One of the joys of watching s3 is watching Hannibal without his ‘person suit’. He realizes he doesn’t need it anymore bc everyone knows what he is now and he doesn’t need to pretend to be a normal person anymore.
Like he’s spent two seasons being this meticulous mastermind who never admitted to a thing, even when he and Will were alone to just:
No more cannibal puns. No more ‘alluding’. Just straight up chaos.

Graceland: Just the whole show really but check out 1x09/1x10 when he gets stabbed, 2x13 he gets shot, 3x01 aftermath of getting shot, 3x07 emotional whump, 3x08 the best! Withdrawal scene
BBC Merlin the whole show. 1x04 is a fav of mine. Merlin poisoned. 1x13 good Arthur whump, 4x02 and 5x08 more good merlin, and 5x13 for more arthur

I def agree with your choices of episodes! Idek how many times I have watched 5x16, but for me that’s also one of my favs. It’s def up there. I just love how that gang randomly comes in and stirs up commotion and how Kelly protects Stella. Also yes to szn 3x01 I have also watched that more than twice. It has made me cry cuz of Shay’s death ofc. Whatever the episode was a little later, it was sad to see Dawson and Severide go back to where Shay died. And ofc, the Stellaride wedding! Oh it was so perfect! I can never get over their vows for each other.
5x16 is my favorite episode! i will never get tired of watching it! And stellaride vows were truly so perfect! i need to rewatch that episode

3x17 - some bad decisions are made... (ykw that should be the tagline of this show) and alec almost proposes,,, magnus breaks down (hsj oscar when)
3x18 - the best acted scene in the show... the malec breakup
3x19 - magnus wanders thru nyc because alec forgot he doesn’t have a fucking apartment! OH ALSO MAGNUS GETS HIS MAGIC BACK <3 ALSOOO some flashbacks <333 ugh the lock one <3 crying
3x20 - MALEC GET ENGAGED!!! also the most aesthetically pleasing scene in the show 👌 alec pulling magnus into a kiss (BY HIS LAPELS) with the world burning behind them <3

top 5 bughead moments <3
I miss them so much, and I probably have more than five fav. moments but here’s my top five (that It can change)
1- Pop’s scene in 1x10 (when he kisses her scars, that was the moment I started to ship them)
2- Now that I’m the serpent king… 2x22 (they got engaged in that scene, can’t change my mind)
3- We are partners in serpents, in life… 3x01 (that was such a cute moment for them)
4- Like romeo and juliet but we live happily ever after instead , 2x05 (that scene broke my heart)
5- It’s good to see you too Jug… 5x05 (This was their first one on one scene after the time jump and It just kills me everytime I see it, the way they look at each other, so angsty, I love it, they had so much potential this season) (I think this moment its underrated)

this shot of jake and amy in halloveen -
just this whole scene with charles was so good but this one shot??? i just d*e everytime i see it. cus u can tell how happy these 2 are and it’s a kind of happiness uve never seen before and it just melts my heart. seriously so many things i love about the proposal but this one shot is my favourite.
the bar scene at the end of 5x02 - jake and amy’s reunion after prison was just the cutest and i don’t think we talk about it enough. their heart eyes after that kiss GODDDD it was sooo good i cant. and the way amy holds onto jake’s hoodie and they just stand there looking at each other as rosa talks and then the scene where jake talks about being in solitary, amy just stands right next to him holding onto his jacket like literally no personal space whatsoever. AND when the whole squad says “nine nine” u can see jake leaning towards amy and IM JUST SICK ITS JUST THE CUTEST
jake wiggling mac’s foot - dk whether this is small but i just love that scene so much! like it’s so cute and also mac is actually his son???? and amy’s the mum??? and jake’s the dad???? still havent processed this but yes that foot wiggle is the cutest 🥺

just look at them just happily and lovingly looking at each other as they plan their future ahead 🥺 so much happened this episode but this one scene made it all worth it. seriously one of my favourite jake and amy heart eyes and it definitely helps that they both look extra good. idk i just love this heart eyes scene so so much it’s not much but it’s something that makes me very happy
jake calling amy darling at the end of 5x16 - actually that whole scene is so cute. from amy a cheesy pick up line to jake teasing her for it to the almost kiss to JAKE CALLING AMY DARLING! it’s a very simple scene but it’s the only time we have heard jake call her that and i love that so much. can jake call her darling again that would be great for me. also they look so darn good in that scene

You should def do a top 20 or top 10 or top 5 episodes of the OC one day 👀 I said three different amounts because I don't know what you'd be willing or even have the time to do, but I would take whatever we can get while also not being able to deny that I would love to hear your 20 favs if you'd be down, but I know that's a lot. They don't necessarily have to be ranked, I'm fine either way! Some people hate ranking stuff which I understand, I don't mind it though. I'm assuming the Mall Episode and all of a few of the Chrismukkahs would be up there? A lot of season 1 eps? There's that one where Seth and Summer paint/reorganize Marissa's room and the core 4 end up cuddling on the bed together. I'm so curious! And full disclosure I only recently watched the OC for the first time this summer, and had never really heard of it before a friend recommended it to me after I had binged the original Gossip Girl. I was born in 96 and just completely missed its place in pop culture 😭 haven't seen OTH either, but maybe one day. We'll see lol. There's so much content these days and while I am in the mood for teen drama sometimes it's not my favorite genre. While I was watching the Mischa pieces dropped so that was interesting. Hate what they did to Marissa as a character. 100% team Mischa/Marissa. Getting through season 4 was ROUGH. Followed your blog right after I finished watching I think because I really wanted to know what other people thought of the show. Love hearing your thoughts. Sorry for rambling a bit x

And no I love ranking!! It's fun and helps me organize my thoughts! Tbh, I'm not a huge fan of any Chrismukkah ep, but 2x06 The Chrismukkah That Almost Wasn't is my fave. I feel like the Chrismukkah eps never position Marissa in a favorable light so they make me cringe but I love the drama of 2x06. I don't really get when people say they hate Lindsay since she's boring when her father is literally Caleb Nichol and Marissa's stepsister. I mean the show only touched on the awkwardness of Marissa/Lindsay in 2x09 but the potential is SO there for good tension. Maybe it's me living in those possibilities more than anything else.
1x24 The Proposal is a fave for sure. Definitely a top 10er! Aww it's okay! I was born in '95 and weirdly got into it in high school when it wasn't streaming anywhere and I had to watch on DVDs and SoapNet when I was sick. Oh, SoapNet. Those were the days. Eh, I could live without OTH. It's not as great as The OC even at its height, but s2 of their show is fantastic. I made the mistake of witnessing the Leyton vs. Brucas ship wars and they scarred me for life. No joke, if you got into that show during that era, you will never get over it.
I love some teen dramas but I'm not a huge afficiado or anything. If you're looking for some 90s/00s teen drama and a relationship that has you shook and subverts narrative expectations, Dawson's Creek is your fix. Their first two seasons are contentious IMO but oh my god in s3 you'll have an otp for life. But that show also struggles with female characterization.
Anyway, congrats on getting through s4 of this show! That's honestly an achievement. Actually, getting through s3 of this show is also an undertaking. That shit gets so tired but does pick up toward the end. Here on this blog I don't really acknowledge what happens in 3x25 because I firmly believe that Marissa sailed away to Greece and lived her best goddamn life. Thank you so much for stopping by on this blog! It's nice to feel like I'm not alone in my thoughts for this sort of niche show that ended so long ago. but tl;dr it’s a song about relying too much on a person and needing to break free and be independent but not in a toxic sort of way, more in a for personal growth and the best for everyone because co-dependence holds everyone back and i really, really, really love that in context of beth and her children, her learning to step back and not smother them but also not give so much of herself that she disappears entirely because that’s not good for them in the long run
basically it’s sort of a thesis statement for beth’s underlying s1 arc
plus it’s just like, heavy and haunting and absolutely gorgeous and not to be like, unreasonably pretentious, moves me and i love it

the song is all about leaving behind the things weighing you down and moving into a brighter, more free future and i love love love how that plays with the duality of beth hiding the wire and securing her source of information for the secret service BUT ALSO marking this moment as a turning point for beth and rio because it absolutely is.
(like not just the fact that they’ve resumed a physical relationship but rio’s invited beth deeper into his world and we’re seeing beth crack on a level we really haven’t before)
this season is leaning SO HARD into duality and the tangled up truths and lies between them and i am absolutely UNHINGED over it
i also really love the like, passionate ballad nature of it juxtaposed over this twisted, extremely sexy moment (intercut with dean joyfully trying to seize hold of his new hobby only to be IMMEDIATELY denied)
there are just so many layers to it and i love all of them

the whole theme of this song is two people tearing each other apart and destroying the bones of their former intimacy which like, hello subject matter aptitude and it’s told through this GLORIOUSLY dramatic hurricane at sea imagery with ships being dragged below the waves by the hurricanes the two people have called down on each other set to a gorgeous over the top orchestral score
on a yrical note, i love that the song is basically the same verse over and over (interspersed with the chorus, obvs) and the only change is me vs you when it comes to who brought the storm down on them
basically, if you were challenged to come up with a song that represented two peak dramatique heaux nightmare factories locked in a never ending game of deadly cat and mouse, you couldn’t top this.
i am ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED with the choice to pair it with a montage of beth finally pulling the trigger (with foresight and intent, shooting rio was p obvs a oh shit look what i did moment), a milestone rio’s been dragging her (down) towards since the beginning of s2 AND using him to do it, dragging him (down) into her mess (m ade all the more messy when you consider he was the target of it) (i just! love it! so! much!)

UGH GOD when that high hat and bass kicked in the first time i was like oh shit we are in for some DRAMA and sure enough we were as well as a more sexual montage than anything you’d find in actual porn.
idk, the fact that they chose this deep, dark, mournful about lost love to an elongated montage slow motion montage of rio watching beth make fake cash and deciding not to kill her for nearly killing him doEs stuFf to me
all i’m saying is johnathan leahy ships brio harder than any of us and is a more dramatique heaux than either of them, which are two really impressive feats to achieve
AND THEN!!! AND THEN!!!!! they CHOPPED THE SONG UP!!!!! so they were able to take advantage of the dawning drama of the opening bars BUT ALSO include the closing stanza about wearing the marks the subject of the song gave the singer like a scar where they took his heart from him and the INTENTIONALITY of that creative choice puts me on the FLOOR

honeslty, lowkey surprised this one made my top five. not because it isn’t a fabulous song deployed with johnathan leahy’s usual mastery, but bc i didn’t realize how much i loved it until making this list
i don’t really have like, a deep, lyrically rooted storytelling reason for loving it, i just think the way they used it in the show is Such A Vibe
the way the vibrating synthy tones and underlying organ kicks in while rio’s getting in the elevator has this beautiful held breath anticipatory quality to it that works SO WELL to set up the montage of rio strutting out back into his life while turner gets murdered (a scene i have some uh, complicated feelings about but setting those aside), and the bolands’ fresh start to the tune of bouncy drums and looping vocals
idk it’s such a shining note to end the first episode of a new season on, i remember feeling refreshed and super hype for what’s to come
notable lyrics: no lyrics, just the vibe of the opening bars
tl;dr i really, really, REALLY love how this show uses music. you can tell they put a lot of time and effort and thought into it and while i know the trajectory isn’t working for everyone, personally i love it. granted, as you can see from this list, i clearly love the shit out of a down tempo dramatic ballad, so. if you are more of a bangers and bops person, i would point you to @nickmillerscaulk’s inbox as she is a Certified Bangers Afficianado.

Ooh this is a hard one, because there’s a lot of good ones? I’ve just kind of put them in a list of my top 10 bc I got carried away.
1. The 2x16 confession
Truly an iconic speech and first kiss.
2. The 5x01 proposal
I don’t have any complaints it’s cute and amazing.
3. The dancing queen scene 2x20
This scene had me screaming I love it so much.
4. Their first scene in 3x01
Their banter is so fun I wish their dynamic had been more of this overall?
5. Their first meeting 2x06
Idk I just remember watching this for the first time and being like “here we go”
6. The couples therapy scene in 3x17
The comedy and the emotions all hit hard here
7. 5x19 scene
I can’t find a gif of it but this scene is just so cute and domestic, I love how supportive Blaine is and the little cheek kiss.
8. Their first time 3x05
Their parts are adorable but I do wish the overall episode was better and I could care less about the Finchel scenes tbh. I like the song aswell though, one hand one hart and Maria are my two fav WSS songs (I wish Blaine had got to sing Maria so bad)
9. 6x13 future scenes
Idk I think it’s neat it showed them having a nice ending and getting ready to be Dad’s and being successful

What is your ONE favourite THT episode? Favourite scene?
This is the meanest message I’ve ever received on this hellsite. ;) How dare you make me choose ONE favourite. I’m not even sure if that’s possible?
Honestly I think 2x04-2x09 is PEAK THT (except 2x07 is meh), and there aren’t many episodes I’d even remotely consider outside that group. The only one that comes close would probably be 1x03. Although I do enjoy 1x05 and 1x06.
Look I am 100% biased towards more Serena-centric episodes. If you had to make me choose which episode objectively is the best THT episode, I may have a different answer. (Although, sometimes I think 2x09 is objectively the best episode they’ve ever done, all bias aside. Although 1x09 and 2x13 are up there in terms of general cohesiveness and quality too. I am so close to including 3x03 in this group but... I just can’t give S3 that sort of credit lol.)
So, in my personal opinion with all bias in mind, I think if I had to chose ONE favourite...
2x06?
I think. Honestly, it flickers back and forth from 2x06, 2x08, and 2x09. Sometimes I think it’s 2x09. Sometimes I think it’s 2x08. But just in terms of general enjoyment and rewatchability, 2x06 probably. EXCEPT for the Eden rape scene. I take great exception to that particular scene being in 2x06 and I 100% skip it every single time. It is so gross and so disturbing that I can’t do it. (It really upsets me and wish I could recut the episode and just delete that whole scene. I do not like how it was so long and so graphic. It’s bad enough watching adult Handmaids get raped every second episode; watching a CHILD get raped is just too far for me. It is equally as bad to me as 2x10′s rape scene. How other people don’t see that boggles my mind. And I know why: a lot of people don’t care about Eden and even more people don’t see it as rape... but it absolutely is. So, anyway, that scene aside. As long as I don’t watch that scene, 2x06 is perhaps my fav.)
It’s not exactly the best episode they’ve ever made and I know a lot of ~critics panned 2x06, just like they panned 2x08 as well. But... well, I am a Serena fan so I’m going to gravitate towards mid-S2 obviously. And 2x06 is particularly good for getting into the other side of Serena’s character and her sheer desperation for connection with someone. And that belly scene has to be the most genuine non-tearful, non-rage-monster moments for Serena’s character.
I dunno, anon. I’m torn. I really want to say 2x09 also.
ANYWAY, favourite scene is even more difficult. There are so many. I feel like it’s cheating to say a scene from 2x06 although I adore that fucking weirdass lunch scene where Serena is playing house with June and her friends, and then makes the entire thing 400 times more awkward every second she’s there lol.
I also fucking loved the scene where Emily stole the car and ran over the Guardian. There were a few really excellent scenes in S3 too (including The Break Up Scene), but over the whole season was such shit that I just can’t really get excited about them as much as I should. Serena screaming for June in 2x11 was riveting too, especially in conjunction with her and Fred’s fight with June’s gun trained on them. I really enjoyed that scene. (That was the only thing I liked about that whole crap episode too so I can’t give it total props.) June smacking Fred in 2x13 is also tops. But there were a lot of great scenes in 2x13 tbh. And pretty much every scene in 2x09 is amazing. (Why didn’t I say this was my fav ep again?)
But I think it may be a tie between 2x03′s “Feeding the ducks” flashback scene (aka the only good thing about 2x03 tbh, other than the fact Moss in boy’s clothes is exceptionally hot.), and 3x01′s June/Serena “My baby screamed for her mother!” scene. It’s a difficult choice.
I think if you put a gun to my head, eventually I’d settle on the 3x01 scene. Just cos....... I am a dirty fucking slut for my OTP touching each other like that and all those emotions.

Did you finish Grimm already?? What were your favorite episodes? I wanna rewatch some but can't decide on which ones, so I want to know what yours were *chin hands*
I haven’t finished yet! I just started season 4 so I’m only halfway through so far! Although I have spoiled myself on a few things that happen in the next few seasons but I don’t care that much. Spoilers don’t bug me. Although some of what I read definitely does bug me
Anyway I love it! I love the concept so much. It’s so cool and has so much potential for exploration. And I love all the characters (expect Adalind. Sorry. I hate her. My sister keeps telling me I’ll grow to like her but god I really really dislike her right now). Nick is so hot and kind and badass. Monroe is 100% me I’m not gonna lie. His reaction to the trailer is exactly how I’d react. Rosalee is amazing. Absolutely amazing. And her and Monroe are so cute together. I love Juliette too and it’s killing me that every time she and Nick get to a good place something comes along and fucks it all up (usually related Adalind pulling some bullshit). But her enthusiastic participation in the wessen/Grimm stuff is so funny. I love her. Then Hank and Wu and Sean are pretty cool too. There are some things that irk me within the show but overall the it is pretty great and I’m thoroughly enjoying myself.
Anyway, lol, my favorite episodes so far have been:

2x09 (La Llorona is one of my fav stories)

Favourite supergirl episodes from any season?
1x05 thru 1x07: Livewire is the earliest episode where I was like “huh... they got real emotions” and then they really leaned into character-centered narratives for the next couple episodes. I think it’s these couple episodes that really got people hooked. Also, I miss Thanksgiving episodes.
1x13 and 1x16: For the Girl Who has Everything and Falling... staples of the show. Need I say more.
1x20: It’s just a very sweet ending. Kara gets to say what she wanted to say on Krypton. And James gifts a very normal, unsuper photo to Kara that just means a lot to me, personally lmao
2x06: Alex begins her journey of putting herself first and it starts big. It’s always empowering to see queer people take that almost impossible first step.
2x10 thru 2x11: The Martian Chronicles episodes... I watch these for M’gann and J’onn... the visuals with the forehead press??? stop
3x01 thru 3x06: Really really good writing and diving deep into Kara’s psyche. The Faithful remains my absolute favorite from this series. It’s just such a good story. And the Hallelujah sequence at the end with Kara’s narration? Truly poetic cinema. Also, other characters confront their feelings of anguish and loss.
3x09: Reign... The fight choreo for this episode is top tier and that Christmas party fiasco scene is one of my fav moments in the series
4x03: Man of Steel... okay not to be controversial, I think it’s always nice to see our beloved characters from another POV. And understanding how people get radicalized is important because duh why the heck would you plug your ears and pretend it happens for no reason? Gotta find the source before you solve the problem.
4x14: Stand and Deliver... a lot of people never like when Supergirl has political messaging, but she’s inherently a political character that was truly a stark contrast to the US administration at the time. S4 in general is one of my favorites because it does a great job being a vehicle for discussing immigrant/refugee struggles. And it’s not just in a metaphorical sense, they wrote it in a way that was a genuine reflection of the real-world.
4x16: Red Daughter was such a highlight of S4, I loved her. And this sort of starts the Lex plot that was very fun and interesting in S4 (tho followed us for a bit too long)
5x13: The 100th episode does a good job staying in the season’s plot but also getting back to the roots of the series
6x??: I’m ready to love more. :)

Fav se angsty scenes ?
Most of them are in season 3 for obvious reasons
Before I get into my general assessment of these moments I need to bring your attention to the above 3x22 gif because I’ve never seen this scene so close before and the way Stefan looks at Elena before she looks up at him… like he looks like this might be the last time he gets to kiss the woman he loves.
But what I love about these angsty SE moments, which happen throughout the series but specifically season 3 is I think you see the physical representation of KW’s quote on how Stefan and Elena meet each other and can breathe again?
^^ like even here there’s a moment where Elena’s lips widen and it’s like she’s exhaling, you see it in the phone call in 3x01 when Elena says Stefan’s name and he exhales:
and what makes that “breath” angsty is the fact that the scene usually starts out with them taking a chance, either an emotional one or a physical one, that has them holding their breath, maybe Elena has moved on, maybe Stefan doesn’t want to fight anymore, maybe I might die:
and then SE connect and they breathe:
In season 1:
So what I love specifically about this last gif is how Stefan makes eye contact with Elena until the last possible moment because that eye contact is establishing trust, like if you don’t want to do this at any time, I’ll see that and I will be perfectly happy dying here while you leave and it also establishes how much he loves her while Elena offering her vein to an in-need ripper establishes how much she loves him.
The angst of season 1 is all about establishing, establishing their connection through gazes, the depth of their love through stares, like we don’t see what Stefan’s expression is like when Elena tells him she loves him, it’s the back of his head and then Elena and then back to Stefan and he turns around so we the audience and she the love interest can see how completely moved and wrecked (in the best way) he is by what she said whereas their stares with each other are angsty because they’re extremely charged and both of them are deeply moved and it makes it intense:
In season 2:
Season 2 is probably the least angsty SE season but I think the two above gifs are underrated. Elena stabbed herself to stab Elijah and then Stefan rushes to feed her his blood but what I love about the above moment is how Elena is comforting Stefan as much as he’s comforting her? She knows how scared he must’ve been seeing her stab herself so she’s looking at him and holding his head like, are you OK? And the gif above it, I really love how earnest Stefan is there, the way he’s like I don’t think you get that I will literally die for you, so don’t worry and Elena’s strong like NO, I GET THAT, THAT IS THE PROBLEM. I DON’T WANT YOU TO DIE.
In season 4:
I talk about the above gif a lot because I find this scene so underrated, it’s not the typical angsty scene but I included it in this list because of the weighted tension of the entire scene and the unspoken makes it angsty. Damon outs that Stefan slept with Rebekah and he does it because he wants to solidify distance between Stefan and Elena, he’s throwing it in Elena’s face essentially and Stefan knows that it will hurt Elena which is why before this scene he stares at her and Elena is visibly hurt when she looks at him and she is still hurt in this scene and Bonnie even knows that Stefan sleeping with Rebekah will upset Elena because she’s staring at her throughout this entire exchange like, damn girl, you OK? And it’s angsty because everyone knows that Elena is sleeping with Damon but that Stefan sleeping with someone else deeply hurts Elena.
In general, the season 4 angst was really about how tethered Stefan and Elena still were to each other, I mean when she touches his hand as he touches her face that’s the episode she sleeps with Damon, the sexual tension of their prom dance is angsty because Elena is clearly moved by it.
In season 5:
I think the last two gifs are angsty for a couple of reasons. In the gif above I enjoy how when they’re not looking at each other, they have an AWWWKARD expression on their faces but when Stefan turns to Elena, their expressions change, they’re looking at each other’s lips and Stefan actually licks his, which is like the whole point of this scene was supposed to be like har har exes in close proximity, the discomfort! Bu it actually looks like they legit want to jump each other’s bones and thought better of it and Stefan using how Elena never gave up on him as incentive for her not to give up on Damon is the show dragging DE without thinking about it. The gif above is when Elena wakes up after Stefan kills Katherine and just that soft blink Stefan does when he sees Elena is actually there is super angsty because my guy looks at no one else that way.
The overall angst of season 5 is a continuation of season 4 but in my opinion sadder because these emotional, charged moments but there’s also a sense of dejection in their expressions like they can’t see a path that leads them back toward each other because of the choices they made and yet they still envision that path.
In season 6:
What’s angsty about the last gif to me is the way Elena lowers her eyes and head when she walks away. In general, I find that the SE angst of season 6 comes from the fact that they’re always cycling back to what they were to each other, who they were to each other and it’s not in a way in which they moved on, they’re trying to replicate that with other people while episodes like 6x16 re-emphasize their connection.
In seasons 7 and 8:
We all know why the last two gifs are angsty af, I especially find it angtsy because we see Stefan’s wedding ring as he brushes Elena’s hair away but Julie and co had so many interviews and quotes about how seasons 7 and 8 are supposed to be the continuation of the DE love story even though Elena isn’t present but I really think it just reinforced the SE love story in much subtler but poignant, angsty and profound ways.

The Magicians 3x01: The Best Episode of Buffy
Abra Cadbra Bishes! It is Magicians time once again! What, did you think I had abandoned recaps all together? Probably a safe assumption honestly due to the way I completely abandoned Dirk Gently Season 2 (now cancelled btdubs) AND parted ways with The Walking Dead. But I could never leave my beautiful Magicians behind. This show is a balm for the troubled mind, a crutch for the broken spirit, a festival of hotties for the thirsty eye.
There is not a “previously on” long enough to fully remind me of all the plot developments that happened last season. But the glory of the Magicians is that full and comprehensive understanding of the plot is not necessary for enjoyment of the show. In fact the writers themselves seem to acknowledge this in the speedy construction and subsequent introduction of this season’s main arc. But we’ll get to all of that in a moment - first what DID happen last season? Well most notably the Magicians killed Ember/Umber creators of Fillory, in order to save the magical land. However the big gods frowned upon the culling of the little ones and punished the universe by turning off the magic pipes. Major buzzkill.
As for our heroes, One-Eyed Bambi and High King Best Character are attempting to a rule a magic-less kingdom, while at the same time dealing with a full-scale fairy invasion. The Fairy Force is ruthless, demanding, and trickiest of all: invisible to most. Usually I try to start slow and then ramp up to the real highlights or lowlights in an episode, but this time I just can’t wait. I know we are only 13 days into this new baby year, but I am ready to call Margo and Eliot’s subtitled nerd-code forest summit the most joyous thing I will see on TV this year. I like to imagine the writers of The Magicians just sitting around together, perhaps on toadstools, drinking novelty cocktails and saying, “Hey, you know what would be cool to do?” (See also last season’s Les Mis musical break for further proof of this). What’s more is it’s proof that The Magicians really understands its audience. How SEEN did you guys feel during this?
This scene, and Margo and Eliot’s storyline (I’m not even gonna TOUCH the Great Cock), is exemplary of why I keep coming back. In a world of dour must-see dramas, and existentially-fraught comedies, The Magicians is unrepentant in its irreverence. Also Margo’s outfits continue to be ON POINT, work it my one-eyed, spy traitor, earth-worm fetching, power pony Queen.
Other things are also happening elsewhere, so let’s talk about everyone else too I guess. On Earth the magic shortage has made prospects pretty grim for everyone. Brakebills might have to shut down, magical knowledge could be lost forever, and parties just aren’t as good. The only person with any sort of spark left is Julia, who after not-killing Reynard last season, is finally getting her groove back. Sensing a righteous quest, Quentin immediately enlists himself as her sidekick. At least he knows his place.
In order to work their way up the god food chain in an attempt to get more magical intel, the fearless duo first crash a party thrown by the OG party-god, Bacchus. I don’t know if this is a sign I am getting old, but his eight day rave looked totally exhausting to me. I felt dehydrated just seeing those purple mystery shots. Jokes about his social media ‘following’ will have to sustain me in the post-American Gods television wasteland. Drugs, black lights, booze, and bouts of mental torment are had by all.
Meanwhile Penny still has his ability to teleport, was the Library exempt from magic-loss? I know they are all sinking into a wormhole and Penny is dying of poison-cancer, isn’t that enough? Luckily Marlee Matlin is BACK to save the day! Her limited interaction with Kady is enough to suggest she will return in the future, which is very excellent news! Magicians always has an A+ guest cast, and with the cavalcade of returning recurs in the opener I am assured this season will be no different.
So what’s going on now? This episode largely served as a status report for all our favs: Eliot and Margo are in trouble, Q and Julia are friends again, Kady and Penny are the ultimate literal star-crossed lovers, and oh fuck I totally forgot Alice existed. Alice has fallen in with a bad crowd, her new interests are bacon and moody staring. Aside from that check-in this episode launched a new quest/plot-line for season 3, set to our heroes by the sexiest creature in all of Fillory - The Great Cock. Their mission, should they have to accept it to restore all magic, is to find seven keys! Great! I really appreciate how little the show bothers with backstory or slow set up, they understand this not what we are here for. We are here to forget all of our troubles and find new hairstyles to compliment our eyepatch.
Cheers to you Magicians, now lets go get some keys.

Muse: A Concept (er- a fic explanation)
Have you ever seen a fic of mine that you enjoyed reading, but months later when you wanted to find it on either AO3 or FFnet, no matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t?
I believe I may have the answer to all your frustration.
Muse - a fic in which I post all my oneshots that are based purely off spoilers, starting in 3x01.
Drabbles - a fic in which I post all the oneshots I get that are requests (I’ll make a separate post for this one)
I started each of these before I discovered the series feature on AO3, and so instead of being separate stories, each of these are just a chapter in one of these stories. And chances are, they are title-less (at least for Muse, minus the ep it’s supposed to be in), so if you’re searching for something, it is prob near impossible to find again unless you remember the chapter - and story - it was in.
The purpose of this post is to give a short synopsis of each chapter in Muse (as said before, I’ll make a separate one for Drabbles), so that if you’d like to reread an old fav of mine that you can’t find elsewhere, you should hopefully be able to find it here.
Chapter 1

Chapter 2
Episode: 3.02
Written: post 3.01, after seeing the 3.02 promo
Inspiration: the brief seconds of a Barry & Iris scene in the 3.02 extended promo and this quote by Candice Patton: "Once we kind of get out of Flashpoint, they’re going to have to deal with knowing that they knew each other in that timeline and what that means for them in their relationship and if they want to move forward or if things have just changed so much that they can’t."

Written: post 3.03, after seeing the Superhero All Week promo
Inspiration: the Superhero All Week promo released after 3.03 aired where Barry & Iris (at the very least) make out on a couch (note: candle spotted in the scene). This snippet is the lead up scene to that.

Episode: Assumed post 3.09 (the context of this scene was cut from whatever episode it was in, so there’s no way to know for sure)

Inspiration: multiple promos all featuring footage from this episode [3.21], in addition to the Barry & Iris 3.21 episode still. (This is the scene featured in that episode still + a little extra.)
Chapter 7

Written: prior to s4 premiere
Inspiration: the DCTV promo featuring Barry listing everything he had for breakfast to Joe & Captain Singh, as well as interviews implying that Barry appears to be out of it when first emerging from the speed force. This chapter showcases Barry and Iris coming home after, and it incorporates Iris' confused feelings about it.

Inspiration: the DCTV promo (same as prevs chap) featuring Barry saying (to Iris) “the weight of the whole city is on my shoulders” and Iris’ complicated feelings on his leaving her to go into the speed force, as indicated in interviews. Also, some dialogue from the 4.01 The Flash Reborn promo were incorporated.

I think he’s a little oblivious to the dynamic at first, to be honest. He’ll put his foot in his mouth a couple of times, but I don’t think he’s being hardheaded about, ‘You’re not the leader. I’m the leader.’ It’s more like, ‘Oh, this is the dynamic now.’ So, we definitely in the first and second episodes see him adjusting to the new dynamic. But, he’s cool with it. I think we really are going to see a more mature, open Barry than we’ve seen. He’s not going to be quite as hardheaded and stubborn with his friends."

Inspiration: Grant and Candice's commentary from SDCC 2018 on how Barry and Iris process Nora being there in a negative way (i.e. Barry feeling like Nora being there is taking yet another thing away from him and Iris feeling jealous by Barry & Nora's bond and Nora's clear distancing of her). This chap shows them isolating themselves to internalize their feelings and then wordlessly finding comfort in each other.
