I had my hands on some watercolors a while ago and just had to do some of the two characters I immediately thought of,,, I do like how they came out!!!

Unfortunately for miku I forgot she needed to dry and I realized that far too late when she had already stuck to the page in front of her. Even then, the page scar looks kind of cool.

Hey! Could you possibly do a tl;dr of the haans family post? I have a hard time reading long blocks of text due to some disorders I have.

hey! yeah, i was actually thinking about this when i realized the post was getting longer and longer...i’ll try to do justice to a tl;dr here, though the og post will inevitably contain more of the nuance:

TD;DR Jonny’s characterization of the Haans feeds directly into MANY stereotypes surrounding Chinese people/immigrants. John Haan is almost a caricature in this way: he is poor, and runs a questionable takeout restaurant. On top of that, since he is written as an avatar of the Flesh, John is portrayed as a violent man with cannibalistic tendencies, which enforces the harmful misconception that Chinese people eat ethically questionable things like dog/cat/bat meat. 

Tom Haan, on the other hand, is described by statement givers on multiple counts with discriminatory language, mostly relating to his accent. Despite never hearing him speak otherwise, the statement givers express surprise, shock, or even fear when Tom Haan speaks to them with a “perfect” english accent, implicitly suggesting that it is eerie, unnatural, and abnormal when a Chinese person does not have a foreign-sounding accent. 

This becomes even more disheartening when you realize the Haans are some of the only characters in tma which have been written with an explicitly noted ethnicity, and that this ethnicity is implicated in the specific brand of horror these characters represent.
