sketchy grocery store shit: a very middle-aged rant
Man so. I went to college in Rochester and so I did my first I'm An Adult Shopping For My Own Groceries shopping in a Wegmans. I got used to the way the store works, how things were laid out. And of course, i got a Shopper's Club card.
I still have it somewhere, use it occasionally, but I had to get another one when I misplaced it because they asked what phone number it was tied to and like, man, it was a Rochester number with a 716 area code, that's how long ago it was. (It's 585 there now.)
I got conditioned to try the Wegmans brand generic for whatever brand name thing I was buying, because it was often the same, and was cheaper. (Though, RIP to the old Wegmans box mac n cheese, they enshittified that in 1999 once we were all good and hooked and we all mourned and switched to Annie's and never looked back. Maybe it's better now but I don't rely on that stuff the way I used to.) I got conditioned to always swipe the card because sure they were collecting data on you but in a $70 trip I'd save five bucks easy, it wasn't nothing! And I also learned to look for their Family Packs, which were larger containers of the same item for less per unit-- if it was something not that perishable, or something you could get through, it was worth spending a little more now to stretch it later!
Anyway. I went to Wegmans yesterday, I live in Buffalo now and we have them here too, and we have a rotation of grocery stores we patronize but when I do the shopping, I'm still the most used to Wegmans, I know where stuff is, and I knew some of the stuff I wanted, they'd be the ones to have. (The organic co-op doesn't carry Doritos and sometimes in the doldrums of winter a bitch needs some of that poison, y'know?)
I'd noticed before that the Shoppers Club isn't a savings thing anymore. I didn't have my own card for one visit and the cashier went to great lengths to get me a swipe from a manager, and at the end I'd spent $200 and saved.... fifty cents.
This time around I'd taken advantage of a buy one get one deal to get a second box of something I didn't really need a second box of, only to discover it was buy one get a dollar off the second, so I saved a whole dollar and actually spent three I hadn't needed to. Well, whatever. It's not perishable and I'll eventually go through it.
But the other thing I noticed was the wild price swings by different packaging of the same item. I should've taken pictures. But like-- ok, raw baby spinach. I fucking love spinach. They had a smaller bag and then next to it they had a Family Pack. I hesitated-- it is hard to use up leafy greens but I fucking love spinach and I could make the effort-- and then I looked. I can't do math but fortunately they are required by law to have the price per unit breakdown on every price sticker. Because the small bag of spinach was $1.99, and was $3.99/lb. (A pound of spinach is a lot.) The Family Pack next to it? It was $3.99, which seemed like a good price jump. But on the per-item breakdown, it came out to $7.99/lb. It didn't actually have any more spinach in it. It was just a different-shaped bag and cost more. For no reason. And there was a whole shelf of the larger bags, and only a small display of the smaller ones. They're just expecting people, conditioned like I am, to say "ah i can use more spinach i'll take the savings" and buy the more expensive bag. But I did just do the math (which is difficult for me so you know I'm mad about this) and that is literally the exact same amount of spinach for twice the price.
Similar for stew beef but they went too far with it, it wasn't even plausible. There was a large pack for forty-nine dollars and I didn't even look to see how much was in it because i do not have forty-nine dollars for stew beef, I found a one-pound bag for $8.99. But I had this same issue before, and was more persistent last time I went: you can buy a three-pound chuck roast for $7.99/lb, which is a chunk of change but it's a lot of meat, and cut it into stew beef yourself and save some money that way, but I just knew I did not have it in me this week to cut up yet another chuck roast when I got home. (Full disclosure: i wasn't even looking at the grass-fed organic shit this was just regular USDA whatever Meets Regulations And Is Legal To Sell shit.)
Stew beef is supposed to be the trimmings and it is supposed to be cheap. But they have realized people prefer it, more recipes call for it because it was historically cheaper, and so they have marked it up and it is more expensive than the whole roast. Because most cooks reading a recipe are not going to necessarily know why it calls for stew beef and that they could substitute a superior cut if the price wasn't good.
I am aware that buying the pre-marinated individual convenience cuts is historically where they make their profit and I don't begrudge them that; if that's what I was shopping for I would not be that mad about paying $7 for three cents worth of marinade ingredients, because it is much easier to cook something like that with the attached recipe and because a lot of the markup is the labor costs in putting all that shit together. I don't begrudge them that at all and when I'm paying for it I'm well aware that I am.
But I really do resent how much of the price-gouging is happening by abusing the patterns of behavior they conditioned us into. I learned, twenty years ago, to look for the deals and look for the bulk packs, and now I am being punished for having learned that. I don't mind paying a premium for something I know is a convenience fee, but being charged extra for my formerly-thrifty shopping habits really stings. I shouldn't have to exercise constant vigilance in the fucking grocery store, it's stressful enough to be the only masked person in there and now you have to compete with the huge carts they use for the online ordering peeps that take up a lot of the aisle.
Maybe it's easier to do the price comparisons on the website?
Oh and there are a number of products they now only carry the Wegmans generic for. (You can't get Snyder pretzel bites anymore, and the Wegmans version doesn't come in quite the same flavors, so I have to go to Dash's to get those now.) And still others where the Wegmans version is pricier. And, alas, some where the more expensive Wegmans version is better. (Polly-O string cheese, why are you so bland?? You're a snack baby. The Wegmans generic has salt in it and is a ton more pleasant to eat.)
IDK I don't have a thesis here it's just that being alive in the 2020s is way harder than being alive in the 2000s even though I was poorer then and didn't know shit. I don't miss my youth and I super don't miss George W Bush but I miss when I was figuring stuff out and it seemed to make sense. And I sorta miss when the Wegmans cashiers used to wear t-shirts bragging about how highly-ranked Wegmans was by whatever organization that was that ranked how good places are to work for.
Also, they try to steer you to use the self checkouts, but baby if you have more than two shopping bags' worth of stuff in your cart you had better wait in however long that line is to let a real human put it into bags for you because the self-checkout does not have any mechanism for you to remove and replace a full shopping bag from the bagging area. I told the cashier how much I appreciated him because he wasn't screaming at me, and he was like yah those self-checkouts yell at you a lot.
(Every Wegmans cashier for twenty years has been super nice. I doubt they're in a union, I wish they were.)
Yeah yeah this is the most middle-aged thing I've written yet but I'm in physical therapy and just bought a recliner for the ergonomics so I'm clearly grappling with my own mortality here, and I'm writing this partly out of concern for the kids who are where I was in 2000. What the hell are they being conditioned to do, by all this????? Shit, man.

limited life was the best roleplay series for me by far. everyone was just so good at playing into people's bits. the improvised nature of it made it so fun, and barring the odd moment, it truly didn't feel like people were starting much drama for drama's sake.
the best of the rp was fairly spontaneous--scar didn't go into a series planning to become cleo's favourite son, but they just had such a good time being around each other and leaned into the dynamic and extrapolated their rp from how they were around each other. and it really payed off. i'm sooo glad cleo embraced it even though she was reluctant at first. i love how scar and bdubs supported her into her own amazing interpretation of arguably a not-so-fun role. i'm stunned at how into the rp etho got. he absolutely suffered for this rp and it was incredible. all those deaths. his destroyed reputation! but it worked so well.
and the bad boys! sure, joel came in with his predetermined character, but his flexibility in bringing people onto his team, into incorporating jimmy and grian and even offering to rename the bit for pearl if she'd joined--that was what really allowed it to be good. leaning into the ironic bad boys who aren't actually bad (at anything but minecraft) was delightful. bread bridge was wonderful. seeing all the players just get to be so very themselves and enjoy themselves and work as a team while having so much fun with the rp aspect made this team so good.
i loved that we didn't get solo players this season, that martyn and scott teamed up even when they didn't interact much in episode one. coral kids and TIES really felt like everyone was playing not just with their friends, but with the people who played the game in the same way they did. i can't put my finger on what made martyn and scott a good fit together but they are, and ties were the perfect little "nerds" (as scar called them) with so much heart, while etho still got to do his weird thing with bdubs and roleplay with the clockers. and the tension between all these groups! scott and cleo's hard alliance and the rest of the clockers just following along because mom. ties animosity with the clockers despite whatever it was etho was doing. they just let bdubs tag along for the day! etho had a take his kids to work day and it was hilarious! and martyn sticking to scott but also kinda being sketchy in the background with everyone, showing a pleasant face but clearly not being quite as invested in all the relationships as everyone else, which then played into the ending where he betrayed his partner in the series where team bonds were never broken--
and while i wish pearl and bigb had got to be a bit more involved in the storylines and they were a little sidelined from some of the best action, by god they played their nosey neighbour role well. the tension with the clockers, the feud with jimmy, stealing the enchanting table, finding themselves so isolated and alone because they're just neighbours and they built a wall between them and the server. perfection.
so yeah. loved how everyone was enjoying themselves. loved how rp got to flourish in the peaceful periods and how the high death limit played into the drama. loved that everyone mostly just went with the flow and the narratives became so fun because of it. *chefs kiss*

Maybe this is a stretch driven by my hope for siuaraine, but I wonder if the final scene between Suian and Moiraine went the way it did because Suian thinks Moiraine might have turned to the dark
"You lied to me about being stilled."
My eyebrows shot up when I heard that line, bc that's a big deal accusation for an Aes Sedai. And parallels nicely with Alanna and co. accusing Lan of being a darkfriend last episode
Which I know some people hated, but the thing is, Lan and Moiraine have kind of been acting super sketchy, if you don't know the things we know
Like, from Siuan's pov: Lan shows up and tells her Moiraine has been stilled, which in MONTHS of letters, Moiraine never mentioned. Siuan is horrified that happened, has got to be terrified that Moiraine is going to kill herself, and is also lost and hurt and baffled that Moiraine would hide this from her
Like, that omission was a HUGE DEAL, relationship wise. Not a good move keeping something that important from your wife, especially when they were plotting together and it would be 100% reasonable and probably also a good move for Moiraine to turn to Siuan for help
And going back to Siuan's pov, she's dealing with ALL THAT, plus the Dragon, which is another thing she and Moiraine (seem to be?) at odds about
There's darkfriends in the Tower
Moiraine has been hiding something from her
Moiraine has been stilled
The town they're in is assaulted and set on fire
Someone has broken the Dragon out of the White Tower's custody
And when Siuan goes to try to, presumably, get him back, what happens?
She turns the corner and finds Moiraine, Lan, and Rand standing there, alone, in front of a waygate that MOIRAINE JUST OPENED
And I'm sure that normally, this wouldn't make Siuan worry about Moiraine's loyalties, but...she just found out the love of her life was stilled and then spent six months completely failing to tell her about it
Who wouldn't be shaken? Who wouldn't already be asking "If she hid something as big as THIS from me, what else could she be hiding?"
And then she shows up and Moiraine has just used the One Power to open a waygate
Earlier in the episode, when she finds out Moiraine has been stilled (well, close enough), what she says is something like "Six months of letters, and not a single word about that." The very common Aes Sedai route of lying by omission
When she shows up at the Waygate, she says "You lied to me about being stilled."
Siuan thinks Moiraine was able to break one of the oaths. Which Moiraine could only do if she'd sworn herself to the Dark.
And as Lan establishes, the idea of tying off a weave and leaving it in place is so not a thing anymore, it's barely even the stuff of legends. Why would Siuan think that's on the list of possibilities? Especially in such an overwhelming and emotionally fraught and literally things are on fire moment?
And all Moiraine says in response (in her defense there are a lot of things going on) is "I can't"
Which, yeah, Siuan knows that is (supposed to be) the case
And THEN, fucking Lanfear shows up, gets pretty easily talked into not killing Moiraine by Rand, and then Moiraine and Lan follow Lanfear and Rand through the waygate without a word
I think it would be 100% reasonable, actually, for Siuan to suspect that Moiraine is a darkfriend after all of that, and given what she knows
So much of Moiraine's life has been out of Siuan's view, for like 20 years now. So much could've happened
And now Moiraine is using the One Power even after she told everyone that she was stilled
Kind of a guilty look actually!!!
(If this is what they're doing though they definitely should've been more clear/explicit/developed with the setup, tho. But otherwise I think it's really interesting as a potential plot point!)

‼️ creep 2014 spoilers ‼️ everyone complaining abt aaron's actions being stupid is 1000% missing the point bc .
. bc knowing in retrospect that josef was fully actively plotting to kill aaron from the moment he saw him it becomes pointless to question and nitpick everything aaron did. bc like he literally never does anything that hurts his case. he's never in a position where josef couldn't/wouldn't kill him and then he did something stupid and then josef became able to kill him.
yeah sure aaron isn't just nice he's overly trusting and accommodating and gives josef the benefit of the doubt far beyond what he's earned, to the point where you kinda wonder how he's gotten this far in life. but on the other hand being empathetic and believing what others tell you abt themselves and trying to see the best in them is . generally a good thing and something that will make people value you . and for what it's worth it's this very quality that makes josef genuinely like aaron and a little hesitant+regretful abt actually killing him.
like 'it seemed stupid that you wouldn't look behind you. but then i realized you're a good person and believed i would do you no harm' you don't need to question aaron's behaviour at the end they. they do that for you in the movie. and so yeah it seems aaron goes to the lake believing that josef doesn't really intend to seriously harm him. maybe that belief wasn't totally rational based on what we've seen. but yknow on the one hand any of the people in your life could be plotting to harm you. and on the other hand our feelings and beliefs aren't based just on logical analysis of the evidence. like what i'm saying is
-on the one hand
aaron's only real 'mistake' is he goes to josef's house assuming josef is not a serial killer. and sure the job is a little sketchy but that's still a reasonable assumption. like the fact is, random strangers, creeps, people who have hurt you, they're all usually not serial killers. it doesn't pay, yknow basically all of the time, to assume that the people around you are serial killers. and this has already doomed aaron just as the film begins.
also like it's very easy to imagine a version of this movie where aaron takes way more safety precautions and i envision it being a more boring movie but i don't envision it being a movie that makes me feel safe and secure bc it's very easy to imagine him doing that and still dying. maybe his friends or the police end up with more evidence they could use to catch josef but that doesn't really help aaron. like it wouldn't be very useful if he had told someone where he was going or had them checking in with him but josef just murdered him as soon as he got there. but yknow josef doesn't murder him at the cabin at all. like you're left with the knowledge that josef was thinking abt killing aaron the entire time and could have killed him in pretty much any frame of the film and was just choosing not to bc it was more fun for him. so like this movie made me feel fuckin unsafe. the ending really puts it in perspective that like cautious or not if some rando decided they really wanted to kill you. they could. they could murder you anytime, anywhere. is it more likely josef's murdered dozens of the dumbest motherfuckers on earth or that he was able to kill them simply bc they didn't know in advance he was a serial killer. yeah josef wants to kill aaron back at the lake just as he likes toying with people and forming weird relationships with them before killing them and likes to have their interactions filmed but by the time josef's sending the last tape .. if aaron didn't come he probably would've just . broken into his house and murdered him anyway right.
(side note it's the exact same people complaining it doesn't make sense aaron would keep filming as he's answering the phone / trying to escape. ??? he was already filming it's literally more effort for him to turn the camera off than not also you're trapped with someone you've come to believe is dangerous why Wouldn't you keep filming?? like as a deterrent / so you at least have evidence if something does go down)
-on the other hand
where does aaron's belief in josef come from? this is not really a mystery. when we leave the cabin and start watching josef's videos on aaron's tv there is certainly this sense that aaron is not even nominally in control of the narrative anymore, this sense of like, this thing has come out of the woods and the darkness and followed aaron and yknow it's in his house now. might not have been intentional but aaron's yellow shirt in the first scene after the cabin reminded me of his car and the yellow door that's featured strangely prominently at the beginning too - like, we're travelling, we're entering a new house, aaron's house, aaron's own reality, this evil is inside aaron as well now.
aaron admits josef has gotten into his head. he groans 'i gotta stop thinking about this guy' more like josef's an off-limits crush than a stalker. indeed josef has gotten into his head more than he even realizes, in the sense that he believes the emotions josef expressed to him. as much as he believes josef could be dangerous, and despite the evidence he can't trust what josef says, he also believes josef's loneliness and pain and desire for connection. josef has gotten to him. and i don't find that terribly unrealistic bc as a viewer mark duplass gives an amazing performance and he's super fun to watch and ofc we're seeing the character in a different light than aaron is but josef Does kinda get to you. aaron is indeed stupid but also i do kinda understand why he didn't just run away and might've seen something to care abt in josef.
also imean to my mind aaron's actions are due not only to stupidity and empathy but Also his attraction to josef. however, random commenters and critics alike seem determined to ignore the sexual aspect of this movie even though it's not exactly subtext. well hopefully for josef's part it goes without saying. as for aaron... we see just as he does the way josef is pretty much coming onto him, the way josef loves him and really likes hugging him, that by the end of the day it's pretty clear josef has a sexual interest in him and that he openly expresses his romantic feelings in the tapes (he uses the word friendship but uh we know what kinda 'friend'ship he's talkin abt) - i think the easiness with which aaron accepts all this makes Way more sense if he's also bi and josef isn't totally off the table for him either. admittedly that's speculation and to speculate some more isn't it possible that even while being creeped out by it aaron likes that josef likes him? after all the movie starts with him half-joking about the client being an older woman who just wants a boy to give money and rubdowns to and in a way that's not so far off from what he gets... and ends with him going 'how can i not go he's so sad... you got me'... maybe aaron is drawn to josef bc josef appears to want him and to need the kinda emotional support he's apparently very willing to give. mark duplass even said as much in an interview which ikno is Not part of the movie But this interpretation doesn't seem more unlikely than aaron simply being the stupidest person to ever live to adulthood which is also just an assumption audiences are making.
in any case what is NOT speculation is that aaron decides things aren't over with him and josef Not bc josef sent him a video but rather bc he's having dreams abt him. i'm not so sure there's any peachfuzz in aaron there's probably no part of him that's a murderer but there is a part of him, perhaps subconscious, that's intrigued by josef's fucked up shit and is exploring putting himself within this weird, undoubtedly sexual, fetish framework that josef outlined for them at the cabin. josef's weird sexuality has gotten to aaron as well. iknowikno the author is dead and everything but it is actually inconceivable to me that the filmmakers didn't intend the two dream-sequence-descriptions to be read as attraction on aaron's part. like the second one do i even need to say. maybe they're also there to suggest that aaron has a feeling of complicity with/protectiveness towards josef and his weird wolf shit as well. this is clearly backed up by his call to the police where he says he wants to report 'a violent domestic incident and stalker.' not that he deserves to not be taken seriously but this is probably most of the reason the cops don't take him seriously bc it sounds like he's talking abt a guy he hooked up with. he could have said assault or kidnapping or anything but he said domestic incident. the only thing this term means to me and indeed the only relevant thing it means to google is violence within the home/within a relationship, usually between intimate partners. SO either he's thinking of josef as someone he potentially could be / is in a relationship with, maybe without even realizing it, or he wants to make what happened between him and josef sound less weird, make josef sound less predatory, kinda suggesting they were consensually hanging out instead of . josef luring him to a remote location and attempting to kidnap him. why doesn't he tell the cops he has video of josef? why does he immediately get defensive and hang up instead of trying to explain where he's coming from, which seems out of character for him? perhaps the stress of the moment, perhaps stupidity, or maybe, again even without realizing it, he doesn't want anyone else to see the tapes.
while i don't think aaron's feelings for josef affect his ultimate fate that much i also don't view it as totally incidental - these things make aaron more of a character in his own right, suggest an understandable motive for some of his actions and show that josef accomplishes his goal of insidiously getting into aaron's life and mind before killing him which itself adds another intriguing and unsettling dimension to the film . and it makes ya think. what if i somehow got killed for being horny for mark duplass in creep 2014.

Will you ever draw papa bull and duke together as a comparison of what they look like? I’m genuinely curious to see duke in your artstyle.
sure thing! i was already working on a drawing anyway, so any excuse to exercise a quick sketch never hurts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
—all rights reserved to @monstrouslyobsessed, the beastfolk characters, papa bull and duke for character design sketch, with a bonus doodle of dorothy fawning over devon with her faceless spouse and child (being held by the bulls' darling in a very vague appearance) in the background with some random expression tests and two babies, devon and dorothy's still-nameless baby.
additional details/ramblings under the cut.
im not really too good with drawing furries so they probably look pretty awkward. anyway, yeah, you can tell there's a lot of resemblances between duke and papa bull. i actually copied and mirrored on purpose and just changed certain details (mainly age and fashion sense).
i tried to make papa bull to look softer, kinder, in his eyes, while it's harder to interpret with duke, other than him being a bit awkward.
they all do have hair tho! a bit more mullet-like, i suppose, but i don't think they can help that considering how their anatomy works (and i'm somewhat trying to keep true to the irl animals as well so there's not really any 'rainbow anime gravity defying' hair going on there). papa bull have a bit more hair than duke, since he had a beard whileas duke doesn't.
if you noticed that duke didn't have the nose ring, good eye! i figured it's a specific species cultural factor, that the head of the family has it (regardless of the gender).
they're actually supposed to be darker, closer to black, but i also wanted to show the wrinkles and other finer details in their looks thus the brown. i...think i might like them better that way, but eh.
as for dorothy, she adore kids regardless of who or what they are. she's always happy to see the little devon and fawn on them lol i kind of tried to keep her to look like a (summery) farm girl, with a lot of body confidence in herself, but it's pretty sketchy so i don't think thats obvious. she's a big, happy gal though.
yes, i just wanna doodle her lol
if you're having troubles reading the text because my handwriting is crappy, i gotchu
"hoovedfolk babies are so heavy..." "i can hold them?" --Dorothy, who traded babies for a minute --Devon, in dino onesie
thats about it for my nonsense, hope my doodles are passable?

Hello my love! I love the way you write Frank (AND Matt, but im in a Frank mood tonight). I’m not sure if you’re taking requests rn, but if you are, I love to submit one!! Tbh I’m so sick of how douchey guys are these days on apps, and the “oh you just wanted a free meal” behavior and dating rn is the fucking worst. What’s your take on a situation where you’re friends with Frank and you complain about how badly men behave these days, and he offers to take you on a real date and treat you right? Bc I could use a Frank to rescue me and treat me right rn 😫
hello my darling! thank you so much, omg. you're too kind🥺
ok first of all when I say you are PREACHING to the damn CHOIR !!! I tried a few dating apps and I loathed every single one of them. straight up was not having a good time. it was an absolute travesty, so I feel for you so hard right now angel.
this is my first time doing a headcannon so this is super exciting and i'm happy we get to do this together!! because you absolutely DESERVE a frankie to rescue you and treat you right because you are a goddamn CATCH you are a GLOWING GODDESS and anyone should be so heckin LUCKY as to go on a date with you ❤️
headcannon is going to be below the cut bc y'all know I get carried away, especially with my baby frankie
frank castle & dating apps
first things first: frank castle is very old fashioned, so the idea of a dating app probably not only confuses the fuck out of him but also makes him grimace. like the man without a doubt hates texting, preferring an actual phone call instead, and most likely comes up with a million different threats to your security and worst case scenarios when you teach him about online dating
"don't you wanna meet someone the old fashioned way? how can you tell they're not a complete asshole just by a picture and a few words? what if they ain't who they say they are? you still got that knife I gave ya?"
frank already made you share your location with him a long time ago for safety reasons but now makes you text him the address of wherever it is you're going on these "dates" as well as check in with him every hour
he would probably be adamant about coming with you and sitting in a corner somewhere so he could keep an eye on you but you quickly shot that down bc it's frank and he's very hard to miss and you would have a hard time explaining to your date why that big guy across the room looks like he's seconds away from committing murder (you know exactly which look i'm talking about)
frank requests you send him a picture of whatever guy you're meeting just in case he needs to hunt him down find him if you don't check in or something happens, and never hesitates to offer a look of utter disdain and merciless judgment when you finally send it
"really? you're goin' on a date with this? the options on them apps that goddamn bad, sweetheart?"
frank is extremely shameless in verbally eviscerating every single guy you show him or tell him about and never misses an opportunity to make his opinions known
one night you storm into his apartment without knocking (a common occurrence he's finally gotten used to) and plop down next to him on the couch with a glass a wine (he made a mental note to keep the kind you like on hand at all times) and start to vent about your latest disaster date
the guy made you drive nearly an hour out of your way to meet him at a sketchy dive bar, spent the whole night talking about himself and cutting you off every time you spoke, and then had the AUDACITY to ask you to cover the tab because he "forgot" his wallet at home (this actually happened to me once)
frank can't take it anymore. this online dating thing has been going on for months and every time you vent to him about these assholes, it gets harder and harder for him to control his feelings for you because he's supposed to be your friend and the guys you've been going out with look nothing like him and as much as he wants to be with you, he's scared to ruin the one good thing he has. so, frank hatches a plan
"alright, I can't take this shit anymore. don't make plans friday night. we're goin' out."
he says it so nonchalantly, you almost don't catch what he means. you splutter out your wine, staring over at frank because there's no way he just asked you out on a date??? frank catches your look and offers a timid smile, reaching over to squeeze your knee gently
"relax. i'm just gonna show you what a real date should be like. you've been on so many shitty ones, I don't even know if you know what a good one is. let me help you raise your standards a bit."
let me tell you something, frank castle knows a thing or two about romance. this man goes ALL OUT. picking you up at your door (on time, early even), flowers in hand (your favorites bc he actually listens when you talk), is the most dressed up you've ever seen him (it's a dress shirt and jeans but he's usually covered in blood so), opens all the doors for you and pulls out your chair, takes you to a restaurant he knew you would love bc he knows your favorite dish & dessert, spends the whole night asking you questions about things he's always wanted to know about you, makes you laugh with silly jokes and stories, and tells you several times throughout the night how beautiful he thinks you look
you've always had a crush on frank (how could you not honestly) so you were a nervous wreck about the whole thing and what it meant for your friendship and if he was just doing this to be nice because he felt sorry for you or if he actually liked you back
but the date is not only the best one you've ever been on but also the easiest because it's frank and he's your best friend and you've never felt more comfortable or at ease with someone and when the check comes it makes your heart sink because you never want this date to end, even if it isn't real
the entire walk back to your apartment there's a palpable nervous energy between the two of you and his hands are in his pockets but you desperately wish they were holding yours and when you stop at your door there's a million thoughts racing through your head that you wanna say but the look in frank's eyes steals the oxygen straight out of your lungs
"listen I uh...know I said this was just to show you how a real date should be and what not, and I did mean that but...I really just wanted to show you how you should be treated ya'know. how...how I would treat you, if you'd let me. i'd give you the goddamn world if you asked, sweetheart. I don't know if I read tonight wrong, but I know I could be the right man for you, and I think you know that too. at least, I hope you do. there's nothin' I wouldn't do for you, honey. I understand if you don't feel the same way-"
you don't even let frank finish that sentence before you're dragging him down by his collar and crashing your lips together because holy shit frank, your frank, wants you just as much as you want him
needless to say you invite him up and show him just how much you want him despite his weak attempt at trying to continue to be a gentleman
"sweetheart, we can take it slow. I don't mind-" "frank I swear to god if you don't take your pants off right now, i'm never kissing you again." "yes ma'am."

Could you recommend sources about sanguinarian vampirism? I tried to look for it but most recommend books seem to be published by sketchy/charlatan authors and it makes doubtful if they are genuine or not (besides some of them have very prejudiced views towards sang).
Videos, podcasts, articles, sites or books are all welcome recommendations and I would be very grateful if you had them.
Thank you very much!
(Sorry for how long it took for me to get back to you, the past few weeks have been hectic to say the least, but I've been thinkin about this ask since you sent it) My main issue with the vast majority of content on sanguinarian vampirism out there is that it is made by people who are just interested in vampires, and have no actual experience living through the things we live through. They often times come off as halloween-spooky, and inauthentic, with an emphasis on shock factor for an audience that doesn't understand that we really do actually exist.
Books are definitely not the place to look from my experience if you're interested in learning about sanguinarian vampirism. They are one of the best places if you're wanting to learn about psychic vampirism or vampiric witchcraft, but they're not for the blood drinkers.
Videos can be good learning material, but I haven't seen any on sanguinarianism that aren't just people talking about their experiences in the community, and it can get fairly full of unnecessary drama and zero useful info quick. I used to watch videos from the creator below, though I personally didn't get much out of them, but that may not be the case for you. Most of the videos are on psychic vampirism, but there are a few on sanguinarianism if I'm remembering correctly.
With Podcasts, I'm sure there are a number of one offs on paranormal podcasts if you look hard enough, but the time is most likely not worth it. The link below is one of the best I have seen, a series of great interviews with real vampires (I was lucky enough to be one of them, though that's not why I suggest this series), and the second is a youtube channel called Coffin Lounge (I would link, but youtube is being weird), which could be good, but I don't now yet. I have only listened to a little bit of the first episode, and it is more goth community centered than vamp, but there may be good stuff since since each episode is with a new guest.
Sites are the best bet so far, with forums being one of the best places to look imo.
Sanguinarius.org and their connected forum, VCMB.org were where I first realized I wasn't alone, and wasn't crazy. The biggest benefit of forums like this one, is that you are, without a doubt, listening to real people's experience, and seeing real vamps figure it out for themselves. There is so much information in the VCMB, even though it isn't very active anymore, the experiences are still there.
theredcellar.com has also been a personal favourite for ages. It is full of plenty of articles that focus on the medsang perspective, and it is home to some really down to earth vamps who are all wonderful. They also have a forum, as well as a discord that is linked on their site.
The absolute best teachers, however, are just regular old vampires. You will learn more in a few hours than you could hope to learn in months from articles and the sporadic info online by sending someone a message and asking if they have the capacity to answer your questions. Whether you are an awakening vamp looking for advice, or just interested in the real, visceral experience that vampires live through, most are kind and willing to share. Everyone's experience is different, and speaking to multiple people will help you realize just how colourful and varied the world of vampirism is.
And if you are a vampire, I know that this is cliché, but experience is a great teacher. So much of vampirism, from what I've seen and experienced myself, is about trying to run away from the vampiric experience, and be as human as possible. It has stopped being about that for me. Manage your health of course, and don't go without feeding for too long if you can help it. Take the substitutes you need to take to control the beast when you need to take them, but feeling those cravings instead of fleeing from them is a great way to become more familiar with vampirism. No one will be able to tell you more about your vampirism than yourself. Learn to meditate in those moments of hunger. You are a vampire, it's ok to allow yourself to be just that from time to time.
I hope this was helpful! Please feel free to ask if you have any more questions, I'm more than happy to help if you feel that I can :)

[slides seductively onto a piano] hello if you're open to talking blorbos may i request your fave shockop headcanons
Hello, yes, sorry I asked for questions about my blorbos and then didn't answer for like a week, I was busy playing TOTK until I forgot my own name and doing other stuff, but thank you so much!!
My favorite thing about shockop is this extremely weird relationship dynamic they have going. Like, Orion is driven by his desire to do good and help people, but has realized that what he understood was good isn't necessarily, so now he's cashing on Shockwave to show him the way, and Shockwave is so hot and talks the talk so good, Orion has unshakeable faith in him.
Like, Shockwave modified his body without asking (and I hc Cybertronians have a weak sense of bodily autonomy but still), keeps a bunch of stuff to himself and is generally very sketchy, but Orion is 100% behind of whatever he says. Hell, Orion doesn't want to be Prime, he never talks about it, we only know he knows that's what Shockwave wants bc Roller bring it up, and Orion is seemingly okay with ruling the fucking planet if that's what Shockwave thinks is best.
But that's the things, despite having him on a leash, Shockwave's plan involved making Orion Supreme Ruler because he thinks Orion could use that power wisely. And Orion is actually capable of imposing his will on Shockwave, which he only does to get Shockwave to stay put during Shadowplay for his own sake, which is SUCH an OP thing to do.
There is a great deal of mutual idolization going on. They are people will similar morals which may not be all that great. There's something very sinester underneath it all despite the fact that they genuinely meant good and genuinely care for each other. Tho a part of that caring is caring about the good they can do for Cybertron rather than for each other as people.
Not that they don't care for each other as people, they're obsessed with each other, it's just kind of a loop. But yeah, Shockwave is so obsessed with OP that even after 4 million years of Shadowplay and 12 million years of going insane, he still wants Optimus to join him and will go out of his way to try to make him see his point even if that's of no benefit to his plans.
God, JRo introduced this weirdly ambiguous sketchy relationship and then Barber doubled down on that and I owe them my life. Great work, guys! I'm not really interested is pure fluffly wholesome shockop, these guys are insane.
I suppose that's not a headcanon so much as a reading, but uh, I'm not good which such open questions. Anyway, a more straightforward headcanon is about this scene
Tumblr media
This would be their first time meeting after Shockwave joins the Cons and after the flashbacks of exRID #17. The reason the dialogue is so impersonal here is ofc, because Autocracy was written before Shadowplay and so before the mysterious Senator was established to be Shockwave, But my headcanon of what's going on is that the last time Orion tried to talk to Shockwave he tries to appeal to who he was and their relationship and got nothing. So he decided to try the opposite and treat Shockwave like a random Decepticons thinking that his Shockwave was so vain he would hate Orion acting like he's nobody to him and that would surely get a reaction. At least something like "This isn't the first time I've saved your life" but he still got nothing :(

Hello, can I ask from this ask game :
https://www.tumblr.com/threecheersforinking/677824836625694720/anime-ask-game?source=share
For anime/manga : Sk8, Demon Slayer, BNHA, and Jujutsu Kaisen.
Thanks 🌻
I guess so, Anon! 😆
**
SK8 THE INFINITY 🛹
Favorite Character: Reki, hands down it's Reki. He's just such a great character to me, honestly a little bit of relatable (both as someone who isn't sure of themselves and having siblings).
Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: The beach episode is definitely my favorite episode. But I gotta say the epilogue scene he has with his family is one of my favorite scenes because it's so damn cute!
Favorite Ship/Pairing: Reki/Langa is my favorite! They're just so cute!
Character I Think is Underrated: Oka is one, Sketchy is another. But a really underrated character? Miki. She's the green haired woman seen in the first episode. Made a post about how she should be a more major SK8 character. I like her design very much and I just think she should be a bigger part of the cast as a skater.
Character I Think is Overrated: Ooh, it's like most of the main cast... Reki is definitely one, Langa is one, too... Shadow is more underrated though... but it's definitely Joe and Cherry!
Something I Love About the Show/Movie: What mostly drawn me in to the show was the vibrant colors. I love colors and the aesthetic of the show is a bonus to me. Also, I love that Reki isn't like some big shot protagonist where he can outskate everyone and anybody. Really like it took an opposite approach, and hone in that he was the more creative type.
**
DEMON SLAYER 🗡
Favorite Character: Tanjiro! He is just so precious, kind and badass! (And it will always gets me how he got that hard ass forehead he got from his mom.)
Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: Just any time he interacts with Nezuko will always touch my heart. One scene I adore a lot is from the Swordsmith Village arc when Tanjiro braids her hair to mimic Mitsuri's style. It was just too cute. Ooh, but overall my favorite arc so far has to be the Entertainment District arc. Gyutaro and Daki actually became my favorite antagonists because of that arc. And the opening for that arc in the anime is one of my favorite songs.
Favorite Ship/Pairing: I actually had to stop and think for this one. "Do I have a favorite ship here?" Okay, I gotta admit Tengen with his wives are cute. (Watching the anime in dub though becomes something else when you also watch JJK in dub and realize Sukuna and Uraume are married here.)
Character I Think is Underrated: Hmm... I wanna say Mitsuri for this one. Every since the Swordsmith Village arc came out, everywhere I turn there's some video on how Muichiro put in work in his fight scenes, and he did. I applaud that precious little misty guy. But I don't see a lot or even a little praise for Mitsuri and she was whipping that sword!! If anything, that is very impressive that she has a sword like that!!
Character I Think is Overrated: Ah... I gotta say it's tie between Uzui and Rengoku. But before anyone gets on my ass, I do adore both characters very much. (Remember seeing a post that had the absolute nerve to put Rengoku on the list of "frauds".)
Something I Love About the Show/Movie: That anime definitely deserved the animation award. But for me, it's definitely the character designs. The art style makes those designs pop and a lot of the way the characters look pleases me. Like the demons? They don't look like your average demons. One of the reasons why Tanjiro is my favorite is because of his character design.
**
MY HERO ACADEMIA ✨️
Favorite Character: If you have been following since forever, you already know I'm going to say my favorite two are Miruko and Midoriya. They're both my #1s.
Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: The first half of Miruko's episode. I'll be honest... while I do like Kaminari, every time I rewatch that episode I just watch the Miruko parts. Another episode I really like is the dorm episode because it's mostly like a feel-good episode for me.
Favorite Ship/Pairing: It's Burnin/Miruko for me. "They haven't inter---" Ah! I am allowed to ship characters who haven't interacted and I adore them. Right now, they are my top ship.
Character I Think is Underrated: A lot of them. 😭 First person that comes to mind is Rock Lock. I would question, too, why kids are at a meeting about a dangerous situation. He's a husband and a dad and he loves his family! Of course, he would ask that!
Character I Think is Overrated: In-Universe, Hawks. I'm sorry, but every time there is a scene that showcases how he has many fans I just make this face 😐. He's like that famous gut almost everyone and their mama loves but you are just like "... what's so great about him". I mean, I get it, I do and I like Hawks. But... Also by the fandom, other than Hawks, Dabi and Bakugou. I feel like I don't have to explain here. Again, characters I like, but they are overrated. "But, Kiya, you like Midoriya!" I do! And I don't know if there is another popularity poll coming up, but if he doesn't get #1 on that I will scream. Come on, 9th poll? He is the 9th OFA user?
Something I Love About the Show/Movie: Definitely the range of quirks here. Some quirks, Horikoshi definitely got creative with. Also, say what you want, I like how some of the common tropes are here, but not exactly. Weird thing to be happy about, but I was happy I had to guess who the protagonist was because Midoriya didn't look like the typical one. (I didn't watch the first season first.)
**
JUJUTSU KAISEN 😈
Favorite Character: Yuji Itadori! He is my sunshine! Also a little feral and will take your kneecaps. Like Midoriya, I find he's not really the typical protagonist. He has some traits, but others you don't see too often in protagonists.
Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: I do like the Shibuya Incident and Culling Game Arcs. Personally, for me, and yes I'm a little bias, my favorite scenes are those with Yuji. My favorite fight scene is his fight against Choso. Now, for the Culling Game Arc, I really enjoyed the fight between Uro, Ryu and Yuta. Mostly because Uro was the best character for me there. But fight scenes aside, I gotta say that other scenes I enjoy are those scenes Yuji has with Megumi and Nobara.
Favorite Ship/Pairing: ItaFushi is the first ship I got into! It's just... it makes me want to cry. Also, NobaMaki! Oh my gosh, that scene they have after the small confrontation with Mai? Love that scene!!
Character I Think is Underrated: The Kyoto students as a whole. My favorite out the bunch is Kasumi Miwa. She's just so silly, kind and come on. I know she says she's frightened at times, but she's also really brave to still fight. I admire that.
Character I Think is Overrated: Once season 2 came, I swear Toji has been a favorite almost overnight! Don't blame the fans, of course. And, no surprise, Gojo and Sukuna.
Something I Love About the Show/Movie: If I need a story to break my heart, I know I can just look to JJK! And I mean not in a dramatic way, I mean like "I'm watching a horror movie and the character I hot attached to too fast dies". Okay, for real though, one of the strongest points for me is the characters. I find a lot of the characters entertaining and intriguing. Even if it's a character I don't practically like. When it comes to the characters, I actually don't get bored of them. There's probably a couple I don't really care for. Also, unpopular opinion, I do like Akutami's art style from the beginning and to end. The style before has this charm to it I just like and it's the same for the style now.

which bobbi morse comic runs r ur fave? :-)
I’m not going to claim to be The authority on Bobbi or anything (that would be @ootcs, who probably has an infinitely better list), I started doing a chronological completionist read of Bobbi’s 616 appearances a while back that I need to get back to, but she’s super fun even in the 70s when she’s stuck in some boring Ka-Zar comics.
The unfortunate thing about Bobbi is that she only has the one solo run (which has problems despite the fact that the first few issues are solid), and a lot of her stories are tied to Clint. Part of why I'm always complaining about Bobbi being excluded from modern comics is because we've already lost so much time with her; she was dead for 15 years of publication time.
(I told myself I was going to make a neat little list but I can't stop myself from making my little comments on everything.)
New Avengers: The Reunion, Hawkeye & Mockingbird, Widowmaker: These three series were all made by the same creative team, McCann/Lopez, and they were also my first introduction to comics altogether. They're very focused on her and Clint's 616 history, but I don't remember having any problems understanding it? Bobbi is dealing with a lot of trauma here, but she starts up her own spy agency and her costume is perfect. Also Lopez draws the buffest Bobbi, which is wild because this is all before she gets the supersoldier serum. They also have a D-story in a one-shot called Enter the Heroic Age, that is like peak Clint/Bobbi battle couple dynamics. (I'm listing these first because it was my entry point but everything after this is chronological).
Hawkeye vol.1: this is secretly Bobbi's solo. I love her here and I love Gruenwald's decision to bring her into Clint's life. She's fun and impulsive in her own way and just an all-around proactive character, whether that's taking down this sketchy security firm or macking on Clint ten minutes after her apartment exploded.
West Coast Avengers vol. 1: I love Bobbi's dynamic on teams, I wish we saw more of it in modern comics. Sure, Clint's the official leader but Bobbi truly understands how to actually support the members of the team off the field. Love whenever she and Greer are together. It’s four issues and it’s just good plain superhero fun. We’re getting the gang together! Whacky disguises and hijinks abound! The literal second line on the first page is Bobbi making cunnilingus innuendo!
West Coast Avengers vol. 2: So the first 30 or so issues are pretty similar to that first mini, then...Well, I'd have to devote like 1000+ words to parsing my thoughts on everything else, but suffice it to say I'm a fan of what Bobbi did and you should stop reading around #37 if you don't want to see all of the shit that Clint puts her through. Then the comic gets progressively worse until she dies (though there are a few issues where she and Greer form a splinter team with Marc, those are fun).
New Avengers (2010): Yeah it's Bendis but Bobbi's back! Can't remember which issue it is that introduces her.
Unstoppable Wasp: We get more of a focus on Bobbi as a biologist and we get to see her as a mentor. Her dynamic with Jan is fun <3
Honestly, I'm still missing a ton of her modern stuff because I just haven't read many modern comics in general. I read anything with her in it as it comes out but I still need to go back and read a lot of 2012-2020 stuff. I need to finish Silk (2016) still, but she's good in what I've read. Secret Empire is a terrible event but she has a pretty decent role in that and gets to interact with characters she rarely gets to be around, like Hercules, which is a nice change of pace.

i am so confused as to whether or not bianca/chris was planned from the jump or if the idea came later and the writers just cobbled chris crossed together 'cause if chris is engaged to bianca why is he also hooking up with the charge that leo assigns him? like wtf? either this pairing wasn't planned or bianca and chris are poly except given when this season aired no way in hell would they go for something quite this progressive so again wtf??
Oh, they definitely didn't plan on Bianca lmao. I love season six, and it's one of my favorites, but the continuity is a mess. (I mean, Witchstock my beloathed.) They absolutely had no intention of Chris having a fiancé before then, especially between his thing with the Valkyrie and his charge Natalie. I love them anyways, but there's a reason that I say that the writers put next to no thought into their story.
For a Watsonian explanation though, I explain both encounters as manipulation and lack of memory. In regards to Mist, I always viewed it as him manipulating her to stay on the Valkyrie's good side. I mean, despite the show's (weird) approach to them, they're intended to be good beings. Keeping an Elder, who also has close ties to the Charmed Ones, has to be sketchy for them, so Chris has to keep an eye on that situation so. Kissing Mist it is.
As for Natalie, I see it as he only slept with her when the Cleaners erased Wyatt's memory from everyone. Without Wyatt, the future never would have happened and he never met Bianca, or at least started a relationship with her. Frankly, I've always been curious about what exactly Chris remembered because of how integral Wyatt was to his life. I mean, he literally doesn't remember why he's in the past, y'know? A pretty significant amount of his brain must have been wiped.
Honestly, it's kinda interesting to consider how Chris/Bianca classify their relationship boundaries, because he canonically uses sex(?) appeal to manipulate people when he needs to like with the Stillman sisters and while we don't actually see Bianca do that, this was a early 2000's show and she was a spy character so. The idea of using sex as a tactic vs. the authentic emotional intimacy between them... There's something there.
I will say that while I'm not necessarily opposed to Chris/Bianca being poly, I don't think that they are or at least have other romantic partners. Both of them have a pretty substantial amount of issues, don't trust easily, and don't open up to others very well. Personally, I think that they had a v slowburn relationship and even when they first started dating, I think that they had a lot of issues with the trust aspect of it, especially with the unchanged future. I feel like it'd be very difficult for either of them to find someone like that again and to go through that entire journey again. Plus, as far as I know, the number one key to that kind of relationship is communication and. Well, Bianca's a spy and Chris will say anything except the truth, so I'm not sure that either would be able to do that effectively. That said, you could definitely spin that, depending on the third character, but I don't know who they'd be.

Didn't Parasia state she is thousands of years old?
... Okay, yeah I messed up there. Sorry about that, I kind of just answered without checking the facts properly. Btw, it's @opin88 (me, right now) that made that mistake. @a-sketchy-a-day was asleep because of time zones and she just pointed it out to me. So that mistake is completely on me!...
So I'm gonna answer the original question properly then! And yes, we've both talked it out now!
With 13 years old being "early adolescence" for most amphibians and also humans, Anne would turn into an olm that's in her early adolescence. Even if that kind of olm would actually be hundreds of years old by this point. Also, we like to imagine that olms age quicker in their youth. Like, they're efts for just a little bit longer than their smaller counterparts, they have a growth spurt until they reach their teens around about 25 years (15 in frog years) old, and then their growth slows to a crawl. After all, that's how a lot of animals that get very old work!
Now, for those 3 months that Anne is an olm, she's aging at the olm-appropriate rate. However, if olms that are that young age a bit faster and it's only 3 months, then any sort of 'age gap' would be negligible. Because it's not like she stops aging entirely, right? This would fuel a pretty good reason for the olms to make that potion the most restricted of them all! Sure, everyone knows that they're all just naturally suspicious, but when they have a reason like that backing them up, Marcy can just sign off in agreement with them while citing that reason!

whaaaat? Clyde stans say that they """like""" his """moral grayness""" before turning around and saying that literally everything he did was Good Actually? and edelstans do the exact same thing with Edelfart for the exact same reasons and over the exact same ideals and decisions Clyde makes in Hopes (since Clyde is Ladlegard 2.0)?
what a coincidence, certainly not indicative of who the majority of Clyde stans (or even fans) are, nope. definitely DOESN'T explain why so many Clyde fans are rude, pretentious, and prone to projection ("we're the REAL Claude fans!! everyone who doesn't like Clyde never REALLY liked Claude!!" sure bud tell yourself that) i promise.
Basically, yeah. They think it's "the real him", citing that one interview (that didn't actually say Claude was planned to be super shady, just that he wasn't quite as "good" as he turned out to be (but the final version is obviously something they were comfortable and satisifed with or they wouldn't have bothered).
Apparently they think it's "good" because he's "only invading Faerghus and killing their people to get to and kill Rhea, who is Very BaD". From almost every person in support of GW Claude, it's an extremely tunnel visioned mindset of the ends justifying the means only as long as Rhea is killed... and as someone who has been actively part of Joe Z's community for about three years now, I can absolutely without question and with full confidence tell you that most of the Claude community absolutely despises Rhea and takes full enjoyment of the idea of Claude murdering her.
Yes, I am being serious and no, I am not exaggerating. I was in his livestreams on Twitch so I could see the chat. Some of the shit I've seen is pretty appalling honestly. I love Joe, but his takes on Claude were a bit sketchy for me because he was part of the "let's go kill Rhea because she's evil" brigade. The Claude community at large typically knows of his content, but it's not just his community and it's not just the people outside of his community - it's both.
You're completely right about the Claude stans too, sadly. Not all Claude fans do that, not even all GW Claude fans, but I've seen my faaair share of "we're the real fans" and "you don't understand him" from people who prefer his behavior in Hopes. Apparently they wholly missed the part where Hopes was an AU, or maybe they just imagined the eye patch on Dimitri the whole time and never noticed.
I don't have a problem with people liking the writing or liking that version of Claude, but most of the ones I've met or seen posts from are like... very pushy and aggressive about it. Thankfully most of them did catch the racist understones and don't support that, i.e. actual Claude fans and not uwugard stans, though of course uwugard stans don't care about that at all because yes, certainly, let the brown man be questionable and do evil things for our Totally Not Evil white waifu. Yaaaawn.
It also really sucks because I only know a few people who liked GW Claude without liking him in a hypocritcal way. Like sure, you can find it interesting and still like him while understanding what he did wasn't good or justifiable (justifiable because he did not choose violence as a last resort in any of his battles, whether they were fights he picked/started or not). The closest he came was begging his abusive, hateful brother to stop fighting him, which was... uh... yeah, okay). It's just that the ones who now think they're the "true fans" are very loud and mean.
Like nah, I'm gonna keep liking my big brained Claude who can fight his battles with words and secrecy. Everyone else is doing the violence thing, so I'm perfectly happy with Claude being the outlier and being the unexpectedly different one. I happen to like the contrast in his personality, wanting to bring people together and make everyone happy pappy sunshine and rainbowy friends, while still having that fear of rejection, of being hated and feeling the need to be sneaky and secretive because he's paranoid. I like the guy who makes poisons that are "relatively harmelss" and sleeps with a knife under his pillow, but who also wants to be lighthearted, learn to love others and be loved in return for the first time in his life. That was a fun, interesting, detailed character.
Pretty sure I'm a "true Claude fan" just like the next guy who likes GW Claude but isn't a dick to other people about it.

supernatural s14e11 damaged goods (w. davy perez)
course i just said how sam and dean are good these days in the last recap and now dean is packing up a load of sketchy items (surely without telling him about the thing with billie), gives sam a damned hug and runs off alone to see mary. like that's not a big fat fucking red flag that he's about to do something really bad/stupid
SAM Sorry, I’m just – I’m worried, you know? Ever since we locked Michael up, Dean’s been acting strange, and he just packed up and left, and then, uh… MARY And what? SAM He hugged me. MARY That’s sweet. SAM Mom, we don’t hug. I mean, w-we do, but only if it’s literally the end of the world, you know? MARY Sam, he’ll be here soon. I’ll look after him. I’ll get to the bottom of this.
maybe you this is a sign you should hug in not world-ending situations too. but also, handy right now that you don't because it's a useful indicator of dean's mindset
SAM Yeah, alright. M-maybe it’s like you said, you know? Maybe he just needs some space, like Bobby. MARY Yeah. Well, and until we know for sure, we have to respect that.
+1 for all the good communication. between them, at least. -100 for dean
glad to see donna. dean on top tier deflection duty.
DONNA Just wondering if you’ve run out of ways to ask me how I’m doing, so as to avoid me repaying the favor. I know you were just possessed. Again. Sam. He had us all out, looking for you. And I know you got an archangel hitching a ride up there in your noggin. Also Sam. DEAN What does he got? A freakin’ newsletter?
good job, sammy

two of my biggest triggers are terminal illness and suicide and well sure acting like they're trying to go two for two this season.
MARY Awesome. You know, if you wanted to make it a full reunion, we could call Sam over. DEAN Yeah, you know, I was thinking I’d actually be a little greedy with my Mom time, if that’s cool. MARY Well, I just thought, you know, if you’re staying a few nights… DEAN I don’t want Sam here.
stressing me out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and now some vague metalworking montage. ok. and nick who's basically lucifer 2.0 without powers now. which he does very well! but like. i'm tired
DEAN He’s soaking wet, and he’s pulling baloney and sliced cheese out of his pants. So, me being the big brother, I’m the cook. I take all that baloney, all that sliced cheese, and I put it onto a hot plate. MARY No. DEAN Yeah. MARY Oh. DEAN It stunk up that room so bad. Dad comes home, and he is so mad. He picks up everything, chucks it in the trash. Probably reminded him of you, and… Anyway, it did not taste right. It didn’t taste like this. MARY Oh. Sometimes I forget just how much I missed while I was gone and how much the two of you just… DEAN But you’re here now, right? And even though the last couple of years have been a little rough, just knowing that you’re around, that you’re alive… Mom, that’s meant everything to me. And everything to Sam.
you know i'll tuck every morsel of pre-series stories in my pocket. the double whammy of how much she missed, and how neglected they were
SAM Listen, Mom, I-I… I think I should come up. Uh, there’s some stuff missing from the bunker, and – MARY Sam, I don’t know what’s going on, but something is going on. Just give me some time. Let me talk to him, okay?
my kind of move. i think i should drive up there (already in the car halfway there)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DEAN Everybody keeps asking how I am. And how I am… is I don’t want to talk about it. Please.
well you're freaking everyone out and acting like you're about ready to drive off the cliff off throw yourself into the cage sooo
Tumblr media
dean don't wear jeans to bed challenge (but nic, when he gets a phone call in the middle of the night and has to go wandering outside looking for mary, he doesn't have time to put on real pants)
MARY Okay, you’re right. I trapped him. We fought, and he was winning. So, I put him in an Enochian puzzle box. He’s contained.
what. is this new? or something else i've forgotten. makes me think of the niffin boxes in the magicians. new, apparently.
Tumblr media
looks like one of john's (or bobby's, presumably) storage places
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
s3e3 bad day at black rock / s5e1 sympathy for the devil (both)
wiki says there was a tripwire with a shotgun in john's lockup that's featured in s3e3 and s5e1 too, like this one in wherever mary is
SAM It’s not about being dumb, Dean. It’s called compassion. Look, what happened to Nick could’ve happened to me. It almost happened to me. You change one little thing in our past, and that was me. Lucifer wearing me to the prom. And besides, since when do we give up on people? Since when do we just cut people loose? DEAN Well, maybe you need to learn, okay? ‘Cause when people are past the point of saving, maybe you need to learn to walk away.
sigh. well at least that's transparent enough sam should get the message
MARY I saw, Dean. Donna’s shed. I know what you’ve been building, planning. And we’re gonna talk about that. We are all three of us gonna talk about that. So if you don’t tell Sam… I will.
thank you, mary
DEAN Buried’s not safe enough. Plan is, pay a little hush money, charter a boat to take me out to the Pacific. Splash. SAM You and Michael, trapped together – for eternity?
so this episode is introducing an enochian puzzle box for trapping demons and a ma'lak box for trapping archangels. sure. dean's fashioned himself a topside cage. heavy sigh
SAM But there has to be another way. DEAN There’s not, okay? There – Sam you’ve tried. Cas has tried. Jack… And I love you for trying. But none of it’s gonna work. SAM We don’t know that. DEAN Yeah, we do. SAM What? DEAN Billie. SAM Billie? DEAN She paid me a little visit. She said that there’s only one way this ends right. And this is it. This, right here, this box. So, she gave up the special recipe, and all I had to do was the work. It’s fate. SAM Since when do we believe in fate? DEAN Now, Sam. Since now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SAM So… you came out here to see Donna, to see Mom on some – some what? Some sick, secret farewell tour? You were gonna leave, and you weren’t even gonna tell me. Me. Do you realize how messed up that is, how unfair that is? DEAN I didn’t have a choice! Sam, you’re the last person I could tell, the last person I could be around, ‘cause you’re the only one that could’ve talked me out of it. And I won’t be talked out of it. I won’t. I’m doing this. Now, you can either let me do it alone… or you could help me. But I’m doing this. SAM All right.
thanks i hate everything about this. they did a good job. dean's voice even wavered, without him tearing up. but i'm never good with the suicide/noble sacrifice bullshit
(and mushy music swells at the end)

so yesterday @ticklefighthockey was using this prompt generator and doing mini outlines—it looked fun, so i'm copying! some of these are not screenshots because i was hitting the 'generate' button too fast but ended up wanting to keep them. beware for grimy, yucky plotpoints, including problems with consent!
Tumblr media
this is a world in which there's something sacred in an alpha/omega bond; maybe something required by the league, maybe a stipulation from either sid or geno's parents to let them play? whatever it is, bonds in this world are only consummated/created via sex—that's the only way. and over time the consummation sex has become highly, highly ritualized, even for couples that are freely seeking to bond out of love. for sid and geno? the rigidity of the tradition is what gets them through their first time. part of the ritual involves a 'claiming' of the omega by the alpha—this is a world where gender roles are strictly enforced in the traditional rituals—the omega is asleep and overtaken by the alpha, and that's how it begins.
Tumblr media
sid and geno are in this world's version of a queer relationship. there's homophobia here for sure, but it's milder, a lot better than it used to be at least, that's for sure. they've been taking it slow—the dynamics clash is no joke, and they're working through being there for each other through the pheromone surges and how to handle each other's ruts as their cycles sync up. so they've had sex—a lot of it—but they've never knotted inside the other one.
the first time they try it, once the knot is locked in, the one who's being knotted has some horrible flashback memory to a hazing incident when he was in juniors. the rookies had all been fed shots until their vision was blurry, and whoever tapped out of taking more first was held down and teased with a knotting toy, one of those heat aids that omegas buy if they don't feel like getting an alpha. they never actually locked the knot in, the other boys, but it got very, very close.
he'd forgotten, until now, that had happened to him. and now he's stuck until the other's knot goes down.
repressed religious society and knotting with crying during sex
this one is pretty simple. in a society where virginity is prized above an other value or trait, and sex ed is essentially nonexistent.
sid and geno get married. they're young—scandalously young by our standards, and even in this world they raise a few eyebrows. but they're desperately in love, and they don't want to wait, and so they get their blessings and are united.
the wedding night comes, and they're both so fumbling and eager. geno's nervous, and so so careful with sid, but neither of them know what they're doing, and it's confusing and scary and it hurts and geno doesn't know how to make it better, and it's overwhelming for them both, and they end up crying in each other's arms as they wait for geno's knot to go down. after all, when your first time is put on such a pedestal, the only real outcome can be disappointment.
alpha/alpha and free use with internalized shame
for this one i'd revisit my free use 'verse i did for a/b/o fest this year. two alphas (to be named later, i don't remember anyone's designations lol) are in a clandestine relationship. to the world they're just buddies, good friends, but in private one of them acts like an omega, and in this world that means he's 'available' at all times. this would be a deep dive into his internal monologue as he orders sex aids from the sketchy side of the internet, as he slips out of bed on the mornings of days off to prepare himself to act and feel like an omega. he loves it—they both love it—but there's some deep, deep shame and self-loathing that goes along with all of this.
rutsex and used as a reward with (optional) branding/marking
alphas are rare rare rare, and there are...stereotypes about them. some of them have a ring of truth, some of them don't. one of the most pervasive, though, is that if you're an omega going through heat, the best partner for you is an alpha who's in rut. they'll do everything they can to please you and make sure you're spent and satisfied by the end, and if it goes well they'll be utterly devoted to you from then on.
alphas aren't allowed to play in the NHL until they're 22, which is when they supposedly settle and are less 'feral'. so, geno may have made his way to the US (in this world he stays after the draft, alphas are valuable enough that no team would risk sending him away on the off chance someone steals them), and he might be the penguins' property, but he's not allowed to play. he can attend practice, and he's collecting a paycheck, but he's not on the roster. not yet.
sid, though, is allowed to play. he's an omega, after all.
the franchise is clearly banking on him and geno as The Future, so they pair them up during practice, and sid does his best to try and soothe geno's jealousy and discontent. they become friends, good friends even.
something else that the organization is banking on, something they don't share with sid or geno, is that if sid and geno spend enough time together, their cycles will sync up, sid will go into heat when geno's in rut, and they'll tie their superstars to each other and to the franchise.
and, well. sid's the Next One. doesn't he deserve to have a reward? a little treat on the side for when the spotlight gets too bright? he is the youngest player to hit 100 points, after all...
