JACK THE GIANT KILLER
originally this was a kind of personal visual vibe test: I'm still turning some thoughts around about jack in my head (altho I have finished assembling the skeleton of a story and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens when I start to press at it) but I really liked how it turned out so I'm posting it as it's own illustration :)
the first post about this idea is over here, but I've fine tuned it down a bit so that the story begins with jack finding the body of a giant while he's out in the woods one day, and the story spirals out of hand before he can stop it.
it's been interesting to read up on jack tales from a literary analysis point of view while I figure this story out!! and through the power of more coffee, I think. I'm close to pinning down an underlying theme I'd really like to bite into. I just need to condense it down to a couple of sentences instead of several paragraphs.

Happy yearly "I pull out a Homestuck cosplay photo from the vault" day! This year's cosplay is my first HS cosplay and 3rd overall costume, Karkat.
Homestuck was a HUGE part of my con-going experience when I was starting out in the early 2010s. Tumblr was a big fandom hub at the time and you couldn't go a day without finding a good ol' horn or armsock tutorial on a cosplay ressource blog, so it really kickstarted my love for the hobby proper.
It made cosplay accessible, imo. There were so many goddamn characters to pick from and the base outfits were so simple that assembling a HS costume made for a friendly introduction to the hobby! I remember picking Karkat partially because out of my favorite trolls he had long sleeves and making armsocks was scary at the time lol
And the fandom! Homestuck cosplayers were basically everywhere and you couldn't take a few steps without encountering another fan to nerd out with. It had a big community feel that I haven't seen occur since in conventions, at least not to that scale.
I'm getting nostalgic here so I'll cut it short, but I have fond memories of the fandom at the time and Homestuck has been a really important step in my cosplay journey.

I thought doing this meme would help me draw and that visually seeing how my style changed would make me feel good.

PIBBINS.... cheering clapping hooting hollering glorious applause everytime I see a pigeon in public#2. so i saw panic in 2016 (yeah yeah but in my defense the lawn tix were like $20) and i was looking at the setlist for the show yesterday bc i was talking to my friend about it and he did mona lisa which i have no memory of it but that’s my FAVORITE panic song and so i went through the videos i took that night and i did record some of it and i got so excited
