In 12x13 Family Feud and 12x14 The Raid, the confrontation between Mary and the boys kills me. Dean is biting back the "I am a better mom to Sam than you." Like in a way I get what Mary is doing and Sam and Dean have forgiven their abusers before, but Dean is so gutted at Mary working with people who hurt Sammy.

"You are not a child." "I never got to be." Oof it's been a while since I've felt the juiciness of their twisted family dynamics. Loving this.

The degree to which I hate Mary Winchester right now is... I won't say unparalleled, but it's pretty damn potent.

Mary: I am your mother, but I am not "just a mom." And you are not a child.

Sam: I know, but it's Mom! I mean, whatever she was doing, she must've had a good reason. Dean: A good reason? A good reason for working with those ass clowns? Sam: Look, I hear you, all right? But – but at the end of the day, she's family. We owe it to her to at least –

Dean: No, Mom, you were... It's not your job to make my lunch and kiss me good night. It's– We're adults.

The sheer amount of leniency being given to Mary here is so damn stupid. "She's our Mom" --- since when?!?! She stumbled back into life a few months back, leaves almost immediately, and promptly starts lying/working with torturers. Yes, amazing parenting. (Also, the argument that "we're biologically related to x so we owe them forgiveness for anything and everything" is a highly questionable one.)

And then there's the fact that Mary is consistently trivializing motherhood to being the standard role of caretaking. It's not like she came back and they immediately tried to shove her into an apron and relegate her to the kitchen. She tells them she can't cook? That Dean's memories of her meatloaf are just memories of grocery store takeout? There's a brief moment of adjustment, and then things go right back to normal. She cuts her hair? Great! Awesome practicality! (The only reason this goes sour is because she decides to go on a solo hunt with her bags already packed as a way of leaving without having to tell them she was leaving.)

Mary hasn't been a mother since she came back. She leaves the second the going gets tough, lies and manipulates her way around, and acts as though she deserves the Mother of the Year award in the process. (And, btw, this has barely even addressed the fact that she's working with BMOL, which has so much wrong with it that it should be a whole other post... broken ribs and burned feet is only scratching the surface.)

Regardless, it's not stupid or unfair or selfish for either brother to want their mom to actually be a mom, and it sickens me that the show (Mary, Sam, Dean, some combination of those, etc.) has decided that the brothers owe some deference/apology to their mom for acting like an atrocious parent.

i know what supernatural expects nothing from their viewers but like you don't have to do a flashback to the scene that happened previous to the flashback scene

#they literally show mick showing mary the bullet and then mick gets to sam and sam is hunched for a bit as he loads the gun. and then they #do a flashback to that same scene immediately where they show mick giving sam the bullet AGAIN. like what was there to expose ??????? that #the audience didn't know.#anyways silly little pet peeves i don't like 'oh this was the secret plot' reveal type of flashbacks in any case #s12 rewatch #12x14 the raid

ok but. Mary telling dean (in anger! when he asks her to just be his mom for a minute!) that he is not a child and his immediate response being "I never was" !!!!! he had that locked and loaded, baby!!!

All through season 12 I keep thinking about what Dean must be going through, internally. He's trying so hard to welcome his mom into his life and she just isn't interested in spending quality time with him (which! we know! is what he wants!!! He wants to make up for the 20-something years!!!). She doesn't hang around the bunker so dean doesn't get to do things like. cook for her. get to know her as a person and not as his memory of his mom at 4 years old. She just leaves (again) because she (rightfully) needs space, and what does she do? She gets together with the bmol and in that scene in The Raid, dean is interpreting her teaming up with them as her leaving him again!!!!! Cas nearly died in the two episodes previous and is currently off trying to find Kelly, Sam refuses to pick a side and dean is alone!!!!

If the spnepisodebracket craze has shown us anything, it's that the supernatural fanbase is extremely divided, with the lowly sam stan seemingly at the bottom of the pile. sam is always last in polls, so this is a bracket for the 10% or so who always votes for him. because yeah, there's 327 episodes of Supernatural, but how many are popular because of a dean or destiel moment? how many good episodes are drowned out because they focus on sam?

i've chosen, with some crowdsourced peer review (special thanks to @spneveryseason, @suncaptor, and @ambersock!) 125 episodes that are Sam Relevant. Some are extremely sam-centric, some just have a shot where sam looks like he's being crucified that gives me brain worms -- i tried to be generous about it to keep a relatively even seasons distribution! matchups will be random and polls will last 24 hours each. in the tradition of @spnepisodebracket (who this is obviously inspired by and would not be possible without!) i'll try to rb a gifset for every episode in the poll!
