Breaking down America's raw power
I think the best way I can describe how I see Alfred's strength is that of a Mantis Shrimp. Like imagine how strong a Mantis shrimp is but in human size. Never heard of Mantis shrimp? Let me lay it out for you. A mantis Shrimp can throw a punch at 50 miles an hour and when it swings its hand the kinetic force around it makes the water so hot that it boils. The average Mantis shrimp can punch with a force of being hit with 340 lbs of force. Just in one tiny little claw. and that is the average shrimp not one that is seasoned and has been at it awhile the big ones can get u to 1 ft long and the bigger they get the stronger they get. If their punch happens to form a bubble underwater when the bubble pops it is as hot a the surface of the sun. If a human gets punched by one apparently it feels like being shot by a .22. They can easily fracture human bones. People do keep them as pets but they don't make that great of pets because they can shatter aquarium glass.
Now I don't feel like Alfred utilizes this strength very often but that being said I do fully believe he has the strength to punch a hole through someone's chest if he wanted to.
Let's just sort of break it down a little.
Alfred First Discovery:
Tumblr media
Has the ability with little to no effort to pick up a full grown bull bison and swing it over its head.
The weight of an average bull bison is 2000 lbs.
Alfred 1940's:
Tumblr media
Drug around England car with a single hand for over an hour because he simply wanted to drive it. Again this looks like a Ford model A of some kind and the typical weight for that kind of car in this time period was about 2,500 lbs. Mind you when America finally found England he was not out of breath or even sweating. This was just a regular Tuesday for him.
I think it is just something the Hetalia fandom doesn't really play off of much and everyone just kind of forgets that America is basically a superhero when it comes to strength. I think of him as having One Punch man level strength where he can be as strong as he needs to be for parody's sake.
______________________________________________
I have this theory that the reason that the cold war happened (I am talking Hetalia here not IRL) Is simply because America and Russia were bored. Because I firmly believe America is not alone in having this massive strength though his might be the most intense. I believe Russia has it as well.
We never 'see' it on screen we do get to hear about it from other nations and when Russia was late to a meeting he did tell America that he "Got a raw deal, I had to stop tanks with my bare hands" Everyone was surprised except except America who just said. "Dude that's sick". He wasn't impressed or afraid by it and simply was like "That's a cool way to spend the afternoon". Then in the same instance when they were acting like they were going to get in an actual fight both France and England had to separate then both seeming extremely concerned while doing so like they were trying to prevent a DBZ style fight.
The cold war was just trying to get the two of them not to get into a fist fight because everyone else was afraid what would happen if they did.
There are a couple others who are rumored to have this strength Sweden being one of them. I think Finland said there were a couple more but I can't remember who. Himaruya said before that Italy is extremely powerful but doesn't often show it because he's a 'coward' Now if we think about it, it would be true based on history. He has beaten a lot of powerful nations by himself. Turkey, Spain, Austria, Empire, France, His brother, Hungary-Austria and many others. Italy has historically won more wars than they have lost by a land slide. Epically after they were unified. They were damn near untouchable after that. In fact Italy has lost very few wars and a lot of wars they have fought have ended in a forfeit which there is nothing wrong with understanding when you've lost and throwing in the towel. It's stupider to keep fighting when you're continuing to lose.
_________________________________________________
People seem to think that the UK follows America into battle whenever they go but that's simply not the case if you look up American wars you will see a little green, white and red flag with us even when the UK and Canadian flag isn't there.
I know I'm rambling but I fully believe what I'm saying is true. Maybe starting my HFC poll is sparking it in me thinking just how strong they would actually be.

5 Of The Best Australian Muscle Cars Ever Built
While American muscle cars usually command the spotlight in terms of V8 vehicles, Australia also has its fair share of classics. We will delve into five of these classic vehicles which have stood the test of time. All of these vehicles are being shortlisted from a balance of collectability, performance, and general reputation.
1. Holden Monaro
The Holden Monaro is a legendary nameplate in the world of Australian muscle cars. Originally introduced in 1968, the Monaro quickly gained a reputation for its sleek design and formidable performance on the road and the racetrack. With powerful V8 engines under the hood and a timeless coupe silhouette, the Monaro captured the hearts of car enthusiasts across generations. Its iconic status was cemented with the release of modern iterations, including the Monaro VZ and the limited-edition Monaro CV8-Z.
2. Ford Falcon GT
The Ford Falcon GT is possibly the first Australian muscle car, depending on who you ask. The initial XR GT performance version housed a 4.7-liter, 289 ci V8 engine, with 68 and 71 eras having a 5.8-liter, 351 Cleveland V8 producing 300-350hp. The first Aussie-made version was the 1972 XA Falcon which came as a two-door coupe, with a top speed of 142 mph and a 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds. Over the years, the Falcon GT has evolved to become a symbol of Australian performance engineering, with each new generation pushing the boundaries of power and innovation. Models like the Falcon GT-HO Phase III have achieved legendary status among collectors and enthusiasts, Adding to the Falcon GT’s status.
3. Chrysler Valiant Charger
The Chrysler Valiant Charger was based on the Dodge Dart and Plymouth Valiant, but entirely Australian-made. With its long hood, short deck, and aggressive styling cues, the Valiant Charger stood out from the crowd and became a symbol of rebellion and freedom on the open road. Standout versions include the RT model with a 4.3-liter, 265 ci Hemi 6, producing 302 hp, with a 0 to 60 time of 6 seconds. For those wanting more luxury, the Charger 770 SE came with a 5.6-liter, 340-ci V8 and 275hp, Today, well-preserved Charger models are highly sought after by collectors, with the early 70s models being the most desirable.
4. HSV GTSR W1
Developed by Holden Special Vehicles (HSV), the HSV GTSR W1 is a limited-edition super sedan that pays homage to the classic muscle cars of yesteryear while incorporating the latest in automotive technology. With a supercharged V8 engine producing over 600 horsepower, advanced aerodynamics, and track-tuned suspension, the GTSR W1 is capable of tearing up the track with ease. Its aggressive styling and menacing presence make it an instant classic, destined to be remembered as one of the greatest Australian muscle cars.
5. Holden Sandman
American Australia had similar problems in the early 1970s. Huge distances to cover, while needing a vehicle to haul a decent amount of daily items. America solved a problem with the Chevrolet El Camino and the Ford Ranchero, while Australia came up with the ‘Ute.’ A regular muscle car upfront with a van at the back. The top version of the Sandman came with a 5.0-liter 308 engine, with a top speed of 125 mph. Standout features include the radial tuned suspension – leaf springs in the rear, coil springs for the front wheels to address the radial tires.

Retreat at Klinaklini
Decades of satellite images of western Canada make it clear that the region’s glaciers are shrinking and that the rate of ice loss is accelerating.
In 1984, there were 14,329 glaciers in British Columbia and Alberta that were large enough to detect with sensors on the Landsat 5 satellite. By 2020, nearly 8 percent of them—1,141 glaciers—had shrunk so much that newer Landsat sensors could no longer distinguish them, according to research conducted by University of Northern British Columbia glaciologists Alexandre Bevington and Brian Menounos.
“Clean” glaciers—those without much debris on them—went from losing an average of 49 square kilometers (19 square miles) per year between 1984 and 2010 to 340 square kilometers (130 square miles) per year between 2011 and 2020. In the same periods, the area spanned by water pooling at the ends of glaciers ballooned from about 9 square kilometers to 49 square kilometers (3 to 19 square miles).
The Klinaklini Glacier, the largest glacier in western North America outside of Alaska, is part of the shrinking trend. The Coast Range glacier, found in the south of British Columbia, flows southward from the flanks of Mount Silverthrone (2,864 meters) and Mount Somolenko (2,658 meters) into a forested valley roughly 300 meters above sea level.
The pair of images above shows how much Klinaklini has changed between September 26, 1984 (ltop), and September 22, 2023 (lower). During this period, the glacier’s terminus—sometimes called the snout or toe—retreated northward by more than 5 kilometers (3 miles). In 1984, just a small glacial lake was present at the terminus. By 2023, the lake had grown to 5 kilometers long and 2 kilometers wide. It is now large and deep enough that icebergs float freely in it. The photographs below, taken by Menounos from a helicopter, show the glacial lake and glacier in 2017.
Tumblr media
Klinaklini is also getting skinnier. Analysis of digital elevation models of the glacier derived from images acquired by the ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) on NASA’s Terra satellite shows that Klinaklini’s main stem thinned by nearly 200 meters between 2000 and 2019.
The meltwater that drains from the glacier flows first into the remote Klinaklini River, then into Knight Inlet and the Queen Charlotte Strait, and eventually into the Pacific Ocean. The contribution of this one glacier to sea level rise is tiny, but the collective impact of the world’s glaciers is important.
“If you take three or four decades of melt at a glacier in the Coast Range—even a big one like Klinaklini—the contribution to sea level rise is very small,” said Jeffrey VanLooy, a University of North Dakota glaciologist who analyzed changes at five icefields in southern British Columbia, including the Ha-Iltzuk Icefield that contains Klinaklini Glacier. “But this is a region where we’re talking about thousands of glaciers, and several icefields are experiencing changes similar to this. And the same thing is happening globally. All that melting starts to add up.”
According to one recent estimate, glaciers, excluding the ice sheets on Greenland and Antarctica, lost an average of 267 gigatons of mass per year between 2000 and 2019, equivalent to 21 percent of the observed sea level rise during that period.
VanLooy’s analysis of weather patterns found that rising temperatures and increases in rainfall, rather than snowfall, in the Ha-Iltzuk Icefield are fueling the ice losses. More recent analysis by researchers from the University of Northern British Columbia showed the warming pattern continued into the 2020s. “This is what climate change looks like,” said VanLooy.
Tumblr media
“The total sea level rise potential of the western North America glaciers—if they melted entirely—is only about 2.6 millimeters,” said Menounos. Other important contributors to sea level rise, aside from the melting of glaciers on land, include the melting of ice sheets in Antarctica and Greenland, the thermal expansion of sea water as it warms, and changes to how much water is stored on land. Projections made available by NASA’s Sea Level Change Team suggest that Port Hardy, a community 135 kilometers southwest of Klinaklini Glacier, will likely see about 8 millimeters of sea level rise by 2060 and 24 millimeters by 2100 under “middle-of-the-road” emissions scenarios.
“The melting of these glaciers also raises important water resource issues since they provide cool, plentiful water when seasonal snow has melted during times of sustained droughts—like we’re having now,” said Menounos. “Glacial meltwater is especially important for many fish-bearing rivers.”
The names of both the Klinaklini Glacier and Klinaklini River derive from the Kwak’wala word for eulachon grease, which is made from a small oily fish. Eulachon— sometimes called smelt, hooligan, oolichan, fathom fish, and salvation fish—have long been prized by First Nation communities because early spring spawning provides nutrition after long, cold winters.
While eulachon populations are considered stable in Alaska, more southerly populations in British Columbia and Washington state are threatened and moderately vulnerable to climate change, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. The hatching of eulachon eggs is tied to peak spring flows on rivers; changing precipitation patterns, reduced snowpack, or earlier snowmelt associated with climate change could affect the eulachon life cycle.

CRAFFEY: Death of the Working-Class Supercars
Tumblr media
Last week, after 19 years in production, the very last of the Chrysler/Dodge LX platform muscle cars rolled off the assembly line in Brampton, Ontario. After almost 4.4 million cars built, the legacy left by the automotive legends built on this platform will be felt for decades and generations to come. For car fans, the reasons to mourn the loss of these legends are obvious, but what their demise signals for working-class empowerment, freedom, and upward mobility, should concern all Americans.
So we’re all clear, the cars I’m talking about here are the mobster-looking Chrysler 300C, the muscle-wagon Dodge Magnum (which was made from 2005 to 2008), the badass Dodge Charger sedan, and perhaps the best modern interpretation of a classic retro car, the iconic Dodge Challenger. It’s not an overstatement to say that these vehicles changed the automotive landscape of this country, creating a whole new movement of diehard enthusiasts, and with it, these cars became part of our culture, our politics, and indeed our lives. When such automotive giants pass on to that big assembly line in the sky, I think it’s important to pour a quart of 5W-20 motor oil out in celebration of what they meant to so many of us. Sadly, they are not the only icons going away over the next year or two due to government regulations. More on that later…
I am admittedly biased in my affection for these cars. I have now owned six of these cars since 2006: five Chrysler 300C’s with the legendary Hemi V8 (a 2006, a 2008, a 2009, a 2011, and a 2015) and one 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT. I’m grateful to still own the 2015 Chrysler 300C Platinum and the 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT, and will proudly drive them as long as I am alive or as long as the government allows us to, whichever comes first. My dad fell in love with my Challenger the moment I took delivery at the dealership, so much so that he decided to order his own 2016 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 392 a few weeks later, which he still owns to this day. It’s definitely a special experience going to car shows together in our matching Mopars. My older brother even joined the “club” getting a 2016 Dodge Charger AWD Police Pursuit. The Hemi gene clearly runs strong in this family!
Tumblr media
Chrysler 300C
Enter the Chrysler 300C, which entered production in 2004 as a 2005 model. Developed with help and parts sharing from Chrysler’s corporate partner at the time, Mercedes, the 300C had a thoroughly modern platform and fully independent suspension, rear-wheel drive, a 340 horsepower V8 engine, and one of the coolest, almost concept-looking designs ever to come out of Detroit. There are a few memorable automotive launches in history. The Mustang is one, the VW Beetle is another, and then there was the home run that was the Chrysler 300.
Tumblr media
But what was most important was how it was received by the American car lover, and with them, it was a runaway hit. Chrysler couldn’t build them fast enough, selling more than twice as many as originally planned in their first two years, and it became not just a phenomenon in America, but also in Canada, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East. For the first time in decades, or perhaps ever, a person of middle-class means could afford a car with a similar performance, features, and gravitas that was previously only afforded to those with the means to purchase a BMW or Mercedes. Suddenly, the rest of the Big 3, Europe, Japan, and South Korea were scrambling to offer affordable rear-wheel-drive, V8 options to compete with the success of the 300, and for a window in time, rear-wheel-drive V8 cars became mainstream again! By sales and by heart though, the American “forgotten man” had already found his car, and it was a Chrysler!
These cars had become such a phenomenon that they spurred on several successful iterations on the same platform with available V8s, including the Dodge Magnum station wagon, the Dodge Charger sedan, and the retro-styled Dodge Challenger coupe. What made each of these cars successful is that the styling, interior, and feel of each was very different from the others so they didn’t negatively impact each other’s sales, and that they all unabashedly, proudly, and brashly, showcased chiseled, American muscle. But just as the models multiplied, the political and economic world began to change.
When the economy collapsed in 2008, the political Left came into power and quickly united around the concept that “green energy” was the way out of America’s economic quagmire and would also save the environment. It wasn’t and still isn’t. Remember the Obama Administration poured billions into failed “green” ventures like Soyndra during that era, and now the same thing is happening again under the Biden Administration with solar, and wind power, and subsidies for the unsold electric vehicles that are piling up on dealer lots. As presidential candidate Obama in 2008, he traded in his Chrysler 300 for a sad Ford Escape Hybrid. Car folk the world over yawned at this obvious display of virtue-signaling, and it was becoming clear that the rest of the political Left was now coming for the internal combustion engine, especially anything with a V8.
Hellcat
However -- and I really love this part -- in 2015, Dodge sensed there was still enough rebellion and independence left in the American spirit, that they decided to give a flying middle finger to that sentiment in the form of a loud, 707 horsepower, supercharged, Hellcat Hemi V8. To put those numbers in perspective, the Hellcat made the Charger the most powerful production sedan you could buy, at any price, anywhere in the world, yet it cost just under $60K. It produced numbers and fanfare on par with elite supercars, yet was also attainable for many middle-class and upper-middle-class car aficionados. To get a coupe on par with the Challenger Hellcat, you had to look at top-end Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and other exotics that cost $250K or more. In its final 2023 iteration, the Challenger Hellcat 170 became the world's fastest production car in history, doing a 0-60 in 1.66 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 8.9 seconds.
The Hellcats completely redefined the definition of what “powerful” was, and like the 300 before them, they became the leading automotive and cultural icons of their era. Most importantly, they enabled the forgotten man to be able to own and enjoy cars as special and powerful as their far wealthier neighbors. The sound, the timeless design, and the sales reflected this seachange, with the Dodge Challenger consistently outselling the Ford Mustang in recent years, coinciding with its repositioning as being more of a sports car than a true muscle car like the Challenger. But of course, this automotive love affair did not sit well with the wealthy elite who seem to believe this sort of power and passion should only be reserved for them, while the rest of us are relegated to driving a far more “responsible” Prius or a fully-electric vehicle.
As late as 2020, there were plans for a next generation of Dodge Charger and Challenger, and 300, with internal combustion V8s and rear wheel drive. Clearly, the boys at Dodge were banking on a different election outcome that year, but no one was prepared for just how extreme the fuel economy and “green” mandates of the Biden Administration would be. Once it became clear how aggressive this administration would be, the 2025 and beyond regulations appear to have forced Stellantis, the current owner of Dodge and Chrysler, to scrap those plans and go all in on fully electric and possibly downsized internal combustion/hybrid options for their muscle cars. It's not an overstatement to say the general consensus among current Chrysler/Dodge owners varies from depression to outrage. The cars that we love, these special beasts that made owning that pinup poster fantasy finally attainable, are once again being taken from us, not because of sales or the free market, but because the “government knows best."
Goodbye to V8 Engines?
Perhaps you aren’t a particular fan of these LX cars, and you think their demise is just an outlier. Well, for Chevrolet Camaro fans, the last V8 Camaro also just rolled off the assembly line. The last year for the Ram truck before it loses a V8 option is 2024, and the same for the Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Jeep Grand Wagoneer. On the slightly more expensive side, V8s have been removed from the Mercedes C63 and E63, and the Toyota Land Cruiser; 2024 will be the last year for any Jaguar with a V8. Lastly, the phenomenal Cadillac CT5 V-Blackwing, with its supercharged 6.2 liter V8, will be the last performance V8 that Cadillac ever offers, or at least, so they say. My guess is that 2025 will be the last year for these majestic sedans.
Meanwhile, EVs are not selling at all as originally predicted and why wouldn’t they? People do not like being told what to buy, much less being forced into it. Ford and many others have cut their sales projections in half and dealers are having to sell these vehicles at a loss just to move them as it costs much more to make an electric car than an equivalent gas-powered vehicle. As a result, I predict over the coming years that more than a few long-time automakers will go out of business trying to adhere to EV government regulations by spending billions of dollars to transition their platforms and infrastructure to this new technology, only to have the market decide they still prefer some sort of gas-powered option over full-EV. Meanwhile, the “old-school” Dodge Charger, Challenger, and 300 were still selling in near-record numbers right up to the end and were highly profitable for both the dealers and Stellantis. In their absence, sales are already starting to decline at Stellantis, leading to cuts in marketing and other areas, putting its future at risk.
So yes, the loss of these cars is individually significant, but what it reflects on a larger macro level is even far more impactful; the death of American working-class empowerment, their attainable dreams, and their freedom to live their life how THEY see fit. It’s not just our cars this administration and like-minded Progressives have been taking away. It’s our gas stoves, it’s our lawnmowers, and it's our ability to even water our lawns. It’s gas leaf-blowers, and single-family zoning, and on and on. It may start with taking our V8s, but it will almost certainly end in a far darker place unless the dominant political climate changes, pun intended.

[ad_1] Satechi has announced a charger with some attention-grabbing specifications: it has 4 USB-C ports in a position to supplying 165 watts of energy without delay, and it'll promote for $120. It’s in a position to pumping out 100W of energy for a unmarried tool and will even do this whilst charging one or two different units, relying at the energy they draw. That’s spectacular, for the reason that the 120W Anker brick we wrote about last month (which additionally had 4 ports) wasn’t in a position to doing the similar — it might best price at a 60W / 30W / 20W break up, the place the Satechi can do 100W / 30W / 30W. It may additionally supply two units with 60W and provides the 3rd 45W if you happen to’re extra into charging a couple of lighter-weight computer systems at a time — as an example, perhaps a 13-inch MacBook Professional, a Chromebook, and a MacBook Air. The again of the charger lays out the more than a few configurations you'll be able to use it in. Symbol: Satechi That 100W charging will cross away if you happen to hook up 4 units, despite the fact that — from there, it’ll drop to placing out 60W / 45W / 30W / 30W. Nonetheless, that’s now not dangerous for a tool that weighs 12 oz. (or round 340 grams), in keeping with its spec sheet. If you happen to’re one to hold numerous USB-C units with you whilst touring, the Satechi may well be a great way to price all of them up without delay with no need to juggle more than one bricks and retailers. All that juice is excellent and the whole lot, however my favourite characteristic must be the little stand that includes it to carry it upright on a table. No longer best wouldn't it make the charger more straightforward to make use of as a house charging station, however it additionally makes it seem like a lovely little robotic (no less than to my eyes). It might also lend a hand with uninteresting such things as cable control, retaining the removable charging cable clear of the as much as 4 USB-C cables popping out from the entrance. Satechi’s actually made this charger stand out. Symbol: Satechi The charger is available to preorder on Satechi’s website for $120, however the corporate says you'll be able to get 20 % off via the use of the code “CES20” till January thirteenth, bringing the associated fee right down to $96 sooner than any acceptable taxes and delivery. Consistent with the product web page, america model will send via January 14th. If you happen to don’t want moderately as a lot energy and portage, Satechi sells a 66W three USB-C port charger for $55. Anker also announced a $79 100W charger with two USB-C ports and one USB-A port at CES, claiming that it’ll be the “global’s smallest 100W gallium nitride wall charger.” [ad_2] #Satechis #charger #165W #ports #lovely #stand

1953 Ferrari 375 MM - Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena, Italy Ferrari 375 Mille Miglia carried on the Ferrari tradition of naming sports models after the famous Italian road race and was a spin-off of the F1 single-seater, just like its sister car, the 375 America, which was the GT equivalent. The engine was based on its F1 counterpart, albeit with a new crankshaft giving a shorter, 68 mm stroke but with a bigger bore for a larger, 4.5-litre displacement. The engine debuted in a 340 Berlinetta at Le Mans where it was driven by Ascari and Villoresi. Subsequently Pininfarina built a series of around 10 spiders and a few berlinettas which were mainly fielded by privateers. A total of 26 examples were built including four converted examples of the 340 MM. 375 MM raced in the Carrera Panamericana, though with limited success. A fourth place in 1953 and a second place in 1954. Of course, there were victories such as in the 24 Hours of Spa and the 12 Hours of Casablanca. The 1000km race at the Nürburgring with Giuseppe Farina as pilot also skewed the 375 MM’s record. King of the Ferrari Driving Playboys and a well-known diplomat in the jet set, Porfirio Rubirosa, also owned 375 MM and his girlfriend of the time, Zsa Zsa Gabor, the Hungarian actress (also known for having had nine husbands), never missed an opportunity to enthusiastically pose in the cockpit of the 375 MM. Blue Blood - Larry's 1958 Chrysler 300D
Chrysler's 1958 300 D strikes all of the right late-1950s chords: quad headlamps, gaping egg-crate grille, thundering V-8 power and towering tailfins. Yet the 300 kept its sporting composure by eschewing broad swaths of side trim molding and tri-color paint schemes, which in turn has helped its styling endure, decade after decade.
Today these Hemi-powered cruisers are as unusual as they are striking: For '58, just 618 hardtops and 191 convertibles were built to roam America's freshly paved postwar highways. The 300 series Chryslers have always been special and valuable cars among their admirers (even those vintages that weren't all that special) and the success of the modern Chrysler 300 has probably made the series recognizable to a wider audience. But while you can point to certain areas of the hobby, European sports cars, for instance, and wonder if a bubble is about to burst, 1950s American car values have remained stable over the past decade.
The 300's story begins with the C-300, a gorgeous two-door hardtop wearing Virgil Exner's "Forward Look" design--solid lifters, two Carter WFB 550-cfm carburetors, 8.5:1 compression--and which guaranteed the 300 horses promised by the badges on the grille and trunk lid. Just 1,725 of these 4,005-pound coupes were produced, and they sold for more than $4,000 each--about double the price of a new '55 Plymouth Savoy.
For 1956, Chrysler rolled out the 300 B, looking very similar to the '55, but with more pronounced tailfins and a harder-hitting Hemi engine. For the new model year, the big V-8 had grown to 354-cu.in. and belted out 340 hp in base trim or 355 hp with an optional factory tune-up. The car had also gained 12-volt electricals.
An all new 300 C emerged for 1957, demonstrating that Exner's Forward Look had gained a lot of ground. The boldly styled car rode on an all-new chassis with torsion bar front suspension and was powered by a 392-cu.in. Hemi, with 375 hp in base tune. With 10:1 compression and a more aggressive camshaft, the Hemi could pump out 390 hp.
The 1958 300 D would be the last of the series to use the 392, but the base engine got a boost to 380 hp. An electronic fuel-injection system, the Bendix Electrojector, was introduced for the 390-hp Hemi, but was recalled by Chrysler and replaced with the conventional two-four intake and carburetors.

According to United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), autonomous ships, drones, and various blockchain applications with the help of IT are driving the demand for solutions related to logistics management. Digitization has hugely improved the efficiencies of shipping companies by enabling the integration of artificial intelligence technologies, blockchain, Internet of Things, and robotics with shipping models. The growing dependence on IT and adoption of IT technologies is driving the growth of the cross docking services market.
Moreover, shipping companies are more focused on customer satisfaction and customer engagement. Client retention is the key to grow fast and to gain a competitive edge compared to other players. Client focus is crucial in the marine freight industry as it is a service industry where client responsiveness and intangible assets need to be measured and appropriate steps need to be taken. For instance, in July 2017, Maersk launched a remote container management program for customers, which would provide location and tracking of refrigerated containers throughout its journey. Such programs and solutions are designed due to increased importance of client retention and customer satisfaction.
Digitization has enhanced transparency and enabled better response to customer needs, which could help shipping companies to cater more appropriately to customer needs. Medium competition in the market and the growing importance of customer satisfaction is expected to drive the cross docking services market.

Facts matter and misinformation can have devastating real-world impacts. This is as true in the African bush as it is in the U.S. Capitol. That is why we are deeply concerned when we read overt misinformation about trophy hunting, such as in the opinion pieces by photographer Cyril Christo.
Trophy hunting is an emotive and polarizing issue ripe for misinformation. Much of the discussion on both sides occurs in echo chambers, where falsehoods and half-truths are shared and perpetuated. Misinformation can eventually make its way into policy debates as it has in Congress, the California Legislature, and the UK Parliament. Just as with anti-vaccine falsehoods and climate change denial, these misinformation campaigns must be called out for the significant harm they do. As the scientist Kelvin Peh stated so well: "Truth not only continues to matter; it remains the biggest weapon and shield for all wildlife conservationists and environmental scientists in a world of increasingly wanton, politically-motivated myth-making."
There are many statements in Mr. Christo’s contributions which could be debated, but three central (and common) misconceptions stand out. These are not unique to Mr. Christo’s articles: these misconceptions are commonly spread by anti-trophy hunting campaign groups. Such misinformation must be tackled so that policymakers can be better informed.
The first is the idea that trophy hunting is driving species to extinction. Decades of published, scientific research and field experience show this is demonstrably false. There is not, as far as we can tell, a single species where trophy hunting is listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List as a key threat driving it to extinction. Humane Society International, an organization that campaigns against trophy hunting, listed the top 20 species imported by American trophy hunters (the bulk of international hunters). If that hunting was intensifying decline, it would be a major concern in a world that has lost over two-thirds of its vertebrate wildlife since 1970. However, far from hunting driving those species to extinction, nine of the 20 are increasing in numbers and 6 are stable. Eighteen are ranked as "Least Concern" by the IUCN, with the other two "Near Threatened:" so none are threatened species. For four of the 20, including one of the "Near Threatened" ones, trophy hunting is identified by the IUCN as a positive instrument in their conservation, and is implied for a further three species. None of the 20 have trophy hunting documented as a threat to their populations. These facts matter.
Trophy hunting can be successful at conserving wildlife because it provides the economic incentive to conserve large tracts of wildlife habitat where there are few or no alternative funding sources. This helps maintain species, including lions, which can threaten the lives and livelihoods of rural people. One seminal study documented at least 340 million acres conserved by trophy hunting across sub-Saharan Africa: more land than has been set aside for National Parks, where photo tourism is concentrated. Furthermore, there are clear examples where trophy hunting has benefited the conservation of wildlife, including elephants, lions, rhinos, buffalo, argali and many others. These examples are well documented, including in an IUCN Briefing Paper, the academic literature and a US Congress report. Again, these facts matter.
By incentivizing the conservation of wildlife habitat and the maintenance of dangerous species, trophy hunting can play an important role in reducing far greater threats such as habitat loss and poaching. This conservation benefit is particularly significant given that IPBES highlighted land use change as the primary driver of massive global biodiversity loss. This is why over 130 scientists and local stakeholders, including Chairs of multiple IUCN Specialist Groups, signed a 2019 letter in Science, warning that banning trophy hunting without viable alternatives ready would imperil biodiversity.
The second theme of the misinformation campaign is the false equivalence between trophy hunting and poaching. Trophy hunting differs from poaching as much as shopping differs from shoplifting. In both cases, the former is legal, regulated and generates wider benefits. Conversely, because poaching is illegal and unregulated, it is often indiscriminate, kills many non-target species and plays a key role in wildlife decline.
Oddly, the "evidence" that has been cited for poaching being linked to trophy hunting is that they can occur in the same area, such as in Tanzania’s Selous Game Reserve, which has undoubtedly suffered severe poaching. But recent data from South Africa’s Kruger National Park, one of the most popular photo tourism destinations in Africa, showed that rhino numbers fell by 67 percent since 2011. Does this mean that "where photo-tourism is allowed, poaching follows?" Should photo-tourism be banned, in Kruger or more widely, especially as most African protected areas maintain wildlife far below carrying capacity, due to threats such as poaching?
The sensible answer is no; whether managed for photo-tourism and/or trophy hunting, most African protected areas are woefully under-funded, so removing either one of those key revenue streams without adequate replacement would only exacerbate those threats. For example, in Tanzania’s Ruaha landscape — internationally important for lions and many other species — it is indeed likely that lions are in decline. However, as with many other landscapes, far more lions around Ruaha are speared, snared and poisoned than are killed by trophy hunters. An exaggerated focus on trophy hunting simply draws attention away from the real threats such as intense human wildlife conflict, or the disempowerment of local people in conservation. This is of real concern.
Clearly, trophy hunting has huge impacts for the individual, and in some cases can negatively impact populations, such as with lions in Hwange or Selous. But in Africa just as in the U.S., the science exists that can, and does, underpin sustainable trophy hunting. This includes age-based adaptive quotas and targeted actions such as quota reductions or time-limited moratoria for some species. Poor governance, including corruption, and poor design of and adherence to regulations, can doubtless have real impacts on wildlife in trophy hunting areas, and the same is true for photo-tourism areas.
The key question however is whether removing trophy hunting in an area would ultimately decrease overall threats. Currently, it is unlikely to be the case. Indiscriminate bans, without better alternatives to replace incentives from high-fee trophy hunting to maintain wildlife and habitat, risk significantly amplifying major threats such as poaching and land conversion.
The third, and crucial, topic where we often see misinformation is around trophy hunting and colonialism. Much of the current conservation model – including land set aside for both photo-tourism and trophy hunting – has deep colonial underpinnings, and this must be understood and acknowledged. But that makes it ever more important that today, the post-colonial decision-making and rights of African countries and communities are respected. Westerners must not continue to externally impose their own ideals upon Africans, such as pushing trophy hunting bans and restrictions, where local communities warn they are directly undermining both successful conservation and human rights.
What is all too rarely recognized is that Africans themselves have long realized the failure of conservation models, and have in many places reversed them. At the core of these new African-invented wildlife conservation models is the principle that legal rights should be given back to local people to sustainably use their wildlife. These rights, the global markets that add so much value to a uniquely African product, and the democratic awakening associated with them should not be undermined because utilization offends people elsewhere. Let the communities that live with wildlife be the ones to decide whether the benefits they receive from trophy hunting are meaningful — as many have. Recently, the Community Leaders Network of Southern Africa made a powerful statement on this very topic. Tired of getting a raw deal, rural African communities are demanding a new deal in which they are shareholders (not disempowered stakeholders) in their own wildlife resource. Thus, externally imposed bans, including import bans, undermine not only the foundations of sustainable wildlife management but also of human rights.

August 17, 2020: King Felipe and Queen Letizia visited the Island of Ibiza. They visited the Puig des Molins Monographic Museum/Necropolis and took a walk through the old town and Paseo de la Mar in the town of Sant Antoni de Portmany.
Don Felipe and Doña Letizia they arrived at the Puig des Molins Necropolis and Monographic Museum in Eivissa, accompanied by the president of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol; the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto; and by a delegate of the Government in the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands, Ana María Calvo and they were received by the president of the Ibiza Island Council, Vicent Marí Torres; the first deputy mayor, councilor for Urbanism, Public Roads and Sports of the Ibiza Town Hall, Elena López; the Ministry of the Presidency, Culture and Equality of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Pilar Costa; and by the deputy director and curator of the Puig des Molins Museum, María Bofill.
Next, they were able to see a general presentation of the museum in front of a model and through an audiovisual presentation and began the visit outside, in the Phoenician-Punic burial chambers of the hypogeum of La Mula, and from a viewpoint they observed the necropolis. Inside, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia toured the different rooms, in which important archaeological remains of funeral, Phoenician, Punic and Roman-era rituals are preserved and exhibited.
Puig des Moulins is the best preserved necropolis in the Mediterranean, and the largest and best preserved in the world. Home of the goddess Tania, it was the cemetery of the Cities of Ibiza during the entire period of antiquity.
It is located about 500 meters west of Puig de Vila, in the same place where the city has been located since its foundation by Phoenicians at the end of the 7th century BC Its name derives from the windmills that dominated its summit from at least the fifteenth century, currently in disuse, and of which today only some of them remain. The poet Rafael Alberti and his wife Mª Teresa León lived in one of these mills during their stay on the island in July 1936, just when the Spanish Civil War broke out.
The initial cemetery, established at the end of the 7th century BC by the Phoenicians, occupied a specific area in the lower part of the hillside and experienced enormous growth due to the development of the city in Punic and Roman times.
Later, the land was used for agricultural use, the slope was divided into terraces where olive, almond, carob and fig trees were planted, together with the windmills. Currently, the hillside is part of the Archaeological Museum of Eivissa and Formentera. The mountain is covered by a thick layer of shrub vegetation and it is estimated that only counting the tombs of the Punic period, the hypogea, there are about 3,000. Of the entire labyrinth of tombs, only 340 are visible from the outside. Most of them belong to the Punic period and are excavated in the rock, although only the so-called hypogea of the mule are visited, which were found by chance in 1946.
After the visit to Puig des Molins, Their Majesties the Kings moved to Sant Antoni de Portmany and were received by their mayor, Marcos Serra, and began a tour of the historic center of the town. On the Paseo Marítimo, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia passed by the monument honoring the discovery of America and the stalls of handicraft items on the Paseo de las Fuentes; they visited the Church of San Antonio and greeted its parish priest, Francesc Xavier Torres, and before the church there was a performance of local folklore. They continued their walking tour through the Ancha and del Progreso streets and on the Paseo de la Mar, the Kings received the greetings of the members of the Sant Antoni municipal corporation and other of the main municipalities of the island; the mayor of Santa Eulária des Riu, Carmen Ferrer, and the mayors of Sant Josep de sa Talaia and Sant Joan de Labritja, José Marí Ribas and Antonio Marí Marí, respectively. The Kings held a meeting on the dock with the heads of the Fishermen's Guild, thus ending their visit to Ibiza.

God’s Mayor in Guatemala
Dale Hanson Bourke, CT, Sept. 2018
In the so-called Northern Triangle of Central America, the countries of Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala form a violent triad. The murder rate is higher in this region than in most active war zones. Gangs, cartels, and vigilantes impose their will, taking over or co-opting legitimate police forces and routinely terrorizing average citizens. A recent study identified 54 separate criminal groups in Guatemala alone. For many citizens of this region, fleeing north through Mexico to the US border is a less risky proposition than dealing with daily life in their hometown.
In the middle of this violence sits the town of San Cristóbal Acasaguastlán, a picturesque oasis of calm with a population of about 6,000 people. What sets this place apart are the efforts of Jeaneth Ordoñez, the Christian mayor who has united the townspeople in their quest to keep the municipality free of the violence and upheaval that surrounds them.
“This is a very special place,” says Eduardo Gallo, a Cuban-born medical doctor whom Ordoñez brought to town to help with health care. “We have the opportunity to improve people’s lives and to do it with love. The mayor has created a remarkable environment.”
Ordoñez’s motivation to protect and provide for her people comes directly from her faith. “God has put me in this place and given me a love and desire to serve my people and make their lives better,” she says. “I have faith in God and I love the people.”
About two hours outside of Guatemala City, the municipality encompasses a small town and a large rural area where high unemployment means poverty is all too common, as it is throughout the country. But Ordoñez casts a big vision and has already made huge strides in improving health, education, sanitation, and clean water.
San Cristóbal Acasaguastlán is the only town in Guatemala with 100 percent literacy. Edna Galicia, a local teacher, reports that “many families here are living in poverty, but they know education is important so they make it a priority for their children.”
On the health front, the mayor convinced Gallo to come for a year to help set up a more effective health care system. (When his contract ended, he chose to stay on.) San Cristóbal Acasaguastlán was also recently chosen as a pilot site for a Pediatric Antibiotic Initiative, a partnership between MAP International and Food for the Poor that supplies free pediatric antibiotics to patients in need.
Mayor Jeaneth, as she prefers to be called, regularly walks around town and is embraced by young and old as she stops to listen to a story or a request from one of her citizens. “I know most of the people and they know me. We are building a better life together.”
When asked how she works so tirelessly, she says simply, “God gives me the strength.”
Of the 340 mayors in Guatemala, Ordoñez is one of just 11 women. In the male-dominated culture of her country, many women to this day must ask their husband’s permission to leave home or allow visitors to enter, so her female leadership stands out. “As a woman, I have passion and capacity to see the needs of people,” says Ordoñez. “But I know I have to work extra hard because there are many who expect a woman to fail at doing a job that is traditionally a man’s.”
As a young adult, Ordoñez had ambitions to leave her small town behind and head to the capital of Guatemala City. But, as she says now with a big smile, “God had his plans.” After leaving San Cristóbal Acasaguastlán, she attended university and then worked in business. After some years, she felt drawn back to her hometown by the tranquility of life there and by her family. When she returned, she also met a man named Samuel Arroyo, who had grown up in a town nearby but came to San Cristóbal Acasaguastlán to teach.
Twenty-five years later, Arroyo now works alongside his wife, helping implement her initiatives and supporting her in every way. “God has given us this platform to help people and to fight injustice,” he says. “It’s a privilege to help my wife and to serve God this way.”
Ordoñez’s road to the mayor’s office was itself an act of God, she says. While pregnant with her third child, she lost her sight. “I had swelling that put pressure on my optic nerve and took away my sight. When the people of the town heard about my condition, they came to pray for me.
“The outpouring of love and support was so great that I was overwhelmed. I vowed to find a way to give back to the people,” says Ordoñez.
After delivering her baby, her sight was mostly restored and she took a job in the municipal government. “I simply wanted to help the people of my town. I had no intention of trying to become mayor.”
In 2007, when the current mayor of the town was running for re-election, she helped lead his campaign. Weeks before the election, he was murdered while visiting a nearby town.
“We were all devastated,” says Ordoñez. “And then I was shocked because the people of San Cristóbal Acasaguastlán asked me to become the candidate. Samuel and I prayed and thought about it, knowing it was not an easy job and it was also dangerous. We knew our lives would change forever if we said yes.”
Ordoñez agreed to run for office and the people elected her with an overwhelming vote.
After being elected, then re-elected, she has implemented various initiatives to help the townspeople and also to draw interest from tourists and outside business. “Unemployment continues to be a challenge,” she admits.
Security also poses a significant challenge. Being a mayor of any town in Guatemala means being the target of criminal factions and cartels that are constantly vying for control of the region. In San Cristóbal Acasaguastlán, Ordoñez and her husband have had their house sprayed with bullets. She now walks around town with an armed security team and admits that her life is often in danger.
The US Embassy in Guatemala has helped by supporting a model police precinct and providing security cameras at the entrance and throughout the city as part of the US State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
For Mayor Jeaneth, the help from outside organizations is “an amazing blessing” for which “we are so very grateful.” But she emphasizes that she and the citizens of San Cristóbal Acasaguastlán know that their ultimate support comes from God.
“If we are a success, it is because we bend our knees to God and he has blessed us,” she says. “We must never forget that he is the source of all good things.”
