God bless Julian Fellowes for always including a silly little black haired gay man on his tv shows. bonus points when they also make awful financial decisions

Upon rewatch its cute to see Oscar coordinate some of his outfits with Marian. Like they've only known each other for a year and they match their clothes as if they were siblings lol.
Like imagine the shopping trips these two have, there has to be a rumor that Marian and Oscar are secretly siblings or in love (cousin marriages were still normal).

I'm proud of Gladys for turning Oscar down, but a part of me wants them to become besties because she needs friends to make her smile that will embrace her rebellious spirit.
And we could always use another scene like this -

"I survived a feckless brother and married a man that was not easy, so that I might live a life that was dignified and secure."
Agnes van Rhijn is probably my favorite character in The Gilded Age and the show made a little bit of progress in Season 2 of giving her a little more depth. BUT I'm really interested in learning more about what made her the woman she is.
Both Ada and Agnes have referred to Mr. van Rhijn as a very unpleasant man, but I always got the feeling that despite that they were kind of underplaying how truly horrible he was. There's definitely a dark tale there. No doubt that Agnes is a survivor and has repeatedly sacrificed her happiness to do so and protect her sister. Agnes wears her dignity like armor and you can't help but wonder what indignities she suffered from her husband after their brother left them with nothing. She would have done her best shield her 'innocent' sister from as much as she could, but Ada has always been observant so she would have known and done what she could to support her. I wonder how much different they were when Mr. van Rhijn was alive. Was Agnes able to bend that steel spine of hers to keep him placated as much as she could? Or did she use that sharp wit of hers to draw his attention to her instead of Ada and Oscar?
Also, I don’t think we've ever heard Oscar even refer to his father. I wonder how old he was when Mr. van Rhijn died. I think he knows what his mother went through and that she did her best to protect him. They have a rather fascinating relationship anyway. Agnes obviously trusted his intelligence and capabilities in stewarding the family fortune, but I also don't think she will ever truly trust any man to have her and Ada's best interests at heart, even her son.
