head over heels | M.S
Tumblr media
This is my first fic, in a hot sec, so sorry if it's ass lmaoooo. Also it's long as fuck
Warnings: Drinking, Smut (don't read/keep scrolling if you don't want to or are uncomf or are a minor PLEASE), Dom!Matt, Angsty, Praise Kink (if you squint) I think that's it lol.
Word Count: 3.7k
Something happens and I’m head over heels. I never find out until I’m head over heels.
It had hit her like a truck. A semi truck, an 18 wheeler to be exact, carrying something so extremely heavy like granite slabs, or tons of cinder blocks, or even fucking boulders. And it was something so simple as waking up in the morning. She just looked over one night and something had happened, suddenly she was head over heels.
They had gone out for dinner and went to a small gathering after, and that’s where she found herself now. In the bathroom, face flushed, blood thrumming in her ears, hands shaky. There was no way she could have feelings for Matt. No way. The world had to have completely fallen off its axis right?
There had to be another reason why she feels the way she feels. Seeing him smirk at his brother sent butterflies a flight in her stomach. Seeing him talk to another girl and brush her arm with his hand while laughing sent her heart to the middle of her throat. The laugh that roared out of his throat at something she said made her fists clench.  No. There’s no other reason. She was truly, terrifyingly, falling for Matt Sturniolo. She looked at herself in the mirror, willing to get a hold of her mind and body. Deep breaths she thought, just get through this night and you’ll be fine. Coming out of the bathroom she was faced with Madison, a knowing half smile on her face.
“I was wondering where you got off to. You practically ran out of the room. Anything you want to tell me?” she cocked her head.
“No” I shake my head “Just got a little overwhelmed for a sec, I’m fine though”
“Whatever you say girl. You seemed a little – put off by something. Wouldn’t have to do with the girl Matt was talking to, would it?” Her eyebrows raised slightly.
“Wha-What are you talking about?”
“Don’t think I don't see how you two look at eachother.” What. “Oh come on. You both look at each other whenever the other isn’t paying attention. You watch as the other walks out of the room with this almost longing in your eyes. You both do.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about” I say as I gesture for her to move so we can exit the bathroom.
Walking back into the living room, I grab a cup and quickly down ice cold water, feeling it cool down the fire in my veins. I could do this, I could.
“Slow down there kid.” I hear a rumble from behind me. I turn to see blue eyes, lighter than the ones I see in my dreams.
“Chris,” I smile, “Just water buddy, don’t worry.” I do my best not to look over to where Madison returned, where Matt is. Still talking to that girl.
“She’s annoying the shit out of him, just so you know.” My eyes widen at the statement.
“I don’t kn-”
“Oh cut the bullshit.” He snaps at me. I swallow the lump in my throat. “You know it. I know it. Madison and Nick know it. Hell, I bet every random person knows it.” He sighs. “You both need to get balls and just say something. Literally anything. Because it’s painful to watch.”
“I’m scared,” I whisper. “I didn’t think I really knew until now. Until I saw him with that girl over there. That’s painful to watch”
“You know it’s mutual right?” He says gently.
I scoff, “You don’t have to say that. I don’t want to be pitied.”
“I’m not pitying you. Or lying. It’s mutual. I know my brother, and I’ve only seen him look at someone the way he looks at you maybe twice in his life. And it’s been a while.”
My head was spinning, my breath coming fast. I knew Chris wouldn’t lie to me but I couldn’t comprehend what he was saying. The doubt and feeling of not being good enough clouded my thoughts as I just stood staring at him.
“You should talk to him. And talk to him soon.” He says with knowing eyes. “Nick and I have tried to get through to him on the matter but he refuses to listen, kid just makes excuses and changes the subject.” I nod at him.
“I need time to just- I don’t know, process? This is new and weird and insane and I don’t even kno-”
“Relax. I’m not saying it has to be tonight. Take your time, but I do think this will all be alright.”
He walks away leaving me alone, but just momentarily as Madison comes back to me.
“Shots?” she smiles knowingly.
“Shots.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He’s still talking to the girl two hours later. And they’ve moved to the couch, his arm loosely around her shoulder and her hand on his knee. I feel sick, the burn of the alcohol starting to come up. Tears prick my eyes as I make eye contact with him. He tilts his head and furrows his eyebrows in a way to ask You good? I plaster on a smile and nod. Turning back to the counter to grab another beer.
A hand on my shoulder snaps me out of my thoughts.
“What’s up? You look fucking miserable.” I turn to see Nick behind me, worry in his eyes.
“Just tired, thinking I may head home soon.” “Don’t go yet, come over to the couch and talk with us. Chris was just getting started on this insane story of what happened in this house last time he was here.”
“I’ll be over in a sec, just gonna run to the bathroom.”
After washing my hands, I run into a body leaving the bathroom and get slammed back into the door.
“Christ, sorry it’s fucking packed in here.”
“You’re good.” I laugh softly looking up. Jesus, he was hot. Something about it seemed familiar. Blue eyes, floppy brown hair, tatto- fucking hell, he’s just like Matt.
“Need another drink?” He nods to the empty beer bottle in my hand.
“Probably if I’m going to endure this for another hour or two.” I mutter. “What was that?”
“Yeah, yeah. Was just gonna grab another.”
“What a coincidence, so was I.” he smirked. Lord, he was hot. I follow him down the hallway, trying to squeeze past the bodies crammed into the few square feet we were trying to maneuver through.
Next thing I know, we’re in the kitchen and Nick is calling my name. The blonde girl nowhere to be found.
“I told my friends I’d join them over there.” I say with a sympathetic tone.
“Ah, gotcha.” He says with a small frown.
“You can… come if you want?”
“Yea, I’d like that.” He smiles. He walks behind me as I sit on the couch, him sitting on the arm.
“Hey, this is-” I stop in my tracks. I don’t know his fucking name.
“Theo.” He pats my leg. I sense Matt’s eyes tracking the movement.
“Well Theo, welcome to the group.” Chris smirks.
After 20 minutes of conversation and introductions, I find myself reaching the brink of my tolerance. One more drink and I’d probably be on my ass. Madison can obviously sense that as she hands me her cup of water with a raised brow. I nod in thanks.
“You good?” Theo whispers in my ear.
“Perfectly fine.” I smile at him. I hear a deep breath from across me and look towards the sound. Matt. He looked furious. What the fuck?
“I think we’re going to get going.” He huffs out. Ok something was definitely wrong. Madison, Nick and Chris stand up following his lead.
“You coming?” Madison asks me. My heart stuttered. Do I go? Or do I stay, and try to fuck the feelings and thoughts running through my head away.
“No, I think I’m gonna stay a little longer.” I can see Theo smirk out of the corner of my eye. And, unfortunately, I can also see Matt’s jaw clenching, hands in fists, and his back go rigid. Chris shoots his eyes from me to Matt. Back and forth about five or so times. He definitely thought this was a bad idea. Madison’s trying to hide the proud smile forming on her face. I knew I would be getting a phone call from her as soon as we woke up in the morning.
“Ok, well remember, we’re meeting at ours in the morning. You got the key?” Nick asks.
“I got it. I’ll see y’all tomorrow.” I nod, trying not to look Matt or Chris in the eyes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke up to a pounding headache and an arm draped over my waist. My heart dropped into my stomach. Matt? No. No, not Matt. Theo. Jesus Christ what was I doing.
After getting back to Theo’s I had completely forgotten about my revelation earlier in the night. Well, kinda. He looked so much like him. Almost to an absurd level. He could be be their quadruplet for fucks sake.
He was a good fuck, I had to admit, although I wasn’t surprised. I looked to my phone to see the time, 10:15. I had to get going, and fast. I slipped out of bed finding my clothes from last night, wiping the mascara from under my eyes. My hair was an absolute nest, and I sure looked thoroughly fucked.
“Hey.” Theo mumbled into the pillow.
“Hey, I gotta get going.” I say sheepishly. See this was new for me. Not the fact that I fucked a guy hours after I met them, no that I did frequently. One time I only knew the guy for a mere 30 minutes before I went back to his place. But I never stay the night. Ever.
“Let me drive you. And here.” He starts getting up and throws me a shirt. I bite my lip. I want to get out of here. Now.
“No, no it’s ok I can get an uber.”
“Please. Let me drive you.” God WHY did he have to be so nice. Fuck it.
“Ok.” I say slowly slipping the soft shirt over my head.
We pull up to the triplet’s apartment after 20 minutes of staring out the window in silence, save for a dry ass sentence here and there. I felt bad, but I couldn’t bring myself to speak much. I was anxious as hell. The mixture of staying over, the hangover, him reminding me so much of Matt and knowing that was probably the reason why I fucked him, seeing Matt sober for the first time after what I realized last night. It was a lot.
“Can I get your number?” I need to get out of this car now.
“Sure.” I type it into his phone, knowing that the chances of him getting a reply was scarce.
“Great. Maybe we can grab drinks later this week.”
“Uh, sure yeah that sounds great.” No chance at that either.
I shut the car door and take out my keys, finding the spare and unlocking the door. I take a deep breath. And then another. And another. The nausea was creeping in and it wasn’t from the obscene amount of alcohol I had consumed last night.
I slip off my shoes and pad into the living room.
“Well it’s about damn time.” Nick says loudly.
“Nick. My fucking head. Shut up you literal idiot.” Chris groans.
“Hey it’s not my fault you came back and downed another two beers.”
“Shut. Up.” He throws a pillow to the couch.
“Well. You look…” Madison begins.
“Disheveled. New Shirt?” Nick finishes, silently laughing.
I scoff, “Yeah thanks guys. Exactly what everyone wants to hear in the morning.”
“I was extremely surprised to not find you on the couch this morning when I went to pee.” Chris looks up at me, a small smirk on his face.
“In the five years I’ve known you, I have never woken up and not seen you on the couch after a night out. Even when you don’t initially come home with us.” Madison purses her lips trying to hide a smile.
“Time for the morning after debrief!” Nick yells.
“Would you stop fucking screaming you big yellow beast.” Chris screams back.
“Yeah well who’s yelling now” Nick throws back.
“If I could stand up right now without falling over I would kill you Nick”
“I’d like to see you fucking try you big baby.”
“Fucking. Quit. It.” Matt says sternly. I look over to the chairs at the island in the kitchen. I hadn’t seen him when I walked in. He meets my eyes, no emotion to be seen.
“Alright back to the debrief.” Nick throws a gatorade at me. I sit down next to Madison.
“What? You don’t want to change first.” Matt says glaring at me. Everyone goes silent, looking between the two of us. Turn my head back to Nick.
“Debrief.” I nod, ignoring Matt. I don’t know who shoved something up his ass this morning, but I was not ready to deal with him. And what the actual fuck is his problem. I’ve seen him hungover multiple times, but I’ve never seen him get an attitude like this.
After Nick, Chris and Madison talk about how they all ubered home, Nick almost vomiting out the window, not because he was drunk but because the driver was a “fucking maniac” he excused. It rounded back to me.
I took a breath, picking at my fingernails.
“We left probably half an hour after you guys, Theo had a friend who wasn’t drinking so he dropped us at his place.”
“And? How was he?” Nick gestured for me to move forward. Usually I was really open with this stuff around them. But for some reason this morning, after the shock of last night, it felt so weird. I could sense Matt’s eyes boring into me.
“He was, uh…”
“Oh come on.” Chris sits up. “Don’t hold back. What kind of freaky shit did you get into?” My face screwed up.
“God, nothing like that. He was good, great actually. Better than the last few.” Matt shoots up out of the chair, stomps to his room and slams the door.
“What the fuck is his problem?!” I throw my hands into the air.
“I think- I think it’s time you tell him kid.” Chris shoots me a solemn look.
“I hate to agree with Chris, but I agree with Chris.” Nicks looks at me, Madison nods. I groan.
“Not yet.”
“Yes. It has to be now. Or else we’re going to have to deal with this for the foreseeable future.” Madison states.
“Fine.” I huff out and stand up. Slowly walking to his room, trying to swallow my pride and praying to the universe I don’t make an absolute fool out of myself.
I approach his door.
“Matt?” I knock.
“What do you want?” He snaps from behind the door. I open it, staring at him on the bed looking at the ceiling.
“Did I say you could come in?”
“Ok what the fuck is your problem?”
“I don’t have a problem.”
“Obviously you do.”
“Maybe that’s you projecting. Maybe you obviously have a problem. Whoring yourself out to any guy you meet within a few hours. What number was this? 25? 30? Did you even remember his name? I bet you forgot, bet you mixed it up with one of the many other men you’ve slept with in the past few months.” He growls. My jaw drops to the floor, hot tears filling my eyes. He’s never spoken this way to me. Never spoken to anyone this way before in the years I’ve known him. Legs shaking, I start walking to the bathroom knowing I’m seconds away from tears. I try to shut the door but he wedges his body in between.
“I didn’t mean that.” Anger still present in his voice.
“Then why the hell would you say it Matt?”
“I don’t know. I don’t fucking know. All I know is that the minute I left that party I could not get you out of my head. Actually. That’s a lie. Every time you go home with some random guys I cannot get you out of my head. And it’s driving me. Fucking. Crazy. I couldn’t sleep, sick to my stomach picturing him with you. His hands on you, I-” I cut him off.
“What are you saying?”
“I don’t know. All I know is.. Fuck it.” He grabs my face in his hands and kisses me roughly, slamming the bathroom door shut with his foot.  I open my mouth to breathe but he doesn’t let me, pushing my body against the sink. I let out a moan of pain as my spine connects with the tile. I can feel his smirk against my lips. He then takes my bottom lip into his mouth and bites softly. I let out a whimper.
“Shh. We can’t have them hearing us can we?” He whispers, then attacks my neck. He lifts me up onto the countertop. He lifts the t-shirt off my body. “Get this fucking thing off.” He growls. I go to cover my boobs as he bats my hands away. “Never. Fucking. Do that.” He says, his voice the lowest I’ve ever heard it before. He flips on the bathroom fan adding some noise to conceal the fact that we’re in here.
He brings his mouth down to my chest, taking one nipple into his mouth then blowing a cool breath before moving to the other. Shivers run down my body.
“Matt.” I start.
“I told you. Be Quiet.” He barks out. He starts moving lower, working me out of pants, leaving me in my underwear, smirking at the sight. He works his thumb over my underwear, and I blush knowing how I wet I am, and the fact that it’s probably visible through the fabric.
“Already?” He smirks. He pulls my underwear down, running his fingers up and down. “No one else gets to touch you ever again right?” I whimper. “I said right?”
“Yes. Yes. No one else, just you.” I whisper.
“Good girl. Use your words. Does this feel good?” He asks as he brings his mouth to my clit, softly licking.
“Y-yes.”
“And this?” He adds a finger inside of me, groaning at how wet I already am. I moan in response.
“I said. Use your words.”
“Yes Matt. Feels so good.” He smiles as he continues, adding a second finger and pumping slowly. It’s not enough. It’s slow torture, it’s burning, it’s consuming me and I’m having trouble breathing.
“Not enough, Matt. More. Please.” He rises up, pulls me off the counter and flips me around.
“I want you to watch me fuck you. I want you to see that no one else can make you feel this good. I want you to watch yourself come undone on my cock.” His words alone have my head spinning. He slowly enters me, bottoming out and my jaw drops.
“Fuck. So. Fucking. Tight.” He says in between thrusts. “So. Fucking. Beautiful. All. Fucking. Mine.” He pulls my hair back exposing my neck. “Isn’t that right baby?” All I can do is nod.
“I’ll let that slide since I can see I’m fucking you speechless.” He growls into my ear. I can feel myself getting close, so close to the edge. He brings his hand forward, slowly circling my clit, too slow.
“Matt. Faster please.” I plead. He picks up his pace, both his fingers and his hips. His other hand covers my mouth, sensing what’s going to happen. I hit my high, squeezing my eyes close, my mouth dropping open behind his hand, silently screaming. He grunts and I feel him dripping down my thighs. Were both panting, sweaty, and shaking. I let out a soft laugh, rubbing my hands over my face, shaking my head back and forth.
“Wha-” I begin but he cuts me off with a kiss.
“No. Don’t start over thinking. I’ve wanted to do that for months. Hell, years. I can’t stand the thought of you being with anyone else.”
“Last night, when you were talking to that girl. I couldn’t fucking see straight. Matt, I fucked that guy last because he looked like you. And I hated myself this morning. I didn’t even want to speak about it.” I start spilling the truth.
“I felt the same. When you left with Theo” He spits his name out. I smile softly at him. “And I swear it. I didn’t mean anything I said. I was jealous and mad and out of my mind. And I will never stop apologizing.”
“I know” I kiss his collarbone. “I know.”
“I mean it. No one else touches you.”
“No one else.” I nod, now unable to control my smile, him mirroring the same back. I go to grab toilet paper to wipe between my thighs.
“No. Leave it.” I raise an eyebrow. “It’s hot” He shrugs and I blush. “No need to get all shy on me when I fucked you stupid against the counter not even two minutes ago.” I shove him gently back, going to grab my clothes. He grabs the shirt and throws it in the trash. “Do not put that fucking thing on.” He tosses me his shirt and pajama pants, ducking into his room to grab new clothes. I stay in the bathroom as he slides back in, running his hand through my hair.
“You’re so beautiful.” He grins, “Can’t get enough. Now let’s get back out there.” He slaps my ass gently, pushing me through the door.
As soon as I’m in eyeshot of the three on the couch Madison’s eyes go wide, Nick’s jaw drops and Chris has the biggest smile on his face.
“Fucking finally!” He screams. “Holy shit, ow Chris, now you’re killing my head” Nick slaps him. The whole room erupts into laughter as Matt and I plop on the couch, his arm laying around my shoulders. And it’s then that I know, we’ve fallen head over fucking heels.

HONEY
Pairing: King Steve Harrington x Female Reader (no use of y/n)
NSFW 18+: language, oral, fingering
A/N: I was planning on making this a short series, so depending on interest, this may turn into more. This is the first fic I’ve ever posted so I wanted to keep it short and sweet. This is not proof read, sorry if there are any mistakes :)
Tumblr media
You never meant for any of it happen. Well, definitely not the first time, or the second or maybe even the fifth time. But at some point you suppose you stopped caring about being a good friend because you’d be the worst if it meant Steve “The King” Harrington kept working your clit the way he was doing now.
“Steve m’gunna cum soon.”
“Yeah? You gonna let me taste it honey?” Steve lets out a groan, lapping at your folds like he has all the time in the world. “Shit, I love this filthy little pussy.”
“Stevie.”
“Everyone thinks you’re so innocent honey. But you’ve got your best friends boyfriends tongue in your cunt everyday. What would they think if they found out you’re just a giant slut for me.”
Fuck. Fuck.
You wanted everyone to know how you spent your free period. And your weekends and sometimes your Thursday mornings if Nancy had tutoring lessons before school. You wanted them all to realize that even when Steve had his big hands wrapped around Nancys waist, his face close to hers, saying those pretty words that make her blush pink, he was really just a slave to you.
On his knees daily, begging to worship you, pleading to taste you, crying while he stuffs you full with his cum.
Steve Harrington was yours. Nancy Wheeler could go to hell.
You could barley get your words out. Stomach bound tight and ready to explode.
“What was that honey? You know I hate it when you don’t speak up.” He looks up at you, bottom half of his face glistening with your slick, fingers prodding your aching hole.
“I want them to see.” You lean your head back against the tile of the locker room wall.
“See what?” He has two thick fingers stretching you out, hitting that sweet spongy spot over and over.
“Want them to see you fuck me out. Please Stevie, want them…” You mewl in between pumps. “to know I’m yours.”
“Shit.” His fingers move faster while he stands up to meet his face with yours. You can smell yourself on him and you love it. Oh my god you love it. Yours ears burn hot and your legs start to shake.
He kisses along your jaw, grabbing your throat tight with his free hand, moaning your name so pretty as you palm him over his pants. “No one can know it’s me filling this pussy. You’re not a good girl, you’re not like Nancy.”
His words tear your chest in two but they’re coated in sugar and you’re about to cum.
“But you’re still mine, right honey?”
But you’re still mine.
Still mine.
Right honey?
You’re completely and utterly gone. Seeing white while coming undone. Losing your balance and being held up by Steve’s body, mouth clamped shut by his palm. The noises being muffled nothing short of pathetic but you don’t care. You can’t care, not while he’s praising you and telling you just how sweet you’ve been for him the last 10 minutes.
You’re practically in tears, chest heaving and cunt still dripping when he straightens you out.
“I’ll see you after school yeah? Nancy said you’re going back to hers and asked if you could catch a ride. Don’t be late, you know she hates waiting.” He pulls your skirt back down your hips and squeezes your ass.
“Said you’ll be gone before dinner though. You’re coming to mine when you leave, yeah?” He’s got your chin between his fingers. Head dipped low to look you in your eyes.
You’re dumb. So dumb, so horny and so stupid for Steve Harrington.
You nod. “Yes.”
He didn’t have time to give you his cock this morning but tonight he would and when he was balls deep in you he never remembered her name and he always asked you to stay.
“I’ll pick you up 3 blocks from her place. Clean yourself up. You let me make such a mess of you honey.”

Christmas
Author's Note: My comeback is fierce, this fic is long af compared to what I usually write. I couldn't come up with a name. don't judge. Also this is the first time I've kind of drifted back and forth between POVS but I'll try to make it obvious. Steve's POV is in italics.
Story Summary: You and Steve have disliked each other since high school, but after your car breaks down in front of his house on Christmas Eve, the two of you...well, read the story.
Characters: Steve Harrington x Female Reader, OC Vinny the mechanic, nameless family members of the reader.
Warnings: Steve is drinking a bit but NOT drunk, Steve and reader are mean af to each other, angst, bit of fluff, sexual situations included: rough sex, bareback, biting, mentions of blood, spanking, face slapping, choking, degradation, praise, fingering, orgasm denial, too many orgasms, I think that's all but please let me know if I missed anything!
Word Count 7.5k+
Conclusion is up
Steve should be used to being alone for the holidays.
Birthdays, Halloween, even Christmas Eve now. It's not like his parents didn't call and apologize for not being there. It's not like they didn't put overpriced gifts under the tree to make up for it before they left. It's not like Steve was hurt or even surprised when they took off for a tropical vacation five days before Christmas without him.
He tried to convince himself he didn't care as he sat on the couch across from the fireplace, sipping a beer. He told himself he chose to be alone tonight. Nancy had invited him over for Christmas dinner but the thought of seeing the Wheeler family in matching sweaters and all happy like a real family had no appeal to him. The thought of Nancy and Jonathan exchanging gifts and kisses really had no appeal to him.
He's nursing his second beer when there's a knock at the door. He almost thinks he imagined it, it's nearly ten p.m. Surely no carolers are out this late. The knocking comes again, louder this time, and he peels himself off the couch to answer.
He opens the door and frowns.
"Shit, shit, piece of shit!" You bang on your steering wheel in frustration. Your clunker of a car always gives out at the worst times. You're not dressed for the cold weather, having chosen to wear a tight, short red dress to your office Christmas party and your jacket wasn't big enough to keep you warm for the mile walk to your place.
You get out of your car and kick the door shut, trudging through the snow to the first house you see. You go up to the door and knock, shivering as you rub your arms trying to keep warm. No one answers but you see lights inside and a car in the drive, so you knock again.
The door opens and you frown.
"Wrong house, Y/N?" Steve asks, crossing his arms across his chest. No way you showed up on his doorstep on Christmas Eve intentionally, especially not with the way you're dressed. He glances down at your exposed legs, your dress barely covering half your thighs. Surely you weren't this dumb, coming out in the cold in a dress so short and tight he could see your nipples poking through.
You explain through chattering teeth. "M-m-my car broke down in front of y-your house."
Steve sighs. "You need to call someone?"
You nod, shivering as the wind picks up.
He steps aside and motions for you to come in.
"T-thank you."
He nods curtly. "Phone's in the kitchen. To your left."
You go into the kitchen, a little surprised that all that's sitting out is a half-eaten box of pizza. You would have expected the Harringtons to have a whole feast for Christmas.
You call for a tow truck, but of course Vinny says he's gonna be a few hours. The holidays, you can't be mad.
You go back into the living room.
"Get squared away?" Steve asks, tossing another log on the fire.
"I got Vinny coming to tow my car and drop me off at home, said he'd try to be here by midnight."
"Long wait."
"It's Christmas, I expected it. Thanks for letting me use your phone." You head for the door.
"You're gonna wait two hours in the cold?" Steve asks in disbelief.
"I didn’t think-"
"Sit down, dummy, and warm up by the fire."
"I'm fine. I don't want to bother -"
"I said sit." He snaps. "I'm not gonna let you freeze to death, no matter how much we might dislike each other."
You sigh. He's right. As much as you want to get away from him, you'd turn into an ice block sitting outside in your car. Instead you sit in front of the fire, holding out your hands to the flames to warm yourself.
"Thank you." You say softly.
He flops back down on the couch and continues nursing his beer.
You both sit in awkward silence for a bit. Finally you ask: "Your parents already in bed?"
He snorts. "Not here. Went to Florida to beat the cold."
"So you're alone on Christmas Eve?"
He gives you a withering look.
"Sorry. Just making conversation."
"Yeah, we don't have to exchange pleasantries and shit." He shakes his head and sips his beer.
You frown at him and turn back to the fireplace.
"Sit back a little dummy, you'll catch that dress on fire."
I fucking hate him.
"Don't call me that."
"Then don't do dumb shit." He retorts. "I'm not tripping over myself to put you out when you start smoking."
"I wouldn't expect you to do shit for me, Harrington." You snap. "I'm surprised you even let me use your phone."
"You and me both."
"Sorry I'm not throwing myself at your feet with gratitude!"
"Can you shut up? You're killing what little buzz I had going." He snaps.
You both fall silent. You sigh. Your feud with Steve had been going on since freshman year when the two of you were assigned to work together for a science project that was twenty percent of your grade.
Steve hadn't met up with you a single time to work on it. You'd busted your ass on the project and refused to put his name on it with yours. Steve failed the class and had loathed you ever since.
Steve stares at the fire, pretending you aren't sitting in front of it. You two had been in an intense feud since freshman year when he'd overhead you complaining about being partnered with him. He knew he wasn't smart like you, but hearing you and your friends mock him for his low grades had actually hurt his feelings. He had avoided you, taking a failing grade on the assignment so that he didn't have to deal with you judging him and putting him down.
You sigh again, frustrated beyond belief as to how your night is turning out. The office party had been lame, your coworkers sloppy drunk and loud. You didn't want to spend Christmas Eve alone but halfway through the party you'd made up an excuse and left.
"Why are you dressed like that anyways? It's freezing outside. You didn't think to at least wear tights?" He suddenly scolds you.
He's more annoyed with himself than with you if he's being honest. Your body looked amazing in your dress and the twitch he'd felt in his pants when he had opened the front door and saw you standing there had him feeling frustrated.
"I forgot to wear tights. We can't all be as smart as you, Steve." Your voice is dripping with sarcasm and Steve scowls. There you go, making quips about his intelligence.
"For someone that graduated high school with honors, you really are a dumbass." He retorts. "You'd risk freezing to death just to look hot?"
You blink up at him, surprised. "I look hot?"
Steve blushes slightly, realizing what he let slip. "As hot as someone like you could look, which isn't much."
Your face falls and Steve immediately feels guilty. You rise to your feet.
"I think I'll take my chances waiting in my car."
"Don't be stupid." He starts to protest, but you're heading for the door. "Y/N, come on, I didn't mean it."
You ignore him and slam the door behind you.
Steve contemplates going after you, dragging you back inside. Your scrap of a dress wasn't going to help you against the cold at all.
Not my problem. He tells himself.
He sips his beer and sighs, the loneliness creeping back up to taunt him. He finds his thoughts turning back to you, you and that tight fucking dress. He palms himself without even realizing it. What the hell were you doing showing up at his house in the middle of the night dressed like that? And then you chose to be rude after he was gracious enough to let you come inside?
He stands up and grabs his coat, hellbent on giving you a piece of his mind.
You make your way back to your car, yanking on the door handle. It doesn't open. You fight the urge to scream when you realize you locked your keys inside.
Fantastic. Fucking fantastic.
You wrap your arms around yourself and try to stop shivering, cursing yourself for dressing so skimpy tonight.
I hope I freeze and they charge that asshole for contributing to my death. Smug pretty bastard.
You kick your wheel in frustration.
Who the hell does he think he is, talking to me like that? And he chose to be rude when I was trying to be gracious?
Your temper flares. You start to march back to his front door, hellbent on giving him a piece of your mind.
To your surprise, the door flings open and Steve comes charging out of his house. You both start speaking at the same time.
"Listen here you prick-"
"Alright dummy, listen up-"
You both stop and glare at each other, tension rising.
I want to hit him. I should smack him in the damn mouth. That fucking mouth of his.
You stare each other down, chests heaving, angry expressions, both waiting for the other to do something. To yell, to swing, anything. You tense up, expecting him to lash out at any second. Whatever he can dish out, you're ready for it.
What you aren't ready for, however, is Steve Harrington jerking you to him by your thin jacket and crashing his lips into yours.
You're stunned. He's kissing you roughly, teeth biting your bottom lip, tongue sweeping inside before you can react. You bring up your hands to his chest and push him away, hard.
Steve stumbles back a step, eyes widening.
"Y/N, I-"
"What the fuck, Harrington?"
Has he lost his mind? Have I lost mine?
He looks just as shocked as you do, mouth hanging open, hand on his chest.
You realize you can't stop staring at his lips.
I want more. I want to taste him again.
You close off the space between you and fist his jacket, jerking him downward.
"What the fuck, Harrington." You repeat, but there's no malice behind your words.
He stares down at you, his expression darkening. You reach a hand up and tangle it in the hair at the nape of his neck, tugging slightly.
He groans and reclaims your mouth. The kiss isn't as rough this time, but still hard and frantic, almost needy. He starts tugging you towards the house, almost slipping on a patch of ice, his lips never leaving yours.
He pulls you inside and slams the door, yanking your coat off your shoulders. He walks you backwards toward the fireplace as his tongue slips into your mouth and he snags a blanket off the back of the couch.
Steve breaks the kiss long enough to spread the blanket out in front of the fire, then yanks you flush against him.
You gasp as his hands reach under your dress. He grazes his fingers lightly over your clothed pussy, then slips his thumbs in your waistband and snatches your panties down, dropping to his knees.
His arm locks around your waist and he pulls you to the floor, laying you down on the blanket before pushing your dress up.
He unzips his pants and shoves them down to his knees with his underwear, then wraps his hands around your thighs and yanks you to him.
"Clean?" He asks, looking feral.
You nod, your words stuck in your throat.
"Safe?'
You nod again.
He holds out his hand in front of you.
"Spit."
You spit in his open palm.
Steve spits too, then coats his cock with your mixed saliva.
He lines up with you and pushes inside.
You cry out. You were a little wet from kissing and the spit helps, but it's not nearly enough to prepare you to accommodate his length.
He chuckles as you groan. "Too much for you, dummy? You can always tap out."
"Are you even in yet?" You retort and Steve lands a light slap on your cheek.
"You're moaning like a whore so you must be feeling something." He taunts, pushing in deeper.
"All I'm feeling is disgust that I'm letting you between my legs."
"Of course you are, you're such a pretty fucking whore, aren't you?" He reaches between the two of you and rubs your clit.
You moan again, wrapping your legs around his waist.
Steve leans down and kisses you roughly, then peppers bruising kisses down your jaw. He bites your neck and you yelp, shoving his face away.
"Don't leave marks on me."
"I'm do what the fuck I want." He growls, yanking your dress over your head. "No bra?"
You blush, crossing your arms over your chest, which makes no sense because he's already inside you but you do it anyway.
Steve laughs mockingly, tugging your arms away. He bites down on you tit so hard you yelp, grabbing his hair and yanking.
"Fucking prick!" You hiss.
He bites down again, his hand returning to your clit.
"Steve, fuck!" You arch your hips as he bottoms out in you and starts fucking you hard.
"Take it. Take this dick." He groans.
"Not much to take-"
He shoves his fingers in his mouth and makes you gag.
"Shut the fuck up." He snarls. "Or I'll choke you with my cock next."
You bite his hand and it only seems to excite him, he moans and sticks his fingers further down your throat. You gag again and he chuckles.
"Dummy can't even suck fingers properly."
You bite again, harder this time and he snatches his hand from your mouth to smack you.
"Bite me again and I swear I'll bite back till you bleed." He warns.
You squirm, his words having the opposite effect he intended. He notices and cocks an eyebrow.
"Thought you didn't like being bitten."
"I said no marks. Visible ones."
"Then fucking come here." He slips out and rocks backwards on his ass, then yanks you so that you're sitting in his lap straddling him, before shoving himself back inside you and biting your shoulder.
"Bleed for me." He groans into your skin.
"Fuck, Steve." You whisper, squeezing him tighter with your thighs as you start to ride.
He bites and laps with his tongue at your shoulders, your tits, anywhere he knows you can cover up. You're gonna be a walking bruise tomorrow but the pain is so delicious you wouldn't dream of telling him to stop.
"I'm so close." You whisper.
"Already?" He teases. "Come on dummy, show me how you cum."
"Stop calling me names, you fucking prick!" You choke out, your body starting to tighten with anticipation of what's building up inside you.
"Whore. Slut. Bitch." He cups your chin and forces you to look at him. "Fucking dummy."
You cum hard, soaking his cock. You wail and bite down on his neck, your whole body spasming as you ride out your orgasm. It's so intense you almost fall off his lap, and Steve digs his fingers into your waist to hold you steady.
Steve makes a disapproving sound. "Didn't last long, did you? And look at the mess you made." He gestures to his cock. "So naughty."
You whine, overstimulated now that you've cum. He chuckles and rolls his hips, hitting that sweet spot inside you again.
"Steve, oh God."
"Knew you'd break first. Going soft on me now that I made you cum, slut?"
You slap him and he grins. "I wouldn't go soft for you if you begged me." You hiss.
"We'll see about that."
He picks up the pace, determined to make you cum again, to see you fall apart on his cock one more time. He'd never tell you, but you look so beautiful right now, skin flushed and glistening with sweat, lips swollen from his kisses, your eyes dark and pupils blown with lust. You were stunning, he realized. How he hadn't noticed it before tonight, he had no idea.
You moan as Steve locks his arms around your waist, lifting his hips and fucking himself up into you. He sucks his bottom lip between his teeth, the expression on his face practically feral as he looks up at you. He was gorgeous like this, you couldn't deny it.
Your eyes stayed glued to his mouth, wanting to bite his bottom lip yourself. Wanting to kiss him until you were both breathless and whimpering.
Steve locks eyes with you. He smirks, but there's no malice behind it. He shifts and rolls you onto your back, driving his cock deep.
Your breath hitches. His hand loops under your armpits and grip your shoulders, his chest pressed against your tits as he thrusts harder, faster, groaning and grunting. At one point you think he moans your name but surely you misheard him.
Steve's trying to hold off, trying not to cum just yet even though you already got off, but the way you're looking at him, the way you clench around him, he's not going to be able to hold out much longer. You're perfect, so goddamn perfect, your tits, your lips, the way you're spreading your legs so eagerly for him.
"Baby…" He moans and your eyes widen. "Y/N, baby."
"So good." You whisper. "You feel so good, Steve."
He kisses you, still rough and demanding, but there's an urgency underneath. He needs to kiss you, needs to suck your tongue and catch your breathy sighs in his mouth.
"I'm close again." You groan, your body tightening once more, almost to the point of pain.
"Cum for me." He mumbles, his tone almost pleading. "Soak me again, Y/N, come on, come on, baby."
You cry out his name, that coil that was winding up so tightly inside you finally snapping and releasing. Steve groans as your nails sink into his back, hoping it leaves marks that sting for days, so when he jerks off thinking about this night he'll still be able to feel some of the pain.
"Steve! Fuck! Fuck!" You gasp, rocking your hips against him frantically.
"That's it baby, let me hear you."
You let out a garbled sound that's something between a scream and sob, your body slumping back on the blanket.
Steve stops pumping. "You okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, keep going. I'm good." You reach up and push his hair off his forehead.
"You sure?"
"Who's going soft now, Stevie?" You tease.
"You're the one laying there all fucked out on my dick." He retorts, suppressing a smile.
You clench around him and his breath catches.
"Don't think just because I need a minute to recuperate that I can't keep rocking your world, Harrington."
"Yeah?" He thrusts hard, making you whimper. Your pussy is so overstimulated that even pleasure hurts, but you aren't gonna give him the satisfaction of knowing he's made you so fucking achy and sore.
You clench again and he grunts, slapping your tit.
"Oh, you ass." You groan, your nipple stinging from the blow.
His hand snakes around your throat. "Didn't we agree, no more name-calling?"
"I didn't agree to anything. You're still a prick."
"And you're still a dumb slut."
"You talk too much."
His hand around your throat tightens. "So do you. But I know how to shut you up."
He keeps his grip around your neck as he resumes fucking you, long, deep, strokes that have you wet and throbbing all over again.
He pulls out and flips you on your stomach, barely giving you time to scramble to your hands and knees before he's slamming back inside you, his hand coming down hard on your ass.
"Take this dick." He groans. "Fuck, Y/N, take it."
You fuck yourself back on his cock, crying out as his slaps your ass again, the sting almost making you tear up.
"Damn it, that hurts." You groan.
"Shut up and take it." He hits you again and again, his strokes becoming more frantic and sloppy.
You grit your teeth and take his blows as long as you can, but one particular slap catches you so roughly your knees buckle.
"Steve, no more!" You whimper.
He stops, his hands coming up to grab your waist and pull you back further on him.
"I'm gonna cum." He grunts. "Gonna fill you up, slut."
"Oh fuck."
"Beg for it."
You aren't sure you heard him right.
"What?"
"Beg for to cum in you."
"Oh, fuck off." You retort.
He jerks your hair so hard your hands come out from under you. You land face first on the blanket, turning your head to the side to breathe. You try to lift back up but Steve pushes on your back, keeping you pinned.
"Beg, dummy, if you even know how."
"Fuck you."
"I'll hold off, Y/N. I'll fuck you for hours until you're raw and begging me to stop, don't think I can't. Now, beg me."
You have no doubt he can do it. And as much as you love pissing him off and defying him, your sore pussy can't handle much more. You hold off a few more minutes, then finally give in.
"Cum in me." You whisper.
"Louder, don't think you're gonna get away with that. And I didn't hear please."
"Please cum in me."
"Again." He speeds up and you cry out, your body starting to tighten up once more.
"Steve! Please!"
He reaches under you and rubs your clit.
"No, fuck, Steve, I can't!"
"You can and you will. Now, beg!"
"Cum in me, fuck, please, Steve, cum in me!"
"You first." He groans. "Again, Y/N."
"I can't, oh fuck, oh please." You babble, trying to push his hand away from your clit.
He keeps rubbing, ignoring your nails digging into his wrist.
"One more time, baby, you can do it. Cum pretty for me, yeah? Make me happy."
Oh fuck, not praise.
Of course he waited till the end to start praising you. Steve wasn't an idiot, he saw the way you lit up in school when you got an award, had a teacher call you out by name for doing a good job. Of course you had praise kink.
"Come on pretty girl, you've done so good for me. Cum for me, you've earned it. Let go."
You sob his name, your eyes rolling back in your head as your body convulses. You lose your balance on your knees but Steve holds you against him easily, grunting loudly as he pumps his load into you.
Rope after rope shoots off inside you and he wonders briefly if he'll ever stop cumming, because fuck, he hasn't exploded like this since he was a teenager.
After a minute or two he gently eases himself out of you and lays by your side. Normally when he's fucked a girl he'll hold her close and tell her how good she was, how sweet and perfect she is, but with you he isn't sure if he should. You probably wouldn't like it, right?
You can barely hold your eyes open. You'd been up all day as it was and now Steve has fucked you so good that all your muscles ached. You will yourself to get up and start hunting for your clothes, but you can't summon the strength to lift your head, much less anything else.
You hear Steve ask you something, hell, probably telling you to get out of his house, but you fall asleep before you can respond.
Steve asks again if you're okay, frowning when you don't answer. Are you seriously ignoring him right now, after what just happened? He sits up and looks at you.
Oh. You're asleep. He automatically grabs another blanket and covers your body, debating on what to do. Should he wake you so you can leave? Carry you his bedroom and let you sleep? Leave you here by the fire and go sleep in his room alone?
He's still weighing his options when there's a knock at the door. He glances at the clock. Little after midnight, must be the tow guy.
He tugs on his pants and answers the door.
"Y/N here?"
"She's asleep. I don't know if-"
"I told her I'd tow her car and give her a ride."
"Right, um, I don't know where her keys are or-"
"She locked them in her car. She does every time it breaks down."
Steve frowns. "Her car breaks down a lot?"
"At least once a month. I keep telling her she needs a new battery."
"Can't you replace it?"
He shrugs. "She says no. None of my business why, but I figure it's a little out of her price range."
Steve glances behind him to where you're sleeping. Even resting you look worried, the frown lines between your eyes furrowed and your jaw slightly clenched.
"Can you just fix it and bill me for it?"
"Sure, but tomorrow's Christmas and I-"
"I'll pay double. And throw in a big tip for your trouble."
Vinny hesitates, then nods. "Y'all swing by around noon tomorrow, I'll have it ready for her."
"Thank you."
"No problem, thank you. Have a good night."
Steve nods and shuts the door. He adds another log to the fire, tiptoeing so he doesn't wake you. After a minute of debate he slides under the blanket beside you.
He's asleep within minutes.
You open your eyes and stretch, sitting up to look around. You briefly panic when you don't recognize your surroundings, almost jumping out of your skin when you notice the sleeping form beside you.
Oh God. I fucked Steve Harrington last night.
You groan out loud and he stirs, propping up on his elbow.
"Hi."
"Uh, hi."
"How are you?"
"I'm fine, thanks. You?"
"Good."
The awkwardness between you can't be looked over, and to your surprise, a giggle escapes your mouth. Steve gives you an amused expression, letting out a chuckle himself.
You realize the sun is up. "Oh fuck, my car!"
"It's fine. The tow guy was smart enough to come to the door, he said we can pick your car up at noon."
"He's gonna fix it on Christmas? Must be feeling the holiday spirit."
"Would you like coffee? Or a shower?" Steve quickly changes the subject.
"Oh, um, yeah, a shower would be great, thanks."
You stand up, wrapping the blanket around you and scooping up your panties and dress from their discarded spots on the floor. Steve leads you to the bathroom, explains which one is hot water, and leaves you to it.
You're both relieved and disappointed that he didn't ask to join you. You wash quickly, wincing when your hands run over your chest and between your legs.
You wipe the mirror off when you step out of the tub, grimacing when you see yourself. The bites and hickeys on your shoulders and tits are red and purple, one small bite on your neck. Your ass is bruised too, you observe as you do a complete turn, and your hips and waist have fingerprint marks.
What a fucking night.
You dress and follow the smell of coffee to the kitchen. Steve pours you a cup and pushes it across the table to you as you sit down. The wince as your ass touches the seat doesn't go unnoticed by Steve, and he makes no effort to hide the smugness on his face.
"Sorry there's no cream or sugar. Haven't shopped in a bit. If you're hungry I might could fry an egg but-"
"I don't usually eat in the mornings. But thanks." You reply, sipping your coffee. You try not to gag at the strong bitter flavor.
"You slept a long time. We gotta pick up your car in just a bit."
"You don't mind giving me a ride?"
"You didn't mind giving me one." He quips without thinking.
You frown slightly.
"Sorry. That was crass."
"Yeah."
There's an awkward silence for a bit, you struggling to choke down Steve's coffee, him trying to come up with something to say.
"Should, uh, should we talk about last night?" He finally asks.
"I don't think there's anything that needs to be said, do you?"
"I mean-"
"It was fun. We had fun."
"Yeah, sure." He agrees quickly.
More awkward silence. Steve leaves the room and comes back fully dressed, thank God. You'd been having a hard time not staring at his bare chest sprinkled with your bites marks and scratches.
"You ready to go?"
"Mhmm, sure."
You follow Steve to his car. He opens the passenger door and helps you inside, ever the gentleman.
He gets in the driver's seat.
"Vinny's shop is-"
"I know where it is."
He starts the car and you chuckle lightly as Christmas music starts playing softly through the speakers. Of course Steve Harrington likes Christmas music.
You sit in silence until you pull up in front of the shop. Steve puts the car in park.
"Um, so, thanks for the ride."
"You too." He replies with a cheeky grin.
You blush slightly. "Steve."
"Merry Christmas." He says simply, reaching across and opening your door.
"You too."
You get out of the car and hurry inside the shop. Vinny greets you warmly and hands you your keys.
"Glad you finally got this clunker fixed, Y/N. I mean don't get me wrong, good for business having repeat customers, but I worried about you being stuck out in the cold in the middle of nowhere. Not safe for a young girl."
"Did you say you fixed my car? As in-"
"Replaced that damn battery."
You fight the urge to panic. "Um, Vinny, I didn't tell you to do that. I can’t afford that!" You were barely scraping by to pay student loans and rent right now. You couldn't afford a new bill.
"Your boyfriend said he was taking care of it. Didn't he tell you?"
"My boyfriend? What are you…Steve??"
"Whoever's house you were at last night. I assumed boyfriend."
"He said he's gonna pay for my car repairs?"
"Sure did, offered double. Now normally I get payment up front, but that family is well off and his mother is well-respected so I know I'll get paid."
"I, uh-"
"Good on you girl, bagging a Harrington. They'll have you driving one of their fancy cars in no time, I'm sure."
You don't respond and Vinny pats your shoulder. "Merry Christmas, Y/N. Now, get outta my shop. I wanna go eat some turkey."
You leave, still absorbing what Vinny had said.
Steve offered to pay for my car repairs? Sure, he can afford it, but why would he do that?
You're lost in thought as you drive home, suddenly realizing you're passing by the Harrington house. You pull to the curb and park, marching up to the door and knocking.
Steve answers, shirtless again, hair still damp from a shower. He frowns when he sees you.
"Don't tell me that your car broke down again?"
"Why would it? It's got a brand-new battery, thanks to you."
"You don't sound happy about it."
"Why would you pay for my car repairs?"
"Well it's a shit car and the tow guy said it keeps dying on you. Why not?"
"You aren't serious."
"It's no big deal. I can afford it and now you won't be stranded anymore. You could have froze to death last night."
"Not the point!"
"Why are you being ungrateful? I did you a favor!"
You sigh. He's right. I sound like such a bitch.
"I'm sorry. It was very sweet. Just very unexpected. I'll pay you back. It may have to be on payments but-"
"Consider it a Christmas present or something. You don't have to pay me back."
"It's a lot of money, Steve."
"Honestly at this point hearing you actually say thank you would be more than enough to repay me."
You force a smile begrudgingly. "Thank you, Steve, truly."
"You're welcome."
You both stand there staring at each other awkwardly.
"Did you, uh, wanna come in?" Steve asks, hating the way his voice sounds almost hopeful.
"Hmm? Oh, no, thanks. I've gotta get home and start cooking. My family has a big dinner on Christmas."
"Oh, well, have a good time with your family." Steve replies.
You realize that he probably has no Christmas plans and mentally kick yourself for bringing up yours.
"See ya." Steve says with a little wave.
You turn to leave. Invite him to dinner, it's the least you can do.
"Do you wanna come?" You blurt.
Steve pauses, hand on the door. "Um, I don't know if that's a good idea. I mean last night was great and all but I think a repeat would be-"
"Wait, what?" You cut him off, bewildered. "What are you talking about?"
"You asked if I want to cum and I just-"
"Come to Christmas dinner, Steve! I mean do you want to come to dinner!" You blush scarlet and so does he.
"Shit, I'm sorry. I completely misread that." He apologizes, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.
"Yeah, I'd say so."
"Sorry, sorry." He repeats. "Uh, what were you saying about Christmas dinner?"
"I was asking if you wanna come- would you like to have Christmas dinner with me and my family?"
"Oh, uh, that's sweet of you, but-"
"Think of it as a thank you for my car. You should join us, really."
"You sure?"
"Yes. You know where my parents live, right?"
"Doesn't everybody know where everybody lives in this town?"
"Good point. We usually eat around five, if you decide to join us."
"Okay. Thanks." He starts to shut the door.
"Steve?"
"Yeah?"
You close off the space between you and peck his cheek. "I really hope you'll show."
Steve watches you hurry back to your car, his hand drifting up to touch his face. Your lips had been cold, so why was warmth spreading from his cheek through his body?
That evening you're surrounded by family and friends, helping serve food and chase the kids away from the desserts.
You're so busy you don't even hear the doorbell ring. Your uncle calls out in a booming voice from the living room.
"Y/N, a boy's here for you!"
You swat away a little hand trying to stick dirty fingers in a pie and hurry out of the kitchen.
Steve is standing by the door, holding a poinsettia plant and a bottle of wine. His red and green sweater is hideous and bright, making you giggle softly.
"Hi, Steve."
"Hi. You said five, right?"
"I did. Come on in."
You introduce him quickly to your hoard of a family who swarm and ask all kinds of questions. Steve is polite and charming, instantly dazzling your aunts with his smile and impressing your uncles with his knowledge of sports. You catch his gaze every so often and offer an apologetic smile, to which he shrugs his shoulders and smiles back.
Dinner is finally ready and everyone gathers around the table. Plates are passed, cups are filled and everyone chatters excitedly.
Steve bumps your arm with his slightly and leans into your ear. "Your family seems really nice."
"Only in small doses. We're all ready to kill each other by New Year's."
Everyone eats and talks, dessert gets passed, and you manage to wrangle Steve from your family so you two can go for a walk.
As soon as you're outside, you apologize. "I should have warned you that they're so…much. Honestly, I didn't think you'd come."
"You saw my kitchen, you really think I was gonna pass up a free meal in favor of leftover pizza and cheap beer?"
"Good point."
To your surprise, and maybe his too judging from his expression, Steve slips an arm over your shoulders. "Cold." He explains, but honestly he's never felt warmer.
You nod. "Can't wait for the snow to melt away."
"Really? I love it."
"I had you pegged for a summer lover."
Oh for sure, can't beat the heat. But the snow is just something else. Beautiful."
You find yourself smiling up at him. "Yeah. It is."
"Wow, something we agree on." He quips. "I never would have thought."
"I'm sure we agree on a lot of things. Just neither of us would ever want to admit it."
"I know one thing we seemed to agree on."
You blush slightly. "Steve."
"I'm just saying, we were definitely in agreement last night."
"Were we? I seem to recall a lot of bickering and name calling." You tease.
"Foreplay, baby." He wiggles his eyebrows and you laugh.
"You're an idiot, Steve Harrington."
He grins. He’d heard those words several times from several people, but for some reason hearing them from you didn’t sting. He could hear the warmth behind them and it made him feel lighter than air.
You two make your way back to your house, the sun starting to go down and the wind picking up.
"You coming back inside?"
"Actually I'm gonna head home before it gets too dark. Tell your family I appreciated their hospitality, truly."
"They certainly liked you."
"Maybe too much. Pretty sure one of your aunts slipped me her number."
"Oh, I'm sure she did."
Steve hesitates, then closes off the space between the two of you and wraps his arms around you.
Maybe he meant it to be a quick friendly hug. Maybe it was a way of thanking you for inviting him to dinner so he wouldn't be alone.
But somewhere in between hugging and pulling apart, his mouth finds yours.
You gasp softly and he cups your cheek, stroking it with his thumb as he gently deepens the kiss, his other hand resting on your lower back.
You moan softly, parting your lips for him, and his tongue sweeps inside, brushing yours.
There's a whoop from the front door and the two of you jump apart, you turning to glare at your nosy cousins who'd stuck their heads outside.
Steve chuckles. "Guess that's my cue. Goodnight, Y/N."
"Goodnight, Steve."
He jogs to his car, hesitating before getting inside. "Hey, Y/N, you got plans after this?"
You shake your head. "No, why?"
"Just thinking, if you get cold tonight, you know where I'll be." He winks and gets in his car.
You watch him drive off before going back inside to your family.
They gush over Steve, how handsome he is, how charming he was. You nod and smile, your mind replaying his words over and over.
If you get cold tonight, you'll know where I'll be.
You make up an excuse and skip out of the family festivities early, driving straight to Steve's.
He's got the door open before you're even all the way up the walk.
"Get in here and lose the clothes." He orders.
"Don't tell me what to do." You retort.
He groans and reaches out, snagging you by the back of the neck. "Shut the fuck up."
"Make me."
"You goddamn brat." He growls, and his lips are on yours and he's slamming the door shut behind you.
Clothes are shed in mere seconds, and then he's got you bent over the couch, slamming into you.
"Couldn't stay away, huh? Such a greedy whore." He taunts.
"I could always leave." You retort, moaning as he drives deeper into you.
"I'll never let you go." He groans, landing a loud slap on your ass, and you know that he's just rambling, saying whatever he can to make himself feel in control, but your heart does a little flip-flop in your chest.
He reaches around and rubs your clit. "Come on whore, cum on my cock."
"Make me." You grunt, rolling your hips frantically. "Come on Steve, make me."
He slaps your ass again, his fingers working your clit furiously. "Cum for me baby, soak me cock, come on, wanna see it, Y/N, fuck, cum." He mumbles, biting down on your shoulder.
"I'm so close." You groan, your body tightening. You grip the arm of the couch, hoping you don't hit the floor when you cum.
"That's it baby, so fucking pretty when you cum, God, so sexy, cum for me." He rambles, lost in how good you feel clenching around him.
Your orgasm hits you so intensely that you choke back sobs. It's like white lightning and pure pleasure and also pain because God, pleasure like this has to be just a little bit painful, doesn’t it? Steve cries out your name, shooting rope after rope inside you, holding you tight against him.
You start to slump but he catches you easily, dropping to the couch and pulling you into his lap.
"I got you pretty girl." He murmurs, his lips touching your temple. "Wore you out, didn't I?"
"Don't sound so smug." You push at his chest playfully. Steve catches your hand and kisses your knuckles, then tucks it back against his chest.
"Ugh, don't be sweet."
He bites your ear. "Shut the fuck up, I'll be sweet if I want to."
"Ew. No." You tease, giggling.
He fists your hair and jerks your hair back, planting a noisy kiss on your lips.
"I'll throw up right here." You roll your eyes and make a gagging noise.
Steve slips a hand between your legs, fingers brushing your over sensitized clit, making you hiss and whimper.
"I could be mean. I could play with your pretty pussy until it's so sore you can't walk tomorrow."
"Please?" You whisper, parting your thighs further for him. You can feel his cock already stirring beneath you.
"Tell me you're my good girl."
"Oh, fuck you."
He pushes a finger inside you. "Tell me. Tell me and I'll pleasure you all night long."
"That's blackmail." You retort, trying not to moan and arch your hips.
"Mhmm. Be my good girl."
He sucks a nipple between his teeth, biting hard.
"Fuck…"
"We can. As soon as you say it." He adds another finger, his thumb pressing on your clit.
You feel yourself getting close again. "Steve, oh fuck yes."
He smirks and starts to pull his hand away.
"Prick." You grab his hand, trying to keep it between your legs.
"Come on, Y/N, admit it. You wanna be my good girl so bad."
"I'll choke first."
"On my cock, maybe." He starts fingering you again. "Say it."
You groan and rub against him, your hips jerking. Steve continues till you're right at the edge of your orgasm, then pulls away once more.
"Steve!"
He kisses you roughly, his fingers moving once more, curling against your g-spot.
Your body aches, the need to cum again so severe it's borderline painful.
"Please!" You whine.
"Tell me."
You bury your head in your shoulder. "I'm your good girl, please, please, I'm your good girl!"
He pulls you so you're straddling him and slips back into you.
"Steve!" You wail, your nails digging into his back.
"That's my good girl, say my name." He growls, his hips snapping upward, teeth against your throat. "Who's fucking you?"
"Steve, oh god."
"Whose good girl are you?"
"Yours, fuck, I'm gonna cum again, Steve, gonna cum!"
He grinds his palm against your clit, making you cry out. You wrap your hand around his wrist, bouncing faster on his cock.
"Cum baby, soak me, soaking my fucking lap." He urges. "Make a mess baby, God, making me such a fucking mess."
You scream. You try to stop but you literally fucking scream as you cum again. You feel a gush of wetness between your legs and can't even stop yelling to see what happened.
You realize Steve is yelling too, his hips flexed off the couch, driving deep inside you as he cums again.
You slump against his chest, whimpering softly. Steve strokes your hair, panting heavily.
A few minutes of silence pass. Your heart rate slows and you catch your breath. Steve is staring at the fireplace, looking lost in thought as he absent-mindedly runs his fingers up and down your back.
"Do you mind if I shower before I leave?"
He shakes his head. "Spend the night."
"I can't. I always meet my cousins for brunch the day after Christmas, family tradition."
He looks disappointed but masks it quickly.  "Oh, nice."
"I mean, I could stay, I'd just have to get up super early so I could run home and change-"
He cuts you off. "Nah, we've had enough fun for one night. Don't worry about it."
His words sting. Enough fun? Wow.
You get off his lap and collect your discarded clothes before disappearing into the bathroom. Once again, Steve doesn't join you. You shower quickly and redress, coming into the living room.
Steve's snoring on the couch, still naked. You toss a blanket over his lap and leave, ignoring the voice in your head that says to wake him up and kiss him goodbye.

Tumblr media
Summary: Eddie finally has the courage to ask out his crush. What happens when she is babysitting? Not just babysitting anyone, he little sheep. Those same sheep he just told that having a crush is force conformity.
A/N: Hiiii I'm Sugar this is my first fic and so many more to come so enjoy;)
Warnings: Use of Y/N, fluff, horrible writing.
Word count: 1.0k
Eddie fake gags as he watches Lucas stare at Max with the biggest heart eyes ever. As he looks around the table, he sees that almost all the boys have their eyes on someone, except for Mike and Dustin who are arguing on who's girlfriends are better. “Boys!” he says as he slams his lunch box on the table. “ Have you all been taken in my the dark side of the female gaze” he continues “Yes they are nice to look at but would they really want to be with us, us freaks it is all just force conformity” Dustin pipes in “Well Mike and I do have girlfriends” “ Still not believing till I see them, but as I was saying before they want you to look to fall in love for you to buy them stupid crap and that money that you are spending to make your “lover” happy goes straight to the big man’s pocket, that is way I never had or never will have a crush” oh boy was that a lie.
Eddie has been hung up on the same girl since 8th grade. Y/N L/N. Just like him you were an outcast, a nerd. Your older brother was the founder of Hellfire and was very welcoming to Eddie. Sophomore year, your brother graduated and passed on the torch to you. Eddie was head over heels for you but was too scared that you did not like him. Oh boy was he wrong. After having many talks with Uncle Wayne, he was ready to ask you out. He asks you to meet him in the Hellfire room but then he got the worst news of his life, he failed senior year. He spent the rest of the day in his van smoking and fell asleep. When he woke up it was 5 pm and ran out and the parking lot was empty, your car was nowhere to been found. He apologized the next day and asked to talk to you again tonight, but you were busy. He never got the courage again then you graduated leaving him behind.
He got home we you on his mind, as if Uncle Wayne were reading his mind “You would never believe who I saw at the store today” “Who” “Y/N L/N” Eddie’s heart skipped a beat hearing your name “Really?” “Yeah, she said she has been in town for about a month-” “Do you know how long she is staying” “Boy I did not ask her 21 questions” Eddie got a ran to his room “What are you doing” Eddie comes out with a nicer shirt on, his wallet, and a letter “Doing something I should have done a long time ago.
You have watched the boys every Friday and Saturday since they were 5. It was always Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will and you at your house or the wheeler’s basement playing D&D and watching movies. Even though you would have thought that you would stop watching the boys since they were now in high school but nope here there are. You plated the food for Mike, Dustin, and Lucas you almost grabbed a four plate out of habit for will, oh how you missed Will. Then the doorbell rang followed by rapid knocking. “Boys come eat” the three boys ran to the dining room. You open the door not excepting the person who was on the other side
“Eddie?” he was frozen, how could you get more beautiful he thought. “Earth to Eddie” as you wave your hand in front of him. “Oh, sorry hi hey how are you” “I am doing great you?” “I am doing good oh oh these are for you” he brings beautiful boutique of red roses to your face. “Oh, wow thank you Eddie” “No problem I heard that they are the symbol of love so-” “EDDIE?” You both look behind you to see the boys staring at you guys. “Eddie what are you doing here with roses?" says mike Eddie’s face flushed a bright red “I- um – I – Well you see- I was-” “Boys go eat your dinner” “But-” “Now” they walk into the dining room but stay near the wall to hear you guys. “ I didn’t know you knew the freshman” “Yes those are my boys remember the littles one I used to babysit” “ Oh my god those are them” “Yeah isn't it crazy, but why did you stop by” “Oh yea well um listen so the night I stood you up I wanted to tell you something but then something happened, you the whole not graduating thing, then you got busy so um-” he spins and fishes something out of his pocket “ Here!” He gave you a letter. “What is this” “Read it, it will they you everything that I was going to tell you and so much more” he starts walking away until you pull his jacket “Stay, let me read it with you here with me” “Oh um yeah sure” he nervously laughs.
Dear Y/N I haven't got you out of my mind since the first day we met. I have been wanting to tell you this for so long but scared that your brother will banish me, or you just plain out would like me so here I goes. I really really really I could write so many really and it still would express how much I like you. You are funny, smart, beautiful, and so many more things and I really like you so much so will you give me a chance and go on a date with me? -Eddie M
“Wow Eddie why didn’t you tell me this before” “I was too scared really” “Well that suck” “Sucks?” “Yeah because if you would have told me before you would have had yourself a girlfriend maybe now if you ask so kindly” “Wait really you like me too” “Duh” “Oh wow in that case Y/N L/N will you please let me, Eddie Munson, take you on a date and have the best night of your night” “ Yes” You make arrangements then kiss him on the cheek. The boys run to their seats as they are here the door closed “What” you look that the boys “Nothing” they say in unison. Oh boy were they going to tease Eddie Monday at school.

Warnings : Little Angst here and there
The first time Steve Harrington saw you was when you walked past him with Nancy by your side as she was explaining to you what happened at dinner at her house.
Barb was by your other side as she listened and noticed Steve gaze on you for a moment before it shifted over to Nancy. You moved a piece of hair behind your ear and for the first time, Steve had noticed the butterfly earring you had on.
It was small.
He was too busy in his daze to notice that Tommy was trying to get his attention.
“ Nancy Wheeler?” Tommy chewed his gum as he asked, “ you like the smart once, huh?” Steve glanced over at his supposedly friend and blinked his eyes. “ What? No, who’s the other one?” He asked motioned to you. “ Butterfly girl” he added pointing to your earrings. Carol made her way over to put her arms around Tommy.
“ That’s Y/N, she’s kinda boring. You don’t need to talk to her” Carol waved her hand.
“ She’s smart like Wheeler over there, those two are together all the time” Steve hummed as he raced over where you were walking with Nancy while Barb left for class. One arm went around Nancy while the other arm went around you.
Nancy’s cheeks flushed as she looked over to see who’s arm was around her. Steve Harrington. Your eyebrow rose in question.
“ Can we help you?” You asked. It was like music to Steve’s ears at the sound of your voice. Nancy giggled thinking Steve was all over her, but it was you that caught his attention.
“ What are you doing later?” Steve asked you. Nancy pouted that his attention was on you and not her. She fixed her hair and made sure there was nothing on her face as she carried her books close to her chest.
You had your books with you too.
“ Can I carry your books for you?” He asked offering his hands after he removed his arm from around your shoulder.
“ Homework and no thank you, I got it” you tell him as you waved to Nancy heading to the door where your class was. Steve turned to Nancy, “ So what are you doing later?” He smirked. Nancy scoffed as she threw his arm off his shoulder and heading off to her class.
“ What? What did I say?” He asked watching her back as she walked away from him. He sighed and turned around walking back to Tommy and Carol. “ What a miss..” Tommy chuckled as he playfully punched Steve in the arm.
Steve glared at him making Tommy stop smiling.
“ Oh come on man, that was a joke” Steve rolled his eyes walking away from those two.
The next time Steve Harrington saw you was when he climbed the window of Nancy’s house to sneak into her bedroom but stopped seeing you sitting on the bed with Nancy.
You were painting her nails, the small of your tongue peeking out. You were focusing on painting your friends nails and not paying attention that Steve Harrington was watching you from the window. He lowered his head and didn’t want to get caught.
“ I’m telling you he likes me” Nancy gushed as she thought of Steve. You looked up at her face for a brief moment seeing the love sick look on her face. She had a thing for Steve, badly. You didn’t know what she saw in him.
“ I’ll believe it when I see it” you mumbled, getting back to painting her nails. She playfully pushed at your shoulder messing up her nails. You laughed, and took a tissue to clean it up.
“ Look at what you made me do”
“ You’re just jealous” she says. “ You want it to be you”
“ No, thank you. You can deal with all of that”
“ What is that suppose to mean?” You sighed closing the cap off the nail polish.
“ He’s not really a nice guy, he’s quite a party boy and-“ Nancy cut you off as she stood up from her bed with her hands spread out that the nails would dry.
“ Well, what if I want to party once in a while. I don’t wanna be cooped up and study all the time” she paced around her room, fuming with anger. “ I’m not you” she says. You frowned as you grabbed onto your bag from her bed.
“ I didn’t mean it like that” Nancy says trying to come to the other side of her bed to stop you from leaving. “ I’m sorry” she apologizes. “ I just don’t want you to be like this” she says.
“ Be like what Nancy?” She frowned and stood back at the loss of words. She didn’t want to lose you. Your her best friend along with Barb. There are pictures of you three together on her wall.
“ I’m going home” you tell her. “ See you tomorrow” her eyes become teary as she follows you to her door. “ Y/N, I’m sorry” she says. You ignore her, walking down the steps. Mrs. Wheeler comes from the kitchen to see what the commotion is about.
What’s going on girls?” She asks. “ What’s wrong, Y/N?” She asks seeing the troubled look on your face.
“ Don’t worry about it Mrs. Wheeler. Thank you for having me as always” you send her a smile, tugging on your bag as you head to the door. Mrs. Wheeler turns to her daughter to talk to her as Nancy looks at you walking out her door.
You closed the door, wiping away the tears that had fallen down your cheeks all of sudden and headed down the path.
“ Hey” a voice stops you. Your startled as you jump at the sound of it. The figure emerges into the light and you see that it’s Steve.
“ What are you doing here?” You asked I’m, fixing the bag strap on your shoulder.
“ I came to see Nancy” he says with a shrug. In reality he knows your not interested in him like he wants you to be.
As badly as he wants you to talk to him, to hang out with him and to kiss him, hold his hand. Anything. He doesn’t push it and instead he thinks Nancy is the better option.
“ Oh, good luck with that” you nodded your head about to head home when he stops you again. “ Do you need a ride home?” He asks, his tone is gentle. It sounds like he cares.
“ No, I can walk” you motion down the road. “ It’s not far” he looks towards the empty street, it’s getting late and he thinks it’s better that he drives you home.
“ Let me drive you home” he says. “ My car is over there” your eyes snap over to his BMW that’s parked on the curb. “ What about Nancy?” You looked up at her window to see the curtain was moving as if telling you she was watching you.
“ I’ll see her another time” he shrugs as his hand slides into his pocket to get his keys. He fishes them out and shows you that he’s willing to drive you home. That it’s no problem to him.
“ Thank you” you nod, accepting the ride from him. You follow him to his car where he opens the passenger side door. “ In you go” he says.
“ Thanks” you sit into his car and right away your nose is hit with warmth, laundry detergent and something else that you can’t put your finger on it. He gets into the driver side and turns on the car. You have never been in a space as close as this with Steve Harrington.
When he dives off towards your house, he can’t help but look at you every time the light from the street lamp would hit you and he’d notice the small crinkle of your nose wrinkle or the way you put your hair behind your ear.
“ You do that a lot” he says, turning back on the road. You turned to look at him with confusion on your face.
“ Put your hair behind your ear” he answers your confusion.
“ Have you been watching me?” You asked. Suddenly Steve is stuttering like he has seen a ghost and he doesn’t know what to say. It’s like a deer lost in head lights. A chuckle erupts from you seeing the reaction on his face.
“ Relax, I’m not quizzing you or anything” He gripped on the steering wheel tightened as he nodded driving down your street. He knows where you live. He has passed by it a few times on the way.
“ Thank you for the ride” the car comes to a stop by your house. You turned to him when you unbuckle your seat belt.
That small smile you sent him sends his brain spiraling because he doesn’t know how to handle it.
Does he smile back?
Does he say something?
Is it going to make him look stupid? All the questions run through his mind.
“ Goodnight” you mumble seeing that he wasn’t going to say anything and you thought for just that brief moment, you saw a sparkle in his eyes.
“ Goodnight” Steve says after clearing his throat and leans into his seat. You unlock the door and grabbed your bag from below you and close the door gently knowing how guys didn’t like the doors being slammed to their cars.
Steve watches you walk up the steps to your house and unlock the front door before driving off.
After the night, things have changed between you and Nancy. The friendship wasn’t really there and things began to change.
Barb had went missing, the look on Nancy’s face when you saw her that day was a look of guilt. Something has happened and you had no idea what.
You brought the photo down that hung inside of your locker. It was you, Barb and Nancy all smiling at the camera. That was the day you three claimed to be the best friends.
Your finger hovered over Barbs face as a tear shed down your cheek. You wiped it away thinking someone was bound to see you crying. Something has happened to Barb and you were sure Nancy knew about it.
It didn’t came unnoticed that she had stopped being around Steve and her main focus was being more around Jonathan.
He was shy. You always saw him be to himself and didn’t really make any friends. You knew his brother was missing as well and he must be feeling so hopeless with the look on his face and the poster he made of Will.
Later that day you were out for a walk in the forest after finishing your homework and letting your parents know you’d be back home soon when you heard voices not too far ahead.
You followed them and came across Jonathan and Nancy. Your eyebrows knitted together trying to hear what they were talking about.
You tried to hear a bit closer but your foot catches on a twig which causes them to stop talking.
“ Who’s there?” Nancy calls out with a worry tone in her voice. She raises the gun in the air and aims it in the direction she heard the noise.
Jonathan looks around the trees with the motions of his head to try to see if he could see something. Chills ran up your spine as you close your eyes and reveal yourself to them.
“ Y/N?” She asked lowering the gun. “ What are you doing here?” She asked. “ Were you following us?”
You shook your head, “ No, just been taking a walk” you shrugged. The two look at each other in concern as if they don’t believe you. “ What are you doing out here?” You asked them this time.
“ Looking for Will” Jonathan softly speaks as he shoves his hands into the pockets of his jacket. “ We’re looking for Will” Nancy says more certain, nodding her head. “ In the dark?” You questioned.
“ Well, you’re walking in the dark too” Jonathan says. “ Not really a time to be out here on your own” he adds.
“ I appreciate your concern Byers but you don’t know me”
“ Be nice to him Y/N” you rose your eyebrow at Nancy.
“ Oh? And all of sudden we’re making friends with Jonathan Byers” Nancy huffed. “ It’s better than whatever we have, some friendship” she chuckles. “ We haven’t talked in a while.”
“ I know” you responded with the words hung in the air like you have nothing else to talk to her about. “ Do you want to come along?” Jonathan ask. Nancy gives him a stern look like why would he ask you that all of sudden when he didn’t know you.
“ Yeah, sure. I got nothing else to do” you nodded your head. You join them as they continue to walk the way they were walking when you all three comes up on a deer that has been hurt.
“ Poor thing” you mumbled leaning down to take a closer look. “ It’s suffering” Nancy says kneeling down next to you.
“ We should put it out of it’s misery” she adds, “ I can’t do it though. You do it Y/N” she says handing you the gun.
You winced as you shook your head not really wanting to do it, another hand took the gun away from your grasp.
“ I’ll do it” Jonathan says. The both of you stood up and held onto each other, looking away bit peeking at it but suddenly the deer was gone out of your sight.
There was trail of blood leaving after it.
“ What was that? Where did it go?” You asked. “ You go this way” Jonathan said pointing one way, he points the other too for you and then says, “ I’ll go this way.”
Nancy hands you something from the bag before Jonathan leave for your own safety and sends you a look.
“ Be careful”
“ You too” you tell her, nodding your head and head down towards the direction Jonathan had pointed out earlier.
You slowly side steps on the leaves and held onto your breath as your hands shook. Something was out there. You could feel it. You had chills down your arms. You hadn’t gotten far as you wanted as you heard scream.
“ Nancy?!” You shouted running into the direction you heard the scream, Jonathan had the same idea shouting Nancy’s name.
“ Nancy?!” You shouted coming up to a tree that had a hole of what looks like a jelly substance. You had no idea what it was but something told you to go in there.
“ That’s so gross if your in there Nance” you took a deep breathe and stuck your hand into the jelly like substance and pushed your way in there with your body.
You gasped coming up to the similar forest that you just came from but this time there was coldness that you felt here. Not a friendly one.
Nancy had saw you from the other side of where she was hiding, her eyes were wide noticing that you hadn’t yet noticed the deer being eaten by a monster.
Your eyebrows knitted together seeing her as she waved her arms in a go away motion but you turned around and your breath caught in your throat.
There was a monster eating a deer hunched over it. It was big. Your breathed stopped and your heart crashed to your stomach, you slowly backed away thinking if you did then it wouldn’t notice you but you had knocked over something.
The monster turned around hearing the sound. Your eyes were wide as saucers seeing it stood tall.
“ Y/N, run!” Nancy shouted as she ran from her spot to grab onto your hand as the two of you ran. You had hoped the master wasn’t fast enough to get the two of you though.
“ What is that?” You shouted to her in hopes that she would have an answer for you. She doesn’t as she runs, tugging your hand.
“ Jonathan??!” She shouts for him. Jonathan on the other side looks around when a hand appears in front of him in the jelly substance that you went through. He cringes but grabs onto the hand and tugs really hard to get Nancy out.
“ Jonathan!” She shouts in relief seeing him, but something happens and she lets go of your hand.
“ Y/N!” She shouts quickly turning around, “ I just had her by her hand!” She shouts with panic in her voice.
“ I can’t lose her” she says. You fall on your back seeing the monster screech at you as it opens like a flower with teeth.
“ Oh god..” You mumble to yourself, scrambling back. You heard both Jonathan and Nancy call out your name but you were numb as a rock seeing the creature comes closer and closer to you.
You clenched your eyes shut in hopes that it wouldn’t get you. You weren’t ready to die.
A pair of hands reach out to tug you through the jelly substance as best as they can.
You pant and panic as your pulled through. You were alive. Both Jonathan and Nancy had saved you.
Your body falls on the ground as your chest breathe heavily looking up at the trees swaying in the wind. Your heart is racing against your rib cage like no tomorrow and you think that is the worst experience in your life that you have ever experienced.
Nancy hovers above you as she hugs you tight.
“ I thought I lost you” she says. Your own hands embrace her as your still shock seeing a creature like that.
Not in the million years you have ever seen that. When you get back to Nancy’s house, she says Jonathan will stay with her. She’s too scared if that thing will come after her.
She says for you to call her as soon as you come home.
When you walk down the path to her house, you take notice of the figure with his head hang in anger.
“ Steve?” You call his name out. His head raises as his face softens.
“ What are you doing here?” You asked him.
“ Could ask you the same thing, buttercup” you winced at the nickname which you never liked.
“ That’s not really your concern” he winces at your tone now. He puts his hands out as he makes his way to the car which you saw contained Carol and Tommy.
“ You walking home?” He asked.
“ What does it look like, Harrington?” He hummed.
“ If your going to use that tone with me than I won’t offer you a ride home” he says. He pats the BMW and looks over at you.
“ I didn’t ask for one” he sighs as he looks towards Nancy’s house then back at you. “ Get in the car” he says. You give him a look and at Tommy and Carol.
“ They are harmless” he says pointing to them. “ They won’t bite” he adds, with a chuckle. “ I won’t either, unless you ask” he thinks he’s brighten up the mood but you don’t laugh. He clears his throat.
“ Fine, this is the last time your giving me a ride, Harrington”
“ As you wish, princess” he chuckles. You make your way into the passenger side and get in sending a look towards Tommy and Carol.
“ Not a word” he says to Tommy and Carol.
“ What are you going to do with smart princess in there?” Tommy asks motioning to the house. Something in the car has changed and Steve grew quite as he gripped the steering wheel tight.
“ Oh there is something come to her” Steve says, bitter in his tone. You looked over at Steve seeing the sad look on his face. What did he see?
The next time you saw Steve Harrington was when he came knocking on the Byers house wanting to talk to Nancy. He felt like a jerk for what he did, both you, Jonathan and Nancy rushed him into the home.
“ What is going on?” Steve asked when you three tried to get him to talk.
Suddenly the walls began to move and Steve backed away in fair pointing to it, “ What is that?” He asked in frantic.
“ This is too much” he adds making his way to the door when the monster out of the wall began to emerge.
You had your own weapon ready to fight that thing off and for the first time Steve’s heart raced at the thought of something happening to you.
He took a deep breathe as made his way back and stood by your side, he had a bat with nails on them. He raised it up before the creature emerged from the walls scaring you all.
“ Come on” shouted Nancy as she took your hand, running after Jonathan and Steve was running after you too as you all ran into a room.
You had no idea what the thing was and you were the one who stood closest to the door watching if the monster was going to come through.
Steve glanced over at you seeing that you stood there in front of them acting brave and something there in him told you, he found you so attractive in that moment.
Your hand reached for the door handle.
“ What are you doing?” Jonathan asked.
“ What does it look like?” Jonathan and Nancy had set up a trap for the monster that it would be caught in a bear trap.
You stuck your head out to see the hallway was empty and you could hear it coming from the kitchen. It was there. You know it was there.
“ Y/N, let me go first” Steve mutters as he tries to pull you back in by your sweater but it was no use because you were already heading out to the kitchen.
“ Is she okay?” Steve asked you, “ Why is she going out there alone?” Steve peeked his head mumbling for you to be careful while you slowly stepped over the trap and headed to the kitchen.
The monster sat there as it listened to any sounds. Your head peeked around the corner and the sound of your sneaker had altered that you were there.
His mouth opened like a flower that you have seen before, with teeth and was ready to pounce at you when you panicked heading back to the room.
Nancy, Jonathan and Steve screamed for you to get back with the monster behind you. You yelped feeling it get closer and closer, but then the trap shut on and it was caught. You halted from running and turned around to see that indeed it was caught. Steve emerged with his bat and he swung at it a couple times.
“ Light it up” Nancy says while she grabs you by the sleeve and tugs you in the room.
Your hand grabbed onto Steve and tugged him back into the room as the monster lit on fire, screeching in pain while you all waited in the room. Once you thought it was enough, Nancy threw the door opened following by Jonathan as he grabbed the fire extinguisher to put it out. There was nothing left of the monster but there was a large black stain on the floor.
You didn’t realize but you were holding onto Steve.
The next thing you knew was you were in the hospital with Steve, Nancy, Jonathan, Joyce, Hopper and everyone else that your eyes landed on waiting on Will to wake up.
He had been found and you were just waiting for him to wake up. Steve leaned in his chair over looking at Nancy and Jonathan as the both of them sit by each other and then he looks over at you.
“ What a night, huh?” He says. He tried to make a joke to make you laugh but you looked away and glanced at your hands.
Your leg kept bouncing and you picked at your nails in order to distract yourself. “ Hey” he gently placed a hand on your leg preventing you from keeping your leg from bouncing.
“ It’s okay” he says. The warmth through his hand spread through your body giving you comfort. Your eyes locked with his and the small smile gave you enough of comfort.
“ He’s awake” Joyce and Jonathan says, the boys that you found out to know them by as Mike, Dustin and Lucas all ran to Will’s room while your head landed onto Steve’s shoulders as he lowered in his seat, his eyes felt heavy and the scent of you brought him comfort.
That all erases when it’s Christmas time around, your heart sinks watching as Nancy comes to cuddle Steve on the couch.
Looks like they were a thing again.
You sighed to yourself and walked into the kitchen grabbing a Christmas cookie off one of the plates while your mom turns to you and brings you to her side, sending you a smile while you break down the cookie looking back into the living room to see Nancy’s head resting on Steve shoulder.
Steve felt eyes on him and he turned to look to see it was you who’s been watching.
His heart sinks for a moment thinking that moment in the hospital but brushes it off as he kisses on top of Nancy’s head.
The next time you see Steve is when Nancy bounced over to Jonathan to give him an invitation to a party.
While she’s chatting away with him, Steve notices you by your locker putting away your books. He leans on his shoulder against the lockers.
“ You coming to the party?” He asks. You slammed your locker door shut, seeming uninterested by his question or his words. “ No thanks” you mumble closing your bag.
“ Why not? Why do you have to a party pooper?”
“ Should you be with your girlfriend?” Steve glances over to see Nancy still talking to Jonathan and turns back to look at you but your already walking away from him.
He huffed and runs over to Nancy. You didn’t really know why you were planning to go to the stupid party anyways.
Maybe, just maybe you wanted to impress Steve and he’d take notice. But he seems to be too wrapped up being lover boy with Nancy.
“ Where you going tonight, hunny?” Your mom asked you as she sits on the couch watching some television before going to bed. You emerged in the outfit you had chosen for the party.
“ Just out with some friends, don’t stay up and wait. I want you to get some sleep. You have that interview tomorrow which you’ll ace by the way” you tell her, making your way over to her and pressing a kiss to her cheek.
“ I love you” she says.
“ I love you too” you smile at her before walking out the door and taking your bike. You knew where the party was being held and it wasn’t as far as you thought.
You passed the place many times before on the way to school. You arrived ten minutes later leaving your bike on the grass.
No one would even take a bike at a party.
You fixed your skirt that you were wearing and headed to the door where teenagers passed you, some were singing and already drinking from a red cup.
Half the school was already at the party, there were some that you didn’t know and there was some that knew your name and said hi to you sometimes.
You nodded at one of your classmates as they nodded back at you.
“ Funny seeing you here” you heard a small voice. Your head turned meeting a shy looking Jonathan.
“ Hi Jonathan” he had his hands in the front pockets of his pants as he looked around. He had a panic look on his face.
“ I didn’t think you are the party type” he shook his head, his cheeks flushing red as he looked around tying to spot Nancy.
He spotted her right away and his smile dropped seeing Steve by her side. The two were dancing and look like they were having a good time.
“ You both stand out like sore thumbs” someone said to you while looking between you and Jonathan.
“ Aren’t you suppose to be drinking or something?” You asked. “ Buzz off” you mumbled shoving their shoulder.
“ Don’t mind that one” you tell Jonathan, “ people are weird” he nodded his head as his eyes never left Nancy.
You looked over his direction seeing Nancy was by the punch bowl drinking more than usual.
“ Oh she’s going to feel that tomorrow” you mumble. Jonathan swayed on his feet back and forth as he grimace knowing you were right.
Steve had stopped dancing noticing that Nancy was drinking too much and you saw he was trying to stop her but ended up spilling the punch on her shirt. She mumbled something to him and left while he followed her like a lost puppy.
You were making your way through the crowd trying to get some fresh air outside when the door opened and Steve stormed out looking like he was about to cry.
You turned around to follow him to make sure he was okay. You found him standing just outside his BMW leaning against it with his head in his hands. You never seen him like this before.
“ Steve?” You called out to him. He dropped his head from his hands and looked away, not wanting you to see him cry about a girl. Especially Nancy. “ Steve..” You called out to him placing a hand on his shoulder.
He stiffed at your touch and didn’t turn around but hung his head feeling ashamed of letting his emotions be seen like this.
“What’s wrong?” You asked, rubbing at his shoulder to help him calm down. But it only made his shoulder shake as he shook his head.
Instead, he quickly turned around and wrapped his arms around you, and buried his face into the crook of your neck. You were shocked at first but wrapped your arms around him and rubbing his back to see if you could make him feel better.
“ She doesn’t love me anymore” he mumbles. “ What?” You asked, making sure you heard him correctly. He pulled away from your neck that you can see his tears streaming down his cheeks. His bottom lip was in a pout.
“ She doesn’t love me anymore” he repeated making sure you heard him correctly this time.
Your eyes widen but your face softened. “ Oh Steve” he shrugged like he has nothing else to say. His heart felt like it was ripped out of his chest.
“ What do you say we get some Benny’s?” You offered.
“ I’ll pay” you added. He wiped his nose with the back of his sleeve of his nice jacket he was wearing and shook his head.
“ I can’t let you do that” he says.
“ Steve come on, you need comfort food and I know I might not be the best person to get food with or hang out with” Steve shook his head again.
“ The best person” you gently smiled at him. “ Can I drive?” You asked. “ I kinda took my bike here” his eyes grew wide as he shook his head again.
‘ No way I am letting you drive my car”
“ You’ve been drinking Steve” He scrunches up his eyebrows together and mumbled, “ no.” You had your hand out for him to put his keys in it and he sighed putting the keys in your hand.
“ Fine, but were also getting milkshakes”
“ Deal” you helped him get into the passenger side of his car before hopping into the driver seat. “ Look who’s being the passenger princess” he groaned as he shot you a playful glare.
“ Shut up” you chuckled starting the car and driving off. You had forgotten your bike and you were sure it was still going to be there the next morning if you went to get it.
Steve wasn’t really too drunk but he saw the way you cared about him, even though Nancy broke his heart. Something tugged him that this was the moment he knew, you were going to be the best part of his life.
Things become more interesting when you tell Steve to bring Nancy flowers and talk to her about how he feels but he gets stopped a kid you recognize at the hospital. You slide out of Steve’s car confused on who this is.
“ I’m sorry, who are you?” You asked curly cap kid who smiles sweetly at you.
‘ Oh hi! I’m Dustin, you must be Y/N” he says offering his hand to you. You take it and shake it while giving Steve a look.
“ He’s one of the good kids, okay?” Steve says pinching the bridge of his nose. “ Do you still have your nail bat?” Dustin asked.
“ Yeah, why?”
“ Why do you need to know?” You asked. Dustin puts his hands up and rushes to Steve car.
“ No time to explain, get in” Steve sends you a look and you give him one back.
“ Now!” Dustin shouts. Steve grumbles underneath his breath and rushes to the car. “ Hey! What about me?” You throw your hands up. “ Sorry!” They both shout as they drive off leaving you standing there.
“ Boys” you shake your head.
You didn’t seem them for awhile until you ended up on the front door of the Byers house demanding to know why you were being left out in the dark all of sudden.
Nancy has been avoiding you.
Steve has been avoiding you. It was like you were a ghost to them.
“ I know you guys are in there” you rose your fist in the air to bang on the door when it flew opened to reveal Steve standing there with his hands on his hips. “ Not right now Y/N” he says.
“ Just go home” he says.
Your face dropped and looked behind him to see Dustin waving at you when he got pulled back by a girl with orange hair.
You turned back to look at Steve as he ran a hand through his hair.
“ Look Y/N, you need to go home and we can talk about this later” you refused to go home and pushed past him into the house.
“ Who is she?” One of the kids asked.
“ That’s Y/N, Nancy used to be best friends with her” Mike says. “ Hi Y/N”
“ Hey” you waved to him. “ She’s cool” Mike said to the rest of them.
“ She’s nice too” Dustin added which you threw him a small smile. You noticed there were drawings everywhere of some sort of thing.
“ What in the hell-“ you mumbled out but you were cut off when you heard the sound of the car. The red hair girl grew in panic.
“ That’s Billy” she says, “ he’s going to be mad when he finds I’m here”
“ Y/N, hide them. I’ll handle it” Steve says as he walks outside to face Billy who’s looking at him with a questionable look on his face.
You hide underneath the window as the kids follow you hiding behind the couch.
“ Stay down” you hissed at them.
They were trying to peek through the window and you were too seeing Billy shove Steve down and tell him something before the door flies open.
The kids run to the other room and you stood in front of them with your hands out. Your over protectiveness coming out even though you didn’t know these kids that long.
“ Who are you?” Billy asked as he eyed you up and down.
“ My name is Y/N” something in Billy’s eyes flashed as he grins widely. “ You must be one of Steve’s bitches than” he says.
“ Excuse me?” He looks towards his step sister Max, “ I thought I told you to stay away” he looks at Lucas with a glare.
“ Go away “ Max said to him.
“ I believe I said something” you stood in front of Max, glare on your face facing Billy. He smirked and looks you up and down.
“ Step aside princess, I don’t have time to deal with you just yet” he smirks.
“ Now you know what happens when you disobey me” he turns to his step sister. He sneers at Lucas and as he reached to grab him, you pushed at him making him stumble into the kitchen table.
He caught himself before he could fall, and looks at you surprise.
“ Oh the pretty girl likes it rough” he chuckles, before he sneers, “ Listen here Y/N. I don’t have beef with you. Step aside and let me handle it.”
“ You’re not handling anything” your jaw tightened with fist by your side.
“ Go Y/N!” Dustin and Mike yelled. Max looks at you surprised since no one ever stood up to Billy while Lucas cheers you on as well. Where was Steve though?
He points towards Lucas, “ You better stay away from my step sister or I’ll come find you.”
“ Not on my watch, sugar tits” he stomps his way up to you and gets in your face.
“ Oh yeah? What are you going to do about it?” He asked, ready for you to slap him in the face when he got turned around and it was Steve.
“ This” Steve threw his fist at Billy’s face. Billy stumbled back while the kids latched onto your back looking over your back watching Steve and Billy go at it.
“ Looks like you have that fire in your after all, Harrington” Billy says. “ Everyone wanted me to meet the King Steve they all gush about” Billy’s nose was bleeding as he waved his hands.
They went back and forth until Steve got hit with a plate and he stumbled into the living room.
You and the kids cheered on for Steve to hit Billy, but it looks like Steve wasn’t winning the fight. Billy kept punching him angrily on top of him.
You rushed over to try to get Billy off of Steve when Billy grabbed onto your hair yanking it causes you to wince and he elbowed you in the face too sending you stumbling on the other side of the room.
You had no idea what was happening next feeling your nose gushing with blood. You winced for a moment and tilted your head back and felt a pair of small hands on your back.
“ Are you okay, Y/N?” Someone asked, you noticed the voice belonged to Dustin. You threw him a thumbs up and turned around seeing Billy on the ground with Max towering over him saying to stay away from her friends which included you.
“ Max” she says to you, introducing herself.
“ Y/N” you mumbled to her. She nodded with small smile as if saying thanks for trying to get Billy away from them. Steve was laying on the ground.
“ What are we doing to do with that one?” You pointed to Steve.
“ I’m driving” Max says as she fishes Steve’s keys from his pockets.
You snatched them away from her looking at her like she has two heads. “ Absolutely not” you tilted your head back. She huffed.
“ I am not dragging doofus over there” she points down to Steve.
The next things she knew was you and the kids were dragging Steve to his car into the backseat. “ Where am I going anyways?”
‘ Just drive, we will direct you” you looked at the kids unsurely.
“ Just drive Y/N” Max says.
Everything felt like a blur after that, it wasn’t until StarCourt burned out that you rushed to find out what’s been going on.
You had distance yourself from the kids, Steve and Nancy. It was getting too much that you stopped interacting with them and even in school you refused to look them in the eye.
Billy had stopped talking to you too, he wasn’t even showing up in school the past couple of days.
Your breathe caught in your throat when you saw a figure emerge near the ambulance dressed in a Scoop’s Ahoy outfit, his hair was all over the place and his face had blood and bruises on it.
Your heart skipped a beat seeing the exhausted look on his face. A girl put a blanket around his shoulders as he silently thanked her with a soft nod from him. He sat on the steps of the ambulance with his head in his hands.
Your breath caught in your throat when he looked up and his direction vision was on you.
You didn’t know weather you should run over to him or stay your ground.
He rose from the steps of the ambulance with a shocked look on his face. Steve thought he was seeing things.
That you weren’t really there. He was heart broken when you shut him out and it hurt him to see you standing there. The blanket fell off his shoulders.
His mouth ran dry as the girl next to him with short hair tried to get his attention.
She also was in a Scoops Ahoy outfit and shook his shoulder before her eye of vision landed on you.
Steve’s feet picked up as he raced towards where you stood. You don’t know what came over you as you threw your hands around him and hugged him tight.
You smelled the iron on him and the sweat too. His hands wrapped themselves around you and bringing you close. He breathed in your scent.
He didn’t care about seeing Nancy and Jonathan in the ambulance and that they were okay.
He didn’t care that Robin was watching him hug you tight. He didn’t care where he was at the moment, the only thing he cared about is having you in his arms and seeing that you were still real as he remembered.
He pulled away with tears running down his cheeks, he could taste the blood and salt from his tears mixed on his lips.
He didn’t like the taste of it but he was happy to see you were here.
You really were.
“ You’re here” he mumbles. He didn’t care how much he was in pain and tired of all of it, from everything. He cared only that he was having this moment.
With you.
He cupped your face with both his hands. “ You’re really here” he says
“ I’m here” the sound of your voice soothed I’m in a way, he closed his eyes as he pulled you close to him once again.
You could feel his heart facing. That moment Steve realized he had been over Nancy. It’s been you he’s been waiting all along. It’s been you that he felt the most him. It was you.
That night after Starcourt, things between you and Steve has changed. He drove you around.
He brought you flowers.
He spend most of his free time with you if he wasn’t working.
After Start Court has burned down, you were working with him and Robin who he introduced you too and you became really good friends with her.
Nancy and you have somewhat fixed your friendship, Dustin been looking at you like his own sister and introduced you to his mom too.
You’ve created a bond with the kids, episodically Max too and comforted her after her step brother Billy has passed away.
It seems like the monsters in Hawkins weren’t staying away like you had hoped too.
You were introduced to the girl Eleven that Mike was in love with. She had powers which you weren’t surprised when it came to Hawkins anymore.
This time, the monster was different and one of your classmates that you had a couple of classes with, Eddie had joined the gang and he’s been gone to hiding because the cops were after him as the town was thinking he killed your other classmate, Chrissy Cunningham.
“ You know I didn’t do it” Eddie says sitting in the corner of the boat house that he’s been hiding at.
You were staying with him until the rest of the gang returned with food and drinks for him.
“ I know” you nodded, you offered him a small smile.
“ Do you want a hug?” You noticed the way he was hugging his knees to his chest and those brown eyes of his were really sad.
You wanted to make it all better to him.
You stood up from where you were sitting and made your way over to him as he hesitantly wrapped his arms around your waist and buried his head into your neck.
He wasn’t used to affection of any kind and this was nice. He liked this.
“ How long have you and Harrington like each other?” He asks all of sudden.
“ What?” He pulled his head away from and looks up at you with a chuckle. “ You can’t be serious right now” you shrugged looking at him like you have no idea what he’s been talking about.
“ Steve does not like me in that way” you shook your head, stepping back and putting your hair behind your ear. A heat of red appears on your cheeks.
“ He does, you’re too blind to see it” he chuckles. The door swung open to reveal Robin, Dustin, Steve and Max with food and beer for Eddie who looked revealed to see them.
Steve rose his eyebrow looking between you and Eddie, a hint of jealousy in his tone as he speaks.
“ Are we interrupting something?” He asks, his jaw clenching holding the bag tight in his hands.
“ Relax jealous Casanova, I’m not stealing your girl” Eddie says looking through the bags that Dustin gave to him. Your eyes grew wide and Steve’s did too as red appeared on his cheeks.
“ She’s not my girl” Eddie eyed the two of you with a smirk on his face. Max rolled her eyes.
“ Ew” Dustin says. “ No way” Dustin didn’t believe the two of you had a thing for each other but it was clear as the day to the rest of them.
You moved to the corner of the room grabbing yourself a snack and sitting on the ground with your legs spread out as the rest were talking to Eddie or each other while you wanted to be alone.
“ You okay?” You heard Steve ask as he stood in front of you with a concerned look on his face.
“ You know, back there” he pointed behind him. “ Eddie didn’t really mean it, you know” Steve sounded disappointed when he spoke, you can tell the sadness in his tone. It broke your heart just hearing it.
“ He didn’t?” You asked. Steve stopped talking as he took your expression in which contained surprise and hope. That hope that he saw gave him the hope that pushed him to mutter his next words.
“ I mean, maybe it was true” he added, swallowing the lump in his throat that has been begging to go down. He felt his stomach tightened like he was ready to throw up all his words and feelings.
“ Is it true or not?” You asked, standing off the ground and dusting yourself off as your snack was left behind when you face Steve.
He looked back at the gang seeing them watching the two of you while Eddie shoved mouthful of food in his mouth. Your nose scrunched up, and chuckled.
“ You do know what chewing is?” You asked him. He nodded but moved his hand like he was telling you to continue.
“ Alright” Steve says. “ This isn’t a show or entertainment” he says taking you by the wrist and dragging out the door.
“ Use protection!” Eddie shouted. You heard Steve grumbled as he continue to walk a few feet away before he stopped and turned around.
“ Look I know the situation isn’t that great at the moment to talk about this with everything that has happened and everything we have been through” you nodded knowing he’s talking about everything you two been through the monsters and the things you both seen.
He glanced at the ground like he’s having a hard time to look at you right now. It bothered him how much he was trying to say what he wanted to say but it wasn’t coming out.
“ Steve, it’s me. Talk to me” he nodded, closing his eyes.
“ That’s it, it is you and the thought of losing you.. it scares me the most” he says raising his head up meeting your gaze.
You saw the fear in his eyes. Your hands came to his shoulders, giving him a small squeeze.
“ You’re not going to lose me, Steve. Never” the words seemed to ease him as he softly smiled.
“ I like you, I like you a lot Y/N and I don’t know what I would do with myself if something ever happened to you”
“ Nothing is going to happened to me Steve. Not when I have you by my side… them too” you motion to the door. Steve was waiting for the same words that he told you to come from you.
“ I like you too, Steve. Don’t look so frightened” he rolled his eyes and playfully pushed your shoulder.
“ You’re the best thing that had happened to me” His cheeks flushed red as he was loss at words feeling his heart fluttering.
“ Are you going to kiss or what?” You heard.
Both you and Steve turned your heads to see them watching, it was Robin who said it as she waved her hands in motion for you to get it going already. Steve turned back at you and rose his eyebrow.
You wanted your first kiss with Steve to be special. But feeling his presence, just having him look at you like this, having him right there was special to you.
You grabbed the collar of his jacket and brought his face closer to yours.
“ What are you waiting for, Harrington?” You asked.
“ Waiting for you to say it” he says, his breath fanning over your face. “ Kiss me” was all the words he needed to hear as he leaned down pressing his lips softly to yours.
There were sparks flying between the two of you. You heard cheering and “ews” coming from your friends but you didn’t care, you had finally the man you wanted all along.
He was yours.
You didn’t know what happened after that as things gone to worse, Max got cursed as she was next on Vecna’s list.
You were too much worried about her and Steve was too that the both of you hadn’t had the time to spend together.
Eddie wasn’t really in the clear either, Chrissy was gone, Patrick was gone and Fred too.
Everything was going downhill and the next thing you knew Steve was driving the RV, you were ready for battle and to end this all. You were exhausted and just wanted your friends to be safe, you wanted to feel normal again and you wanted to spend time with Steve.
But, you watched as Nancy sat up from with him as the two of them talked.
You had no idea if Jonathan and Nancy were still dating but something you saw the way Steve looked at Nancy for that brief moment, jealousy ran though you.
Your hand gripped tighter on your weapon.
“ He doesn’t love her” Eddie says noticing your angry look on your face. “ Huh?” You turned to glance at him.
“ Steve doesn’t love her” he says it again, motioning with his head towards them in the front. You shrugged and looked away not wanting to talk about it anymore.
You had bigger things on your mind right now. Everything went in such a blurb after that. It wasn’t until you held Eddie in your arms as he bled out telling you how he didn’t run away this time.
“ Oh Eddie, you can’t leave us” you shook your head. He locked eyes with you, while Dustin sobbed sitting besides you. He couldn’t believe what is happening.
“ We can get you to a hospital” Eddie shook his head as he winced in pain.
“ You are not done being my best friend, Eddie Munson. This is your year. Do you hear me? I am not letting you die on me. On Dustin. On anyone. You hear me?” Eddie winced but he nodded his head.
You slowly gotten up and threw one arm over your shoulder while Dustin was on the other side. The both of you slowly helped Eddie to the gate. Steve, Nancy and Robin rushed over.
“ What happened?” Their eyes widen at the blood staining Eddie’s shirt.
“ Don’t ask questions, we need to get him to the hospital. We can’t lose him, he’s our best friend” you said through your tears. “ please” you begged them. Steve rushed over to where Dustin was and took his spot as he helped you.
Eddie hung his head, “ Eddie!” You shouted. This time you took the RV and pressed on the gas racing to the hospital with Max too in the RV.
You felt the numbness in you but you weren’t going to lose your friends. It wasn’t their time.
Steve watched as you drove through your tears with a determined look on your face. In that moment he knew that you were the one for him.
The one he wants to have his six nuggets with. He had told Nancy that he was finally over her and that it was you that he’s been chasing after all along. She wasn’t surprised and wished him the best.
Eddie ended up being in a coma but he was going to be okay. Max was in a coma too, you had hope she would be okay too.
You didn’t know what to say or what to do anymore, you felt drained and after a week of trying to get back to yourself, you leaned on your boyfriend who finally held you for the first time in a long time.
“ It’s all okay” he says. “ They will be okay. Were are okay” he says, kissing your forehead. You snuggled into his chest asking him to hold you a little longer.
“ I’ll hold you till my last breath” he was trying to be sweet at the time but you shook your head, holding him tighter.
He understood what that meant, you were scared to lose him like you were about to lose Max and Eddie, your two best friends.
“Which box is this?” You snapped out of your thoughts looking over at your boyfriend as he brought a box in that wasn’t labeled anything.
It’s been only a couple of months since Eddie woke up and he was out of the hospital.
He doesn’t like to talk about his scars, but he knows that you were the one that didn’t leave him in the Upside Down to die.
He thanked you almost every day with a soft smile, a hug, even let you keep one of his rings he usually wears, sometimes offers you his jacket which Steve throws off and gives his making you laugh and Eddie was grateful to have you in his life.
Max was out of her coma too, but she was in a wheelchair with Lucas and his family looking after her.
Erica had grown close to her, and your friendship with her grew stronger and when she found out Eddie was going to die, she was devastated and felt bad she wasn’t there. But you reassured her that he was alive and she was too.
“ Honey?” He asked, dropping the box on the ground and he made his way over to you where you stood by one of the windows over looking the big van and your friends helping unload the trucks.
He wrapped his arms around your waist and put his head on your shoulder.
“ What got you so distracted?” He asked, kissing your clothed shoulder.
“ Just been thinking about everything, everything we have been through and how lucky we are to have each other and our friends” you turned around in his arms and threw your arms around his shoulders.
“ I’m the luckiest man to have such an amazing, the bravest, the most beautiful woman on this planet” he says, leaning down pecking your forehead.
Steve’s hair out grew a bit and he was getting a small stubble on his face too. It looked good on him.
Chattered filled your new home. Your friends walked through the door with boxes.
“ Where do you want these?” Dustin asked with a box labeled kitchen stuff on it.
You chuckled shaking your head, “ Have you read the box, Henderson?” Steve asked.
“ It says kitchen stuff.” Dustin chuckled as he read it.
“ Did you really need to bring all these records?” Robin asks carrying a box while Eddie was behind her carrying the other.
“ She has some good taste, Buckley” Robin nodded setting the box down for a moment, it was a bit heavy.
“ What’s wrong?” She noticed the teary look on your face.
“ What happened? Did Harrington say something? I could kick his ass” Eddie said placing the box down.
Steve glance down at you seeing the teary look on your face too.
“ What’s wrong, honey?” He asks.
“ I’m just happy to have you all with me, after everything we have been through together. Thank you for being a part of my life” you sniffed.
“ Awe” Robin says.
“ We love you too” Mike says as he walks into the house. “ Do you need all this crap?” He asks looking around the boxes on the ground.
“ Be nice” El says to him with a slap on his chest.
“ Those go upstairs” you tell your friends, motioning to each box. “ That’s in the kitchen” you pointed towards it with motion with your head to Dustin.
Once they all cleared out leaving you and Steve, “ you know I wouldn’t do this all again with anyone else but you, Stevie.”
He chuckled, “ Even if I was a jerk to you in the beginning?”
“ A hot jerk” he laughed, shaking his head.  “ I love you, honey”
“ I love you too, Stevie” Eddie ran down the steps holding a record in his hands as he raced towards you, “ break it up love birds. Come on, don’t be gross while we’re here” he shoved the record into your hands asking you to explain.
“ Oh this?” Your hands hovered over Ozzy Osborne’s name, and giggled.
“ Stevie got it a a gift to you but he left it at my house. I forgot I had it. Here” you offered it to him, “ it’s all yours.”
“ Harrington, I could kiss you right now” Steve grimace as he stepped back. “ Stay away from me, Munson.”
“ What? Afraid of some cooties?” He asked.  “ Come to Eddie” Eddie outstretched his hands and wiggled his fingers. “ Let me kiss that face”
“ Eddie..” Steve warned using you as a shield to back up. “ I said no” you were giggling watching this.
Eddie kept puckering his lips while Steve ran away with Eddie chasing him.
Steve was screaming for Eddie to get away while you laughed, joined by Dustin and Robin as the other joined giggling watching the two goof balls run around the house.
This was home to you. With your friends and the man you love. You wouldn’t change it for anything.

Can you write an angsty hurt/comfort fic about the wheeler siblings?
Mike was screaming at her. He was screaming himself hoarse as he tried to get her to leave. He threw an action figure at the wall beside her. When that didn’t make her flinch, he stepped forward, intent on shoving her out of his room. On any other day, she would have left long before it got to this point, grumbling about her weird brother with clear anger management issues. Not now. Today she would stand her ground. She wasn’t going to budge an inch.
For the first time, in far too long, she saw the pain in her brother’s eyes.
For the first time, she paid attention to more than his words, and worked to understand where all this frustration was coming from. It wasn’t rooted in anger like she’d thought for so long, but in pain and fear buried deep below the surface.
His reaction to their father’s words over dinner had finally unlocked something. The puzzle pieces all came together at once, making her sick to her stomach at the realization. Not the realization of who her brother was, but the realization of how little she’d stepped into the role of supportive older sibling throughout the last few years.
The blindness was gone, and she determined to never let it creep in again. She was not going to sit back and watch her little brother self-destruct alone. She’d go down with him if it came to that, but he was going to know he was loved if it was the last thing she did. He was going to know that his hurt and anger at the world was justified and understood.
No eleven year old should have ever suffered the heartache and trauma that he had. No child should have had to shoulder that alone, to pretend it never happened just because some Government Agent Assholes had declared it so. No little boy should have to suffer their father’s repeated homophobic remarks at the dinner table, making him feel so ashamed and scared that he struggled to admit his sexuality even to himself.
No, none of this had been acceptable. It could not go on this way any longer. Something had to change, and that something started with her opening her own heart back up to a sibling relationship with him again.
His voice had broken under the stress, and he went quiet. She knew this was not by choice. His tone was cold as ice as he strained to make himself heard. “Get Out. Please.”
“Not yet.”
She stepped forward to snake her arms around him before he could register her intentions, and pulled him into a hug.
“What’s wrong with you? Let go of me, weirdo, and get out of my freaking room!” He tried to pull away, but didn’t quite escape her grasp. He could have, if he had truly wanted to, she knew.
“I love you no matter what. You know that right?” She tried to put every ounce of sincerity she could into those words, desperate for him to really hear her and believe. Desperate to squeeze past those solid walls between them that they’d both been responsible for.
“Uh, yeah, sure, whatever.”
She released him, and stared directly into his eyes, needing him to fully understand. “There is nothing you could do or be that would ever make me love you less. I don’t think you understand what that means.” She smiled weakly, half joking but entirely serious as she continued, “I would bury a body for you. I would create a body to bury, to keep you safe. Something as small as who you love would never even faze me.”
He sucked in a startled breath. His mouth opened, but no sound escaped. Silence reigned for a number of moments.
Welp, that was probably more than enough vulnerability for the night for both of them. Small steps. She patted his arm awkwardly, then backed out of the room. “Anyway-” she rushed out, “Just wanted to let you know that. You can talk to me about anything. Ok, goodnight. Sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite.” She shut his door in his face before rushing to her own room. She was emotionally spent, and embarrassed by her fumbling attempts to support him. She felt as adept as a newborn lamb. Hopefully something she’d done had gotten through to him.
Her sleep was restless, but when she awoke the next morning to a note under her door, her heart lightened considerably.
“You too - Mike”
|—---------Hug #2-----------|
For a moment, Mike could only stare. He was shocked speechless at the overwhelming despair in his sister’s voice.
“I didn’t know!” Nancy wailed, tears streaming down her face. He had to strain to understand her through the hiccuping sobs. “I didn’t. I didn’t know…”
He stumbled back a step when she collapsed against him unexpectedly. His arms instinctively circled her as she clutched his jacket sobbing into his shoulder.
“I- I just wanted to be a rebellious teenager for once in my life. I didn’t mean to kill her. I didn’t! I promise. Please.” She was begging, pleading to some unknown God or being to relieve her of all the guilt and pain, yet unwilling to part from it if they did exist. She didn’t believe herself to be worthy of the release.
Mike had no freaking clue what to do. He hadn’t even been present for whatever triggered the start of this breakdown. He’d found her staring at a bleeding hand, glass covering the kitchen floor at three in the morning, not moving. Her eyes stared vacantly, even as her head turned in his direction at his entrance.
“What’d you do?” he’d asked, originally more tired and grumpy than worried at the sight of the mess.
It took a moment for her to react before all hell broke loose and she completely fell apart. It became quite clear quite quickly that Nancy was not grounded or aware enough to talk out of it. She was lost in her own world of pain and memories, and it was all he could do to keep his arms around her as she shook.
His brain kept fumbling as it attempted to adapt this scene into his understanding of his sister. She was always so uptight and bossy. She worked hard at her job and at school, and he’d always been a little jealous of how well she’d handled everything since the first Upside Down incident. He’d never seen her cry. Not since she first learned about Barb's death.
He’d always assumed that she had moved on. She’d worked towards justice by taking Hawkins Labs down and then lived her life. She never seemed scared when monsters attacked. She became quieter after, in some ways, but that was all he had noticed.
The girl crying in his arms on the kitchen floor was not that unstoppable girl. She was broken and small, and so overwhelmed. He held her as the sobs eventually sputtered off to quiet weeping, and then finally silent stillness. She wasn’t asleep, that much was obvious through the tension still present in her body. She didn’t say anything, just sat there, unmoving.
At some point. He gently pushed her back enough to see her face. Her eyes were dull and unfocused. She’d detached from reality in an entirely different way, exhaustion shining through easily. Seeing her then, after truly coming to understand how not ok she was, it scared him how familiar this expression was. He’d seen it hundreds of times, not always so overt, but still plain to see. Except he hadn’t seen, had he. He’d glossed right over, taking it to mean anything from disinterest to simple tiredness. He’d assumed that Nancy’s pain would look like his, and when it hadn’t, he’d never looked deeper.
After who knows how long, he eventually guided Nancy back up to bed, before finally stumbling back to his own. His original goal of a midnight snack was long forgotten. Despite his own exhaustion he didn’t sleep, simply stared at the ceiling, lost in thought. He didn’t know what to do with this revelation, but he did know he would be far more observant of his sister than he’d ever been before.

BESTIE YES YES OK I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS ABOUT CLAUDIA AND WAYNE BEING THE SWEETEST COUPLE, MY HEART IS ON FIRE, I SHIP IT SO MUCH!!!
Dustin comes over to Eddie's for some Hellfire stuff or just to hang out, Claudia comes by to pick him up because "It's dinner time, Dusty, I don't want you late again!"
Wayne is out front fixing something under the hood of Eddie's van, grumbling and cursing. She cautiously approaches him like "Hello? Excuse me, sir?" Which scares him and causes him to bang his head on the hood, hissing.
"Oh gosh, I'm so sorry, Mister, I didn't mean to scare you, I was just wondering if you might be Mr. Munson?"
"That, I am." Wayne groans, ducking out from under the hood and slamming it closed.
They see each other for the first time.
Wayne's eyes get wide and Claudia gasps, mumbling "Oh my...." under her breath.
They just stare at each other for a moment before Wayne coughs and scratches the back of his neck. "What can I do for ya there, Ma'am?"
"Hmm? Oh! I'm here to pick up my son, Dustin."
"Lil curly-haired boy, one Eddie's been pal-in' around with?"
"Yes, that's my baby."
"You're his Mama? Young thing like you? That can't be right."
Claudia blushing at his flirtation. She's never really felt beautiful, especially compared to women like Karen Wheeler. She's divorced, she's pushing 50, she has a teenage son. But Wayne makes her feel like a Queen within ten seconds of meeting her.
He holds open the door for her and she steps inside, immediately starting to clean everything and grabbing ice for Wayne's bruise.
Instead of picking up Dustin, she decides to invite Wayne and Eddie over for dinner to their house instead because she ~~wants to flirt with Wayne more~~ doesn't think it's right for him to work so hard all the time and not come home to a good dinner. They giggle and blush and compliment each other all night like two lovestruck teenagers.
Dustin and Eddie look at each other the whole time like "At this rate, we'll be step-brothers by Christmas...... AWESOME!!!"
~~yes I am the #1 Claudia×Wayne Stan, dont judge me~~
SALJFSDF BESTIE IM SCREAMING THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER!!!!!!
FIRST OF ALL I LOVE THE IDEA OF WAYNE AND CLAUDIA TOGETHER, I THINK THEY WOULD MAKE SUCH A GOOD COUPLE, LIKE THERE'S SO MUCH THAT THEY'VE BOTH GONE THROUGH AND I THINK THEY WOULD JUST FIND THE THINGS THEY'VE BEEN MISSING IN EACH OTHER AND THAT'S BEAUTIFUL.
I AM. OBSESSED WITH THIS LITTLE SNIPPET YOU'VE WRITTEN HERE TOO LIKE??? BESTIE YOU GOT THEM DOWN TO A T I'M SO INTO IT, AND I'M LIVING FOR WAYNE BEING THIS TOTAL GENTLEMAN AND CLAUDIA GETTING FLUSTERED BY IT, BUT ALSO WAYNE GETTING FLUSTERED BY CLAUDIA WANTING TO TAKE CARE OF HIM??? IT'S SO FUCKING GOOD DSKFHSDK
AND THEN I COULD TOTALLY SEE EDDIE AND DUSTIN BEING LIKE A TEEEEENY BIT WEIRDED OUT JUST BC LIKE EW PARENTS FLIRTING?? LMAO. BUT AT THE SAME TIME THEY BOTH JUST WANT NOTHING BUT THE BEST FOR THEIR PARENTS SO THEY KIND OF LOVE IT TOO, AND YEAH LIKE YOU SAID THEY WOULD BE HELLA EXCITED ABOUT BEING STEP-BROTHERS
I AM ABSOLUTELY NOT KIDDING WHEN I SAY I WOULD READ A WHOLE ASS FIC OF THIS. THIS IS JUST THE BEST CONCEPT 👏👏👏

September (Eddie Munson)
A/N: Hey y'all! Here is another Eddie fic that is written like the other ones because I am in love with his man :D Hope y'all enjoy it! Please don't copy my work. I worked really hard on writing this! Please and thank you! :) <3
Summary: Just some fluff between Piper and Eddie PS, might have some sexual themes ;)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
“Do you remember the 21st night of September?” you sang along to the sounds of funk from Earth, Wind, and Fire. It was Saturday night and the first time in a month that you were home alone, and you were taking advantage of it. You were currently in front of the stove making spaghetti for dinner, swaying your hips to the beat.
Your mom was gone for the weekend with her friends, and your brother was at the Wheeler’s for the night. So this gave you enough time to do what you wanted to do around the house.
As the chorus came around, you took one of the spoons and used it as a microphone, dancing along to the best of the song, "Ba-dee-ya, say, do you remember? Ba-dee-ya, dancin' in September!"
As you were dancing around the kitchen, you didn't notice the sound of your boyfriend coming in. When you spun back around and saw a figure in the doorway, you screamed and dropped the spoon on the floor.
"Jesus, Eddie!" You yelled when you realized it was just your boyfriend.
"Hey now, let's leave the other guy out of this," he smirked. You rolled your eyes, "Whatcha doin' here anyway?"
"I just came to hang out with my girl and maybe see Miles while I was here too. But from the looks of it, it's just you," he said as he got his lip. You didn't know it, but he was taking you all in. Your short messy hair, the way you pushed up your glasses, the way your T-shirt fell just below your butt, "Are you wearing any pants?"
You turned around to him, blushing a little, "Dude, I wasn't expecting anyone but me to be at my house. No. I'm not wearing pants."
Eddie grinned as you turned back around to finish making your dinner, "That's sexy."
You snorted and mumbled under your breath, "Horndog."
"Only for you, baby. I bet you aren't wearing a bra, either, are you? Damn it," he said. "I come here expecting to see Miles," he started counting on his fingers, "maybe eat dinner, watch a movie with my girl, make out with the said girl, talk gossip, make out some more, and then go to sleep. But," he throws his hands up, "here I am getting turned on by the fact that my beautifully thick, and sexy girlfriend is making dinner in nothing but a T-shirt and panties! What is a man to do!"
You giggled, "Well, you could help your girlfriend by getting the plates and cups out if you want?"
He thought about it, "What's the fun in that?"
You sighed and went over to the cabinet where the plates were at. You opened it and reached up and grabbed two plates. You didn't notice that your shirt rode up just enough to tease Eddie.
Then the timer went off, signaling the garlic bread was ready. You found the oven mitt and opened the oven. As you bend down to get the bread out of the oven, you heard Eddie groan from behind you.
You put the bread on the counter and turned around to look at Eddie, "What's wrong, baby?"
He bit his lip, "God, your thighs are so pretty. And your ass is so gorgeous in those purple panties."
You giggled again as you turned back to the spaghetti on the stove. He came up behind you and wrapped his arms around your waist. These hips are so deliciously thick.
"You miss me?" You asked, smiling.
"Just couldn't help myself, sweet thing. Your hips are just too delicious to not be touched," Eddie said as he stood behind you.
You hummed, "Well, I made extra if you want to take some home for you as leftovers and some for Uncle Wayne. I'm sure he would appreciate somethin' other than a TV dinner to eat sometimes."
"Yes, ma'am," he said as he watched you do whatever you were doing. Swaying along to Fleetwood Mac.
"How was your day?" You asked him. He happy hummed.
"Did you hear what I said?"
He hummed again.
"I'm movin' away."
He hummed.
"I'm pregnant."
Again.
"It's twins."
Again.
"They're Steve Harrington's."
"What?" He asked, trying to see your face and why you brought up Steve Harrington. You laughed and pouted playfully, "You'll answer to Steve but won't answer to me?"
He chuckled and then pecked your lips. You pulled away to get the pot of noodles and drained the water into the sink.
"Did I ever tell you how sexy you look in that T-shirt?" he asked, grinning mischievously.
You put the pot back on the burner that wasn't hot and went up to him, chest to chest. You tapped his cheek lovingly, "Aw, bless your heart. You're tryin' so hard to get into my pants."
"Is it working?" he asked hopefully.
"No," you deadpanned with the sweetest smile on her face. You kissed his cheek and then finished up. He groaned and then sat on the counter, watching you finish making dinner.
"It's ready," you told him a few minutes later. He smiled and made the plates of spaghetti and took them into the small dining room. You brought in the cups of soda that you were drinking and had dinner.
+++++++++
After dinner, Eddie leaned back in the chair and rubbed his lean stomach, "Keep making good food like that; I'll be fat in no time!"
You smiled a little, "It's the southern in me. How do you think I got this big?"
He looked at you as you were getting plates and taking them into the kitchen. He got up and followed you, "Sweetie, you are not fat. You are beautiful. You have curves that other girls would be jealous to have! And that men want to hold! But lucky for you. You have these curves that are so goddamn gorgeous, and lucky for me, I'm the man that gets to hold them. Because they fit perfectly in my hands, with my body."
You looked at him, wrapping your arms around his neck, "I love you, Eddie Munson."
He looked at you, putting his hands on your hips, "I love you, Piper Jones."
You reached up and kissed sweetly on the lips until his hands moved down and grabbed a handful of your ass. You pulled back a little giggling, "Eddie."
He grinned, "Yes?"
"Just a few more minutes, and then I'm all yours, okay?" You told him, pulling away, pushing his hands from your ass. He whined and pouted.
But then he went back to his spot behind you as you washed the dishes. You were swaying to Wild Cherry until a new song came in, "Hey, once I was a boogie singer."
Then your hips started subconsciously dancing along to the song's beat. Which made it to where her ass was grinding against Eddie's front.
"That's it!" He said as he picked you up, and you squealed. He carries you down the hallway toward your bedroom.
"But Eddie! I gotta finish the dishes!" You told him.
"I'm sorry, but the dishes have to wait," he said as he threw you on the bed. You bounced a little and giggled. He continued, and he crawled up to you, "I want my dessert now."

Upside Down Feelings
Chapter One: The Vanishing of Will Byres
Tumblr media
an episode-by-episode stranger things fic that incorporates the reader into the series
summary: Y/N Henderson is your typical high school girl with typical problems; falling out with her best friend, an annoying little brother, and a chronically unpopular standing in school. Little did she know that after the disappearance of Will Byres, her world would be flipped upside down
pairing: Steve Harrington x Reader (slow burn)
word count: 3400
tw: none besides the fact that this is unedited :)
“You’re such an asshole!” Dustin shouted as you laughed.
“Dusty! Language!” Your mother gasped, peaking . “Y/N, doing whatever you’re doing stop!”
“You heard her! Stop,” Dustin smirked.
“I’m not doing anything-“
“Give it back!” His smile dropped into a scowl, jumping up to try to reach your raised arm. “I’m late for the D&D campaign.”
“Just reach up and grab it,” You raised a brow. You loved annoying your little brother. Partially because he was just an adorable little kid but mostly because he loved to annoy you just as much. But you both knew if anyone were to so much as look at him the wrong way in front of you, you wouldn’t hesitate to break their nose.
His eyes quickly darted behind you, making you turn around to see absolutely nothing out of the ordinary behind you.
“Y/N, don’t make me use the power of the D&D league against you,” He warned. “We might be small but we’re mighty.”
“First of all, wow. I’m so scared of a bunch of 9 year olds-“
“We’re 12.”
“Whatever. And what’s the big deal anyway? It’s just a damn doll,” You smirked, making him gasp dramatically as he placed a hand on his hip.
“That is not a doll,” He spoke with offense, using his free hand to point at you as continued. “That is a limited edition action figure that can’t be touched because your nasty human hand oils will ruin the paint- You know what? Whatever. I tried to warn you. GET HER!”
“I- What? Who are you talking to- OW! FUCK!” You heard his group of friends scream before they all attacked, two knocking you on the couch as another one grabbed the doll.
“Y/F/N! Language!” Your mother called.
The boys cheered before all running off into the front yard. You looked through the window and smiled at their cheers as your brother held up the action figure victoriously. “Why do you give him such a hard time?”
“Because I’m his big sister. It’s part of the job description,” You shrugged, walking into the kitchen and placing a quick kiss on the top of her head as you made a bee line towards the fridge. “Can I go out tonight?”
“Where to?” She asked, looking over to see you chuckling. “Why do I even bother asking at this point? Yes, you can go out with Robin. What ever happened to Nancy? I thought she was your best friend.”
“Key word: was,” You sighed, hopping on the counter and watching your mom cook. You opened the bottle of soda and took a long swig before you continued. “Ever since she got with The Hair, she hasn’t really talked to me as much. I guess she’s just too cool for me now..”
“Well, if it helps any, you’re the coolest girl in my book,” She smiled over at you, placing a maternal hand on your cheek as she watched you smile. “And the prettiest! And the funniest! And, most importantly, you have the biggest heart I’ve ever seen. If Nancy can’t see that, then I don’t think that makes her very cool. I like Robin way more than I ever liked her.”
“Aw, shucks!” Robin chimed in. You’d given her a key about a month ago and she used it generously. “You’re making me blush, Mrs. Henderson! Ooh, it smells good in here. Whatcha makin’?
Robin smiled as she hopped onto the counter beside you and laid her head on your shoulder.
“Chicken Parm,” Your mom grinned. “Wanna stay for dinner?”
“We’d love to, Mom but-“
“No buts! The movie can wait. Let’s eat!” Robin interrupted.
———
“Could you ride your bike out to the Wheeler’s and tell your brother it’s time to come home? It’s getting late for a school night,” Your mom asked. “I called and Mrs. Wheeler says that they refuse to wrap up their game.”
You groaned and pouted.
“But Nancy-“
“You aren’t there for Nancy. You’re there for Dusty. Now go,” She ordered in a firm tone.
You huffed and did as told. You wished Robin hadn’t left about an hour ago so she could make this trip a little more bearable. Seeing Nancy wasn’t exactly at the top of the list of things you wanted to do tonight. Or ever, for that matter.
The truth was that the two of you had a falling out. It wasn’t rare for the two of you to argue, considering you’ve known one another since you were children. But this argument held a lot more weight to it than your previous disputes. The type of weight that settled into your mind as you fell asleep and made you drag your feet to school, knowing she would be there. She tried to apologize twice for her words but she knew how deep they’d cut you. She knew that even you had your limits and she was way out of line. Now when you passed each other in the hallways, you’d both blush, shoot a feigned smile and walk a little quicker to avoid any type of conversation.
God, if you’re real, You thought before you rang the doorbell, holding your breath to see who would answer. Nancy won’t be the one to-
“Y/N?” Nancy furrowed her brows as she opened the front door of her house.
Okay, God. You’re either not real or a dick. Noted.
“What are you doing here?” She asked. The small glimmer of hope in her eyes crushed you. All you wanted to do was hug her and tell her that you missed your late night giggle fits and little study dates. But the weight of the argument prevented you from doing so.
“I, uh.. My mom sent me to come get Dustin,” You didn’t even recognize your own voice; weak and apathetic. “She said your mom has been trying to clear them out of the basement and they won’t leave so I’m here to-“
“Y/N! Sweetheart!” Mrs. Wheeler called from behind her daughter. Nancy’s eyes quickly shot to her feet. “I haven’t seen you around in a while! How’ve you been? How’s your mom?”
“Good and good,” You smiled, hoping the tension wouldn’t be too evident. You let out a small breath of relief when the woman giggled.
“Thank the Lord that you’re here! They won’t listen to me. I know they’ll listen to you!”
An awkward silence fell upon the three of you. You nodded and shot her another tight lipped smile.
Oh, now it was evident.
“I’m sorry, I can’t help but feel that I just interrupted something?” She asked.
“Nope!”
“No!”
“Uh-huh..” The woman said slowly, looking at the two pathetic girls who looked down at their feet. “They’re in the basement.”
You nodded and made a quick bee line to the basement door. You didn’t even bother knocking- no time, you simply ran downstairs and watched them gasp. You couldn’t get out of this house fast enough. Every single inch of this house held the memories of you and your best friend.
You clenched your eyes at the force of habit. Ex best friend.
“Y/N? What are you-“ Your brother began, snapping you out of your thoughts.
“When someone asks you to go home, Dustin, you go home,” You said sternly. “It’s late. And Mrs. Wheeler has been kind enough to let you stay here and play this game all day. The least you could do is show some respect and leave at a reasonable hour. Especially on a school night, dipshit. Come on. We’re leaving.”
“But we’re in the middle of a game!” Mike whined.
“You heard her,” Nancy spoke from behind you. “Clean up. It’s time for your friends to go home.”
The boys all simply looked at the two of you with wide eyes.
“Now!” You both shouted, causing them to chaotically clean up and do as told. You grabbed Dustin by the shoulder, taking him upstairs to apologize to the Wheelers before you met the other kids outside.
“You and Nancy used to be cool!” Dustin huffed. “What happened to you guys?”
“We grew up,” You said simply, not revealing the fact that you wondered the same thing every night. “Let’s go.”
“Y/N!” Nancy called as she ran out to catch you before you got on your bike. The boys already began cycling home, leaving the two of you alone. “Hey, I know things are.. The way they are between us. And I’m sorry about that. But there’s a party on Tuesday night at Steve’s and I was wondering if… maybe you wanted to come?”
“Uh,” You smiled. “On a school night? I don’t know, Nance.”
“That was my first reaction too. Come on!” She giggled. “Barb said she’ll go if you do. And I think you might a lot of fun-“
“Ah,” Your smile faded. “You want me there so Barb will go.”
“No! No, I didn’t mean it like that at all. I want you there for me not because I want Barb to-“
“Nancy,” You interrupted softly. “I appreciate the invite. I do. Thank you. I just..”
“Yeah,” She nodded, looking away to hide the tears in her eyes. “No, yeah. I get it. It’s okay. It’s a school night anyways so..”
“Right,” You nodded. “I hope you have fun though.”
You slung your leg over your bike and began to walk it towards the street before something stopped you. Maybe it was the familiar house with the familiar girl who stood with the familiar sad face that you always seemed to cause as of recently. Maybe it was the fact that you just missed your best friend, regardless of how damn mean she could be at times.
“Hey, Nancy?” You called.
“Yeah?” She looked up.
“I don’t know.. Maybe you could, like.. Call me if anything crazy happens at the party.”
“I can call you?” She asked a little too quickly with those wide eyes of hers, making you laugh. She smiled. “Sorry. I got excited.”
“I see that,” You teased. Oh, how she missed being teased by you. “I should get going. But, uh.. Feel free to call me afterwards, okay? I’ll be up late studying anyway so it really doesn’t matter what time you do.”
She nodded, trying to hide her grin. In her world, everything seemed to finally be falling into place now that you were speaking to her again. She missed telling you things about school and about the things she did with Steve. She missed your study dates because no one matched her intellectually the way you did. She missed your quick witted comments, and she missed the fact that you both cheered each other on in life. She missed you. All of you, even the bad parts that she couldn’t stand at times. Because at the end of the day, you were like a sister to her. And sister fight all the time, right?
“Dustin! Wait up!” You called, watching as he and Will took of racing towards your house. You laughed and accepted the challenge, peddling as fast as you could to catch up with them.
“I’ll take your X-Men 134!” Will called as he sped past your house. You hit the breaks and swerved your bike, avoiding Dustin who halted to a stop.
“Son of a bitch,” He muttered.
“Tell him I stole it and to pick another one,” You offered, slightly out of breath. “I know how much you like that one so put the blame on me.”
“You’re in a good mood,” Dustin chuckled. “Did your girlfriend finally talk to you?”
“Other way around, doofus,” You rolled your eyes, hopping off of your bike to walk it into the garage. “And she’s not my girlfriend.”
“What happened between you guys anyway?” He asked, doing the same.
He’d never look at her in the same way if he knew.
“A boy,” You lied. More like the bad of an influence he is and the fact that he is morphing her into someone she’s not. At least, that’s what led to the falling out.
“Ew, don’t tell me you have a thing for Steve too!” Dustin gagged, kicking the stand out on his bike and closing the garage. You followed him inside.
“Gross,” You scrunched your nose. “Mark my words, Dustin; I will never see that boy as anything more than what he is. Trash.”
“At least we’re on the same page about something tonight,” He nodded, walking to the kitchen. “What’d mom make?”
“Chicken Parm,” You responded, already grabbing some plates. As he opened the fridge, the lights flickered and he yelped. “Oooh, maybe it’s the monster from your game.”
“That’s not funny,” He snapped. “If that were true, we’re all dead.”
“Okay, I’m sorry,” You smiled. “I’m sure there’s just a nearby storm. Totally not a monster. The lights would flicker again if it was a monster.”
The lights switched off for a moment and next thing you knew, you heard your brother scream and lunge into you. He wrapped his arms around you and held on tight. When the lights turned back on, you looked down to see him clenching his eyes shut as his legs shook.
Great, now he’s gonna ask to sleep in your room.
“Can I sleep in your-“
“Yes,” You groaned, peeling him off of you. “But you’re sleeping on the floor.”
“THE FLOOR?!” He yelped.
“Yes, the floor. You kick in your sleep,” You rolled your eyes. “And I have a quiz tomorrow.”
“But-“
“You need to stop playing that damn game, dude. You’re always like this when the lights flicker.”
“But the floor is worse than sleeping alone in my room and I-“
“No! You’re sleeping on the floor. Take it or leave it.”
“Please, I-“
“Dustin!” You shouted.
“Fine!” He shouted back, taking an angry bite out of his food. “Gross, I forgot to put it in the microwave.”
You both giggled before finishing up in the kitchen and getting dressed for bed. Halfway through the night, you felt him try to crawl into your full size bed.
“Dustin. Floor.”
“Fine..”
———
“Waffles!” Dustin grinned, all but running to the table. “Pass the syrup, please.”
You mindlessly did as told as you flipped through a guitar magazine. The phone rang and your mother answered, her voice dropped for a moment before she turned around to face you.
“Did you guys ride home with Will?” Your mother asked with the phone pressed to her ear. “Joyce said that Mrs. Wheeler told her that you all left together.”
“We raced to the house and then he went home, why?” Dustin asked. Your mother blinked before repeating what he said into the phone.
“It’s probably nothing,” Your mother smiled after she hung up the phone but you didn’t miss the way her hand trembled as she brought the cup of coffee to her lips.
———
“Nice shoes,” Carol snorted as she approached you. You didn’t need to look down to see that you’d chosen your old, ratted up converse.
“Nice face,” You rebutted without missing a beat as you bumped into her shoulder. “Your nose looks different this year. Did your daddy buy that for you too?”
“At least she has a dad,” Tommy smirked, making Carol throw her head back in laughter. Your lips parted, taken aback from the statement. “What’s the matter, Henderson? Cat got your tongue?”
You quickly composed yourself, readjusting your backpack and chuckling.
“I’d rather have a dead dad than a dead beat one,” You shrugged, turning on your heels.
“What did you just say to me? Hey! Don’t walk away from me when I talk to you,” Tommy asked, grabbing your shoulder. Hard. He pushed you into the lockers with the same force, causing your head hit a handle, making you wince and curse under your breath. “You wanna say that again, loser?”
“Hey, what the fuck, dude? She’s a girl!” Steve furrowed his brows and pushed Tommy off of you, but the boy kept his eyes on you. If looks could kill. Steve looked back at you with concern. “You alright?”
“Never better,” You groaned, bringing your hand up to your head and bringing it back down to see a bit of blood. Steve’s eyes widened as he looked back up at you. “Don’t worry, Harrington. I won’t tell Nancy.”
“What?” He blinked, searching your face for any sign of . “No. I-I didn’t.. I wasn’t trying to imply-“
“Excuse me,” You interrupted before walking away, quickly making a bee line to the bathroom to get some paper towels for your head. Luckily, it was a small cut. Though it wasn’t gushing or running, the blood still pooled at the wound. It’d only take a few minutes to stop. The throbbing of the forming bruise, however, was a different story. “Fucking assholes.”
“Who?” Robin asked as she walked in. “Woah! Dude, I don’t know if you know this but your head is bleeding!”
You chuckled dryly before grabbing the mess of paper towels and putting them in the trash. Her gaze never left your face as she leaned against the wall.
“Let me guess-“
“Don’t. I don’t wanna talk about it,” You shook your head, desperate for a subject change. “Did you hear about Will Byers?”
“Yeah,” She exhaled as she responded. “Poor Jonathan.”
“Yeah,” You nodded. You couldn’t even fathom the possibility that it could’ve just as easily been your brother. “Poor Jonathan indeed.”
“Here, you’re still bleeding a bit. I know you don’t wanna talk about it, but at the very least, let me hold some pressure on it,” Robin grabbed a handful of paper towels and made you lean against the sink. She stood by your side and gently but firmly pressed, watching as you sucked in a breath before easing into her touch. “You were saying? Something about Jonathan.”
“I don’t know how he’s keeping his cool. I’d be devastated if it was Dustin.. Shit, I’m a little devastated even with Will. I mean I watched that kid grow up… One time, he convinced me, Jonathan and Nancy to dress up for their stupid game and it’s still one of my favorite memories. We all ended up on the floor laughing and grabbing at our stomachs from the force.”
“Shit,” Robin raised her brows, handing you a hat from her bag. “He’s the quiet one, right?”
“Hes shy, not quiet,” The smile from your story lingered as you put it on. “He’s a good kid. I just wish there was-“
“Steve!” You both heard a voice giggle. It was followed by sloppy footsteps and kissing noises. Robin shot you a look of disgust as Steve and Nancy stumbled in, in one of those teenage hormone sparked make out sessions. Gross. “We could get in trouble! Someone might see us!”
“Consider yourselves seen,” Your friend smirked, making them jump. They looked over as she tossed the towel in the trash. There was barely enough blood to see but you could tell they’d noticed. Steve almost winced at the fact that he knew what the hat was for, covering the evidence. “We were just on the way out. As you were, sir.”
You both grabbed your bags before making your exit. Nancy blushed furiously as Steve looked back at her.
“You think they’re good at keeping secrets?” He asked.
“Trust me,” She smiled before pulling him in again. “They’re the best.”
———
“And then we told him about the road!” Dustin ranted about his interaction with Hopper. You and your mother listened intently as you finished the dinner Dustin has yet to touch. “So can I go tonight? Search for him?”
“No,” She responded. He looked at you for help. You pursed your lips and shrugged. As much as you wanted to take his side, you’d rather see him upset than missing. He huffed, pushing away his plate and marching to his room. Your mother sighed and sat back. “My poor, sweet boy..”
“I’ll talk to him,” You muttered. You got up and walked down the hallway, knocking lightly at his door.
“Go away.”
“Dusty,” You leaned your forehead on his door. “It’s me. Let me in.”
You heard him hesitate before his mattress creeped and footsteps approached. The door unlocked and opened to reveal your teary eyed little brother.
“I’m going. Lucas and Mike and I will stick together. I took your pepper spray for protection,” He admitted as he held up your keychain. You laughed. “If you love me, you’ll cover for me and say I went to sleep early.”
You sighed, looking at him with concern.
“What kind of big sister would I be if I let that happen?” You shook your head.
“The type that doesn’t want Mom knowing you lost your virginity already,” He threatened, making your face drop. You widened you eyes before pushing him into his room and closing his door. “I’ll tell her if you don’t let me go!”
“SHH! Keep your voice down, asshole! Where did you even hear about that?” You whisper yelled.
“I overheard you talking to Robin,” He whispered.
“So instead of asking nicely to go you fucking blackmail me?!” You scoffed. “I came in here to cheer you up and all of the sudden I’m under attack? And I find out that you know about.. Ew!”
“You’re the one who taught me how to blackmail in the first place!” He argued. His face has never seemed as punchable as it did in that very moment. He saw your glare, the daggers it sent his way, and took a step back physically but continued to threaten you. “I’m going whether you cooperate or not. So we can do this the easy way or the hard way.”
“I fucking hate you, you know that?” You hissed, turning on your heels and going to your room. He stood in a silent guilt, hating that the person he looked up to the most just said that to him. Dustin drew in a shaky breath and sat on his bed for a moment before his door opened again. He looked up and saw you hand him a backpack. He furrowed his brows in confusion. “There are three pocket knives and three flashlights- one for each one of you. It’s going to rain so take your raincoat. If you don’t come back by midnight, I’ll tell mom about that gross comic book you have that is filled to the brim with cartoon tits. If you don’t come back ever, I’ll never recover. If you see or hear or feel something that’s not right, you turn around and come home. You got it?”
He grinned and nodded, running into your arms to hug you. You quickly pushed him off and lowered yourself to his eye level.
“I still hate you,” You clarified. He just laughed as you pulled him in for another hug. “Be careful. I’ll let her know you cried yourself to sleep.”
“I owe you!” He jumped out of your arms and opened his window. “Big time.”
“Oh, I know. And I intend to cash in on that. Big time.” You responded. His face scrunched in concern, almost as if he was reconsidering his whole plan, before he jumped out. You sighed, and walked back to the kitchen.
“How is he?” Your mom sat up as she saw you.
“He just needs some time to cool down. I’ll check on him in a few hours to make sure he’s still okay,” You smiled, knowing that answer perfectly satisfied your mother.
Was this your best moment; allowing your kid brother to go out alone with his kid friends in search of a missing boy? No. But you knew him. He needed this. Maybe this would be a funny story in a few years, but you spent the whole night studying in his room, waiting for him to come back. When the window finally creeped open to reveal his silhouette, you about passed out from relief.
Something told you that this boy was going to grow up to be nothing but trouble.

what's your saddest hc about stevie?
I have so many. Buckle up.
Um, there’s nothing really serious, everything is fairly vague so I don’t think I can think of any specific content warnings but it is angst so be careful. There’s like one mention of sex I think too.
Basically, I cannot see him without some mental health issues. Specifically anxiety and depression and ptsd.
I also have a fic that will probably never see the light of day where Steve has OCD and it kinda goes into how his compulsions begin to take more concrete form after the Upside Down and the actual monsters and how he begins to develop new routines and tics that go into all of that. It gets pretty spicy.
But here’s a smattering of others:
After talking with Nancy in the alley in season 2 in his gym class, he skips the rest of the school day and cries in his car.
His mother has forgotten his name three times. He chalks them up to her having a lil too much wine, but it still hurts.
At the beginning of working at Scoops, Robin fucking hated him on principle and he was really distant from her because he felt he deserved it for how he used to act in high school
Steve hates his own company bc he wears such a strong facade with everyone in his life when he’s alone he doesn’t even know how to act bc he doesn’t even know who he is
He realized he liked guys from a young age and spent a very long time hating himself for it
He made a case for himself to go to the local community college to do some general classes and find what he wants to study before re-applying to a four-year university, but his dad told him he’d rather have a deadbeat for a son than have Steve embarrass him like that
In third grade, Steve accidentally called his teacher “mom” enough times that she became genuinely concerned for his home life and tried to arrange a meeting with the principal
He lost his virginity to a senior girl when he was a freshman, and he tried to ask her on a date the next day and she laughed in his face and he tried to swear off relationships (until Nancy and we all know how that ended for him)
He sleeps with his blinds closed because the pool freaks him out, but he also sometimes gets a weird feeling like someone’s watching him and he doesn’t know if that’s from the idea of a demogorgon out there, or the idea that Jonathan took photos through his bedroom window
He didn’t tell Billy he loved him until Billy said it first because he was too scared that he felt more for Billy than he did for him. Which means that they were a solid two years into their relationship and fully living together before either of them had the courage to say it
At the end of season one when he’s sitting next to Ted Wheeler, he was waiting for his parents, whom the lab had called some hours ago, to come and pick him up. They never showed. When he got home he realized that his mother had answered the call, but they decided that their trip to Spain was more important and went to the airport as scheduled instead
He lashed out so hard in high school mostly as a cry for help and attention because he didn’t know how else to get those things other than being popular and a bully
Keith has made him almost cry at work at least once a week
He didn’t go to senior prom bc he felt like it would just be sad, only to find out at school the following Monday he had been voted prom king as a joke, and he felt kinda relieved he didn’t go bc then he avoided that humiliation
Claudia Henderson called him a good boy to his face once and he nearly had a breakdown over someone telling him something kind about himself
He once had an idea that the only reason he doesn’t get in trouble at school is bc his dad donates so much money to the shitty high school, so he tested his theory by not doing any homework for a month and even going as far as to graffiti some of the lockers, and all that happened was one (1) meeting where the principal told him “I don’t want to have to call your parents” and nothing else. Steve knew if he failed his dad would blame him, but the schoolboard was worried that if Steve failed his dad would blame the school and pull out his donations and funding. Sometimes Steve thinks that’s the only reason he graduated
He once asked Nancy not to call him an idiot, because even if she meant it endearingly, it still hurt his feelings and she told him not to be so sensitive and he never brought it up again
Once Hopper arrested him and Tommy for being minors and drunk in public and held them overnight. Tommy’s parents came as soon as they could to sign him out and take care of the protocol I’m too lazy to look up but am sure exists, and Steve’s parents didn’t show for two days and Hop felt so bad for the kid he just let him off with a warning, throwing away all the paperwork. So technically, Steve has a clean record
He absolutely self medicates you cannot change my mind
Having dinner with the Wheelers was the first time he felt a proper family dinner, where you all talk about your day and bicker a lil bit. First time he had dinner with the Byers it was even more overwhelming because that’s how it feels to be a part of a real proper family
His favorite class he’s ever taken was woodshop. He’s actually really good at building things and figuring out how to bring an idea to life like that and visualizing how dimensions and pieces fit together. It’s the only class he’s gotten an A in but his dad told him manual labor is unnecessary and other stupid shit and wouldn’t let Steve sign up for the next level of the class
That’s all for now because this got LOOOOONG, but yeah. I bit of Steve angst for your troubles.

happy hawkins holiday hiatus to @mikewheelerthepaladin !! here’s a lighthearted fic + a playlist of songs i listened to a lot while writing, i hope you enjoy 🥳
& a big thank you to @sevensided for putting this together, it’s been super fun <3
It’s the first time he’s been in over a year, really, but he’d entertained the thought of asking Will over the summer, for one last challenge before he left. It never happened, everything went by too fast; and, honestly, Mike didn’t know how to talk to him with the goddamn weight of everything - hi, we’ve barely spoken in the last year and we just almost died, again, and now you’re moving away forever - wanna hang out?
It’s the first time he’s been in over a year, really, but he’d entertained the thought of asking Will over the summer, for one last challenge before he left. It never happened, everything went by too fast; and, honestly, Mike didn’t know how to talk to him with the goddamn weight of everything - hi, we’ve barely spoken in the last year and we just almost died, again, and now you’re moving away forever - wanna hang out?
It’d never been that hard.
And it sucked. The whole thing. Now that Will is gone, it gnaws at him daily that they could have had more time together. Or a proper goodbye, at least. Instead, he spent a lot of time last summer sitting around, figuring out how to approach El and his feelings toward her, and most of all, alone.
But now the Byers are coming home for Christmas. And staying with The Wheelers, on top of it all.
So, seeking some sort of cryptic universal answer to his life problems, Mike returns to the place of a lot of younger memories, of crowding around machines with Lucas and Dustin and Will, a conglomeration of shouting and booing and cheering when one of them topped a high score, of frantically patting down their pockets for a few extra coins.
All of these wistful memories come to halt, however, when he finds a familiar redhead occupying one of their favorite games.
Max glances at him through the screen. “What do you want?”
“Uh, to play?” Honestly, he doesn’t care; he’s not sure he could focus enough to win much anyway. “Kicking your ass would be a plus.”
“Yeah, as if.” Her gaze fixes back on the colorful pixels dancing in front of her face.
Okay, well, she’s not moving anytime soon. He could probably just walk away, but a part of him wants company, even if it’s from someone hellbent on disagreeing with him.
Even when the Party hangs out now, Mike finds himself bickering with Max over what movies to see, where to eat, nearly anything, even when he doesn’t really give a shit. It’s the principle of the thing, and she gets under his skin.
Maybe it’s a good thing.
Mike sighs, leans against one of the neighboring games, and shoves his hands in his pockets. “I don’t really know why I’m here.”
“Well, if you’re looking for me to throw pity money at you, it’s not happening.” After a beat, and losing the level, she kicks at the machine and turns to him. “Now look what you made me do. All your moping and talking - I could’ve beaten that if you would just leave me alone.”
He offers a quarter.
“Forget it.”
“I’ll buy you a pop, then.” She glares at him. “Seriously, okay, this is the first and only olive branch. Take it or leave it.”
After a moment of scowling at him, her arms folded, she slowly concedes, a smug look taking over. “Okay. I’ll take it, Wheeler.”
“So, you’re stalking me at the arcade because… of nothing?”
Mike presses his lips into a line. “I’m not stalking you,” he says, “and it’s not - it’s not nothing. I was gonna ask Lucas or Dustin to come, but… I felt like I needed to be here alone.”
Max sips on her drink. “That didn’t work out.”
“Guess not.”
“So you did need to talk to someone.”
“Guess so.”
God, this is borderline painful. Sitting in a shoddy little booth across from Max, whom he never once intended to have a heart-to-heart with, is a new level of desperation. But here they are.
With the most grandiose sigh he’s ever heard in his life, Max straightens in her chair. “Well, I don’t love giving advice to annoying teenage boys, but I’ve been told I’m good at it. Advice, you know.”
Mike raises an eyebrow. “Was it El who said that, by chance?”
“Bite me.”
Amused, Mike smiles, and he slides the near-empty cup between his hands like a little game, something else to focus on. “Okay, fine, give me some advice.”
Max frowns at him like he’s the biggest idiot in the world. “Maybe give me a situation to work with?” She mutters something under her breath that he doesn’t bother with.
“Well, the Byers are coming home and staying with us, and I wanted to come up with something really nice to do, you know. I know that they’re really nervous because it’s… the holidays have been rough, the past few years.” He finishes his drink and stares at the lid. “They almost refused. So, I dunno, I figured I could do something to make them feel like it’s still home.”
“Oh,” Max nods, finally breaking into a slight smile, “well, cool, you could set up something really romantic for El! She’d love it.”
Right. The girlfriend.
He had no clue where the hell they left things when the Byers moved. About a month ago, Mike called to tell her the distance was confusing and they might need to take a break. He figured she would’ve told Max because, from his understanding, they spoke on the phone on an almost daily basis.
“Sure - yeah, yeah, that’s - it’s a good idea. For sure.”
Max falls back into a confused squint. “Was there something else you had in mind?”
Mike isn’t sure how to get it out without sounding like a total airhead. So he copes with it the best way he can. “You know what, this was dumb. I’ll figure it out myself.” He grabs his jacket and stands to leave.
“No, no, Mike - I want to help.” She’s looking up at him with a genuinely nice expression, holding out a hand to stop him from fully up and leaving. “I’m really good at this stuff, just let me know what I can do. No judgment. I swear.”
“I have to get home tonight anyway,” Mike says cautiously. “Told my mom I’d help with dinner.”
“Can I come over tomorrow?”
He frowns, and something digging at his stomach makes him respond with, “Why do you care?”
Max’s jaw sets. She stands up to meet his eye level and sets a look on him. “Even if I didn’t, even if I couldn’t care less about you, Mike, I care about El. And Will. And I want to be a part of their homecoming. So maybe you could figure out a way to not be a dick about it.” She snatches her drink cup and storms off from the table, leaving Mike to scramble after her with more apologies.
He’s gotta get better at this whole ‘girls’ thing.
He catches up to her outside. “Okay, listen - come over after school tomorrow. We can meet outside by the stairs.”
She barely turns to him, says, “Fine,” and then hops on her bike and rides away.
That’s how Mike ends up with Max in his basement, slowly walking and examining his things, but not touching any of them, thankfully.
It’s going alright, thus far. A part of him feels like he should reach out to Lucas and Dustin, too, since they’re also Will’s best friends. But something about this… works. He and Max can’t seem to stay entirely civil in each other’s company, but she gets something. And she hasn’t brought up El even once since yesterday.
“So, I’m gonna come up with a really cool campaign - well, I’ve been working on it, and I can tell you about it - “ Max lifts herself on tiptoe in his peripheral vision, “ - but anyway, we can pull an all-nighter, if everyone’s up for it, and make snacks and drinks and stuff, and we can have movies on for you guys, and I thought I might even look for some costumes because I really think Will would get a kick out of it. I can put lights up, too - “
“You draw?”
Max’s back is to him, as she’s looking over his wall of posters and pinned pictures. As he steps closer, he realizes her eyes are fixed on a sketch that definitely bears some resemblance to him.
“No, Will sent me those,” he says quickly, not wanting to seem like a giant narcissist, because Will’s drawing is - how can he say it - beautiful. “He’s been using charcoal a lot recently, he told me he got some new art stuff. I think he wants to send one of all of us.”
Max turns to him, and he can’t tell if she’s tearing up for some reason, but she quickly wipes any sign of tears away. “That’s so neat,” is all she says at first. There’s a small silence between them, and she’s just looking at him, and he has no idea what the hell he should say. “He’s such a good person,” she adds quietly, “I wish I got the chance to really know him.”
Mike’s breath hitches for a few seconds. “Yeah. I mean, he mentioned hanging out with you a few times.”
A smile lifts the girl’s cheeks. “Yeah, to bitch about you, mostly.”
“Hey!” he protests, but he can’t help but smile too, this time. This might just be their most pleasant interaction to date. “He never mentioned that.”
“I don’t know how he could, all you freakin’ do is talk.”
“Whatever.” Mike messes with some Christmas crafts on the table, holding them up in his vision to see where they might fit in the basement. He clears his throat. “You know, El and I, uh - we split.”
Max nods slowly. “She said you guys don’t call much.”
“No, we didn’t. I mean, I don’t even call Will, we just write.” He leans against the table, eyes glazing over as he looks over years of memories, dorky craft nights, and shitty school projects that he or his mom made a point to keep. “It’s too hard to talk - to either of them, you know. I didn’t think I could hear their voices without…”
Max cuts him off. “I get it.” She crosses over to the table, helping him pull apart old paper snowflakes. “I’m just the opposite. I’m scared if I don’t talk to them, I’ll convince myself it was all fake. And maybe it’d be for the better, but I’m glad I knew them. Even if only for a little while.”
Mike bites down on his lips, attempting to bury all the emotion threatening to spew out of him. “Yeah.”
Max finally looks up at him, and though they seem to have shared a moment, she snaps back out of it. “All offense, Mike, these are ugly as shit. I’m helping you make new ones, okay?”
“It’s for the memory!”
“No more living in the past.” She raises her eyebrows at him, and he pinches his face in annoyance, so she says, “Okay, you can put them up, in like, little corners, but we’re making new ones. Surprise. Work with me here, Michael.”
“It’s my basement, Max.”
“Did you or did you not ask for my help?”
Mike blinks. “Not really.”
She throws a crafty paper star at him. “Shut up, you’re glad I’m here.”
He shakes his head and moves on, but though he may never admit it, a part of him really is glad.
Weeks pass in what feels like a span of days or maybe hours, with Mike and Max sorting out their surprise plans with a typical amount of bickering - but hey, they get it done. Max has lots of opinions about decorations and music that make Mike roll his eyes, but she’s got a good eye and she offers to help with baking, which is not a strong suit of his. Yes, they throw a lot of streamers at each other, and threaten to storm out every other hour, but it gets done.
And the day is finally here.
Mike pulls himself into his best festive sweater and eyes himself in the mirror. He messes with his hair, though the long, wavy curls never seem to fall exactly into place - maybe growing it out was a mistake - and tugs at the creases of his sweater, letting out a huffy breath. None of it is working with him. When he can’t stand looking at himself anymore, he dashes down to the kitchen to help his mom with desserts.
She smiles when he plops into a seat. “You okay, honey? You seem a little tense.”
Mike jolts. “Uh, yeah, just excited.”
“Good! Joyce said the kids haven’t stopped talking about the trip for weeks.”
Great. “I hope we live up to the hype.”
“Oh, Mike. You know you don’t have to try that hard.” Karen stops frosting for a moment to look at him. “Will’s your best friend. El is excited to see you,” she nudges at him, and he coughs out a nervous laugh, “and Joyce thinks you’re an angel-”
“God, mom-”
“I’m serious. Don’t worry so much.” She leans forward on her forearms. “I know you think every problem in the world is on you, but it’s not. It’s enough just to be around the people you love. If anything, you’ve gone overboard.”
Overboard. Hopefully, it’s not too much.
Finally, he caves, exhaling slowly with a simple, “Okay.” He stays beside her, tapping his fingers, and eventually ruining a gingerbread man’s face until she notices and smacks his hand away.
There’s a knock on the door, and while Mike hops to his feet, his mother calls out, “Come in!” earning a panicked look from him. She mouths, ‘Chill,’ but he still half-jogs to the door and throws it open.
Nancy calls down the stairs, “Who is it?”
It’s Max, brandishing a few small wrapped gifts.
“Hello, sunshine,” she says. After a moment, “It’s great to see you too, Michael, allow me to invite myself in.”
“It’s just Max,” Mike calls back. He steps aside, and Max brushes past him, dropping her gifts by their tree and running into the kitchen.
“Hi, Mrs. Wheeler!”
“Hey, Max, Merry Christmas!”
Mike’s mom seemed to think Max was one of the most charming people on the planet, something they frequently disagreed on, but he can’t be mad at their pleasant chatter right now.
Especially not when the next knock comes so soon.
Probably just Lucas and Dustin, dragging their feet as usual.
Mike opens the door, prepared with a quippy remark for his friends, but his stomach drops immediately.
It’s Will. Holding a bunch of luggage.
Mike is caught up in everything about him. He’s taller. New, floppy hair, tousled and messy in the biting snowy winds. His forearms exposed as his bags push against his jacket. Will.
The boy smiles at him. “Hey.”
“Hey,” Mike manages.
Will looks past him with a tiny wave, and Mike turns to see Max beaming and waving back, and then Max slips back into the kitchen and Will returns his gaze to Mike. “Can I come in?”
“Hey, Mike!” Joyce interrupts from the car, straining to grab something in the backseat. “Merry Christmas, honey!”
“Merry Christmas, Mrs. Byers!” Mike, finally catching up his brain-to-movement reactions, moves to let Will in. “Yeah, come in. I’m gonna, uh, go help your mom.”
“Cool.”
He immediately forgets why he’s moved and attempts to step out as Will crosses the threshold, almost knocking him over, so Mike grabs his arms to stabilize with a, “Sorry - uh - whoops, haha, don’t fall,” and Will chuckles and shifts a bag to his shoulder, saying, “It’s alright,” and Mike spends his walk to the Byers’ car trying not to curse himself out.
“Oh, Mike, thank you, sweetie,” Joyce grunts, pulling a heavy tote bag from the floor of the car. “Can you carry this?” Mike nods and takes it from her easily, offering his arms out for extra luggage. Together, with Jonathan, who greets him with a, “Merry Christmas, man,” they manage to get everything inside in one trip. Mike hardly notices El rummaging through the trunk until she comes stumbling along with a basket full of gifts.
Finally, they’re all inside, and only a beat goes by before Nancy comes bounding down the stairs to greet Jonathan, and Joyce is grinning around at everybody, and then Karen rushes in from the kitchen with excited greetings.
“It is so good to see you,” Joyce says, opening her arms up to Mike for a hug. “You’ve grown so much-'' she looks at Karen and mutters, “-so much-” then looks back at Mike. “We’ve missed you all.”
“I’ve missed you guys too,” Mike says, “I’m glad you decided to come.”
“We couldn’t miss it. Figured it’s best that we’re together, you know.” Her expression falters, but she takes a breath and carries on with moving bags and ‘Merry Christmases.’
Joyce and his mom wind up chattering, and Karen takes off her apron to help transfer some luggage to the spare room. Nancy takes Jonathan’s hand and heads upstairs, grabbing one of his bags from the ground.
Will seems to have disappeared into the kitchen with Max, leaving his things behind, so it’s just Mike and El.
Mike takes in a deep breath.
It wasn’t an ugly breakup; honestly, El seemed unfazed. Their calls were little more than small talk about their days, most of the time, and even though he thought they might hold onto their past, everything they’d been through… it seemed to work best that they didn’t.
“Hey, Merry Christmas.”
El smiles easily. “Merry Christmas, Mike.” She lifts the basket slightly for acknowledgment. “Can these go by the tree?”
“Yeah, yeah, go for it.”
El nods and slips by the couch over to the tree, carefully laying out the gifts. After a few moments of Mike awkwardly leaning against the couch arm, thinking up something to say - thank god she didn’t seem too focused on him - Max walks in, her mouth stuffed with a truffle.
“El!” She darts over to the tree, and El jumps up, eyes bright, immediately throwing her arms around the girl’s shoulders. “I missed you so much.”
“I missed you too,” El giggles. “I brought you a gift.”
“You too. I can’t wait for you to see it. But first, you have to try one of these sweets Mrs. Wheeler’s making. They’re like frickin’ heaven.” She holds out the last bite of her own, and El takes it from her hand, eyes lighting up mischievously as she bites into it.
“It’s amazing.”
“I know. I think we should go sample some of the others.”
Mike calls out to their backs, “You guys better leave some for later on,” and in response, hears Max mimic him. He rolls his eyes and stands up from the couch.
And then it’s just him and Will, who’s beaming at him, seemingly amused by their banter.
Okay, Mike, now or never. “Uh, I’ll show you downstairs.”
“We’re not staying in your room?” Will asks simply, crossing over to retrieve his duffel bag.
“We totally can, I just have something I wanted to show you.”
Will nods. “Oh, okay, cool.”
Mike assists with a smaller bag and leads him to the basement door; before he runs down the stairs, he catches Max’s eye, and she gives him a thumbs up and mouths, ‘You got this.’ Deep breaths. At that moment, he’s incredibly thankful for her presence.
He watches as Will follows him down, slower, glancing around at the familiar surroundings. His eyes catch on everything Mike and Max put together over the past few weeks, and his footsteps grow slower as he takes it all in.
Streamers of all festive colors and off-balance fairy lights hang along the corners of the basement, phrases of ‘Welcome home,’ hand-cut and pasted on the front wall; at the table, a game mat and figures sit in wait, silly hats placed in front each chair; even the TV is prepared with a Santa hat, the couch covered in blankets and pillows, a few sleeping bags folded on the floor.
“Mike,” Will says quietly, stepping in a small circle, “what is all this?”
“Your homecoming party.” Mike is all jitters; he leans against the wall and shoves his hands in his pockets to disguise any visible shakes. “You like it?”
Will finally looks straight at him, an indiscernible look painted on his face. “Yeah,” he says, nodding rapidly, “yeah, it’s great - but we, uh,” he swallows and shakes his head, “we don’t, um, have to play D&D. I mean-”
“I don’t know, Will,” he ventures to step away from the wall, taking slow steps over to the table. Will follows every move. “I mean, I was really excited to have you back, even just for a little bit. We all were.” He reaches the table and leans back on his hands. “Figured having our cleric back warranted some festivities.”
Will shakes his head, runs his hands along his face, and turns away. The bit of confidence Mike has slowly starts to trickle.
“Is it okay?”
Will shakes out of his stupor and chuckles. “It’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for me. You’ve truly outdone yourself, Michael.” He lifts himself on tiptoe to look at decorations on top of Mike’s shelves. “Are these from our big craft night, like, years ago?”
The horrible crayon work makes Mike smile - they made half of the snowmen evil, citing a Great Abominable Snowman War, and gave them wicked frowns and smiles, claws on their stick hands. “Yeah.”
“I didn’t know you kept them.”
“I keep everything.” An awkward chuckle breaks from his chest. “Not everything, like, a hoarder or whatever, but - “
Will simply smiles and pushes himself forward toward the back wall, brushing past Mike, to his different pinups. He fixates on the sketch of Mike that he’d sent about a month back. “You know, you should probably take this down. I don’t think you’ll hear the end of it from Lucas and Dustin if you don’t.”
“Screw ‘em.”
“Right.” Will quirks his eyebrow and moves to sit in his designated chair, right next to where Mike is currently resting. “So, they know about D&D?”
“They know.” Mike smiles, and looks at the floor, right where their legs brush up against each other. “They seem pretty excited to have the party back together. To remind you of how badass your first one was,” he adds.
Will peers up at him for a moment before quietly saying, “I never joined another one.” Mike meets his eye for a moment, then, threatened by the silence that follows, clears his throat and distracts himself with a particularly interesting notch in the wood paneling. “Did you guys find someone else?”
“No, no,” Mike assures him. “We haven’t touched any of this stuff. It’s not the same.”
A silence settles between them, one that neither seems to know how to navigate. But Will keeps his gaze steady on Mike, trying to breach some barrier, to fall back into their usual ways.
Something is different, though; it’s not uncomfortable, it never could be, but it’s something intimidating. Will seems more comfortable, at least; he’s not shying away from anything Mike throws at him.
And he tries to break the silence first. “Y’know - “
“Will,” Mike cuts him off, and he’s not sure what he’s saying, or where he’s going with it, but he knows he’s supposed to say this. His name. “I need you to know that I missed you.”
Will blinks at him, cocks his head. “I missed you too,” he says matter-of-factly.
The words are eating at him, right there on the edge of his mind, and Will looks almost concerned and now Mike just wants to drop it because that’s not what he wanted. But he can’t, not now. “I missed you the most.” It sounds so juvenile. “More than everyone else. I missed you before you even left. I just didn’t know how to say it.” He breathes in and out, focusing on Will’s cheeks, the tip of his nose, anything but his eyes. When Will doesn’t say anything, the rest just spills. “I missed you when our first first day of school apart came and passed, and I didn’t even call. I missed you at homecoming. And,” he licks his lips, not really sure where his speech is heading, “I know you had to go, it’s fine. We’ll figure it out. But I feel like we haven’t been on the same page in a long time. So, I missed you, and I love you, and that’s that.”
Will looks at him funny, and then his face softens into something like laughter, and Mike is genuinely about to run and throw up somewhere, but then the boy closes his eyes and says, “I love you too.”
Mike blanches. “I don’t think I said that.”
“Oh, you definitely did.”
“Oh,” he nods, mind spinning, “well, you know…”
Will stands to be at Mike’s level, leans forward on his knees. Mike stops breathing. “I do,” he says, “but tell me again.”
Mike swallows down a breath of courage and suggests, “I think I might like you.” His eyes flit to Will’s lips, then back to his eyes. “Is that okay?”
“Yeah, I’ll allow it,” Will says, a bright smile causing lines near his eyes. Mike smacks at his arm, nervous laughter coming out with a quiet, ‘Shut up.’ Will moves so he’s resting his fingertips on the table. Inches away.
“Same page, then?” Mike asks.
“Same page, yeah, for sure.”
Mike nods absently, distracting himself with the strings on Will’s sweatshirt. “So I don’t sound crazy?”
Will laughs. “I dunno. I always counted on us going crazy together. Figured we might have a few extra years, but hey, I’m all in.”
And then Mike is flashed back to a night on his couch just over a year ago. Knees knocking together, shared smiles. A promise.
So much has changed.
He wants to know what Will meant. A future of being in each other’s lives, maybe, getting old and senile and batshit crazy. Always being there.
He never dared to think about it before.
“So what now?”
Will shrugs. He dips his head to meet Mike’s eyes with his own. “What do you want, Mike?”
And finally, he thinks he might know.
Or maybe he’s always known.
He scoots forward, takes Will’s face in his hands, and kisses him. It’s just a quick press of their lips, but in that moment, he knows a few things for sure. His heartbeat is going a mile a minute, and Will must be able to feel it; it’s absolutely exhilarating, surreal, insane that he’s kissing his best friend; and, he is definitely in like, or maybe love, with Will Byers.
He’ll probably love him forever.
When Mike pulls back and his eyes flutter open to see Will, flushed, blinking back at him, slightly dazed, he doesn’t want to pull away at all. He did that. Mike’s hand remains on his jaw, lax, and he runs his thumb along Will’s bottom lip, curious to see his reaction, curious about a lot, now.
Will lets out a breathy chuckle. “Wow,” he mumbles, “that’s new.”
“Yeah.” Mike exhales shakily, takes one of Will’s hands, and says, “Merry Christmas, Will.”
“Yeah, Merry Christmas.”
The world doesn’t seem to fall apart like Mike thought it might if he ever got to this point, so, that’s nice.
“So…” Mike begins carefully, “you’re gonna have to be slow with me here. This is sort of a lot for me.”
“Me too,” Will replies simply. He squeezes Mike’s hand. “But we’ll figure it out.”
“Totally.”
Will takes his cheeks in his hands and smiles into a very gentle kiss, his fingers curling into the hair at the nape of Mike’s neck. It’s soft and sweet and lingering - but not for too long, as moments later the door upstairs busts open and shouts of, “BYERS!” from their dear friends sound through the air, and Mike and Will jump apart, equally startled and laughing.
“Down here!” Will calls out. He looks at Mike, smiles, offers, “To be continued?” and as he walks past, he leans in, just to leave a quick peck on Mike’s cheek.
And all Mike can do is laugh and shake his head and run after him to meet their friends; Lucas and Dustin are horribly late to the surprise, but they collide into Will the second they see him, shouting over each other, ‘What’s going on, dude?’ ‘Merry Christmas!’ ‘You’ve missed so much,’ and everyone is grinning and chattering, and it’s awesome.
Max approaches him, watching all of the madness, smacks a hand to his shoulder, and says, “You did good, Wheeler.”
“Yeah, I did.” She punches his arm lightly, laughing, so he adds, “thank you for everything. Seriously.”
“I think we should work together more often.”
Mike scoffs into a laugh, and says, “Yeah, guess so.”
Max rolls her eyes, but at least now they’re actually laughing in each other's company. It’s great progress from just a few weeks ago.
After a minute of watching the boy’s shenanigans, Max smiles. “Well, Merry Christmas, anyway.”
“Merry Christmas,” he responds, and he watches as she jumps up onto a kitchen stool, chatting and giggling with El.
With everyone back together again, finally, Mike feels really alive; so, he jumps in with all the excited shouting and group hugs and bickering, and celebrates the merriest Christmas he can remember in a long time.

Best Two Out of Three, Part 26
This is it: the last chapter of BTOOT 😭
I wrote a long, sappy post about what this means to me *months* ago when I thought we would finish much sooner than we did (whoops), so I won’t get into all that again. However, I will say that this is a huge accomplishment for me because I have never finished a multi-part fic until now. But I didn’t do it on my own. I absolutely could not have completed this in the time that I did without @hotyeehawman, and BTOOT absolutely would not be the fic that it is without her. So thank you so much, Lauren. We wrote a whole ass 123,419-word, 228-page mf’in fanfiction novel in less than a year 😳
And, at the risk of sounding cheesy AF, we couldn’t have done it without you all, either. The response to this little wrasslin’ fic consistently blows us away. SO THANK YOU. It means more than words can say. So once you finish reading this last chapter, please come scream at me in your tags, in the comments, in my asks, in my DMs. Because I cannot wait to hear your thoughts.
Alright, enough of that 🤧 I’ll let you get to reading 😉

Callie pulled her phone out of her purse to check the time again. 8:57 a.m. She put it back and glanced anxiously around the hotel lobby. She and Cash had agreed to meet there at nine to head to Orlando, and with each passing minute she worried that it would be Matt who stepped out of the elevator instead.
Their conversation had played on a nonstop loop in her head all night. This all happened way too fast. Yeah, I guess it did. Over and over again. Except, in her head, it didn’t end the way it had last night. Instead of Matt walking off she called out to him to wait. She told him that the reason she’d been avoiding him was because she felt guilty about how much she enjoyed being with him. Her brain told her it was wrong, but her heart told her otherwise, and because she didn’t know how to reconcile the two it was easier to just avoid the issue all together.
And that’s exactly what she was doing now: avoiding the issue by going to Orlando with Cash. And she wasn’t just going for the day—she was staying the night at his place.
It had been Cash’s suggestion that she spend the night. It’ll save me a round trip, he’d said via text. It made sense; they both had to be back in Jacksonville for Dynamite tomorrow, so there was no point in making Cash drive four extra hours tonight. So, Callie had agreed.
But, deep down, she knew she’d mostly agreed because it helped her avoid Matt that much more.
She pulled out her phone again, but rather than check the time she opened the camera and flipped it to face toward her. Her double black eyes had worsened from last night, turning an ugly bluish color, but thankfully some full-coverage concealer had made them barely noticeable. Even so, she pushed her oversized sunglasses onto her face. The last thing she needed was people thinking she was a battered woman.
The elevator dinged, and Callie’s chest constricted as the doors slid open. Mercifully, it was Cash.
“You ready?” he asked as he moved toward her. “Sorry I’m a little late.”
She nodded and jumped up from her seat. “Mhm,” she said as she grabbed her suitcase. She couldn’t leave the hotel fast enough.
* * * * * * * * * *
The drive to Orlando was mostly quiet. Cash had asked her if there was anything in particular she wanted to do or see, but she’d just told him she was up for whatever. She knew absolutely nothing about Orlando outside of the fact that Disney World and Universal Studios were there and the little bit she’d seen when she’d stayed with Britt. But Cash didn’t seem bothered by her apparent lack of enthusiasm; he’d just grinned and said, “I got you.” It made Callie’s stomach flutter.
They dropped off their bags at his place and she met his English bulldog, Pawla, before they set off for their first stop of the day. Cash seemed excited as he steered his truck into a parking lot in front of a large complex. Callie, however, was more than just a little confused when she saw what it was.
“Go-karts?”
She hadn’t meant to sound so disappointed, but Cash just let out a laugh. “What? You don’t like go-karts?”
She didn’t answer, looking skeptically out the window at the building. For whatever reason, it made her think of Alex. Go-karts seemed more her speed. She frowned. I wonder if he took her here, too.
“Come on, it’ll be fun,” Cash said. “I think you could use the adrenaline boost.”
“I can think of better ways to get an adrenaline boost.”
As soon as she said it, Callie wished she could take it back. It had just slipped out, implication and all. She looked hesitantly at Cash. He was smirking.
“I’m sure you can,” he returned. Callie felt her cheeks burn hot behind her sunglasses.
“Come on,” he repeated as he unbuckled his seat belt. “I’ll let you pick where we go to lunch afterward.”
He got out of the truck, and Callie drew in a deep, calming breath through her nose as she did the same.
Maybe avoiding Matt wasn’t the only reason she’d decided to stay overnight in Orlando.
* * * * * * * * * *
Alex still hadn’t gotten over what had happened at the Labor Day party. In a word, she felt awful. She wanted to text Callie and apologize again, but between nearly breaking her nose and all but telling her to stay away from Matt, she doubted she wanted to hear from her. So, in hopes of boosting her mood, she’d decided to sit out by Kenny’s pool and soak up the last vestiges of summer while she still could.
But, so far, it hadn’t worked.
Her phone chirped next to her on the lounger, and she picked it up and unlocked the screen. She had a text from Trent.
Hey loser. You have plans today?
She rolled her eyes, but a smile tugged at her lips as she typed back. Not really. Why?
She hit “send,” but instead of setting the phone back down she opened up Instagram. She clicked on Jay White’s story and let it autoplay through a couple more people before it unexpectedly came to Cash’s story. It was a Boomerang video of an indoor go-kart track. Alex recognized it; he’d taken her there one of the first weekends she’d stayed with him in Orlando.
A banner appeared at the top of her screen with Trent’s reply. Because Sam is in town if you want to come hang out.
That caught her off-guard. Sam, the boys’ friend who she’d first met five years ago. Alex had had no idea she was going to be in Jacksonville. Had one of them told her and it’d slipped her mind? But she didn’t think too much of it as she opened the text and sent her response.
Idk. After yesterday I kind of just feel like being a hermit today.
She went back to Instagram and refreshed the page—and her eyes widened at the first picture that popped up.
Callie, a bright smile on her face as she posed in a helmet at the very same indoor go-kart track from Cash’s story.
“Are you shitting me?”
“There you are.”
Alex nearly dropped her phone on her face at the sound of Kenny’s voice. He gave her an amused look. “You alright?”
“Yeah…” she started. But she thought better of it and huffed, “No.”
Kenny cocked his head in concern as he sat down on the edge of the lounger next to her. “What’s wrong?”
Alex let out a sound that was half sigh, half groan. The last thing she wanted to do was to complain to Kenny about Callie and Cash, of all people. But if she couldn’t talk to him about it, who could she? “I’m just frustrated with the whole Callie situation,” she breathed.
She glanced at him from underneath the bill of her baseball cap. He frowned sympathetically at her. “I know, baby. But you didn’t hit her on purpose. If she doesn’t believe that it’s her problem.”
“It’s not just that,” she interjected. “According to Instagram she’s in Orlando with Cash right now.”
His brow furrowed in confusion when she said that. Alex knew exactly what he was thinking. “I don’t give two shits about Cash,” she assured him. “He can do whatever and whoever he wants. Honestly, I expect bullshit like this from him. But I don’t get where Callie’s head is at. Where the hell does she get off blaming me for ruining her relationship with Adam while she’s off driving fucking go-karts with the guy who stabbed him in the back? It hasn’t even been two weeks since she left him!”
“Because it’s what Callie does,” Kenny blithely returned. “She thinks she’s blameless in everything and doesn’t take accountability for anything. This isn’t the first time she’s shown you that’s exactly the kind of person she is.”
“But we were friends, Kenny! Somehow, we got over all the bullshit and became friends, and then fucking Adam…”
She trailed off, her voice growing thick with emotion, and looked to the ceiling. She didn’t want to get upset. But it was hard not to. She felt betrayed. That was the only word for it.
“Hey.” Kenny put a hand on her bare leg, drawing her eyes back to his. “Do you want my honest advice?”
She nodded.
“Stop wasting your energy on Callie and Adam. They’re not worth it, Alex. You’ve given them so much of your time and effort and what have you gotten in return?”
A tear rolled out of the corner of her eye and she quickly wiped it away. She didn’t need to answer him. They both knew the answer. “I know,” she softly agreed. “You’re probably right.”
A corner of his mouth quirked up. “Of course I am.” He leaned over and kissed the side of her head. “I was thinking about ordering sushi for dinner tonight. That always makes you feel better.”
She perked up a bit at that. “Can we get sake, too?”
He nodded. “Yes, I’ll get you sake, too.”
She smiled. “Okay.”
He gave her leg an affectionate squeeze and stood. “Well, I’m gonna go get a workout in. Wanna join me?”
Alex couldn’t help herself. “Is that a euphemism?”
He grinned. “No, despite how much I want to take that bikini off you right now.”
She just playfully rolled her eyes in response.
“Come on,” he said, holding out his hand. “Endorphins will make you feel better, too.”
Alex emitted a dramatic groan as she put her hand in his and let him pull her to her feet. “Not if you try to kill me like you did last time,” she argued.
“But I always take good care of you afterward,” he said. “That was a euphemism, by the way.”
She returned his smirk. “Yeah, I got it.”
* * * * * * * * * *
To Cash’s credit, the go-karts had been fun—but Callie was more than happy to take the lead on the rest of the day. She’d picked out a restaurant on International Drive for lunch (Cash had groaned and said that was where all the tourists went, to which she’d cheekily replied that she was a tourist), and afterward he’d convinced her to ride the Ferris wheel at ICON Park, where he’d pointed out some of the different areas of the city to her (Callie, who was afraid of heights, had kept a death grip on his arm the entire time). Then, at Callie’s request, they’d driven around some of the neighborhoods so that she could get a better feel for them (“Obviously, I recommend my neighborhood,” Cash had said). Overall, it had turned out to be a good day after all, and Orlando was looking more and more like the place Callie wanted to move.
But, the more time she spent with him, the more she started to wonder how much of that feeling was due to Cash.
“What’re you craving?” he asked as they sat on the couch in his living room.
“You pick,” she returned. Pawla lounged between them, and she reached down to scratch her behind the ears. “I’m honestly still stuffed from lunch.”
“Chinese it is,” he decided, and he pulled out his phone to order. Callie did the same, but to open up Instagram—and she found that Alex was the first person in her stories queue. She stared at the little circle of her profile picture, hesitant. But she was too nosy not to look, so she angled her phone screen away from Cash and clicked.
There were only two pictures in her story. The first showed her in sweat-drenched workout gear lying face-down on a gym room floor with the caption, “@/kennyomegamanx tried to kill me again.” The second was of her smiling in satisfaction in front of a takeout container of sushi. “He made up for it,” the caption read.
“I guess Alex and Kenny aren’t hiding their relationship anymore.”
She froze and glanced at Cash out of the corner of her eye. That was the second time that day she’s put her foot in her mouth. “I’m sorry,” she apologized. “They’re probably the last two people you want to hear about.”
But Cash shook his head. “I don’t care. They can have each other.”
Callie frowned. She wasn’t sure how to respond to that, but he spoke up again before she could.
“Do you prefer beef and broccoli or chicken?”
She thought for a second. “Beef.”
A few more clicks and he finished putting in the order. “It says it’ll be here in thirty-five minutes,” he said as he stood from the couch. “You want a drink? I have a bottle of The Rock’s tequila, it’s really good.”
Callie’s nose scrunched up. “Do you have vodka?”
“Yeah. You want it on the rocks or mixed?”
“Mixed please.”
He nodded and disappeared into the kitchen. Callie occupied herself with petting Pawla until he returned with their drinks a few minutes later. “Here you go; vanilla vodka and Coke Zero.”
“Oo, that sounds good,” she said as he handed her the cocktail. She took a sip. He’d made it just right, not too much vodka, not too little.
“So, what’d you think of Orlando?” he asked as he sat back down. “Did I convince you to become my neighbor?”
His choice of words made her stomach flutter again. “I think so. There’s more to do here than in Jacksonville, and a two-hour drive to work is a lot better than a cross-country flight.”
He nodded. “Yeah, I like it. Dax is planning on moving back to Asheville, but I think I’m gonna stay here. It’s grown on me. Plus, I like Disney and Universal Studios too much.”
“Yeah, I definitely want to check those out,” she returned.
“We should plan a weekend,” he smirked. Callie took a sip of her drink to hide her blush.
They fell into silence, and they both turned their attention to the random show Cash had put on the television. But there was something hanging in the air; Callie could feel it. She was about to speak up when Cash beat her to it.
“So, we’ve avoided the topic all day, but I kind of feel like I have to ask now.”
There was no need for him to clarify what he meant. “Matt?” she guessed.
He nodded. She shifted in her seat. “What about him?”
“Well… are you two not together?”
He sounded almost hopeful. She hesitated to respond.
“That was the rumor backstage,” he added.
She rolled her eyes. “Of course it was. But I guess, yeah, at one point it was moving in that direction. But… I actually told him last night that I think we rushed into things.”
“Oh,” Cash said. It was obvious that he expected her to continue, but her confusion over Matt was the last thing Callie wanted to get into right now. So, she deflected.
“There’s something I need to ask you, too.”
Cash arched his eyebrows as he raised his glass to his lips. “That doesn’t sound good,” he joked.
But Callie wasn’t joking. “Why’d you do what you did to Adam?”
He paused to cock his head at her. “What do you mean?”
She shot him a flat look as he took a sip of his drink. “I mean when you stabbed him in the back, Cash.”
Cash made a noise as he swallowed down the tequila. “Damn, not pulling any punches, huh?”
“You didn’t with Adam.”
He looked back at her in surprise. She didn’t waiver. He breathed out again.
“Alright, look,” he started. “I don’t have anything against Adam. I’ve known him a long time. But he and Kenny had what we wanted, and we did what we had to do to get it.”
She rolled her eyes again. That was such a canned response.
“What?”
“You did not have to do what you did,” she returned. “You didn’t have to manipulate him the way you did.”
His eyebrows arched. “Manipulate him? Callie, all we did was point out that Kenny and the Bucks don’t give two shits about him. He did the rest himself.”
“What?”
“I swear.”
“So you didn’t tell him to sabotage Matt and Nick in the gauntlet match?”
“No! He did that because he was upset about you and Matt!”
Callie’s brow puckered in confusion. “What?”
“Yeah,” he confirmed. “He told us at the hotel bar that night that he found out right before the gauntlet match that you were staying with Matt in California, so he retaliated by sabotaging their title shot. Dax and I didn’t have anything to do with that, I promise you.”
The room grew silent as his words sunk in, stunning her. That was exactly what Alex had surmised when Matt had confronted her immediately after the gauntlet match. But Callie hadn’t wanted to believe it, and after FTR had turned on Adam she’d assumed that they’d been the ones to put the idea in his head.
But if Cash was telling her that they hadn’t, then it meant she really was to blame.
“Hey,” Cash softly beckoned. She looked back up at him. His eyes were earnest. “It’s not your fault. I didn’t mean to make it sound like it was. You didn’t do anything wrong.”
Callie stared down into her drink, tapping her fingernails on the glass. She appreciated the sentiment, but she didn’t agree. Not really. “Well, technically I walked out him, so…”
She trailed off and took a long drink. She felt like such a bitch. I shouldn’t be here.
“And?” Cash returned, drawing her out of her thoughts. “I’m sure you had good reason to.”
Callie didn’t answer right away, nearly draining her drink. Once she’d had enough, she looked down at Pawla and scratched her head again. “Let’s not talk about it anymore,” she said.
“Done,” he said, and she sent him a tight, grateful smile. “So what do you wanna do? Watch a movie?”
She nodded. “Yeah, that sounds good. I just have one request.”
“What’s that?” he asked.
“Anything but Mean Girls.”
* * * * * * * * * *
When Matt arrived at Daily’s Place on Wednesday, he had half a mind to go to Tony and tell him to cancel the mixed tag match. He had no desire to wrestle a match with Callie anymore. To be frank, he didn’t want much of anything to do with her at the moment.
He knew she’d been in Orlando with Cash yesterday. He’d seen her Instagram photo at the go-kart track and hadn’t thought much of it. But not long after, Kenny had texted him.
Hey, did you know Callie is in Orlando with Cash right now?
It had caught him completely off-guard. No? he’d responded. Who told you that?
He’d been more on-edge than he cared to admit while he’d awaited Kenny’s reply. Alex. I guess they posted photos from the same place on Instagram or something.
A quick search for Cash’s Instagram profile—Matt didn’t follow that asshole—had confirmed the claim to be true. It wasn’t a photo, but a Boomerang video on his story that gave it away. It was unmistakably the same indoor go-kart track from Callie’s picture.
I just thought you should know, Kenny had followed up. Matt hadn’t responded. He’d tried to put it out of his mind ever since, but he couldn’t. He kept going back to what Callie had said to him the last time he’d seen her.
This all happened way too fast.
He didn’t disagree; they had moved fast. But what confused him was that Callie had been the one to set the pace, not him. He’d thought she’d wanted everything that had happened between them.
But the way she was acting now made him feel like nothing more than a regret.
“Matt.”
“Hm.” He looked up from his phone at Brandon. He, Nick, and Kenny all stared expectantly at him from across the EVP room.
“Do you want me to film the mixed tag match for BTE?” Brandon asked. His tone that conveyed he was repeating himself. Matt obviously hadn’t heard him the first time.
“Oh, no. Sorry,” he replied, and he looked back down at his phone. He saw the three of them exchange a wary glance out of his peripheral vision. Thankfully, they just left it alone.
“Alright, I’m starving,” Nick announced as he stood from his seat. “You guys coming?”
“Yeah,” Brandon agreed.
“No,” Kenny wearily returned. “I got that interview with JR.”
There was a pause. And then, “Matt?”
He looked up again, this time at his brother. He shook his head. “No. I’m not hungry.”
Nick let out a breath. “Alright,” he said, and he and Brandon went out the door, leaving Matt and Kenny alone. The silence in the room was deafening. But it didn’t last long.
“Have you talked to Callie at all?” Kenny asked. “About the match,” he quickly clarified.
Matt shook his head again. “No. I haven’t talked to her period. Not since Monday.”
There was another beat of uncomfortable silence. Again, Kenny was the one to break it. “Look, about yesterday. I wasn’t trying to—”
“Don’t,” Matt abruptly cut him off. He knew exactly what he was going to say, and he didn’t want to hear it. “I’m glad you told me. Let’s just leave it at that.”
He raised his palms in surrender. “Fine,” he said, and Matt hoped that really was the end of it.
But then Kenny added, “But I think you owe Alex an apology.”
“What?” Matt cut his eyes at him in disbelief. “For what?”
“Oh, come on, you know exactly for what. For the whole reason the mixed tag match is happening in the first place.”
That confused him even more. “The mixed tag match is happening because Trent can’t mind his fucking business.”
Kenny rolled his eyes. “Oh, okay,” he sarcastically returned.
“What?”
“You called Alex a slut, Matt!” Kenny burst. “That’s what led to the mixed tag match! You accused her of putting Hangman up to sabotaging your title shot and you called her a slut for being involved with both me and Cash. But where was Callie yesterday? In Orlando with Cash, even though she’s apparently with you. So yeah, I think you owe Alex an apology.”
Matt sat back, physically stung by Kenny’s words. They hurt because there was more than just a grain of truth in them. But, at the moment, he was too stubborn to hear it. “Oh, so Callie’s the slut now? Is that what you’re saying?”
Kenny expelled an exasperated breath. “No, that’s not what I’m saying.”
“It sure fucking sounds like it is.”
“I’m saying she’s making you look like a fucking idiot.”
They were thrown into silence again, their arguing replaced with quiet, palpable hostility as they sat opposed on either end of the room. Matt’s eyes turned dark. He didn’t need this. Not now. Not from his best friend.
“Fuck you, Kenny,” he spat. He stood and stalked toward the door, and as he gripped the handle he turned back, a cutting remark on the tip of his tongue. But in a moment of clarity, he decided it was better left unsaid. The shoe was on the other foot now. So he just went out the door, suddenly glad that he did have a match. He needed to hit something.
* * * * * * * * * *
“Are you guys going out for Jim’s match?”
Alex glanced across the locker room at Trent, looking for him to answer Chuck’s question. He met her gaze before responding.
“I don’t think so,” he said. “We’ll probably stay back here and focus on our match.”
Chuck nodded. “Yeah. I wish it wasn’t mixed tag rules. I’d like to see Alex hand Matt his ass.”
“Oh, she doesn’t even need to touch him to do that,” Trent returned. “Didn’t he train Callie?”
Alex knew he was asking her, but she didn’t look up as she rummaged through her suitcase. “I think so.”
Trent smirked. “So then kicking Callie’s ass will be kicking Matt’s by proxy,” he said. Chuck blinked at him.
“Wow, you actually used that correctly.”
He sucked his teeth. “Fuck off. I know big words.”
“‘Proxy’ is a five-letter word.”
“You know what I meant.”
“Spell it.”
“Are you serious?”
Alex smirked to herself and let them continue to argue while she grabbed the top to her gear and a pair of joggers and went into the bathroom to change. Truth be told, she didn’t want to talk or even think about the match against Callie and Matt. It was a complete one-eighty from a week ago—she’d been aching to kick Matt’s ass then. But now, she just wished the entire situation would go away.
She finished changing and returned to the main area of the locker room. Chuck was still challenging Trent to spell different words. “I’m going to hair and makeup,” she announced over them.
“What gear are you wearing?” Trent asked.
She turned to face him as she pulled on her zip-up hoodie. Her top was a sparkly dark silver-purple with black trim. “This gear. Why?”
“Because we should try to match. I knew I should have brought the gear from Fyter Fest…” he trailed off as he dug through his things and pulled out his dark gray tights with the blue and pink designs. “Do these work?”
Alex gave him a soft smile. “Yeah, those work. I’ll ask Stella to do a blue and pink eye look,” she said, and she went out the door.
Unfortunately, she didn’t get ten steps before she ran into Adam.
He slowed to a stop when he saw her. “Hey.”
“Hey,” she returned, and her brow puckered with concern as she looked him over. He had his ubiquitous glass of whiskey in hand, but he at least looked better than he had when she’d seen him at the hotel on Sunday. “Going somewhere?”
He looked confused at that. “No… why?”
She awkwardly fidgeted with the sleeve of her hoodie. “Well, you just look dressed for TV and I didn’t see you on the card tonight. I wasn’t even sure you were here.”
Adam hadn’t said a single word to her since she’d texted him to ask if he was going to the Labor Day party. But she hadn’t said a single word to him since then, either. Because the more she’d thought about it, the more she’d realized how right Kenny was. It was exhausting putting so much effort into a friendship where she wasn’t getting the same effort in return.
“Oh,” Adam regretfully said as he looked down at his pale blue button-up. “Yeah, I just had an interview with Schiavone.”
“Oh,” Alex repeated. “About—”
“Where I go from here,” he interjected. “I said I was still open to tagging with Kenny if he was.”
He laughed wryly to himself and took a sip of his drink. Alex frowned and looked away. Kenny was not open to tagging with him again; she knew that for a fact. But judging by the look on Adam’s face, deep down he knew that, too.
“Where are you headed?”
She looked back up at him. “Oh, hair and makeup. For the match tonight.”
Realization dawned in his eyes. And then, sadness and hurt. “Oh, right. You have the mixed tag against Matt and Callie.”
“Yeah.” Alex fidgeted and glanced away again. She couldn’t bear the look on his face. But then she wondered: did he know that Callie had been in Orlando with Cash yesterday? Should she tell him?
No, she quickly decided. It’s not your place or responsibility.
“Well, I should get over there,” she said, gesturing in the direction of hair and makeup.
“Oh, yeah,” he nodded as she started walking. “Good luck tonight.”
“Thanks,” she said, and she turned and hurried off as quickly as she could.
* * * * * * * * * *
In the years since she’d started wrestling, Callie had never felt as much of an outcast as she did now. As soon as she’d arrived at the arena with Cash, she’d realized she had nowhere to go. The EVP room was out of the question, and she didn’t want to go back to sharing a dressing room with Britt—she was the one who’d blabbed her business all over Daily’s Place to begin with. Cash had offered for her to share with him and Dax, but she’d turned him down; she could only imagine the rumors that would start if people noticed her sharing a locker room with FTR. No, she needed to keep a low-profile, and so she’d found an empty room away from everyone else. Now, she sat in one of the lounges watching the show as she awaited her match, alone.
Orange Cassidy had just beaten Angelico with the Orange Punch. Callie had expected Best Friends and Alex to be at ringside for the match, but they weren’t. She looked away from the TV and down at her phone as Bryce Remsburg raised Orange’s arm in victory, but a commotion a moment later redrew her attention. Santana and Ortiz had attacked Orange from behind. The assault didn’t last long, however, as Chuck and Trent ran out and chased them off like a pair of guard dogs. Callie couldn’t help but roll her eyes as Trent angrily paced the ring, shirtless in his skinny jeans. She sincerely hoped Matt would get a quick pin on him in their match.
Chuck grabbed a mike to speak, but Callie’s phone buzzed in her hands and she looked down at the screen. It was a text from Cash.
Are you free? I need a favor.
Her pulse picked up a bit as she unlocked her phone to respond. Yeah… what’s up? she typed back and hit “send.” She watched as the typing bubble appeared and, soon after, his answer.
Don’t laugh. I can’t decide on a shirt.
Despite his request, Callie couldn’t help but let out a little laugh. But she couldn’t blame him too much; FTR was having an in-ring celebration in honor of their championship victory at All Out that night. He probably wanted to look his best.
Usual room? she asked as she stood to leave.
Usual room, he replied, and she headed off in the direction of FTR’s dressing room.
The door was slightly open when she arrived, and she knocked to announce herself before she let herself in. Cash stood alone in the middle of the room in a pair of dark navy slacks and socks, shirtless. Callie’s mouth went suddenly dry as he looked over at her.
“Okay, I can’t decide between these two.” He motioned to a pair of dress shirts hung up in the cubby behind him—one white with tiny blue dots, the other with a subtle blue and white checkered pattern. She walked over and pulled them both out of the cubby so that she could hold them up next to him. He smirked at her as she studied them. She did her best to ignore it.
“This one,” she decided, handing him the checkered shirt. But she frowned as she returned the white shirt to its place. “Are those the only dress shoes you have?” she asked, nodding at the pair of black square-toed loafers on the floor.
“Yeah…” Cash slowly returned. “Why? Is something wrong with them?”
It took every fiber of Callie’s being not to blurt out with, “Yes, they’re hideous.” Instead, she said, “Just brown would look better with navy, is all.”
“Oh,” he realized. “I guess I should have asked your advice before we left this morning.”
She smirked. “Is that all you needed?”
“Yeah, thanks,” he answered as he pulled on the shirt. Callie watched as he fastened the buttons, and she realized she was staring. She fidgeted and looked awkwardly away, but Cash didn’t seem to notice. “Are you ready for your match?”
She drew in a deep breath. “Physically, yes. Mentally… not at all.”
He snorted. “Make Matt do all the work. He’s the one who dragged you into this.”
Callie anxiously bit her lip. He wasn’t wrong; of the four of them in the mixed tag, she was the only one who hadn’t been present when the match was made. But even so, she couldn’t do that to Matt. “No, I don’t want to do that. And besides, Matt didn’t ask for the match, either—Trent did. All because he didn’t like Matt mouthing off about Alex.”
Cash rolled his eyes as he tucked his shirt into his pants. “That doesn’t surprise me. I think he has a thing for her.”
She scoffed. “You think he does? Please, it’s obvious he does,” she said. And then she muttered, “It seems like everyone has a thing for her.”
“Not me,” Cash abruptly announced. “I’ve moved on.”
Callie looked up at him, but he turned away to grab his suit jacket. She wondered if he had more to say—it felt like he had more to say—but before she could ask the door to the locker room opened and Dax walked in. He halted when he saw her.
“Oh, hey, Callie. I’m not interrupting anything, am I?”
He glanced between her and Cash. They both quickly shook their heads. “No, I just asked her to come help me pick out a shirt,” Cash said.
“Ah,” Dax nodded. Callie didn’t miss the little smirk on his face. It was her cue to go.
“Well, I’ll go so you can get dressed,” she said to Dax as she started to leave.
“Good luck if I don’t see you before your match,” Cash returned, and she gave him a tight smile and went out the door.
* * * * * * * * * *
Alex’s hands were clammy as she stood at Gorilla with Trent. The mixed tag match was next. Unfortunately, it was right after FTR’s joke of a tag team championship celebration. She did her best to tune out Dax’s egotistical blathering as she rolled her neck and loosened up. She needed to focus. A match was a match, and even though she wasn’t looking forward to this one, she still wanted to do her best.
“You ready for this?” Trent asked.
She looked up at him and nodded. “Yeah. Are you?” she meaningfully returned. She still couldn’t believe that he and Chuck had challenged Santana and Ortiz to a parking lot brawl next week. On top of worrying that they’d murder each other, she was concerned that Trent’s focus was no longer on their match.
“Yes,” he assured her. “Don’t worry about me.”
Alex smirked. “Man, have I got bad news for you next week.”
He gave her a crooked smile; but then his eye was drawn to a spot just past her shoulder. She turned to look. Matt and Callie had arrived.
Trent scoffed. “They don’t match at all. Losers.”
Normally, Alex would have laughed. But it was obvious even in the dim lighting of Gorilla that Matt and Callie’s gear wasn’t the only thing off about them. Callie in particular seemed unsure of herself. Her eyes met Alex’s. She turned away without a second glance.
Back in the ring, the “celebration” came to a screeching halt when Jurassic Express dumped a cooler full of beer cans over Cash, Dax, and Tully’s heads. Thankfully, they returned backstage a different way than through the entrance tunnels.
Alex drew in a breath and shook out her arms and legs as the show went to commercial. But it seemed like no time had passed at all when she heard the distinctive beat of the Best Friends theme song sound throughout the arena.
“Let’s do this,” Trent said as he held out his fist to her. She bumped it confidently with her own, and they walked into the tunnel together.
* * * * * * * * * *
A boulder settled in the pit of Callie’s stomach as she watched Alex and Trent disappear down the entrance tunnel. She didn’t know why she’d expected Alex to be just as nervous as her. On the contrary, she’d looked laser-focused; her and Trent both had. It was glaringly obvious that they were ten times more prepared for this match than she and Matt were. The two of them hadn’t even walked to Gorilla together—they’d just happened to get there at the same time.
“I’ll start the match,” Matt said. “I’ll try to keep your ring time to a minimum.”
Callie looked at him in hurt and confusion. “Why would you say that?”
“Because it’s obvious you don’t want to do this,” he breathed. “So I’ll just make quick work of Trent and get it over with, alright?”
“SUPERKICK PARTAYYYYYY!”
The opening of the Young Bucks theme interrupted before Callie could say anything. Matt didn’t so much as glance at her before he walked into the tunnel, and she had no choice but to follow him out.
The crowd offered a mixture of boos and cheers as they walked out onto the stage, but Callie couldn’t hear them over the music. She stood awkwardly next to Matt and waited for him to do his signature pose, but he never did. He just glared into the ring at Trent, who glared right back.
BOOM!
The cannons on the side of the stage shot fake $100 bills high into the air, making Callie flinch. She looked back into the ring as the paper money floated down around them. Alex rolled her eyes in annoyance and turned to say something to Trent.
She stood stiffly at the top of the stage until Matt moved, and they made their way down the entrance ramp. Trent started jaw-jacking, but Callie tuned him out as she took her place on the ring apron. Matt, however, took the bait; Aubrey had to push him back as they yelled at each other. Eventually, Trent scoffed and turned back to Alex.
“You wanna start?” Callie heard him ask.
But Alex didn’t even get the chance to open her mouth before Matt yelled, “No, we’re starting the match!”
Alex and Trent exchanged a look, but she stepped through the ropes and out onto the apron next to the turnbuckle. Matt removed his leather jacket and tossed it to the floor. Aubrey called for the bell, and the match started.
* * * * * * * * * *
Alex didn’t know if Matt was ignoring Callie, if Trent just wanted to beat the shit out of Matt, or if it was some combination of both. But whatever the case, the match had been going on for nearly ten minutes now, and neither of them had even tried to tag in her or Callie. It was aggravating, but at least it worked in her team’s favor. The match had effectively become a singles contest, and Trent had far more experience wrestling on his own than Matt did. That, and his cardio was better. If it continued like this, it would only be a matter of time before they won.
Matt tried to whip Trent toward the ropes, but he reversed it and pulled him into a side headlock. He pivoted toward a corner and charged, running up the turnbuckle to hit a float-over DDT. He went for the pin—but Matt kicked out at two. Afterward, both men remained still on the mat, taking what chance they could to catch their breath. Alex eagerly stepped up onto the bottom rope and banged on the turnbuckle. She wanted in.
“Trent! Tag me in!”
She leaned into the ring, reaching as far as she could, and he looked over at her. But just as he pushed himself up onto his hands and knees, Matt hit him with a clubbing blow to the back. He grabbed him by the hair and jerked him into a chinlock. It wasn’t a move that Matt typically did. Alex knew it meant he was getting tired.
The crowd started clapping in rhythm for Trent, and Alex stomped her boot on the ring apron in time. Trent wrenched at Matt’s fingers, prying them away from his face. In response, Matt pulled him to his feet and swiftly maneuvered to hit a float-over DDT of his own. Alex bit down on her jaw as she watched him hook his leg. Trent got his shoulder up at two.
Alex stepped back up onto the ropes. She was tired of this. “Why don’t you tag in your partner, huh, Matt?” she taunted. “Worried she can’t beat me?”
Matt glared daggers at her as he climbed to his feet. “I don’t want to subject everyone to having to watch you wrestle,” he spat.
But Alex’s wit was just as quick. “Oh really? You look awfully lost without your little brother out here doing all the work.”
That needled him. She knew it would. But what she didn’t expect was his response.
“Please, you wouldn’t even have a contract if you weren’t on your knees for Kenny every night.”
For a second, Alex was stunned into silence. But then a white-hot rage bubbled up inside her. She ducked through the ropes and charged toward him.
“What’d you say to me?”
“You heard me.”
“Why don’t you say it again.”
“Get out of the ring, Alex!” Aubrey ordered.
“Matt!”
At Callie’s warning cry, Matt instinctively whirled around and dodged—and what happened next seemed to unfold in slow motion.
Trent flew toward Alex like a bullet. He crashed into her and knocked the wind from her lungs, sending her violently back into the turnbuckle. She felt a pop in her right shoulder, and then nothing but searing hot pain.
* * * * * * * * * *
When Trent realized what he’d done, he felt sick.
He hadn’t known Alex was in the ring. That DDT had left him dazed, and he’d been oblivious to his surroundings until he’d spotted Matt with his back turned to him. So he went for a spear. But Matt dodged at the last second. Trent had absolutely no chance to stop himself or correct course, and he rammed full speed into Alex.
He watched in stunned horror as she writhed against the turnbuckle. She clenched her right arm, her face screwed up in pain. She was hurt. He’d hurt her.
“Alex—”
Smack!
He was abruptly cut off by a superkick to the jaw. He crumpled to the mat. Matt dragged him by the ankle further into the ring and pinned him. The count sounded distant and faint.
One.
Two.
Three.
The bell rung. Trent felt Matt throw down his leg as the music started, ringing in his ears. He stared up into the lights, unblinking, while Matt’s arm was raised in victory. He’d hurt her. He’d hurt her and then lost the match.
“Alex,” he said again as he rolled over onto his hands and knees. She was still huddled against the turnbuckle, clutching her arm as Aubrey checked on her. He felt sick all over again.
“Alex.” He crawled over to her and put a hand on her knee. She looked up at him. Unshed tears shined in her eyes. It broke him. “I’m sorry.”
She shook her head. “It was an accident—”
“Alex!”
Suddenly, Kenny was in the ring. He practically pushed Trent out of the way as he knelt in front of Alex. “What’s wrong?” he asked her.
“I think it’s dislocated,” she winced.
Trent looked at her right shoulder. It hung visibly lower than her left. His heart dropped into his stomach.
“Let’s get you to Doc,” he said as he tried to move toward her again.
But Kenny blocked him. “I got it,” he bit. Trent didn’t have it in him to argue.
He watched as Kenny helped her to her feet and ushered her to the ropes; he held them open for her so she could gingerly duck through. As she stepped to the other side, Alex looked back. For a brief second their eyes met. But then Kenny put his arm around her, and she turned away and disappeared into the back.
* * * * * * * * * *
Callie couldn’t stay out there a second longer. She was horrified by what she’d witnessed. The way Matt had taken advantage of Trent’s awful mistake, how he hadn’t hesitated to kick him in the jaw—there’d been a viciousness in his eyes that she’d never seen before. And she didn’t want any part of it.
She stormed off before Aubrey could even raise his arm in victory, marching quickly up the ramp. Kenny nearly bowled her over on his way down to the ring, and she turned to watch as he ran to Alex’s aid. But then she saw Matt coming after her, and she turned back around and hurried through the entrance tunnel.
“Callie!”
She didn’t stop or even glance his way. She just kept walking.
“Callie! What the fuck?”
That got her stop and face him. “Me what the fuck? You what the fuck, Matt? What the fuck was that out there?”
If looks could kill, she was certain she would have been dead on the spot. “Are you serious?” he spat. “I won the match and you just ran off!”
Her eyes darkened. “Well, I didn’t want to be a part of it anyway, right?”
Matt bit down on his jaw. There was nothing he could say to that. She gave him one last glare and turned her back on him again, praying that was the end of it. She just wanted to leave. Alone.
“I want your shit out of my house by the weekend.”
Callie halted. His words were like a knife in the back. They hurt. And suddenly, she wanted him to hurt, too.
She turned around again, her head held high. “That’s fine, because I don’t want to move back to California anymore.”
She held his gaze in defiance. But Matt just laughed, cruel and low. “Let me guess, Orlando with Cash?”
She faltered. He knew about yesterday. But she steeled herself again. “No. I want to move to Orlando for me.”
He scoffed and rolled his eyes. “Okay.”
“That’s the truth!”
“Was all this just a rebound to you?”
If his previous words had been a knife to the back, those were a blow to the gut. Tears sprung to the back of Callie’s eyes. Her voice came out strained. Apologetic. “No. I care about you, Matt. So much that it scares me.”
He laughed again and looked away. “Coulda fooled me.”
She took a step toward him. “Matt—”
“Have fun in Orlando,” he cut her off, and that time it was him who stormed off and left her behind. Alone.

waiting for (another) girl like you | steve harrington x wheeler!reader
Tumblr media
summary: Steve didn’t plan on falling in love with his ex-girlfriend’s little sister, but shit happens.
warnings: angst, past trauma, self-doubt, mentions of death
word count: 2.3K
a/n: this fic was inspired by the ST1 scene where Steve and Nancy were in his bedroom bc waiting for a girl like you by foreigner is one of my favorite songs at the moment and it played during that scene. it might be a little dumb but i enjoyed writing it so enjoy! also the gif used isn’t mine, it’s from google :)
It wasn’t unusual for the Wheeler household to have family dinner on Sunday with the whole family and the kid’s boyfriends and girlfriends. Most of the time, the dining room was filled with happy chatter amongst everyone at the table. The table was still happy for the most part, but it was different for Steve and Y/N this time.
Steve wasn’t sure what was wrong, but Y/N had been dead silent since they started dinner. He felt like he had done something, but he wasn’t sure what it was. She could feel him glancing over to her every few minutes as she stared at her half-eaten food that she lost interest in. She knew he was confused but so was she.
“Y/N, are you alright? Aren’t you hungry, sweetie?” Karen asked from across the table, making everyone look in her direction.
“I’m—I’m fine! I’m really not hungry, that’s all.” she replied quickly, giving her mom a small smile even though she knew she could see right through it.
Her mom gave her a knowing look before turning back to Holly, who was tapping her shoulder frantically. Y/N couldn’t bring herself to look up at Steve, but she knew he was still looking down at her. She nearly winced when his hand reached for her thigh, giving her a comforting squeeze as he finally looked away. It was killing him that he didn’t know what was wrong, but he didn’t want to start something in the middle of a family dinner that could potentially end poorly.
The only thing on Y/N’s mind during dinner was Steve and Nancy, and the fact that she felt like a second pick to her sister in anything and everything. It was enough to make her appetite go away. She couldn’t look at him or her sister without feeling sick, her stomach tying itself into a tighter knot with every minute.
The rest of dinner felt like it took an eternity, and she only stared at her plate for the rest of the time. Steve tried to carry on a conversation with Jonathan while dinner finished up, but Y/N’s sad demeanor was distracting. She was the first to leave the dinner table, excusing herself without letting anyone know. She rushed up the stairs and into the bathroom she shared with Nancy, sliding her back down the wall to sit on the floor next to the toilet.
For the first time all night, she let out a quiet sob. Her thoughts made her dizzy and she felt like she couldn’t see straight, purely out of anger and spite. She knew she didn’t have much of a reason to be so upset, but the thoughts of Steve settling for her had been eating away at her mind for days.
A small knock on the door made her jump as she choked on another sob, her full attention going in that direction.
“Y—Yes?” she said, trying to make herself sound as put together as she could in the situation.
“Y/N, it’s me.” Steve said from the other side of the door, his ear on the door to hear her. “Can I come in?”
“No! Don’t!” she yelled, blocking the door handle quickly as she heard him sigh in frustration. “I—I think you should just go home, Steve. I don’t feel good right now.”
“You felt fine earlier, seriously, Y/N. What’s wrong?” he insisted, but got radio silence in reply. “Well, if you don’t want to tell me, I’ll just wait out here until you decide to let me in.”
“S—Steve, just go home, please.” she whimpered, leaning against the door as she spoke through it.
“I told you, I’m not going home! I’m not leaving you when you’re upset, even if you won’t tell me what I did wrong.” he said, settling down on the floor outside of the bathroom. “I’ll wait for you, even if it means I’m out here all night.”
In that moment, she hated how good of a boyfriend Steve actually was. She felt like she was punched in the gut when he suggested that he did something wrong but couldn’t figure out what it was because she knew he was eating himself alive about. She didn’t really know why she was even mad at him, but she couldn’t help it. Steve truly was wracking his brain for any small details of what he could’ve done wrong in the last day, but couldn’t think of anything. On one side of the door, Steve listened to his girlfriend struggling to hold back sniffles and small sobs. On the other side of the door, Y/N was listening to the words for Waiting for a Girl Like You replay in her mind.
Minutes turned into an hour as they sat on the floor, neither of them daring to acknowledge the person on the other side of the door. Jonathan and El were gone by this point and Mike was in the basement while Karen was trying to get Holly to bed finally. Nancy walked up the stairs to see Steve leaned against the bathroom door, a feeling of guilt running through them both.
“She won’t come out.” Steve sighed when Nancy gave him a sympathetic smile.
Nancy only shrugged when he looked in her direction, not wanting to upset the girl on the other side of the door who was listening intently. Steve ran his hand through his hair and leaned his head against the door as Nancy walked into her bedroom, listening for any sign of Y/N wanting to come out.
“Y/N, please. I just want to talk! We can talk, right?” he pleaded.
“We can talk right here.” she said bluntly as she stared at the wall in front of her, not wanting him to see her tear-stained cheeks and red eyes.
“No, please, baby.” he begged, reaching up for the door handle but stopping himself from trying to open it. “I want to see you, I can’t understand what’s going on unless I can talk to you face-to-face.”
The other side of the door was silent for a moment while Y/N thought about what to do next. She knew how stubborn Steve was, and she knew he wasn’t giving up any time soon. It was useless for her to tell him to leave again, even though she was afraid to tell him how she really was feeling. But, she pushed past her doubts and opened the door, curling up into herself as she did to hide her face.
“I can talk to you face-to-face if you won’t look at me.” Steve joked, nudging her arm softly. “Please look at me. What’s going on?”
“It’s stupid.” she mumbled. “It’s just a bunch of bullshit.”
“W—What?” Steve stammered, taken aback by the word bullshit being muttered to him by another Wheeler sibling.
“This! It’s stupid! Pretending like I don’t think about you dating Nancy? Pretending like I believe that you love me? Pretending like everything’s okay?” she said, finally looking up at him as she threw her arms in defeat. “Do I look like everything’s okay?”
“No—No, you don’t. But I—“
“Are you over Nancy?” she asked abruptly, watching him cautiously.
“Of course I am!” he said immediately, making her sigh in relief that he didn’t take a second thought.
“Do you still love her?” she questioned, the words harder to force from her throat this time.
“No. No. I don’t.” Steve said desperately while staring at her as she stared blankly at the wall in front of her, emotionless. “I love you.”
“Today when we were on the way to my house for dinner, that—that Foreigner song that I love was playing, Waiting for a Girl Like You. I was trying to remember who showed me the song, but I just—I just couldn’t remember for the life of me. But then, you turned the radio station and I saw the look on your face. You looked sad, like someone had just killed a puppy in front of you.” she began, not daring to look at him as she spoke. “That’s when it clicked, Nance showed me that song two years ago. She played it every damn day after things were good again.”
“Y/N, I don’t—“ Steve started, but she held her hand up to cut him off.
“I want to finish, Steve.” she sighed and he nodded quickly, recoiling against the wall. “That was the song you played for her when you guys—you know—did whatever on that night she snuck over with Barb. She was so in love with that song because it was so special for you guys, she told me that she’d never stop listening to it. But—But she did stop. And when she did was when she realized she fell out of love with you. But you—you never fell out of love like she did. You loved her until the end and—and you hate that song because you think that maybe there’s a possibility that you still love her, not me. I was just the closest thing you could get to her.”
Steve couldn’t help but laugh under his breath as he shook his head. As much as he wanted to deny it, she wasn’t completely wrong. He didn’t realize that he had continued laughing until he looked up to see the broken expression on his girlfriend’s face.
“Why are you even laughing right now?” she asked, shaking her head as she watched the small smile fall from his face.
“Because—I don’t know, honestly. Maybe because you’re halfway right?” he said, not knowing the answer to his own question. “But, not about still being in love with Nancy, of course. I don’t love her and I haven’t for a while now. I do hate that song, though. But it’s because it reminds me of the last time that my life was good.”
The words bit into her heart like a goddamn demogorgon, hungry to hurt her in any way possible. Steve didn’t mean it in the way that she took it, though. She could tell he didn’t by the look on his face, so she stayed quiet while he paused to take a hitched breath.
“It was that night that I thought my life was on the up and up, but it really wasn’t. It went to shit after that day. We—we killed Barb—“
“You didn’t kill her—“
“Yeah, we didn’t kill her. But we let that thing, that monster, take her because I was stupid and didn’t think of anybody but myself because I was an asshole. Then everything went downhill and my girlfriend fell out of love with me, I didn’t even notice but you know why?” he asked bitterly and she shook her head. “Because I was still holding onto what I thought I had with her. But I was really just holding onto that god-forsaken night, the last night when everything my life alright. And I’d listen to that song too, even after the end I did. When I stopped listening to it was when I realized I had found better things, when I found you.”
“You’re just saying that to make me feel better.” she seethed, clenching her jaw to hold herself together.
“But I’m not! Once Nancy broke things off, I—I believed that nothing would ever go right for me. Everyone thought everything was fine, right? Because I had to put on a show for the sake of my family.” he confessed.
His voice finally showing signs of pain as he spoke this time, but he didn’t want to hold back. He was rambling at this point, but it was comforting for both of them in some odd way. His sanity was hanging on by a thread that unraveled just a little more with every tear she let slip, but they were slowing down now.
“I acted like things were okay and held onto that damn night like my life depended on it. Because after that night, I became the best damn actor, I became the best stupid, happy teen boy that Hawkins had ever seen; I even believed the act I was putting on.” he sighed, leaning his head against the wall to stare at the ceiling.
“You were looking for a distraction from your acting and I was convenient.” she replied quietly. “The naïve little sister of your ex who wouldn’t take a second glance at the bigger picture of how stupid it all was, right?”
“No—No. You weren’t convenient at all, really.” he laughed, reaching to graze his fingertips across her knuckles. “It wasn’t easy when everyone was telling me it wasn’t worth it, that it’d be too weird to try to even talk to you, that you probably didn’t want me like I wanted you. But I didn’t listen because I saw that look in your eyes when you smiled at me, you looked happy and—and like you wanted to be with me; I ignored everyone because I knew it was worth it. So no, you weren’t convenient. You were far from it, you kinda still are. I think you’re worth it.”
She still stared at the wall in front of her as she let his words process in her mind, the feeling of his fingers against her knuckles soothing her. He watched as she tore herself apart inside, trying to find her own answers.
“You know you’re not my second choice, right?” he interjected, making her eyes flicker in his direction as he squeezed her hand. “If Nancy wanted me back, I wouldn’t care. I know she came first, but that doesn’t mean shit. I didn’t realize that you were right in front of me and that you’d bring so much happiness to my life.”
“You’re so cheesy.” she scoffed as her heart fluttered when he smiled in her direction.
“It’s true! I swear, it really is, Y/N. I love you.” he said as he moved towards her, taking her head in his hands to look into her eyes.
“I love you too, Steve.” she said softly, smiling at him for the first time all night as she leaned over to kiss him softly.

Tumblr media
Steve wasn’t used to second chances. His parents gave up on him the first time he snuck out to try cigarettes with Tommy; his teachers gave up on him at the first signs of difficulty; his other girlfriends gave up on him the first time he let down his cool exterior. Because, really, Steve was a kid. As much as he felt like a grown up, he wasn’t. He was a kid who handled his life poorly, and if it wasn’t for Nancy Wheeler, he never would have handled it well.
So when Nancy gave him a second chance, a month after… Everything, he was quick to jump on it and be on his very best behavior. Jonathan Byers’ fist knocked some sense into him, too, and that’s precisely why Steve went to the store and bought the best camera that the salesman had. He owed them both his life - like, literally, and they probably owed him theirs, but he wouldn’t take it. He just wanted them happy and safe and peaceful for Christmas.
“Steve.” Nancy looked bewildered when Steve showed her the camera, unwrapped, as he didn’t really know how to wrap anything. “He’ll love it.” Her hand touched his and it was warm, and Steve swore he felt the heat creep up his entire arm. He never wanted her to let go. Not again.
“‘s whatever,” he said, a bit bashfully, but his smile was growing. “I owe him at least this much.”
“You’re sweet,” Nancy said, leaning forward and kissing his cheek softly, and Steve melted into her eagerly. He didn’t think he really deserved to be called sweet, not yet, but he still takes her hand and squeezes it.
“Help me wrap it?” he asked.
“You don’t know how?”
“I can’t be good at everything,” he teased, and she hit his chest gently with her free hand before standing.
“I’ll be right back.” Nancy knew she had to promise this. She could see that fear and apprehension and remorse in his eyes every time she went to step away, like she wouldn’t be back.
And she almost wasn’t.
Steve pressed a kiss to her palm before letting her run downstairs to grab the paper. When her frame left the doorway, he let his eyes roam around her room, something he’d done before, but not since Everything. He sees pictures of Nance when she was younger, in a ballerina costume. On a school field trip to the zoo. Pictures of Ted holding her when she was just as big as Holly was then. Her and Mike dressed up like - well, Steve doesn’t know what they’re dressed up as, but they’re having fun.
And then he sees the pictures of Barb and Nance. How happy they were. Their faces smushed together in a photobooth, at each other’s birthday parties - the room was littered with Barb and little reminders of her. Steve checked on Nancy every chance he had, even in that month where they’d only stolen looks at each other. He said he was sorry probably a dozen times, each more tearful than the last, because what Nancy didn’t understand was that Steve couldn’t even look at his pool without feeling like he was going to vomit. He couldn’t lay in his bed at night and sleep. He thought about Barb, about how she cut her hand when they tried to make her do something stupid, about how scared and alone and sad she must have been. How he stole Nancy from her.
Barb Holland probably hated him more in death than she did in life.
It wasn’t supposed to be a competition, Steve promised her. He had a lot of talks with her at night. I just didn’t want to share the glory that is Nancy Wheeler. I’m sure you understand.
“Found some.” Nancy’s voice broke Steve from his melancholy staring, and he quickly blinked some tears out of his eyes. She sat at her desk with the camera and Steve watched her wrap the box, watched her little fingers fold and tape the paper. “He’ll be here to pick up Will later.”
Steve cleared his throat. “Will you give it to him?”
Nancy looked at him with furrowed brows. “Me?”
“I just….” Steve paused. “I don’t want him to think he… like, owes me something. Or that I’m trying to buy his forgiveness.”
“He won’t,” Nancy promised, but Steve shook his head.
“Please? Just say it’s from you.”
Nancy frowned and stood, walking to Steve at the end of her bed. She cupped his face and kissed his lips, softly, before pulling back. Steve smirked, gently grabbing her wrists in his hands. “Guess I should be selfless more often, huh?”
“You are selfless,” Nancy said, staring into his eyes. Steve loved it when Nancy looked at him like that. “And you’re brave.”
But Steve didn’t feel like it.
===
To be honest, Steve never had a great Christmas. Sometimes his cousins and extended family would stop by for Christmas, and that could be fun. But his aunts and uncles didn’t like their kids hanging out with Steve, because he was a “bad influence,” which just meant sometimes Steve would get too carried away during snowball fights and, yeah, he hit Brent in the face with one but it’s not like he lost an eye or anything. Christmas with his mom and dad was impersonal. He would get new things that he didn’t really like - as in, ten new polos and five new khakis, all from expensive retailers - and he would thank them before going up to his room until dinner. Christmas dinner was the worst - it was silent save for forks scraping and mouths chewing, and Steve was pretty sure that when he goes to hell he will be perpetually sitting at the dinner table on December 25th.
But Christmas with Nancy was different.
It wasn’t that Steve didn’t like talking to Ted about sports, or telling Karen about his mom’s new business ventures, or acting like an asshole to Mike just to get a ruse from him, or playing with Holly. He loved it. But that wasn’t the bestpart. The best part was that Nancy, in her pretty yellow sweater, was glued to his side, and was smiling, and was squeezing his hand, and was rolling her eyes and laughing at him. It wasn’t even that much, but it was the closest to an actual Christmas that Steve had ever had. Closest to Christmas that Steve had ever felt. He could even stand Ted’s after-dinner snoring as he held Nancy on the couch, absent-mindedly watching a movie. He was more concerned with her warm body pressed against his.
A month was a long time without Nancy Wheeler.
The front door opened. Karen cried out, “Jonathan!”, and Steve looked to Nancy anxiously. As Jonathan slipped downstairs, Nancy snuck up to her room, leaving Steve alone with a snoring Ted.
Steve was used to being alone, now. Or, well, he should have been. A month without talking to Carol and Tommy was like a well-needed detox without the withdrawals. Still, he missed them - but only sometimes. The thoughts were usually quickly stifled when Steve remembers how Tommy made him pay for a can of coke and some Advil after getting his shit rocked. Some friends. And while Nancy was (thankfully) back in his life, he still felt alone sometimes. Which scared him. He hadn’t felt this alone in a long time, always forcing himself to socialize to avoid being in an empty and cold house. Nancy meant more to him then he knew - not only was he thankful to have her back and be given another chance, but she also got him out of that house.
Nancy, Jonathan, and Will met at the bottom of the steps. Steve couldn’t really see, but he could kind of hear the exchange. His heart hammered in his chest - what if he didn’t like it? What if it was a shitty camera? What if Jonathan finds out he was the one that got it for him? But Nancy came back with an absent-minded grin and Steve smiled wide, relief flowing through him just at the sight of her. She sat beside him and he wrapped an arm around her, pulling her in close. He looked down at her in pure adoration - Nancy Wheeler was the most beautiful, intelligent, thoughtful, and badass person he’d ever met, and she was, somehow, his.
“Did you give it to him?”
Nancy looked up at him and nodded, still smiling a bit. “Yeah.”
Steve rubbed her arm and looked up at the television, suddenly overwhelmed with something. Something good and all consuming and wholesome. He hadn’t felt this good… ever. It was like something was set free in his chest, something that had never quite yet been released before. He looked back down at Nancy, her eyes focused on the television, her body pressed up against his.
He wants to say it. I love you. It’s on the tip of his tongue.
Instead, he presses a kiss to her hair. “Merry Christmas.”
Nancy looked up at him and smiled softly. “Merry Christmas.”
Beside them, Ted snored.

Friday Nights
pairings: steve harrington x reader
genre/warnings: friends to lovers. idiots in love. some curse words?
word count: 2k
summary: every friday night Y/N helps steve get ready for his dates. what are you talking about of course she’s not jealous
notes: just a small cute fic for my man steve
Tumblr media
You watch amused as Steve fidgets with his clothes, his hair, everything. He keeps his gaze fixed on the reflection in the big mirror in the hall, and you can help but wonder how many days could he go without looking at himself. Maybe you should turn that into a bet.   “Can I ask, once more, why am I here?” you let your head hit the pillow, dropping yourself unceremoniously on his bed and grabbing an old magazine from his nightstand. He turns to you and scoffs when he notices you’re not paying him attention.   “Because,” he sprays some more Farrah Fawcett around, making you cough, “you’re supposed to be helping me get ready for my date with Allison.”   “I still can’t believe you’re going out with Allison Daniels. She 's so boring.”   “She’s not boring. She’s nice,” he complains, the bed dipping down when he sits next to you. He starts putting on his sneakers, the nice ones.   “I’m not saying she’s not nice. But last time I tried talking to her in Math it was like speaking with a piece of wet cardboard.I asked her what kind of music she liked and she said she doesn’t like music. Like, in general. She only listens to the radio because of the weather. The weather, Steve.”
“Whatever. At least I have plans. What are you gonna do on this lovely Friday evening, huh?” he finishes tying up his shoes and gives you a pointed look.   “I’m, huh. I’m hanging out with the kids.” You lied. Well, he kinda had a point but he didn’t need to know that. Steve gets cocky when he knows he’s right. Because it never happens.   “Liar.” Oh, no. Busted. “I know that’s not true because Henderson told me they're busy with some nerdy science project tonight.”   “Yeah, I’m helping them.”   “Y/N, you don’t know jack shit about science.”   You grunt, covering your face with the magazine. “Ugh, fine. I’m staying in, okay?”   You wish you could punch that stupid smile off his face. He stands up, doing a ridiculous little twirl like he’s in the middle of a fashion show and poses with his hands on his hips.   “How do I look?” he asks you, flashing a smile and popping up the collar of his denim jacket.   Good, you want to say. Oh, so good.   Forget-about-your-date-and-take-me-right-here-on-your-bed good.   “You look like shit.”   He lets his hands fall at his sides and glares at you. You laugh, wondering if you should end his misery.   “You look great, Harrington. She won’t know what hit her.” You put the magazine down and start putting on your jacket. You know this routine like the back of your hand, because it’s been going on for a couple of months now.   First, Steve calls you saying he needs your help getting ready. He doesn't. Usually you just lay on his bed shit talking whoever it is he has decided to take to the movies or to a diner or whatever his plans are for the night. Meanwhile, he gets his hair puffed and tries to argue with you. He asks you how he looks. You tell him he’s good.   And now, he’s gonna offer to drive you home, because hey, he has to pick up Allison or Megan or whoever anyway, and it’s not like it’s out of his way. And then you’re going to say no, thank you. And walk home. By yourself.   “Hey, you want me to drop you off? It’s on the way.” So predictable, dear Steve. You shake your head.   “I’m good, thanks. It’s a short walk.” You’re not lying. You only live a couple of blocks away. And usually walking by yourself helps you get rid of all the thoughts that plague your mind every friday night after leaving his house.   Listen, it’s not like you were jealous. You’re not Steve’s girlfriend. You’re just, well, his girl-friend. And it’s not like anything will ever happen between the two of you. He sees you as one of the gang, one of the kids even, despite being the same age as him. Steve is protective and he has a big hero complex, you know that. After everything that happened at Starcourt, and that other time with the demodogs, there’s no way he’ll see you as anything else than just someone he has to protect. You must admit though, that you have kicked your fair amount of butt, so you think you can defend yourself, thank you very much.     You wave at Steve as he gets in his car and watch as he drives away, to Allison’s house. You start walking home, turning on your walkman and placing your headphones in your ears. When his hair and his laugh and his face, his stupid face, don’t leave your mind, you have to concede to yourself that, hey, maybe you are a little bit jealous. You often find yourself imagining what it would be like if, just once, you were the girl Steve’s getting ready for, the girl he picks up on his shiny car, the one he takes to the movies.   But you’re not the kind of girl Steve is looking for. You’re just his friend. In front of you, he can be gross and stupid. And you can be the same in front of him. Why would he want to date you when he’s seen you put chopsticks up your nose? You’ve seen the girls he takes on dates. They all look like something the printer would spit out if you were trying to clone Nancy Wheeler and it ran out of ink.   You got home, noticing your dad’s car gone from the driveway. Your parents must have gone out for dinner. They left you a twenty on the counter for some pizza underneath a note with a smiley face.   “Dirty Dancing it is.” ****   Across town, in what's basically Hawkins only slightly fancy restaurant (in reality, an old italian place with shitty lighting and very uncomfortable chairs), Steve is trying his best not to fall asleep. Allison has been going on and on about something for the last twenty minutes, but his mind is elsewhere.
"So I ended up buying the same shirt in three different colors." God, she really is boring. He should have listened to Y/N. Y/N is somehow always right about the girls he dates. It would piss him off, but honestly it's a bit impressive.
"Huh. Smart." He spots Y/N's parents a couple of tables over and waves back at them with a smile. At least someone in this god forsaken restaurant looks like they're having fun. Steve perks up a little and nods at whatever Allison is saying. How is it every word that comes out of her mouth just sounds beige?
"This pasta is really good. I'm glad I could order it with no sauce, it upsets my stomach, you know?"
Wait a minute. If Y/N's parents are here, then that means she's spending friday night by herself. Again. Locked inside, watching some movie. Probably Dirty Dancing. He rolls his eyes at the thought.
"Have you seen any good movies lately?" he asks, in a last desperate attempt to salvage the wreckage that is this date.
"Hm, I don't really watch movies. I did see a commercial while I was waiting in line at the farmacy the other day. I guess it was funny."
Oh. My. God. Steve just wants to hit his head against the table. Curse the moment he decided to do this. Oh, how he wishes he was just hanging out with Y/N and the kids now. Or maybe just Y/N, if the little shits are too busy with school. He can't wait until he gets home so he can call her and tell her everything about this new disaster, just like every friday night. Of course he can already hear her smug "I told you so" in his head, and he knows he has a full week of jokes at his expense waiting for him.
Maybe if the date doesn't drag on for too long he can stop by Y/N's house with some ice cream or some snacks. Give her parents some more alone time. They don't mind him staying over, really. Y/N 's parents adore Steve. That's part of why he loves spending time at her place.
"Hmm, Steve?" he suddenly snaps back to reality and stares back blankly to Allison, who doesn't look too happy, "Are you okay? You're very quiet."
"Uh, yeah, yeah. Sorry, you were saying?"
"Listen, I don't think this is going to work out," she says, standing up. He blinks up at her, dumbfounded.
"It's just that...you're a little bit boring. Sorry. Thanks for dinner, though. And the ride. Don't worry, I'll just get a cab home." With that, she places the napkin back on the table, grabs her purse and her jacket and leaves. Steve  just sits in silence, confused.
Oh, Y/N's definitely going to laugh at him so much after this.
Something suddenly clicks in his brain. Y/N. Oh Lord, he's so stupid. How could he be so stupid?
He throws some money on the table, waves at Y/N's parents and practically bolts out of the door and into his car.
***
The doorbell rings one, two, three times. Gee, when did the pizza delivery boy get so insistent?
You open the door to find a very upset looking Steve Harrington. And by upset, you mean angry.
"Steve, what the hell are you doing here? What happened to your date?" you ask, moving out of the way when he comes inside and drops his car keys on the side table with a loud bang.
  "You ruined it."
"Excuse me?" you furrow your brows, confused.
"You heard me. You ruined my date," he waves his hands through his hair nervously a couple of times, all messy and sticking out, long gone the perfectly curated Fawcett hairdo.
"How exactly did I ruin your date all the way from my couch, Harrington?" you ask, getting angry yourself. This is definitely the last thing you needed tonight.
"I didn't listen to a thing Allison said."
"That's hardly my fault, she has the charm of an expired vinegar bottle."
"I didn't listen to a thing she said because I was thinking about you! I was too distracted thinking about you, and your stupid laugh, and your...your…" he freaks out, pointing at the tv, "your stupid movies. I knew you'd be watching Dirty Dancing! Why do you like that movie so damn much!?"
"I'm sorry, did you come all the way here to insult Patrick Swayze to my face?"
"And then she walked out on me. She walked out on me, Y/N."
"Woah, bruised your ego a bit?"
  "I'm not joking around, Y/N!"
You blink and raise your hands in surrender. Gee, someone's touchy.
"I just don't know why you're here, Steve."
"Don't you get it, Y/N? It's you. It was always you." He takes a few steps forward, dangerously close now. Your breath hitches a little bit, and your mouth refuses to speak. "I am so stupid. I can't believe I didn't realize it until now. Every night I was out there, the only thing I could think of was going back home, picking up the phone and calling you to tell you all about it. You get me, Y/N. And I get you. And I understand if you don't feel the same way but I think we make sense, this makes sense. Of course it's you, and your  dumb jokes and that laugh of yours that breaks me every time I hear it."
You're nearly touching now, and all it would take is one more movement. One more step and then-
"Steve." He closes his eyes, anticipating the worst. He doesn't know. Of course he doesn't know. "You really are stupid. I've been in love with you ever since we met."
His eyes open in surprise, shocked but delighted, and they close again when you crash your lips against his and he melts into the kiss. You grab him by his t-shirt and pull him down, your heart beating faster and faster.
When you finally pull away, you're both out of breath and smiling like idiots. You punch him in the shoulder and laugh.  "So, Harrington, where are you taking me next friday night?"
