Chapter One
Hi guys! Welcome! I feel like it's only appropriate to start this blog off with some skin care. However today we aren't going to just talk about products because before we can decide what's best for your skin we need to know your skin type. There are three major skin types, oily skin, dry skin and combination skin. Some might say that acne prone skin is another type but that's up to debate. Oily skin can be described as skin that secretes an excessive amount of the body’s natural oils. Dry skin is the complete opposite of that because it secretes little to no natural oils leaving the skin very dry. Combination skin is a combination of the two skin types meaning some parts of the skin are oily (usually the t-zone) and some parts are dry (usually the side of your cheeks).
My oily|combination skin tips;
Any product with high amounts of niacinamide and salicylic acid works wonders for your oily skin.
Make sure to wash your face both day and night.
Stick to a proper skincare routine.
Use fragrance free products.
Drink lots of water.
Try your best to avoid oily foods in your diet.
My dry skin tips;
Wash your face once a day preferably at night only.
Try to stay away from stripping cleansers and bar soap cleansers.
Incorporate products with hyaluronic acid , ceramides and glycerin into your skin care.
Use a moisturizing cream and not moisturizing lotion.
Drink lots of water
Try to keep a fresh diet
Stick to your skincare routine
How to apply your skincare in order.
Cleanser- You should always start your routine with a clean base. So picking a cleanser that's suitable for your skin type is important because that's the first line of action in your routine. For the dry skin girlies as I recommended, only wash your face at night so in the morning to achieve that clean base you can cleanse with micellar water and a cotton pad.
Toner- Toner removes any last traces of dirt, grime and impurities stuck in your pores after you wash your face. When added to your daily skincare routine and used regularly, it can have a major positive impact on the appearance and tightness of your pores. Be keen to look at the ingredients before picking a toner that's suitable for your skin. Remember to pick ingredients that will help your skin and achieve your desired goal of clean skin.
Serums- Your next step should consist of serums. Now it is important to note which serums are to be used at which time. For example a serum containing high amounts of retinol should be used at night only. In your serums is where you can really incorporate the elements needed to help your skin. I will do another post talking about the best brands and products containing the best ingredients for your skin type but for now we can look and use what we can.
Eye-cream- Eye-cream is a very controversial step. A lot of people argue that it's unnecessary or that it doesn't work. Personally, I love it and think it works wonders for the puffiness under my eyes. As a university student this has become very helpful in trying to hide my lack of sleep.
Moisturizer- This is supposedly the last step. Well at night that is. Again the selection of this product should vary on the type of skin you have.
Sunscreen- Sunscreen should be the last thing you apply in your routine. It should be applied 15 minutes before contact with sunlight. I don't think I have to stress on how important sunscreen is. Picking a sunscreen however can be tricky. Some people tend to need higher levels of spf in order to be protected while others can use lower levels and still be fine. I say use the highest available to you if you don't know what level you need. There's no harm in it and you are sure you are protected.
Bonus face masks- Face masks aren't a part of your everyday skincare routine but it should be a part of your overall routine. A face mask to exfoliate should be added to your routine and it should be done at least once and week. Exfoliation should not be done everyday as it can be very harmful to the skin's barrier. A mask for hydration should also be added to your routine to be done at least once a week.
Tumblr media
I hope you learnt a lot in today's post. That's all for this week. Be sure to join me next Friday for a lesson on haircare. Have a wonderful week and be sure to stay hydrated. Thank you for reading!
Here is a song to help set the mood for your routine.

Face Whitening Treatments: Achieve Radiant and Glowing Skin
In today’s world, where appearances often play a significant role in one's confidence, having clear and radiant skin is a common desire. Despite the vast array of skincare products available, finding the right treatment for face whitening can be overwhelming. Fear not! We've got you covered. In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into various face whitening treatments, providing you with all the necessary information to make an informed decision and achieve the glowing skin you desire.
Understanding Skin Pigmentation
What is Skin Pigmentation?
Skin pigmentation refers to the natural color of the skin. It is determined by the amount of melanin produced by the body. Melanin is a pigment that gives skin its color. Higher melanin levels result in darker skin, while lower levels result in lighter skin.
Types of Skin Pigmentation
Hyperpigmentation: This occurs when the body produces excess melanin, resulting in darker patches on the skin.
Hypopigmentation: This occurs when there is a decrease in melanin production, leading to lighter patches on the skin.
Melasma: A common skin condition where brown to gray-brown patches appear, primarily on the face.

Home Remedies for Face Whitening
Can Home Remedies Lighten Your Skin?
Yes! Several home remedies can help lighten and brighten your skin. These natural remedies are not only effective but also safe and budget-friendly.
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is a natural bleaching agent that can lighten dark spots and even out skin tone. Apply freshly squeezed lemon juice to your face and leave it on for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off.
Turmeric
Turmeric has natural skin-lightening properties and can help reduce melanin production. Mix turmeric powder with honey or yogurt to make a paste. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera gel is known for its skin-soothing and lightening properties. Apply fresh aloe vera gel to your face and leave it on overnight for best results.
Over-the-Counter (OTC) Products
Are Over-the-Counter Products Effective for Face Whitening?
Yes! Over-the-counter products can be effective for face whitening, especially when used consistently over time.
Vitamin C Serums
Vitamin C serums are rich in antioxidants and can help brighten and even out skin tone. Apply a few drops of vitamin C serum to your face daily for best results.
Niacinamide Creams
Niacinamide creams are effective in reducing hyperpigmentation and improving overall skin texture. Apply niacinamide cream to your face twice daily for maximum benefit.
Alpha Arbutin Lotions
Alpha arbutin lotions inhibit melanin production, making them effective in reducing dark spots and pigmentation. Apply alpha arbutin lotion to your face daily for best results.
Professional Treatments
When Should You Consider Professional Treatments?
If home remedies and over-the-counter products fail to provide the desired results, it may be time to consider professional treatments. Here are some options to consider:
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are a popular cosmetic treatment that involves applying a chemical solution to the skin, which causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. This process removes the outer layer of damaged skin, revealing a smoother, brighter complexion underneath.
Laser Therapy
Laser therapy uses focused light to target and eliminate pigmented cells in the skin. It is a highly effective treatment for various skin pigmentation issues, including sunspots, age spots, and melasma.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure that exfoliates and removes the superficial layer of dry, dead skin cells. It is an effective treatment for reducing the appearance of dark spots, fine lines, and acne scars.
Cryosurgery
Cryosurgery is a procedure that uses extreme cold to destroy abnormal or diseased tissue, including dark spots and pigmented lesions. It is a quick and relatively painless treatment option for skin pigmentation issues.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy involves injecting platelet-rich plasma derived from the patient's own blood into the skin. It stimulates collagen production and helps improve skin texture and tone.
Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy is a technique that involves injecting a series of vitamins, enzymes, hormones, and plant extracts into the skin to rejuvenate and tighten it. It is an effective treatment for reducing pigmentation and achieving a brighter complexion.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Conclusion
In conclusion, achieving radiant and glowing skin is possible with the right face whitening treatments. Whether you opt for home remedies, over-the-counter products, or professional treatments, it's essential to choose the option that best suits your skin type and addresses your specific concerns. natural hair care list and beauty must haves?
Natural Hair list depends on what type of natural you are so as usual I’ll be comprehensive. My hair is really long and I’ve been natural for years so do what you will.
Braid Out / Twist / Wash and Go
Strong Holds for Summer
Aunt Jackie’s Curl Custard + Aunt Jackie’s Ice Curls ($15)
Cream of Nature Leave In + Cream of Nature Custard ($12)
Wetline Xtreme (only a few dollars) + A good Leave In — Camille Rose Naturals
-> To avoid crunchy gel I always use a bit of oil but it depends on your hair. Most of the time I don’t get crunchy with this combo but I always use oil just in general. And to avoid frizz I take down with argan or olive.
Curly Tips
1. Deep Condition with Heat, or Do a Hot Oil Treatment
2. Know your hair porosity...Hair type is fine but porosity is more beneficial over all. Even though I’m a looser texture, I still need to hydrate. Stop worrying about texture...
3. A good shampoo is important to use sometimes especially during summer.
4. Always test gel combos in your hand first to see if it’ll flake.
5. Be sure to trim...otherwise you’re making your hair break off. Mine doesn’t break cause I get regular trims and I also switch my hair up in braids during the summer to give it a rest from manipulation.
6. Pay attention to your hair and see what it needs. Moisture? Protein? Learn and educate yourself. Also, you don’t really need that many products as a natural...at least in my experience... eventually your hair will adapt and retain moisture for example. My hair is thick thick thick and low porosity!
Beauty Tips
1. Wash your face for 60 seconds otherwise it’s not penetrating your skin.
2. SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN! This is the biggest skincare secret. You need a good sunscreen. Your skin will be even and hyperpigmentation won’t be an issue.. SPF 30 at LEAST.
3. Always wash your makeup brushes, wash your sheets/pillowcases...
4. Lashes go a long way for a natural look. But if you don’t wear lashes, lip gloss or lipstick (what you prefer) goes a long way.
5. Must haves: a good skincare routine, a good sleep routine, a wellness routine, and hydration. I could recommend products all day but if you aren’t doing routines for yourself it’s useless. I don’t use that many skincare products because my skin has reached a flawless point after dedicating myself to a routine.
•A must have for me is sunscreen, retinol, serum, toner, and a cleanser. Cleanser -> toner -> serum -> moisturize -> spf then retinol only at night. I use Differin. Hyaluronic acid is good to have in your moisturizer as well and then CeraVe is perfect for moisturizers because it has Niacinamide which helps with hyperpigmentation if that is your issue... Retinol also helps hyperpigmentation and increases cell turnover.
•Castor oil is great for growing your lashes or eyebrows if you need to do that. I already have thick eyebrows but I know some people have sparse.
6. Good foundations must try: Nars Radiant (concealer too), Fenty line, Urban Decay, Maybelline Fit Me (drugstore), Milani Foundation 2 in 1 (drugstore)
7. Best lashes are typically found at Beauty supply lol and glosses...
More beauty plus Hygiene & health wise secrets:
•DENTAL routine - Crest 3D White line is immaculate. My smile is beaming... also brush that tongue and use the mouthwash. Don’t forget to floss...
•don’t always sleep with underwear, let your sister breathe lol
•Native Deodorant is a great natural deodorant if you want to avoid the ingredients in regular
•Exfoliating gloves
•Butters and oils give me glowing skin on top of my lotion (body)
•Yogurt is great if you need to promote digestion. Smoothies are amazing for your body as well. And if you add almond milk it’s even better. Or smoothie bowls are just good in general — açaí. I feel so clean after eating an açaí bowl.
•Aztec clay mask is great for your hair and skin. Double duty!
If you need something specific, just ask! 💕

@melatovnik ok here we go finally! first: my thoughts on body wash and moisturizer!
1) body wash: there are probably some really high end body washes out there that feel lovely but this is one step where i have not been convinced that i need anything more than a basic drug-store brand moisturizing wash a la olay ultra hydrating shea butter, dove something or other, cerave something or other, aveeno, etc. there's lots of brands with nice cheap hydrating gentle formulas, i don't think it matters a ton, just as long as it's not that suave garbage UGH it's so harsh if i'm ever staying somewhere that only has that i just skip body wash altogether, i've been burned too many times. medicated washes are a different story (which will be a different post) but otherwise it just goes down the drain! as long as what you got works fine and doesn't ravage your skin, spend the money elsewhere.
IF i wanted to upgrade, i have my eye on the skinfix eczema+ foaming oil body wash, which is $24 for just 12.5 oz, which, again, silly for something i'm going to immediately wash off! but i have a sample of the facewash that i just tried and it was very nice and i like their other products, so there you go.
2) moisturizer: that cerave cream... yes. probably the best bang for your buck out there, nice feel and absolute cheapest price per oz. the aveeno eczema therapy is awesome too, loaded with panthenol which is super soothing, though not an emollient. IF you wanted to upgrade, if those weren't cutting it for you and you were still dry/scaly/flaky and wanted more liquid oil emollient content (me lately), these are my thoughts rn:
a) slight upgrade option: la roche-posay lipikar balm ap+. decent size 400 mL pump bottle for $20 at target, kind of ointmenty smell and greasy feel putting it on, but you've got sunflower seed oil and shea butter pretty high up the ingredient list, but still at a really good price point. the petrolatum and mineral oil will really grease you up if you use a lot but you really don't need to, and they're both great occlusives anyway. plus it has niacinamide. i'm generally a fan.
b) serious upgrade option: skinfix eczema+ line. i have an old tube of the hand repair cream i really like, i was just using the remedy+ 911 ointment on my scaly dry legs bc it was all i had (which worked instantly), and i've just ordered a new hand cream and the body cream to see how they work for my current scaly lizard body. a definite step up in price per oz (i just spent $18 and $34 for those two products) but the ingredients are great, basically all various natural oils right from the top of the list, so you should definitely be getting more/longer relief than from your cheapy water/glycerin/cetearyl alcohol lotion formulas.
c) mad scientist: if you really want something more emollient-y than what you're using, cheaper than b and probably more pleasant than a, here is what i would try. take your cerave cream. now go find a bottle of pure squalane oil. the ordinary has one for like $7, timeless has one for $10, other places sell it for more. it's a little couple-ounce bottle with a dropper. squalane is a stabilized version of an oil that everyone already makes in their skin, and because it's stabilized it shouldn't break you out. just squirt your lotion in your hand, and add a drop of squalane oil, mix, and apply. you can play around with how much or how little you like, try putting squalane directly on without the lotion, or ditch it if you hate it (and you still have the original lotion you already knew you liked!). i kind of like just putting the squalane directly on my face at night tbh, just lube me right up.
d) if we're talking just face moisturizer, and you already know you like the cerave cream, the cerave pm facial moisturizing lotion is SO good. basically the same formula as the cerave cream with the addition of niacinamide, which is a b vitamin with extremely strong evidence for doing many things for your skin including regulating oil production, boosting collagen, evening pigment, etc etc. it's basically the first active ingredient i would recommend to anyone because it has so many benefits and there's basically no downside.
you can doctor up a combination of regular cerave cream plus a basic $5 niacinamide serum for cheaper if you really wanted, or the cerave pm is like $15 for a bottle. cerave pm is a lot of people's first rec on the road to upping your skincare game bc it works so well for so many people, it's hard to go wrong

A Beginners Guide to Anti-Aging: New to anti-aging products? Ingredients, Routine, and Application Tips
The world of skincare is a vast and often overwhelming one where the process of purchasing the right products feels much like searching for needles in a haystack. By the time you hit your mid-twenties, your skin’s needs change, and you’ll likely find yourself tempted by bold marketing lingo that promises to “Lift and Plump!” or “Farewell Wrinkles!” The truth is, much like our hair colours, body shapes and personalities, our skin types are unique and individually effected by internal and external skin agers. Therefore, the manner in which we approach our anti-aging skincare routines should be personal and considered.
Skin care expert and Founding Director of UW Collective, Annabelle Personeni has engineered anti-aging products for Johnson & Johnson, Yves Rocher and A’kin. Annabelle explains that while we’re incapable of changing our genetic makeup, we do have sway over a number of external aging contributors, such as exposure to the sun, lack of sleep, smoking and diet choices. According to Personeni, a good anti-aging product “will contain high levels of antioxidants and will have a base which will deeply hydrate the skin and reinforce its barrier integrity.”
We’ve cut through the noise and compiled a basic guide on how to develop your very first anti-aging skincare routine – one suitable for all skin types.
 THE FIVE PRODUCTS YOU NEED
In the simplest terms, every skincare routine (especially one targeted towards anti ageing should contain: Cleanser (and a double cleanse at that), an Exfoliant, Serum, Moisturiser, and the biggest essential of all: Sunscreen.
Tumblr media
 CLEANSER TIMES TWO
Cleansing contributes positively to our skin’s natural renewal cycle. Gently cleansing the skin both in the morning and before bed counteracts the havoc numerous external aggravators can play at a surface level; aggravators including pollution, indoor heating, dirt and makeup. Immediate signs of neglect often include clogged pores, an uneven tone, and dullness. Personeni advises, “it is important to choose cleansing products which respect the skin lipids, the skin pH and the natural microflora,” whereby the fewer additives your products contain, the better your skin will likely react. Opt for cream and oil cleansers in place of ‘soapier’ alternatives that tend to dry skin out (try Fresh’s Soy Face Cleanser or Dermalogica’s UltraCalming Cleanser). This first step will "melt" away the bulk of your makeup without stripping the skin. Follow up with a gentle cleanser, micellar waters work great, try Bioderma’s Sensibio H20 Make-up Removing Micelle Solution or Sisley’s Eau Efficace Gentle Makeup Remover.
TIP: Be mindful when cleansing your eye area. Skin is thin and your eyes are more susceptible to irritation if exposed to chemicals.
Tumblr media
 AN EFFECTIVE EXFOLIATOR
Exfoliating the skin two-three times per week takes the benefits of cleansing to a deeper level (literally and figuratively). While we often pinpoint the earliest sign of aging to be the development of fine lines, Personeni notes that it’s actually the subtle changes to the skin’s structure and colour that really play a part, whereby “pores become enlarged, the skin surface doesn’t reflect light as well, and starts to yellow”. For a cleanse that is effective without being rough and corase on the skin, try exfoliators containing Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), like Glycolic or Lactic Acids, also designed to clear away dead skin cells for an evenly pigmented complexion (Chemical Exfoliants: Breakdown and Product Recommendations) AHAs are proven to shorten the skin’s renewal cycle from 28 to 16-20 days, Personeni explains, thereby getting your skin fresher, faster. The trick is to incorporate an AHA-based exfoliator into your routine for a couple of months at a time only (for example, in the lead up to a special event), because eventually your skin will adapt and results will subside. Try Alpha-H’s acclaimed Liquid Gold or Wander Beauty Fast Lane Instant Facial
Tumblr media
SUPER SERUM
Often misunderstood yet highly effective, serums are fine liquids designed to plump the skin and target unique concerns. Lighter in consistency than traditional creams and lotions, serums contain tiny molecules that penetrate the skin deeply, providing reparative ingredients to unexposed dermal layers. This process is especially effective when using thin water-based serums gently pressed (not rubbed) into the skin post-cleansing. There are umpteen serums available, so it’s helpful to first identify what it is you’d like to achieve for your skin before ‘Adding to Cart’. As a general starting point, Personeni suggests trying a serum containing plant extracts “which are rich in flavonoids” as they are good “’free radical catchers” and will help protect the skin against the effect of pollution and light”. A great product for this is Innisfree’s Green Tea Seed Serum. Once you become familiar with how a serum works and feels, take your time to research what ingredients will respond best with your skin.
TIP: ”To me, skin care is a tactile business,” Personeni says on her preferred application method. “Our hands know our face, and massaging the skin gently with our fingers and warm palm of the hand is a wholesome way to be in tune with our skin, feel the life in it, be one with it!”
Tumblr media
 MOISTURISER
Applying a moisturiser is often the first step we take in attempting to slow the skin’s aging process. We’re huge advocates of this, however it would be remiss to choose just any cream to apply. At the first signs of aging, Personeni recommends sourcing products rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory actives that “will help neutralise free radicals and pathways involved in the damage of skin’s vital structures.” Ultimately, you’ll see greater benefit from building the integrity of your skin at this early stage, rather than trying to reverse any pre-existing problems. Look out for moisturisers – whether in the form of a cream, lotion or gel – that contain any one or more of the following: vitamin E (to repair), vitamin C (to lighten), beta carotene/vitamin A (to divert UVA exposure), and Lycopene (to protect). “By keeping my skin at its optimal health level, it is in a much better position to defend itself against environmental damage,” Personeni explains. Try REN V-Cense Revitalising Night Cream to tick multiple boxes in one.
Got acne, but want anti ageing benefits? It’s also not uncommon to experience multiple skin concerns at once (particularly in your twenties while your body goes through varied hormonal highs and lows). If you’re one of many of us trying to stave off adult acne, search for creams containing Niacinamide (a form of vitamin B3 required by the body), like Olay’s Total Effects 7 in One Day Cream SPF 15 which is known to prevent acne while boosting hydration levels required to keep skin looking young. Alternatively, Personeni suggests tackling one problem at a time to allow skin to adapt to targeted products.
TIP: While we’re a big fan of oils, moisturisers often contain particles that are water-soluble and are therefore easier for the skin to soak up. Instead, consider applying oil on top of your moisturiser for a dewy finish.
Tumblr media
SAVE THE BEST ‘TIL LAST, SUNSCREEN
You’ve heard it before and you’ll hear it again – there is no product more reliable to steer your skin away from the signs of aging than a sunscreen. This is essentially due to the fact that a trusty Broad Spectrum SPF containing protection against both UVA and UVB rays will deter light from infiltrating the skin. While a short kick of vitamin D is encouraged, prolonged sun exposure is not. Too much can disturb the reproduction of healthy skin cells like collagen and elastin (that keep skin firm), cause dryness and irritation, not to mention the risk of skin cancer development. While outdoors, choose products containing titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, which work to physically block the sun. And while many of us work indoors and feel we’re exempt from requiring a daily SPF, you’d be wise to opt for foundation and moisturising products containing even a small SPF rating, as light passing through windows and reflecting off screens can be just as damaging. “Foundation formulations are rich in particles to opacify and help cover imperfections,” Personeni says. “Particles do help shield the skin from the sun, but unless it has been tested for SPF, the protection is unreliable.” Again, consider products rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory actives, Personeni advocates, because they “quench free radicals generated by light, and limit damage to the skin.” We’ve been using Ultraceuticals Ultra UV Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF 50+ Mattifying for years.
TIP: “In regards to storage, I prefer to store my products at ambient temperature rather than the fridge,” Personeni admits, “as some actives can crystallize at low temperature. Best is to not buy too many products ahead of time!”
THE NICE-TO-HAVE’S (great additions to your skincare routine, but not necessary):
·       Toner
·       Oil
·       Eye Cream
·       Masks
·       Facials and Cosmetic Treatments
 LONG STORY SHORT…
Personeni’s advice: keep it simple. “It is best to have a regular skin care routine with low impact products rather than an erratic routine with episodes of high potency treatments.” Ultimately, the aim of the game when it comes to anti-aging is to keep your skin healthy, in much the same way you do for your body. Opt for products whose brand you’re familiar with, whose ethos you align with, that’s ingredients correspond to your skin type, and all in all, you’d be proud to house in your bathroom cabinet.

SKINCARE ROUTINE DURING QUARANTINE
Being stuck inside your home is probably a good thing for your skin as we are avoiding air pollution. However, I’ve realized my skin is getting dryer.
I only wear my make-up if I am going to college or have plans, and obviously being in lockdown, I haven’t been wearing my make-up -- which is the best thing for our skin, especially if you have really dry, oily and acne prone skin! My skincare routine has always been taken seriously to maintain my clear complexion, spotless skin and prevent dark circles and puffy eyes. An important thing to do while we’re in lockdown is taking care of yourself!! Here is my skincare routine in case anybody is curious:
I begin off with dampening my face with warm-hot water in an flannel to open up my pores.
I have been using Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit facial scrub morning and evening, as it is gentle enough to use twice a day. This has been clearing my complexion almost immediately, but sometimes I only use it once a day as washing your face twice a day can upset your skin, depending on the type.
After washing the product off with lukewarm water and splash my face with cold water, I use a facial serum by The Ordinary labeled as Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. This has massively prompt my complexion.
Afterwards, I use Neutrogena Deep Moisture body lotion to moisturize my face. For years, I have used at least 6 different branded facial moisturizers, and none of them have been a miracle for moisture on my face. Until I turned to my body lotion, that has out done any facial moisturizers I’ve ever used. My skin has always been dry, but as I have grown out of my teenage years, my skin is everlasting changing. I get the odd pimple now and then, but my skin is definitely getting dryer and my body lotion has been a miracle for body and face.
I use Chamomile tea bags for my eyes. The antioxidants, tannins, and caffeine in the tea helps to constrict the blood vessels, tighten the skin, helps moisture and puffiness. I steep the tea bags in boiling water, then squeeze them and place them in the fridge to cool. I then have them on my eyes for 15-30 minutes and use this time to relax or meditate, which has helped me remain positive and spiritual through this epidemic.
I also recommend to anyone applying pure honey to your face (only a thin layer!) and leave it on for 20 minutes for a homemade moisturizing facial mask! I have been doing this frequently for the last year and has definitely made a difference!
Taking care of yourself is always important, but it is a lot more important now during these difficult times.

Tumblr media
Sobel Skin Rx 4.5% Retinol Night Treatment
Sobel Skin Rx 4.5% Retinol Night Treatment is an anti-aging retinoid serum formulated from gentle, non-toxic ingredients. It was developed by Dr. Howard Sobel, a NYC-based dermatologist whose new active clean skincare line JUST launched at Sephora. Despite the name, it contains not retinol but hydroxypinacolone retinoate (HPR), a next-gen retinoic acid ester that causes little to no irritation. So I believe it should be comparable in strength to The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane, but the texture is a lotion, not an oil.
(Note for Canadians: Any retinoids in concentrations equivalent to more than one percent retinol are restricted by Health Canada... so we can't buy this, unfortunately!)

can you look younger as you age?
It’s not easy to appear younger than your actual age. Environmental variables such as pollution, tobacco, and sun exposure all play a role in how our skin ages, which is mostly out of our control.
While growing older is unavoidable, this does not rule out the possibility of appearing younger than your actual age. Keeping your skin smooth, fresh, and youthful is easier than you think with the appropriate care and products.
So, here’s your burning question: how can you appear younger than your actual age? To help, we spoke with Elizabeth Rimmer, a skincare specialist and the director and creator of London Professional Aesthetics, who shared her best suggestions on how to seem younger than your age. Here’s all you need to know right now.
Our genes are the most important factor controlling how we mature. Darker skin types may be less prone to lines and wrinkles, but they may be more prone to areas of uneven pigmentation, which can speed up the aging process. In fact, according to certain research, women of color will age 10 years slower than Caucasians.
But don’t be discouraged; while genetics play a role, most skin care experts estimate that 80 percent of aging is caused by our lifestyle choices. Applying SPF every time you step outside, regardless of the weather or season, is one of the most critical things you can do. Remember that our skin’s ability to rejuvenate itself declines as we age, so choosing the correct products to protect it is critical.
Who Doesn’t Want To Look Younger, Healthier, Stronger, More Vibrant And Of Course — Happier!

how look younger and beautiful?
Make wearing less makeup a habit. Your skin can breathe as a result of this. Only use a little cosmetics to bring off your best features. Over time, ditching a full face of makeup daily has completely altered my skin. Make sure you’re getting plenty of water. Water is essential not only for the inside of your body but also for the outside. It also works wonders on the outside. Improve your eating habits. Include more vitamin and nutrient-dense items in your diet. When as all possible, avoid excessively processed foods. Regularly moisturize your skin. Invest in nice face cream and use it every day in the morning and evening. Your face will become more supple and soft over time.
Excessive tanning and sun exposure should be avoided. It’s risky, and it wreaks havoc on your skin, making you look tired, wrinkled, and aged over time. Use sunscreen if you’ll be outside for an extended period. Get a more youthful haircut. One that looks rejuvenated and healthy and flatters your face shape. This is something that a hairstylist could assist you with. Don’t smoke, and limit your alcohol intake. This should be self-evident.
Our dream is to age like a fine wine.

Drink plenty of water: Drinking water is crucial if you want your skin to seem younger, brighter, tighter, and healthier. Hydration improves the skin’s suppleness, which helps to avoid the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Water can assist in the efficient and smooth operation of body functions, keeping your body young and healthy. Drinking water to detox your body can help you stay young on the inside.
Smoking should be avoided: You must not start smoking if you do not already smoke. If you’re a smoker, now is the time to quit. Smoking raises the chance of diseases such as lung and oral cancer, as well as making you feel older. In addition to decreasing the quality of your life, smoking might shorten it. Tobacco use can also cause premature skin aging.
A good weight range: To feel, look, and act younger than your chronological age, you must maintain a healthy weight range or a healthy BMI. Obesity or being overweight can put you at risk for a variety of health problems, including high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. If you want to stay younger and healthier, it’s recommended that you lose weight if you’re overweight, and do so in a healthy way rather than through fad diets or severe workouts.
Maintain a regular workout schedule: A regular, healthy exercise regimen can help you grow stronger muscles, lower your risk of disease, and even make you look and feel younger. Exercise provides amazing mental and physical health benefits, according to Frank Frisch, Ph.D., Director of Kinesiology at Chapman University, and can help your body stay youthful no matter what your chronological age is.
Maintain a youthful mindset: It is equally crucial to keep your mind fresh as it is to keep your body and skin healthy. Maintaining a good social life and managing your stress levels will help you maintain a youthful mind. Meditation, spending more time with nature and yourself, and surrounding yourself with positive, inspirational people can all help you stay youthful.

what makes someone look younger?
What you eat and drink influences the state of your health, particularly as it relates to how healthy your brain, bones, and connective tissue are, and determines how quickly you age. Regularly eating well (most days of the week), not smoking, exercising, drinking enough water, and limiting sun exposure will help you stay healthier and younger. Having clear, acne-free skin also helps you to appear younger.
That’s all there is to it! This is one explanation for why some people appear older than their years while others appear younger. Why not change some of the preventable factors that can be altered as anti-aging strategies? Because there are so many other aspects that we can’t control when it comes to aging, I’d rather adopt healthy living habits that I can manage to make the journey a little smoother.

how look younger a t40?
Stay away from the sun:
Excessive sun exposure causes wrinkles, lines, sagging skin, brown patches, pigmentation, and deeper creases. The sun speeds up the aging process, something many people are unaware of. When a person reaches the age of 40, their elastic tissue and collagen have already been degraded to the point where obvious alterations can be seen. Further damage to the skin can be avoided by limiting sun exposure.
To begin, a broad-spectrum sun protection lotion is required, as it protects against long-wave UVA. As a result, skin discoloration and wrinkles can be easily avoided. UVA filters like Helioplex and Mexoryl provide longer-lasting protection. As a result, they come highly recommended. To avoid burns, another promising choice is a product with an SPF of 15 or higher. Pomegranate extract and vitamins C and E are antioxidants that offer even coverage. Wearing sunglasses and caps while outside in the sun are other good options.
A Predisposition to Antioxidants:
Free radicals are known to be neutralized by antioxidants. Furthermore, they defend against the harm caused by causes like smoking and pollution. When it comes to lightening the complexion, they excel at it and make you appear younger.
Although certain foods contain antioxidants that are beneficial to the human body, not everyone consumes them in sufficient amounts. As a result, ingesting them and administering them topically is the best option. Green tea, pomegranate, soy, vitamins C and E, coenzyme Q10, idebenone, and niacinamide are all good sources of these nutrients.
Sleep soundly:
Everyone is aware that a lack of sleep results in far more than puffy eyes and a dull complexion. It promotes the synthesis of cortisol, the stress hormone, by producing exhaustion. By breaking down collagen, high cortisol causes aging. Sleep deprivation has been linked to inflammation in women, according to studies. Sleeping on time is, without a doubt, the finest solution. Not to mention that electronics such as phones, televisions, laptops, and other electronic devices must be put away one hour before the event.
Improving one’s sleeping patterns boosts youthfulness to the point where one appears to be 2–3 years younger.
Smooth lines using retinoids:
Because of their potential to stimulate collagen formation, they have been discovered to work successfully on brown spots and fine wrinkles by sustaining skin-cell activity. Researchers at the University of Michigan used a technique called. 4 percent retinol lotion on the upper inner arms three times a week for a total of 24 weeks. In terms of the outcome, the component was discovered to have a higher amount of building blocks that contribute to the smoothness of the skin. er.
Starting with retinoids is difficult because it takes around 6–12 weeks for the skin to develop a tolerance to them. Symptoms such as peeling skin and redness may occur before this period. In an ongoing investigation, the University of Michigan discovered that irritation can be relieved by using an ultra-mild facial cleanser and moisturizer.

Best Skin Care Products For Black Skin

Best Skin Care Products For Black Skin
A. These Are Best Skincare Products for Women of Color
The melanin in our skin, which is reflected in a warm, natural golden glow, ensures that our skin blooms all year round. Skin tones that cover the spectrum of brown, from sandy caramel to deep chocolate, deserve products made specifically for your complexion. These products did not exist for a while. Normally, skin care is advertised for specific skin types, such as oily, dry and combination skin, completely ignoring the under-represented group of people with dark skin. People with darker skin are more prone to things like hyperpigmentation, melasma, dark spots, and more.1 Many of these concerns are inherited and are part of our genetics.
Fortunately, more brands have created skin products that are specifically designed for dark skin tones. Our concerns with skin care have been in the background for a long time, and it is refreshing to highlight the brands that have made waves in the industry with colorful products for women. Many of them are independent niche brands born in the kitchen by women who could not find products suitable for their skin tone in the conventional market. Some of them found their way into the aisles of department stores and drugstores, but far enough away.
Black women, I blame them for endorsing and promoting those brands that need to be part of a bigger conversation. Inclusion is important, as well as healthy ingredients, free of aggressive chemicals and suitable for all skin tones. Knowing what to put on your skin will give you the shiny complexion you deserve. Below are just a few of the brands that deserve a reputation, but there are more.
1. Marla Rene

10. Unsun
Jojoba oil is a natural oil made from the seeds of the chinensis plant, a drought-resistant shrub native to southern Arizona, California and Mexico. It mimics natural sebum and nourishes and seals skin moisture without clogging pores or worsening acne
This FPS-focused line was created by the mother of musical genius Frank Ocean, Katonya Breaux. After examining sun damage around the age of 30, she was inspired to create a line of sunscreens for women whose color is free of harmful ingredients that can be even more damaging to dark skin tones. The Unsun shade was developed especially for women with skin color and is composed of fruit extracts, jojoba and coconut oil.
11. Urban Skin Rx

17. Avya
Avya’s new skin care line is making an impact in the industry, with a specific focus on melanin, which the brand describes as “one of the least valued determinants of skin health”. Kiss your skin with a good morning kiss with this moisturizing day cream with the right amount of herbal ingredients and sun protection factor that guarantee a smooth and fleshy skin.
18. Three Notes
Activated charcoal is made of carbon-rich materials that are burned at high temperatures, such as charcoal, coconut shells and wood. There are claims in skin care that it binds and removes impurities, but more research is needed. Developed by the Tanzania Crew in Columbus, Mississippi, Three Notes uses natural ingredients of the highest quality to nourish the skin. This charcoal and tea tree cleanser clarifies and exfoliates. Removes excess oil and completely softens the skin texture.
  B. The 11 Best Black-Owned Skincare Products for the Winter Season and Beyond
As black women, we grew up with the idea that “black doesn’t crack”. Although we are beautiful and old like wine, this does not mean that we should be careless with skin care and ignore the work that helps maintain the natural glow of melanin. It’s no secret that winter is a time for black women to invest in protective styles like braids, fabrics and wigs, but choosing the right skin care products is just as important.
Although black skin is diverse – and needs vary from person to person – there are essential ingredients that can benefit black women a lot in treating skin problems like dryness, eczema, acne and hyperpigmentation, says Elyse Love, MD, dermatologist at GlamDerm in New York City. “Hyaluronic acid and glycerin are excellent hydration ingredients. Zinc and niacinamide have anti-inflammatory effects and soothe the skin. Vitamin C, retinol, azelaic acid and kojic acid help pigmentation ”, emphasizes Dr. AME.
During the dry winter months, switch to thicker creams, ointments and body lotions and use products containing hyaluronic acid for the face to help keep moisture in the skin barrier, advises dermatologist Karen Kagha, a Boston physician. And just because the days are grayer and shorter doesn’t mean you can do without the sun protection factor – 80% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays can pass through clouds. So always use sunscreen, says Dr. Kagha.
With so many beauty products to choose from, it can be difficult to find the right ones. Fortunately, we’re here to bring you the best Black skin care products designed for BIPOC to keep you glowing throughout the winter and beyond.
1. Best Cleaner: ROSEN Skincare Super Smoothie Cleanser
Fruits are a great trick for glowing skin – and that means putting them all over your body and face! With a smoothie consistency, this facial soap offers active powder of lemon, strawberry and raspberry to clean and firm the melanized skin. Not to mention that it also works as an exfoliator, helping to lighten the skin and get rid of irritating marks of hyperpigmentation. The black-owned product has an almost perfect rating for Urban Outfitters for a reason!
2. Best Body Bar: Redoux Turmeric Botanical Bar
This bestseller from Redoux has sold out more than 10 times, so you know it has to be good. Reviewers swear that it is also safe for sensitive types. The scent of sandalwood and ginger will leave you and your bathroom with a super fresh smell.
“This was my second purchase and I will definitely be a repeat customer,” said one buyer. “I love the smell and feel of my skin through the bar. Soft, smooth and refreshed. I have sensitive skin and most things irritate my skin, but not this soap!”
3. Best serum for hyperpigmentation: serum with vitamin C, bleach and bleach for hyper skin
Former lawyer Desiree Verdejo founded Hyper Skin in 2018 after serving as one of the leading visionaries at Harlem’s Vivrant Beauty boutique, which housed black-owned beauty brands. It is free of parabens, sulfates and phthalates, so it is also gentle on sensitive skin.

Queen Rih Rih has undoubtedly reached the beauty industry with Fenty Beauty since the official launch of the brand in 2017. This combination of toner-serum reaches the pores, lightens and softens the skin and removes unwanted shine. As for the main ingredients, Rihanna includes a slice of the house with the Barbados cherry that adds vitamin C to brighten the properties, a cactus flower for hydration and the Japanese grape to detoxify the skin.
5. Best moisturizer: Buttah facial shea butter
Founded by Dorion Renaud, Buttah has earned its name in the black skin care community. This face cream made from 100% pure organic shea butter from Africa nourishes, protects and soothes your skin with each use. All you need is a small amount to exchange dry, scaly skin for a shiny, glowing complexion. (Professional tip: although you can use it during the day, critics say it is thicker than other moisturizers, which makes it an ideal night cream too.)
“I gave this to my mom for Christmas and she loves it!” Shared a customer. “She said the smell is very mild and her skin feels hydrated without the strong oily feeling that other moisturizers leave. Now I’m making a wish for myself!”
6. Best Gel Moisturizer: Radiate Facial Gel Butter Base
For women of color, for women of color, this moisturizing gel is soothing, refreshing, balancing, moisturizing and cleansing – everything you should look for in skin care products for winter and dry climates. For those who prefer light gel moisturizers to heavy creams or thick balms, this product is for you. Dermatologists tested facial jelly combines tea tree, evening primrose, lavender gel and aloe vera to restore, protect, disinfect and increase skin elasticity. This is especially good for oily or combination skin, as your face will not look oily or excessively shiny.
One reviewer said, “I have been using this moisturizer for a few months and it is amazing! I have difficulties with mixed skin and it balances my skin wonderfully! I have an active job, so I sweat a lot at work, but not that.” it just provides the perfect balance to prevent acne, but it still nourishes my skin. In addition to GLOW! Moist skin without fat! It is now a staple in my skin care routine. ”
7. Best toner: Temple Zen facial cleanser + toner

8. Best mask: Golde Clean Greens face mask
Golde has the perfect mask to guide you through your winter skin problems. The powder to gel formula requires only a few drops of water to activate, which makes it more convenient than your favorite DIY mask. Full of spirulina, mango juice, chlorella (read: a seaweed) and naturally activated chlorophyll, it detoxifies the skin and gives it a real shine.
“I only used it twice, but my skin is so nourished after it helps to dry active pimples! (I have dry / dehydrated skin, very sensitive and prone to acne). It has a natural, earthy smell. Super easy to use and wash too “wrote a buyer with sensitive skin.
9. Best natural sunscreen: Black Girl Sunscreen
Black Girl sunscreen is more than just a product – it’s a movement. As a founder, Shontay Lundy used her own story to inspire others to take risks in the beauty industry and beyond, especially as black women. This sunscreen contains natural ingredients such as cocoa, sunflower oil, avocado juice and carrots to help hydrate, hydrate and prevent skin irritation and hyperpigmentation. Perhaps the best news, the pure formula ensures that the infamous whiteness does not last once applied, proving that Lundy thought of everything when creating this product for darker skin tones.
Also called “magic in a bottle”, a fan raved, “Buying sunscreen is usually a hit or miss for me, but this was certainly a HIT! I was so impressed with how moisturizing this product was that I almost forgot. I was using sunscreen. It doesn’t dry my skin and doesn’t leave a white shade. It’s also ideal for winter! ”
