also yall we need to step back from the harryvision and understand that kim, at his core, is a loser (affectionate) like everyone else. so much out there wants to portray him as limitless patience, great cook, super organized, good handwriting, nice tasteful living quarters etc and that's fun to contrast him to harry but well i am here to RUIN that we need to take off the du bois glasses and appreciate kim for the weirdguy that he is. he has horrific fits of road rage and harry genuinely fears for his life riding along with him and witnessing the generational curses this man is capable of unleashing upon the stupid little fucks that cut him off on the 8/81. he has never had the time or space or budget to learn to cook so he lives off deli sandwiches and butter noodles and the occasional grab-and-go fruit. he writes so much so frequently with such awful handwriting that he has invented a new form of shorthand and the moralintern is contacting him to create a cipher system for them. he has no resources to furnish and maintain a nice flat so it's like a slightly gentrified r/malelivingspace but with a table for his sewing machine and there's scrap fabric and thread and half-pinned half-hemmed pants strewn about the place. there are absolutely a bunch of shitty mockups of his old wirral character in the backs of his notebooks and he hasn't played it in years but if he ever picks it back up then his minmax high int high dex definitely-not-a-self-insert sidhe artificer is READY. everyone add your weirdguy kim thoughts NOW 👇

Everyone was slowly gathering at the Wheeler's basement. Mike suggested they have their D&D sessions there during the summer. Even though Steve's house was practically empty, Mike insisted they do it at his place because 'he has too many things he needs for playing and can't carry them all to Steve's house', and Steve didn't have the energy to argue with him and kinda liked being at the warm Wheeler's house more than at his own, so the Wheeler's basement it was.
Steve and Robin went downstairs after saying a polite hello to Mrs Wheeler and getting a warm, freshly baked cookie made by Holly, and found Eddie, Mike and Dustin already setting up boards, notes and mini figures on the table. They entered the basement, greeted by the boys and placed themselves on the couch, immediately sinking into their usual cuddly position and joining the light conversation the boys were having.
Jonathan, Will and El arrived shortly after, accompanied by Nancy and a tray of cold lemonade and cookies. Will joined the table and Nancy and Jonathan sat next to the two-headed person that Steve and Robin were. Lucas, Erica and Max burst into the basement door after a few minutes with Lucas apologizing for being late and Erica blaming it all on him, while Max rolled her eyes and sat on the floor, her back leaning on Steve's legs, El came to sit right next to her.
The Party started the game and Max and El moved to Nancy and Jonathan's side of the couch as they started talking, and Steve and Robin were left in their own world. Robin was dozing off on Steve's chest, and he scanned the room with his eyes, smiling to himself as he saw the kids mesmerized by Eddie's storytelling. He then noticed a Rubik's cube on the desk next to him, and reached out, stretching a bit to get it. It was scrambled and he moved Robin a little bit so he can hold it better. He moved it around, inspecting it and then started solving it, Robin woke up from her nap to the soft clicking sounds and looked up, smiling. The cube was solved after less than a minute, and Steve handed it to Robin to scramble. She sat up, stretched and took it, scrambling it in concentration, trying to make it as difficult to solve as she can, and gave it back to Steve, who solved it again, even faster this time. She giggled and scrambled it again, and Steve solved it again. They kept going like that, sometimes Steve scrambling it for Robin and then guiding her through solving it herself. They didn't notice the curious looks of their friends, who stopped talking and playing and laughing and just stared at them.
"Steve, is that a Rubik's cube?" Max finally asked and Steve looked up from the cube, and down at her.
"Yeah," he smiled, "found it here."
"And you know how to solve it?" Nancy asked, surprised.
"Um, yes? I just did like, fifteen times," his smile turned into a more bitter one, not liking the surprise in her voice.
"But how? I mean, I never taught you." Dustin said, and Steve huffed. This fucking kid.
"No, you didn't." He was clenching his jaw now. Is it that hard to believe he can solve a fucking Rubik's cube?
"So who taught you?" Lucas asked now, raising an eyebrow, "Probably Robin, right?"
Robin rolled her eyes, "you guys are the worst. I didn't teach him, he taught me. You want to tell me no one noticed the cube on the front desk at Family Video? it's Steve's, he brought it on our second or third shift, he plays with it constantly, helps him concentrate or something. He showed me how to solve it, and he kind of still has to because I never remember." She finished and crossed her arms, pouting.
Steve sat there, silent, cube unsolved in his hands. He looked at it and slowly moved its parts, solving it step by step, feeling everyone's eyes on him. When he was down he sat back, placed it on the desk and crossed his hands too, still not talking.
"So you learned it all by yourself?" El smiled at him from her place on the floor and he smiled right back at her, something inside him melting.
"Yes, I did," he said quietly and her eyes were still asking, so he continued, "My grandma got me one for Christmas when I was twelve. It sat in my room for a couple of years, didn't really care about it, but one day, I think I was fourteen or fifteen, I picked it up and started playing with it while studying. In the beginning it was just to have something to do with my hands, but at some point I thought it could be nice if I could actually solve it, so I tried. It took some time, and a few different books from the library, but eventually I was able to solve it really fast. I never really stopped since then." He ended with a smile on his face, and scanned the room again, El's smile was wide, and so was Robin's. The boys looked at him in disbelief, not sure how they never noticed that about him before and Eddie, Eddie was in awe. The look on his face was a mixture of adoration and surprise, but a good kind of surprise. He looked at Steve with big brown eyes and a teasing smile tingling his lips, and then stood up, marched towards the table and grabbed the cube.
"Teach me." He declared, handing the cube to Steve. Steve looked up at him, taking the cube from his hands.
"It's already solved," Steve smiled and Eddie rolled his eyes and flicked him on the shoulder. He took the cube and scrambled it aggressively, and then gave it back to Steve, and sat on the floor.
"Please?" he looked at Steve up with doe eyes and butterflies flew through Steve's entire body.
"Okay." He said quietly, and showed Eddie how the parts move, how the colours work and the simplest steps to solving it as a beginner. The kids protested loudly that Eddie left them in the middle of the most important part of the campaign, but Eddie didn't even hear them. He was hypnotized by Steve's soft voice, by the way his eyes moved back and forth from his face to the cube, by his hair falling on his forehead as he looked down, and by him mindlessly fixing it every few seconds. He was frozen when Steve's fingers touched his hands, walking him through the steps again, and almost dropped the cube when Steve let go of it, and let him try the first step on his own. They were lost in their bubble and forgot where they even were, and when Eddie successfully solved it for the first time, Steve clapped and laughed and Eddie hugged him. Steve hugged him back, releasing a sigh, knowing that no matter what others say or think, Eddie will always value him. Eddie will always make him feel worthy and strong and smart, and will always appreciate him for his good parts, even the ones he doesn't appreciate in himself.

Rating All Radiant's Gear By How Cute The Little Dragons Are:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Paladin: 9/10 The sword little guy is one of the stylised dragons who has been squished flat, and drags down the set for being a lil boring in execution, but the shield is ADORABLE, look at that baby all curled around it!! The pose, the style, the ELEGANCE. One of the largest dragons of the whole set.
Long post under the cut :)
Tumblr media
Warrior: 10/10 FOUR dragons, all with a cool pose, in one weapon? Lookit them! They're little spiky babies judging you from their perch and I love them.
Tumblr media
Dark Knight: 8/10 Cool pose but their faces are sort of weird. The babies have 2 eyes on each side I think? But the face doesn't have enough definition to make them look like faces, and then you could mistake the 2 eyes for being front-facing and then they're goofy. More effort put into being edgy than maximising Dragon Cuteness, but they are still pretty neat, so I can't be that mean to them.
Tumblr media
Gunbreaker: 0/10 NO DRAGONS??? Just the aesthetic? What are we DOING here? I think this secretly says something about the state of the trade deal between the Bozjans and Rats-at-Hand so I volunteer as a diplomat to improve things so they honour the traditional Gunblade with a more befitting dragon next time. I will rebuild Bozja myself brick by brick if I have to get trade flowing.
Tumblr media
Dragoon: 11/10 The little guys from the axe are back and they have a EXTRA WINGS to make the spear more aerodynamic, which is very important for aerial combat. Bonus points for making a leetle heart :)
Tumblr media
Reaper: 100/10 this is just Vrtra. Look at that snoot. Someone had SEEN him when they made this. Is this a post-EW design that their craftsmen added to the range after seeing that the Warrior of Light was a reaper and wanted to sell them specifically the perfect weapon? Or is this a secret design a past satrap had sketched and had made to secretly carry Vrtra with them which ended up in the stable of weapon types the Radiant Host use, in which case I want to know everything about the Reaper Satrap.
Tumblr media
Monk: 9/10 Look at this guy... Another goofy face, but a great pose. Deducting points more because you don't punch someone directly with a dragon and instead they're hiding behind the blades looking cute. I want to punch someone with a dragon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Samurai: 12/10 Two extra points for the weird dragon face with six eyes on the blade itself. I don't think the person designing most of these had ever seen a dragon but I love the imagination going into it. The lil guy on the sheath is fucking majestic. Flying at your side and adorable to boot.
Tumblr media
Ninja: 0/10 again... Yeah yeah dragons have scales and claws. Disappointing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bard: 7/10 disappointingly flat little guy. Considering how MANY bows there are shaped like creechurs, the fact that this isn't another Vrtra-shaped full-body monstrosity of a thing is especially painful. Definitely an old staple of their armoury from times long ago when they weren't even sure the great dragon was real. Scraped a point for the arrow fletching being little wings.
Tumblr media
Machinist: 8/10 another lil guy with a funny face. Loses their body definition to wrap around the butt of the gun, and playing a protective role over your hands once again like with Monk, rather than getting out there and doing the shooting, which would have been funny, but perhaps crass for a beloved protector.
Tumblr media
Dancer: 9/10 SO LONG. Just curled up and having a good time vibing. Sadly hard to see unless it's being actively thrown at someone, since that distortion in its length is so you can hold it there. Deducting a point just because the art of combat dancing does come from Thavnair so they COULD have gone a bit more all out on this particular weapon.
Tumblr media
Black Mage: 7/10 ARE YOU OKAY THERE? The squished ones make me sad. Could have been much more 3D and leaping out at you. The wings are amazing though. The overall vibe looks more like one of those flying voidsent thingies with the big flappy wings (you know the ones) so it is suitable BLM wear but not overall the best dragon nor particularly cute or cuddly.
Tumblr media
Summoner/Scholar (same dragons but one's lighter): 5/10 This is the same dragon as the Black Mage staff but even more compressed and the wings are tiny and weak. There could have been SO MUCH MORE dragon on these books. :(
Tumblr media
Red Mage: 6/10 Great pose but the other wing designs are doing most of the heavy work to make it dragonny. I think it's sweet that it's snuggling down close to your hand but it's definitely a secret little dragon and not a flex that it's your new bestie in channelling terrifying amounts of mana. Bonus point for the slight bat-like aesthetic in its pose and the metal wings, and I always approve of when anything Red Mage also has vampiric hints in the aesthetic, and the lil baby dragon is playing along.
Tumblr media
White Mage: 10/10 "Oh this one just has the wings?" WRONG LOOK AT THIS LITTLE WHITE MAGE BABY WHITE DRAGON SNOOZING IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR STAFF, AWAY FROM THE DYABLE SECTIONS. The white sheep of the family is here to help and they're doing so well. Deducted bonus points because its eyes don't glow, so you can't dye it blue and have a blue eyes white dragon :(
Tumblr media
Astrologian: 8/10 Double dragon! I stared for so long trying to work out if the dongle on top is also a dragon face but I think it just glows. The dragons are pretty subtle here but I think it may be kinder than putting them on any part where they'd be rotated wildly because then they might get dizzy and we can't have that. Anyway the existing dragons are cute but also just far enough down that stylised line that they look really goofy again so I think I am once again appreciating them in a silly way not a "awww baby" way.
Tumblr media
Sage: 1000/10 FUCKING BABY DRAGONS. FOUR OF THEM.
AND THEY FLY.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Start your own family, dye them bright pink as the colour of your new brood... You're one of Middy's kids now, you are totally legally allowed to do that by Dragon Rules, trust me.
I am obsessed.

the invisible man? more like the visible man.
laugh track
analysis under the cut cause its long-ish (also spoilers for the book)
i think the ending of the invisible man is insane. i haven't read the book in a bit so i may get things wrong, but to my understanding, griffin is killed by a mob that kemp summons.
griffin is a terrible person- i think that goes unsaid. he has a god complex, he's a sociopath, he's a murderer, etc. he probably deserved to die (although i did like him so it made me a little sad).
what i find interesting is that the mob was scared. this man is running rampant and you can't see him, you don't know if you'll be next in his hurricane of chaos. so you round up a bunch of people, you try to end him- and you do.
fear, however, is a dangerous thing. it causes you to revert back to instinct. so this mob is many people against one, and they viciously beat griffin to death. they don't really notice the damage that they're doing- both because of his invisibility and also the adrenaline- until it is too late.
in a sense, they stoop to his level. they're scared of a murderer so they, themselves, become the murderers.
it's almost like the message is that there aren't really good people- there aren't bad ones either. there are good actions, there are bad actions, and people are made up of all those. sure, some make better choices than others but in the end, people will fight tooth and nail for their survival, because that is our instinct.
i also could be looking too much into it but i really enjoyed that book.
