                                             𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐎 𝐎𝐑 𝐕𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐍?
Uncover the truth about Sonic's arch-rival... Shadow.
Tumblr media
Hello, & welcome to my writing roleplay blog, which if not already obvious, features the iconic anti-hero; Shadow the hedgehog. He is, technically, my first character I've ever written as. At the ripe, little age of eight years old. I usually wrote cringe fan fictions of he & I becoming friends (I was that kid.) & eventually transitioned to forum rp around twelve. Soon after, to Instagram between the ages of fourteen and eighteen... the, I brought him to Tumblr in late 2014. I apologize for such a wild introduction, Shadow is just a very near & dear character to me; with that being said, I do tend to pick apart what I portray him with. Even fan media of the franchise, were it to inspire me & give me room to expand Shadow's ever changing story!
I'd like it to be made apparent first & foremost, this is primarily a Villain ending Shadow the hedgehog. With a basis from his (sort-kinda glitchy & rushed) stand alone video game, ShTH 2005. I tend to write post-apocalyptic; which means it's a few years into the Villain Arc. I have a small summary of it, you can find it within my Carrd. Of course, I feature a neutral (anti-hero) path & heroic path! For those that may be a little less than comfortable writing with a full-fledged villain Shadow.
I am 100% alright with duplicates, as multiverse exists, & Shadow has dozens of imperfect android clones of himself walking around. This can be fun to play around in, so if you come across my blog, being a Shadow writer yourself, feel free to stop bye in my Dms & let me know if you'd like to create something together. <- Adding to this, I just ask you do not use any personalized headcanons I make up for Shadow to fit my own world & vision. I find that disrespectful & rude.
Due to Shadow's nature, along with the story molding him into who/what he is, some heavy topics will be featured here. Such as, but not limited to: Death, PTSD, Suicide mentions, heavy depression, descriptive blood/gore, mature language, artistic nudity & descriptive sexual encounters. <- Shadow is over 21 years of age, & an immortal being. However, anything sexual in nature will be reserved for people I am fully comfortable with, such as those who are my 'affiliates'. This offside mature jokes are alright to throw Shadow's way, although he will more than likely brush it off or find your character annoying.
More on mains/exclusives/affiliates: At this moment, I do not accept other 'affiliates', mains, or exclusives aside from Yuri & S. They are also my main writing partners, which means: They take priority in my replies, my plotting energy, etc.
Regarding relationships in the romance department: Shadow is multiship. I mention this briefly in my Carrd, despite this being my route for Shadow, he does have a canon romance with Yuri's Rouge the bat. While she is on indefinite hiatus with this character, her portrayal of Rouge & the story we've built with the two are going to remain. However, this will not apply to other Rouge blogs; Shadow sees those versions of Rouge as either a co-worker, or an enemy. Depending on how we collaborate on their interactions.. So, please do not worry about my headcanons or myself pressuring you into a romantic ship with my Shadow.
Regarding relationships in the romance department part ii: Every relationship would be heavily slow burned. Meaning, achieving such a status with Shadow can take months, to even over a year. Were each party invested enough - although, there will not always be a guarantee that Shadow catches feelings for your character, despite how long they're in a slow burn. Sometimes it doesn't work out, & that's okay. It doesn't mean anything, other than that our characters are incompatible. They can remain coworkers, frienemies, or acquaintances... Whichever the flow of things takes us, really. Please don't take it personal if it doesn't work out with Shadow- I assure you, it's not that deep.
A note on blocking/soft blocking/unfollowing: I don't just unfollow or softblock, I always out right block. I don't like being questioned on it, as my reasoning for doing so is such a long list. However, it's almost never personal... If I don't vibe with you anymore, don't enjoy your tone of speaking, overly aggro in your own guidelines pages, try to police people on how they write or what they write (i.e.; saying they should end their life over something fictional... yeah, no.) I will block, too, if you are overly dramatic, meaning, you like to stir the pot for no other reason than to do it & get clout. If you share callouts, or try to tell me who I can & can't talk to. I'm pro-free mind, as in not following the crowd on harassing someone over a callout. I block if you're a person who genuinely believes what media someone likes is a direct reflection on their own views & morals... grow up. I will also block, if I'm just simply not interested in your blog or character.
I think that's all, so here's a little bit about me: My name is Archeon, "Ark", 1995 is my birth year. I've been together with Yuri 6 years as of May 2024... She is my everything. My favorite color is red, my favorite Pokemon are Gengar & Umbreon. I also write a few characters, mostly known for Makima, Dame Aylin, Mei Raiden & Dante... Currently, I am learning Chinese along with going through a weight loss journey - as of typing this, I'm 5 months in!
Special notes**     i.    I am against users who create art or feed writing/roleplay responses with the use of AI, or artificial intelligence. Please refer to this post for further info ->    ii.    blog edits: (c) | icon border/banner edits: me.
Thanks for checking out my links & reading this far, I look forward to writing & chatting together.

MATCHUP TRADE WITH @justsomerandomfanfic — 100% COMPLETED.
Tumblr media
A/N: Omg first of all, after reading all of your information I started on this so quickly. you seem like such a cool person and we share a lot in common AND we share a lot of interests. I really hope you enjoy these matchups! here I go!
For Yuri On Ice, You have been matched with…
Tumblr media
Yuuri Katsuki!
I feel like you and him would be so perfect together, even though you both may not start talking to each other until later on (because of your shyness) but when you do it’ll be worth it!
First of all, he was very used to your quietness until you started getting loud, which is something he’ll have to get used to but he’ll get there eventually! he loves seeing how creative you are with arts, he loves just watching you paint. he’ll even point out some of the smaller designs. he’ll also be really thrilled if you see him ice skate. he understands about being insecure, so was he, it’s something you both can comfort each other with and help each other out throughout your relationship together. I feel like you can trust him more easily, he’s not mean and he would never peer-pressure, even if it’s funny or not it’s something that I’ll never see him doing whatsoever. he’ll do his best to stick up for you when your being peer-pressured.
I feel like for dates you guys would go hang out in quiet places like a library, or maybe a crowdless coffee shop, really anywhere that doesn’t have crowds. he’ll also help you whenever he can when you get over stimulated. he also starts getting flustered when you buy him things and you bet he’ll return the favor.
For My Hero Academia, You have been matched with…
Tumblr media
Ochaco Uraraka
When reading this she was the first person to come to mind she is so so so SO understanding when it comes to you. she’s so helpful too whenever your over stimulated or if your being peer-pressured. she stops people from bullying you and taking you out of the situation, she’ll ask if your alright and will stay with you to comfort you and get you your comfort items.
She’s also your study partner! You guys are always hanging out with each other a whole lot, she takes you out of places that are loud or very crowded. she also tries to decline any gifts that you give her but you insists that she takes them. she definitely fell for you, hard, when she met you. you just seemed so perfect whether you were aware of it or not and she confessed to you very fast months later and here you guys are now dating! the entire relationship is so sweet with you guys, just like candy and soda! she watches a lot of youtube as well, I feel like she would watch anyone funny or watches those people who react to those cringey tiktok things. I can see you two having movie dates together, you guys are always running out of popcorn because you guys eat so much of it.
She would definitely go to the arcade with you. and she likes doing karaoke, you’ll be laughing because of how she sings her heart out (and then gets embarrassed after LMFAO). she loves hearing you talk about anything that you like, wether it’s about movies, animals, geology, etc, really anything and she’ll have her entire mouth shut off.
For Kamisama Kiss, You have been matched with…
Tumblr media
Nanami Momozono!
And yet again she was about her person that I thought would be perfect for you. Since the day you guys met she was automatically protective over you. she’ll fuck up anyone who tries and messes with you. she comforts you afterwards and cuddles you so much, she’s so sweet to you.
She loves hearing about your interests! She’s so amazed by how much stuff you like, and also how much knowledge you have, she’s always learning more stuff because of you. You both give each other gifts A LOT. she’s another person you can trust your entire life with, literally. She also loves watching you paint, I can see her painting with you as well. She thought of how cute you were when you were all shy, and now she even finds you more cuter when you talk loudly about your interests/ or whatever you think of. she’ll take care of your cats if you’d like! She loves your freckles a lot, she’s always booping your cheeks a lot too. And she loves your fashion sense too! she steals anything comfy from you, including your pajamas…
I can see the both of you getting drinks together and sitting in a library while quietly talking about what’s been going on in your lives, I can also see you guys at a arcade and getting all the prizes from the claw machine. AND I can see you guys having movie nights while being cuddled up together against the couch with soft pillows and blankets while eating the most unhealthy foods ever <3.

Tiger and Bunny 2 thoughts
- SPOILERS AHEAD -
These thoughts are pretty scattered, will try to keep them somewhat chronological but I’m sorry if they’re not and just all over the place lol Going to also try to not repeat what I’ve seen other people already touch on
- Have to get this out of my system: I MISS BEN, BEN WHERE FOR ART THOUUUUUUU
- I wonder if Ryan was even snippier with Kotetsu during ep3 since if he did partner up with Karina, it’d be twice now that Kotetsu’s taken a partner from him in a sense
- Speaking of that ep, damn Karina girl you savage and going for the heart of it with Ryan at the beginning huh, with that “insecure” remark
- We can NEVER talk too much about Rock Bison so we’re here now. His relationship with Origami is pretty cute, tho this conflict felt weirdly petty/serious all at the same time. Funny how the guy who last was having an identity crisis got teamed up with the man who can change his identity. Good stuff. But man, Bison is really humble? Like even first ep, it’s Bison, the older of the two, asking Origami for anything he could be doing better. Also just him being so supportive of Kotetsu when Bunny was hospitalized and the new rookies and prioritizing their safety when the twins invaded *chef’s kiss*
- Also love Kotetsu reciprocating the care, helping Bison sober up and listening to his woes. I just *clenches fist* want more best friend moments for them
- Speaking of friends, it’s good to see Bunny get a new one who luckily did not turn out to be a villain despite the warning signs, especially considering I feel like this season showed a lot how he’s adjusting to normal daily life things and being himself and finding hobbies (where are the orphan kids tho?)
- I think Lara’s my favorite so far out of the rookies, despite me dying in the last episodes over her not being able to do the thing, even though in my head I knew it was coming. Her relationship with Pao-Lin is very sweet even though Pao-Lin is a bit overbearing with all the support (I felt like I got cavities haha). I think her fears with hero work are super valid. I wonder if her reason for getting into this line of work were purely from her mother or some other motives? She actually feels like she has the most room for development in that sense next cour.
- Gotta shoutout Kotetsu’s save for her, I love to see my man being competent after getting shit on so much 😭
- Oh god the big episode, the father daughter one. I think a lot of people have already covered this one but I will say I’m glad that Kotetsu took a step back and never really argued with any of the points Kaede made because she’s right. In context of chapter 32 of the Yoshida Tiger & Bunny manga I think the way Kotetsu reacts makes a lot of sense.
- MURAMASAAAA I’m happy for you!! I’m so glad Kotetsu called him for advice. Muramasa is truly a friggen rock in Kotetsu’s life, 10/10 brother. Please appreciate him Kotetsu! Always such sage wisdom and advice
- The Yuri and Kotetsu content I didn’t know I wanted, so funny watching those two interact with kids involved lol ofc Kotetsu’s called about lessons on property damage I die
- The “AH” Bunny makes gives me life when he gets who “pasty face” is. The simultaneous “AH” from Kotetsu and Bunny when Thomas clarifies Subaru’s explaination, gold.
- I’m so glad that one of my HCs did not die which was that I think Kotetsu’s one of the most proficient at hand to hand, thank you for giving me extended fight scene for Kotetsu <3
- Though I can’t believe the thing I had to suspend my disbelief most at was that Kotetsu and Bunny never went out for drinks. Though thinking about their timeline, this could make sense, it’s just so surreal.
- This Gregory Sunshine thing smells like Ryan’s gonna be important next cour. Wonder if they’ll spotlight him more cause of this?
- Curious if this NEXT enhancing drug will be offered to Kotetsu? 🤔 Don’t know how I feel about it since I would love Kotetsu to have more time, but I feel like it backtracks on a lot of character development, considering we get to see how capable he is even at 1 minute
- I ate up that extra past hero history about LL Audun btw, hope to get more of that kind of stuff. I wanna know about past heroes!
- It almost feels like 25 eps is too restrictive for such a big cast they have now and the storylines they left open. (Can’t believe there hasn’t been Lunatic at all) The pairing up helps but still... Though I guess that means S3 potential, just hope it doesn’t take them another like 11 years. Withholding judgement though ofc until the next cour airs! Overall tho I was impressed with how much they were able to preserve the original tone and vibe.
- Also are they gonna talk at all about 2nd league?

Recently been thinking about a headcanon where Yuri suffers from injury related chronic pain.
Think about it, he makes his suits entirely on his own and he's just some guy. As far as we know he has no background in engineering, there's no team to craft him a well armored hero suit like the ones the heroes have, and there's nothing special about his suit other than it being fireproof (and even that was only "confirmed" in a 4-koma). When he gets gets hit (normally by one of our two protagonists with hundred power) there's really nothing standing between him and a serious injury other than anime logic.
He obviously can't just check himself into a hospital without suspicion because how does a normal judge get these serious injuries like those, especially repeatedly? I can't recall where it states it but it's canon that Yuri is competent with first aid so I always imagine that he likely treats all of his injuries at home to the best of his abilities and just stays stocked up on ice and pops ibuprofen like they're candy. No doubt he's sustained serious ones and sought no medical treatment, likely leading to prolonged injury and improper healing.
I think he also keeps pushing himself (too hard) and (over)working when he really shouldn't be, like in the anime where his shoulder was injured to the point that he was holding it in pain and couldn't even put his hair up yet he was still sitting there at work.
I imagine he'd always be in some degree of pain but he hides it quite well, likely something he carried over from (additional headcanon) the time when he was burned as a child and may have felt the need to be strong for his mother and take the perceived burden off of her or, possibly, he just didn't receive the care he needed and had to handle things on his own.
Even if he had a partner they'd likely never have any idea about it unless things got very severe. Showing that he is tired or in pain would be exposing a vulnerability and would also get in the way of his work so that just isn't an option in his mind.
However, I do think the second they found out they'd be straight out the door with him, taking him to the hospital. When talking to a few people about it on Discord we decided his partner would take him out in a nice (but very low energy date) doing a lot of things he liked to do to soften the blow but then roll up to the ER unexpectedly and make him go inside. Since he's always so caught up in wanting everything to be fair then he'd be more likely to agree and go inside to get help.

I love how you play with perspective and characters (I'm talking about Rivals btw, though I see this in your other fics). I love how you recognize that Yuuri isn't an uwu cinnamon role who is just a victim to other people and his circumstances, but actually a deeply flawed and kinda selfish person who tends to project his issues onto Viktor, whether that was through obsessive hero worship or obsessive hatred. I found the dissonance between the way the characters of Viktor and Yuuri view the world and each other vs their actual reality to be downright disturbing. Like (I see this in canon too) it takes so goddamn long to get past seeing Viktor through this untouchable, inhuman lens, which is believable because of his fame and notoriety. This lens kinda leads to all those weird interactions between Yuuri and Viktor even in canon, where Yuuri kinda assumes that Viktor will be ok no matter what he (Yuuri) does because it's Viktor, y'know? And that is not a healthy way to view your partner's vulnerabilities. Cesare wrote a really good fic which kind of explored this issue called "makes no sense to fall". I like how in your fic, it is so very clear that we are dealing with a couple of completely unreliable narrators. Like, perspective is such an important part of this fic, with Chris, Yuri, Viktor, Yakov and Yuuri especially. Yuri triggers Yuuri's realisation of his love for Viktor and like, it's all from Yuri's barely informed perspective of Yuuri. I think that makes a good point about how you should never assume? Viktor assumes Yuuri doesn't skate and that he and Yuuri are connected when at the time they really...weren't, Yuuri assumes that Viktor hasn't changed since he was 15 because of one experience, Yakov assumes Yuuri is a cheat and playboy without even having the full story: everyone is making assumptions and judging everyone without getting multiple perspectives. I mean jeez, at least Yuri gives Yuuri the benefit of the doubt at first, and tries to give him the other side of the story instead of letting everything go to shit. Thank god to Yurio for saving this ship lmao. Even with the fans and the little parts with social media, you can see how distorted their images of Viktor and Yuuri are. There was this fake post where someone said something like "it's not like Katsuki actually cares what people think about him anyway" and it just?? Fucked me up???? Like that was the moment when I was like "oh wow they really don't see them as human at all" which come to think of it, is kind of like how Yuuri sees Viktor at first. I think it makes an interesting commentary on the dangers of idolising anybody. It's personally poignant to me because it makes me re-examine the way I view celebrities or people I generally admire.
Especially as an English lit fan, your fic is a delight. Sorry if I didn't make much sense haha
Thank you!! When I started writing the fic I knew I wanted to write Yuuri as an unreliable narrator and explore how warped our perception of other people can be. I was going through a really rough period in my life while I was writing Rivals and experiencing some pretty bad mental health issues. A lot of Yuuri in that fic was a reflection of myself and me trying to work through some of my own issues. At the time of writing it, I actually had untreated and undiagnosed anxiety and I was struggling a lot with how it affected my relationships with other people (always assuming the worst, thinking every little minor thing meant they hated me, relating everything to myself rather than accepting people had their own lives and their own justifications for doing things that had nothing to do with me etc). A little while before writing the fic, I had started to try and fix myself and stop getting so caught up in my own head and my own worries that I stopped seeing the bigger picture and viewed other people as reflections of my own fears rather than individuals. So I wrote Yuuri partly based on my own feelings and to pick apart my own issues.
Thankfully I'm much better now (thank u therapy and medication!) but I'm still very glad I wrote the fic the way I did because I love exploring how drastically different two people can see the same scenario and how our past experiences shape the way we see the world. I also loved writing the social media sections because I have a lot of Thoughts and Opinions on celebrity culture and I wanted to explore how not only is Yuuri's perspective of Viktor messed up, but so is the media and fans perception of both of them and how that impacts their relationship and perceptions of each other

hi lay! could i please get the sfw alphabet for yuri? i love your work!!! have a nice day!! 💕
sfw alphabet. | yuri
-> Pairing: Yuri x GN!Reader
-> Genre: Fluff, SFW Alphabet
-> Warnings: None
-> A/N: i just wanted to say i’m so so so so close to 1.2k followers and i’m so excited i love having so many of y’all supporting me ♡︎
Tumblr media
A -> Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
yuri is not affectionate in the beginning. it takes him a long time to warm up and get truly comfortable and fully trusting with you, so he still kind of has his walls up at the beginning of your relationship.
as it progresses, he gets a little more open in private, but there are some days where yuri just doesn’t want affection
B -> Begin (How did the relationship begin?)
you two were flirting MASTERS bruh
the tension in the monastery was unreal from the moment you two met. at first it wasn’t really serious, instead just trying to fluster the other, but eventually you gained some genuine feelings and he did too. yuri never really actually asked you out, it just kind of happened one day
C -> Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How do they cuddle?)
yuri’s kind of temperamental when it comes to cuddling. he doesn’t mean to be, but some days just aren’t cuddling days.
growing up, yuri didn’t get the affection he needed after being adopted. a sudden onslaught of affection and cuddling sometimes gets really overwhelming for him and he just needs to chill for a bit
D -> Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How good are they at cooking and cleaning?)
yuri’s never really thought about settling down. if you don’t want to settle down, he won’t either. if you do, he’ll consider it. to him, his work in the abyss never ends. he doesn’t want to “settle”, because to him, settling down means that his work is done.
E -> Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
unfortunately, yuri would pull some shit out of his ass like he did in the ashen wolves route. he’d come up with some lie as to why he’s breaking up with you and make you hate him so that it’s a little easier for him. newsflash, it’s never easier
F -> Fiancé(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quickly would they want to get married?)
yuri is definitely not going to jump at the chance of marriage, but he’d be willing to sit down and talk with you about it. after you’d been together for a long time, of course
he’s good with commitment, like exceptionally good, which is why i don’t think that he believes marriage is necessary. what’s the point other than earning a new last name? you love him and he loves you, he doesn’t think that there needs to be some big ceremony to know that
but if you’re adamant about it, he won’t be against it. as long as the wedding ceremony isn’t too big
G -> Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
physically, yuri is very gentle. he’s kind of awkward at first, not knowing what to do, so he’s lowkey kind of scared of doing the wrong thing. everything he does is done with precision and care to make sure that you’re comfortable and happy
emotionally, it takes him a while to be a little less... closed off. yuri is blunt and brutally honest, preferring not to sugar coat things or get caught up in sweet pleasantries. he has to realize that sometimes, those things can be taken as mean and the last thing he wants to do is be mean to you. showing you his soft side comes slowly, but it’s worth it when he does.
H -> Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
hugs are reserved for the small, fleeting private moments that the two of you get alone
they’re loose, with his arms draped around your waist and yours resting on his shoulders as he smiles down at you, talking sweet nothings in a hushed voice
I -> I Love You (How fast do they say the L-word?)
yuri’s love language is definitely not words of affirmation
it’s acts of service but that’s not what this letter is about
yuri doesn’t say i love you often. you’re the one to say it first, and even then, it’s a little hard for him to get out. it’s not that he doesn’t love you, because trust me, he does, it’s just that it’s such a vulnerable thing that caught him completely off guard when you said it.
he does say it back, though, muffled into the crown of your hair as he holds you in the middle of the night
J -> Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)
to get yuri jealous is to accomplish the impossible
to even consider you as his s/o, yuri has to have an enormous amount of trust in you. he has faith that you won’t ever betray him
but if he does, somehow, get jealous, it’s kind of funny to watch. he’ll just casually walk up to whoever you’re talking to and join in on the conversation, making sure to butt in and interrupt the guy. he just wants to make the dude super duper frustrated, and it works.
K -> Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
super fiery and possessive, and yet unsure at the same time. yuri’s so passionate about you and loves you a lot, but he’s always on the cautious side, making sure that you’re comfy and okay
he love love love loves to kiss the crown of your head, especially as he’s holding you against his chest. it makes him feel like he’s protecting you
kiss his neck and chest!! please! he absolutely melts, even if it’s just cute lil loving sfw kisses
L -> Little Ones (How are they around children?)
yuri is very very good with kids. he’s like a hero to the children in the abyss, so he’s got a lot of practice. he loves to sit with them and tell them stories. his most popular is about a robin hood-esque character who somehow managed to get the most beautiful, sweetest person in the world to fall in love with him. that story makes you blush every time.
M -> Mornings (How are mornings spent with them?)
mornings together aren’t too often, but they’re not as scarce as they would be with felix. yuri’s day starts bright and early and he’d like it if yours did too. he’d love to wake up and spend like five minutes with you, but if you’re not an early bird he’d understand
if you’re still asleep by the time he wakes up, he’ll lay on his side and just admire you for a bit, running his fingers through your hair and just looking at you before giving you a kiss on the forehead and getting up to start his day.
N -> Nights (How are nights spent with them?)
nights with yuri kind of depend on his mood
as said in earlier headcanons, there are times when yuri just doesn’t want to be touched. those nights, you both just lay side by side and talk about different things
on nights that he’s comfortable with cuddling, he often will lay facing you and will hold you to his chest, his chin resting on your head as he rubs small circles into your back, still talking about the day and future plans
O -> Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything at once or wait to reveal things slowly?)
even years into your relationship with yuri, you’re still learning things. it’s usually menial things that he doesn’t deem necessary for someone to know, but you’re still learning.
it’s not that yuri doesn’t trust you, because he does, it’s just that he’s not an open person. he doesn’t find talking about his past beneficial for anyone, so he just doesn’t do it.
he will confide in you about his real name right after you get together, though, asking you to never use it again after that.
P -> Patience (How easily angered are they?)
yuri is very slow to anger. sure, he gets frustrated at times, but he’s never one to show such negative emotions. if someone sees that they’re getting to him, that’s a weakness that he just doesn’t want people to see.
he wouldn’t really ever get mad at you, i wish i could elaborate more on that but yuri’s just really tolerant and you don’t really do anything to make him mad anyways??
Q -> Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
yuri remembers big things like your birthday or other significant facts, but sometimes he has to be reminded of smaller things like your mother’s father’s dog’s cousin’s name. he remembers most things is what i’m trying to say
R -> Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
yuri likes to remember the day he realized that you were the one. he was very stressed that day because the abyssians were getting nervous about rumors of an impending attack from thieves and he was struggling calming them all down
you jumped right into the chaos when you saw what was happening and quickly began soothing the abyssians as well, rallying them up and improving their morale just in case they actually would have to defend their home again
yuri’s heart swelled as he realized that you truly cared about his people and his home as much as he did
S -> Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
yuri’s quite protective, but in a secretive way. he’s not really... out there. he chooses to watch you from the corner of his eye when you’re in the same room or fight close to you when you’re in battle, only swooping in to save the day when you absolutely need it.
that’s how he’d prefer to be “protected” as well, just don’t call it protected because the great yuri leclerc does NOT need protection according to him. don’t be overbearing, let him handle things and only really come in when he absolutely needs it.
T -> Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, etc?)
yuri would definitely try to make special days special, but he wouldn’t do much in terms of physical gifts. instead, he’d make you take a day off from duties and treat you to a tea party or a trip to the sauna and such
U -> Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
yuri will always always always struggle with leaning on you for support. he’s used to being the big, lone wolf leader who doesn’t need anybody and that won’t change easily.
V -> Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks? Do your looks bother them?)
yuri is naturally a beauty, so he doesn’t really try with his looks. even if he doesn’t really think he’s that much of a catch, he doesn’t bother to make himself one either.
your looks don’t bother him at all. he likes you for your personality, loyalty, strength, and all those things. it’s just a plus that you’re exceedingly attractive
W -> Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
i’m sorry, reader, but if he did feel incomplete without you, he sure as hell would be good at showing it. yuri’s spent his life only being close to three other people while everyone else has betrayed or left him. he’s got walls up for a reason and if you left, he’d easily be able to shut those feelings out and put the walls back up again
X -> Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
yuri snorts when he laughs too hard it’s just a proven fact. he gets super embarrassed when he does and makes you swear not to tell anyone, but it’s so cute and funny and makes you both laugh ten times harder
Y -> Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, in general or in a partner?)
if you don’t care about the abyss or are really selfish, that’s a no. yuri has two number one priorities; you and the abyss. he’d appreciate it if you at least just cared a little about it, yk? that’s his home
Z -> Zzz (What’s a sleep habit of theirs? Does it change around a partner?)
in addition to snorting when he laughs, yuri also makes little noises when he sleeps. they’re usually just small hums or little mumbles, but once you had a conversation with him while he was dead asleep

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: One World, One People (1x06)
Oof, okay, so I obviously enjoyed watching this, but I do have some things I would like to discuss.
Cons:
The biggest one is honestly about Isaiah. I understand that this is a superhero show, and there's some cheesiness baked into the very concept of it. I like the idea of a triumphant ending for our heroes, where amends are made and everyone is brought some measure of peace. BUT, I feel like a more nuanced, more true to reality ending here with Isaiah might have been different. Maybe he gives a tip of the hat to Sam, says he's happy he's found his peace, but he still doesn't agree with his choices. See, the thing is, some people who have been hurt by systems want that system to acknowledge its mistake, to apologize, to make amends. That's what Sam is pushing for. He believes we can do better, and all that. And that's a wonderful perspective. But other people who have been hurt by systems might not want anything to do with that system ever again. At the end, when Sam sets up the part of the museum for Isaiah, he says "now everyone will know what you did for this country," and Isaiah seemed pleased and touched by this. But I couldn't help but think... he was forced into doing those things, and then punished for doing them. If he'd decided he didn't want acknowledgment, didn't want to be linked to the idea of American heroism... I couldn't blame him for that. It might have added more nuance to the ending. Sam could have even said that it's okay if he and Isaiah don't agree on the best way forward, they still have mutual respect, or whatever.
As a white lady, maybe I'm off base. I'm just really curious at what the reaction is going to be. All through watching this show I kept saying to myself that an ending where Sam takes up the shield and becomes Captain America can't stand on its own. There's got to be nuance. There's got to be some good justification for it. And as I'll talk about in a moment, I think they've done an okay job... but I also wouldn't be surprised to find some people enormously dissatisfied with this conclusion. Steve Rogers handed the shield to Sam, yes. But should we forget what he did before handing it over? Well, he walked away from the government and was on the run because he didn't respect their choices. Just some food for thought.
I also just want to say: ????? to that ending for John Walker? It was so bizarre to see the light banter moment between him and Bucky after Walker had quoted Lincoln. Like... that felt so out of place. And now he's being made into an American agent? I don't understand that random lady's role in events. I don't know if I'm supposed to think it's sinister and creepy as fuck that John still has a uniform, and even the suggestion of authority (I do think it's creepy as fuck, for the record), or if I'm supposed to be... pleased that he got a new job? Just, tonally, the stuff with Walker in this finale was all over the place. He didn't seem to really matter, and yet he was still there, and the episode didn't seem able to reckon with his presence.
Oh, also, I can totally respect a bit of ham-fisted politic in a show like this. It's really the only way to do it. But Karli saying that Lamar didn't matter, and John saying "you think Lemar's life didn't matter?" was, perhaps, a little on the nose. I'm not sure I like the BLM mouthpiece being blond haired blue eyed John Walker, especially when Lemar's death, at least as a narrative function, only happened to allow John to get sad and angry about it. Where's his wing in the museum, huh?
Also Sharon Carter, she's my girl or whatever, but I gotta admit she was kind of boring to me in this whole series. I wanted more from her. The reveal that she was the Power Broker had me shrugging. I wanted to be more shocked, but she was so clearly telegraphed as being fishy from minute one. The fact is, we haven't had enough time with this character to figure out who she actually is as a person, yet. I don't understand her, and that's a shame.
Pros:
That was a long "cons" section, especially for an episode that kept me riveted the whole way through!
First off, the action was exciting and different and had so many classic "superhero moments" while not totally abandoning a more grounded feel. Sam holding the car up was such a Moment. Also the "that's Black Falcon!" "No, that's Captain America" moment was so cheesy but exactly the right kind of cheesy, you know? We got to see everyone being a bad-ass, crowds applauding, Sam's fantastic entrance with the new suit, the wings, the shield... damn. It was all cool in the way the best Marvel products need to be.
So, Sam taking the shield. I think it works because of his speech to the politicians. Specifically calling out the power they have, and the people they have in the room with them when they make the decisions that will affect so many people. There's this wonderful moment when one of the politicians asks a legitimate question: what about people who came back after the snap to find someone else living in their house? It's so complicated. And as the show ends, we're not given a simple answer. Sam merely points out the miracle of having everyone fighting the same fight for once. These rich and powerful people have had no idea how impossible it can be, and now they're getting a taste of that. There might just be the power of equalizing in all of this.
And most important to me? The government didn't hand Sam the shield. Sam took it and took ownership of it on his own terms. Think back to the legacy of Steve and the shield, honestly. Yes, he was given it by the government, but then he stole it when he ran away, then he gave it up, then Tony gave it back to him... it's a lot more complicated than it might first appear. Nobody's going to argue that the shield was Steve's to give, and he gave it to Sam, and Sam took it for his own. That made it work for me, as a direct contrast to the way in which John Walker got his hands on it.
Karli's death was inevitable and tragic. While I never cared all that much for her character as an individual, she worked quite well as a symbol. Sam points this out in his speech as well. Hasn't anyone stopped to wonder why people believed in this cause so much they were willing to die for it? That matters. It means something. And more will follow. I appreciate that the show ends on an ambiguous note. The people in power are still the people in power. And yes, their decision has been postponed. They've decided not to relocate people and replace the borders immediately. But what is the long-term solution? How does the world begin to heal? Well, we don't know. We don't get to see that.
If anyone got short shrift in this finale it was Bucky, but I'm honestly okay with that for a couple of reasons. One, this is Sam's show and I'm happy that it stayed that way. And two, we saw Bucky's emotional arc come to a head in last week's episode. The work isn't done, but he knows what the work is that he has to do, and we see him start to do that. He gives the journal up to his therapist. A way of letting go of his guilt, but also of saying goodbye to Steve in a way that can give him some actual closure. He confesses to his friend Yuri what really happened to his son.
And more than all of that, he shows up to hang out with Sam and his family. He brings cake. He goofs off with the kids. He hugs his friend, his partner, Sam Wilson. I can see Bucky coming to peace with some things. Coming into his own. It breaks my heart that we don't get to see more of that play out on screen. The show had to make a choice about whose story to prioritize, and in my opinion it made the right choice. This was a show about Sam's journey and Sam's decision here at the end was the capstone of that.
That scene at the end, though... the kids hanging off of Bucky's metal arm was such a poignant image for me, because this man is a killing machine, was designed to be so, but has remade himself into something else, and this moment really showcased that. Also, that gay-ass ending of Sam and Bucky looking out over the water together and then strolling away, Sam's arm around Bucky? Thank you for my life, Disney, I guess. And we got Bucky calling Sam "Cap," and his obvious admiration and pride in him for his speech... I just love them, y'all. I really do.
I wouldn't say anything about this show broke the mold or made me really excited about Marvel again. I enjoyed it, because I already liked Sam and Bucky, and I got to spend more time with them. I was nervous about how they were going to navigate certain political stickiness, and honestly I think they did... an okayish job. I could have wished for them to go even further, but they didn't take the easy way out, in my opinion.
I hope they make more of this someday. Regardless, I'm not ready to say goodbye to Sam Wilson or Bucky Barnes, so I hope we get to see Captain America and the White Wolf grace our screens again in some project or other!

Light Blast
What’s this?  A death ray movie in which we actually see stuff get death rayed?  Aw, man, that might disqualify it for MST3K right there!  Fortunately for us, however, Light Blast was directed by Enzo Castellari, who brought us Escape 2000, and it stars Erik Estrada. Estrada was never on MST3K but he was on pretty much all the 70’s cop shows they kept referencing, including Mannix and Police Woman, and Mike and the bots would never have let him forget it.
So what do we want out of a death ray movie?  I dunno, some faces melting like the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark would be cool, and Light Blast apparently read my mind on that count because we get the first melting face action before the ten minute mark! A couple of young people go to have sex in a boxcar (this scene includes a real classy upskirt shot, just three minutes in) while the bad guy tests his death ray, and in the fine tradition of kids just trying to bone at the beginning of movies, they get zapped.  Meanwhile, somewhere else, Erik Estrada in a speedo takes down a couple of bank robbers by hiding a gun inside a roast turkey.
Tumblr media
This is gonna be a weird movie, isn’t it?
Sadly, Light Blast never again rises to that height of absurdity.  Evil Professor Yuri Svoboda has a death ray, and has decided to hold the city of San Francisco hostage for the princely sum of:
Tumblr media
Was that even a lot of money in 1985?  According to dollartimes the conversion rate is about 2.5, so that would be $12.5 million today... still seems a little low for a major city.  Anyway.
To show he means business, Svoboda death rays the announcer’s box at a demolition derby.  Thence ensues a series of extremely uninspired car chases and a scene in which Estrada is repeatedly kicked in the avocados by a woman dressed as a nurse (I liked that bit).  Eventually he puts the pieces of the puzzle together, and never even bothers to tell us what the finished picture looks like before running off to what looks like it’ll be the final Power Plant Confrontation.  No such luck.  Svoboda escapes again, and Estrada has to chase him down to the final final confrontation.
There are two things here Castellari seems to really like. One is digital clocks, which are frequently the focus of the death ray for some reason.  The other is men staggering around on fire, filmed in the type of loving slow motion that turns this agonizing death into a moment of over-dramatic hilarity.  Remember in the Making Of Documentary for Return of the King, when Peter Jackson acknowledges that Denethor falling off the top of Minas Tirith while on fire is ridiculous?  Enzo Castellari is definitely not that self-aware.
Tumblr media
He is also fond of car chases.  There are three or four of them in Light Blast and they’re competent, I guess.  They’re definitely better than the budget version you sometimes see in really cheap movies, in which the camera turns to watch one vehicle pass by, then repeats the shot with another.  There was probably a storyboard and so forth.  But they’re still pretty monotonous and mostly just look like people driving around with no sense of a destination or a narrative.  Instead, the movie tries to add interest by giving them ‘gimmicks’.
In one of the chases, Estrada doesn’t want the villain to know he’s being followed, so rather than using his own vehicle, he just hops into random people’s cars and makes them do the following.  In one he shows his badge and tells the driver he’s a cop. In another he tells the woman driving that he’s playing a practical joke on a friend from college.  Astonishingly, he never gets slapped or shot.
In another, he steals a race car in order to chase down Svoboda, who is fleeing to a boat from which he plans to death ray the entire city or something.  This chase includes two separate shots in which Estrada jumps the race car over some obstacle in his way, again filmed in slow motion.  In neither was there any sort of ramp to get the car off the ground. It’s like that scene in Speed where the fucking bus somehow jumps over a gap in the highway except they did it twice and slowly to give the audience time to think about how stupid it is. Then Estrada jumps the car again onto Svoboda’s boat, which has already left the dock, and somehow manages to stop on a dime rather than falling into the water.
I recognize that movies are not bound by the laws of physics, but those that get away with breaking them do so by walking a fine line. Things have to look possible. People running away from explosions looks like it should work, and very few of us have ever been in a position to find out what it’s actually like first-hand (partly because those of us who have probably didn’t live to tell about it).  The car jumps?  Nah.
Tumblr media
Wikipedia includes a couple of reviews of this film that have been translated, not very well, from Italian.  They’re kind of hard to understand but they do seem to fixate on the preponderance of car chases.  They also reference another staple of 80’s action movies, which is excessive police brutality.  Estrada shoots a whole bunch of people, breaks into a power plant and a funeral home, steals cars, causes a dozen accidents and untold property damage, and bullies his girlfriend into risking her job in order to get him the information he needs.  Our hero, ladies and gentlemen.
Other clichés drift by.  The villain gives a pretty classic monologue all about how he Showed Those Fools At The Academy and how his death ray will make him supreme ruler of the world and he’ll bring about a new age of peace.  There’s a bit where Estrada and his partner, the Tall Guy (these characters do have names, I just don’t care) sit down at the kitchen table and put together what they’ve learned… but instead of some exposition to tell us, the audience, what that is, we get a Ryan And Shane Look For Forrest Fenn’s Treasure montage but without the irony.  We can just barely hear fragments of voices through this, as the characters talk about it… enough to tease us with what they know and we don’t.
I dunno, it’s possible the audience is supposed to have already figured this stuff out and I just wasn’t paying attention.  I was pretty bored during most of this movie.
During the montage, the bad guys sneak up outside Estrada’s house (which is on a boat?  I think?) and open fire, basically shooting everybody but Estrada himself, who escapes completely unharmed.  His personality-deficient girlfriend isn’t so lucky… but she was only in this movie so it would have a part for Estrada’s real-life girlfriend Peggy Rowe. This bit is right up there with The Phantom Creeps as a perfect example of why Women In Fridges is screenwriting for hacks.  Estrada is already determined to get these guys.  He already cares about the people they’ve killed in the past and the ones they plan to kill in the future!  He is already frustrated by his failures to catch them!  ‘Making it personal’ is completely unnecessary!  Did the writers really think her death would add anything, or were they just trying to fill up their Action Movie Cliché Bingo card?
Tumblr media
In the villain’s evil monologue, Svoboda reveals that apparently Estrada killed his wife?  I guess she was the mortician?  This doesn’t help, because I don’t think Svoboda actually knows that Estrada’s girlfriend is dead and even if he does, she wasn’t his target. His henchmen were after Estrada and Tall Guy.
Then there’s the ending, which is in no way a ‘climax’ and barely even counts as an ‘end’.  Remember I said Estrada jumps his racecar onto Svoboda’s boat?  This knocks the death ray over and it melts Svoboda himself.  Estrada watches this, then basically just shrugs and walks the fuck away.  So… that was it?  No confrontation?  No fight? Just a failure to properly secure the superweapon?
Tumblr media
Isn’t the rest of the boat gonna melt now, too?  In previous uses the death ray seemed to melt things over a fairly wide area.  Isn’t anyone worried about that?  No, we’re just rolling the credits?  Okay, fine. At least the movie’s over.
Is there anything nice I can say about Light Blast? Well… I guess it passes the Bechdel Test.  There’s a bit, completely irrelevant to the plot, where two women who work at the police station discuss perfume.  It’s as if one of the writers had read about the Bechdel Test and shoved that in there just to pass it, without bothering to think about what the point of the ‘test’ is.
For all I’ve bitched about it, Light Blast isn’t a full on disaster.  It’s merely a mediocre 80’s action movie.  What makes it so damn disappointing is the wackiness of that early scene with Estrada in his underwear and the gun in the turkey.  That bit has the same effect as naming your movie Hercules Against the Moon Men – it gives the audience the impression that you have a sense of humour, and then the rest of the film can be nothing but the slow downward spiral of realizing that you were, in fact, serious.  Even then, it still could have been fun if the writers and director had kept up that kind of cheese throughout but no… Light Blast couldn’t even be bad enough to be good.
If any of you MSTies reading this are aspiring film-makers, let this be the lesson for you: the introduction of your main character sets the tone.  Do that wrong, or in a way that doesn’t match the rest of your movie, and you’re sunk. And if you only have one interesting or funny idea, for love of Apearlo put that at the end of the movie, not the beginning!

INTERVIEW: So I'm a Spider, So What? Fei Voice Actor Eri Kitamura
Tumblr media
In coordination with the current season of So I’m a Spider, So What?, Crunchyroll News was given the opportunity to officially translate interviews with the staff and cast of the series. You can read the original Japanese interview with Eri Kitamura right here.
The interview was conducted by Daisuke Iwakura.
Tumblr media
So I'm a Spider, So What? Relay Interview with Eri Kitamura as Fei: "I'm trying to portray reservedness as a human, and strength as a monster."
"Me" (a.k.a. Kumoko) has obtained Parallel Minds. Meanwhile, on the human side, the Hero Julius has entered the Great Elroe Labyrinth ...
Things are starting to take shape on So I'm a Spider, So What?  For Part 9 of the relay interview series, we speak to Eri Kitamura-san, whose character was reincarnated as an Earth Wyrm. We spoke to her about what it was like to play a character who isn't human.
Tumblr media
—What was your first impression of this project?
Kitamura: I thought it was pretty bold. (Laughs) I think I expected the heroine to be a cute girl because of how things normally go, so I was really surprised to see Kumoko's design. But when I saw the way she was throwing around internet slang, along with the typical video game elements like skills and leveling up, I realized that the story and writing would be just as interesting as the designs, and how Kumoko is really iconic of the show's appeal as a whole.
—When you auditioned, was it for the role of Fei?
Kitamura: At the tape submission phase of the audition it was for the role of Katia, but during the studio audition I also tried out for Filimøs. After that, they suddenly asked me if I could read for the dragon. There was no art or script at the time, so when I asked whether or not I should go for something more natural or exaggerated, they told me to show them what the difference would sound like. (Laughs) I thought they were maybe looking for someone who could do monster voices on the side, so I tried making battle sounds and talking cutely, and at the time, I had no idea whether it was what they were looking for.
Tumblr media
  —That's interesting.
Kitamura: When I was on my way out the door, Director (Shin) Itagaki said I did a good job, and I had no idea if he meant my take on Katia, Filimøs, or the dragon. (Laughs) But something about what I did made them think I was a good choice for Fei, so I'm glad about how it turned out.
—What's your impression of Fei?
Kitamura: Before being reincarnated, Mirei stood out a bit in her class, and tended to get on Wakaba's case, so she struck me as a pretty traditional high school character. The kind of person who is a bit more confident about themselves because they're one of the popular kids. But Director Itagaki explained that she wasn't just a simple heelish character, and that when everyone was fawning over Mirei, Wakaba was the one person who didn't, which is what caused that animosity. Essentially she's a young girl who was convinced she should be the center of attention, and that's why she picks on Wakaba and takes a high-handed tone with her specifically. It's not that Mirei is a villainous character, and that balance was something I tried to be careful about.
Tumblr media
—She does have a bit of a precocious high schooler feeling.
Kitamura: I think so, too. I don't think she was quite what you would call a party girl, but she does come across as playful in the way that high school students who try to seem mature do. That was something I made an effort to get across, from Episode 1.
—Is there anything you're careful about because she's a monster?
Kitamura: Mostly just how monstrous to make her sound when she's using magic. An example of that is the scene in Episode 3 where they are using water magic for class. She becomes more powerful over time, so I didn't want to make her seem too strong from the get-go and tried to establish a baseline for how that she would sound initially instead.
Tumblr media
—During the battle with the Earth Wyrm, Fei really demonstrated her strength.
Kitamura: There was something about that I was curious about. After the battle, she earns the title of Kin Eater, and I was wondering if there was a point in the battle that she realized her relationship to this other creature. It's pretty clear she's realized what happened in the scene right after the battle, but it's not specified in the script, so I wondered when she realized who she was fighting, and asked the director about it. Fei doesn't seem the type to be able to fight while keeping a lid on her emotions, so depending on how that works, I thought about maybe changing up the tone when she has to bite into the wyrm's neck.
—What did the director say?
Kitamura: He wasn't sure about the specifics of the Kin Eater thing, but he pointed out that she would be more analytical and cool-headed than Shun, and that she'd have a better idea of what's going on. Essentially, even if she did realize she was fighting a blood relative, she'd be able to figure out what needed to be done quickly, and would be able to fight normally. That being the case, I tried to make sure that it didn't sound like Fei was wavering or not sure about what to do, and tried to match the way the animation looked.
—You let the animation direct the way you performed that scene.
Kitamura: I think so. When your character's face is on screen, there's always a temptation to try and get across some kind of subtext for the non-verbal parts, but in Fei's case, I generally try to make sure it's a neutral performance unless something specifically suggests otherwise.
Tumblr media
—What's your impression of Fei and Shun's relationship?
Kitamura: They're pretty casual in an uncomplicated way, so I try to make sure that the performance comes across as low-key. She's a bit like Shun's pet in some ways, but instead of her being his familiar, their relationship is more of an extension of the one they had as classmates, which means they're on pretty even footing with each other. It's a bit like she's his adventure buddy and older sister.
—Adventuring Buddy and Older Sister is a great way of putting it. (Laughs)
Kitamura: She comes across as a lot more mature and reserved than Filimøs, who used to be their homeroom teacher. (Laughs) So when Hugo is being prickly, her reaction is to sigh and go, "Oh, well." She's not the type of character to push back when someone pushes her. She's reserved as a human being, and strong as a monster, and I think those two factors form the core of why I try to depict Fei with a pretty level-headed attitude.
—The way her relationship with Shun is so steady makes them seem like really good partners.
Kitamura: (Shun) Horie-kun is playing a character who's more calm instead of a really fiery young hero, so together we both give off a vibe of being level-headed. With these two, there's not a lot of, "Okay, let's do it!" "Yeah!" action. (Laughs) The way that they try to operate in a more collected fashion ends up making Hugo seem really impetuous in comparison.
Tumblr media
—With Hugo in the picture, what's your take on how the human part of the story is developing?
Kitamura: The way they don't all get along despite being classmates is realistic to me. They're not exactly in open conflict with each other, but they're not forcing the idea of being friends, either. The fact that you still have different cliques among the class, even after reincarnating in a fantasy world, gives it a strange feeling of realism. Hugo and Yuri stand out a bit from the others, but I feel like the others don't let that bother them.
—Now that you mention it, excluding Yuri and Hugo, everyone seems to respect each other's space.
Kitamura: That's the case with Fei and Shun, too. Nobody has any idea what Filimøs is up to, and nobody is sticking excessively close to anyone else. They've all got a fair bit of independence from each other. I think Katia might be the one who's most on guard about their surroundings, though. It's that awareness that leads her to warn Shun about Hugo's hostility. There's no telling how everyone's relationships might change over time, which is one thing I'm looking forward to.
—Are there any characters you find interesting other than Fei?
Kitamura: Sue's brother complex is genuinely cute. Half of that is just me finding Yui Ogura cute, though. (Laughs) Other than that, definitely Kumoko. We record separately, and when I see the footage of her and how many lines she has, it always comes as a shock. Her sessions must make her feel like a ping pong ball being knocked around. When I encounter Ao-chan (Aoi Yuuki) in the studio, I always tell her she should be getting paid for three roles' worth this time around.
Tumblr media
  —(Laughs)
Kitamura: The simple fact is that the amount of lines means that it'd be a terrifying role for any actor who can't process that amount of material efficiently, which makes me believe that she's a character that can only be pulled off by someone like Ao-chan. I think a big part of that is that she herself is a bit of an otaku ... Granted, I am one, too, so it's not like I can talk. (Laughs) But the way Kumoko talks to herself and certain things about her speech have that distinct otaku style to it, right?
—I agree.
Kitamura: I think the otaku audience has certain things that they like to hear that they recognize, and Ao-chan is able to pull those parts off. Usually, if you're not an otaku yourself, it takes a while to really wrap your head around slang like that. And you can't just say it convincingly, but you also need to incorporate it into your performance in a way that feels natural and sounds good. With her, you're like, "Yes, exactly like that!" And between the chaotic action bits and the comedy parts, she does a great job of displaying her range.
—Thanks for speaking with us. Is there anything coming up after Episode 7 that you'd recommend people keep an eye out for?
Kitamura: A little bit further on, we're going to get a picture of what Fei ... or rather, what Mirei is like as a person, and I think that'll be one of the highlights for the first half of Fei's story. Not just her, but we'll also see what Shun and Wakaba were like during school, so I'd keep an eye out for that. I hope everyone enjoys it.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT PART 2!
Hello again! Alrighty, now that I have all of that off my chest and took a slight break along with eating dinner and taking a shower-I feel a whole lot better! SO! I will continue with part 2 of my public service announcement. I don’t think this will be as long as the last post, but it’ll be lengthy.
Tumblr media
I will admit, I do have multiple accounts. I have a total of 2, (Possibly another one but I can’t remember if it is another account of if I just changed it.) One of them I lost the username and password to with the name Dark Serenity on Quotev, so I’m not even sure I can get into that account anymore. The other one I have is my current one: MyEternalSin.
I will be combining the two accounts and have writing on just a whole bunch of fandoms instead of just one sole fandom or multiple sole fandom pages. If I get a big enough following to where I have to make a separate page then I will, but for now, I would just like to combine everything I have all in one place.
Tumblr media
On that note, I have my works on a total of 3 pages. Tumblr, Wattpad, and Quotev. I do feel like I need to have my work in solely one place. I think for now I will have everything on Tumblr. I will admit, I am mainly getting my request on Quotev and Wattpad-but Tumblr is a lot easier to navigate and write for than the other 2 websites. Eventually I may post again on Quotev and Wattpad, but for now I will keep everything on Tumblr.
Tonight I will be transferring everything to Tumblr, but will keep Quotev and Wattpad up until Sunday night. (09/13/2020) That way it’s enough of a warning and time to let my followers know.
For any request that has already been made, I will still do so! I already have a list of the requests I need to do and will update either tomorrow or Wednesday a list of those requests and post online for a sneak peak of what’s to come.
Speaking of lists, here is a list of all FANDOMS I will be writing requests or my own personal one shots/stories for:
Attack on Titan
Bleach
Blue Exorcists
Death Parade
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
D. Gray Man

Yuri On Ice!
That’s all I can think of for now! I’ll have an official page of fandoms I write for on tumblr tomorrow or Wednesday to be easier to accuse.
On another note… I do need to make some RULES.
I WILL most certainly do anything cutesy, fluff, romance, feel good, etc.
I WILL write for FemxFem or MalexMale. You just have to request it. Writing for my own I will make it Male character x fem reader. It’s just how I myself identify.
I WILL definitely write Lemons and Limes!
I WILL NOT however write threesomes, cheating, having multiple partners, etc. I myself am just not comfortable with that.
I WILL NOT write rape scenes, maybe someone getting saved from a possible rape but it will never be in detail. My grandma along with my mom and aunts were raped and abused by my ex grandpa. It’s too sensitive of a topic for me.
I WILL NOT write Yandere or anything else like it, just no.
I WILL NOT be writing suicidal/depressing thoughts now that I myself have personally experienced it.
I WILL NOT & NO LONGER write x oc unless it is my own OC story. I wrote an x oc request for someone and got backlash for it. I will not put up with that ever again. EVER.
That’s all I can think of for rules at the moment. If I ever think of more or something pops up then I will add/update the rules. I’ll have an official page of rules on tumblr tomorrow or Wednesday to be easier to accuse.
Lastly, I want to apologize to you guys. I apologize for not updating often. For disappearing off the face of social media, and for letting you guys hang with no updates of what was going on. I promise I will be trying to update as often as possible and be responding to everyone eagerly once they ask for a request. Thank you guys for being here for me and showing support for my work, whether commenting, liking, or even personally reaching out to me. Thank you.
I will now be in the process of transferring my previous stories and one shots to Tumblr. Let me know what you guys think or if you have any request at all!

Examination of Mahoutsukai Precure’s ending
(A majority of this was written close to a year ago before Star Twinkle Precure wrapped up and Digimon Adventure Kizuna came out. If you enjoyed this, maybe pledge to my patreon so I can write more articles like this)
The second-to-last episode of Mahoutsukai Precure is an oddball, unlike a lot of the other ‘endings’ for past Precure seasons. Usually, the big focus is on just beating the big bad and then goodbye. But here, goodbye is not the end. It’s just the beginning. So let’s talk about it.
The final battle of any series, whether that be a book, an anime or even a fanfic is usually meant to be the highlight of that particular work. A culmination of all the events that have occurred in the story with usually higher production value than everything that’s come between - the last hurrah for the team before they head onto the next season.
But as final fights go for Pretty Cure, Mahoutsukai can be described as … alright. In a season where the focus has been less on exciting battle scenes and more on world-building and the characters, the next couple minutes are no different. Sure, it’s refreshing to see the multiple forms of our heroines in one fight. But it doesn’t really show off all the tools that our heroines have. For example, where are most of the minor linkle stones that the show made a huge deal out of in the early half? Surely those could have come in handy here. Maybe they could’ve been used as additional attacks for giant Hana’s bracelet shooter. Just throwing it out there.
But with the dust now settled and the big bad, the time has come for both worlds to separate. But not before Riko casts just one more spell - a promise that the pair will meet again. They click their wands together and part via the forces of gravity pulling them to their respective worlds. Which is the perfect time for Mofurun to monologue about talking to Mirai. Then Riko joins in - talking about the prospect of them meeting up again, with Mirai finishing it all up by promising to meet both Ha-Chan and Riko on the sixteenth-day moon (the 16th lunar day). All while the background goes down the same street - starting with a shot from the first episode and progressing through the trio's journey. Then just Mirai running at the end.
Of course, there are a number of things to compare this ending too - a lot of yuri manga/anime endings (the ones where the main couple doesn’t get to be together/or one of the girls decides to marry to guy), Princess Kaguya, even Mahoutsukai Sally (one of the first magical girl ‘anime’ and also created by Toei Animation). Heck, a big part of previous Pretty Cure seasons endings is that our heroes need to give up their powers and fairies with the promise that maybe they would get to see each other again. Time marches onward and that doesn’t happen, our heroes growing up. Sure, Hugtto did play with the idea of said precure coming back. But then promptly deaged most of them. Because then they could use all the stock transformation sequences.
But there’s another parallel I would like to highlight here. One that probably is going to sound bizarre and out of left field. So let's talk about Digimon Adventure Tri of all series. More specifically, the relationship between two of the side characters - Daigo Nishijima and Maki Himekawa.
Part of the first group of humans to ever ‘visit’ the digital world on top of ‘saving’ it from the Dark Masters, they too were forced to give something up - their digimon partners. Unlike the chosen children/digidestined that would come after, their digimon were to become the Sovereigns - guardians of the Digital World… who get themselves captured and do jack shit in their home universe. Like seriously, by the time that the events of 02 occur, all of them are trapped away and the digital world is once more in disarray
For Daigo, that meant letting Bearmon become Azulongmon and actually be plot relevant.  But Maki isn’t as lucky. On top of serving as a vessel for Homeostasis, she is forced to watch Tapirmon be turned into a beam of light in order to defeat the Dark Masters and seal them away for a couple decades. At least till the cast of Adventure comes around and solves that problem.
Much like those precures, Maki and Daigo’s ‘ending’ serves as a beginning for their story. What little is actually shown on screen.
In the years that followed, the pair finish their education, go to university, graduate and get married. We'll come back to them later, though. For now, let’s return back to Mahoutsukai Precure and see what it has in store for us.
Following a commercial break, we return to 'adult' Mirai heading out for the day. She takes a ride on the subway to a university in Tokyo for her classes. You know, normal adult stuff.
At first glance, this sequence makes it appear that Mirai has ‘given up’ on the promise to reunite with her friends and accepted that such magic could not work now. But, we are only seeing the events at the 'end' of this separation. It's quite possible that she spent a good chunk of time holding on to that belief at first, in the hope that she can reconnect with Riko and everyone else. But eventually, she accepted (partially) that it isn't time yet for them to reunite - that a time will come for both the magic and non-magic world will one day be reconnected.
After her classes, Mirai meets up with her friends to watch a soccer game that involves one of them. While late, she does get to see one of her friends score a goal and cheer him on.
After, our heroine walks home with two of her friends. One of which gets to the subject of seeing witches back in middle school. While Mirai doesn't really say anything in regards to the matter, it does spark something within our heroine's head. A reminder of days long gone.
Back at home, Mirai gets to helping her grandma make dinner. At some point, the conversation turns to talking about how Mirai still carries around Mofurun and how her grandma brought the bear to Mirai in the hospital. The conversation shifts, with Mirai thanking her grandmother for the stories she tells and telling her that’s the reason she met ‘her’.
Let’s take a second to take what she just said. Not Riko. Just ‘her’. While her memories of Riko and time as a precure are still there to an extent, huge parts of it have fallen through. Even in the face of everything laid before, she holds onto that wish - that spell she and Riko cast all those years so they could
But then Mirai’s grandmother says this:
Earnest bonds are your strength. When our feelings are connected, we can make miracles.
On paper, that sounds vaguely philosophical, but not world-changing. But in the context of our finale, it’s the message that Mirai needs in that moment.
After a quick dinner, night falls on the town. Our heroine, however, is suffering from insomnia. There’s no music playing in the background. Just silence. In a way, we’re put right into Mirai’s shoes.
Mofourun takes a tumble, forcing Mirai up. She puts her teddy bear back up, only to be greeted by a gust of wind and a view of the 16th day moon. Which layman’s speak means it's the 16th lunar day on top of it being nearly midnight. Our heroine gets excited, but tries her best to temper her expectations.
She makes a beeline for the park as things come to a head. This is to some extent, a routine that occurs once a lunar month.
What follows is Mirai walking ‘backwards’ - in a more of a metaphysical way. For most of this episode, her mind has been in the present - pushing forward into an unknown future. But here, she ‘fills in’ those on the other side of everything going on. Well, just Riko. But you get the idea. Then she finishes it off by telling the sky above that there’s so much to tell her as the music finally picks up. But it’s not the regular ost we’re treated. No, instead we get the movie insert song ‘Two Wishes’ as Mirai says she misses someone and heads off. Finding a tree of sorts, she gives it a touch. Which results in a strangely-shaped twig falling out. Picking it up, she gives it a wave and says the magical words. Nothing happens. Unsatisfied by this outcome, she drops the twig and begins to make the walk back. But as our heroine reaches the end of the path, she remembers her grandmother’s words. Which is timed for the midway point of Two Wishes so that you hear ‘I want to tell you, I love you’ Damn. You’re not being subtle here, Toei.
Mirai makes the journey down the path once more, culminating in her picking up the twig and running over to the fountain. Once there, we get another
She says the magic words in front of the fountain, asking to see ‘you’ again. So she shouts that sequence again. On her third shouting, Mirai pauses mid-sentence and get treated to a sequence of images from the first episode. The fourth is a similar story, with images from episode 3 through 5 and 9 appearing. From our perspective, it looks as if the show is recapping previous episodes. But from Mirai’s, she remembers all of this to the best of her abilities. It’s like watching something you were in, but you’re manning the camera instead of being in the shot. Or something like that.
Mirai shouts her spell twice more as tears begin to fall down. This time, we are treated to a scene from episode 22 (our main couple reuniting with Ha-chan) and a scene from episode 44 (where our trio are holding hands and cuddling together). After, she repeats the magic words and asks to be together with ‘you’. Then it’s back to her default cry as the scene of Ha-chan disappearing from earlier in the episode plays out once more. Followed by the scene of our heroine looking up at the rainbow. Back in reality though, Mirai shouts the magic spell seven more times. After the seventh uttering, she tells the ground she just wants to see ‘you’ again and finishes off with a please.
Silence comes over the area once more as our heroine’s pendant flashes and the twig becomes covered in light. Mirai says the magic words one more time, followed by ‘Riko...all of you...I want to see you again…’
With that we have silence once more as the twig reverts back to. Mirai is then caught by complete surprise, which is the perfect opportunity for a gust of wind to come out of nowhere and launch our heroine up into the sky. Just ignore the fact that she would be suffering from a possible  lack of oxygen, but no matter. At the very least, the silence has finally been broken by the arrival of music.
She falls for a couple seconds, only for the train to make a sudden appearance. Then it’s back to falling. Except oh no! Mofurun is hurtling back towards the earth. Strangely, the music comes to a stop and a hand grabs hold with a solid thud. Well, something like that. Then…
You should be more careful. Mofurun is your dear friend after all, right?
A smile forms on Mirai’s face. We flip around and find ourselves staring down an adult Riko. All while ‘Sparkling Star 100 Carats of Miracles’ starts up.
Their pendants flash one more time, allowing for the pair to float out and have what’s essentially a romantic embrace - confirmation of their wish grant as we’re treated to a shot of the train’s passengers.
Back with Mirai and Riko, they do a twirl around in the air. The tears begin to fall as they continue to hug. Which is promptly interrupted by Mofurun complaining that they were smushing him. So the couple break away and let the teddy bear have some air. Following their arrival is Ha-chan. Which culminates in a twirl around with a still picture of our trio. The episode ends, but there is still much to talk about.
Let’s back up a little though - post the battle and the sequence of Mirai growing up. Outside of the voices of people talking, the music is missing for most of the episode. Taking the place of it is ambient noise - the sound of a subway, people chatting in class, etc. Stuff like that drives home the big difference between the Mirai of the pre-time skip to that of the Mirai of the post-time skip. Mirai has accepted (to an extent) that Riko is gone for now. Instead of moping about how much she misses her girlfriend and trying to continue living within the memories of those ‘good times’, Mirai chose to move on with her life and seek out new opportunities in the non-magic world. Paradoxically though, she still held onto some parts of those days long gone. Her hairstyle is more or less unchanged, with the same to be said about her choice of clothes. All the same people still hang out with her, even taking the time to cheer each other on at sporting events or just engage in small talk. Mofurun still tags along wherever Mirai goee. But now they are just a passenger in their messenger bag instead of their one and only ‘friend’ that gets treated to one-sided conversations.
Even the music heard here adds to this feeling. Two Wishes is a song about a person telling their lover all the things they love about them and how much they want to confess their true feelings to. To connect once more after such a long time after realizing far too late their feelings the first time around. While the person singing the song with Mirai is Mofurun, they are serving as a stand-in for Riko in that moment.
Sparkling*100 Carat of Miracles on the other hand, is a bit more of an enigma. Sure, it sounds like a song just announcing the various forms our two heroines can take. But within all of that, a line is repeated - ‘Future Miracle! Shine strong and bright like a diamond’. Once near the start of the song and then right near the end.
Judging by the moment it starts up, the song is more in reference to the event that had just passed - the future miracle finally happening after both parties have waited patiently for that one moment to see it occur.
And while we don’t get back to Riko until the very end of the episode, we can surmise that she went through a similar process as Mirai did. She stuck around with her friends and colleagues, trying her best to make it through life. While we're never actually told what upper education (High School and College/University) is in the Magical World, Riko was able to score a job as a teacher. All so that when the time comes, she is able to see Mirai again on top of possibly helping support her financially. Like some sort of old married couple.
Which brings us right back to Maki and Daigo. When we last left off with the pair, they had gotten married. Such bonds were sadly not meant to last, however. The marriage fell through and they got a divorce after an unknown number of years
Now in Tri proper, they’re two divorcees reluctantly working together as part of their government job. Said job involves keeping an eye on the cast of Digimon Adventure except for Kari and TK for some reason. Well, that’s Daigo’s job at least. Maki though, never really left the moment of Tapirmon’s death. A little girl trapped in the body of an adult, her only wish is to reunite with her partner and be useful in the eyes of Homeostasis. A task that she put all her eggs into one basket, pushing everyone and everything else out of her life out of her life until her goal was all that remained. But in pushing everyone out and holding onto her good memories, Maki allowed darker forces in and was swallowed up by her own misery by way of the darkness in a parallel version of the dark ocean.
Daigo didn’t get out so lucky either. Getting swallowed up with Tai (one of the main characters of Tri), the two take a tumble down a large hole. Where offscreen, Daigo manages to impale himself on… something. Or perhaps someone stabs him on the way down. We're never told what happened in that fall or how exactly Tai of all people managed to stay unscathed.
Nonetheless, our pair find themselves in a mysterious laboratory. Except it's holding the main cast of 02 and Gennai for some reason. Tai finds Daigo, who reveals that he’s been hiding things from Tai and crew on orders by way of Maki. And that Maki has ties to Yggdrasil.
Then a guy who looks kind of like Gennai appears and turns off life support for the tubes and announces that he’s going to blow up this lab. Thankfully, one of the tubes is coincidentally left empty. But there’s two people and just one tube. Meaning one of them has to stay behind.
Tai examines one of the tubes, only for Daigo to lock him in. When Tai asks why Daigo just trapped him in said tube, Daigo is all like ‘it’s the end of the line for me. I’ve fucked this all up, so remember me and let my time with you mean something.’ Then he presses a button and shoots him and the other tubes out, expiring from his injuries mere moments later as the explosion passes through the laboratory. While the exact state of his body is not shown to the viewer, it’s likely he was reduced to
As endings for characters go, this is a far cry from the happy one found in Mahoutsukai Precure - preaching on the danger of holding onto those dreams and the possible self-destruction that can result from letting that dream be the only guiding force in your life. On top of pushing the people who care about you out of your life by way of a dream that will possibly be the death of you. A perfect counterbalance to this happy end of sorts.

Out of the Slipstream (Kirishima/Bakugou, E, 15k) - The professional road cycling AU no one asked for but I wrote it anyway.
Beauty, Like the Night (Iida/Aoyama, M, 10k) - A classic example of having to write the fic you want to read. Iida has a crush on Aoyama but it isn’t proper for a future hero to lust after his classmates.
Spark (Endeavor/Hawks, E, 2k) - When what Keigo thinks is a casual hookup suddenly becomes something more.
There’s also a week’s worth of BNHA Fluff Week Drabbles I wrote in June.
From my past year of writing…
My best story of this year: Honestly, probably my Stony fic. I was so raw after Endgame and this fic was screaming to be written. My most popular story of this year (by kudos, comments or notes): Stony again. One of those rare times I agree with stats.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Take a chance on The Note? It’s only 1500 words. Most fun story to write: Beauty, Like the Night. Iidayama is my favorite rare ship and I fucking love Iida so much. Hardest story to write: Probably my cycling au. After thinking about this fic for so long, I really got in my head about it and didn’t feel like anything was good enough. Biggest disappointment: My drarry fics have been pretty off as of late. It doesn’t help when I have krbk basically always on my mind. Biggest surprise: Fun fact - I’m not a big fan of soulmate au tropes so I was pretty surprised Fate Can Suck It was so well received lmao. Honestly though I’ve warmed up to the genre since I wrote this one.
Most unintentionally telling story: Probably Stony again. I usually self insert into Tony but this time I went way into Steve.
Favorite Opening Lines: “We have a problem.” The Bakugou Problem
Favorite Closing Lines: “For now, they can sleep.” the fear of seeing death without ever loving you
Reflection time Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? I wrote a lot less. My goal was 100k and I ended up just shy of 65k. What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? BNHA/Kiribaku/Endhawks. I fell pretty hard for krbk at the end of the first season then came the sports festival and their beautiful ship moments just kept coming. Endhawks I have no excuse other than they’re hot af together and so much opportunity for angst with feelings. What’s your own favorite story of the year? Dude idk. A lot of what I wrote was fun ficlets. I’m gonna have to go with either my cycling AU or iidayama. I know I said I struggled with the cycling au but I’m fairly happy with how it turned out. Did you take any writing risks this year? Not exactly. The Stony was definitely different from my usual style. Do you have any fanfic goals for the new year? Gonna shoot for 100k for 2020 again. I’m doing the Tododeku Big Bang and then I have two Kiribaku ideas I’m going to write. One will be a oneshot and the other will likely be a longer fic. I’d also like to do some sort of drabble event because I really enjoy the challenge with a limited word count.
Decade wrapped
If you’re still with me, I want to briefly reflect on my decade of fanfiction. I’ve been writing fic since 2002 but I fell in and out of it through high school. I didn’t really get back into writing until 2010 toward the very end of college. I met @icicle33 thru ffnet at the end of 2011 and she introduced me to LJ events and fests and exchanges and my writing style developed a ton. I fell out of it a bit in the middle of the decade but came back in full force in 2017 (thanks again in large part to Icicle), especially once I joined YOI fandom. In this decade, I’ve written/posted roughly 600k words (I feel like the distinction is important because I also have about 100k of unposted WIP/outline/nonsense). I’ve made friends, enemies, laughed, cried, met multiple fandom friends irl including my darling @phaytesworld and Icicle, modded and written for zines, and so much more. Writing has always been a way for me to explore a different side of myself, to play in a sandbox with no stakes. I can’t imagine where I would be without it. Here’s to another 10 years and you can bet in 2029 my old ass will still be writing. Should the world have ended by then, you can find me in hell writing porn.

Tumblr media
“I’ve got the TV set up!” Hansol calls out, and Seungkwan bounds into the living room, arms precariously full of snacks and drinks, shit eating grin on his face when he dumps it onto the coffee table.
“I’ve got the snacks prepared, and enough drinks to keep us hydrated for the next six hours,” Seungkwan rubs his hands in glee, curling up next to Hansol, who moves away instinctively.
“No cuddles? Fine,” Seungkwan huffs, pouting at the screen as they wait for the game to load.  Hansol laughs, leaning over to press a gentle kiss to Seungkwan’s bare cheek.
“You flail when you game, kwannie,” he coos, and Seungkwan mutters under his breath, cheeks heating up in embarrassment.
“How about a warm up first?” Hansol suggests, thumb hovering over the controls. “It’s been ages since we’ve had this much free time to shoot zombies. Let’s see who can score higher,” Hansol sends Seungkwan a wicked smile as the game starts up, revealing the dusty streets of Hong Kong.
“I’m going to fucking destroy you,” Seungkwan growls, gaze turning to focus on the approaching zombies.
Jeonghan nearly drops his phone when he hears Seungkwan shriek in anger, and wonders mildly if he should check on the two of them, wincing when he hears Hansol swear loudly in English.
“Who the fuck taught them to swear like that,” he grumbles, yelping when Jisoo throws a pillow in his face.
“You,” Jisoo deadpans, turning back to his laptop to finish re-watching Yuri on Ice. Jeonghan pouts, throwing the pillow back at his boyfriend.
“We’re stuck in the house because of the stupid lockdown, pay attention to meeeee,” Jeonghan pouts, and Jisoo shifts wordlessly, patting the now-empty space next to him, eyes never leaving his screen.
Jeonghan debates ignoring Jisoo, but he’s bored out of his mind, so he figures that a little anime couldn’t hurt.
“Hey that looks like you and I,” Jeonghan comments lightly, and Jisoo stares at him, blinking in confusion.
“Yeah, I had my hair silver at one point, remember? Before I cut it,” he grins wickedly, and Jisoo’s eyes narrow. “And of course, I can actually skate aroun- oOF!”
The loud thud in the bedroom makes Seungkwan and Hansol stop their petty character fight, both of them making a face at the thought of their members messing around while everyone was home.
“Gross... you’d think Shua hyung would have some control,” Seungkwan mutters, and Hansol snorts.
“They’re making up for lost time or something. But forget about them, focus! What about Jake and Sherry? Obviously I’m Jake.”
“Excuse you Chwe Hansol, I’m playing Jake!”
Hansol snorts, and they play rock paper scissors to determine the outcome, but Seungkwan still refuses to accept defeat.
“Fine! Fine! Let’s play that one, both characters are boys!” Seungkwan announces triumphantly, and Hansol agrees easily enough, and Seungkwan huffs, declaring that he’ll be Piers, because the cute, nice, ones, are always better.
It takes all of five minutes before someone’s dead, and surprisingly, it’s not Seungkwan. Hansol grumbles incessantly about the stupid zombies and their ridiculous weapons, but complains even more whe Seungkwan doesn’t make it to him a second time.
“We’re supposed to be partners!” Hansol protests, groaning when they have to start all over again, and Seungkwan just throws a chip at the rapper.
“You’re the one who tried to go all hero and died the second we got into the room,” Seungkwan snarks, expertly shooting a zombie in the head while Hansol struggles to get up, popping a pill near Seungkwan so they both regain health.
“I’m rusty,” Hansol whines, focusing his stare onto the screen. “Just you wait.”
Three hours, four chapters, three bags of chips, and six cans of soft drinks later, the tables have turned indeed. Hansol seems to know where to go, the weak spots of every zombie, and where those elusive emblems are, while Seungkwan barely manages to stay alive, consistently lagging behind Hansol and getting attacked. Hansol’s death count is at a whopping two, while Seungkwan’s died twice in the last ten minutes.
“It’s so not fair okay! They’re all targeting me! This game is rigged,” Seungkwan complains, throwing down his remote down in frustration when he dies yet again.
“Seriously, kwannie, just run. Don’t try and shoot,  just run,” Hansol yells, cursing loudly when Seungkwan nearly gets crushed (again), and they finally, finally, make it to the underwater tunnels.
Hansol sighs as Seungkwan flails uselessly, plunging to his fiery death another sixteen times before the finally make it out, and he sets his controller down to watch the disaster that is chapter five of Chris and Piers’ story unfold.
Hansol sneaks a glance at Seungkwan, who stares at the screen in horror as Piers’ tragic fate is revealed before his eyes. He frantically presses buttons to learn about his new… skill, yelling at the TV incoherently as he attacks the boss with his newly acquired skill set.
The final credits roll, and Suengkwan is ugly crying, wailing about the unfairness of it all. Hansol’s… not as affected, and he just wraps an arm around his boyfriend, patting his head comfortingly.
“Why aren’t you crying about it?” he wails. “It’s- it’s tragic!” he sobs into Hansol’s shoulder, and Hansol wills himself not to laugh at Seungkwan’s reaction to the ending.
“I’ve played this before. Knew it was going to happen, just wanted to see your reaction,” Hansol shrugs offhandedly, almost falling off the sofa when Seungkwan shoves him hard. He really shouldn’t laugh, but Seungkwan’s attempt at being angry, with his red rimmed eyes and tear stained cheeks, is just too adorable to fear.
“You’re a dick,” Seungkwan huffs, getting up to put some cold packs so his eyes don’t swell, while Hansol lounges on the sofa, starting another round of quickfire zombie killing. “And you owe me cuddles later!” he yells.
Hansol just hums his agreement, eyes trained on killing all the zombies on screen while Seungkwan works through his grief.
Half an hour later, and Hansol’s mostly kept his word. They’ve been shooed off to bed by Seungcheol, who claims that anyone in maknae line isn’t allowed to watch the movie they’re about to play.
“Just you wait, Choi Seungcheol,” Seungkwan grumbles, face nestled comfortably on Hansol’s chest as SEVENTEEN crack videos play in the background. “One day they’ll catch us, then they won’t shoo us away like little kids anymore.”
Hansol shakes his head, kissing the side of his boyfriend’s head gently. “S’not like we don’t know what they’re watching,” he answers nonchalantly. “Besides,” he smirks, tossing his phone aside and turning to Seungkwan, eyeing the vocalist wickedly. “The real thing is so much more fun.”

“Do overs are cliché, and in the movies something always goes wrong, but if you really had the chance, you’d do it, right?”
Wish fulfilment AU where Kotetsu is hit with the cliché ‘Back in my younger body with all my memories’, and despite being genre savvy, goes for it with all he has for the sake of his partner and all those in his life.
After waking up back in his childhood home, he realises its close to the Brook’s death date. He legs it to the train station in the snow, only briefly saying goodbye to his brother in a ‘I have to do this’ way. He makes the trip to the city on his own, legging it to the Brooks home through bursts of his NEXT power, where Samantha lets the exhausted and frozen boy in, tending to him as he pants out how he need to speak to the home owners. A tiny and curious Barnaby Jr sneaks a look, and Kotetsu has to do his best not to shout out ‘Bunny!’ at the adorable child.  He does start chatting to the boy, and Samantha makes them both warm drinks.
When the Brooks return, they’re surprised by their visitor, but agree to hear him out seeing as he’d come all that way. Tiger lies that he’s a NEXT with the ability to see into the future, saying he’d had a dream the previous night that something bad was going to happen. He ‘remembered’ reading about the Brook’s work, and that was how he knew who they were. When they question the legitimacy of his predictions, he tries to quickly think of how to make the lie more believable. He says that they’re usually only small things, like tripping and spilling his cereal on his brother, or being chased by a dog on the way to school, but what happened in the vision made him want to try change it. They ask for details, but he gives a side glance to the younger boy. Getting the hint, they ‘remind’ Samantha that she and Barnaby were going out in a bit, and they should get ready.
Now with them out of the room, he retails the vision Bunny always remembered: A man with a gun, standing over the corpses while the Christmas tree burned. They ask for the details of the man, and he says glasses and a mole. They immediately guess Maverick, and Emily is mostly shocked the man is armed. “Wait, you don’t trust him?” “As a good of a friend he’s been, we couldn’t overlook the illegal use of our company’s weapons production for his pet TV show. We were going to confront him tonight about it, but if he’s going to be armed…” As an extra push, Tiger explains his visions are seen from other peoples perspective, and that the murder would be seen by their son.
They say they believe him, and Tiger is honestly kinda surprised. “Wait, you’ll believe me, just like that?” “Considering the NEXT HeroTV has shown us, it’s not hard to believe one could see a day into the future.”  As an extra, they even decided to all go out to see the Christmas display, and postpone their chat with Maverick. They take Tiger back to the train station, but he lingers in Sternbild to make sure nothing happens that night. It doesn’t, and once he was home, he later sees on TV that Maverick was arrested for conspiracy with a terrorist group, and heroTV was shut down. Kotetsu is happy that the Brooks will continue to live with their son, but a little sad his dream career will no longer exist.
Time continues, and he realises he’s got to live out his life once more, so why not do what he can? High school plays out much the same with Antonio and Tomoe, however he is very pushy about Tomoe checking her health, even doing all he can to earn money for visits to larger hospitals. NEXT’s don’t have the greatest likeness without heroTV, however a new smaller program airs about NEXT helping around Sternbild and even afar, all sponsored by the Brooks company. Kotetsu doesn’t have good enough grades or coordination to join the police, and mostly ends up job hopping, while still trying to re-build old contacts like Ben and Nathan. Kaede still comes into the world. The Kubaragi’s both apply for positions at the relatively new school for NEXT, and are given an apartment so they can move to Sternbild. Kotetsu gets to re-meet Ivan and Paolin, as numerous overseas NEXT are also applying to the school, and some of the out of school hours support they provide lets him meet Katrina, as well as a few adult NEXT (Guess what, also partly caught in the Maverick scandal, the Petrovs don’t fall apart! Yuri becomes a nice lawyer who helps NEXT and has zero need for hero hating!)
And after all these years, Barnaby visits the school because the Brooks sponsor it and he actually thought up the school idea because its totally fun growing up with powers that give you sensory overloads. And let me tell you the extreme emotional conflict Kotetsu has because he can see Barnaby is genuine and happy but also there’s no reason now for the two of them to ever team up and fight together and he has always missed that. And they finally get to talk together, and Barnaby tells him how once a kid came to their house and told his parents that someone as going to shoot them, so they ended up going out for the day and getting the man arrested later on. And that kid was called Kotetsu Kubaragi, but he said he had precog NEXT powers, not physical, so whats the truth? And Tiger just laughs. And Laughs. And hugs him, and says “I’ve missed you Bunny”

Violet Evergarden I: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll (Review)
Tumblr media
As the train on which she rides approaches its destination, Violet Evergarden sees a palatial school atop a lush hill, surrounded by a picturesque village. But the next shot quickly establishes dissonance between that beauty and the life experienced within, as a young lady with messy auburn hair coughs asthmatically into a gloomy room only dimly lit through a window overlooking the glorious view. She states her name and remarks, “This is the prison that I am living in,” juxtaposed against black gates closing behind Violet as she enters the grounds. Thus begins Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll, with the injured hero taking on perhaps her most challenging job yet—teaching societal manners to Isabella York, a woman whose need of such education exposes an impoverished past, and whose lack of courtesy was born out of the hurt from the experience of love and loss.
Funimation’s release of the first full-length Violet Evergarden film is an appetizer for Violet Evergarden The Movie, which will premiere in Japan in April. Based on a chapter from Violet Evergarden Gaiden, a light novel volume of side stories from the franchise, Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll is more like an extended episode than a film proper—which is not entirely a bad thing. The strong formula previously established continues to press hard on the emotions, while favorites from the cast are given cameos (and sometimes more) and new characters take the stage.
youtube
Functionally, the movie has two parts. The first half focuses on the job Violet takes to teach manners to Isabella, a woman related to the royal family, leading up to a debutante ball and eventual marriage. Violet, for the initiated, started the series as a woman of extremely poor habits. Raised as weapon of war, she enters civilian life without the necessary tools to adjust. Her choice of career as an auto memory doll, a woman who writes letters on behalf of clients who need assistance in conveying their words, thoughts, and emotions, is an odd choice at first for one who expresses so little feeling herself. She perseveres, however, and along the way learns about the nature of love, which is her endmost goal.
But by the time of this story, which takes place after the events of the anime series, Violet has grown to a place where she can teach Isabella, but the response from her client (who had this force upon her by her family) is tepid at best. While she’s lacking in knowledge, more importantly, Isabella does not want to learn and is experiencing both physical sickness (asthma it seems) and depression. The appearance of Violet, who is the picture of beauty and perfection, turns Isabella off further, though exposure of Violet’s mechanical hands begins to open the relationship between two women who may understand each other more than either would expect.
The story flows in typical Violet Evergarden fashion. I was especially reminded of the astronomy episode, itself referenced in the film, where Violet’s partner warms toward her and makes an intimate connection. In this movie, Isabella and Violet begin to act both as friends and sisters, with a slight yuri vibe also present, particularly expressed through dance and the admiration of the other girls (a common anime trope), bringing to mind the famed dancing of Utena and Anthy (Revolutionary Girl Utena), which the episode seems to be emulating. Yet the film keeps a sense of authenticity, as does the franchise as a whole. Although the hallmark of Violet Evergarden is a tear-inducing finale, it never—neither in Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll nor the show—feels disingenuous. Improbable situations, epic circumstances, and violent outpourings of the heart happen because that’s where the story takes us, and Isabella’s tale is engaging and heartfelt as any in the franchise.
It’s unfortunate, then, that the second half of the film, which focuses on Isabella’s past and future while bringing another character into the center of the account, isn’t as strong as the first. The new character is lovable and captivating on her own, but there hangs a feeling that her portion is window dressing, the true “side story” to Isabella’s tale. While part of the wonder of Violet Evergarden is its restrained storytelling—in its post-Edwardian setting, the slow build-up of each narrative, and Violet’s measured progression—which opens into a flood of emotion based on what she learns about the nature of love, the second half of Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll takes a side road that halfway fulfills the whole and halfway extends it too long. The usual triumph of emotion at the end is in place, but it’s muted from the long mini-episode preceding it. More jarring, perhaps, is that the second segment occurs four years into the future, and my mind couldn’t stop thinking this thought, even if it lacked real significance: Only one character seems to have made a major life change by this time, and she’s not even part of the main cast.
Though Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll may have been better served with a shorter run time, it’s still a wonderful work to absorb and feel. Violet Evergarden is one of anime’s most beautifully animated series, and the movie follows suit. Every scene is a work of art (the dance scenes are particularly gorgeous), carefully crafted and consciously directed. And the winding road the writers and director take is defensible, but more than that, it feels quite in line with the path of the franchise itself. Both lauded and criticized when the series originally aired, Violet Evergarden has since triumphed as a unique and creative work in anime. And this film, and the one to follow it, became involved in a more treacherous path, with both in various stages of production when a perpetrator set fire to Kyoto Animation’s studio, leading to the death of 36 employees and injuries to many others. Despite the tragedy, Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll premiered on its scheduled date, and now American audiences are blessed to be able to watch as well. And perhaps it’s that connection to tragedy, art, and determination that speaks most highly to the significance of this film, for if Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll is “as usual” from the animators and staff of Kyoto Animation, even as a side story, KyoAni’s “usual” is authentic, remarkable, and lovely. May we never take such work for granted. And may we never forget the creativity, love, and passion by those that craft such wonderful tales.
