DAYCARE ATTENDANT IN HELP WANTED 2
FUCK YESSSS!! I REALLY THOUGHT RUIN WOULD BE SUN AND MOON'S LAST MAJOR APPEARANCE BUT NO!! NEW TRAILER IS OUT AND ITS TIME TO ANALYSE!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WE FINALLY GET TO DO ARTS AND CRAFTS WITH SUN!! This seems to be a puzzle mini game where you make Paper Pals!! I'm guessing, if you mess up the Paper Pal, you get jumpscared (probably by Moon) or it could be a time trail. It does seem weirdly DARK in the clip for Sun to still be here, but maybe that was intentional? Or not.
(those red doors seem to have lightbulbs on them, maybe there's a mechanic where we need to stop the lights from going out?)
Edit: I have even more evidence to suggest that the lights will be a feature in this minigame! In the one clip, if you slow it down, you can see the lights flicker and the screen you are using switch off!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I bet this is the electricity going out, and if that happens, Moon will jumpscare you! A lot of HW minigames have a "do this task but also stop this thing from happening so you don't get jumpscared" like the mangle vent repairs, so this makes sense!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
NEXT UP WE GOT THE CAROUSEL MINIGAME! Not much to say about this one, since Dawko already uploaded him playing it, but this is significantly higher quality! Moons animation is different, and more things could change from the Dawko version considering the fact that it was only a playtest and wasn't finished yet. I'm very excited to play it!
(I hope they upload the carnival music in better quality if they release the soundtrack for the game. that shit SLAPS)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok so this is a weird one. We seem to be training the endo (who has a VR HEADSET on) with a moon-themed memory card game. At first, I thought this would be in the daycare because of the background, but in another clip, we see the camera pan over and we are actually in the daycare-themed room in the endo section all the way back in security breach!
Moon has always had a weird unexplained connection to the endos. Broken endo parts in his room, Moon merch and Daycare structures in the endo basement thing, and even evidence of a scrapped area of the endo section that Moon was supposed to appear in. (There was an unused soundtrack and unused animations, check out the Lost Bits YouTube video on SB for more info)
I'm excited to see if they will explain more as to why these connections are here. Is Vanny using Moon to train the endos to do her bidding? I dunno, but I'll be waiting to find out.
Tumblr media
Last image i could find is this. It sure is a sun, dunno if its actually connected to Daycare Attendant Sun or not. The way this shot is framed makes it look like a dark ride?? That, or the player character has the weakest flashlight imaginable.
But if this IS Daycare Attendant related, then it'll most-likely be the intro for the Paper Pals minigame! Still, UNREASONABLY dark if this is a sun-centric minigame, there's no way the dark won't be part of the gameplay mechanic in this.
If anyone recognises this specific structure from anywhere in the pizzaplex please tell me!!
Edit: There's also this weird glitch-transition effect when it cuts to DJ Music Man, what's that about? Reminds me of the BB World Arcade Game a little bit.
Tumblr media
Ending thoughts:
So before we get too excited, let's not forget about Help Wanted 1. The minigames were just that, MINIGAMES. They weren't even canon, and depending where this game takes place in the timeline, I don't think these are either.
I mean, these are DCA normal models! Where we left him in the story they were:
In their RUINED models.
And 2. Eclipse! And therefore non-hostile.
And even if this takes place BEFORE Ruin, how on Earth would Moon be at a CAROUSEL? In Help Wanted 1, the game was made-up by Fazbear Entertainment to make light of the rumours going around about Freddys, although they were based on real events, the Glamrocks aren't ACTUALLY in the Sister Location basements. I'm not saying there's NO truth to the minigames, but we shouldn't accept everything they tell us at face value.
BUT that doesn't mean we won't get ANY Daycare Attendant lore crumbs. Firstly, we may possibly get voicelines in the minigames, if they don't decide to just reuse old ones.
Secondly, it's possible this game will have something similar to the Help Wanted 1 Tapes. Secrets outside of the minigames that tell us more about the canon lore! Bonnie, The Glamrocks, DCA, and other loose ends from SB may be mentioned through these secrets!
Thirdly, what I just said may be made more likely if the "we play as Cassies dad" theory is true. If Cassie takes after her dad in having sympathy for the animatronics (which I think she does) then he will probably have something to say about all the stuff Fazbear Entertainment has done to the animatronics. Especially since he WORKS there.
EITHER WAY I AM SO INSANELY EXCITED!! Unfortunately, it comes out on December 14th and I won't be able to play it till Christmas so TAG YOUR SPOILERS EVERYONE!!!

The Gilded Age Will Get a Lot More Operatic in Season 2
Full article copied below:
BY RICHARD LAWSON AUGUST 23, 2023
Tumblr media
The second season of HBO’s The Gilded Age (premiering October 29) will amp up the stakes, along with the lavish production design. As we see in these first-look images and a new trailer, debuting exclusively on VF.com, the late-19th-century swells of the Upper East Side are back at it in extravagant fashion—while their maids and cooks and butlers scurry about the mansion basements attending to their own complicated intrigues.
youtube
“The whole thread of [season two] is wrapped around this story of dueling opera houses,” says executive producer David Crockett. Those houses are the Academy of Music, long the cultural destination of Manhattan’s most monied families, and the upstart Metropolitan Opera. (We, of course, know who won in the end.) “The opening nights of the 1883 season—and the first ever opening night of the Met—fell on the same night,” says Crockett. “So you have this very clear choice for all of New York society: Are you going to go the old money route, or the new money route? It’s a great engine for a classic clash.”
Tumblr media
Bertha Russell, the new-money industrialist’s wife played with flint and mettle by Carrie Coon, lays it plain in an early episode of season two: “The opera is where society puts itself on display, where the elite meet each other and their children court each other and where the wheels of society turn.” And so we will watch those wheels turn, and wrench. As dramatized by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, The Gilded Age gives viewers the vicarious delight of swanning around opulent estates and fabulous Newport parties—as well as perhaps the slight queasiness of guilt. After all, should we really be fawning over such blithe plutocrats?
Tumblr media
Executive producer Michael Engler, who also directs many episodes of the series, says that moral shading is a deliberate part of TheGilded Age picture, perhaps even more so in season two. “They have moral choices,” Engler says of the show’s many rich folks. “As you watch them make [those choices], that’s how you determine their moral character and value. It’s not, We love the rich and we love watching them, so we don’t really care how they act. You see what it takes and what it costs people to behave a certain way.” Season two will also expand on the first season’s glimpse of Black society in Brooklyn, the home turf of Denée Benton’s Peggy Scott, who works for a white family—among them the imperious and very old money Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) and her spinster sister, Ada (Cynthia Nixon)—while negotiating political and social matters across the river. Ada, meanwhile, may finally be getting a love interest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Benton, Baranski, and Nixon are but three of the many New York stage luminaries who make up the cast of The Gilded Age. That the show is essentially a who’s who of Broadway stars wasn’t exactly by design; it was more an unexpected, and quite happy, development, says Engler. He remembers famed New York casting director Bernard Telsey telling him that a variety of notable names were eager to be a part of the project. “It was amazing. It was like, Really? She would play a recurring character on our show?”  Those actors are natural interpreters of The Gilded Age’s tone and temperament. “Our theater people are so trained to do this kind of material—great language, complex period character work—that they just never get to do on film,” says Engler. “Even Christine Baranski. She said, ‘I’ve done period plays my whole life, but I’ve never acted in a period thing on film.’ She was just so excited about doing that. It became clear that those were the people best suited to it, and we got particularly lucky.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With its intricate environments—careful mixes of practical sets, real locations, and digital effects—and a sprawling cast of ornately costumed characters, The Gilded Age season two promises to deliver on the period grandeur so beloved by fans. “It’s much bigger than Downton,” says Engler, a veteran of that show. How could it not be, as The Gilded Age considers a whole city, teeming with stories, burgeoning along? It’s fitting, then, that so much of season two will center on something as sweeping—and expensive—as the opera. The curtain can’t raise soon enough.

Trigger warnings: wishing a parents death, a lot of cursing, blood, hospitals, someone almost dying
Word count: 1.9K
Pairing : Hopper!Reader x Eddie Munson
One in which Eddie doesn’t die, just gets majorly injured.
“Why can’t you just accept him?!” I yell at  my dad as tears fall from “He hasn’t done anything bad, he only has different taste in music and clothing. He is a lovely guy and if you gave him an opportunity you would also see it!” I continue to yell.
“ I can’t accept that drug dealing punk dating my daughter, I’m sorry but I don’t want him in my house anymore. That’s all I will say about it” he says in a stern tone.
“UGH! I fucking hate you, I hope you die!” I scream, shutting the door of my room.
It has now been eight months since his death, El, my adoptive sister we could say, has moved to California with the Byers while I stayed here in Hawkins.
After all the upside down shit that has been going on for the last years and Billy’s death the whole gang thought that all of this was over. But recently some weird deaths have been happening and the Hawkins police have framed my boyfriend Eddie as this satanic cult leader that has been sacrificing teenagers for some kind of ritual. We also discovered who is behind all of this, Henry Creel, a boy with telekinetic powers, just like El but with psychotic behavior and with some desire to kill traumatized kids.
So now while Lucas, Erica and Max are at this psyco’s house, while Nancy, Robin, Steve, Dustin, Eddie and I are back in the Upside down. While the girls and Steve are going to try to kill that motherfucker, Dustin Eddie and I are trying to make a distraction for the demobats.
Eddie is playing “Master of Puppets" by Metallica while the youngest boy and I are waiting for them to come. Everything goes on so fast and  Eddie looks so hot as he plays his heart out for this occasion. The demobats are coming, Dustin counting down the seconds for them to hit us.
“Ten  seconds Eddie!” I scream. Their fluddering sounds more intense as they come closer. The three of us enter the trailer, Eddie almost not making it. “Holy mother of Jesus Christ. These motherfuckers are trying to get in, Eddie, are there any places they could?” I question my boyfriend. Before he can say anything one of them breaks in through the ventilation hole. Panic fills our bodies as more of those monsters hit the windows and every surface possible, Dustin and Eddie are trying kill the demobat with the spares the created while I go to his room where a huge air vent is located, but i'm too late as a swamp of these weird bats come through. I scream as loud as I can, the bats are flying in circles in the small room, the door opens and Eddie gets inside without thinking twice, Dustin waits in front of the door to close it when we come out.
“Okay we need to go! NOW! Dustin you go first” he starts to climb the bed sheets made ladder that connects the upside down with our real world. I go after him and when I’m on the other side, waiting for Eddie, he just doesn’t go up. “ Eddie, come on!” we both scream, fearing that some crazy idea has come into his mind. He looks up at us with those big brown eyes of his and one of those kinds of stares full of sadness, he quickly looks away cutting the bed sheets, eliminating the only way he could get out.
“ I love you guys” he says before disappearing.
“Nonononononono” i start mumbling. “Fuck this shit, I’m going back there. Dustin'' I grab his face with two of my hands. “ I need you to rebuild another ladder okay” he is paralized “Okay?!?!” he comes back to his senses after some seconds. He nods and starts to look for some blankets, bed sheets etc. While I try to make a small stand with chairs where I can jump to the ceiling, grab something to pull myself up down that shithole.
It takes me a couple of minutes to grasp one side of the ceiling that is not slippery. When I finally manage to get to the other side, I fall badly hurting one of my legs but with all the adrenaline running inside me I can’t barely feel anything.
The sound of the demobats is further than before not sounding as loud. When the door opens I can hear his screams, pain filled screams. I run as fast as my injured leg allows, when I see him lying on the ground with lots of those demon bats attacking him.
“Eddie!” I start running, when I arrive where he is at, I throw myself on top of him acting as a shield between those god-awful bats and him. Their sharp teeth drilling my skin, each time they bite me their teeth deeping the wounds. I really start to feel this is the ending for both of us, how romantic right? The two lovers, the one who sacrifices themselves while the other protects them until death. My mind is already thinking about all the things that could  happen when out of the sudden the bats fall to the ground seemingly dead.
“Eddie, are you okay?” He looks at me with a bloody smile. “ I’m going to get you out of here okay?” I cry, trying to wipe my tears out. I try move him, but he is to heavy for me to move. “Shit shit shit” I panic.
“Hey, (Y/N)” he says grabbing my hand, his blood now on my face“I need- i need you to do me a fav-favour” he mumbles, I nod my eyes full of tears. “ I need you to take care of all of them, okay? Specially Dustin'' he begs as tears fall down his face “ I will- I will always love you (Y/N)”
“Don’t fucking come with the “I’m dying” mologe because you are making it out of this shit hole okay?” I say between cries. “Steveee! Robbiiinn! Nancyyy!” I scream from the top of my lungs.
“(Y/N)?!?!” a female voice asks not far from where we are. “
“Eddie, don't close your eyes, okay baby? Stay with me. Explain to me what are your plans for the next quest. Jesus fucking Christ where are they” I look aroud nervously as Eddie tries to explain me his next D&D game, his voice is quiet, I can barely beraly hear him. Between the trees three figures appear. “ROBIN PLEASE HELP ME!” I beg. The three teenagers come running.
“(Y/N) your back-“ starts Nancy but I cut her off
“Im fine, okay, we need to take him to the hospital. I don't care if Vecna is dead. If he doesn’t make it I will physically die, I’m not even joking” They all help me take him back to the van, his gaze is lost in the blue/red sky of the Upside down, I’m losing him I can feel it.
Taking him back to our world is difficult but we eventually make it, the first to go after him are Steve , to start the car, and Robin to help Dustin take him to the car. When I make it to the other side I run towards the car as fast as my injured leg allows me. Steve and Eddie are already inside the car, I go to the backseats where my boy is laying down, I put his head on my lap and my hand locks with his.
“You are going to be okay. You are going to make it” I try to wipe his tears. “ Steve I don’t care how many laws you break, if we are not there in less than fifteen minutes he is going to die” he drives as fast as his car allows. “ Eddie, can you hear me?” he nods. The drive is short but it feels like it took us centuries to get there. Steve helps me take Eddie out of the car. When we enter, none of the doctors or nurses want to take him in, and at that moment is when something on my brain just snaps.
“IF IN TEN SECONDS I DON’T HAVE A NURSE AND A FUCKING DOCTOR TAKING CARE OF HIM AND SAVING HIS LIFE, I WILL PERSONALLY GRAB A SCALPEL AND START KILLING YOU ALL OF, I’M NOT FUCKING JOCKING” I yell with the craiziest look on my face. Then they all start moving towards us, they lay him on a litter and take him to a surgery room. They said they need to inspect him before doing anything.
“(Y/N)...” whispers Steve, I turn around “ I think you should get help too, those wounds on your back don’t look good plus you have been limping on your left leg since we were on the Upside down.” he looks around for some nurses, they all seem to comprehend the situation and take me in.
Now all my torso is bandaged and my left foot has a cast, I look disgusting. My face and arms are still covered with dried mud and blood, most of the areas covered with bruises. I'm sitting next to Eddie’s bed, my head resting on the mattress. He is sleeping now, they gave him some sleeping medicine so he can rest, he has lost a lot of blood but the doctors said he is going to be alright. Dustin is sleeping on the big chair.
Before I fall asleep, someone knocks on the  door, hoping to see some nurse with some test results. I turn my  head rapidly. To my surprise I see my Dad, who I thought had died eight months ago , and El with her head shaved again.
“D-dad!” I try to run towards him, tears falling down my rusty face, but my injured leg doesn’t allow me to make more than three steps.
“Oh my beautiful girl” he says as he hugs me tightly. “I’ve missed you so much” he loosens his grip when he notices the bandages on my back. “ What happened?!” he questions.
“I’ll tell you tomorrow, okay?” he nods. I hug El, she has grown so much in this past months.
“(Y/N)” a small voice behind me calls me. Eddie is awake, he is smiling like he always is.
“Hi there sunshine, how are you feeling?” my dad helping me to get closer to him. He doesn’t say anything, still too weak. “I thought I had lost you. Don’t you ever do that again Eddie Munson, because if this shit repeats again you are dead. And this time will be real” He laughs, god I hate seeing him like this.
The doctors come in to check on him while we all wait outside his room.  When they leave my dad makes a signal, telling us he wants to go in by himself. He doesn’t fully close the door , I rest my ear so I can hear what they are talking about.
“Thank you, son” he says
“For what, sir?” I can’t hear his voice clearly.
“For taking care of her, for protecting her everyday, since the first day you started dating. You are a good boy Munson” I smile to myself. “ You are welcome to the Hopper family”

FNAF MOVIE AUAUAUAGH
spoilers below!! i need to ramble!!!
ok ok so its so good first of all
i knew they were gonna massively change the plot once they revealed the first trailer. They were starting it off in fnaf 1, one of the last games in the original series timeline, and micheal didnt know anything about freddys? so i had plently of time to curb and change my expectations for what it'd be, and i was genuinely so happy with how much they changed!
I LOOOVED how much inspiration they took from the books, ESPECIALLY the silver eyes.
I noticed how mike and his family is actually a parallel to the Emily family. His family dynamic; one of the children being taken, the mother leaving or dying, and the father offing himself,, its all a big parallel to the emily family!! and Vanessa seems to be a game Micheal Afton parallel! both vanessa and game Micheal do their fathers (william afton) bidding, until their bubble finally pops and they turn on him! I feel like Vanessa will probably spend the next movies trying to undo her father's actions and free the children, probably with the help of micheal!!
Also a bit more of a gut feeling that banks on the family swap theory, maybe in this universe garret is the puppet? its a bit of a stretch, but it feels possible. Out of all the music they could've chosen to play in the credits, across several different games, they deliberately chose to use the marrionettes music box theme! that tied with the "its me" imagery that was left unresolved, seems like there could be a plotline there for the sequel? dont know, i wouldnt be surprised if garret being the puppet turns out to be false, but i think itd be cool. Theres no reason he would be in golden freddy, its not like he was bitten, which is why theres two spirits in golden freddy in the first place,,, so maybe vanessa had a sibling that was bitten instead? or there just isnt a second soul in golden freddy at all in this universe? Super excited to see where this leads in the sequels. Maybe we'll see some more flashbacks, see william and mikes dad (presumably henry) interact? See more of Mike paralleling Charlie and Sammy?
Also, the C-O-M-E F-I-N-D M-E in the credits at the end made me think it was garret at first, talking to micheal telling him to come find him. But then i remembered Micheal Aftons speech in Sister Location, where he specifically said "im going to come find you",, and that seems like it might be very specific word choice. Maybe its william telling vanessa to come find him as springtap? Or maybe its a complete coincidence and im over thinking it, dont know. Orrr it could be garret as the puppet trying to get micheal to find him, since those minigames were about the puppet methinks.
Anyway, im done theory dumping,, heres some things i didn't like,,
I HATE HATE HATED how william took off the spring bonnie head so fast, and how he kept it off for so long. Especially considering how much they took from the books? He basically NEEDED that thing to function. Plus he looked goofy with it off, and its just so much less iconic than it was with it on. I get they needed their reveal for general audiences who didnt know it was steve raglan, and they needed their celebrity face time, but it was just so annoying to me. Its not a deal breaker for the movie, but it definitely dampened my enjoyment of the scene. Also, the springlocks SUCKK!!! they're supposed to be holding robot parts back, and they're supposed to SNAP back into place super fast. But in the movie they're basically just a claw? and it closes SUPER slow????? i know they needed to make it less gory for the pg-13 rating,, but they still couldve made it not THAT.
all that aside, everything else about this movie is GREAT!! i love it so freaking much,,,, ive rewatched it like twice now ontop of my first watching. I love all the little references and lines and characters from the books, and sparky too!!! Genuinely good movie, im excited for any sequels to come!! It'll be nice to see yet another different interpretation and telling of this story, and im glad its its own thing.

CHARACTER NAME: Sass
CHARACTER FACECLAIM: Nastya Kusakina
CHARACTER AGE/DOB: 19 (June 25, 2006)
CHARACTER PRONOUNS/GENDER IDENTITY/SEXUALITY ETC: Nonbinary, they/them, Demisexual/Demiromantic
OC OR CANON: OC
WHERE THEY ARE CURRENTLY LOCATED & ANY IMPORTANT ALLIANCES OF NOTE: Lalock, Pennsylvania (A small town in Western Pennsylvania alongside the Allegheny River. About halfway between Pittsburgh and Erie) Lalock itself is very divided, with various factions scattering across the River.
IMPORTANT CHARACTER INFORMATION TO NOTE AND SHARE: It was only five years into life that the world ended for Sass. They don’t remember much of how life was “before,” they grew up with the dead arisen and their life constantly on the line.
Five years into the end of days, as their parents called it, Sass was ten. They and their sister snuck out to play in the woods surrounding their land. They were attacked by a handful of walkers and Sass’s sister was bitten. Sass took their older sister home and was consequently made to end their sister’s life as punishment for sneaking out.
Six more years pass. Sass is sixteen and they live a militant lifestyle with their parents, alone in an old trailer set way back in the woods. They have a secure perimeter.
Their father is out hunting, it’s peak deer season and the old corn fields on the edge of their property make the deer easy pickings. He falls asleep in his tree stand and never wakes up. Heart attack. The rapture, their mother calls it. Finally taking him home. She says.
Later that same year, Sass’s mother gets sick. Sass is forced to venture off their property for the first time since they were five to seek outside help. They find Lalock in a tenuous survival, but people are untrustworthy of them– Until they mention their father, Beloved radio host, Roy Sass. Those who knew him come to the old trailer in the woods.
Sass’s mother is too far gone, they say. Sass’s mother keeps going for three weeks after they say that until she too, is dead. Sass is left with the property and a new problem– The people in town know their location now.
Forced into making an alliance with the group who guard what was the main street of the tiny town, Sass agrees to let them hunt on their land and plant the fields of their property so long as they are left alone and are given help if they ask for it.
Alliance goes well.
Three years pass. Sass is nineteen. Some rando comes along their property– calls himself Wolfgang. He wants information they don’t have. Sass agrees to let him stay awhile if he helps with this year’s planting. He agrees.
Sass finds a ham radio of their father’s and begins making broadcasts. Not of their location, ever, just vague news about the town, their life, and playing music from a battery powered boom box pressed close to the radio.
Batteries may be a precious commodity, but many in Lalock and the surrounding communities are willing to trade them to Sass (or Wolfgang, who does most of these exchanges for them) in order to request songs from their seemingly endless number of CD’s and cassette tapes.
Currently in the works for Sass? They want to acquire some solar panels from a nearby group just outside Lalock’s perimeters. It will be a tough trade.
But Sass didn’t get this far by backing down from a challenge.

first off this story is so dear to my heart, I was obsessed w Hans Christian Anderson as a kid, like dress up as him and went to school obsessed, so I LOVED that they gave him his flowers at the start
as a pisces (i know) I'm a fucking fan for all the nautical shit, fathoms below, mermaid/siren lore, locations, the little details, really well done
the colors were more saturated than I had given them credit for based on the trailer
the score and arrangements were fabulous no complaint from me
on that note, Halle can sing like nobody's business, sounds v much like Jodi, such a beautiful voice
underwater effects 10/10
also wasn't mad at the glitter nail polish and shiny/scale skin
halle's makeup and hair underwater, trash. but on land sooo good. could this not have been restored with...effects of some kind my brother in christ?
pretty cool the additional songs they added to get not only Eric's but Ariel's inner monologue as well, something I didn't know I was missing and so happy to have
the actress who played Vanessa ATE that roll UP, she mothered, and acted tf out of her scenes my god
sebastian looked so realistic I wanted to steam him and eat his claws the whole time
the cherry on top? JODI FUCKING BENSON EVERYONE😍😍😍🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵 as a kid watching her walk around that lil rocky sand island singing part of ur world at the end of the vhs tape was always my fav part, so happy she's alive to see this and be included
dislikes:
no Triton's daughters song? sebastian's musical career is central to his character but ok. don't really know why the sisters needed a name change either, but hey
riddle me this, why do only scuttle, flounder, and sebastian speak? because they're big actors getting paid? make it make sense, please. I wanted the fish to sing in Under the Sea, and the eels, but only certain creatures have sentience ? Also they're all just cool w scuttle eating a fish 👁👄👁
and for under the sea, yeah jellyfish, starfish, and sea slugs are sick as hell.....but WHAT ABOUT FISH!?
part of me wishes Ursula's tentacles were purple and the fire cauldron was pink, like in og, but I understand they wanted to do a whole complementary blue/orange thing so I can let it slide
WHY WAS ARIEL IN THAT ONE BLUE DRESS ALL THE TIME, NO PJS?? CASUAL WEAR??? WEDDING DRESS??? the people want answers
no transition for her father giving her legs??? no shimmering dress??? -10/10 come on man that's like the best part!
apparently they don't know Eric lore bc he obviously plays the flute, but I digress
when Ursula puts Eric under her spell as Vanessa.....that wasn't really made clear, unless you've watched og. why not add some mist or sparkles or something...
was the amnesia necessary. is that really what was missing from this film. if anything they didn't drive the three sunsets home hard enough
no wedding cruise ship w dolphins, lobsters, and seals causing mayhem </3
it was a little dark bro, like if I saw this as a kid I would be terrified w the skulls and MERMAID SKELETON, blood oath, Ursula's random face gills, and her dad just like basically dying, wtf disney who is the intended audience
i see how they are turning away from colonization narrative by having Eric be adopted, and a curious explorer/academic. however, it felt weird and unnecessary bc I'm pretty sure the og and Anderson's versions take place in Denmark so....why
also the climate change nod, yes of course this is such an important issue, but can I just fucking escape politics and the real world and enjoy a fantastical tale about mermaids??? do I really need to be constantly reminded of humanity's defects I just cant-
and the biggest tragedy and dislike of all REST IN PIECE LE POISSOIN AND CHEF LOUIE 👼🪦😥
I tried to organize this post but Tumblr was being a pain in the ass so here we are, would love to hear other thoughts! not looking for an argument tho!

The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (1976)
The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane is a 1976 cross-genre film directed by Nicolas Gessner and starring Jodie Foster, Martin Sheen, Alexis Smith, Mort Shuman, and Scott Jacoby. It was a co-production of Canada and France and written by Laird Koenig, based on his 1974 novel of the same title.  The plot focuses on 13-year-old Rynn Jacobs (Foster), a child whose absent poet father and secretive behaviours prod the suspicions of her conservative small-town Maine neighbours. The adaptation, originally intended as a play, was filmed in Quebec on a small budget. The production later became the subject of controversy over reports that Foster had conflicts with producers over the filming and inclusion of a nude scene, but a 21-year-old body double (Foster's sister) was used. After a screening at the 1976 Cannes Film Festival, a court challenge was launched regarding distribution, and a general release followed in 1977.
 Alice Sweet Alice (1976)
Alice, Sweet Alice (originally titled Communion) is a 1976 American slasher film co-written and directed by Alfred Sole, and starring Linda Miller, Paula Sheppard, and Brooke Shields in her film debut. Set in 1961 New Jersey, the film focuses on a troubled adolescent girl who becomes a suspect in the brutal murder of her younger sister at her First Communion, as well as in a series of unsolved stabbings that follow.  Inspired by Nicolas Roeg's Don't Look Now (1973) and the films of Alfred Hitchcock, writer-director Sole devised the screenplay with Rosemary Ritvo, an English professor who was his neighbor. At the time, Sole had been working as an architect restoring historic buildings in his hometown of Paterson, New Jersey, and several properties he had worked on were used as shooting locations. Filming took place throughout the summer of 1975 in Paterson and Newark. The film premiered at the Chicago International Film Festival under its original title, Communion, in November 1976, and was released under this title in London in September 1977. After being acquired by Allied Artists, it was re-titled Alice, Sweet Alice, and released in the United States on November 18, 1977. Another theatrical re-release occurred in 1981 under the title Holy Terror, which marketed the popularity of Shields after her performance in Louis Malle's Pretty Baby (1978). While not prosecuted for obscenity, the film was seized and confiscated in the UK under Section 3 of the Obscene Publications Act 1959 during the video nasty panic, and was controversial in Ireland due to its apparent anti-Catholic themes.

tbh I didn’t expect ppl to like Glamrock Ballora’s design that much :’]
Tumblr media
I remember hearing the intro song from that FNaF Security Breach trailer. It sounds similar to Ballora’s music box in Sister Location (likely a remix), and some people were theorizing about a potential appearance in the game (either as a relevant character or a cameo) and boy I was SO DAMN HYPED!!!!! she is my favorite character after all
My expectations were so high while thinking of the possibilities to the point they became something else; that’s when I wrote Glamrock Ballora’s lore.
I went for a balanced design and added both Moon and Sun’s color palettes and their respective texture patterns. Wrote her as “peaceful, caring, and supportive”, actively helping Glamrock Freddy and Gregory throughout the game, having interesting dialogs (potentially giving lore info), and even saving our progress.
Now, remember that one Circus Baby line?
— Do you ever play make believe? Pretend to be one way when you are really the other? It’s very important. Ballora never learns, but I do.
Hints on her dialogs, generally mysterious behavior, even other character’s opinions on her... It all indicates she is hiding something.
“Holding back so much anger, Ballora is unable to rest. She is waiting for him. Waiting for the right opportunity to put an end to everything. Once and for all”.
A cold-hearted, impetuous, and beautifully dangerous ballerina...

be stuck with you - owen patrick joyner x (reader)
Tumblr media
Word Count: 2303
Request: YES, from that sweet @idontcare011, hope you’ll like it !
Summary:  you were late and a random boy comes into the elevator at the last minute. By some incredible force of fate (or pretty crappy weather) you find yourself stuck with the young man in this narrow cabin.
Warnings: panic attack and i think it’s all
disclaimer: I don't know Owen personally or what his life is like. All you will read in this "x reader" is from my imagination. My point is not to invade Owen's privacy. I don't want to offend him or offend anybody else in his life (family, potential girlfriend…I heard maybe he has one, so I don’t know but I don’t want to offend her).  All of this is not the reality
Tagged: @asdfghjkl-fanfics @standingtalllove @lukeys-giggle
---
Thanks God, the quarantine was over and everyone could travel again. However, this stupid virus was not completely gone. Since the health crisis, you have adopted new habits, such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator. But today, you were in a hurry, so you entered the cabin eagerly. The conference you were due to attend was starting in no less than twenty minutes, and your itinerary had said it would take you 15 to get to your planned location. But with the weather conditions creeping in out there, you were sure you would need a lot longer than advertised. The automatic door was closing when a hand stepped in the way. A young blond man appeared and slipped into the elevator. You grumbled at the action, making you fall a few more seconds behind.
"Sorry" the boy said through his mask.
 But you didn't answer.
You had almost ten floors to go down together. You looked in your bag for a while to make sure you had your recorder when you felt an uncontrolled jerk. Your body no longer held you in balance but you caught yourself on a side of the elevator as the young man accompanying you tended to stabilize you. The lights flashed for a while and then went out. Your eyes widened as your heart pounded.
"oh no no no no no no no. Anything except that, please!" you said, frantically pressing a random button.
 “I think we stuck…”
"Oh yeah, what makes you think that?" The fact that we weren't moving or that the lights went out? "
The boy threw up his hands in defense, eyes wide with so much animosity.
"Hey, I'm in the same situation. You don't have to be aggressive."
You groaned before leaning against one of the elevator walls, peering into the face of your elevator failure companion. He had blond hair; his tips reached the base of his neck. But his expressive blue eyes - seeming constantly anxious - reminded you of someone, but you didn't know who. You have pushed the alarm button to warn the staff that there was someone in the lift.
“Sorry, it’s seems to be a bad day. I’m late and now I’m stuck in an elevator with a perfect stranger”
 “I’m Owen…Not a stranger anymore”
“I’m y/n, but yes, you still are”
Owen laughed at your outspokenness and you gave him a polite smile before you were silent for several minutes.
After what seemed like forever - when it was only ten minutes - you looked at your phone. No networks. For no obvious reason, when everything seemed to be going well, your heart started to beat faster. The thought of being stuck here forever crossed your mind and ached in your chest. The boy in front of you seemed so calm, which made you even more anxious.
"How the hell can you stay so calm"
"Oh ... I'm dying inside, just trying to play it cool"
You can help with giving him an amused smile, he had been so frank. But this little interaction did not bring you back down from your state. You were breathing harder and harder, your chest was heaving quickly, it was nearly out of control. Owen seemed to notice that and give you a concerned look.
 "Panic attack?"
You nodded briskly and Owen approached you cautiously. You saw his hands move towards you and your gaze expressed fear but you were paralyzed to do anything.
"I'm going to take that damn mask off you already."
Gently, he grabbed the fabric mask and pulled a little on it to lower it, he reproduced the gesture with his own mask.
"Look at me, just me. There's nothing around us. Take a deep breath. I'll count to 3 and then you'll breathe out. Okay?"
you nodded and when he shook his to urge you to breathe you took a deep breath, like he told you to.
 "1..2..3"
You sighed, keeping your gaze on him. You started once more and when the blonde asked you if it was better, you were shaking your head negatively.
"We're starting over but… take my hands and squeeze them as much as you need. Don't worry about grinding them."
You grabbed his hands and restarted each step over, crushing his hands. But the contact with matter, your breath and Owen's comforting eyes, help you gently. A soothing silence has settled between you. Owen had helped you through this panic attack when you didn't even know each other. But you could feel deep inside that this man was good. Things seemed to calm down for you and you thanked Owen with a genuine smile.
“You know how to deal with it ... Thanks for that.”
“I also suffer from anxiety and panic attack. But the elevator is big enough here that it doesn't cause me one. Although I am a little anxious ...”
“hey, breathe Owen.” You replied with a smirk
Owen laughed and shook his head as if to say "that's a good one!" You look at the young man again, staring at him intently. It was very rude but you couldn't put a name on his face anymore. You were sure you knew him. Was he a distant cousin? A neighbor? A guy you knew in high school? Or just a guy you saw in an ad? Maybe the ad for these new cereals!
“Excuse me but ... I've seen you somewhere before, haven't I?”
“In an elevator, yeah!” he joked
 You laughed he was funny
“No, I mean ... I feel like I've seen you before but I really can't remember where.”
he sighed, as if a little tired of the question. You were surprised at his reaction but Owen answers you anyway
“Yeah, I don't usually talk about that when I first meet a girl, especially when I'm stuck in an elevator with her but ... I'm an actor. I played some stuff on Nickelodeon and now I'm supposed to shoot season two of Julie and the phantoms, it's a Netflix series.”
You watched him chattering, you nodded then wide your eyes. This is where you saw it! You had been relentlessly browsing the Netflix catalog and seeing the trailer for the series he told you about, but you had avoided it, the show seemed too childish for you. You first reaction was to make fun of him
"Again, don't forget to breath Owen. But the way, I didn’t want to bother you with that question."
He laughed lightly then smiled politely at you. You didn't seem to be a hysteric or a weird person. He had a deep feeling that you were a good person, which is why Owen seemed to relax.
"It's just ... for a while, I thought you were a fan and I didn't want things to be weird all suddenly "
"Oh don't worry I haven't seen any of your shows.” you said nonchalantly
Owen burst into laughter. Once again, it was bafflingly sincere and he was really starting to enjoy being stuck in an elevator with you. You smiled, the energy in the cabin was positive that you almost forgot you were stuck with this young man for almost half an hour. You didn't know when you were going to be able to get out of here but you didn't really care anymore for the sole reason that you wanted to get to know this man. You tilted your head back, resting it against the elevator wall before sighing loudly. Seconds later, your gaze turned to Owen again.
“So tell me about this series that you’re filming. What is it about?”
"It's a pretty cool show actually. It's directed by Kenny Ortega, I don't know if you see who he is."
"Hell yeah ... he's the choreographer of Dirty Dancing"
"Himself ... So what about the storyboard ... It's about ..."
And then, you listened to him to tell you about the series. Something like a '90s band dying of food poisoning from a bad hotdog and returning twenty-five years later as ghosts to help a super talented young girl to make music after her mom passed away. It made you laugh; it was probably the dumbest death on TV after Marion Cotillard's in Batman. He couldn't even stop anymore so that he sometimes swapped over a few anecdotes from the set. You even got a little exclusive on season two before Owen stopped in the middle of a sentence.
"Sorry, I got a little carried away. But when you like your job, it's pretty easy to talk about it."
You smiled at him and Owen started asking you questions, about your work, your life, your passions and you were giving him back. The conversation was fluid, natural You learned that he was German, that his mother tongue was German until he was about four years old, that he had a sister and had lived with his parents until that year when he moved into his own apartment. Getting to know Owen was really nice and you could feel your stomach twist every time he smiled. He was a boy full of humor but also sarcasm.
You've been stuck with Owen for an hour and a half now. You ended up sitting on the floor of the elevator. Boredom was really starting to take hold of you. You rummaged through your bag for something, anything. An idea crossed your mind when you saw the small block of post-it notes.
 "Owen"
 "hmm?"
"How would you like to play a game?"
"What kind of game do you want to play here?"
 "Who am I?"
"Obviously you are y/n" he tells you with a smirk.
You laughed before pulling out your notepad and a pencil to show it to the blonde. He claimed to have understood your intention, which made you smile even more. Of course, Owen knew the game you wanted to play. He nodded, and you'd write a celebrity's name on a sticky note before sticking it on your new friend's forehead. He did the same for you. Fortunately, your two post-its are well stuck. Owen spoke
 "I start: am I a man?"
"Obviously" you say with a smirk, responding to the blonde's previous joke.
Owen laughed, catching the tone of your voice.
“But how funny she is! Is my character a man?” He continued.
You did several parts. You even teased him when he made you guess Julie and the phantoms, because the game didn't stop only with characters, celebrities but also series, movies, musicals. You were laughing when there was another shake, stronger than the first, the lights came back on and you couldn't help but be disappointed. You looked at Owen and he seemed to have the same gaze as yours. The doors barely opened and you found the hotel staff, patiently waiting to ask if you needed medical assistance, while also offering you a bottle of water. You left the elevator car, hurriedly stuffing the many post-its into your bag. You didn't really know how to act with the blond guy next to you. You had formed a little bubble in that enclosed space and now it seemed to have burst. For some strange reason, it made you sad. Now is the time to part ways with your new friend.
“well, good-goodbye, it was nice to meet you.”
you rushed into the hotel lobby a little more, but Owen seemed to catch up with you, his long legs only having to take a few strides.
 "wait, y/n!"
You turned to him, you could see the embarrassment on his cheeks, asking with a frown what was the cause.
"I think you let that go"
 "No, I don't"
You looked at the crumpled white paper. It even looked like a piece of chewing gum. And at first glance, Owen's perfectly white teeth were chewing one.
 "I think you did."
He handed you the paper with a determination that convinces you. You bite your lip as you look at the series of numbers on the packaging: a phone number. His telephone number. Owen swallowed hard as he looked at you. His eyes never leaving your lips.
"It's pretty spontaneous of me but ... I won't start filming until next week. I hope you're still here the day after tomorrow ... because I would really like to ask you to come have a drink with me ... "
Your cheeks turned red, did he really just ask you for a date? You did not know what to answer. The urge to say yes was so present but you were afraid to rush. Perhaps humor was your only defense
 "it depends"
 "about what?"
"Does this appointment include a blocking session in an elevator? This is the only way it works"
Owen laughed before giving you a genuine smile, showing his perfectly aligned white teeth. God, what a beautiful man.
"I can try to fix this and find a faulty elevator."
"So expect a text from me"
You smiled back at him and gave him a wink before turning on your heels. Owen's heart skipped a beat and he when he arrived several hours late in the hairdressing section of the set, Charlie laughed at him saying that he had never seen him so happy to have a haircut. hair. But in reality, the blond was only waiting for one thing, and that was to receive a message from you, which arrived in a second.
(y/n) text : "After being stuck in an elevator, here I am stuck in traffic ... Are you sure you want a date with me, you might just end up stuck with me?"
Owen couldn't help but smile broadly.
Owen text : "I'm sure. I'd love to even be stuck with you (again).”
(y/n) text : “Fine, ghost boy. See you soon”

HITTING NEW HEIGHTS
BY MARCUS SCOTT
ORIGINAL RENT STAR DAPHNE RUBIN-VEGA TAKES YOU INSIDE THE IN THE HEIGHTS FILM
Qué quiere decir sueñito?” The disembodied voice of a girlchild ponders. “It means ‘little dream,’” responds an unseen authoritative figure, his feathery tenor with a soft rasp and tender lilt implying there’s more to the story.
Teal waves crash against the white sand coastal lines of the Dominican Republic and a quartet of children plead with the voice to illuminate and tell a story. Usnavi de la Vega (played by Anthony Ramos), sporting his signature newsboy flat cap and full goatee, begins to narrate and weave a tall-tale from the comforts of his beachside food cart: “This is the story of a block that was disappearing. Once upon a time in a faraway land called Nueva York, en barrio called Washington Heights. Say it, so it doesn’t disappear,” he decrees.
And we’re off, this distant magic kingdom ensnared within the winding urban sprawl of farthest-uptown Manhattan, the music of the neighborhood chiming with infinite possibilities: a door-latch fastening on tempo, a ring of keys sprinkling a sweet embellishment, the splish-splash of a garden hose licking the city streets like a drumstick to a snare fill, a manhole cover rotating like vinyl on a get-down turntable, the hiss of paint cans spraying graffiti like venoms from cobras and roll-up steel doors rumbling, not unlike the ultra-fast subway cars zigzagging underground. So begins the opening moments of In the Heights, the Warner Bros. stage-to-screen adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical by composer-lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) and librettist Quiara Alegría Hudes (Water by the Spoonful) that is set to premiere in movie theatres and on HBO Max on June 11, 2021.
This stunning patchwork of visuals and reverberations combine to create a defiant and instantly memorable collage of inner-city living not seen since Walter Hill’s 1979 cult classic The Warriors or West Side Story, the iconic romantic musical tragedy directed on film by Robert Wise and original Broadway director Jerome Robbins. With Jon M. Chu at the helm, the musical feature has all the trademarks of the director’s opulent signature style: Striking spectacles full of stark colors, va-va-voom visuals, ooh-la-la hyperkinetic showstopping sequences and out-of-this-world destination locations.

A Kind of Priestess
Joining the fray of proscenium stage vets in the film is Broadway star Daphne Rubin-Vega, who originated the role of Mimi in the Off-Broadway and Broadway original productions of Rent. She returns to major motion pictures after a decade since her last outing in Nancy Savoca’s Union Square, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2011. When we caught up with Rubin-Vega, she was hard at work, in-between rehearsals with her In the Heights co-star Jimmy Smits on Two Sisters and a Piano, the 1999 play by Miami-based playwright Nilo Cruz, a frequent collaborator. Rubin-Vega netted a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her role as the enraptured Conchita in Cruz’s Anna in the Tropics; that same year Cruz was awarded the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, making him the first Latino playwright to receive the honor. Despite significant global, social and economic disruption, especially within the arts community, Rubin-Vega has been working throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
“People around me have [contracted] COVID… My father-in-law just had it. I’m very fortunate,” Rubin-Vega said. “This collective experience, it’s funny because it’s a year now and things seem better. Last year it was, like, ‘Damn, how inconvenient!’ The one comfort was that, you know, it’s happening to every one of us. That clarity that this is a collective experience is much more humbling and tolerable to me.”
The last time Rubin-Vega graced Washington Heights on screen or stage, she acted in the interest of survival and hunger as a probationer released after a 13-year stint in prison and given a new lease on life as an unlicensed amateur masseuse in the basement of an empanada shop in Empanada Loca, The Spalding Gray-style Grand Guignol horror play by Aaron Mark at the LAByrinth Theater Company in 2015. In In the Heights she plays Daniela, an outrageously vivacious belting beautician with a flair for the dramatics, forced to battle a price-gouging real estate bubble in the wake of gentrification.
“She’s like the deputy or the priestess,” Rubin-Vega said. “Owning a salon means that you have a lot of information; you’re in a hub of community, of information, of sharing… it’s also where you go for physical grooming. It’s a place where women were empowered to create their own work and it is a place of closeness, spiritual advice, not-so-spiritual advice. Physical attention.”
She said, “Daniela also being an elder; I think she’s not so much a person that imposes order on other people. She’s there to bring out the best—she leads with love. She tells it like it is. I don’t think she sugar-coats things. What you see is what you get with Daniela. It’s refreshing; she has a candor and sure-footedness that I admire.”
With the film adaptation, Chu and Hudes promised to expand the universe of the Upper Manhattan-based musical, crafting new dimensions and nuances to two characters in particular: Daniela and hairdresser Carla, originally portrayed as business associates and gossip buddies in the stage musical. On the big screen they are reimagined as romantic life partners. Stephanie Beatriz, known to audiences for her hilarious turn as the mysterious and aloof Detective Rosa Diaz in the police procedural sitcom romp “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” co-stars as the fast-talking firecracker, Carla.
It’s been a year waiting, you know. It’s like the lid’s been on it and so we’re just so ready to explode.
Where Is Home?
“Well, Quiara and Jon really expanded on what Lin and Quiara originally created and now they’re partners—and not just work partners, right? But they’re life partners,” Beatriz said at a March press event celebrating the release of the film’s two promo trailers. “What was so gratifying to me as a person who is queer is to see this relationship in the film be part of the fabric of the community, and to be normal, and be happy and functioning, and part of the quilt they’ve all created.”
She continued, “So much of this film is about where home is and who home is to you. And for Carla, Daniela is home. Wherever Daniela is, that’s where Carla feels at home. I thought that they did such a beautiful job of guiding us to this, really, you know, it’s just a happy functioning relationship that happens to be gay and in the movie. And I love that they did that, because it is such a part of our world.”
Rubin-Vega said she had no interest in playing any trope of what one might think a lesbian Latina might look or act like, noting that the queer experience isn’t monolithic, while expressing that the role offered her a newfound freedom, especially with regard to being present in the role and in her everyday life.
“Spoiler alert! I felt like not wearing a bra was going to free me. Did I get it right? Am I saying that gay women don’t wear bras? No, it was just a way for me to be in my body and feel my breasts. To feel my femaleness and celebrate it in a more unapologetic way,” she said, laughing. “To be honest, I was really looking forward to playing a lesbian Latina. It’s something that I hadn’t really explored before. Latinos [can be] very homophobic as a culture, and I wanted to play someone who didn’t care about homophobia; I was gonna live my best life. That’s a bigger thing. It’s also like, maybe I’m bisexual. Who knows? Who cares? If you see that in the film, that’s cool too, you know?”
Stand-out performances abound, especially with regard to the supporting cast; newcomers Melissa Barrera (in a role originated by Tony Award winner Karen Olivo) and Gregory Diaz IV (replacing three-time Tony Award nominee Robin de Jesús) are noteworthy as the aspiring fashion designer Vanessa and budding activist Sonny. Olga Merediz, who earned a Tony Award nomination for originating her role as Abuela Claudia, returns to the silver screen in a captivating performance that will be a contender come award season. However, Rubin-Vega may just be the one to watch. Her performance is incandescent and full of moxie, designed to raise endorphin levels. She leads an ensemble in the rousing “Carnaval del Barrio,” a highlight in the film.
Musical Bootcamp
“We shot in June [2019]. In April, we started musical bootcamp. In May, we started to do the choreography. My big joke was that I would have to get a knee replacement in December; that was in direct relation to all that choreography. I mean, there were hundreds of A-1 dancers in the posse,” Rubin-Vega said. “The family consisted of hundreds of superlative dancers led by Chris[topher] Scott, with an amazing team of dancers like Ebony Williams, Emilio Dosal, Dana Wilson, Eddie Torres Jr. and Princess Serrano. We rehearsed a fair bit. Monday through Friday for maybe five weeks. The first day of rehearsal I met Melissa [Barrera] and Corey [Hawkins], I pretty much hadn’t known everyone yet. I hadn’t met Leslie [Grace] yet. Chris Scott, the choreographer, just went straight into ‘let’s see what you can do.’ It was the first [dance] routine of ‘In The Heights,’ the opening number. He was like, ‘OK, let’s go. Five, six, seven, eight!’”
Rubin-Vega said that she tried to bring her best game, though it had “been a minute” since she had to execute such intricate choreography, noting that they shot the opening number within a day while praising Chu’s work ethic and leadership.
“There was a balance between focus and fun and that’s rare. Everyone was there because they wanted to be there,” she said. “I think back to the day we shot ‘96,000.’ That day it wouldn’t stop raining; [it was] grey and then the sky would clear and we’d get into places and then it would be grey again and so we’d have to wait and just have to endure. But even the bad parts were kind of good, too. Even the hottest days. There were gunshots, there was a fire while we were shooting and we had to shut down, there was traffic and noise and yet every time I looked around me or went into video village and saw the faces in there, I mean…it felt like the only place to be. You want to feel like that in every place you are: The recognition. I could recognize people who look like me. For now on, you cannot say I’ve never seen a Panamanian on film before or a Columbian or a Mexican, you know?”
Another Notion of Beauty
Rubin-Vega’s professional relationship with the playwright Hudes extends to 2015, when she was tapped to [participate in the] workshop [production of]  Daphne’s Dive. Under the direction of Thomas Kail (Hamilton) and starring alongside Samira Wiley (“The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Orange Is the New Black”), the play premiered Off-Broadway at the Pershing Square Signature Center the following year. Rubin-Vega also starred in Miss You Like Hell, the cross-country road musical by Hudes and Erin McKeown, which premiered at La Jolla Playhouse in 2016 before it transferred to The Public Theater in 2018. With her participation in the production of In the Heights, she is among the few to have collaborated with all of the living Latinx playwrights to have won the Pulitzer Prize; Hudes won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her play Water by the Spoonful, while Miranda took home the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Hamilton. Speaking on her multiple collaborations over the years, Rubin-Vega also acknowledged having known Miranda years before they would join voices.
“Lin to me is like a little bro or legacy; he’s a direct descent to me from [Rent author] Jonathan Larson, which is a bigger sort of all-encompassing arch,” she said, though she stressed that she auditioned like everyone else, landing the role after two or three callbacks. “Quiara and I have a wonderful working and personal relationship, I think. Which isn’t to say I had dibs by any means because…it’s a business that wants the best for itself, I suppose. […] So, when I walked in, I was determined to really give it my best.”
Life During and After Rent
Rubin-Vega has built an impressive resume over the course of her career, singing along with the likes of rock stars like David Bowie and starring in a multitude of divergent roles on Broadway and off. From a harrowing Fantine in Les Misérables and a co-dependent Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire to a sinister Magenta in The Rocky Horror Show, her evolution into the atypical character actor and leading lady can be traced back 25 years to January 25, 1996, when Larson’s groundbreaking musical Rent, a retelling of Giacomo Puccini’s 19th-century opera La Bohème, premiered at the New York Theatre Workshop. On the morning of the first preview, Larson suffered an aortic dissection, likely from undiagnosed Marfan’s syndrome and died at the age of 35, just ten days shy of what would have been his 36th birthday.
On April 29, 1996, due to overwhelming popularity, Rent transferred to Nederlander Theatre on Broadway, tackling contemporary topics the Great White Way had rarely seen, such as poverty and class warfare during the AIDS epidemic in New York City’s gritty East Village at the turn of the millennium. Rubin-Vega would go on to be nominated for the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her role as sex kitten Mimi Márquez, an HIV-positive heroin addict and erotic dancer.
The show became a cultural phenomenon, receiving several awards including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and four Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Rubin-Vega and members of the original Broadway cast were suddenly overnight sensations, recording “Seasons of Love” alongside music icon Stevie Wonder, receiving a photo shoot with Vanity Fair and landing the May 13, 1996 cover of Newsweek. Throughout its 12-year Broadway run, many of the show’s original cast members and subsequent replacements would go on to be stars, including Renée Elise Goldsberry, who followed in Rubin-Vega’s footsteps to play the popular character before originating the role of Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton, for which she won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.
When the screen adaptation of Rent hit cinemas in 2005 under the direction of Chris Columbus, Rubin-Vega’s conspicuous absence came as a blow to longtime fans. The confluence of pregnancy with the casting and filming process of Rent hindered her from participating at the time. The role was subsequently given to movie star Rosario Dawson.
“First of all, if you’re meant to be in a film, you’re meant to be in it,” Rubin-Vega said. “That’s just the way it goes. It took a quarter of a century but this [In the Heights] is a film that I wanted to make, that I felt the elements sat right. I always felt that Rent was a little bit darker than all that. Rent to me is Rated R. In The Heights is not. It’s also a testament. Unless it’s sucking your soul and killing you softly or hardly, just stick with it. This is a business and I keep forgetting it’s a business because actors just want to show art. So, it’s really wonderful when you get a chance to say what you mean and mean what you say with your work. It’s a really wonderful gift.”
Rarely-Explored Themes
Like Larson’s award-winning show and the film adapted from it, In The Heights is jam-packed with hard-hitting subject matter, addressing themes of urban blight, immigration, gentrification, cultural identity, assimilation and U.S. political history. When Rubin-Vega’s character Daniela and her partner were priced out of the rent for her salon, most of her clientele moved to the Grand Concourse Historic District in the Bronx. Her salon, a bastion of the community, is met with a polar response when she announces she’s joining the mass exodus with the other victims of gentrification who were pushed out by rising rents. The news is met with negative response from long-time patrons who refuse to take the short commute to the new location. Daniela counters, “Our people survived slave ships, we survived Taino [indigenous Caribbean people] genocide, we survived conquistadores and dictators…you’re telling me we can’t survive the D train to Grand Concourse?”
The question is humorous, but also insinuates a more nuanced understanding of the AfroLatinidad experience in the Western world. The film also looks at the American Dream with a naturalistic approach. Leslie Grace, who plays Nina Rosario, a first-generation college student returning from her freshman year at Stanford University and grappling with finances and the expectations of her community, noted that while her character “finds [herself] at some point at a fork in the road,” she may not have the luxury to be indecisive because of the pressures put on by family, community and country.
“The struggle of the first-generation Americans in the Latino community is not talked about a lot because it’s almost like a privilege,” Grace asserted. “You feel like it’s a privilege to talk about it. But there is a lot of identity crisis that comes with it and I think we explore that.” Speaking on the character, she elaborated: “Home for her is where her heart is, but also where her purpose is. So, she finds her purpose in doing something outside of herself, greater than herself and going back to Stanford for the people she loves in her community. I really relate to where she’s at, trying to find herself. And I think a lot of other people will, too.”
Worth Singing About
For Miranda, a first-generation Puerto Rican New Yorker that grew up in Inwood at the northernmost tip of Manhattan before attending Wesleyan University where he would develop the musical, this speaks to a larger issue of what defines a home.
“What does ‘home’ even mean? Every character is sort of answering it in a different way,” he said. “For some people, home is somewhere else. For some people, home is like ‘the block’ they’re on. So, that’s worth singing about. It’s worth celebrating in a movie of this size.”
Given the current zeitgeist, it’s no wonder why Chu, Hudes and Miranda decided to pivot with adapting the stage musical for the big screen, leaning in to tackle the plights and predicaments of DREAMers [children of undocumented immigrants seeking citizenship] stateside. In one scene, glimpses of posters at a protest rally read “Immigrant Rights are Human Rights” and “Refugees Are People Too.” Growing up in a multicultural household as a Latina with a Black Latina mother, a white father and a Jewish American stepfather, Rubin-Vega said she was used to being in spaces that were truly multiracial. Nevertheless, there were times when she often felt alien, especially as a du jour rock musical ingenue who looked as she did in the mid-1990s through the 2000s.
“Undocumented people come in different shapes and colors,” she noted. “To be born in a land that doesn’t recognize you, it’s a thing that holds so much horror… so much disgrace happens on the planet because human beings aren’t recognized as such sometimes.”
The film “definitely sheds light on that, but it also talks about having your dream taken away and its human violation—it’s a physical, spiritual, social, cultural violation,” Rubin-Vega said. “There’s a difference between pursuing dreams and being aware of reality. They’re not mutually exclusive. What this film does, it presents a story that is fairly grounded in reality. It’s a musical, it’s over the top… but it reflects a bigger reality, which is like an emotional reality…that people that are challenged on the daily, have incredible resolve, incredible resoluteness and lifeforce.”
She said: “Growing up, looking like me, I got to ingest the same information as everyone else except when it came time to implement my contributions, they weren’t as welcomed or as seen. The dream is to be seen and to be recognized. Maybe I could be an astronaut or an ingenue on Broadway? You can’t achieve stuff that you haven’t imagined. When it talks about DREAMers, it talks about that and it talks about how to not be passive in a culture that would have you think you are passive but to be that change and to dare to be that change.”
Dreams Come True
Dreams are coming true. Alongside the nationwide release of the much-anticipated film, Random House announced it will publish In the Heights: Finding Home, which will give a behind-the-scenes look at the beginnings of Miranda’s 2008 breakout Broadway debut and journey to the soon-to-be-released film adaptation. The table book will chronicle the show’s 20-year voyage from page to stage—from Miranda’s first drawings at the age of 19 to lyric annotations by Miranda and essays written by Hudes to never-before-seen photos from productions around the world and the 2021 movie set. It will be released to the public on June 22, eleven days after the release of the film; an audiobook will be simultaneously released by Penguin Random House Audio.
Hinting at the year-long delay due to the pandemic, Rubin-Vega said, “It’s been a year waiting, you know. It’s like the lid’s been on it and so we’re just so ready to explode.”
Bigger Dreams
“Jon [Chu], I think, dreams bigger than any of us dare to dream in terms of the size and scope of this,” Miranda said. “We spent our summer [in 2018] on 175th Street. You know, he was committed to the authenticity of being in that neighborhood we [all] grew up in, that we love, but then also when it comes to production numbers, dreaming so big. I mean, this is a big movie musical!”
Miranda continued, “We’re so used to asking for less, just to ask to occupy space, you know? As Latinos, we’re, like, ‘Please just let us make our little movie.’ And Jon, every step of the way, said, like, ‘No, these guys have big dreams. We’re allowed to go that big!’ So, I’m just thrilled with what he did ’cause I think it’s bigger than any of us ever dreamed.”
Speaking at the online press conference, Miranda said, “I’m talking to you from Washington Heights right now! I love it here. The whole [movie] is a love letter to this neighborhood. I think it’s such an incredible neighborhood. It’s the first chapter in so many stories. It’s a Latinx neighborhood [today]. It was a Dominican neighborhood when I was growing up there in the ’80s. But before that it was an Irish neighborhood and Italian. It’s always the first chapter in so many American stories.”

Community Blog: Discover The Sims 4 Fashion Street (Official Trailer)
The Sims team has released the official blog for The Sims 4 Fashion Street Kit!
The Sims Takes on Mumbai, India in Style with Shruti Sitara Singh
youtube
Welcome to Fashion Street! Located in the city-center of Mumbai, India, Fashion Street has long been the premier shopping destination in this coastal metropolis, with over 150 vendors selling various wares, from vintage garb, to homemade garments, to designer threads. And it’s not just a hub for all things clothing, it’s also a cultural epicenter where one can enjoy food, music, architecture, the occasional Bollywood celebrity sighting, and the company of friends, family and significant others — we hear it’s quite the place to take a date.
For the latest kit offering, The Sims™ is taking players to this beautiful corner of the world, and unlocking the distinct style one would encounter there. To do so, The Sims has collaborated with its friend and fashion expert Shruti Sitara Singh to co-create a comprehensive and authentic wardrobe of vibrant color, high-contrast patterns, iconic silhouettes and trendy statement pieces that can be integrated into a Sim’s closet.
Tumblr media
Born, raised and currently based in Mumbai, Shruti Sitara Singh is an art-meets-fashion curator, creating immersive narratives that intersect art, music, theater, design and culture. She has worked with the Fashion Design Council of India as a curator and manager, led the launch of India’s first-ever digital fashion week, and served as a creative director for Lakmé Fashion Week. Her expertise is undeniable, but it’s her history with Mumbai’s fashion scene, and Fashion Street specifically, that made her the perfect partner for this kit.
“My first shopping experience was when I was in fourth grade,” reminisces Singh. “My mother had taken my sister and I to Fashion Street, and we were like ‘what is going on? There’s something known as shopping?’ That concept didn’t exist to me before that.”
Tumblr media
Singh has been visiting Fashion Street ever since. Even though she now rubs shoulders and collaborates with India’s fashion elite, she still enjoys the thrill of the bargain. “I love bargaining. That’s what makes Fashion Street, Fashion Street. It’s a heaven for shopaholics, and it’s a mind-boggling experience. Fashion Street is an experience of its own.”
To be fair to Singh and Mumbai, The Sims 4 Fashion Street Kit is directly inspired by the city’s fashion scene, however one can’t talk Mumbai style without mentioning its vendor-lined walkway. Mumbai itself is often referred to as “The City of Dreams” because it offers a plethora of job opportunities for people all over India and its neighboring countries. As a result, these different cultures and ethnicities converge on Fashion Street.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“The Fashion Street Kit is inspired by a lot of India, and of course Mumbai,” explains Singh. “It’s inspired by the Indian handloom (weaving) industry, which is preserving and rendering a beautiful picture of our age old heritage, known worldwide for its richness and purity of its textiles. Each piece is adorned with lively colors and prints specific to different cultures, because Mumbai, the City of Dreams, is a melting pot.”
The Sims 4 Fashion Street Kit is made up of a bevy of items for all Sims, from nose rings, henna tattoos, and sandals, to flowy wrap skirts and asymmetrical vests, two of Singh’s favorite pieces.
Tumblr media
“Since our team could not visit Mumbai, we worked virtually with Shruti to deliver designs that are relevant to the latest trends on the streets of Mumbai while incorporating traditional themes throughout the kit,” shares Sophia Lee, Senior Concept Artist for The Sims. “I am personally excited to see the full-body evening gown which brings in-game tasteful modern design elements to a traditional saree.”
The wrap skirt is directly inspired by the women of the Koli fishing community in Mumbai, who have inhabited and worked Mumbai’s coastal waters for hundreds of years. “Fisherwomen usually wear a sari,” explains Singh. “Saris are draped differently with every community and culture; in every state you go, there is a different way it is draped.” The Fashion Street Kit’s wrap skirt is influenced by how the Koli women wear their saris. “It’s easy breezy, it’s more like a skirt because they have to walk a lot and go into the ocean to fish, that’s why it’s above the knee and tucked in, so it doesn’t go into the water. It’s a beautiful silhouette.”

“With kits, The Sims is creating an immersive experience where people, places and experiences can be discovered, and our players from around the world can experiment with these distinctly unique mini collections of curated content,” shares Sheila Judkins, Director of Global Brand Management, The Sims. And, Singh offers her vision for players experimenting with The Sims 4 Fashion Street Kit, “I would like players to experience Mumbai, to understand the culture, to understand the clothing, and how comfortable, region-specific and vibrant the prints are; and how colourful the culture is. I want the players to know more about Mumbai, and experience it through their own versions of how they play [with the kit].”
