Read in 2019 - The Monster of Elendhaven (Jennifer Giesbrecht)
★★★★☆
Power was sweeter than apples. It was cheaper than water, and sustained the soul twice as well. If Johann was going to be a Thing with a name, then from now on he would be a Thing with power, too.

“Dead Witch on a Bridge” by Gretchen Galway
I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley for me to provide an honest review.
And boy, this is one of the books I'm SO grateful I found via NetGalley!
"Dead Witch on a Bridge" was as fun and quirky as the title of this first book of a new series.
The main character Alma was smart, funny, and feisty despite struggling with her own past- exactly what I love my heroines to be.
This was the first work of this author I've read and I found it very comfortable to ease into the narrative voice and let myself be drawn into this magical world. The world-building was elegantly done and the characters were well-rounded and held my interest througout the novel.
The combination of genres worked very well and the author beautifully interlaced the magical setting of her world with the murder mystery elements. I am a great lover of murder mysteries, and this magical crime novel had a lot of fresh, fun ideas which made reading "Dead Witch on a Bridge" a true delight.
Definitely a book to recommend to my friends and fellow readers!

The Madness Vase (2011) by Andrea Gibson
[Maybe I Need You]
Love, isn't always magic
Sometimes its just melting
Or its black and blue
Where it hurts the most.
Maybe I need you the way that big moon needs that open sea,
Maybe I didn't even know I was here, 'til I saw you holding me.
[I Sing The Body Electric, Especially When The Power Is Out]
I started talking to the stars instead.
I said, "Tell me about the big bang."
The stars said, "It hurts to become."

books read in 2019: circe by madeline miller
“I felt the currents move. The grains of sand whispered against each other. His wings were lifting. The darkness around us shimmered with clouds of his gilded blood. Beneath my feet were the bones of a thousand years. I thought: I cannot bear this world a moment longer.
Then, child, make another.”

The end of 2019 marks the end of my year of literary rediscovery! ☺️ Over the past year I’ve been able to read a total of 50 books, 10 More than what my original goal was! It’s been a very enlightening and educational year of self reflection, discovery and certainly something I wish to continue to do coming into 2020 and beyond. It’s been an incredibly relaxing and joyful holidays with friends and family, but I’m looking forward to getting back into routine, moving into my new place, and starting my new position! 🍻 That being said, December’s haul included the next book in the adventures of Ensign Richard Sharpe, A book on the fulfilment that comes with the pursuit of goals and not just the accomplishment of them, the classic book on financial literacy as told through the perspective of a money savvy barber, the detailed account of the British Royal Marines 45 Commando’s involvement in the Falklands War, and finally the biographical/anecdotal thoughts on leadership from arguably the best General to come out the last half century, the Warrior Monk Jim Mattis. #bookstagram #decemberreads #bernardcornwell #sharpesfortress #chrisguillebeau #thehappinessofpursuit #davidchilton #thewealthybarber #iangardiner #theyompers #callsignchaos #jamesmattis #2019reads #2020reads #PEI #confederationbridge (at Confederation Bridge) https://www.instagram.com/p/B61H-WCJ-q8/?igshid=tr1w53qv053q
