BIO.

there isn’t anyone who doesn’t know who kahlys is. stolen by the queen as a child and gifted with a unique power of mental manipulation, he serves as her messenger of death, doling out punishment to those who have wronged her. his presence in notellum is like a ghost, a phantom of death and a reaper of souls—though none of his orders are his free will.

there’s nothing to show that he feels anything when he takes a life, his face blank and his jaw set. in some ways, this reaction more frightening than rikaya's. while the queen takes pleasure in her kills, one questions if he is even capable of emotion.

kahlys has been taught sympathy is weakness, which explains his closed-off attitude and stoic personality. still, as you spend more time together, that flicker of life behind his eyes you spot every so often makes you wonder if some part of him is fighting for life somewhere deep inside.

APPEARANCE.

kahlys has warm light beige skin and double eyelidded dark gray eyes, the edges filled with black in a squid ink like manner. his short hair is a similar midnight black, the ends slightly curled with a front piece a contrasting bright white. he stands at 5’7 1/2.

kahlys is cis and demisexual. he is also touch-averse. the closest ethnicity to describe him would be korean.

0. Beta Testing

i don't know what introduction (if any) was used during beta testing! (beta testing happened from ~march 2010 (closed beta) to september 8, 2010). i think it's probably the introduction shown in #1, but if you have any more info, please let me know!

1. Liza in Jamaa Township (original)

started: either beta testing (march 2010-early september 2010) or the official release of the game on september 9, 2010

ended: some time between october 18, 2012 and december 14, 2012 (likely closer to december 14)

this is the original intro to animal jam! it shows liza around the mira statue in jamaa township, where she explains some background lore of jamaa (about mira especially), and some in game functions: moving, changing animal colors, getting achievements, and checking your gems. it's the earliest version of the lore, where "alphas" are called "shamans".

this is the first major change in introduction! the player spawns in on a ship named the blue heron, that is modeled after mira. liza is piloting the ship, and gives you an introduction to jamaa. she introduces you to some in game functions: moving, changing color, checking your gems, and buying from shops. she also gives the option to "Learn about Jamaa's history", via watching the "return of the alphas" cutscene. at the end, the boat pulls in front of jamaa township.

fun fact: this was the only introduction that you could access without making a new account! when this introduction was released, they added an option in the settings to do this tutorial! (shown in the video, i actually couldn't find a video of this tutorial that started from the create an account screen). this option was removed an unknown amount of time later

4. Peck Intro

ended: never 👍 (this is the current intro)

this intro changes the alpha greeting you from liza to peck. the player spawns into a long, forest-y room, and is greeted by peck. she takes you over a bridge to see a bunch of randomly generated animals that are spamming emotes and bubble chat phrases. she introduces you to some in game features: moving, changing color, using emotes, and checking your gems.

fun fact: from november 2016 to march 30, 2017, completing this tutorial would send you to the welcome party, an edited version of the jam session party that has other new jammers whose accounts were just created (if there were any online then....). this party had a singular clothing shop, the same "Clothing Shop" (literally its name) as the one on the blue heron. the end of peck's dialog in the main room is slightly changed to reference this party

BONUS: WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE TUTORIAL?:

after almost all of these intros, you spawn in jamaa township.

at first, completing the original intro would just spawn you in the middle of jamaa township and open up the jamaa journal and daily spin

but then, sometime before october 18, 2012*, the ending was somewhat changed. now it showed the avatar walking from the mira statue area to the middle of the town, and then the player was given this screen:

* why this date specifically? because this video of someone being mean to liza during the intro shows this new ending, and was posted on that date

however, i am almost certain that this was actually implemented on march 1, 2012; because that was the date that the loading screens were changed to their new (and current) format (date gotten from the animal jam wiki)

this end screen stayed for a while, but was minorly changed for the blue heron intro, and stayed that way for the first few years of the peck intro— "explore jamaa" was changed to "go on an adventure":

also, in the blue heron intro you're seen running up from the bottom of jamaa township (from the body of water where the boat dropped you off!). this is kept for the peck intro, although that direction doesn't make as much sense from that one.

when the welcome party existed from november 2016 to march 2017, the peck intro would lead to that party, but then the party had a path leading to jamaa township, in this same fashion. (video of this)

however, once the welcome party left on march 30, 2017, it seems this screen did too. because now, after the tutorial, the player automatically spawns in their den, where peck's den tutorial starts... guess our choice is made for us! (video of this). this date also marked the change in the items that a new jammer has from the get-go: originally new jammers got a sturdy table and a blue rug, but past 3/30/2017, new jammers get a rug, table, small window, chair, couch, lamp, and houseplant

speaking of den tutorials, a brief note:

ever since the peck intro, peck has always done the den tutorial. but i did read somewhere in my research that liza did the den tutorial beforehand— but i haven't found any pictures or videos on it, so you'll just have to take my word on that (if any of you have any pictures or videos of the liza den tutorial, or even a post talking about it, please send it to me!)

Name: Elliott Wiltshire

Personality: A cynical and sadistic man in front of anyone besides his darling or in the face of his works.

Backstory: From a young age, Elliot had a love for film – horror to be more precise. The gorier the better. He wanted to be a screenwriter when he grew up. After reading early scripts he had written, his parents shot down his dreams – disturbed by their child’s craft. They pushed him to take a career path in his hobby; photography.

While booked for a private shoot, tragedy struck resulting in the death of his client – final moments caught by the lens of his camera. He managed to slip away with the footage; a dark reality dawning upon him. It was a gruesome sight; one most films could not replicate. A horrible memorial for this person’s final moments; a new moment in film history. He could be the screenwriter he so longed to be, the director and executioner in the production of his fantasies.

How he views you: You’re the only exception to his personal belief that a person’s true beauty comes in their death. The warmth of your smile is too perfect for a video to give off the same feeling. For you, he is willing to change genre in his film – a romantic thriller the perfect choice. Despite his passions, he’s fine with a normal, movie-perfect life. In a truly perfect dream, you’d be right along with him to create more masterpieces. So long as your heart beats he will remain by your side; waiting for the day you both draw a last breath and he sees you in your final glorious moment.

Personality: A kind, soft spoken individual. She around her darling. Cold at times, she disassociates herself from her sins, but when hard pressed will claim then as her own

Backstory: Raised by a stern business woman and a kind butcher, she grew in a sleepy town. Her father’s affection knew no bounds and her days were filled with smiles; until the accident. While returning home late one evening, a truck collided with their car on his side. Barely conscious, Lee remembers pieces of that day – the sight of her father’s face cracking like porcelain on the steering the only memory that remained.

From that day forth, he was no longer the same. Cold, distant. His face had been permanently disfigured; body withered from the hospital stay. It was like he’d became a different person entirely. Had Lee been older, she may have realized what really happened that day. Her mother, unable to cope, killed him in cold blood and raised Lee in secret.

A burglar breaks into her home one day, making it their hideout. They grow close, enough that the criminal takes off their mask for her to see their face. Her mother kills them as well, the stench of their body in the backyard haunting her. The taste of their dirt covered corpse never fair from her lips. She grew up and became a butcher like her father – keeping her mother’s last words close to heart.

People always hide their true nature behind a mask.

How she sees you: It’s hard at first to understand her feelings. She’s never felt the way she does about you before. An innocent crush that melts into unknown possession. Wants to be there to kiss your wounds and wipe the tears away, especially if she’s the cause.

How he sees you: The star of his show. You’re unlike any human he’s ever seen; shining so bright. Bends the rules of his games ever so slightly for you much to the disapproval of his audience. You won’t end up like them, however. He won’t let you. No, you’re meant to have a permanent spot on the stage. His lovely little co-host for all eternity.

Trivia:

His audience is like a hive mind and not completely under his control. Still calls the shot at the end of the day.

BIO.

while their real name is unknown, you’ve always known them as serpente—as do their enemies. your paths cross often, for they are one of the only other people you know who dare to trek across the abyss. that alone makes them arrogant, cocky in a way that is only explained after meeting them in person, but it’s hard to deny they aren’t good at their job. as their rival in a very niche job, you’d know.

however, despite being each other’s competitors, you’ve come to find the knife at your throat almost comforting; a profession like this is as lonely as it is deadly. for all their salutes and crooked smiles, serpente isn't bad company. though you know they’d protest, with all your encounters, even they can’t deny you know them better than most. it’s why, at the other end of the blade, you sometimes wonder if their deadpan smiles, sarcastic drawls and aloof attitude are simply cover-ups for something else.

APPEARANCE.

serpente has warm tan skin and brown eyes. their short-medium length hair is a dark chestnut brown, wavy and fluffy with volume, matching dark and full eyebrows. they have a noticeable scar across their throat from their first near-death experience, dragging from the top left to the bottom right. their other scars are less visible, but you know they’re there. somewhere. they stand at 6’2.
