my biggest pet peeve about some interpretations of KakaGai's friendship is that sometimes it's depicted as only Gai being devoted and supportive (and never criticizing) of Kakashi while Kakashi is indifferent/cold towards him when really i think im pretty sure that Kakashi and Gai are the founder and president of each other's fan clubs since childhood-
(barring that their fathers didn't know about it/ didn't think you could do that or else they would've been first XD)

Hatake Kakashi and Maito Gai are best friends. Both of them are invested in their friendship equally.
Did that have a rough start? Yes. They were kids with extremely different personalities who found their friendship over time. Kakashi started arrogent and full of himself but came to realize Gai was in every way his equal as a Shinobi and an incredibly important person in his life.
We obviously have a whole lot of Gai protecting and supporting Kakashi that no one questions exists, but a reminder of the things Kakashi has done for/with Gai.
Beat up grown ass men who were bullying and hurting Gai
Did Kakashi scold Gai for not lifting a finger to defend his father? Yes. But Hatake Kakashi, age five, saw two grown men attacking Gai and interviened without hesitation. His father could have stepped in, since he was right there (Kakashi runs back to him after), but it was Kakashi who went to Gai’s aid.
Stated he would always be Gai’s friend/rival and need Gai by his side

Episode 49 - Fierce Fight! Pokemon Hinamatsuri
Holiday special! March 3rd is a Shinto holiday known as Hinamatsuri the Dolls' Festival/Girls' Festival. So it's not unexpected to make a Hinamatsuri-themed episode, featuring Misty and Jessie living it up on Hinamatsuri, released on March 3rd July 9th.
Yeah. Uh. Few months late for Hinamatsuri. This episode was meant to come out on the day, but. See. The Porygon episode happened and a bunch of episodes following it wound up getting scrambled out of order in the aftermath.
Fortunately, a lot of this span between Fuchsia and Cinnabar can be viewed in any order, since it's mostly a set of oneshot adventures to flesh out various Pokemon who haven't had their time in the sun yet. But this one's kind of important. It's where Jessie gets her Lickitung.
Those of us in the U.S. had to deal with Ash's Tauros herd suddenly existing out of nowhere thanks to the banning of the Dratini episode, while audiences in Japan had a similar reaction to Jessie possessing a Lickitung she never caught all of a sudden.
So, we start off with Lickitung. Jessie takes advantage of the holiday's sales to buy all sorts of gifts for Giovanni, hoping to butter him up. However, a wild Lickitung shows up out of absolutely nowhere and eats them all. This outrages Jessie so much that she somehow manages to capture Lickitung with a catch rate of 45 at full HP. That's a 5.9% chance, but it's Hinamatsuri so we'll let her have this.
From there, Misty and Jessie decide to stick it to each other via a competition. They both enter a 4v4 women-only tournament to win a set of unique Pokemon-themed ceremonial hina dolls.
To round out their teams, they borrow Pokemon from the boys in their entourage. Misty brings Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Vulpix, and Staryu. Jessie brings Arbok and Weezing, plus her newly acquired Lickitung and. Uh. Meowth.
He is not pleased with the indignity of being used as an actual Pokemon. He's even less pleased when she sets him up to fail in a Type Disadvantaged fight against fucking Primeape. Meowth dies immediately.
Misty makes her way through the tournament making fantastic use of the Type Chart. Bulbasaur vs. Graveler! Pikachu vs. Fearow! Vulpix vs. Tangela! While Jessie muscles through by just slugging it out using Arbok and Weezing's poison moves.
The final, of course, comes down to Misty vs. Jessie. And that's old news. Obviously Team Rocket gets their teeth kicked in by Pikachu. But Jessie has a new Pokemon!
Lickitung's stats aren't great, but they have a paralyzing Lick. Is that enough to carry them to victory? No, it is not. G1 Lickitung is trash. The show really has to fudge things by letting Lickitung always get the first move, despite a base Speed of 30 - Not quite the slowest Pokemon in the game, but down there.
But Jessie's luck runs out when Lick stops paralyzing at Staryu fucking Psyduck. XD (It is only a 30% chance, after all.) After some brief moron v. moron shenanigans, Psyduck wins the tournament with Confusion.
Misty gets the hina dolls! Good for her.

also this is so cute, I’m terrified of bugs, especially bees and wasps, but whenever I see someone being kind to a bug or making friends with a bug I just think it’s nice even if I wouldn’t do it myself!!
(if it makes any difference, I did write this as platonic, but they’d probably all react pretty similarly whether it was their friend, S/O, family member etc., like minor differences but very similar regardless of what the relationship is, if that makes sense XD)

Hmph… well, whatever makes them happy, he supposes. More than anything he just doesn’t quite see the point in it. Insects and little creepy-crawlies and the like are just… they don’t have very long lives anyway. Why save something that might only live another week or two at most? Of course, when he starts to think about it, he realizes that’s how demons view humans. How Sebastian views him. And he would certainly be very grateful if a demon deigned to stop and save him from drowning or being stepped on. So, when he thinks of it in terms like that, he can sort of understand why (Name) does those things. Don’t expect him to start doing it along with them, though.
SEBASTIAN
Why, how curious that they do such a thing. Similarly to Ciel, he doesn’t truly understand the thought process behind it, as it would be like him stopping his business to save some human who’d fallen off a building or something. Unlike his master, however, it intrigues him and makes him more interested in his friend. Not in a romantic way, but he becomes much more curious about how their mind words. He’ll probably ask questions about why they saved a certain creature, and will be infinitely more fascinated if they don’t have a concrete answer for him. It just strikes him as something not every human does, so that gets his attention by default. If they challenge him to try it, he might actually give it a shot to see if he might get out of it what they do.
SOMA
Aaaah, they are such a hero to these tiny beasties!! Being someone who cares about pretty much everything, who has a reputation for being concerned with those who are less fortunate, of course Soma will think this is such a great thing. He always gets a big smile on his face whenever he sees (Name) coming to the rescue of an insect or a snail or anything like that. Often he actually cheers for them that he knows they can save this one, and if there’s more than one, he definitely joins in. He believes that every living creature has some kind of soul, some kind of emotions, so it would be cruel to not help where one can. Overall he’s very supportive and will happily give them a hand in doing something nice like this.

General Thoughts
This is a pretty fun episode! :)
I liked seeing Hook Hand again and this episode was a nice way to give Hook Foot another chance to shine before giving him him a good send off. :)
