I’d like to take a moment, if I may, to correct a little misconception I’ve seen pop up in a few places.

Hangman doesn’t disobey orders to go protect Mav and Rooster at the end of the movie. The audience doesn’t see the order because it’s better for the scene’s tension if the audience doesn’t know he’s in the air, but he can’t disobey orders and launch on his own. As in, he physically cannot. Carriers have catapult systems to launch fighters into the air, and the pilot does not have control over the catapult.

So if you knew this, but prefer to think of Hangman as disobeying orders cuz you think it makes a better story, you do you, you funky little human!

But for anyone who wasn’t aware and might have been misreading the scene, I think you deserve to know that the Navy asked the question How do you fly a plane from a ship without making the ship suuuuuuupuer long so it can have a runway? and came up with the answer Catapult!

I think it really says a lot about humanity

#Top Gun: Maverick #Jake Hangman Seresin #I don't think they included this info in the movie #because it would be boring exposition #and not terribly relevant for most of the movie #but also because #everyone making the movie would know this fact so well #they probably forgot some people don't #The catapults get one mention in the original #to explain why they can't get more fighters in the air #to help with the final fight #but I don't think it's mentioned at all in TGM

Every social platform on the internet is trying to banish sex workers to the shadow realm but I can't post a tweet without at least two bots replying P U S S Y I N B I O. People are self-censoring sex to seggs and $3× but every other ad you see is still filled with half-naked women. Rightwingers want queer people arrested for so much as existing in the same postal code as a child and are also drumming up a moral panic about how teenage boys aren't getting laid enough.
