See an exclusive first look at Darren Criss’ return to Broadway in Maybe Happy Ending
The "Glee" actor stars as a Helperbot named Oliver, opposite Helen J. Shen making their Broadway debut as Claire.
There’s nothing new about an awkward meet-cute turning into a love story… But what if that love story is between two robots?
That’s the question posed by Maybe Happy Ending, a new musical coming to Broadway this fall, starring Emmy-winning Glee and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story actor Darren Criss. The show also marks the Broadway debut of Helen J. Shen (The Lonely Few) and Dez Duron (The Voice).
Featuring a book by Will Aronson and Hue Park, with music by Aronson and lyrics by Park, Maybe Happy Ending is helmed by Tony Award winner Michael Arden (Parade, Once on This Island), with scenic design by Dane Laffrey (A Christmas Carol).
Ahead of its debut, Entertainment Weekly has your exclusive first listen to the show, with a music video of Criss and Chen’s emotional duet, "When You’re in Love.”

The musical — a big hit in its native South Korea, winning six 2016 Korean Musical Awards and the Richard Rodgers Production Award for the English-language version — made its American debut at Atlanta’s Alliance theater in 2019. Now the show is coming to the Great White Way with Criss and Shen as Oliver and Claire, two outcast HelperBots whose initial awkward encounter evolves into an unexpected relationship.
“There's a real pathos that kind of snuck up on me with these two,” Criss told EW of the HelperBot romance. “You think, 'Oh, cute, like androids falling in love, that sounds sweet.' But there's a lot more to that when you start to examine what it is to not only love something or someone, but the inexorable, unavoidable back end of love, which is loss.”
Oliver is living the simple life of an outdated HelperBot when the story begins, tending to plants and listening to jazz in his one-bedroom apartment on the outskirts of Seoul. Then Claire comes by to borrow a charger, and changes everything. The video finds the HelperBots united by emotion, yet far apart as they process the swirling feelings of being in love for the first time.
“When you’re in love, you’re never satisfied,” they lament. “The thing you want is always out of reach.”
By the end, they’re piecing together both the joys and painful realities of their newfound feelings. They sing, “Now I’m hoping that you feel all the things I feel / Wishing that you want me to sit beside you /Wanting now to learn all the things you are / Waiting for a chance to invite you in my heart.”
If the prospect of seeing two bots find love isn’t enticing enough, Criss jokes that empathizing with the characters will at least give audiences a leg up in the AI apocalypse.
“If there's any incentive to come see the show — other than a wonderful theatrical experience with a lot of beautiful universal themes and all that great stuff and fantastic music, and hopefully good performances — if not that, it's at least to soften the punishment and wrath of the AI takeover,” he laughed.
Maybe Happy Ending begins previews at the Belasco Theatre on Wednesday, September 18. Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning on Thursday, June 6 at 10AM.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Can you start by telling me a little bit about Oliver and what's at the core of this character for you?
Well, I'll tell you what, this is the first time I'm ever really doing any kind of talking about a show that I haven't had much familiarity with yet. And I'm not saying that to avoid talking about it so much as to highlight the unique nature of my involvement in this show because, at least if we're talking about the theater, specifically Broadway Theater, every show that I've ever done came with something of a legacy and was a show that I would have been very familiar with, and I think audiences at large, for the most part would've had a history with it.
How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying was my Broadway debut, massively popular, classic Broadway show, people knew it. Second one was, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, I grew up as a teenager loving that show. And then the revival of American Buffalo, that's now a standard contemporary American classic and studied that in drama school and yada yada yada. So when talking about the show, I had a really good handle because the show had lived with me for most of my life. [Maybe Happy Ending] is a brand new show, which is wildly exciting.
But I have yet to figure out that answer. I can tell you what his core is on paper, which is that Oliver is a Helperbot, something like a hundred years in the future where our technology helpers — in the way that we have our Alexas, and our Siris, and our digital systems, and our smart assistants — have evolved into more humanoid representations. He is a Model 3 in the world of Model 5's and is very much outdated, and kind of running the last of his powered up life in the world that we're watching him and coming to grips with the things that left him behind.
We got a little taste of it in the music video, but what do you think it is about the Oliver and Claire relationship that people will respond to? Or what did you respond to?
There's nothing like being able to look at ourselves by looking through the eyes of things that aren't us. I find the most I'm ever moved about the human experience comes from animated films where you have non-human characters trying to figure out human emotions. It's a really great way for audiences to subconsciously look at their own experience objectively. It's funny that it takes inhuman characters to examine humanity in a way that feels somehow accessible. If you see yourself up there, it maybe hits too close to home. But you might think about it a little differently if you're suddenly looking at things through the objective lens of a true outsider — be it a cartoon fox or a mermaid wanting to be human.
So having said that, this is a story about two HelperBots, two robots “falling in love." Of course, they're not human, so they can't physically, literally intimately actually fall in love, but they have to sort of figure out what that means by way of how they've experienced human beings themselves, by cues they've gotten from their own owners and from the world around them. And when you start examining things like love, things like loss through the eyes of non-humanoid things that are trying to computationally analyze and synthesize those things, you sort of start to look at them in a different way.
There are many things about the show — the premise was very interesting, and I think the design is exquisite, it's a wonderful theatrical experience. Getting to work with a longtime friend, Michael Arden is such a joy, and there's so many things about that that make this appealing to me. And of course the music is fun, and it's cute, and funny, and charming.
But there's a real pathos that kind of snuck up on me with these two. You think, 'Oh, cute, like androids falling in love, that sounds sweet.' But there's a lot more to that when you start to examine what it is to not only love something or someone, but the inexorable, unavoidable back end of love, which is loss. And how do we deal with that? How and why do human beings willingly enter this contract if we know that on the other side of it, there is something that will hurt and that can hurt because love does come with loss, whether it's loss of self, loss of wholeness.
And this show really shows a really beautiful balance of these beings trying to suss out thousands of years of human meditation — of all the hundred thousand songs and poems and stories that have tried to help us understand this balance of love and loss, and the highs and the lows of it are pretty profound. er.
In “When You’re In Love” there's the sentiment that being in love is the loneliest you can be. Is that something that you immediately connected with, or was that surprising?
I think that song's very interesting because it's them putting the pieces together. Many lines in the song that talk about how being loved does just constantly leave you with a sense of longing. Which I think goes back into the main thesis, which is love in many ways is loss. They kind of coexist in this yin-yang. It's just one's much more fun and more accessible to talk about, but they kind of come hand in hand.
Again, the systematic exploration of all of the ones and zeros of what love is — it's a lot of ones, but it is also a lot of zeros, and one of those things is being lonely and the feeling of not being whole without a certain thing. Which I think is a really good connector to what this show talks about, which is the function of the things in our life that we lose.
It is funny that we are getting closer and closer to the realities of what this show presents and suggests. The idea that Siri could be a person in a hundred years isn't absurd, it's not a crazy idea. Even talking about things like robots or artificial intelligence, it's an immediate thing that is part of the cultural fabric and a continual discussion about how and where and why it's going to be part of our life.
But even without talking about those sort of more sci-fi leaning things, technology is in many ways, like people in our life. I mean, people treat their phones like babies. We have attachments to our phones and the way that we need them in our lives and the way we care for them and the reliance we have on them. And the idea of shelf life and things being outdated, we're pretty comfortable with. It's more comprehensible with tech and objects. But it's funny that we have this cognitive dissonance between that and the idea of things being outdated and out of its prime is harder to grasp and a harder pill to swallow with people, and it's a harder journey to go on with people. But what happens when our objects become closer in likeness and experience to people?
How are we going to wrap our brains around that and how will they wrap their brains or their programming around that? And how will they feel? Will they feel at all? How will they feel about their impermanence as it relates to ours and vice versa? So there's a lot of really, really nice questions being asked in this show.
Are you finding that it's changing your relationship to Siri and Alexa and your technology?
As of now, absolutely not.
Well, maybe in the future.
Maybe. I'll bite my tongue… In a few years, who knows? She's listening. I'll be nice to you Siri, I promise. As long as you're nice to me when you decide to take over the planet.
Well, after you've played a Helperbot, you've got an in.
Hopefully that'll soften the AI takeover, they'll let us loose. If there's any incentive to come see the show — other than a wonderful theatrical experience with a lot of beautiful universal themes and all that great stuff and fantastic music, and hopefully good performances — if not that, it's at least to soften the punishment and wrath of the AI takeover.

12/28 ( love bo ) day sweets! 🤍
i thought we can get some rest before tomorrow’s busy content day, but i guess i was wrong cause the cpns won’t let up. lol. we are definitely ending this year with being busy! we will get more once we have the full experience of yibo’s new EP and i’m waiting for XZ’s marie claire magazine interview.
let’s start with the most obvious thing we all observed from the teaser, the 🦴 necklace being front and center. this just tells me how personal this project is for him. tho his yearly song is as personal as it gets and is his yearly commitment to his fans as well. but he could have easily worn something chanel for promotion sake since he is their ambassador, but he still chose to use something of his own. this necklace that he always wears. i am usually open to interpretations of cpns, but there are very few that i’m stubborn about and this is one of those. this necklace is connected to xz, i accept no other explanations. i’m sure we will notice more clues but this one has made a lot of us happy 😋
some are also pointing out that scene in the train, the people on it are all bundled up and cold. however, wyb’s character has his neck exposed like that so you can see the necklace. he is also wearing a shirt with shoes printed on it xie zi = xz.
this bit is the one making a lot of cpfs scream. the similarity in the question asked from an xzs video to to the untamed. 🤯
so, have you thought of a name?
we have already takes about everything is lovely that was cued before in xz’s birthday, and now this. it’s like him asking, have you thought of the name for the song? the same way wwx asked lwj about wuji. and this song, everything is lovely is the answer to that. we are very much aware that wwx/lwj is different from xz/wyb but these parallels are hard to ignore. and what if they also think of themselves as somewhat these two soulmates? i think that makes sense too. and oh, if you wanna go more galaxy brained - the date difference between 10/5 to the release of the new song 12/29 is 85 days. are they counting??? we all questioned the new release date and why it’s 12/30. maybe this seemed more like an auspicious date based on that. who knows 🤷🏻♀️
I also forgot to add this when i first discussed the lyric that talks about white hair. this part of the fanmeet where they had to act out seeing each other after a long time. WYB mentioned pulling out XZ’s white hair for him. 🥹🥹🥹
at the time (2019) it seemed like he was being a gremlin and the subject of white hair was for a joke. now, years later (2023) he uses it in a new way. i will love you till your hair turns white. I will love you forever.

• In the behind the scenes video shared by shunan laoshi, who worked with WYB last year, we can see the card case. HAHAHAHAHAHA! I can’t believe this simple thing is one of the strongest cpns we have.
• GQ shared this photo taken by WYB and it reminds us of an effect also used by XZ and XZS. I know this is not some effect that is unique to them and that other people can do it too, but the point is the similarity. you have WYB who has been into photography lately and he is using a trick that XZ and his team have used before.
• a video has been shared from 10c night in 2019 and it really proved one of the things we’ve been saying before, that their dressing/waiting rooms were right next to each other.
• WYB is allegedly listening to this song on QQ. I wonder who comes to mind when he listens to it 😏

“You’re nervous… aren’t you?” you heard his voice from the back of your head. When you didn’t say a thing, he got closer and hugged you tightly. When he spoke again you could feel his breathy and raspy morning voice tickling on your neck. “It’s going to be alright, I promise” he said and planted little pecks in the crock of your neck.
“Hmm” was the only thing that you managed to get out and he squeezed you even tighter, inevitably making you smile, God how much you loved him.
It’d only been a few weeks since you two started dating, a couple of months since you met, but Joe could read you as an expert cartographer, he never failed to surprise you with how amazingly well he had got to know you in such a little amount of time.
“Shall I pinky promise, my lady” he joked and your heart melt because his witty sense of humor never kept you from warming your heart.
Instead of saying a word you just turned around so you could face him, you stared at his beautiful brown eyes for a while before sealing your lips with kiss.
“I really hope you’re right” you whispered.
You wanted to believe Joe, you really did but overthinking would hunt you constantly even if you didn’t want it to. What if they noticed? What if you said too much? Or maybe you’d paralyze and not a world would come out of your mouth? What if none of you were the brilliant actors critics had claimed you were*?
His name and yours had been pretty much the only thing magazines, articles, talk shows, brands would talk about for the past months, since the latest Stranger Things and Bridgerton seasons had aired. Of course you were happy, not happy… you were delighted. But fame could be a devil in disguise. That had been the main reason you and Joe had agreed to keep your relationship under cover. All the attention, the red carpets, the never ending press was new for both of you so maintaining your dating status as a secret seemed perfect, at least for a while.
So when your agent, Claire, told you that Variety had made a call and that they wanted you in Actor on Actors you had got pretty excited, just to get anxious the second later, when Claire had explained you that the other actor would be Joseph Quinn. You had tried to play it cool, Claire assuring you as well as Joe that everything would be fine. “It was just an interview” they had both said and a photoshoot, not a big deal.
Not a big deal if you weren’t so in love with the man, how could you praise his work and ask shit without giving yourself away. You wanted it to go alright and the only thing that easy your thoughts and your nerves was the fact that he was going to be there, if Joe was by your side, it didn’t really matter how it ended up because you would be together.
You kissed Joe goodbye before leaving his apartment, rushing to yours to get a shower and get changed before Claire would appear to drive you to the Variety location. She assured you a couple of times that everything was going to be alright on your way to the set, you didn’t say a word, you were to busy trying to convince yourself about it.

You were sat on your dressing room, a lovely and chatty girl named Riley was busy with your make up after the stylish had made sure your hair was on point, the door opened. It was Nora, Joe’s agent.
“Just popping to say hi” she said gently. “Wow, you look beautiful”
“Thanks” you said shily. “I guess its’s all thanks to them” you joked referring to Riley and the guy who had done your hair, which name you couldn’t remember and had left a while ago.
“Well, there’s potential” Nora said. “Joe’s ready by the way” she let you know, and your excitement increased. You were dying to see him, you always loved the way they usually dress him up, you were sure he’ll look handsome as hell.
“Nice, I’m almost done here. I’ll let Vera know when we’re good to shoot” Claire said and she left the room with Nora “I’ll be back!”
You looked great, you felt great actually. Your anxiety had become to ease and you had started to feel more comfortable with all of it. At the end, you only ad to chat with your secret boyfriend about how an incredible job he had done on his last projects and accept compliments about yours. It should be easy peasy.
Claire came back to take you to the set, where Joe, Nora and Vera, the main Variety editor, were waiting. Vera started to explain the dynamic of the shooting, introduced you to the photographer and the camera technics but, not that you wanted to be rude, but you couldn’t help to stare at Joe from the corner of your eye. They had gone with a classic, all black. And just wow, despite that brown was his color without a doubt, he for sure knew how to pull that all black look. You could see his silver chains hanging around his neck, the black linen V-neck t-shirt letting them being seen and you loved it. His curls all slicked back as usual plus that little rebel lock that always refused to stay back… he was so dreamy. You had to admit.
“Well, so that’s pretty it, okay… just make it natural” Vera said looking directly at you, as if she had noticed you had been completely distracted while she had been talking.
“It won’t be a problem” Joe assured her and smiled widely. “It be fun” he stated and walked to the armchair that he had been indicated to sit on.
Claire squeezed your arm and whispered some cheerful words before leaving the set and you then walked to sit in front Joe.
“You okay?” he asked you in a really low voice, you had actually had to read his lips.
You didn’t say a thing, you just nodded and gave him a big smile. You were okay. All the nerves and anxious from the morning had seemed to volatilize. Being sat in front of him, a relaxed expression plastered on his face, leaning back on the sofa while he smiled fondly at you made you feel like anything else matter. You felt protected, sheltered.
“Okay, hey! we’re shooting in 3… 2… 1. We’re ready” Vera talked from the back of the cameras. She instructed the two of you again, just to remind you on what topics you were supposed to focus, and of course the most important thing, be natural.

“So… I got to confess I loved Kate” Joseph started, “I loved you as Kate. It was simply brilliant, the way you managed to endorse the emotions… the duality between the need to protect his sister and the love for this man” you felt your cheeks turning bright red as you listened. “I- I feel like you really empathize with her, and that’s a really tricky thing to do when it comes to lies and betrayal… at least is what I see”
“Yeah, no I think you’re right” you replied, you weren’t really trying to look calmed, you were. Joe had that effect on you. “I think everyone loves a character that’s honest and kind and pure but also one that has her secrets and demons, and in this case Kate’s demons are well, that she had fell in love with the same man her sister had, which is kind of messed up if you think about it twice” Joe laughed ridiculously laugh, which made you join him “but, at the end it only happened because she wanted to protect her and I think that’s why people can connect with her, that’s how people humanize her because they see that she was acting selflessly but well… she found herself falling in love with this charming man”
“Yes, I guess that got a lot of people attached to the story, but let me say it’s also about you, and Jonathan of course” he did a little pause, as if he was looking for the right words “The way you put her on screen, it’s just perfect. The way you easily connect with Kate feelings, wow… just a beautiful the performance that you pulled out”.
You were fascinated by her words, it was like you could be sat there for hour listening to him praising your skills and your projects, your heart just got bigger and bigger with all the love.
“Well-” you sighed before keep going. “I guess you too know well what’s to be the new hot topic” you joked. “Even my little cousin is obsessed with Eddie Munson!” you exclaimed and Joe laughed only because he was fully aware that it was that way. “But, hey I do not blame her, who wouldn’t? I loved the arch; I loved the way you made him yours. I- well, I don’t exactly know how much it was scripted from the final cut…”
“Thanks” he replied warmly. “Well, Eddie is a pretty nice character to play, I’d say it’s the best I had done so far” he admitted but you of course already knew that, “he was brilliantly written by the brothers, but yeah I think there’s always something that’s yours in every character you portray… or at least I feel it like that” he laughed. “But of course, if there’s no clever writing, you’re lost. I- I got lucky with Eddie I guess, see the thing about him is that the Duffers had maybe a little different idea of him but during shooting, he came that way… it just happened” he explained with way more modesty than you think it was fair.
“And it’s amazing, I mean…” you wanted to listen carefully, so you looked him deep in his eyes, “you know, like there had been other characters but I- and it’s just not my opinion” you remarked “the impact that Eddie had… it’s just mind-blowing, I’d say it’s moving the way you have touched people’s lives and, that’s on you” the enormous smile on his face and the slight redness on his cheeks made your heart warm. “You did so much in such little time screen, you kind of stole the show” you laughed together this time.
“I assume you are familiar with the feeling!” he replied immediately and winked an eye, making you laugh even more.
When you two were done it seemed like you had been talking for hours, joking around fame and easily complimenting each other. You had maybe mentioned more than you should how enjoyable and well approached you had found his Enjolras, making Joe blush again and sigh deeply because you knew that one had been kind of a nightmare for him due to all the comparisons with the original character written by Victor Hugo and Aaron Tveit’s performance back in 2012.
You had found yourself smiling sheepishly at him while he praised you about the last show you had been in before Bridgerton. It didn’t really matter how self-conscious you had always felt about that specific role, Joe had the ability to make every word that came out of his mouth, sound like the truest thing you’d ever heard.
The photoshoot went even better, you had never imagined that doing a session could be that phone, you were used to more formal stuff, but the editor had specifically asked you two to have fun, to be spontaneous. And that was nothing but easy wherever you were around Joe. He had an incredible ability to make you laugh and feel safe, so you were really pleased with the results. The photographer was too, praising the “magical connection” that you two radiated and, not that you were an expert in photography, but you somehow understood pretty well what he had mentioned about connection the moment you saw some of the best ones on his computer. Both of your smiles, the way he looked at you and the way you looked at him, it made your stomach flip. The idea of rumors spreading because of this crossed your mind for a second, but you didn’t really care. The pictures were wonderful, it would be totally worth it.

You were almost done with skincare when Joe appeared in the bathroom, he entered the room silently, but you could see him in the mirror. The sweetest of the smiles on his face.
“So, you think it’s moving the way I’ve touched people’s lives” he said in a playful way. But you look at him dead serious before you speak.
“I do, I was not overpraising you” you said firmly. “I really do Joe” you repeated and got closer to him. He cupped you face, caressing your soft and clean skin,
“You were, a little…” he whispered but you nodded your head.
“I wasn’t! I aint” you said still staring into his brown and big eyes. “I know it’s difficult for you to take it but… common, it is that way, people adore Eddie, people adore you baby, and not just because you’re stunning and helplessly good looking” the funny face he pulled, made you giggle, “but because of you. What you do, what you are”.
Joe looked at you with mesmerize, as if he was under your spell.
“I love you” he mumbled before sealing your lips with his in a tender and caring kiss.
“I love you too Joe” you said against his mouth before kissing him again.

Thoughts & Spoilers for S2 of FX The Bear
Overall it was a strong second season that for the most kept up to the same quality as the first, if not excel in some areas. I loved having specialized episodes for side characters and expanding on them.
It’s interesting to see if S3 will be having Carmy at a crossroads or questioning continuing this path and also still having to meet the profit deadline from Unc Jimmy.
Seeing the growth and different connections that each character comes to make The Bear successful and the dedication was truly just perfect and the writing for it blew me away.
Now I think my biggest critiques are regarding the romance aspects and the potential ships.
Claire & Carmy was so insignificant for me. Idk if they really wanted us the viewers to care about her and the relationship. But I felt mainly more upset that Carmy didn’t believe he can be happy and have a healthy work/life balance than Claire leaving.
I personally hope they don’t try to revive or bring this parking back. Not even as Chef Kiss shipper but the fact that we don’t see the impact that Claire really has on Carmy, what about her outside of outdated/pre-date canon lore to see why she’s so great for him and why he likes her?
After episode 6 to me it was made clear that Carmy is with Claire bc of what she represents than truly liking and “loving” her. She is a chance for him to feel normal and not too much of psycho or fucked up person.
I’d further say that his pursuing Claire and exploring this relationship was almost a way to “connect” to Mikey but also avoid “ending up”like Mikey. In the sense we learned how Mikey cared about Carm’s love life and happiness and was pushing him to be with her and so for him to years later be with her it almost like a sign to take his dead brother’s gift. But also the fact that she distracts him from the pressures of launching the restaurant, it helps eases his fear of following Mikey’s footstep and talking about a pipe dream restaurant but never completing anything or making it successful especially his runs with success were short lived bc he couldn’t handle it.
So then the big revelation falls flat and I don’t really feel bad for her bc once again I don’t see how he or even she could love someone in such a short span but what else did he learn about her and what did she learn about him. They both are in love of what they think they know but not the real person.
She understood he’s special but once again, I just felt like she was there to be a conflict engine and plot device for Carmy rather than a real character and it’s unfortunate but bc if that I really don’t care that she’s gone now. I just said hope we don’t see Carmy really going back to her bc I just don’t think the show establishes enough for me the viewer that he really loves this woman. It’s more of the potential than person.
Which goes back to what I said previously posted about that this very thing, perceptions and the understanding of these characters and would stop Carmy and Syd from being together. Now watching the full season I think there’s a clearer understanding of both shortcomings but also more discussion on not just the focus but what the need and expect from the other that’s outside of pristine persona or imposter syndrome that those two hide behind. And also it’s have to be a final season type of establish relationship if they did pursue Chef kiss bc it really is a slow burn that is remisncent of classic tv that I love. To keep the audience on the toes but watching the gradual affection and intimacy change. Shows keep trying to avoid that but I say keep creating bc that’s one of the most beautiful and profound parts of television imo.
Now for Syd and Marcus I peeped how they were trying to set it up and I’m sorry I’m not a fan. I feel like the dynamic should stay as brother/sister or friends. And it feels one sided rather than Syd is purposefully ignoring her feelings bc I don’t feel she has romantic feelings for Marcus and his reaction to her trying to place a boundary during dress rehearsal dinner me the wrong way.
Also in media and tv shows I find it telling when it seems that it’s more palpable to pair the “only” (in the case of the show they aren’t the only but you know what I’m getting at) two black characters just bc they black (that’s the vibes I get from the ships, but that’s my opinion. Others are welcome to disagree) vs having black female lead with the male white lead. Just saying especially how some in the fandom would rather not acknowledge the established connection whether you don’t interpret romantic or not between Syd and Carmy. But Marcus and Syd is just one of the ones that idk is slightly out of left field and doesn’t need to explore and once again, I bring up the point you’d want to maybe breadcrumb that but why the complete hell no for Syd and Camry? Just saying, bombastic side eye 👀
Anyway I get that like many modern shoes and comedy/frame does writers are hell bent on trying to be so cool and different and unlike others before them by being anti-romance but yet utilizing elements of it and trying add some side plots so it’s kinda like which is it?Just saying.
Anyway a great season, I love really dive into the characters and their history and especially the darkness and mental illness of the Berzatto family like probably the best fucking episode of tv I’ve seen. Just the writing the balance of characters to the acting and the direction like truly.

how we feeling about claire and carmy?? personally… not a fan. simply cause i’m a carmy x syd fan, but for those of you who aren’t how are y’all liking this romantic aspect being placed in carmy’s life??
syd x marcus?? possibly?? maybe?? personally, i don’t see it, but hey! i didn’t see syd x carmy at first either, so. how are we feeling about this little awkward intro of a maybe at them
i’m kinda upset we didn’t get more of ebra and tina in culinary school! i wish we could’ve seen ebra overcome his fears and persevere through school, but i’m also glad he found his place in the kitchen in the end
also SUPER excited to see my girl tina thriving in the kitchen!! she’s really stepping up and falling into her potential, and her confidence in her abilities is growing exponentially. love to see women winning
speaking of thriving, richie!! making something of himself, finding his purpose! his episode was definitely my favorite, not even gonna lie. loved his finding something to be happy about and realize he’s good at managing. slowly climbing my ranks of fav characters
once again, beautiful segue, on the topic of fav characters, syd the kid!! so happy to see her pushing forward in the face of SOMEONES absence, but also so terrified of what this new responsibility will do to her in the long run. kinda really mad at carm rn for pushing off onto her while simultaneously getting mad at her for handling shit?? idk… i felt really hopeful in the beginning cause they were talking about themselves and working on the menu together, then BOOM! claire 😒. how we feeling on the state of syd and carm rn??
SUGAR!!! OH SUGAR I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART. i love how much of sugar we get this season, she’s so… everything. and i think that’s the problem will simultaneously being the solution? she’s always there to help, but she’s always there to help, yk? it can back fire on her and leave her seeming like the bad guy in some cases which really sucks, like in the ep with the family christmas, she just wanted to be a safe space but that ended up being the worst thing in the end. yet with the restaurant, i’m fairly confident they wouldn’t have gotten half the shit they got done had sugar been absent. how y’all feel about sugars involvement in this season??
speaking of the christmas ep, LOVED the chaos and just complete understanding of the ep, and by understanding i mean why carm and sugar are the way they are and why they thrive in the environment they thrive in. it’s what they know, they know how to operate in mayhem. it’s also terrifying that’s the best they’re in.
vv worried about carm and his belief that he doesn’t need and/or deserve happiness and entertainment. as PISSED as i am at him, he’s so much more than that i believe, and i wish we could get this man into some one on one therapy, IMMEDIATELY.

Hello! I’m back to talk about Resident Evil fandom misogyny! Are y’all sick of me yet? Too bad!
I know my source for this fucking sucks (it’s ao3) but since I’ve bitched about the horrible way RE fics on ao3 are somewhat reflective of the fandom before, and bc what I saw pissed me off, I’m gonna talk about it.
And unlike some people, if y’all don’t care about it, I’m gonna put it under a cut, and NOT post my annoying ramblings in the main tag as if they’re facts and not just my interpretations and criticism of fandom wide expression
So I was thinking about making a post saying “merry yaoimas (chreon) and a happy new yuri (femslash re ship)” with the latter parantheses actually holding an re ship. But that did make me pause and think, what was the most popular femslash re ship? I know I have my favorites (claida, chamberfield, and ashuela being most prominent), but I’m also aware that those are rarepairs and probably not indicative of the fandom as a whole.
The first thing I did was go to ao3, which, again, while not indicative of the fandom as a whole, is still large and worth looking at. These three under filters should’ve been my first clue that this was going to be abysmal
8.4k m/m fics. f/f isn’t even half of that. Now, when I saw this, I was disappointed but not surprised, and I stupidly saw the F/M being more popular and thinking “Oh right cuz Leon x female reader people are annoying” (keep this in mind for like two paragraphs later)
Anyway, I filtered it to only contain f/f pairings, so I could see which pairings were the most popular, and I genuinely had no idea. After all, most of the games in the series barely have women interact at all, so like, were people shipping Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine in 2000 because they were the only two female protagonists (who had also appeared in two games), even though they’d never interacted? Did the remakes and recent movies instill people with a love for Claire x Rebecca like I enjoyed? Or did we circle back to the late 90s due to the remakes of 2 and 3 where Claire and Jill were protagonists of big re games and thus people wanted to ship them?
In my foolish decision to think about, you know the main characters of the series that spawn multiple games and are iconic staples of the series’ existence as a whole, I forgot one thing: people on the internet are horny first, and human beings second

Ngl, considering that I’d made multiple posts bitching about this very phenomenon, I was more than a little peeved, and also felt dumb for having forgotten about this. So first I decided to filter out the character tag “reader” and-
Um. I mean. What I meant to say, was that I then filtered out all of the relationships that just came from re8 “fans” being horny. Then I was left with this
So out of THAT list of ten ships, only six of them were actually f/f, the most popular having 120 fics and the least popular having 38. If you don’t feel like scrolling back up, there were 3913 fics in the re tag which were tagged with f/f
So I think, generally, that Claire/Jill is the most popular re f/f ship, at least in the ao3 community. Case closed, right?
Wrong. Now I had to see if that was actually true. Because if I know one thing about re writers, it’s that they include f/f as an afterthought or some background bs to a fic focused on a m/m ship
So I counted, and I did my best to split all fics where Claire/Jill were tagged into three types: background, focused, and given equal focus between them and one or more pairings. Some didn’t really fit, like fics that were just a collection of one shots (or more commonly, collection of short smuts) but those I also left out of the Claire/Jill focused count, because they weren’t focused on them. So after going through all 141 (yup that’s really all the Claire/Jill ships there are) fics, here’s the number I ended up with
82 fics where they were the focus ship
14 fics where they were given equal focus between one or more pairings
The rest (45) were neither
Not gonna lie, I was pretty relieved to see that fics where they were the focus was more than half of the total. And as I went further back, more fics focused on Claire/Jill as opposed to having them be a background ship. Also, for fun, I checked the ratings for Claire/Jill fics
And although I didn’t cross reference, I did generally notice a lot more of the fics focused on Claire/Jill were smut first, and fluff secondarily. Most of them too were also either one chapter (complete or incomplete) or generally just short. If a fic had many chapters/high word count, Claire/Jill almost always wasn’t the main ship, and sometimes shared the spotlight with another ship.
So is this reflective of the whole fandom? No, of course not. Is this indicative of a major problem with the fandom not caring about female characters? Yeah, literally all social media is indicative of it.
It’s not like the media itself is incredibly feminist, or full of meaningful character interactions between anyone, regardless of genders, it’s just not good at it and not really trying to be. But I will say that at large, the fandom does seem to prioritize m/m relationships, platonic or romantic, over female characters existences, their relationships to men, and fuck off if you think they care about relationships between women.
I do have a separate post coming about the lack of interactions between women in the media itself, but that’s for another day

DON'T GO SEE THIS MOVIE FOR VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!
I made the mistake of going to see this film in the cinema, presented as a gay love story. I won't say anything about the ending although I have attached an article on explaining the ending for those who have seen the film. Claire Foy was amazing as always, Jamie Bell convincing, Andrew Scott very moving and Paul Mescal too.
It came out today and I was hoping to cheer myself up by seeing this movie.

Why are gay romance movies so sad?! 😡

I couldn't stop crying and blowing my nose!!
Some spectators saw me and didn't say or do anything to console me, only a lady on the metro because I was about to faint from fatigue! And again, when I told her it was because of a very sad movie, she didn't respond.
This film reminded me of my own loneliness, and I told myself that I didn't want to end up like that. It's difficult to talk about the film without its ending since that's what made me cry. Throughout the film there is an anxiety or boredom, a slight excitement at the rare and brief intimate scenes.
The film is not reduced to its gay character, and the writing is deeper than you might think. And people will certainly recognize themselves in this story. But, even if I am not unhappy in my life, this film talks about homosexuality and what gays experience, that is to say loneliness: and again, in the West we are slightly protected, there there are countries where it is more difficult to be gay. But even laws to protect homosexuals do not bring happiness or acceptance by loved ones or oneself.
How many hate themselves for being gay? But beyond that, the worst thing about being gay is not being loved, because we are made to understand that our life is impure. It is necessary that films about gays exist, but we must know how to give hope. This film would have been exceptional 10 or 20 years ago, but today it immediately goes out of fashion, even though it has never been more relevant.
What is certain is that, as I left, tears preventing me from seeing in front of me, on the verge of falling because I was so heartbroken, I asked myself if my addiction to pornography was not proof that I'm trying to publish the anguish of not finding love.
Because, unlike so many other people, I am deeply romantic and I sometimes disgust myself for being attracted to or wanting to experience the things I describe in my stories. I describe them because I don't necessarily want to experience them in real life. I want domination because I'm afraid of boredom, I want a strong man because I feel weak, I like bigger men because I have been reduced to my small size, black men attract me because I have never had any luck with white men,....
I hide my effeminate side but I feel alive when I embrace it but the disgust in the eyes of those who see me being myself, if it pushes me to want to assert myself more as I am, also scares me because I fear not being loved as I am....
Or maybe it's the fact that today is Valentine's Day, and that even if in France no one thinks it's good, everyone sees it as ridiculous and even old-fashioned, whereas Paris was once known as the city of love, whereas nowadays we only think and talk about sex.
Nowadays love is in the cinema is represented through old couples already formed, or who end badly (betrayal, murder, deception, death or breakup) when we could make people want to love each other again.
Well, of course, this film also deals with parents and filiation, and, still having my parents, I especially thought of my two sets of grandparents, who died.
Well, I could have said more, like the fact that the actors were good, and that, not knowing Paul Mescal, I admit to having found him magnetic. But the most important thing I wanted to say is that while I thought this film would be mundane, it became unforgettable.
And I'm not saying to not watch this movie, but to see it when you are sure you are in a good mood, because i wasn't particularly sad or had a bed day, but i left sadder than ever.

Je n'ai pas arrêté de pleurer, de me moucher !! Certains spectateurs m'ont vu et n'ont rien dit ou fait pour me consoler, seulement une dame dans le métro car j'étais sur le point de m'évanouir de fatigue ! Et encore, quand je lui ai dit que c'était à cause d'un film très triste, elle n'a rien répondu.
Ce film m'a rappelé ma propre solitude, et je me suis dit que je ne voulais pas finir ainsi. C'est difficile de parler du film sans sa fin puisque c'est cela qui m'a fait pleuré. Tout au long du film il y a une angoisse ou un ennui, une légère excitation aux rares et brèves scènes intimes.
Le film n'est pas réduit à son personnage gay, et l'écriture est plus profonde qu'on ne le croit. Et des personnes se reconnaîtront certainement dans cette histoire. Même si je ne suis pas malheureux dans ma vie, ce film parle de l'homosexualité et de ce que vivent les gays, c'est-à-dire la solitude : et encore, en Occident on est légèrement protégé, il y a des pays où il est plus difficile d'être gay.
Mais même des lois pour protéger les homosexuels ne font pas le bonheur ou l'acceptation par les proches ou par soi-même.
Combien se déteste pour être gay ? Mais au-delà de ça, le pire chez un homo c'est de ne pas être aimé, car on nous fait comprendre que notre vie est impure.
Il est nécessaire que des films sur les gays existent, mais il faut savoir donner de l'espoir. Ce film aurait été exceptionnel il y a 10 ou 20 ans, mais aujourd'hui il se démode immédiatement, alors même qu'il n'a jamais été aussi d'actualité.
Ce qui est certain est que, en sortant, les larmes m'empêchant de voir devant moi, sur le point de tomber tellement j'avais le cœur brisé, je me suis demandé si mon addiction à la pornographie n'était pas la preuve que je cherche à publier l'angoisse de ne pas trouver l'amour. Car, contrairement à tant d'autres personnes, je suis profondément romantique et je me dégoute parfois moi-même d'être attiré ou de vouloir vivre des choses que je décris dans mes histoires. Je les décris car je ne souhaite pas forcément les vivre dans la vraie vie.
J'ai envie de domination car j'ai peur de l'ennui, j'ai envie d'un homme fort car je me sens faible, j'aime les hommes plus grands car on m'a réduit à ma petite taille, les hommes noirs m'attirent car je n'ai jamais eu de chance avec les hommes blancs,.... Je cache mon côté efféminé mais je me sens vivant quand je l'assume mais le dégoût dans le regard de ceux qui me voient être moi-même, s'il me pousse à vouloir m'affirmer davantage tel que je suis, me fait aussi peur car je crains de ne pas être aimé tel que je suis ....
Ou peut-être est-ce le fait qu'aujourd'hui c'est la Saint-Valentin, et que même si en France personne ne trouve ça bien, tout le monde voit ça comme ridicule et même ringard alors que Paris était autrefois connue comme la ville de l'amour, alors que de nos jours on ne pense et ne parle que de sexe. De nos jours l'amour est au cinéma est représenté à travers des vieux couples déjà formés, ou alors qui finissent mal (trahison, meurtre, tromperie, mort ou rupture) alors que l'on pourrait de nouveau donner envie de s'aimer.
Bon, bien sûr, ce film traite aussi des parents et de la filiation, et, ayant encore mes parents, j'ai surtout pensé à mes deux couples de grands-parents, décédés.
Bon voilà j'aurais pu en dire plus, comme le fait que les acteurs étaient bien, et que, ne connaissant pas Paul Mescal, j'avoue l'avoir trouvé magnétique. Mais le plus important de ce que je voulais dire est que, alors que je pensais que ce film serait banal, il est devenu inoubliable.
Je ne dis pas qu'il ne faut pas le voir, mais assurément de s'assurer d'être en bon état car je n'étais pas particulièrement triste ou ayant passé un mauvais jour, et pourtant !

001 for Faye x Rinea and Celica X Faye, and character of your choice who you've been wanting to talk about for 002, for the ask game
Faye/Rinea
When I started shipping it
When I saw this art by @ grimoirering. They were so cute together and eventually I started genuinely thinking about them and realizing they actually work together really well and so... here we are.
My thoughts
I adore them. It's a rarepair that works better the more you think about it (such as noticing the various parallels or the spring/winter aesthetic) and can has huge potential for both fluff and angst.
I just delved into a bunch of fluff at the moment, but you bet I want to make something angsty with them one day.
Mainly involving Witch Rinea because I mean, come on. It's right there.
What makes me happy about them
These two are adorable.
They work so well from the village girl/noble lady and spring/winter dynamic, both of their lives revolving around a male lead meta-wise and not and being very unsure of their place in their group, so them finding love and support in each other is just *screams*
And something I realized when writing the latest chapter of Socially Distant and makes this pair even better is that Faye is still a bit clingy and obsessive with her loved ones because that's just how she is (though nowhere near to the unhealthy levels as she was with Alm), but for Rinea that's ironically a good thing since she constantly needs showings of affections to remind her that she is truly loved and not just a pretty thing to show around like she's been viewed as for most of her life.
Helps that neither of them like being at the center of attention, too.
What makes me sad about them
Faye and Rinea's view of themselves is very bad and they tend to struggle understanding what the other sees in them.
Faye is scared of overstepping her boundaries and making Rinea feel uncomfortable, while Rinea keeps thinking people around her barely tolerate her and will abandon her if she doesn't act as this perfect lady and makes the slightest mistake.
It takes them a long while for them to have a better view of themselves and trusting the other not to leave them behind at the slightest mistake.
Things done in fanfic that annoys me
The fact that beside Socially Distant and a drabble collection where they feature in a really short story, there are no fanfics about these two and I'm starving for more content.
I really have to do everything around here, have I?😤
Things I look for in fanfic
As I said, right now I'm looking for fanfics of them period.
Mainly with them as the main focus because them just being a really minor couple in the background wouldn't really count.
Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other
For Faye I'd say Celica or Silque... although Chloé recently joined as another great rarepair option me and @zorua-adorable are obsessing over.
For Rinea, and I just thought of it but am already really into it... Clair would be a really fun partner for her!
My happily ever after for them
Living together and having the coziest, most peaceful life and where they're filled with love and care from both their friends and each other.
Who is the big spoon/little spoon
Faye's definitely the big spoon and Rinea just melts in her arms.
What's their favorite non-sexual activity
I just got the mental image of Faye resting on Rinea's lap while the latter is humming while the two are in a garden of flowers and that just works so well.
For Socially Distant in particular it's watching and talking about anime together, particularly magical girl ones. Weebs.
Faye/Celica
When I started shipping it
Many years ago, specifically thanks to this fic by @ pureauthor-blog. Which, ironically, is another Faye rarepair fic set in a modern setting, so I'm kinda picking up the torch with Socially Distant? Maybe? Hopefully?
Anyway, that's the fic that really got me into the pair and I haven't stopped shipping it ever since!
My thoughts
They are just the cutest!
This was the first Faye rarepair that I started shipping and it's still one of my favorites and most of it is just due to how saccharine these two are.
Another top-tier aesthetic, I adore the childhood friends and village girl/princess dynamic and these two just work so well with each other, you know?
Also, something I just realized is just how similar it feels to Faye/Rinea, which I am not complaining.
...so when Celica/Rinea?
What makes me happy about them
That this one has just a tiny hint in canon.
Well, not outright romantic, but the fact that when Celica returns to Ram Faye is super happy to see her which is so unlike what her archetype would have you think and just one that makes me spiral.
They were best friends. Faye welcomed Celica into Ram and taught her many things like sewing flowers. Faye is almost as devastated as Alm when Celica has to leave but unlike him she thinks she'll never see her again and even if she does she wouldn't remember her anyway.
But then Celica comes back, and remembers her. And the two just melt in each other's arms.
What makes me sad about them
That Faye and Celica could never be together in canon because Alm aside, they just belong to different worlds that can't reconcile.
Faye would be miserable living as a noble or outright a queen because it's just so alien to her entire life and what she cherishes, and while Celica would want so badly to just be a simple girl and live to Ram with her she has so many responsibilities to her kingdom she would never shy away from.
So there's this constant sense of distance and longing, and while maybe there are some ways they could work (like Faye secretly courting Celica and occasionally visiting her), they could never be anything more without jeopardizing who they are as people, no matter how badly they want to.
And while this makes for great angst, this is why I joke that I ship them in anywhere but canon.
Things done in fanfic that annoys me
Not enough fics to have found things that flat out annoy me, so no idea.
Things I look for in fanfic
Mainly for more fics.
And mostly fluff, although I would be intrigued by an angsty Faye/Celica fic.
Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other
Well I already mentioned Faye, but for Celica it'd be Alm of course, Clair would be fun, Mae and Céline!
And as I said before, I'm curious about how Celica and Rinea would be together :3
My happily ever after for them
Living in a cozy home together, surrounded by cats :3

They switch! Sometimes it's Faye and sometimes it's Celica :D
What's their favorite non-sexual activity
Gardening! I like to imagine they have a large garden filled with several flowers. And yes, they still sew them.
And for the character I choose Loptous!
And straight out of the bag, I'm skipping all the romance options because he should not be with anyone.
How I feel about him
Holy shit, this guy is the most evil villain in all of FE and I sincerely doubt IntSys will ever even come close with his level of depravity ever again.
He is pure evil in the best way possible, from his obvious damage on a large scale (the Jugdral timeline at the start of FE4 is just a list of his atrocities) to even a smaller scale to make you hate his guts (Taking advantage of his possession of Julius to drive both Arvis and Ishtar to indirect suicide, and just his relationship with Ishtar is a huge bag of fucked up in the best way possible).
Unlike other evil dragons he doesn't even a tragic backstory. He just things humans are toys to break in so many ways and he turned himself into a cursed tome just to torment Jugdral forever.
He doesn't have a tragic motive to hate humans like Medeus and Grima, he didn't degenerate like Duma.
He's sane and just unbelievably evil and sadistic, and that's what makes him terrifying.
Not to mention the grip he has over Julius. By the time of FE4 the two have pretty much become synonyms, and when you kill him you'd think Julius would die as himself for his last few moments like it happened with Lyon and Future Past Robin, right?
But no. Instead the opposite happens, where Julius is fully taken over by Loptous.
It even extends to Heroes. For Lyon and Robin, their version where they're taken over by Fomortiis and Grima are relegated to Fallen Heroes, but for Julius?
That's his base form.
Loptous has taken over Julius so much that the latter almost doesn't exist anymore both in official material and in fanon. When people talk about Julius, they're usually actually talking about Loptous.
And that is, to me, an existential nightmare.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Hilda. No, not that Hilda.
She's the only one who comes close to him in terms of depravity and that's an achievement in and of itself.
My unpopular opinion about him
Not sure if it's an unpopular opinion, but I think he's the best villain in the franchise, or at least the best "pure evil" one.
And I doubt IntSys will ever surpass him.
One thing I wish had happened with him in canon
I want to see the moment he starts to possess Julius so badly, I want it to be as fucked up as they can get away with.
Can we see it for the FE4 remake please?🙏
A headcanon fact
This is an old one, but I like to think Loptous grew in a hate group of Earth Dragons who rather than just think they're better than humanity they do what... well, hate groups do. Let's just leave it at that.
And then Loptous grows up and takes the hate to even more horrifying extremes in Jugdral.

My Week(s) in Reviews: January 1, 2023
First and foremost... Happy New Year!!
Okay... now let’s get into it. I’m keeping these short because I have little to say about them or they’re going to be featured in My Best of 2022 shortly, anyway, so let’s just go with the old three things format for most of these, yeah? Good.
The Fabelmans (Steven Spielberg, 2022)
1. Wholly feels like the film Spielberg’s been working toward.
2. That final shot is the reason (as if I needed another one) why Spielberg is my favorite director.
3. I’m going to be genuinely shocked if this lands anywhere other than on top of my top films of 2022. - 10/10
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (Rian Johnson, 2022)
1. What a cast!!
2. A ton of fun, and it chooses an approach and sticks with it. If you’re underwhelmed with the ‘twists’, that’s kinda the point.
3. Seriously, though... what a cast!! - 8.5/10
Babylon (Damien Chazelle, 2022)
What a clusterf*ck…
It’s very clear Chazelle lost the thread about 40% in. Cutting that whole Tobey storyline would help. Also cut the opening scene, just start on the party. Tighten up Margot’s arc, we didn’t need that snake shit. Cut Jovan’s arc complete, there’s enough there thematically for a separate film. Give that to someone who can tell it in a way that’ll actually resonate. Leave everything with Brad Pitt alone. He was fantastic and his arc is the only one that felt like it progressed and ended naturally. Beautiful, tragic, interesting shit, right there. Actually loved the ending, but a bunch of other late moments for Diego felt sloppy/rushed. The phenomenal editing helps some of the more upsetting issues throughout, but can’t save the film from the total loss of cohesion in the those final acts. Despite all its many flaws, though, I still pretty close to loved about 65% of this film. - 6/10
Avatar: The Way of Water (James Cameron, 2022)
1. Visually stunning. Probably the easiest VFX win since the last, right?
2. Someone should give Fincher the money for his 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea... if this film is anything, it’s proof the tech has reached the point where Fincher’s vision is not only possible, but feasible.
3. Has James Cameron actually ever heard two people talking to each other? My God, that dialogue is atrocious. (The screenplay all-around, really.) Yikes. - 6.5/10
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (Eric Appel, 2022)
1. This is not only the perfect approach to a Weird Al biopic, I’m pretty sure it’s the only approach to a Weird Al biopic.
2. Very funny if you’re familiar with Yankovic as a person, downright hilarious if you go in only knowing his music.
3. Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna... I repeat, Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna. My God! - 7.5/10
Emily the Criminal (John Patton Ford, 2022)
1. Aubrey Plaza is really damn good.
2. So is just how terribly things go in that third act.
3. The rest... not so much. I really don’t get all the hype. - 5/10
Black Adam (Jaume Collet-Serra, 2022)
1. This is a very bad movie. Very easily one of the worst of the year.
2. Any promise Dwayne Johnson had every shown has been tossed in the garbage for terrible line delivery and tough-guy stares.
3. Pierce Brosnan deserved better than this. An interesting character and perfect casting completely wasted in favor of whatever this shit was supposed to be. - 2/10
The People We Hate at the Wedding (Claire Scanlon, 2022)
1. Not a good movie by any stretch.
2. But Kristen Bell.
3. And Allison Janney. - 5.5/10
A Christmas Story Christmas (Clay Kaytis, 2022)
1. Corny as f*ck.
2. But the type of corny I can get behind.
3. And that Christmas morning was the obvious tear-jerker material I’m a sucker for. - 6/10
The Shop Around the Corner (Ernst Lubitsch, 1940)
1. James Stewart really is one of my all-time favorite actors. Just always so damn good.
2. Love me some Lubitsch, yet for some reason I have so many blind spots with him.
3. I know we live in completely different times, but even looking through the scope of the time, that ending seemed a bit forced. Still a delightful film overall, but she must’ve been really desperate to let the shit he pulled go. - 7/10
Elvis (Baz Luhrmann, 2022)
1. Significantly better than I expected. But painfully overlong.
2. Austin Butler is fantastic. Tom Hanks is (somehow) borderline awful.
3. Baz Luhrmann’s direction is god-awful. But there’s a shit-ton of it, so I guess the Golden Globes look at Directing like the Academy does editing, now. - 5.5/10 (Almost all of those 5.5 are for Butler and the early performance sequences only.)

Thoughts on Caesar Salazar?
Hello, anon!
Oh, that's really easy and a hard question in the same time.
So let me see. It was really interesting and awesome to find out more about Rex's parents and his sibling. Don't wanna to hurt anyone's feelings but me and my friend @varioda talking about Caesar before and we're somehow thought that he doesn't care about his brother and care more for his scientific work but I'll going to look back and giving him a chance.
When Caesar break into Providence in his futuristic armor or something like that, he thought his brother in danger and protecting him though it wasn't necessary at the moment. Rex believed him and go with him. Then brothers have a talk inside his scientific pod.
In episode "Haunted" Rex coming to Caesar for advice to help his friend Noah to get attention of Claire, both of the brothers chatting. They're came up to make a haunted house to scare girls. What a fools. XD
In episode "Written in Sand" Van Kleiss said that Caesar is responsible for Nanite Event. It's really suspicious. There's what Caesar said to Rex at the end of the episode when his brother makes a crack joke on Zag RS's voice. "Don't you recognize it? When I programmed her, I wanted a voice that meant safety, protection, caring. Rex, this our mother's voice."
"Mama?" Rex said before walking away. My feels.
"Night Falls" is my favorite episode. Rex and Caesar travel to a village in Mexico--- home country of their late mother Violetta to see their Abuela though they're not related by blood and by heart cause they're spending a lot of time there at summer as kids, right? It's really heartwarming episode cause I can relate loving my grandmother and spending time at the countryside. I miss my grandma so much. I wish everything was different back than.
Also in this episode both of the brothers working together which is wholesome and funny at times.
Later on somewhere between season two finale and beginning of season three Rex is teleported six months into the future, where he discovers to his shock a radically changed Providence; Six and Holiday have left, and White Knight allegedly died after attempting a "hostile takeover". Caesar takes a confused Rex to White Knight's former office, where he is introduced to Providence's new leader, a mysterious woman who calls herself Black Knight who is very glad to have him back. At this momrnt brothers get apart and I don't want to discuss how it's hurts and confusing me.
Excuse me for being short or that I can't describe every episode and every of my thoughts of him. Maybe I need to rewatch this series.
The ending of season three is heartbreaking. But at the end Rex realized the truth about Nanite Event and said to Caesar that they're always will be brothers and both share a heartwarming hug. I'm so glad they're family again.
I'm actually love Salazar brothers. I'd say I have mixed feelings about Caesar. My finale thoughts -- Caesar Salazar is important and interesting character, not like I have a crush on him or hate him. He's caring and loves his family but sometimes when he's focused only on his job, it's gets twisted. I actually love drama and brotherly conflicts but the most I love the happy ending because it's a lot of bad endings in media and in life, I can give you my life as a example, ooh, wait, it's not a part of the ask. i just finished the last the bear episode…..wow so many thoughts they ate truly wow like the bear is just so fucking good. AND IM GLAD U AGREE ABOUT CLAIRE PRETTY GIRL BUT SO FUCKING BORING AND U KNOW WHAT SYD N MARCUS R ALSO BORING AS SHIT TOGETHER love them separately tho but omg richie…richie man richie made me wanna cry when he kept telling carmy he loved him while carmen was dogging the shit outta him in that freezer ughhhhh i love my bf i literally love him so much i have main character loving syndrome and omg mikey when he was throwing those forks at saul goodman would u be down to like talk more in depth on ur thoughts of the final episode and the season overall and how hot carmen and his brother r n how amazing it would be feel to get a train ram by both of them. also u think carmens got some kind of ocd? i love my obsessive compulsive boyfriend so much

yeah i had to skip the claire scenes because it was just SO boring. syd and carmy have that chemistry and connection i rlly hope this is a slowburn type of situation because i can really see the two of them together. also i love marcus but not with syd. really wish the writers didn't give marcus the unrequited love trope with syd because they genuinely work better as friends encouraging each other rip. hope the next season sees them working better together as friends bc i love marcus he deserves the world.
RICHIE RICHIE RICHIE HIS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!! he just wants a place to belong and i think he's been trying to carve that little space out for himself whether that be in the bear family or the restaurant or literally his OWN family....i get why he was so defensive over carmy coming and changing everything in the restaurant....it meant that he'd be the odd one out again. he'd be displaced and forced to find another place to belong. so so glad he came through in the end with all the orders. i hope the restaurant finally makes him content!! also richie screaming to love story in the car HE'S SO REAL.
while not every semi side character had the spotlight this season i think this season rlly did tina and marcus soooo good. loved seeing tina flourish and come into her own a chef. her smile....so lovely. i loved seeing marcus in coppenhagen like will poulter should NOT be looking that fine kneading bread. but somehow.
but like i said i simply did not care about the claire scenes i literally would have taken any other character getting screen time especially since carmy broke up with her anyway. would've loved seeing more syd and her dad tbh.
im so glad this season finally elaborated on the dysfunctional bear family and shed a little more light on micheal and the person he was. i was clinging to the edge of my SEAT watching that fork scene. honestly i don't think carmy has OCD i think that man has PTSD fjnskdfjsdk like all that verbal abuse from working at the number one restaurant in the world....it makes me think he was somehow seeking the dysfunctional aspects of his household and almost finding comfort in the abuse in his dynamics with the head chef(???) dude. especially since we see carmy unwittingly replicating those very same dynamics in the kitchen with syd and then even in the freezer screaming at richie the same exact abuse that head chef told him. he's useless he's a waste of space etc. but richie choosing to respond with kindness and telling him he loves him.....wow....it was such a touching moment to see and i say that genuinely considering richie also yells at him about how carmy can't let himself be happy. it says so much that carmy himself says that he shouldn't seek amusement or enjoyment which im sure speaks to larger issues than just his self esteem issues. i rlly hope the next season does a deep dive into carmy's family and the dynamics of his relationship with micheal and his mother!!!! i definitely think there's something coming with that considering how sugar is going to become a mother soon and how their mother showed up to the restaurant but left out of guilt.
i need a bit more time to formulate my thoughts sorry i just barfed this out i finished the ep like 15 minutes ago LOL

Carlos Oliveira! I know he's only in the one game but the fact that it made me wish there was more of anything on him says a lot. I love his personality and how he can see the bright side of things even as shit hits the fan.
👀When did you first get into resident evil?
I must admit it was the movie Resident Evil. I didn't know much about the series itself, though I knew the games existed. I love zombies and it was a fun/scary zombie action movie for me.
🏆What was your first game?
RE3Remake and yes it was so I could play as Jill and Carlos lol. It's also the only game I will be able to play because I can't play horror games. First game that I watched being played was RE7 and that one was so much fun to watch!

Toss up between RE3Remake and RE7. Those were my first two games and they still stand out for me as my favorite. Runner up would be Donna Beneviento's home in RE8.

😇A character you wish didn’t die?
Ethan and Elena (villager in re8). Ethan I think is obvious because he’s a man doing everything he can to save his wife and then his wife and daughter. He goes through hell twice to only end up making the ultimate sacrifice. While I can get it, I wish he got the happy ending.
Elena may seem odd but I don’t know, I was honestly really sad when she did die. I had so much hope she would live, that maybe Ethan would have someone to talk to other than fighting all the monsters but nope, they killed her!
🚨Do you have an opinion that is deemed unpopular?
I don't think so? My only major opinion is Jill and Carlos end up together and I think that is received well.
📺Do you enjoy the CGI movies?
Yup! I'm always willing to enjoy a good zombie action movie, though I didn't like how they ended things between Claire and Leon in Infinite Darkness.

Nope but I do plan to watch it at some point. I do think there may be some directions with characters I won't care for but I can still enjoy it as one of many versions of Resident Evil.

Thirteen Era Rewatch: The Halloween Apocalypse
I'm re-watching Thirteen's era in lead up to the Centenary and since this is likely going to be my last full re-watch for a while I thought I'd do a post on each ep where I just go over all the things I love, hate or just have some general thoughts on.
When S13 aired I made a posts similar to this after re-watching each ep before the next one came out. The Halloween apocalypse post can be found HERE.
I still can’t believe S13 started off with Thasmin in a bed together like…
I remember when this ep first aired and when I rewatched it before ep two I didn’t give a single fuck about the tunnel guy. But then by the end of the series I was like oh this is kinda cool
Dan’s first scene where he’s hyping up Liverpool is kinda cringe. Idk if it’s the dialogue or how John plays it but I’m not a huge fan
If this is foreshadowing I will materialise in Chris Chibnall’s bedroom at 3AM
Remember when we had these pics and people were speculating what it was. I remember some ppl thought it was Davros and I was genuinely baffled. I think I thought the eye had Sontaran vibes

I’m actually obsessed with then someone calls the Doctor out and she’s like ‘lol idk what you mean’ but she says it so poorly like she doesn’t even attempt to sound like she’s telling the truth it’s so good
Yaz getting annoyed and frustrated at 13 in this ep is just so amazing idek what to say. This was what I so desperately wanted to see from S13 and Chib really pulled through
Claire interrupting their chat is so annoying. It happens multiple times in this ep and then in 13.06. Like instead of a convo naturally coming to its end, something gets in the way so characters aren’t forced to actually respond and it makes me crazy
Proud 13 :’) I love seeing Yaz be more Doctor-y and I feel like her literally controlling the TARDIS is a 10/10 way of showing it
The whole scene in the TARDUS where 13 says about not mentioning everything is 10/10 (up until the convo gets cut off)
I do think what’s going on with Azure is fairly obvious. She got sent away as her punishment and I assume chameloned, and the warning that showed up was them telling her Swarm escaped. And then when Swarm got to her he managed to reverse it/get her back. I do think more time spent on her might have been nice but also I think all the info we need is literally right there so it’s like who cares idk. I imagine there was some cut scenes and we got left with the bare bones of what we need to understand which is fine imo

Yaz and Dan have a 10/10 vibe literally instantly it’s unreal

I love Yaz doing all the talking when Dan asks questions. Like even before they get separated from the Doctor Dan is more like Yaz’s companion than 13’s
I love that the Vortex energy does literally nothing. Shows how powerful the Flux is
The cliffhanger of this ep is so cool I stg. I even love all the shots to the ppl we met in this ep. I think I used to think it was a bit cringe but this time round it got me hyped as fuck

JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION REVIEW

So at this point I've seen the movie twice and had plenty of time to think it over. While overall I think it was a good movie, I know it could have been better. I was just as excited as everyone else for the OG trio to return, but my overall feelings can pretty much be summed up in that Ron Swanson quote: "Never half-ass two things. Whole-ass one thing."
The choice to reintroduce the OG trio but have two seperate storylines that converge at the end quite frankly means that we were shorted. Ellie, Alan, and Ian's Biosyn locust investigation could have existed entirely separately from Claire and Owen's search for their kidnapped daughter. Those easily could have been two seperate movies with a full runtime dedicated to each one, but instead we got a film incorporating both just for the sake of it and the depth of both storylines suffered for it. The characters we love deserved better.
One thing we lost that particularly irks me was Claire's character arc. Sure, she's changed a whole lot over the course of the series (in between the movies) but it's arguably more important for a character to change over the course of each story. Claire goes through some stuff in Jurassic World and changes as a person because of it. Claire goes through some stuff in Fallen Kingdom and changes because of it. Claire goes through some stuff in Dominion and NOTHING CHANGES. Their story is literally circular, they end up back at the exact same place doing the same stuff and nothing changes. I appreciate the open ending they were given to a degree but it was too much. I'm positive if they were given the full runtime to themselves like we're used to in the previous 2 movies we would have had MUCH more satisfying endings to these character's stories we've spent so long being invested in. I feel the OG trio got better treatment in this area as they each have an arc in this movie, even after being gone for so long their characters still had room to change.
It's been pointed out already that when they aren't pawing eachother up, the ONLY thing Claire and Owen talk about is Maisie. She's their entire plot and there just isn't time for them to talk about literally anything else. After two movies of the "unspoken sexual tension" variety, I adore that we got to see genuine, unreserved affection between these two but it was tainted before it began by their relationship being defined as "weird" and "surprising" before we even got to see it for ourselves. This was never countered in the film, not once did we see Claire and Owen define or establish anything for themselves, it was all left to subtext. I want to point out I've been bracing for what I thought would be the inevitable Hollywood-happy-ending where they get married and have babies so I'm glad to see something different but I still can't believe we got NOTHING. (Also- we get an "I love you" from Owen but not from Claire! Neither of these two idiots have ever been good at expressing emotions so this is a big step for Owen but surely we could have spared two seconds for her to say it back!!! THERE'S TOO MUCH SUBTEXT WE NEED TEXT DANGIT)
My heart aches at the thought of what was left on the cutting room floor and I genuinely hope there's an extended version released someday because this movie is begging for more time to breathe. Owen and Claire lost their chemistry, the movie forgot Claire had a character arc, and even more questions have been raised about Maisie. I really really don't want to call this movie a disappointment but I can't argue with the people saying it was. It obviously depends on what you expected to get out of it; it was in itself a very good action film, but that's not what the Jurassic movies have been, there's always been more to them. I genuinely left the theatre thinking "That's it?" and comforted myself because I knew the fandom would fill in the gaps. But really, we shouldn't have to.
TLDR: it was a good movie but I feel like it hurt itself trying to do too much at once and squeeze the OG trio into a film that should've had Claire and Owen at the focus.

— make my wish come true: i think the story is a lot of fun. i loved wiring all human au but also i just think the characters are are really funny, sweet and well written. i like the jokes i put in the fic and i love their development
— songs that make sense: okay sooo. this one is kind of special because it’s my head canon that gamora carries a lot of guilt. then again, it’s not really a head canon, is it? the movies talk about her guilt, but i don’t think it was mentioned in depth. and because of my headcanon i genuinely believe she feels really guilty for pushing peter to go to ego (and she DID push him, she’s the reason he went), and the fic focuses on her guilt. it’s a fresh take (i haven’t read anything similar on ao3), and it’s a very important perspective (#tome). plus the fic was inspired by a line from castle, and we all know how much i love the show. this fic is a tiny connection between my two favorite fictional worlds <3
— this one means forever: it’s unpublished yet (i’m still writing it) but… i’m so proud. it’s a very special, very emotional (well, hopefully) one shot. if i manage to make the ending as emotional as it is in my head, i will be beyond happy. also the fic is my connection to lucifer, and it’s another tv show that holds a special place in my heart. i can’t wait for everyone to read this story, though im scared to post the link on twitter so i might not even tell anyone, i don’t know.

— road trip fic i’m working on now: just something is so wrong. i’m still wiring and haven’t started editing, but the first draft is terrible. i think i would have to ask friends to read the first few chapters before i post to make sure it’s even readable

it’s not really a review but zoe’s tweet “kate could write a starmora grocery store fic and ill be invested”. it’s one of my lock screens and i always look at it when im feeling down
a time when writing was really, really hard: i post only when the story is fully written, so if it’s hard then i will just stop writing until i feel better. but posting make my wish come true was so freaking hard, and it was one of the reasons why i left twitter. christmas + anything gotg related messed up with my head a lot, and having a christmas starmora fic was even worse. i took a break from anything gotg and genuinely contemplated deleting make my wish come true. december wasn’t fun </3
a scene or character you wrote that surprised you: starmora smut. i haven’t posted the fic yet but i was really surprised when i finished the fic

how did you grow as a writer this year: well i’m pretty sure i make way less grammatical and punctuation mistakes than i did when i started lol. ty to people who don’t mind those and are understanding of my english as a second language situation <3
how do you hope to grow next year: it’s silly but i want to write a 100k words story. i hope to accomplish this goal
who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer: two things, honestly: support on twt and actual books. i got back into reading and definitely stole some tropes, some situations, and some lines. but also gotg hive. i’m beyond grateful to claire for her support with make my wish come true, as i truly believe she’s the biggest supporter of the fic and she always made me smile with her comments and excitement. also zoe because i still have screenshots from that one evening we talked about the fic, and her support meant so much (again, posting the fic was really hard). and shan, bff ur “seated” tweets made me smile so much.
anything from your real life show up in your writing: i wrote an entire fic about my favorite croissant place so…
any projects you’re looking forward to starting in the new year: i REALLY want to write the spy au (set in space). i hope i can do it! but for now my main focus is finishing the road trip story, this one means forever, and writing couple outtakes for make my wish come true and i want crazy

Jurassic World Dominion
So I've actually been a big fan of the Jurassic Park franchise basically my whole life, and I just want to say: I have no idea why people are hating Jurassic World Dominion as much as they are.
Honestly, I'd probably rank it like fourth out of the six films, but I'd still say "pretty dang good."
A large number of semi-random and SPOILERY thoughts follow:
I love that we went back to the primary Big Bad of the novels (and the Behind-the-Scenes Bad of the first film) and finally spent time on them in the movies! I’m always happy to spend time digging into the source material of the novels — and believe me, there’s still some stuff in the two books that I’d like to see brought to film someday...
I’m glad that they didn’t split up Owen and Claire between films again. The habit of sequels always splitting up/bringing back together the various couples is dumb.
I am legitimately surprised that Claire and Owen just drove off with Maisie at the end of the previous film and simply never told anyone where she was or spoke to any authorities about her. They legit just kidnapped her ass. Granted, she consented to that, but it’s still fucked up? She probably is heir to the Lockwood fortune, and frankly, shouldn’t Iris (her nanny/housekeeper from the previous film) more entitled to guardianship... ?
I wish they found a way to keep Franklin and Zia in the movie for a lot longer. Those two were some of the best parts of Fallen Kingdom.
Kudos for talking about Claire’s lingering guilt for the first film and the end events of the second. However, I kind of wish Maisie had gotten some time to ponder/process her own guilt for what happened. Although she certainly has her own internal identity struggles to work though.
Since Grant and Malcolm already got to return for previous sequels in major ways, it’s cool to have Ellie lead the charge for the original trio this time around. I respect and admire that decision.
As happy as I am to see the original trio return, I can’t help but wish we got Julianne Moore/Sarah Harding tossed in, too. That would’ve been so great. The Lost World film needs more respect, and she was a great complement to Ian’s character. But really, it’s a packed house in here already. It might’ve been hard to drag in even MORE characters.
Surprised that we never saw Lowery from the first JW return. They foreshadow his presence on the BioSyn compound by showing his face in the papers of former Jurassic World employees who have moved to working for BioSyn, but he never surfaces. Instead of giving us some new characters running the communications in the mountain-framed reserve, it would’ve been absolutely aces to use Lowery and/or Vivian again!
That Malta sequence is absolute goddamn dynamite. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time thanks to the brilliant editing and pulse-pounding score. VERY happy to have Omar Sy back in the cast for a while, too! He was the one I was most worried about throughout this scene. Even though I knew Claire and Owen would escape safely, I was still completely on edge about how in the hell they’d do it. 10/10 sequence.
Santos was such a nasty piece of work that it’s downright weird for her to not linger in the movie longer, IMO. She is so pointlessly cruel at times.
DUUUUUDE, they figured out a way to explain/bring in finally getting feathered dinosaurs without getting rid of what we already have. SO fuckin’ nice. Mad respect for this.
I did NOT expect them to suddenly give Dr. Wu a sympathetic arc, but I’m surprisingly ok with it. It makes sense for him to finally grow from his prior experiences. And yet... I think he should still have to somehow answer for a lot of what he’s done. Particularly the Indoraptor. Like, there’s no good goddamn reason to ever create an Indoraptor unless your goal is to make a militarized killing machine, dude.
It’s worth noting that Maisie is told very clearly that she is necessary in order to prevent the world from entering a major famine that will result in the deaths of hundreds of thousands. And after initially seeming very receptive to the importance of this, she promptly says “Fuck those people” and makes a break for it. I get that she wants her freedom and that teenagers are rebellious, but that is fucking harsh.
Therizinosaurus and Pyroraptor sequences were very cool. They looked awesome and did very cool stuff. They even managed to justify the Therizinosaurus being aggressive and scary in spite of it still being a clear herbivore through clever unspoken storytelling.
Giganotosaurus, on the other hand? Kinda underwhelming, IMO. And hey- are we supposed to believe he has the same “movement based on motion” as the T-Rex does in the movies, or what?? Because they seem to imply it but never clarify if (or why) that would be true.
Dilophosaurus is back after being absent since 1993. Yay! But they’re ALL juvenile-sized, without a single one being adult-sized. Boo!
Sam Neill/Alan Grant seems like he’s the least engaged of the five returning leads. He’s mostly here for his check, and I can’t fault him for that. I just wish he had a little more to do that would show off his expertise and experience with these creatures. I’m glad he’s present even if he’s got little to do besides phone it in — it definitely wouldn’t be the same without him.
Ian gets some of the best dialogue, of course. His pessimism about the world speaks to me deeply.
This movie falls into the half of the franchise that is sadly afraid to kill off any sympathetic characters. I honestly prefer it when they’re willing to let likable characters die, because it really raises the stakes. But at the same time, I didn’t particularly want to see any of these new characters go down? Idk. Maybe I would’ve been okay with losing Ramsay? Or, hey - why not have Dr. Wu get his little redemption arc but still die by the end? Idk.
By the final act of the film, it becomes pretty obvious why the characters were kept separated from one another for most of the running time. It’s just a real problem to juggle that many characters all trying to avoid dinosaurs in a GROUP, y’know? It’s hard to track them all in a single shot, and it’s hard to keep the stakes feeling high if no one’s actually dying along the way. I saw one of the guys from Easy Allies compare it to watching a large, tightly packed group trying to maneuver through a haunted house; there’s definitely truth in that.
The ending fails to address a few major outstanding issues, IMO. I really wish they had given us some lip service to talk about the finer details of how the significant number of dinosaurs in the former BioSyn preserve is going to help make coexistence with the remainder easier to handle... or how, exactly, Claire and Owen are allowed to retain custody of Maisie. After they kidnapped a girl, the world went on a four-year manhunt for her, and then authorities finally rescued everybody and obviously were like “Oh shit it’s Maisie Lockwood” and then ........ ???
........it feels weird and kind of off-putting to actually see Grant and Ellie kiss? I never realized until this moment that they share extremely little on-screen affection in the first JP. But hey, at least they finally got back together... even if it’s much too late for them to ever follow up on Grant’s newfound affection for/tolerance for children in the first film. Alas.
