropping to an "O". I brought a hand up, pumping and sucking Luke at the same time.
I watched him as I trembled above me, glancing to the door behind him every few seconds. Luke abruptly pulled himself out of my mouth, grabbing me from under my arms.
"Get up here." He growled. He swiftly lifted me from the ground, placing me on top of my desk facing him. Luke leaned in vigorously and connected our lips, bringing his hands down to my waistband and pulling my jeans down just to my knees. He effortlessly propped my feet up, leaving my knees against my chest and eager heat exposed. Both of us shook with adrenaline, trying to quickly get our deed done in the public classroom.
"Can you stay quiet for me, sweetheart?" He cooed, lining himself up with my folds. I wiggled my hips eagerly, his tip prodding against my hole. Wasting no time, Luke slipped himself inside of me, letting out a breath as my slick walls wrapped around him. Immediately, a loud squeal escaped my lips, making Luke's hand fly to my mouth to silence me. His other hand held my leg up underneath my thigh as he let out a chuckle.
"Quiet, doll. You don't wanna get caught, do you?" He spoke deeply, picking up his pace. I looked down to where Luke and I connected, my toes curled at the sigh of him finally inside of me. I let out another muffled whine into Luke's hands as he kept up his vigorous pounding. I quickly glanced up to the clock, then to the door behind Luke, still cautious of our surroundings in the open classroom. Luke noted my concerns, moving my face with his hand to look back at him.
"Don't worry about anyone else, doll. Focus on me." He spoke deeply, looking into my eyes as he made me focus solely on his member pumping in and out of me euphorically.
"You like being fucked where anyone can see?" Luke chuckled, moving in closer and connecting his forehead to mine, "You like being my slut, doll?". I nodded frantically, my whimpers continued to be muffled my Luke's hands.
"Fuck, doll, you're so tight around my cock." He groaned, watching himself pumping into me vigorously.
Luke quickly glanced to the clock, noting we had 10 minutes until the next class would begin to arrive.
"How fast can you cum for me, baby?" He cooed, bringing a hand up to my sensitive bud, rubbing fast circles into my clit. I dug my teeth into Luke's hands, looking up at him. My walls began to clench around his member, my climax rising quickly.
"That's a good girl. C'mon, doll, cum for me." He growled, keeping a steady rhythm with his thumb and pounding. I tossed my head back, shaking under Luke as I released about his throbbing member. My climax bringing him to his on my thigh quickly after.
With no time for catching a breath, Luke quickly retreated any tissue box he could find and cleaned his mess from my leg, assisting me in standing up and putting my pants back on. We silently slumped back into our chairs, breathing heavy as we collected our thoughts. Beads of sweat collected at Luke's forehead, his blond curls sticking to his skin. My hair laid messy down my back.
"That's not what I meant by we'll talk on Monday." Luke half joked, giving me a side eye. Giving us no time to debrief, the clock ticking to 12:15 and my clueless professor bursting through the door made us quickly adjust ourselves in our seats, trying to act nonchalant.
"Afternoon, Luke." He greeted with a smile, making his way to his desk. Luke smiled with a nod, his ability to act like he wasn't jack hammering me into the table just a couple minutes ago bewildered me. "You're real sweaty. Good session?". My professor raised his eyebrows, still completely clueless. Luke glanced to me briefly with wide eyes, then back to the professor.
"Definitely. Getting better every session." He smiled smugly, turning to look at me. My professors eyes flashed to me, my eyes now meeting his. I smiled with a nod at confirmation.
"That's right." I spoke. My professor nodded, placing his books onto his desk enthusiastically.
"That's great to hear, Y/n.". Luke and I shared a glance, unsure of our next move as I had a class I was now late to. Luke stood up with an uneasy sigh, meeting my eyes once more before turning to the door.
"Uhm. I'll see you tomorrow.". He gave me a look as if to say something which was unsaid. I watched as he exited the room, left to my own devices until I heard from him next, which was too left unknown.

Heyy! Can you make one where Luke is sick and the reader takes care of him. And Luke is just so cute and clingy. Make it fluffy 🫶🏻
Chicken Soup
Tumblr media
Summary: In which the best cure for Luke's tummy bug is homemade chicken noodle soup<3
Pairing: Luke x feminine reader
Warnings: Vomit, mentions of being sick
Word Count: 2.1k
A/N: I absolutely loveeeee requests like these. Domestic fluff/comfort Luke is so<3
“Lu, baby,” You pouted sadly, rubbing his back as he hunched over the toilet, continuing to throw up. “You poor thing. You’re okay.”
It had been an exhausting night, and it was unfortunately not due to having some fun. Luke had come home from the studio earlier in the evening complaining of a stomach ache and things had only spiraled from there. He’d been on and off puking for the past six hours, unable to get any rest because every time he was almost asleep, he would feel nauseous again.
You rubbed his broad back and shoulders, feeling his muscles tense under your hand as he gagged. Planting a soft kiss to his sweaty neck, you held his curls out of his face as he leaned back into you, panting and shaking. It had been a whole lot of dry heaving for the past five minutes, but nothing would come up.
“Feeling any better?” You asked, a pout on your face as Luke leaned his head against your chest, whimpering and moaning.
“Not really,” he mumbled sleepily, wrapping his arms around his sick tummy. “Stomach hurts.”
“I know sweetie, I know,” You ran a hand along his side in a comforting way as the blond closed his eyes. He was so sleepy; all he wanted was for you to cuddle him in bed and for himself to actually be able to get some rest. “Wanna go back to bed, sweet boy?”
“No.” he pouted firmly.
“Baby,” You cooed, kissing his forehead. “Your tummy’s empty. You need to rest.”
“Just feel so poorly.” Luke hummed, his voice scratchy from the sickness.
“Want me to put a bucket by your side?” You asked softly.
You knew why Luke didn’t want to go back to the bedroom; sprinting to the bathroom every time you felt slightly nauseated was awful, but at the same time you didn’t want him to have to sleep on the hard, cold tile of the bathroom. He seemed to understand your reasoning, but still looked at you, blue eyes filled with tears.
“My tummy just feels yucky.” he sniffled.
Eventually, you persuaded him back into bed with the promise of lots and lots of cuddles. Despite his hoodie and flannel pajama pants, your poor husband was still shivering with fever. You tucked him in with his favorite, fuzzy blanket, kissing his nose.
“‘M gonna go get you some water and a bucket, ‘kay?” You told him.
“Don’t leave,” Luke whispered softly, grabbing your wrist. “Please?”
“Honey,” You pouted, running your hand through his tangly curls. “You need some water, love. Don’t want you to get dehydrated.”
Luke reluctantly agreed, welling up with tears on his lash line as you left the room. He couldn’t help it; fevers made him emotional, which in turn made him clingy and cuddly. The poor boy practically laid himself across your pillow, breathing in your scent while he waited for you to come back. As soon as you returned to the room and set the bucket on his nightstand, Luke was patting the bed for you to come lay down.
“Let’s have some water, bub, and then we’ll sleep all you want.” You smiled, handing him his water bottle.
The blond took a few small sips of water, placing the bottle back on the nightstand and snuggling into the blankets while you climbed into bed. As soon as you were under the covers, Luke was attaching to your side like a (adorable) leech. The blond buried his nose in your neck, humming happily. He was more comfortable now that he was snuggled up with you and easily closed his eyes.
You reached over and rubbed shapes on his achy belly as Luke’s breathing slowed, happy to provide him with any sort of comfort. Luke felt much more relaxed and comfortable now, enjoying the feeling of skin-to-skin contact when he felt you sneak your hand under his hoodie and resume rubbing his tummy.
“Thank you.” he whispered sleepily.
You kissed his curls gently, speaking softly so as not to disturb him. “I’m gonna go to the store in the morning and get you some medicine.”
You’d wanted to give Luke medicine earlier in the evening, but much to your and his demise, you’d run out of Pepto-Bismol. The blond grunted at the thought of medicine, but quickly formed a sleepy sentence.
“Can you make me chicken soup?” he asked quietly.
You giggled, cuddling closer to Luke’s fevered body. “Sure.”
“Mum used to make chicken soup whenever I had a tummy bug.” Luke explained, almost half asleep as a yawn escaped him.
“I can believe it. Go to sleep, Lu. You need rest, love.” You pressed one last kiss to Luke’s head and sure enough your husband fell asleep quite quickly, exhausted from his rough night.
You quietly shut the front door behind you, stepping in the house. You wanted to call out for Luke, but part of you had a hunch he was asleep. You wandered into the kitchen, glancing into the living room. Sure enough, Luke was huddled up on the couch with Petunia, snoring softly. The afternoon sunlight haloed his curls as the blankets moved up and down with his breath, making him look simply adorable. You smiled and snapped a quick picture, moving into the kitchen to unload your grocery bags.
You’d gotten chicken soup ingredients, medicine, Gatorade, and crackers; everything you would need to take care of a sick Luke. You put everything else aside, beginning to chop up the vegetables for Luke’s soup. Just as you were putting everything in the pot to simmer, you felt a strong pair of arms wrap around you from behind.
“Hi.” Luke whispered, throat scratchy.
“Hey baby,” You hummed, turning around to look at him. “Have a good nap?”
The blond nodded, fisting his eyes as a pout formed on his lips. “Threw up again while you were gone.” he mumbled.
“Poor baby,” You cooed, running your thumb across his cheek. “I got you some medicine and Gatorade if you wanna try that?” You offered.
Luke whined, shoving his face into your neck as he breathed in your scent. His royal blue hoodie practically engulfed you as he wrapped you in a bear hug. “Okay. I missed you.”
“I missed you too, sweetheart. I’m sorry I wasn’t here while you were being sick.” You said sadly.
“‘S okay. I had nurse Petunia.” he giggled softly.
You giggled yourself, kissing his fevered lips softly. Luke immediately pulled back, looking at you like you had three heads.
“Don’t do that!” he protested. “You’ll get sick.”
“I don’t care,” You said with a lopsided smile. “I know you’ll take care of me when I do.”
Luke rolled his eyes, but couldn’t hide the grin. He stayed attached to you, almost like a sloth or a koala, while you stirred the soup and poured the noodles in to cook until you patted his bum softly.
“Go lay down, bub. I’ll bring everything to you.” You stood on your tiptoes and kissed his cheek.
“Okayyyyy.” Luke pressed a kiss to your head, before patting into the living room and cuddling up in his blanket nest.
Once the soup was done, you ladled it into Luke’s favorite bowl with cats on it and placed it on a little tray, along with a little cup of blue Gatorade and a medicine cup of Pepto-Bismol. A wonderful sickness spread if you did say so yourself. You carried the tray carefully to the living room, smiling as you saw Luke cuddled up  on the couch with Petunia, her head on his tummy as he stroked her fur while watching something on Netflix.
“Personal heating pad?” You chuckled, gesturing to your pup.
“Mhm,” Luke hummed sleepily. “I love her.”
“Awww babe, I know you do,” You kissed Luke’s forehead, sneakily checking for a fever. “Do you wanna try the medicine or the soup first?”
“Soup. While it’s hot.” Your husband said.
“Okay honey,” You handed Luke the bowl gently. “Careful, it’s hot.”
Luke slowly sipped the broth, humming happily. “Yum. Better than my mum’s,” he giggled. “Don’t tell her I said that.”
“I won’t mess with Liz, don’t worry,” You giggled, sitting down and sipping on your own soup. “Make sure to take your medicine, hun.”
Luke nodded, grabbing the small cup and taking the pink, viscous liquid like a shot. He washed it down with the Gatorade, shuddering slightly. “Yuck.”
“I know it’s not great, but hopefully it’ll make you feel better.” You hummed.
The blond took a few more bites of soup, before placing the bowl on the coffee table. “‘M full.” he mumbled, moving to lay his head in your lap.
“That’s okay, babe,” You told him, running a hand through your curls. “You don’t have to eat all of it.”
All was quiet for a while with only the sounds of Petunia snoring and the television filling the living room. You honestly thought Luke had fallen asleep until you heard a hiccup escape him. The blond sat quickly, breathing deeply through his nose.
“You okay, honey?” You asked, eyeing him up and down.
“No. Gonna throw up again.” he rushed out, lips quivering as he tried to untangle himself from the blankets.
Luck did not appear to be on Luke’s side, because by the time he had gotten out from under Petunia and the blankets, it was just too late. Your poor boy gagged harshly, slapping a hand over his mouth to no avail. The vomit seeped through his fingers, running down his hoodie and puddling on the carpet of the rug. Too sick to do anything else, Luke continued to throw up the medicine and soup he’d just eaten.
“‘M sorry,” Luke sniffled, starting to cry as he realized what he’d done. “Didn’t mean to.” he sobbed.
“Bubba, no one’s mad,” You rubbed his back softly. “Let’s get you in the shower and I’ll clean up here, ‘kay?”
“I can do it.” Luke insisted, looking over at you sadly.
“Sweetheart, it’ll be okay,” You insisted, leading him to the bathroom and helping him sit down on the closed toilet. “I’m not mad.”
Luke nodded as you wiped off his hand and started the shower, helping him strip out of his soiled pajamas and step under the running water. He leaned against the tile wall, breathing deeply with a hand on his belly as it grumbled under his hand.
“All set?” You asked him.
Your husband nodded quietly, and you kissed his cheek once before heading into the living room to clean up the mess. Luckily, Luke hadn’t had much to throw up, having an empty stomach and just sipping the broth, so you easily cleaned the spot and remade the couch for him, taking the dirty dishes to the kitchen. By the time you had finished, Luke was padding out of your master suite in clean pajamas, wet hair brushed.
“Hey bub,” You hummed as he laid down, kissing his forehead. “I think the cool shower helped your fever.”
Luke nodded softly, pulling the blanket up to his chin. “Thank you. For everything,” he said as you laid down behind him, wrapping him into the little spoon position. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“In sickness and in health, remember?” You said with a gentle smile, showing him your wedding ring. “I love you.”
The blond giggled, a blush dotting his pale cheeks. “I love you too. Can you rub my tummy again?” he asked with a great yawn.
“Does it still hurt?” You asked sadly, but immediately laying your hand across his slightly bloated belly.
“A little bit. Feel better since I threw up. Mostly just feels nice.” he admitted.
“I love you, Lu.” You whispered as he fell asleep, happily cuddled up with you and Petunia.
Luke recovered from his tummy bug fairly quickly, attributing his speedy recovery to you taking such good care of him. Before either of you knew it, he was back in the studio working on the upcoming album and happy as ever.
His good mood only lasted a little while, though, as he dropped his bags at the front door, calling into the house his usual “I’m home!”. It remained silent in the house; he didn’t even hear the sound of Petunia’s nails clicking. He wandered into the living room, seeing you cuddled up with Petunia.
“Y/N? Are you feeling okay?” he asked softly, rubbing your cheek with the pad of his thumb.
“Do we have leftover soup?” You asked, a pout on your lips.
Luke chuckled, kissing your forehead. “This is why we don’t kiss people with stomach bugs, baby. But yes, I’ll go heat some up now.”
In the end, you didn’t escape Luke’s bug, but he was so caring and compassionate with you that you couldn’t have asked for a better sick experience.

one of the boys (you can choose which one!!) having corruption kink and teaching y/n some stuff? I think it would be so hot him teaching her how to touch herself cause she’s never done it before and in the end just being “good but not as great as you make it feel”.
so basically innocent!yn + corruption kink if you could and isn’t weird for u to write.
Corruption
Requested: Yes you little freak, I love it
Word Count: ~2,100
Smut:  praise kink!!!!!!! Corruption, masturbation, teaching? Etc. DIRTY!
We all know Ashton has to be the kinkiest one out of the group
“Truth or dare, what are we back in high school?” Luke said, laughing off Michael’s suggestion. Michael rolled his eyes but leaned back against the couch. You were sitting next to him, Calum, Luke and their significant others on the opposite side of the coffee table. Ashton was off in the kitchen, gathering snacks for the group. It was a weekly occurrence that you all got together, something beneficial for all of you involved.
“We all know everything about one another anyway.” Calum said, and Luke chuckled.
“Well, nearly everything. We still don’t fully know you,” Calum’s fiance pointed out, her gaze on yours and everyone else followed.
“You guys know a lot about me,” You said, laughing a bit awkwardly but Michael shook his head.
“Mmm, not all of it. We don’t know the juicy details of yours and Ashton’s sexual encounters.” He said, wiggling his eyebrows. The girls around the table scoffed, but the boys laughed slightly.
“Who’s in charge in the bedroom? Is it you?” Luke’s wife asked, and you laughed again as you shook your head. You weren’t really sure how to answer that. You’ve had a lot of fun with Ashton, but you’ve always felt as if there could have been something else, if there could have been more.
“It’s equal in the bedroom,” You said, taking a sip of your drink to give you time to think of an answer, “But of course, it’s more so Ashton.”
“Well obviously, we all know that Ashton is super fucking kinky, it’s only a matter of time before he truly corrupts you,” Calum said, lifting his beer up in a cheers motion and you felt the blush creep onto your cheeks.
“He’s probably already done it, hasn’t he?” Michael prodded, nudging his knee with yours and you laughed, hoping your embarrassment wasn’t showing itself.
“What are you going on about me corrupting my girlfriend?” Ashton asked, bringing a tray of food into the living room. He had a smile on his face but a pointed look in his eyes.
You smiled up at him, taking his hand as he sat on the other side of you, “Michael, you’re not being a dick again are you?”
Michael chuckled as he shook his head, and Ashton leaned his head down against yours. He turned slightly and kissed your hair, and you smiled as the topic drifted off to a different conversation.
“Tell me about it later,” Ashton murmured into your hair and you nodded. You knew all the jokes of Ashton being the kinkiest one, but he hadn’t shown that side to you. You weren’t a virgin, but you also weren’t as experienced as he was, and now that thought was a slight insecurity. You felt yourself becoming distant from the conversation, which Ashton so graciously covered for you as you thought more about what the boys had said.
Ashton hadn’t corrupted you at all, nor has he let you feel any shame in it whatsoever. But you wanted more from him, you just weren’t sure how to get it.
* * *
“Baby girl, why are you acting like this? Is it because of the conversation that I walked in on earlier?” Ashton asked, moving to join you on the bed as he knelt beside you.
“I'm not acting like anything.” You insisted, but you knew that was a lie. The conversation had been replaying over in your head, again and again, until the two of you had gotten to this moment. You weren't sure why the conversation was impacting you so much. I'm at the boys a joke around about summer things in the past, but there was a part of your deep down that wondered if Ashton had been holding out on you.
“Okay fine, I am. I’m sorry,” You said, laughing slightly as he looked at you.
“Don’t be sorry, just talk to me about what you’re feeling.” He said, an authentic smile on his face as he leaned down closer to you. He pressed his lips against yours, a nice gentle kiss but pulled back.
You leaned in again for a kiss, deepening it and racking your brain on how to be more…aggressive. You bit down on his lip but winced as you pulled away.
“Princess, what was that?”
“The boys are talking earlier at Luke's that you're obviously the very kinky one and that I am not as experienced by your means. I don't know, it's just been kind of stuck in my head since we left.”
“Can you explain a little bit more?” He asked, nodding as he cupped your cheek, his thumb grazing the skin.
“I want you to corrupt me.”
He chuckled as he dropped his hand but stopped when he realized you were serious.
“Baby, what do you mean?” He asked and you sighed as you thought more about it.
“I don't know, I just want you to teach me more. I'm not saying that I am completely innocent, but I know there's more that you wanna explore but you’ve been holding back on me?” You suggested.
“Is this coming only from the conversation or is this something you’ve been thinking about for a while?”
“I guess I’ve been thinking about it for a while,” You said sheepishly. His brow furrowed at your response, and he pushed off the bed, “Baby wait, I’m not -”
He cut you off with his hand raised and you quickly shut your mouth.
“I’m not mad. But we’re going to have some fun now, since you want to learn so badly. You want to be my little slut, is that what you want?” He asked, his voice hard but his eyes still soft.
You felt the blush creep back into your cheeks but nodded.
“Good girl. Now I want you to get up, strip, and then sit with your back up against the headboard.” He commanded. You were quick to follow his words, pushing off the bed yourself and climbing out of your pajamas. You shivered slightly as the air, chilled by the AC unit, now was blowing against your skin. You followed his instructions and climbed back onto the bed, your back now against the headboard.
He stripped out of his boxers and sat on the edge of the bed, by your feet and gripped his own cock. You licked your lips in anticipation, now so excited to hear his next words.
“Spread your legs Princess,” He murmured, his voice low and his eyes dark. You slowly spread your legs, feeling self conscious but also empowered and how hungry he now looked.
“I’m going to tell you what to do, and I want you to do exactly what I say. My mouth is about to be very vulgar, can you handle that?”
You nodded, but his gaze caught your attention.
“Verbal confirmation. Everything will revolve around your ability to answer me, is that understood?”
“Yes Ashton,” You whispered, and he nodded.
“Good girl,” He praised, and you bit down on your lip again at the praise. Did you have a praise kink? “Now, I want you to take your right hand and bring it down to that sweet pussy of yours.”
You followed his instructions, your hand grazing down your front to your core and looked up at him, waiting for the next cue.
“I want your fingers to tease your slit, but no penetration yet. Up and down, collect some of those juices I see running already.” He said. You followed his instructions, your two fingers grazing your lips. Your body jolted at the contact, but you kept your gaze on Ashton. His hand was moving ever so slightly, teasing himself and you at the same time.
“The same rhythm I’m stroking my cock, I want you to start fucking yourself with your fingers.” He muttered.
“Yes Ashton,” You breathed out. Your fingers, already slick from stroking yourself, pushed inside of you. You let out a slight gasp at the feeling, craving it to be his cock instead but you didn’t voice that - not yet.
“Good girl. Tell me how that’s making you feel?” He murmured. He started to stroke his cock just a bit quicker now and you matched his pace.
“It feels so fucking good Ash,” You moaned out. He chuckled as he nodded, licking his lips as he watched your fingers move.
“God, already so fucking wet and you’re only fucking yourself. You’re a fucking vision right now,” He breathed out, his eyes closing for a second as he increased his pace once again, “Insert another finger inside of you and start rubbing your clit with your other hand. Fast too, don’t hold back on it.”
You followed his instructions once again, adding in your ring finger inside of you as you brought your left hand to your clit. You moaned as you made contact with yourself, your clit being a sensitive spot for you. You started out rubbing slow circles, but as you heard him tsk, you sped up.
“Tell me again how you're feeling right now, baby girl.” He said, but you barely heard him over the sound of your own moans. You couldn't help it, the way that they fell from your lips at the situation. Ashton looked so hot sitting at the edge of the bed and stroking himself while fucking yourself with your fingers.
“I feel so fucking good Ashton. I think I’m going to cum soon.”
“Good. Keep going, but don’t you dare cum without my permission.” He said, and you nodded.
“Ah, words Princess, or I’ll have to punish you.” He snapped.
“Yes Ashton, I won’t cum unless you tell me to,” You breathed out, your eyes peeking up at his and seeing him satisfied. He had a smug look on his face, his hand still stroking at a steady rhythm and you were starting to struggle to keep up. You felt your thighs begin to shake, but you kept your gaze on Ashton as you continued fucking yourself.
“Ash,” Your voice was desperate, but he chuckled. You positioned yourself sitting up more, your fingers still fucking yourself as your other hand was on your clit, and you moaned out as your body began to shake.
“Ash, please,” You begged. He stopped stroking and moved closer, giving you a singular nod.
“Cum for me princess,” He said, and your abs and thighs started to burn with how much you were restraining yourself. You let everything go, your orgasm crashing into you as you came on your own fingers. You stilled, your body now exhausted and Ashton went back to stroking himself.
“Let me taste you,” He murmured, and you brought your hand up to his lips. He sucked and moaned with your three fingers in his mouth, before releasing them as he was about to cum himself. He stilled, his cock twitching as he came and you enjoyed watching him become undone.
“I’m going to clean up real quick, then we’ll chat.” He murmured, pressing a kiss on your lips and you hummed quietly. He walked into the bathroom, and you pushed up on your elbows as you watched him grab a washcloth and run it under warm water before returning to you. You moaned as his fingers brushed against your core, feeling extremely sensitive from what had just happened.
“Tell me baby girl, what do you think?” He murmured, pressing a kiss against your neck and trailed them down your throat.
“I definitely enjoyed that,” You whispered. He chuckled as he nodded.
“You definitely did. Did you like fucking yourself while I watched?” He asked, sliding down slightly to drop the rag in the laundry basket before he turned back to face you. This was your favorite version of Ashton, his cheeks flushed and his face glowing in the post orgasm haze.
“I’d much rather have you inside of me instead,” You breathed out and he chuckled as he crawled up the bed, closer to you. He met your lips with his, pushing far more forcefully than earlier and you smiled into the kiss. He pulled back, his hand gripping the side of your hip as he lifted himself up.
“You’re going to regret those words Princess,”

(9/16) prompt: vision — 1,052 words (fame au pt.3; famous boyfriends pre-their first premiere together - pt.1, pt.2, pt.4, pt.5) @jegulus-microfic
Regulus is sure that Dorcas is pacing impatiently down in his building’s lobby while he finishes examining his reflection. She’s an ‘on time is late and early is on time’ sort of manager and Regulus tests that consistently. Especially since he and James started seeing each other, even more since they’ve gone public.
It’s their first premiere together, two months of their relationship being officially confirmed for the masses under their belt. Even Regulus is sometimes stunted by it still —the outpour of both shock and support that’s come from finally confirming that James is his boyfriend. The Marauders’ tour has been over for months, Regulus wrapped filming his latest project about a week and a half ago. Now, outside of their private time for just the two of them, it’s all various Hollywood events he’s invited to. Except it’s different now, because he gets to have James at his side walking carpets and taking photos.
He adjusts the collar of the white suit jacket his stylist picked out for him. They’ve forgone a shirt underneath and the jacket dips low down his bare chest when it’s left partially open. It leaves the diamond encrusted choker of pieces made to look like bones wrapped around his throat all the more apparent. The styling team had left a little while ago, giving him and James a brief bit of privacy before needing to leave.
Of course, most of that time thus far has been spent looking in a mirror, making sure he likes how he looks. He’s allowed to be a little vain, it’s practically in his job description. Regulus fluffs up the front of messily styled black curls before finally exiting the penthouse bathroom into the adjoined bedroom.
“Ready?” He asks.
James sits waiting for him at the foot of the bed in an all black crushed velvet suit; a picturesque opposite to the all white of Regulus’ ensemble. There’s a deep burgundy tie undone around his neck, left that way on purpose. A new pair of glasses were offered to him for the night, the squared-off frames the same shade of his silk tie, and they bring out the swirl of warm colors in James’ hazel eyes when he looks up from his phone.
Immediately upon his gaze landing on Regulus, James groans dramatically, like he’s in physical pain. He pinches his eyes shut tightly beneath the furrow of his brow, head slumping backward heavily on his neck.
“God, we have to break up right now. I can’t deal with you looking like this anymore.”
Regulus snorts, a smirk twitching at his lips. “Feels a bit dramatic.”
“I’ll write a song about the split and everything. It’ll be so clever, everyone will know it’s about you without trying. I’ll call it ‘Heartache On the Big Screen.’” James sweeps his hand in the air in example before he looks at him with a faint grin, brows lifted. “Are you seeing the vision? Because I’m seeing the vision.”
“Mm, little cheesy, if you ask me,” Regulus hums, moving nearer to stand in front of him. James’ knees part automatically to make room for him there, hands settling at Regulus’ hips when Regulus tucks a hand beneath his chin to tilt his head backwards. “You’re already thinking up lyrics, aren’t you?”
“Oh, absolutely.” James nods, tilts his head down to kiss at the back of Regulus’ hand in response to the soft laugh he lets out. “How do you feel about ‘a tragic story, starring you and me’ for part of the chorus?”
“I hate you,” Regulus laughs further.
“Just adding to my heartbreak, love, you’re really doing me a favor here.”
“You make it so hard to date you.” It’s the world’s biggest fucking lie and Regulus knows it.
James’ eyes flash triumphantly like he knows it, too. “‘Started out like in the movies, but it ended like a bad dream.’ Sounds good, doesn’t it?”
“You’re so annoying.”
“Mhm, keep it coming.”
Rolling his eyes fondly, Regulus dips down to press a lingering kiss to his lips. James hums contently into it and Regulus can feel his unrelenting smile right against his own mouth. Both of James’ hands glide up beneath the back of his suit jacket, settling on the warm skin at his lower back.
It’s enough for Regulus to inch back, their lips still brushing as he murmurs, “Don’t fuck up this outfit, baby.”
“I’ll save that for later.” James winks at him.
With a huff of a laugh, Regulus pushes against his shoulders to put a little distance between them. He takes a small step back but holds out one hand expectantly for his boyfriend.
“Car’s waiting downstairs, Dorcas said. We should get to the photo op’s before you make up anymore fake songs.”
“Fake songs,” James scoffs playfully, taking his hand and standing up. “I’m writing it, it’s so real.”
“No, it’s not.”
“Just you wait, Reg. It’s going to be a fan favorite.”
“You’re lucky I like you so much.”
James chuckles behind him as they get to the front door, crowds into Regulus’ back as he presses the needed buttons for the security system. James loops his arms around his waist from behind and hugs around him. A couple kisses at the side of his neck. Another hum right beside his ear that Regulus can hear the smile present in.
Regulus resists the instinctive urge to tilt back into him, open himself up fully to the physical attention. He can’t afford to go into this premiere looking rumpled or someone (Dorcas) really might kill him.
“I am lucky, you know,” James says softly; so sweet, so full of an adoration that nine months ago might have had Regulus bolting away in seconds.
Instead, now, Regulus turns his head to look at James sideways, affection bright in his own shining eyes. He kisses once at the line of James’ jaw, a second time at his cheek, a third at the corner of his mouth. It’s soft and it’s tender —an isolated moment of knowing that this is real and they’re finally letting themselves have it, have each other.
Then, Regulus jokingly ruins it when he says, “Yeah, you really are.”
James only laughs loudly as he’s tugged by the hand out of the apartment and toward the elevator.

12 Days of Holidays: Day 5
Tumblr media
Calum HoodXFemale Reader
Warnings: pure fluff, winter weather, mentions of food, soft touches, rambling moments, first kisses
“What are you doing for New Year’s?” Calum questioned. His back was pressed up against one of the bookcases. A crunch followed right after his words and you looked over to see him munching on potato chips, a large bag that was usually shared with a family.
“Uh as far as I know, to my dad’s for a barbeque in the afternoon and that’s about it,” you said, placing one last book on the shelf and wheeling your cart to another section. Calum was hot on your heels, stuffing another chip into his mouth and once again taking a spot on the edge of a bookcase. “What are you doing?” you asked, face frowning at how chaotic the shelf looked. You sighed in annoyance as you grabbed the handful of books that didn’t belong in the section.
“I was invited to some party downtown, but. . .I thought maybe you and I could meet up at Cane’s Park and watch the firework show.” There was a tinge of hope in Calum’s voice and you understood where it was stemming from. It had been a week since your official first date with him. The two of you had been trying to plan for a second date, but since the holiday traffic was picking up neither of your schedules would align. Right now Calum was spending his lunch with you while you worked to get the bookstore ready for an author meet and greet. There was a definite shift in your dynamic now that your feelings were out in the open. For starters, Calum wasn’t hesitant about touching you more. He’d give you forehead kisses, squeeze your hip whenever he passed behind you, the hugs you two shared were longer too.
“You want to spend New Year’s together?” you asked. The dating part only just started, but you had practically been spending most of your days with him before the first date. Even went on a skiing trip with him and his friends, so you weren’t sure why Calum asking you to spend New Year’s Eve with him made you nervous.
“Yeah. Is that weird?” Calum thought for a moment. “Like I know we just started dating, but I thought it’d be a good second date. I could get some blankets, and snacks. We don’t even have to go all the way inside the park, we can just chill in the back of my truck and watch the fireworks from there.” He was starting to ramble.
“Calum-”
“Or we can wait until after the new year for our second date,” he continued on.
“Cal!” the volume of your voice raised higher, but he was too wrapped in his rambling to hear. You rolled your eyes, setting the books down and grabbing Calum by his cheeks to pull him in for a kiss to shut him up. It took Calum a second to realize that your lips were on his, frozen in his spot for a second before kissing you back. The hand that was holding up his bag of chips lowered. After a few seconds you pulled away.
“Y-You kissed me?” he blurted seemingly perplexed.
“I did,” you laughed, “I had to shut you up somehow.”
“That was our first kiss,” Calum said this time. You chuckled again and went back to reshelving.
“It was,” you replied, finally turning to face him. Calum still seemed a bit shell-shocked, his fingers going up to touch his lips where yours were just pressed. Calum wanted to kiss you again, and he glanced over to see you had been watching him. His cheeks felt heated at being caught and he cleared his throat.
“Can I kiss you again?” Calum timidly asked, taking a step closer to you. You smirked at his words, lifting on your tippy toes to reach his height again. Calum smiled down at you, his hand grabbing at your waist this time to pull you closer even more. His head dipped, but you weaved your head so that your lips were near his ear.
“You can get another kiss on New Year’s Eve,” you whispered, pulling away from him and receiving a groan in return. Calum licked his lips and he gave you a playful glare in return. He wasn’t opposed to waiting another day or so, but he had wished the kiss you just had lasted longer for him to at least think about it until you kissed again.
“Fine, New Year’s. It's a date," Calum smiled, pulling you into a hug and kissing the top of your head.

You don't go to parties anymore
Modern Eddie Munson x ex reader
Summary: Eddie keeps looking for you in his parties
Word count: 1.9k
Warning: angst, mentions of drugs, drunk eddie, curse words, small reference to smut (if you squint)
a/n: this was inspired by the song stuck in my head, “you don't go to parties” by 5sos and obviously i had to do something about it lol. Reblog and comments are appreciated <3 also comment if you want to be tagged in eddie one shots in future. Mwah
Tumblr media
Another Friday night, another party. Like a routine, like a spiral. Eddie Munson, big doe eyes were hidden by the bags under his eyes. Hair messed up like he fought a monster. And his well known smile, that everybody was attracted to like a moth to light, was gone with the wind, gone with you.
He doesn't remember when was the last time he slept through the night. He stays up, drinking, distracting him with different things, or parties on friday nights.
Why did he keep throwing these parties every week? He wasn’t sure. But his eyes keep searching for that familiar pair of eyes, those pretty eyes, your eyes.
It was 5 am Saturday morning, and Eddie's apartment was crowded with every person he knew, while he laid on the sofa, drunk. Sweaty bodies are dancing, people are still drinking in the corner while some are passed out on the floor in front of him.
He eyes them carefully, everyone, there’s Nancy and Robin talking about something, Steve is drunk dancing with this blonde girl he can’t remember the name of.
It's 5:00 a.m. clinging to my couch
And everyone I ever knew is standing in my house
Oh, I wonder who I'm looking for
'Cause you don't go to parties anymore
“Eddie! It was my turn,” you whined as you reached out, snatching the joint from his lips. He chuckled as he watched you bring it to your lips, taking a deep breath. To say he adored you was an understatement.
You both lied, on your backs, in his bed, taking turns smoking the joint. It was midnight and you had snuck out of your house to jump in Eddie’s car. Now you both were here, spread out on Eddie's bed, smoke surrounding you.
He turned to face you and draped his arm lazily around you pulling you flush against him,
“You’ve had enough, baby,” he whispers, gently taking the joint from your fingers and slightly getting up to smash the butt of the cigarette in the ashtray.
“I can handle, eds” your voice was dreamy, low and distant. Your mind was in higher clouds, the ceiling was your window to the galaxy as you watched the shooting stars.
He hummed, pressing his lips to your jaw. Eyes droopy, you both faced the ceiling, sides pressed to each other, hallucinating a whole new world until you passed out.
I still think about the times we were heavy
Racehorse tripping on the dirt that you got on me
Vultures spinning up above for what's left of me
We go stupid every night, what a tragedy
Eddie’s mind started to darken with each passing minute, as every memory of you haunted his brain. He felt a pang in his heart, begging and praying to see you one more time. Just one more time.
He looked at every corner of his house where he fucked you relentlessly, he looked at the balcony where you stood up all night to watch the sunrise  together,
His lips started to tremble at the surge of memories, each one hitting him close to home. His mind was foggy, he was losing it. Like he always did everytime he let his mind wander to you, always back to you.
I'm still here in the darkness
Back where we started
You make me a heartless monster
I'm caught up in distractions
Fatal attractions
I'm starting to come undone
A part of him wanted to kick everyone out, he was tired, the voices in his mind too loud. He glanced, once again, at the bodies, hoping that you were there, hoping he overlooked your figure the first time.
And now it's 5:00 a.m. clinging to my couch
And everyone I ever knew is standing in my house
Oh, I wonder who I'm looking for
'Cause you don't go to parties anymore
His eyes zeroed at the girl, whose back resembles yours. He stood up abruptly, seeing stars immediately, he shook his head to focus. Stumbling, he made his way to her. A bottle of wine clutched in his hand tightly.
He tapped her shoulder,
I'll talk to y/n. I’ll make it okay, we’ll be fine, this is it. I’m sorry y/n, give me one more chance, give us one more chance.
She turned around, and his breath hitched in his throat at the sight of a random person. She wasn’t you. Of course you wouldn’t be here
He nodded and smiled, or tried to, before he raised his bottle to her. She politely shook her head ‘no’.
A string of curses left his mouth as he shifted his weight and leaned on the wall on the side. The girl immediately shifted her attention from her friends to him.
“Hey, are you doing well?” she asked, obviously interested
“Hmm” he nodded, bring the mouth of the bottle to his lips, taking a swig
“You know i, uh, recently broke up with the most beautiful girl ever,” he slurred
She looked taken aback, she didn’t expect this. Anything but this.
“We, uh, were together for 5 years,” his pitch went high for the last part that he uttered
“I thought you were her, but you can never be her” he chuckled, shaking his head, gulping the wine.
“Excuse me?” she was furious,
“Yeah… y/n…y/n was the best part of my life” his bloodshot eyes were distant as if mentally he’s still in the memory
“She used to make me laugh on my worst days and-” his words fell short as he saw the woman had gone away.
He shook his head, he really was losing it
I got the last five years running out my mouth
Always stay too late, I should kick me out
Oh, I wonder who I'm looking for
'Cause you don't go to parties anymore
“Watch your words, Munson” you threatened, your voice shook despite the efforts of keeping it strong
“I’m fucking done, y/n, i can’t do this, you want too much” his voice raised slightly
“Too much? Asking for your fucking time is ‘too much’? You elevated your pitch to match his
Another day, another argument, like a routine, like a spiral. y/n’s  big pretty eyes with tears swimming at the edge, dangerously close to falling.
“I think it's time to put an end to this relationship,” eddie stated, devoid of any emotion
And there came all your tears, pouring on your cheeks as the words rang in your ears.
You wanted to reach out to him, hold him, tell him you’ll make it through together, that this is just a rough patch.
But you stood there still as you watched him walk out the door.
-
He covered his ears with his hands as he headed for the balcony, running away from the bodies, from the loud music, from himself. His own last words to you haunting his mind, he wanted to scream to silence everything.
He spotted Argyle and Jonathan being only physically here, their minds wandered off when they sniffed the powder. He walked up to them, seating himself beside them, reaching for the pills and crushing them on the table.
Lost my limit 'cause I'm dumb and I'm passionate
Took my foot off of the break, it's not an accident
All my friends are up on Mars, we've been traveling
Another lonely night
“In time we’ll build a home for two” Eddie blurted out as you both hiked up the small hill.
“Eddie! You’re being-” your breaths were ragged
“You can tell me i’m being corny, but it still won’t make me sorry,” he cut you off, grinning widely as he looked at you, nothing  but admiration in his eyes
“Don’t you think about our future?” he wondered  out loud,
“Of course, i do, all the time” you think about the nights where you think about two of you when you can't sleep
“Yeah but i have a feeling you’ll have enough of my dramatic ass and leave me,” he teased
You glared at him. You both knew you hated whenever he brought up ‘you leaving him’ because you loved him too much to choose something else over him.
Ironic. How fucking ironic.
He glanced back at the crowd which had shrunken. He scanned the room from the balcony once more before he let the powder get a hold of his mind
And now it's 5:00 a.m. clinging to my couch
And everyone I ever knew is standing in my house
Oh, I wonder who I'm looking for
'Cause you don't go to parties anymore
The sun had started to rise, the sky displaying beautiful colors. He smiled at the scenery, remembering how you used to get lost in the beauty of it all.
“y/n used to love it so much,” he revealed to the boys beside him, but they were too high to listen to him. That didn’t stop him, only encouraged him
They’re not listening, I'll pretend they are
And so he did. He rambled on and on about you. Anything he could remember about your relation, he voiced it, good or bad.
He kept talking and sniffing the powder.
Again
Then again
And once more
Until he blacks out.
-
He doesn’t remember anything except the sky burning auburn, cocaine powder all over the table, your voice in head and then-
He opened his eyes, vision still blurry as he tried to get up. His hand  reaching on the other side of the bed, seeking your warmth, like a habit. He winced at the coldness that resided there.
He was in his room, in the same clothes as last night.
His head hurt so bad like someone banged his head against the wall. He tried to get out of the bed when he saw Steve entering the room with a glass of water in his hand.
“You gotta pick yourself up buddy,” steve said
“I-” his voice was hoarse, mouth dry.
Steve handed him the glass, which he gulped like a thirsty man in the desert. Steve took a seat beside him, legs dangling.
“It was worse this time, eddie” steve tried to get his attention,
Eddie’s gaze was stuck at his door,
Maybe you’d enter, laughing. Maybe you decided to return to him. Maybe just maybe he could have a second chance. Maybe this was all a bad dream,
Steve’s voice pulled him from his daydreams,
“your nose was bleeding, man, you gotta sober up, just try and get over her”
In a beat, he replied, “i don't want to get over her, Steve”
You
Just the mention of you has him talking. Talking non stop about what you two were, what you two could have been
I got the last five years running out my mouth
Always stay too late, I should kick me out
Oh, I wonder who I'm looking for
'Cause you don't go to parties anymore
His chatter was cut short when Steve’s phone rang, which he attended walking out the door.
Eddie was left alone with his thoughts. He turned and extended his hand to get a hold of his phone.
Once in his grip, he opened your chat, re-reading the countless texts he sent you.
“Please come home” he sent one more, like every other day.
Eddie put the phone away as he saw Steve approaching him with his phone extended to Eddie, “its y/n”
Eddie couldn't believe his ears, or eyes or anything, he wasn't registering the situation. He scrambled on the bed, practically leaping out  to meet steve’s phone half way, as he practically snatch it and placed it on his ears,
“y/n?” his voice was shaky, his body was trembling
“Eddie?”
Oh, I wonder who I'm looking for
'Cause you don't go to parties anymore

"Hey, Mum?!" you called as you came down the stairs.
"What is it, sweetheart?" she returned, looking up once she saw you enter the room from the corner of her eye.
"Do you think it's possible to sneak in a whole bag of popcorn so we don't have to buy it there?" you wondered. She gave you a confused look, making you return the look with a smile. "You know, the movies?" you said, "We were gonna see Into the Spider-verse tonight, right?" Your mom closed her eyes for a moment, a long sigh leaving her mouth.
"I'm so sorry, honey," she shook her head, "I forgot Karen and I were meeting our friends for a girls' night."
"Oh... It's okay; We can just do it next weekend then," you replied, but she could hear the disappointment in your voice.
"Why don't you and Mike go?" she suggested, "I know you were really looking forward to it; I'm sure he wants to see it too."
"I'll ask him, but he probably already has band practice tonight or something," you insisted, making your way back up to your bedroom to find your phone.

"Bye, Mum! Have fun with Karen and everyone!" you hollered as you left your house, hearing her call back the same.
"No," he insisted, smacking the hand with your wallet in it, "You bought the tickets, so I'm buying the snacks."
"But I invited you!" you pouted, "I should be the one to pay!"
"Oh, is this a date now?" he smirked, returning the gesture when you shoved him lightly.
"Shut up," you rolled your eyes.
"Come on," he smiled, "I want to."
"Fine," you relented, "But I'm not sharing."
"Didn't expect you to, kitten," he chuckled, stepping up to the concession counter.

You and Michael were the first ones in the theater, so you took your time picking the perfect seats. Once you found them, you sat down and started eating your popcorn. Michael opened his own box of candy, but he was eating far slower than you were.
"You're gonna finish it before the previews even start," he stated, stealing a piece of popcorn from your bucket and laughing when you retaliated by stealing one of his gummy worms, "So what plans changed? You bail on your mum?"
"She bailed on me," you corrected, "Apparently forgot she and Karen were going out tonight."
"Huh," he leaned back in his seat, "My mum said the same thing."
"They both forgot they made plans together?" you cocked an eyebrow, "My mum forgetting something I understand, but yours remembered my birthday when you didn't."
"It was your first birthday after you moved in!" he groaned – you never failed to let him forget that day, "And I took you to that trampoline park to make up for it, didn't I?" You smiled at the memory.
"But you still forgot in the first place," you pouted, making him roll his eyes.
"Well, I haven't forgotten a birthday since, have I?" he reminded you proudly.
"Sure," you nodded, "It's not like it takes place on the same day every single year."
Michael responded by prodding at your sides, making you let out a shrill giggle. You squirmed around in your seat before he stopped tickling you when other people began entering the theater and not wanting to disturb them.
~
Throughout the next two hours, you could feel Michael stealing glances at you – so much so that you were pretty sure he'd been watching you more than the screen. He finally looked down at your lap and you thought he was going to take more of your dwindling supply of popcorn, but he didn't.
Instead of reaching inside the bucket, you felt his hand brush yours and wrap around your fingers to bring your own hand to his lap. You couldn't help the smile that pulled at the corners of your mouth, hoping he didn't see it. You knew he did, though, when he tangled your fingers together and squeezed your hand.
You scooted as close to him as you could in your own seat, laying your head on his shoulder and squeezing his hand right back. You briefly closed your eyes in content when you felt his grinning lips on your hairline before you both turned back to watch the rest of the movie.
~
While the credits were rolling and other moviegoers were leaving, you and Michael remained in your seats. You didn't know if this would change things between you, and you wanted to savor as much of this moment as you could. As the overhead lights in the theater came on, you lifted your head when Michael breathed in deeply.
"M'sorry if I..." he cleared his throat, "I hope that was okay..." You simply smiled, squeezing the hand you were still holding onto. "So, um... Was this a date?" he asked shyly.
"Only if we get to go have ice cream now," you answered. He let out a soft laugh, standing up and pulling you to your feet so you could do just that.
~
Two hours later, you were back home. Michael pulled into his driveway, practically shouting at you when you reached for the door to let yourself out. You laughed to yourself as he climbed out of the driver's seat and ran around to your side, opening your door for you.
"You know, maybe I don't wanna have your babies," you said as you got out of the car, "Maybe I want you to have my babies. Ever think about that?"
"You wanna know what I think?" he smirked. Your eyes widened, but you only made it a step away from him before he picked you up and threw you over his shoulder. You let out a sharp squeal, smacking his lower back playfully.
"Michael!" you laughed, "Put me down!"
"Not until you apologize," he sighed dramatically, continuing the journey to your front porch.
"Apologize for what, being right?" you snorted. You didn't know what prompted him to – he was usually way more stubborn when it came to playful arguments – but he finally put you down in the middle of your front yard.
Once you were back on your feet and your laughter had died down, you and Michael were left standing face-to-face. You couldn't help but smile softly at him as he stared at you, neither of you noticing the two women peeking out of the blinds of your living room window.
"Hi," you breathed out, hoping he was about to ask you what you'd been thinking about since the day you met him.
And your heart soared when he did.
"Can I kiss you?" he whispered so quietly that you almost didn't hear it.
"Yeah," you replied in the same tone, pairing it with a nod.
Michael wasted no time in grabbing your cheeks and pulling your face to his, kissing you like it was the only time he'd ever get to do so. You grabbed his wrists in return, your thumbs rubbing circled on the backs of his hands.
You could hear quiet celebrating and soft high-fives being shared from the direction of your house.
"Someone forgot the windows were open," Michael murmured with a smile – only pulling away enough to speak properly – the gesture only getting bigger when you giggled.
"They're acting like teenagers," you said, earning a chuckle, "Do you think maybe they planned this entire thing and there never was a girls' night?"
"Hmm," he hummed, "Guess they've wanted this just as much as we did."
"Don't know if anyone could have wanted this more than I did," you admitted.
"Not even me?"
"Have you noticed I've been flirting with you since I moved in?" you returned, laughing at the surprise on his face. "Thought so," you teased.
"You've been flirting with me this whole time?" he pouted with a small huff.
"Even Tommy noticed that day at the fair," you giggled again, "Didn't believe him when he said you were oblivious, but I guess he was right."
"Maria noticed too," he confessed, "She saw how jealous I got when he jumped up to show you the bathroom."
"What have you got to be jealous of, huh?" you reached up to peck his lips again, feeling him sigh in content, "Thought it was obvious that my type is guys across the street from me named Michael who play guitar and like All Time Low." He rolled his eyes again.
"You're lucky you're so cute," he informed you. You smiled innocently, feeling your face grow warm at the loving way he was looking at you. "You ready to face our mums?" he asked.
"No," you grinned, "Let's do it."

can you write where you secretly adopt duke for cal’s birthday? please 🥹🫶
Birthday
(okay so for the sake of this fic Covid-19 started in January of 2020 not March)
word count : 1260
warnings : none!
enjoy!
<3
Calum’s birthday was coming up and you desperately wanted to surprise him with something big, but you had to try and figure out what.
He deserved something huge, and while money wasn’t an issue for the two of you, you still had to pick a reasonable thing to get for a gift. It took you a few hours to come up with something, but eventually you picked one. Calum had been desperate for a dog since you two had moved in together, but since he was always running around and on tour, and you had a busy job as well, having a puppy just wasn’t going to work.
The dog wouldn’t get the attention and care it truly needed, despite whether or not you cared for the dog. But now, you were both at home, due to Covid-19, and nobody was really going anywhere. It was a perfect time to get a new animal, and you weren't the only one who thought so. You had seen Calum’s camera roll, and it was filled with dogs and puppies of all breeds. So, you decided, you were going to get him a puppy.
It wasn’t going to be easy to keep it a secret from him, but you went to an animal shelter the day before his birthday, and spent so much time with all of the dogs. It wasn’t until you got to the very last one that you felt a strong connection to him. He had been there for five months, and his age was estimated to be about one year old. His name tag on his cage read “Duke”, and when you read his estimated age, you were happy to see that he was a younger dog, which was what you were looking for.
He was black and white, and very fluffy, and you knew Calum would fall in love with him instantly. So, you went up to the desk to start filling out the adoption papers. When you were talking about which dog you wanted, you learnt that he was already house trained, which was a wonderful thing to hear, because as much as you wanted a dog, you were dreading cleaning up poop from around the house until he was trained. You paid his adoption fee, they put a travel leash on him, and now, you and Calum had a dog. But where was he going to go for the night? You smirked, calling up Ashton, knowing he had a soft spot for Calum.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Ash! Can I ask you a favor? But you have to keep it a secret.”
You could pretty much hear him raise an eyebrow before he agreed, humming an affirmative.
“I got Calum a gift, but I need you to keep it at your place overnight because he can’t see it until tomorrow.”
Ashton sounded a little hesitant, mostly confused.
“You can’t wrap it?”
You laughed, trying to cover it with a cough but miserably failing.
“No, I can’t.”
Duke chose this moment to see a squirrel on the side of the road, losing his absolute mind barking, and of course, Ashton heard.
“Did you get him a dog?!”
You smiled, petting Duke on the head and getting him to hop down from the window.
“I did. So, can you keep him for the night? He’s already house trained.”
Ashton sighed, but you could hear the smile and knew he was relenting.
“Yes, bring him over.”
“Okay, thanks! See you soon.”
Before getting to Ashton’s house, you stopped to get him a water and food bowl, as well as some dog food. The shelter had given you the brand that they used to feed the dogs, so you picked up a bulk bag of that, making sure he had everything he needed. You also got him a bed, a soft fluffy one. Arriving at Ashton’s, you walked up to the door with Duke, and he sat right outside with his tongue hanging lopsided out of his mouth. As Ashton opened the door, you could see the last of his resolve fade away as he immediately crouched down to pet him, picking him up in his arms and cooing at him.
You unloaded the things, helping Ashton set it up for the one night, and laughing when Ashton just waved you off, promising you he could handle it. After about an hour, you left, feeling that Duke would be safe and loved for the one night before you brought him home the next morning.
–
The next morning, you had woken up before Calum, and had gone to pick up Duke. Ashton was quite reluctant to let him go, but you promised he could come over later to celebrate. He was currently outside, and you were setting up Duke’s things in the living room. His bowls were in the kitchen, but his bed was right next to the couch. You went to wake up Calum, smiling as his eyes opened and he sat up, yawning.
“Happy birthday!!! I hate to wake you, but I need a little bit of help this morning.”
You didn’t need any help, you just were incapable of keeping the secret any longer. Calum smiled, even wider when you pressed a soft kiss to his lips, laughing when he tried to pull you back into bed with him.
“Aww, come on. It’s my birthday, you’re not going to cuddle with me?”
You grinned, pulling yourself free.
“Trust me, you’d rather get up.”
This piqued his curiosity, and he got out of bed, sleepily following you to the kitchen. You acted like you had no idea what was about to happen, smiling as he just followed you around like a lost puppy, pun intended. You had a few gifts wrapped on the table, noticing him eyeing them like a small child. You pressed a kiss to his cheek, moving behind him to fill Duke’s water bowl. Calum hadn’t realized it yet.
“Before you open anything, can you let the dog back inside? I forgot to do it before I came and woke you.”
Calum was used to dog-sitting for his friends, this phrase being not completely unfamiliar to him, and so it took him about thirty seconds to realize what you just said.
“Yeah- wait. What?!”
You smiled as he basically sprinted to his sliding porch door, his hands clapping over his mouth when Duke sprinted over to the new human being, his new owner. Calum immediately dropped to the ground to pet him, laughing and smiling as Duke licked all over his face, spinning in excited circles as Calum petted him. Calum picked him up and walked back inside, disregarding the open door as he looked at you in shock.
“You- you got me a dog?! You got us a dog?!”
You smiled, pulling out your phone and taking a photo as Calum held the dog up to eye level, setting him on his head and posing in the kitchen, smiling like an absolute fool. You picked Duke up off of Cal’s head, holding him for a selfie with the three of you.
“He’s ours? Like, forever?”
You nodded, handing him back to Calum as he set him down and watched him spin from excitement.
“What’s his name?”
“I got him from the shelter, his name is Duke.”
If Calum smiled any harder, his jaw might’ve broken.
“I love him. Best birthday ever.”
Calum spent the next three hours teaching him tricks, and if Duke ate his body weight in treats, all it showed was that he was loved.

part two here
got excited writing this sorry ab the lengthiness!

"I'm heading over right now."
"We'll be here.".
I finished my phone call to Ashton, who had just minutes ago invited me for a routine hangout with him and the other three boys.
My friendship with Ashton had sprouted prior to his band forming. We were best friends, some would describe as inseparable. Once joining the band, they immediately brought me in as well. Though never having the same connections as I did with Ashton with them, Calum, Luke and Michael never failed to make me feel at home.
Since then, we've grown up and blossomed into larger things in life, yet we still keep our bond close. Routine effortless hangouts and conversations on almost a daily has kept out growing friendships alive.
Recently, I had began to notice a shift in energy with Calum. I tried to think nothing of it, but the conversations began to get shorter, and his words for me grew small. He almost made me feel as if I did something wrong.
I gathered my belongings, checking my outfit before heading outside to my car, shivering at the cold weather. I dressed lazily in a large grey hoodie, along with black leggings and converse. I quickly turned on the heater after starting my car, and pulled put of the driveway.
I drove quietly as my mind wandered about confronting Calum for his change of mood towards me. I knew I was safe to bring up an issue to my friends, but I was concerned this was only a me problem.
My wandering mind passed the time quickly, arriving me to Ashton's apartment. I pulled slowly onto the curb in front of his apartment, sending off a quick "I'm here" text before exiting my car.
"Heyyy!" Ashton cheered goofily, raising his arms as he appeared from the front door. I giggled as I made my way up his driveway towards him. He reached an arm out for a quick hug as he spoke.
"How ya' doing?" He smiled, ushering me inside. I sighed dramatically.
"Could be better." I raised my eyebrows with defeat as I made my way inside. I set my bag and keys down on his kitchen counter which was decorated with various alcoholic beverages and snacks. I turned to the living room, being greeted by Calum, Luke and Michael at the couch. I watched as Calum's eyes quickly met mine, then shot back down to his hands.
"Well..." Ashton began, moving behind me swiftly, "Have a shot." He grinned, I turned to look at Ashton who had presented me with a small glass with a shot of mystery alcohol in it. The three boys from the living room shouted dramatic miscellaneous cheers and encouragements from behind me. I let out a laugh and reached for the drink. I looked at Ashton and shook my head laughing. With a shrug, I tossed my head back, taking my shot quickly. I scrunched my face briefly before frantically searching for a chaser.
"Give me a drink. I need a drink." I mumbled, shaking my head. Luke whistled from the couch with a laugh, holding out a Coke can. I hurried to the open drink and took a large swig.
"You didn't take that shot, that shot took you." Michael joked as I found my seat on the couch. I scoffed with furrowed eyebrows.
"Fuck off." I giggled. I glanced to Calum who had been awfully quiet. He was heavily focused on picking at a loose string on his t-shirt, faking an amused look on his face. I immediately noted his off mood. The boys continued whatever conversation they had before I arrived, laughing and cracking joke's beside me. I watched Calum carefully as he loosely followed their words, more in his own head than present with us. I decided to finally speak up.
"Cal." I chirped, snapping him out of his trance. His head perked up quickly as the room fell silent.
"Hm?" He raised an eyebrow, his eyes darted to everyone in the room nervously, then back to mine. I anxiously slouched back down at the unexpected and unnerving silence before speaking.
"Are you mad at me or something?" I questioned, keeping a cool tone. I watched from my peripheral as the boys eyes flashed to Calum. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion and he shook his head slowly.
"No..?" He muttered quietly. I bit the inside of me cheek and looked to the other boys, hoping one of them would agree with my observation of Calum's negative mood. Instead, they watched Calum like a bomb.
"You've been so quiet and weird with me lately. I know they see it too." I laughed anxiously, motioning to the boys. I widened my eyes at them, begging for some help. Calum looked to the boys, licking his lips anxiously.
"I-.." He began nervously, "I've just been feeling kinda off recently. I'm sorry." He stuttered nonchalantly, his eyes failing to connect with mine. "Kinda off?" I thought to myself, "Bad excuse.".
"I think he just means in the studio and such. We've all been pretty tired recently." Ashton jumped in quickly, glancing at Calum after speaking.
"Right." I replied, not buying whatever game they were trying to play.
We continued the night many hours into the early morning, as we normally would, we watched a few movies and ordered a bunch of junk food. Calum kept up his unusual behavior, trying his best to fake it, but I never let go of the thought that I would find out what was going on with him.
"You sure you don't wanna spend the night? It's late, and you've been drinking." Ashton offered as we walked to his front door. I gave him a hug and stepped outside.
"No, it's okay." I looked down to my phone, noting the time of 1:45 am. "I have work tomorrow and I'm okay to drive. My last drink was hours ago and all those snacks and fast food have taken over my veins." I groaned dramatically. Ashton giggled before nodding gently.
"I'll see you later." He patted my back and sent me down his driveway, watching me as I entered my car.
On my drive home, I was left unsatisfied with my confrontation with Calum. I thought our closeness would have led him to be more open, but he was so blatantly lying. Ashton obviously covering the lie for him only grew my suspicions more. My mind raced of the possibilities of what could be bothering the boy.
I lazily kicked off my shoes as I entered my apartment, tossing my keys of a small side table beside the door. Filled with junk from Ashton's house, I skipped my kitchen and headed straight for my bedroom.
I slipped out of my black leggings and hoodie, changing into a large shirt and underwear. As I tossed my laundry into the basket, my phone let off a ding on my bed. I flopped onto my bed, reaching for my phone and reading the notification. It read that the boys had started a live stream on twitch. I let out a giggle, amused at the boy's inability to rest. Clicking on the notification, I settled into my bed.
"We just saw each other 20 minutes ago!" Ashton cheered sarcastically from the livestream. I smiled at the faces on the screen.
"Hey, Y/n is here." Ashton chuckled, looking closer at the screen. I watched as the boys talked to the viewers of the stream and to each other, making jokes and messing with filters.
"Calum's sad cause Y/n yelled at him." Michael joked. Calum sent Michael a death glare, earning a chuckle from me.
"She didn't yell at me." Calum scoffed with a forced smile. I rolled my eyes sarcastically at his stubbornness, continuing to tune into the stream.
"He's sad cause he's in love with her." Ashton mumbled looking down to his phone, widening his eyes quickly and looking up at his screen after speaking, realizing what he had said.
"Dude." Calum spoke quietly. I narrowed my eyebrows at his words, him looking just as surprised as me. Ashton turned off his camera, followed by Calum, as if he had said something controversial. I put the speaker to my ear as the live suddenly fell quiet. Incoherent whispers came through before Ashton appeared again.
"Alright we'll see you guys later." Ashton forced a smile and a wave to the livestream before ending it abruptly. I stared at my empty screen in confusion, trying to make sense of Ashton's words. Did I hear him wrong? Was my phone glitching? I decided to play it cool and text Ashton calmly.
"Hey, why'd you end your live?"
I watched the three dots appear and disappear repeatedly before his message appeared.
"You should text Cal.".

Having a baby with Calum would include...
Tumblr media
2/4 in the father-to-be series :
Calum ~ would be really fucking excited but also really fucking nervous
“Okay so our baby is the size of a lime right now. A lime. Can you believe that?” Calum read off, scrolling through his phone in the bathroom as he got ready for bed. He looked over at you, and smiled as he looked at your stomach, a tiny yet noticeable bump there.
“A fucking lime!” He repeated, “That’s insane. We did that. We made a freaking baby and it’s living.”
“The three month mark is an important one too,” You said, continuing to read your book and Calum hummed to himself as he started brushing his teeth.
“Baby, did you know that it’s good for your pregnancy for you to cum?” Calum stated, and you burst out laughing at your husband. He looked up from his phone as he finished brushing his teeth in the bathroom.
“Calum,” You breathed out, holding your stomach slightly as you looked over at him. He spit into the sink and rinsed, then tucked his phone into the pocket of his sweatpants.
“I’m telling you the truth!” Calum exclaimed, and you continued to laugh at how incredulous he was.
“I’m sorry, I don’t believe you.” You giggled, and he threw his hands up over his head as he collapsed onto the bed beside you.
“Then let me show you,” Calum murmured and he turned over in bed. You put your book down on the bedside table and
“Before you do that, explain. And Cal, I’m only three months along.” You reasoned, and he chuckled as he knelt between your legs.
“Orgasms cause a release of endorphins and oxytocin, and orgasms apparently help you prepare for giving birth. And that will help you in six months. So obviously, we need to practice.”
“Hmm. Fine, come on baby.” You said, winking at him and he chuckled as he pushed your (his) tshirt up, and kissed the inside of your thighs gently.
Other pregnancy things from Cal would include -
Ice cream runs at any time of the day
Helping you shower/bathe, especially toward the end of your pregnancy
Lotioning your stomach and giving you light massages
Lots of innocent touches
Lots of naughty touches too
Playing music for the baby and slipping in some old school rock music to educate the baby
Reading to the baby too
Just lots of enrichment for the baby
Him researching everything that can help and nearly passing out at the information of when you’re about to give birth
Having three different bags and birth plans ready to go in case of anything
