Hello there! Please, call me Nimue. I’m 22 years old and German (English is my second anguage). I am on the aromantic spectrum. I am genderfluid and thus what I identify as will shift on a whim. Please ask me for pronouns and what gendered terms I'm fine with at the moment! Or use They/Them and do not gender if you want to play it safe all the time. Selfship Stuff
Overhaul? Yes. But I try to be a bit more careful with f/os nowadays so a lot are pending. I mainly focus on Ensemble Stars and Hypnosis Mic tho, so expect me to gush about them the most. I mostly post about Fling Posse at the moment. I love all of my f/os though!
"Shipped with s/i" means that I ship them with my s/i but I do not consider them f/os! I just enjoy the ship dynamics. Thus these ships are not personal to me by any means and I would not rank them as my partners due to a lack of feelings for them.
There are also a few f/os who are a bit complicated due to past circumstances (I rather not talk about it). Once I recovered and sorted my feelings I add them to the other rows especially Romani Archaman, I love him so much and want to decleare him my boyfriend again you have no idea... However long that will be. I love them though and plan to add and gush about them eventually once I moved on from the situation! I just don't know when that will be...
Iffy sharing Fling Posse (Ramuda, Gentaro, Dice), Henry (FE) and Blaze romantically (except with my friends). I will not block you but I might block your tag (if possible) or not follow back and/or interact with your posts (related to that f/o) if possible. Hey everyone!!
Thank you for over 150 followers on Tumblr! Although I really should've have made this kind of post at 100, haha.
I'm very surprised by the attention that has managed to gather ever since starting this blog. 150 followers may not seem like a whole lot, but that's 150 people who I have achieved my goal with: informing others providing accessible means of official Hetalia news and more!
Thank you so much once again! I'll do my best to keep posting consistently and updating. It's been such a huge pleasure to help serve the community thus far!
For 150 followers, I'll be celebrating by posting future plans that will soon be implemented onto the blog! If you are interested, please feel free to expand by the post below.
Proper Tagging and Formatting: This is the one that has bothered me the most by far. For several of my posts thus far, there has been inconsistencies on the tagging and formatting of my posts. I'll be going back and doing a large clean up to set a standard on format depending on the type of post (merchandise, manga, Hetamyu). Alongside with fixing tags and putting up new ones so that archiving and filtering this blog will be easier and dependable for any future use.
Second blog: I would also like to make a second account in the future for both Tumblr and Youtube made for archiving any official Hetalia content. The main blog (this one) serves as a news/information/educational source (alongside with my own general fanart), it will not suffice for major archiving. The hope is that the archival blog will be up-to-date with all official Hetalia content still remaining and providing that accessibility of the content to the fandom. This one will be a tedious project, as trying to archive over 15+ years of Hetalia content is absolutely a lot harder than simply reporting the news. So bear with me here as this will be its own project that will take its time.
Future projects: Still haven't forgotten about the flower project and more! Those are its own tedious tasks with a lot of research required and executing. Right now, I'm also working on a project documenting all Hetalia birthdays for all the major characters from the series and hopefully that will be shared soon! Special thanks to @arumidden on helping me with both of these projects so far and doing so, so much work for it. They've done a lot more work than I can put into words and I'm genuinely so grateful
Blog overhaul: There is a severe lack of design and customization within the blog and all the accounts. After the flowers and birthday projects are out of the way, I'll be make custom art and fixing up custom designs for the blog! Alongside with setting up pages with its own dedicated category, FAQ, and more! Stay tuned!
That's a lot and quite a bit ambitious, but it was really exciting to share my plans for the future! Please patient as the projects and blog continues to be developed and hopefully you can around the news that will keep being posted as well!
Hopefully all of that made sense as I am very sleepy right now. It means a lot and it's been such a joy to host this blog. Thank you so much again for all your support.

I had a good week improving notes and UI quality of life. It is Hydrus's 11th birthday today!

File notes got several updates this week, mostly for copying notes from one file to another. First off, the 'duplicate metadata merge options' finally support notes! All users will get some basic 'yes please, merge my notes' defaults set, copying from worst to best and copying both ways when the files are the same quality. If you do a lot of duplicate filtering and have been waiting for this, double check your options (under the duplicates processing page) to make sure you are happy. Relatedly, the notes dialog now has copy/paste buttons for copying from one file to another. To get this all to work, these actions use some Note Import Options tech to handle conflicts, generally by extending existing sub-notes where possible and renaming on conflicts. If you want to work with notes in the Client API, this 'easy merge' tech is also optionally available in the Client API. Let me know how this works for you--I think I am going to have to adjust the logic to handle two-way related note merges a little better, so feedback on IRL situations would be great.
I significantly improved how the taglist handles shift-selections and drag-selections. A bunch of position and logic jank is cleaned up, and now you can 'undo' a multi-selection, just like I did for thumbnails recently. Best way to test this is just click and drag down the list, and then move your mouse up--it undoes the selection as you move up, and it remembers what was originally selected before! Also, holding ctrl down to start a deselection drag is cleaner and more human. Give it a go, and you'll feel the difference.

Just one more week of work and then I am on my vacation. I'll do some more cleanup/small jobs and try to catch up on github bug reports, which I have been neglecting.

The first non-experimental beta of hydrus was released on December 14th, 2011. We are now going on eleven years.
I had a challenging 2022. Several IRL problems appeared from nowhere, but I decided to keep on trudging, and we got some work done regardless. I'm satisfied with the result. We started the year with the run up to multiple local file services, a long-planned expansion to the sheer shape of the database, and with that, beyond the new file services, came an array of new database search tech, from the ability to search deleted files and search unions of different file domains to enhanced cancel tech for snappier UI and more accurate tag counts and the nice user-made file history chart. We also saw new time search tech, with nicer UI, the ability to search the last view time of a file, the recording of archive times, and the broad 'modified time' parsing expanson, which combines post times from many sources to give you a more precise 'source time' of the things you download. Thanks to user help, we also figured out the new help, which looks great, is easily searchable, and is simple to edit. We hammered out more stable versions of mpv and other spicy libraries for the different builds and user environments. The UI had numerous quality of life improvements, from dejanked layouts and sizing calculations to fixed custom widgets and overhauled hover windows to cleaner selection logic and quick-action buttons for easy pastes and mass-application actions. File notes are finally parsable and now display on the media viewer. Sidecar importing and exporting became more powerful. EXIF and other human-readable file metadata is now parsed and viewable. The serverside janitor workflow finally received some improvement. The Client API grew to support autocomplete tag searching, note editing, cleverer file reference and file delete, nicer thumbnail fetching, better error/disconnect handling, tag display type support, more hash fetchings and lookups, and the new timestamps and file metadata statuses like EXIF. And the program became significantly easier for any user to run from source.
There is still no end of work to do, and I am thankfully able to continue, so I plan to keep going into 2023. I deeply appreciate the feedback, help, and support over the years. Thank you!

piltover’s finest a03 rss feed update (psa)
As you can see (after this CaitVi week avalanche? :) after a brief hiatus for reorganization - the RSS feed blog is back. We went through a minor overhaul, we have new people pitching in to lend a hand - but it's the same old place, with same old goals - and some old, and some new rules:
TAGS TO TRACK:
As of now there will only be the two RSS feed ones (ao3feed-piltovers-finest and a03feed-piltovers-finest) and that single main one - caitvi to prevent spamming/clogging, as promised in the initial post. But if you're still one of those tag-policing folks, block and ignore is a two-click endeavour, so feel free.
BACKLOG:
Our break was a tad unexpected, and it took some time to reorganize (and for some of us to get training in basic coding ;) but the steady stream of fics never ceased from A03. So the backlog became overbearing - and those fics unfortunately will NOT be posted. BUT...
MISSING FIC RE-POSTS:
After conferring with some authors who got in touch, an option to RE-post those is now possible. This blog is here for the convenience of us all: an audience craving more stories, as well as all those lovely talented people out there writing those stories and sharing them with us - and deserving all the encouragement and endorsement we can offer them in return. So if you are one of them as well - and your fic was one of those that fizzled in that backlog, please let us now. Just DM us and we will re-code and re-post.
CONTENT QUALITY:
Even between all of us now, it is still physically impossible to read everything, so we can not offer any guarantees about the content quality. But it goes without saying that, based on what's presented from descriptions and the tags - it's your choice to peruse, or respectfully move on. It is the responsibility of both author and the reader - the first one of creating the content (and of course marking/tagging it appropriately) and the latter one making their own choice about consuming and engaging.
FIC TAGS:
To prevent any further unpleasant situations this time around ALL posted fics MUST have pertinent, unambiguous tags - main, as well as all the additional ones. The content itself is naturally writer’s prerogative, but the issue of the reader’s choice to engage or not is also non-negotiable (so no, vague little acronyms not familiar to those who do not browse Craigslist personals are not enough) and then everything is simple: if forewarned about the content, one can still choose to give it a shot (and be hopefully pleasantly surprised) or not. Insufficient or inappropriate tagging may lead to misunderstandings and/or dismay, and that's exactly why everyone out there usually does abide to the common courtesies of tagging their 'junk', no?
ANONYMOUS POSTING:
This blog will henceforth not waste time screening explicit "Anonymous" fics, nor posting them. Because if someone refuses to put their name on it it's usually for dubious reasons (one of them recently featured bestiality, go figure) so why should we?
BLACKLISTS:
People create these spaces to present their content and all the safewords and blacklists are unfortunately a necessity, ultimately to protect ourselves as well as everyone else. And as stated in the initial post - we will be filtering only extreme content (rape, underage, gore, incest, beast, etc) so please use your own regular blacklists for anything else. If there are any other discrepancies or inconsistencies to this rule, please inform us and we shall review accordingly.
UNRELATED DISCUSSIONS:
This blog is not here to facilitate discussions (be it about systemic issues, encroaching the spaces of others - or authorial egos and other similar nonsense) nor to arbitrate personal issues and conflicts - it is here ONLY for the fanfiction, good vibes and (hopefully great) stories about the characters we all love. So if you feel inclined to, only fanfiction reviews, recommendations, questions, suggestions and proposals will be (wholeheartedly! :) encouraged.

I'm am completely tired of people crapping on villians and not trying to understand their perspectives I am really sick of the fandom doing all this
Me too, anon, me too. That's exactly why I create this blog.
I've said it before, but if someone decides to ignore the villains and their narratives through the manga, that person is not going to be able to read correctly the main arc.
In bnha / mha, the villains are not simple side characters. Shigaraki Tomura has the same relevance as Midoriya Izuku, for example. They are direct parallels and together they work as the representations of the theme. If my speculations and metas are correct, you have all the main characters directly interacting with the villains to reach the climax of the series.
Besides, it really frustraste me that people are unable to appreciate a character and how that character is written just because that said character is not "good". It completely takes the depth of the characters and the complexity of their buildings and create a shallow storyline. Even the characters in kids TV shows have different degrees of good and bad traits, because we are in an era of writing where we're exploring how real a character can get.
People can say "I like shallow, simple characters with very explicit plots that don't challenge my comprehension or my mind" and that would be perfectly fine, there's no shame in liking simple stuff. Instead, they invent every type of excuses to hate characters? And I mean, you can hate a character for your own personal reasons, but instigating a crusade against that character and the fans?
Also, many fans are unable to understand that there are not universal rules to judge characters WITHOUT the context. Lately I've seen so many people bringing things out of context and directly violating the original material not in rational ways (admitting something is fan modified, fan made, personal takes, etc) but in harmful serious ways, by telling others that what they see is the only possible point of view on the matter.
For example, I'm totally able to say that I hate Overhaul in the canon for what he did but I'm pretty much interested in the implications of his writing. I can write many aus about Overhaul without liking the character in a sentimental way, just because I as a writer want to explore the possibilities within this character. I can totally say Boku No Hero Academia is not the best written manga and still entirely love and rant about the worldbuilding daily.
When it comes to the villains, it is simply annoying to me how people refuse to acknowledge that they are some of the best written characters in the manga. Toga is one of the best written female characters in mha / bnha, Dabi has an intricate personal arc that involves the values of the hero system itself and Shigaraki Tomura is— I don't even have words for the amount of dedication Horikoshi put in Tomura. He's been driving the plot along with Izuku this whole time. I can even argue that Shigaraki is better written than Izuku, because he is way more deep in terms of motivations, psychological traits and way of acting.
People is free to hate the villains, but to refuse to see the greatness of their writing? And even then, it's incredible the amount of issues I've seen within the fans regarding the villains.
For example: Spinner as a character represents the racism within the bnha / mha world. He is an incredible character, he narrates the MVA arc, he's been there for the almost every arc of the villains... And yet he lacks popularity. Why? I know studio bones tends to take him out of the anime, but this also has a reason. Why studio bones thinks Spinner is not as relevant or popular as the others? It's safe to assume a group of fans don't care about him only because he "doesn't have the look".
Sometimes when I point out that the League is right about MANY issues within the hero system, some fans go great lengths to defend the heroes and shut down my arguments. I don't personally understand how people likes to ignore the fact that pro-heroes in bnha / mha are a mixture of the police-the army with the celebrity world. In the real world, we're right now living a whole situation regarding the values behind the police existence and the negative side of putting celebrities like they are gods. You can clearly see it reflected on the bnha / mha universe, the villains clearly point out the privileges of the pro-heroes and why the system promoting and manipulating such privileges has created the catastrophe they're going through. But apparently fans don't want to read that? Because heroes are supposed to be good and villains are supposed to be bad, I guess. They don't understand the hero-villain narrative has been dehumanizing the characters and the main arc of bnha / mha is working on it to show that more than heroes and villains and citizens, there are complex humans who don't fall into an absolute.
I'm sorry for ranting about this anon, but every time I read "villain fan" as in derrogatory, I laugh because I'm baffled. Most stories need a good antagonist for it to work. There are MANY types of antagonists and MANY types of villains and they just– they just ignore it? Like it is nothing? And then they pretend to judge the villains by only taking tiny parts of their personalities and stories and they pretend to say that is accurate?
I don't know what to say to that. I can only write meta to help people understand the villains better and show them why they are so important and impressive. If they don't want to acknowledge it, that's their problem.
I love to talk and discuss people with different points of view as long as we're able to keep things respectful, but the minute they start attacking me without even listening to my arguments, good bye.
I thank God for the block button every single day of my life.

New MASTERLIST WITH FILTER
Some of you have noticed that I posted yesterday a new masterlist. Unfortunatley I deleted by accident the new masterlist. Luckily I had a half-done backup. Oh Llama! So I did the rework and added even more tags.
Currently, this blog experiences some massive changes and improvements, as most of you have noticed already. The TAG system did improve. As a result of the current changes, a new overhaul has been done. As of today, you will get a brand-new MASTERLIST with a filter system. Yep, you heard it.
Our lovely tags will remain as they are, but they have been reorganized, and a bunch of existing ones has been added. Some spelling errors are fixed. The list did explode with the number of new tags. It was time to change something. 🤨
The good news is: Masterlist is now way bigger and split into several categories and alphabetical order. Bad news? Well, the old layout is gone. Bye-bye, old masterlist, you served well, but we don’t need you anymore. 😆
The new filter helps to get a better overview of the tags we have. Took nearly two (now almost four) days to restructure and organize that babe. But it looks much better now. Promise! So here are the changes: 😏

Howdy-do everyone,
I really don't want to write this, but this blog is going to get very different in the near future. I do live with my parents, who have even described themselves as helicopter parents, and I'm constantly worried they're going to find this blog.
I've come to love this community I've found, but from now on things are going to get seriously post-and-go each morning. I'm also filtering a LOT of tags and content that would be considered unacceptable in the unfortunate event that my parents find out about this blog. So if I used to like all your posts and suddenly appear to be skipping some, it's most likely because they're filtered.
Let me say again: I am NOT shutting down this blog or captainhawkeyepierce, my pride, joy, and baby. I'm going to go back to queuing posts on the latter, one a day to extend my margin. However, some major overhauls will be happening.
First off, I will no longer be accepting private messages, unfortunately even from people I've become friends with. I'm sorry to these people from the bottom of my heart, but it has gotten me into very serious hot water with my family in the past. I'll try to keep sending asks to those folks, even though it can never make up for regular conversation.
Fortunately, online schooling and my parents' professions provide a loophole. On my online days, of which there will be many following the Christmas brea, I will try to stay more active here.
Second, as I mentioned before, I will be taking advantage of Tumblr's system of filtering tags and content. A general basis is if you wouldn't discuss the subject in church or at a family reunion, it is most likely filtered. This is once again a precautionary measure in case my parents find out about this blog. Please do not mistake this for a personal grudge on my part against any subjects filtered; this is due to my parents' likeliness of taking offense to them.
Please note that these measures will hopefully cease eventually. One of my closest friends also lives down the road from me, and as soon as we have the money, time, and freedom we have a pact to move to the city, in which case I hope and plan to revive these blogs, but this could be a period of years with the way jobs pay and parents are here.
On my online days, I will continue to check the MASH and Mötley Crüe tags as often as is safe for me to do. These days I will also interact with more posts, but the amount of time I'm online may be severely diminished nonetheless. I have considered calling on a dear friend of mine with a similar sense of humor to also help me keep this blog running, but the likelihood of being outed prevents that. Even though I would trust this friend with my life, the risk is too great.
That is another concern of mine. At a later date, I may have to begin to hide or delete lgbt related posts, for fear of being outed. Anyone who's followed me for more than five minutes has probably heard me bemoan a homophobic family. And in my town in particular, it is extremely dangerous to be out to anybody, so my intent is to avoid that at all costs. Please do not mistake any deletion of posts for an act of bigotry; it is an act of self preservation.
I will update you further later today.

“Kurono.” Overhaul snapped. “We’re done for the day. Take Eri-chan to her room and give the new toy to keep her busy.”
Finishing the last part of the job, Kurono pinned Eri’s bandages and carried her. Watching as Overhaul left the room, he felt the little girl trembling in his hold. The past few days, his boss had been a little harsher on the girl and it showed when he opened her up without being warned. Patting her head, the flinch did not help in the tense aura surrounding the base.
Once he locked her doors, he walked down the dimly lit hall and passed by Overhaul’s office. The faint sound of him typing away in his laptop made him stop in his tracks. It was rare for him to even look at his laptop. Something must be bothering him more than ever, for sure.
Knocking on the door, he was told to come in and entered silently.
“You’re on the laptop.” He commented and lazily flopped on the sofa. Taking his mask off, he rubbed his face and leaned on the back rest.
“I can see that.” Overhaul’s eyes remained glued to the screen. “Is there something you need?”
“D’you talk to her yet?” He yawned and stretched his limbs. Legs ready to bounce should his boss show any sign of rage.
“That doesn’t concern you.”
“Just askin’.” He shrugged his shoulders and fiddled with his fingers. “Eri-chan’s in her room now and the toy still didn’t lighten her mood. Not that it ever works.”
He merely hummed and continued typing.
“Mind if I ask what exactly happened?” Kurono sat up with perfect posture. His legs angled to the door, ready to make a run for it. The tension was too much. Even for the precepts. He could care less about the budding lovelife his boss had but the limit was drawing near. Hearing the laptop slam close, Kurono stood up and inched his way to the door.
“You have absolutely no business learning what happened behind those closed doors. But, if it pleases your curiosity, the woman mentioned her time with Ackerman.” Overhaul impatiently tapped his index finger on the desk. The other hand massaging his temple. “Satisfied?”
“What else did she say?”
“She said that her emotions aren’t there for the bastard and that she has her eyes set on someone else.”
For someone who played shogi skillfully, Kurono had to admit that his friend was as clueless as the word could imply. Using all of his strength not to twitch his eye at the ignorance being displayed, he let out a sigh and went back to the sofa.
“So why be pissed about it? Clearly she’s interested in you.”
“I am not pissed. I am merely agitated at the turn of events.” He stopped tapping his finger and stood up. Exiting himself out, he decided a long bath might cool his head.
“You do realize she only did that to rile you up. You’re losing to her game, Kai. I bet a shit ton of cash that she wanted to see if a reaction would suffice and looking at you now, she got exactly what she wished.” Kurono talked the fastest he’s ever attempted in his life. “I’ll also bet my money that you ignoring her only adds to her growing problems.”
“And what makes you say that, Kurono?” He was now facing the arrow-haired man. Fists clenched tightly.
“One of the men saw her entering Nighteye’s agency.”
“THAT Nighteye?” He cocked a brow and took a step closer to the sofa.
“Yes. Her car remained parked for quite some time. By the time she left, I was told she was speeding towards the precinct.”
Gathering his thoughts, Chisaki found himself seated across Kurono. His bird mask resting on the table between them. The surgical mask now on full display showing the shadows his face offered. Without realizing it, his brows were furrowed and teeth gritting.
“If it’s bothering you, why not just call her or send a message.” Kurono shrugged.
“If she has been spotted entering the agency, chances are she’s been part of the heroes schemes all this time.” He was nodding to himself. “And she had the audacity to act like she was part of nothing. Smart move for her but not careful enough.”
Squinting at the train of thought he had just heard, Kurono rested his elbows on his thighs.
“So, you think she’s teaming up with the heroes?”
“She is.” He leaned on the back rest.
“She told you?”
“Not outright.”
“What gave her away then?”
“The night I left, she mentioned how the heroes don’t have a clear map of the base and only an outline. That was either a slip or intentional. From the turn of events, it may have been accidental.” The memory of that night, having his body so close to yours made him fiddle with the hem of his gloves. The scene of having your flushed face so near to his made him smirk under the black mask. Glancing at the calendar, though there was no need, it had been three days since the both of you contacted each other.
“Do you think we’ve been bugged?” Kurono asked. His eyes darting from one corner of the room to the other.
“No.” Crossing his arm against his chest, he let out a long sigh. “Not yet, at least. But knowing them, it’s bound to happen and they will use (y/n) for that.”
“What do you intend on doing?”
“Buy me a new sim tomorrow, Kurono. It’s best if communication is cut. The Quirk erasing bullets are nearing its completion. Any upcoming hindrances would disrupt the plan.” Taking his phone out, he checked for any messages. Seeing as there were none, he turned it off and threw the sim card across the table. The small plastic landing inches away from the edge.
“You’re not going to overhaul it?” This was something he was not expecting.
“No. Burn it.”
“You’re…” He took the sim into his hand. “You’re really serious about this.”
"Those rats are on the move. The chances of her bugging our base is high. Knowing she's not the type to refuse, it is best to cancel out any communication." Picking up his mask, he let out a silent sigh and wore the said item. "No need to fret, Kurono. I've already prepared the necessary actions."
"Knowing you, there's no need to fret." He too took his mask and wore it as well. Fixing his hood, he stared at his friend. "What about the Fukuo Kai case?"
"That is in two months. The hype would have died down." Standing up, he fixed his coat and motioned Kurono to follow him out. "Besides. If (y/n) really has an interest in me, she would know the perils of harboring emotions. Let's go. I'm famished."
"Pardon?" Kurono stopped walking and stared at the back of his boss.
"Even the strongest villains need nourishment."
"Oh, uh, sure." Not sure what to do next, he rubbed the hems of hood. "Shall I ready the car?"
Seeing the nod, he blinked himself back to reality and went separate ways. Walking towards the garage, the blue-haired man replayed the events. He wasn't too sure but he could feel how your mannerisms were slowly rubbing off of Kai. Not that he minded, it was just… weird.
Taking the sim from his pocket, Kurono weighed out the options of burning or keeping the small object. Kai or even Overhaul wasn't too fond of keeping mementos, but his sense of gratitude was always strong. His ways of repaying debts were always admirable, no matter how absurd his methods may be.
Once he was now seated in the car, he knew exactly what to do with it.
The following day, Tsukauchi took his seat beside you. A brown paper bag now resting on your desk. After the heart to heart talk inside your car, you are more than glad that nothing has changed. He still treated you as his partner, as well as his close friend.
"Here are some updates for the Fukuo Kai." Reaching out for a folder, Tsukauchi pulled it with his fingertips till he finally grasped it. "We have detected some movements in their western branch. Me and the 4th division will be checking them out 3 days from now. Care to join?"
Checking your schedule, it was vacant and you agreed.
"So what're your plans now?" He asks while grabbing a small chip from your meal. "Nighteye?"
"Yeah. They’ll be discussing who’s who within the eight precepts.” Despite trying your best, you couldn’t help the slight slumping of your shoulders. Slowly nodding at the words that left your mouth, you chuckled and shook your head.
“Are you debating whether or not to tell him you're a part of the scheme?”
“I can’t but I feel like he’s caught up. I tried to call him last night. Yes, I know it’s cheap of me. But, his number was unavailable so…”
“He probably was off doing villainous deeds.” Tsukauchi patted your head and dragged his seat back to his cubicle. “He’d be a real jerk if he won’t contact you within the next few days. Trust me. Not even bad guys can resist the temptation of women.”
“You’re making me sound like a prostitute, Nao~” You commented while checking your emails. For now, nothing caught your eye. The occasional spam emails were present and one from Hawks but you could save that for later. Any more birdmen was not in your priority.
A few minutes passed and you were now engrossed in typing reports. When the lights of your company telephone lit up, your eyes darted to Namase’s door. It had been a long time since the both of you conversed, or let alone saw each other. The fact that he was calling you only meant bad news. Recalling every case you left unsolved, you were quite confident that this was nothing worth worrying about.
Picking up the phone, you braced yourself.
“Namase?”
“Bet you’re wondering why I called you, right?” Right. You forgot. This man held no filter whatsoever. “Well no need to worry. I just had to inform you that we received an anon caller. Do you wanna put him on the line?”
“An Anon caller? For what case?” You grabbed a pen and paper.
“For the Arson case.”
“Can you put him on the line?”
“Sure~”
Namase put the Anon caller thru and you waited till you were sure he wasn’t eavesdropping.
“Hello?” Even if you weren’t sure whether or not you should receive this call.
“Is this (l/n)-san?” His voice was low but clear enough for you to hear. “I think I have some good information about the fires.”
“I’d love to hear it but I had to hand over the case to the HPSC not too long ago. I can give you their hotline number if you want.”
“They scare me. I would prefer it if it was you who passed the message to them. Are you free later at 4pm?”
“Let me just check my schedule.” You knew you were free but you felt the need to look up the person. “Can I have your name, if that’s alright?”
“Tetsu.”
“Okay, Tetsu-san. Where do you want to meet up? Is a cafe alright? Or do you want a private room in the precinct?”
“A cafe please.”
“Alright, We can meet by the Nooks and Books. ’ll be the one wearing black. I’ll see you later.”
With no greetings, the line ended and you put the phone down. Gathering your stuff, you began to skim through each article you recently read about fires. Granted it had been a while since you last heard any news about fires, the tip was or could be useful. Of course having to talk to the HPSC was something you were not looking forward to.
“Nao, I’ll be taking my leave now. Anything you want me to bring when I come back?” You peaked into his rather messy cubicle. “Geez. Calm down with your cases, buddy.”
“This is only for the meantime.” He scratched his neck and stared at the scattered papers and folders. “I’d like a creampuff, though. A creampuff sounds nice in these trying times.”
“Aight. I’ll bring you a box later.” You said as you exited the floor.
It only took a few minutes but you were now seated in another desk. One where you wished you were not a part of. Greeting the heroes who had just entered the meeting room, you smiled at the sight of Deku and Mirio.
“(l/n)-san! Long time no see!” Deku greeted you and took the vacant seat beside you. “How’s work?”
“Work is work. How’s school? Are you holding up? Must be difficult to juggle this raid and academics.”
“It is but we have supplementary classes so I can manage.”
“Your classmates with Uraraka, Asui, and Kirishima, right?”
“Yeah!”
Exchanging a few more small talk with the heroes, you locked eyes with the hero sitting beside you. The scruffy hair, eyes that looked like they haven’t slept a single second, and the trademark scarf resting on his shoulders. Giving a shy smile, Aizawa merely responded with a lazy nod before Nighteye finally entered the room.
“As you all know, today’s agenda will be task distribution. Let’s get on with the details now, shall we?”
The tasks were distributed rather well. Fatgum Agency would be accompanying the front of the team. Right alongside Nighteye and Aizawa. The other heroes were tasked to stay outside and guard the entrance for any possible nuances that might occur. The police staff were divided into two groups. Being given ample time to assign which officers would be in the outer and inner group, you merely nodded and took the list of names.
‘Great. More work.’ Flipping the pages, most officers were people you had worked with before. At least things wouldn’t be so difficult.
“(l/n)-san?” Nighteye snapped your thoughts away. Adjusting his glasses, he rested his elbows on the desk and leaned in. “How’s the task of bugging Overhaul?”
“I haven’t been in touch with any of them for a few days now. I will be trying this week if the situation allows.”
“Alright. If that succeeds then things will go much smoother and will surely pick up speed. Best of luck. Any questions?”
“Are there any updates about the League of Villains being tied with them?” Deku asked.
“As of the moment, there’s no movement from them. So, it’s safe to assume that they only have minor participation in said event.” Nighteye replied without batting an eyelash. He really was confident in this raid.
Feeling guilt rushing through your veins, you shifted in your seat and silently exhaled. Once Nighteye gave the adjournment, you scurried out of the room and made your way to the cafe. It was a bit traffic but you would still be able to arrive on time. With the cafe being near the station, parking would be no trouble.
When things were now settled, you were now walking towards the cafe and found yourself now standing in front of the cashier and saying your order. Taking your number, you looked for a private booth and sat there. It rested in the corner so Tetsu wouldn’t be too uncomfy.
When the clock struck 4, you were now staring at the lobby waiting for that Tetsu to arrive.
Sure enough, a man with a hood entered the cafe and made eye contact with you. Seeing as he walked towards your booth, it was safe to assume that this was Tetsu.
“Are you Tetsu?” You asked the man wearing the hood. With the sunglasses and mask, you could only make out such little skin his face had.
“I cannot stay long. But I came to hand this over.” He slid a small brown envelope. His head hanging low making sure you wouldn’t catch a glimpse at his covered face. “I hope this can assist your case.”
“To be fair, please stay while I go through the contents of this envelope.” Taking the envelope, you slid the content out only to have a sim card laying flat on your palm. “What kind of information does this hold, Tetsu-san?”
“That information is sensitive so you can check its contents before handing it over.”
“But, I’m not part of the Arson case anymore. Would you still want me to hand this in or redact a few messages.”
Overhaul did not mention you were no longer part of the case. Cursing at how blank his mind was, Kurono glanced at the environment before he exhaled deeply.
“I will only say this once, so listen carefully.” He uttered.
“This isn’t about the Arson case now, is it?” Sliding the sim card back, you carefully placed it inside your bag and focused on Tetsu. The words that came out of his mouth made your heart beat faster. Clenching your fists, you braced for whatever he would say next.
“Kai has been on edge and it’s been such a pain in the ass. I don’t know what the hell made you decide to mention Ackerwacker but you got what you wished for.” Kurono’s voice was low. Barely audible due to the cafe’s music. “But, it would be a lie if I said he hasn’t been more human ever since he met you.”
“Can you take your mask and shades off?”
“You’ll probably just arrest me right here.” Kurono took his shades off revealing familiar gray eyes.
“You were that guy from the restaurant?” Your eyes widened at the realization that Overhaul had interfered that early on. “Not that I’m complaining or anything, but ya’ll did me a great favor.”
A slight smirk appeared on his lips as he took the mask off. It felt different having his face exposed after a long time.
“I can see why he took interest in you.”
“Why meet me, though? Wouldn’t this only risk in you being overhauled and shit?”
“I have my ways. Kai instructed me to get rid of his sim card but I don’t know. Perhaps you can make use of it in your private life.”
“Well, to be honest, the heroes don’t fully trust me.” You shrugged. That was nothing new. “It sucks having to juggle work and personal feelings in this particular case. Guess both of us are in a pinch.”
“Perks of being with Kai.”
“You should probably get going… Chronostasis, right?” Putting his disguise back on, a switch flipped in your mind. “Hey you mind if I get your number? If you have one, ofcourse.”
“Why?”
“I like to make my connections.” You winked. When he took out his phone, you in turn took something out of your pocket. Placing it on the table, you pushed the small box towards the villain. “I’ll text you the instructions later, aight?”
“What’s this?”
“You’ll know when you open it.”
With that, Kurono pocketed the small box and left the cafe. When he was out of sight, you rubbed your face and groaned.
“Damn it.”

GIMP TUTORIAL: BATCH PROCESSING & EXPORTING
necessary downloads and plugins can be found here.
watch out kiddos, i’m about to automate your entire life.
got your icons ready? let’s roll. if not, see my other tutorial.
BATCH PROCESSING.
we’re gonna load all of our icons in. i don’t know about you guys, but i’ve processed over 1000 icons at a time before and gimp handles it like a damn beast.
feel free to make a psd as you please. for mine, i made my icons 80x80 and added and multiply, dodge(l), and overlay layer (from top to bottom, for reference) with some splashes of color for instant fanciness.
a new feature to gimp, as it has faced its gigantic overhaul last year, is that some of the layer modes function differently. and there are new ones. if you’re used to old-gimp’s layer modes, you can get the legacy (l) version of the layer modes by clicking the little button next to the layer modes and changing it to legacy.
when you’ve made your psd, for the love of god, name your layers. you’ll want them to be in order later, especially if you have more than two layers in your psd. mine are simply 1, 2, and 3. you’ll see why in just a sec.
when you’re happy with your psd, now we’re going to make use of animstack, which uses a tag system to apply changes. the tag we’re going to use is [fg], which will tell the plugin to apply the layer to the foreground of every untagged layer. put the tag on the end of your psd’s layer names like so:
because animstack works from top to bottom, you have to invert the order of your psd layers, or else they’ll process backwards. if your psd layers are in order of 3, 2, 1, they will now be 1, 2, 3. it’ll look weird, but just bear with it.
now for processing! you’ll want to navigate to filters > animation > process animstack tags. and then, you get to watch as it applies your psd layers to every icon. it’ll take a while if you have a lot of icons, but it’s nice if you need a pee break and/or a cup of coffee.
zooooooooooooooom.
when everything’s done, each of your icons has its own respective folder with the psd inside.
now, let’s batch save these bad boys.
go to file > export layers...
and choose the folder you want to export to.
it should look like this, but DON’T SAVE YET! there are some changes to make. if you look at the preview on the right, it shows how the images are going to export. it will try to export your psd layers individually, which is no bueno.
go to settings > show more settings on the bottom left.
it should open up some settings that look like this. uncheck the box that says include layers. then, click add constraint... and select include layer groups.
see how it compresses your folders into individual files. that’s what we want.
export! it should bring up another pop-up (sometimes it comes up minimized, so open it up) and hit export again.

As students transition from school to their careers the ministry has offered a new program to facilitate the training and number of applicants and new recruits. These apprenticeships span many different departments and allow the young recruits to have access to heads of departments, training and resources not previously available. The ministry is thrilled to offer this as an option to many students filtering out of Hogwarts and into positions that will benefit them and facilitate their upward movement in their departments. Each department is prepared to accept a certain number of applicants for these apprenticeship positions, which are paid with benefits available. The ministry wants to encourage young adults to choose a career with them, especially as the Wixen world deals with the complications of a budding war. There is an overwhelming pressure for the bureaucracy to shape up and overhaul many departments and these apprenticeships could lead to positions that would otherwise take many years to achieve.
These training programs accelerate the pieced together training offered normally, educating interns with more information and access than ever before. In tandem with other areas of the Wixen world as well as the existing entry level jobs available, the ministry is hoping to produce more prepared and better trained professionals who can be offered more respect and opportunity for advancement in their careers. Sold under the slogan ‘Building a Better Future Today’, how much of it is really an investment in the youth and how much is keeping a watchful eye on everyone?
The jobs listed here are meant as the main reference point for choosing a career for graduate characters. If you are having trouble finding a job for your character or have an idea not listed here we’re more than happy to help find a fit or create one.
Apprenticeships
Preexisting training courses and those newly crafted, the following apprenticeships are designed to filter new blood into some of the most highly skilled careers on offer. You can enter a career both in the ministry or outwith through these apprenticeships and with the ‘Building a Better Future Today’ guarantee; you’ll earn as you learn.
Ministry Apprenticeships
Auror Training Program — 3 years
The front line in fighting dark magic, while not always the first in the field their investigative forces in combination with their field prowess has solidified their reputation. The internship is now one of only two routes into this highly respected and competitive job, the other being a fully qualified Hit Wix retraining. Auror and Hit Wix training has recently relocated to Hogsmeade.
Rapid Response Division (Hit Wix) — 2 years
While the Aurors run the investigative side of fighting the dark side, the Hit Wix are the first responders after an incident. First in the field and first in the line of fire the Hit Wix are a highly trained and highly dedicated group of individuals. While their training program is less competitive than Auror training, as the one route into the Rapid Response Division it still draws a large number of applicants. Auror and Hit Wix training has recently relocated to Hogsmeade.
Accidental Magic Reversal Squad — Field — 18 months
The Accidental Magic Reversal Squad, while dull sounding, is incredibly important in terms of community safety. accidental magic accidents can happen to anyone, particularly younger Wizards and Witches who are not always in full control of their magic, especially those of muggleborn descent, whose families may not always understand what is happening. When this happens, they are on-scene to fix the situation before it can get out of hand, in keeping with the international statute of secrecy. While a lot of the work involved may appear basic, it is important that members of this team are ready for any situation, often including working in coordination with several other departments. This internship is for field operatives only an in the first few months overlaps heavily with Obliviator Field Training and as such applicants can swap between programs.
Obliviator Field Training — 18 months
Being an Oblivator is rarely any young Wix’s dream career but this vital role has so much overlap with other departments work and Obliviators are so in demand that the ministry tries to funnel as many graduates into it as possible. A good memory is key as they are required to remember the incredibly precise cover stories in order to only remove the necessary memories and nothing of importance. An inexperienced or ill prepared Obliviator can cause more damage than repair and so these team members are highly skilled. Whether in the field with Aurors or the accidental magic reversal squad or even cooperating with the Department of Magical Creatures, no day is ever the same.
Department of Magical Creatures — Consultants — 18 months
One could almost say the consultants are removed from the day to day operations of the Department of Magical Creatures; rather than being those with a drive to help (or police) the creatures of the Magical world these individuals are instead those with and intense fascination for said creatures. The Care of Magical Creatures nerds or those who always wanted a dragon for Christmas. The fact checkers, and the office bound members of this department, consultants are here to help the rest of their department be prepared for every situation. These consultants work very hard, lending their expertise and exhaustive research to ensure the safety and proper handling of not just their team members, but the creatures as well. A strong grade in Care of Magical Creatures is required to get anywhere near this apprenticeship.
Department of International Magic Cooperation — 1 year
The Department of International Magic Cooperation is the truly political side of the Ministry. These people represent the Ministry and act as its voice when travelling to other Ministries. These are people who have often been promoted from other departments, for varying reasons - being multilingual, elevated social status, mediation skills, and more. But more recently the Ministry has tried recruiting straight out of Hogwarts. The diplomats dream, the Department of International Magic Cooperation can be tricky to get into, but those who do tend to finish their careers here.
Apparation Education — 1 year
It is one thing to be able to apparate, it is another entirely to have mastered it to the point that you can educate others. Even completing this internship is no guarantee that you’ll one day teach as many years of training is required to one day teach. Instead most who follow through with this training program instead end up working in testing. Some mastery of charms is required for on the spot healing.
Quidditch League — 1 year
With the international attention on quidditch it’s no surprise that the training for future quidditch referees and officials is run by the ministry. Recruiting both quidditch fans straight from school and ex amateur and professional players, this program is surprisingly competitive due to the large amount of on the job training.
Department of Mysteries— 3 years
In the department of mysteries, even the research assistants have assistants, and interns in this department are here to support everyone, in whichever manner they can. While far from being an unspeakable with limited access to the dept of mysteries and everything contained within, every unspeakable started here. an entire department full of research and experimentation, coming into this apprenticeship guarantees you a lack of sleep, a dependency on caffeine, and probably a loss of social life, due to the hours you’ll be putting in. Those with a thirst for knowledge and strong work ethic will do well here, as long as they can handle the pressure. There is no option to apply directly to this department, instead applicants to other programs, and even entry level jobs, are invited to interview for an undisclosed job.
External Apprenticeships
Cursebreaker, in partnership with Gringotts Bank — 2 years
A career in this field is an exciting one, the promise of danger and adventure is a true one. Once fully trained a cursebreaker can break into smaller specialities and find work in many different ways and places. Through the ministry and Gringott’s are two popular destinations for a comfortable and lucrative career. But one may also end up treasure hunting and freelancing. This is not a career for the faint of heart or anyone missing a few NEWTs, Gringotts is seeking highly driven and skilled graduates to be further trained and will not waste resources on anyone they feel is not cut out for the job.
Wandmaker, in partnership with Hornby’s of Hogsmeade — 2 years with further training required afterwards
When one thinks of a wandmaker, usually Hornby’s is not one that first comes to mind. For many years those makers, the likes of Ollivander’s and Gregorovich, dominated the industry while Hornby’s was quietly working away, creating and supplying wonderful wands to those who needed them at a lower price tag. Wands for the hard working witch or wizard, Hornby’s have a few limited wandmaking apprenticeships, a rare entry point into a very closed off industry.
Healer, in partnership with St Mungo’s — 3 years
St Mungo’s is pleased to offer this opportunity to any student that wants to become a healer, it is an accelerated and immersive program not for the faint of heart. The work is hard but important, especially as tensions rise, the need for healers rises. A healer for St Mungo’s will face challenges such as curse and hex removal, potion reversals, magical accidents and catastrophes, broken bones and all manner of other complaints. But going home at the end of the day with a full heart makes the hard work and long road to become a healer worth it.
Mediwix, in partnership with St Mungo’s — 2 years
Mediwix go through the same educational and training requirements as healers but find themselves in different scenarios and situations. Mediwix attend sporting events and are on scene to attend to any injuries suffered, they can be employed by the team itself, or by a dragonologists reserve or any number of other exciting positions that require on sight medical care. This also encompasses what muggles may call nurses, who assist the healers and may assist in on special magical treatment and surgeries. Mediwix spend more time with actual patients than most of their medical counterparts and the job requires a focus and tenderness unmatched elsewhere.
Mediwix, in partnership with St Mungo’s and the Department of Magical Law Enforcement (Field Mediwix) — 2 years
In this specialised program mediwix are trained not only in field medicine and general practice but in trauma and combat. They are on the front lines of any conflict and help keep muggles and wizards alike safe. These mediwix work directly with aurors and hit wix and are on call 24/7. It is a tough job but someone has to do it and if you feel cut out for something challenging than this is the right choice for you!
Broadcast Media, in partnership with Wizarding Wireless Network — 1 year
This area of media is for those with a voice, one that can be heard by the masses. Singers, comedians, sports broadcasting etc, this is the home for all of that. Wixen in this speciality are trained, voice lessons and appearances and interviews, ready to become the voices the wizarding world loves, laughs at and listens to in good times and bad. Professionals come out of this program ready to become professional performers, announcers for the national quidditch teams and more, so sign up today and make your voice heard!
Print Media, in partnership with The Daily Prophet — 1 year
If finding the truth is your calling then find your way into this program. Hands on experience in the newsroom and cutting room floor of the Daily Prophet is invaluable to anyone hoping to become a journalist. From beauty columns to investigative pieces and politics, there is intrigue and fascination in every word, on every page. Come be a part of one of the most important career fields the wizarding world has to offer, come find the truth!
Security, in partnership with Hazim Droll: Security and Security Trolls — 1 year
The wizarding worlds most important jobs may often go unseen but protecting our places and people is beyond a necessity. Hazim Droll company is offering a course on protection, private and commercial to anyone with the presence to try. Fitness, stealth, combat magic and more is taught in this program and should attract the sort that finds strength vital. Come display your prowess and become a trusted member of this impressive service.
Entry Level
Not everything can be revamped, not everything needs replaced, and not everyone has the NEWT grades needed to get onto a ‘Better Future’ course. That’s where the entry level ministry jobs come in, with a handful of middling OWL results the world is your oyster! Or at least the world of lower level bureaucracy.
Improper Use of Magic Office
An office that is at once called a vital touchstone in the defence of the wizarding world and a vipers nest of needless bureaucracy, it would be an understatement to say the Improper Use of Magic Office is an odd place to work. Commonly referred to as a necessary evil, but evil none the less, this department is constantly flooded with paperwork and flying memos turn the room a stark purple with their whizzing and presence. Clerks here must sort through dozens of reports a day and decide which need to be addressed further and which can be tossed. If they are to be addressed further they must stamp and mark them in triplicate and pass them on to the correct department. They deal with a majority of the other departments and perhaps therefore experience the most varied social lives within the ministry, however they are not terribly popular due to them sending even more required paperwork to the various departments they work with.
Accidental Magic Reversal Squad — Office
The Accidental Magic Reversal Squad, while dull sounding, is incredibly important in terms of community safety. Accidental magic accidents can happen to anyone, particularly younger Wizards and Witches who are not always in full control of their magic, especially those of Muggleborn descent, whose families may not always understand what is happening. When this happens those in the Accidental Magic Office are there to ensure that a response can be decided and implemented before things get out of hand. Heavily involved in keeping with the international statute of secrecy, this department deals both with upholding the statute and logistics. In a fair number of responses heavy coordination with the Obliviator office is required so cross promotion between these two departments is common.
Wizengamot Administration Services
Perhaps the reason why the Wizengamot Administration Services has a higher percentage of muggleborns than most ministry offices is due to the fact it has the most direct muggle equivalent. With varied roles ranging from scheduling the Wizengamot and scheduling the daily calendar for the Wizengamot to providing individual secretaries for each member of the Wizengamot and those highly placed in the ministry; the clerks and secretaries for the Wizengamot are the most valuable and highly skilled. They perform their tasks with speed and accuracy and are highly coveted by their chosen representative on the Wizengamot. This department is very competitive and among the highest paid, with opportunities to manage future campaigns for elected seats and sit on some meetings and cases. Clerks are those responsible for the entire Wizengamot, including some degree of input into the assignment of secretary. Current clerks interview and train their replacements and despite the title of clerk or secretary they are quite respected in the ministry.
Obliviator Office
Being an Obliviator is rarely any young Wix’s dream career and being one of those responsible for determining if an Obliviator is necessary even less so. Smaller than the departments they coordinate with, the Obliviator’s often just verify their services are required and then send field operatives to act on those departments orders. Of course they still have to devise the cover stories and be incredibly precise in order for the field operatives to only remove the necessary memories and nothing of importance. An inexperienced or ill prepared Obliviator can cause more damage than repair and so these team members ensure they are always prepared. A muggleborn once compared the art of obliviation to that of brain surgery, though this is not quite understood by most Obliviators.
Muggle Worthy Excuses Committee
This department deals with minor incidents that need a bit of explanation to muggles but nothing that might end up on the evening news, just page eight of the next mornings paper if anything. It is a very small department with perhaps a half dozen people who spend their days writing and cataloguing explanations or excuses and filing them away for future use or adding them to the files that come across their desks slightly regularly. It is a very relaxed office and one couldn’t exactly say it’s busy but it comes with the same full ministry benefits package and can be attractive to those needing a ministry job but lacking in ambition.
Beast, Being and Spirit Division Office
The Beast, Being and Spirit Division Offices are responsible for registering, protecting, and overseeing many groups, and as such there are many fields of expertise to be found within this department. Those who work in these offices are the first to investigate claims of sightings or disturbances, and will determine if action is necessary in their field, and if it is, will determine the appropriate response. It can certainly be dangerous, but those with a level of travel and affinity for creatures may do well here.
Pest Advisory Office
Like any pest, those of the magical variety sometimes need specialist attention. The Pest Advisory Office is a service of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures and operates via an owl post helpline. Focused on assisting magical households with pest problems and supporting the relocation of such creatures, the Pest Advisory Office has many entry level opportunities available, whether your skills be in Pixie trapping, Chizperfles collection or simply allocating tasks to officers, the Pest Advisory Office could be for you.
Floo Network Authority
A modest but highly important part of the ministry, the Floo Network Authority regulates, maintains and connects the Floo network within the UK. Regulation Officers have the job of making sure paperwork, and connection status’ are up to date while Connections Specialists get to travel in order to maintain and connect new Floo lines. Both office bound and field bound positions are exciting job prospects that can sometimes have you listening in to various private conversations while regulating lines or have you visit some interesting places.
Broom Regulatory Control
The Department of Transportation simply couldn’t function without this integral part of it. The Broom Regulatory control office has the important task of approving new broom models before they go out for purchase. They are also the ones to provide rules for broom use and are in constant communication with other departments when any broom or wix on a broom may endanger the statute. The position is an interesting one, that can certainly have you seeing any of the newest broom’s and accessories before they hit the market.
Portkey Office
When one embarks on a career within the Portkey Office, one does not do so lightly. It is a role of great responsibility and requires an eye for detail. The Portkey Office coordinate portkeys both in the UK and Internationally. Members of this office must keep their wits about them as they are responsible for who comes and goes, what objects are used as portkeys and (maybe even the most important task of all) Muggle Management, to be sure that no Portkey falls into the hands of a muggle. If you think you have what it takes to be able to perform these tasks up to standard, then the Portkey Office could promise you a career of both national and international travel and a lifetime worth of antiquing.
Hogsmeade Shops
An office job isn’t for everyone, enter Hogsmeade. A twenty minute walk from Hogwarts and 30 minutes on broom from Kyle of Lochalsh, the entirely wixen village lies on the north western slopes of Sgùrr na Lapaich in Glen Strathfarrar and is the shopping hub for all Scottish wix.
Ceridwen’s Cauldrons
Ceridwen’s offers skills and careers in smithing and metallurgy along with your standard sales focused roles. There is also the promise of innovation and invention, as the birthplace of the self stirring cauldron. Ceridwen’s is family owned and operated but are always looking for a few extra folks to come into the fold.
Dervish & Banges
A place for the tinkerers among us, a job at Dervish & Bagnes offers hands on expierence with the crafting and repair of the wizarding worlds most common magical objects and instruments. A wide knowledge can be gained of how things work, and how to both break and fix many useful things employed in every day life.
Dogweed and Deathcap
This shop is exciting in that it houses rare and unique, and often dangerous, magical plants and greenery. A herbologists dream, the anyyone who works here should be prepared to deal with both the international magical cooperation imports office, and a lifetime of grubby hands.
Dominic Maestro’s
For the music savvy wix, Dominic has a lot to offer. The sell and repair of magical instruments, how to enchant and disenchant and your regular old tuning. Any wix who loves or plays music would find a happy match here.
Gladrags Wizard Wear
An exciting opportunity for any fashion forward wixen, Gladrags offers the chance to apprentice to those that not only design and make unique and interesting wizarding attire but the opportunity to travel to their sister stores in Paris, London and Diagon Alley. They’ve also chosen to supply both their trainee tailors and those who work the tills with unlimited unusual socks!
Hogsmeade Post Office
Though it may seem mundane, the post office actually houses two to three hundred owls who require care and training, so any wixen interested in working with magical creatures, or finding a good segue into that department in the ministry, may want to consider a job here.

When the brightness and cleanliness of The Three Broomsticks isn’t quite your cup of tea the Hog’s Head Inn ins where to go. Despite it’s reputation the food is good and the limited rooms are surprisingly clean. A job here mightn’t pay as well as others but the interesting clientele does make up for it.

Who wouldn’t want to work in a sweets shop? The chance to smell like sugar quills and bring smiles to the faces of patrons and students is one that should not be passed up. Working in a fast pasted a business like Honeydukes is invaluable and the perks are innumerable, better get on this quick before the spots all fill up!

When one thinks of a wandmaker, usually Hornby’s is not one that first comes to mind. For many years those makers, the likes of Ollivander’s and Gregorovich, dominated the industry while Hornby’s was quietly working away, creating and supplying wonderful wands to those who needed them at a lower price tag. There are only so many plants one woman can take care of, even with magic assistance, hence why Professor Sprout has two assistants helping her to maintain Hogwart’s greenhouses.
History of Magic — Cuthbert Binns
Does Professor Binns know he has teaching assistants? Many would claim he doesn’t, but that hasn’t stopped three people from claiming they have the job. And after all… a ghost can’t mark essays.
Muggle Studies — Gavin Janus
In muggle schools there is such a thing as ‘show and tell’, being Professor Janus’ teaching assistant makes ‘show and tell’ your job description. But hey! For one muggleborn it’s an easy paycheck.
Potions — Horace Slughorn
A recommendation from any teacher at Hogwarts can make or break even an international career, a recommendation from a man with Professor Slughorn’s connections doubly so. And if you’re able to add having been his assistant for a year? No door is closed. But there is one thought that all three assistants share — is it really worth doing all of Sluggy’s job for him?
Study of Ancient Runes — Bathsehda Babbling
Wix from other countries are always surprised to hear Bathsehda Babbling called Professor Babbling, her reputation is her field is unparalleled and yet she still teaches? Much like Professor Flitwick, Professor Babbling’s teaching assistant is primarily there to study from her.
Transfiguration — Minerva McGonagall
Perhaps the only teacher at Hogwarts who holds their teaching assistants to the letter of their job title. Teaching assistant, they .are there to help her teach; from wrangling classes of first years, to helping prepare students for their OWL exams, to helping her mark essays. Professor McGonagall takes her job seriously and she expects her two assistants to do the same.

What is a rarepair?
What is a rarepair?
As far as this zine is concerned, a “rare pair” is a ship with 400 tags or less on AO3, without filters.
Here is a list of just a few examples of rare pairs that meet this qualification: [Click] (This list is by no means exhaustive--there are hundreds of other rare pairs possible in BNHA, and we encourage you to think of all kinds of unexpected combos!)
A ship I wanted to write about/draw has more than 400 tags, but it’s definitely still rare!
We know that some ships end up tagged incorrectly or only ever show up in the background. If you want to draw/write for a ship that has more than 400 unfiltered fics on AO3, send us an ask on Tumblr or a tweet on Twitter, and we’ll be happy to take a look at the ship to confirm whether or not it will work for the zine.
Which characters/ships have been excluded from the zine?
Based on the results of our interest check, Endeavor/Enji Todoroki, All for One, Overhaul/Kai Chisaki, Dr. Ujiko, and Mineta Minoru will be excluded from this zine. That means that no ships containing any of these characters will appear in One in a Million.
Our rules also exclude all of the following:
Any ships containing a canon adult character with a canon minor character, even in aged-up or AU scenarios.
Any ships containing incest or intentionally abusive situations.
Any NSFW depictions of ships.
What about polyships?
So long as they are: 1) at 400 tags on AO3 or less, 2) do not contain any excluded characters, and 3) do not include any of the other content blocked by our rules, then yes, your favorite rare pair polyships will also be permitted!
What about third-year students? Does the no adult/minor rule still apply?
We’re not in the business of making exceptions to our zine’s no adult/minor content rule, but we do recognize that the third-year students are in a very unique situation with their current ages being right on the threshold, the manga’s timeline, and the fact that our zine will not be published until June 2020. Based on all that, we have decided to treat the third-year students as adults for the purposes of this zine. Feel free to submit apps shipping the third-year students with other third-years and characters of similar ages, but not with anyone younger or with any teachers, please!
When I applied, my rare pair had less than 400 tags, but now it has more than 400! Will my app be disqualified?
Nope, don’t worry! We know that some ships are right under the 400 limit currently. So long as the ship was below 400 when you submitted your app, you will not be disqualified if it passes 400 after the fact.

I had a great week with two big changes. First, there is an optional 'Qt6' version of the program for advanced users to try out, and second, File Import Options has some important updates.
Qt5 and Qt6
If you are a regular user, stick with the Qt5 versions of the release this week. It is the same as before.
Hydrus is moving up to a new version of its UI library, Qt. The new version has a ton of bug fixes and generally better support for newer OS concepts like UI scaling. I am going to be putting out releases for both 5 and 6 for a month or two, testing it with advanced and then normal users, and then will switch to 6 exclusively. Everything seems to be going well, and you don't have to do anything.
If you are an advanced user though, please try out the Qt6 builds. They work exactly the same as the old ones. Just to be careful, I recommend you not try them on your real database first off, and doubly so if you do not have a great backup. I am not worried about database damage, but you never know, and if there are problems, I don't want to give you inconvenience on your main install. Try a fresh extract on your desktop first to make sure it boots ok, and then delete that extract. Then, if you want to try it on your real database, try doing a 'clean install' as here: https://hydrusnetwork.github.io/hydrus/getting_started_installing.html#clean_installs
If you don't do a clean install, you'll still have Qt5 dlls in your install folder and the client will default to the older version (for now). If you are a macOS user, you don't have the concept of 'clean install', so just run the App as normal, but make sure you have a backup of your database first. There's also no Windows Qt6 installer yet. You can check help->about to see what version of Qt is currently running.
So far, the update has been remarkably smooth for me, with very few bugs. A user has been watching the situation for me and kindly provided a patch to deal with the most important syntax changes, so moving over has not been a massive pain in the neck. I've been using it IRL for a few days now and I think things are just that bit smoother and less flickery.
I am particularly interested in Linux and macOS users' feedback. So far, the main limitation I know about is that Windows 7 can't run Qt6 (it is just too old), but there may be other issues in other platforms. Let me know, and we'll see if we can iron them out.
I am going to keep hydrus Qt5 compatible, so anyone who needs to stay on it but wants to keep updating will have the option of running from source.
file import options
My other plan for this week was getting 'note parsing' working for the downloader. I laid out everything I would have to do, and the first bulky thing I have to do is get 'Note Import Options' integrated. That will be a surprising amount of work, and over some ugly areas, so I decided to take things a little slower and do some cleanup beforehand so I could do it properly.
So, this week I overhauled some of how File Import Options works. There is some behind the scenes work to make all the import options work a little nicer, and also, on the front end, File Import Options now does two new things:
First, File Import Options now has a filetype filter. You can say 'only allow jpegs' or 'only allow video' or whatever you like, just like the 'system:filetype' search predicate. Import Folders used to have this too, but they send those settings down to their File Import Options when they update this week.
Second, File Import Options now have the idea of being 'default' like Tag Import Options do. All your existing File Import Options will stay as they are, but any new ones will be in 'default' state, meaning at the time of import, your settings under options->importing will be used instead. This makes it easier to edit your File Import Options en masse, since there is only one place to go for most changes you ever want to make.
The manage subscriptions dialog now has a 'overwrite file import options' button too, if you do want to mass-set some specific File Import Options across your subs. You might like to just set them all to default this week--I think I will.
This 'default' concept is going to be applied to Note Import Options too. I am still thinking about how extensive the defaults system should be for File and Note Import Options. At the moment, File Import Options still just has the 'quiet' and 'loud' defaults in the options dialog, but I could expand things so you can set a default File Import Options for particular domains as you can for Tag Import Options. I'm thinking of combining them all into one tabbed edit dialog, so I may also extract the Presentation Options out of File Import Options, since those may have a different shape of 'defaults' than File Import Options most of the time. If you care about this stuff, let me know what you think.

thanks to a user's help, we are rolling out a Qt6 test build this week. we've been running Qt5 for a few years now. 6 is mostly a very large bugfix patch, and I am hopeful this update will relieve several legacy issues related to UI scale, colour support, draw flickering, and other unusual stuff. so far, it is working for me great. I'll be putting out joint 5 and 6 builds for 4-8 weeks, to iron out any big problems, and then I'll switch over to 6 releases exclusively. if you are an advanced user, please give it a go this or next week and let me know if you run into any traceback errors about deprecated method names or completely jank layout in the less used parts of the program
the actual changes you'll see are mostly style, just slightly different font spacing, things like that. if you have a system-baked Qt5 style that hydrus magically inherits, this will no longer work, you need to get a Qt6 version of the style (although I understand this is happening already for the popular styles, so you may already have them)
users on Windows 7 and similarly old OS versions are unable to run Qt6 programs, sorry!

the linux Qt6 build also goes up from ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04. let me know if you have any trouble, but it feels like it is time to update this too

file import options overhaul:
I wanted to do note parsing this week, but when I reviewed the whole job, there wasn't enough time to do it properly. so, in prep for a cleaner introduction of 'note import options' next week, I am overhauling how the other import options do some stuff
all file import options now support filetype filtering! it uses the same control as system:filetype or in import folders, but with some improved logic. on update, existing import folder filetype settings will be copied down to the file import options
file import options now work on a similar 'default' system as tag import options. existing file import options will stay as-is, but new ones will begin in a 'use the default settings at time of import' state. those defaults are editable under _options->importing_. for now I am not adding a 'use this file import options default for this web domain' system, but it might happen in future. let's see how this all shakes out first
the file import options button now has a right-click menu like the tag import options button

system:filetype now remembers meta filetypes better. if you select 'all video', it will now still select all video even if hydev adds support for a new video type in future. also if you select 'video + animations', it'll say that rather than listing out every possible specific-type
fixed an issue where loading a favourite search wasn't always setting 'include current/pending' values on the buttons correct
fixed up a status display in the gallery downloader and watcher pages--if you pause an importer while it is doing work, it now says 'pausing...' as its status until any current jobs are finished. it was giving empty text before, as if it were finished already
fixed some unusual behaviour with downloader highlighting where the first query pended to an empty page was secretly highlighted for the next session load, and fixed the 'subscription gap downloader' also doing this and not obeying the normal 'highlight new downloaders if nothing already highlighted' option
improved the error when the 'make sure this directory exists' function runs into a file with that pathname
fixed a rare selection position error, maybe Qt6 only, when clicking in the thumbnail grid as it is loading

as a side thing, I set up quick-launch environments for QtPy5, QtPy6, PySide2, and PySide6 in my IDE this week, so I can now test all these situations and jump back in time no problem in future
integrated a user's patch to bring us up to Qt6 compatibility and did a little more work to get it backwards compatible with older qtpy and Qt5
refactored the critical Qt boot setup and monkeypatching from QtPorting to a new QtInit module
migrated the hydrus code for keyboardModifiers, event-pos, and globalPos all to the Qt6 equivalents so the monkeypatching is always going to be on older versions looking forward
fiddled with QPoint and QPointF conversions a little so I _think_ Qt5 and Qt6 is always talking about the same type
updated build scripts and requirements.txts for the new situation

Note Import Options! I'm going to focus on it. I'll see if I can merge all the Import Options together, get the note merge tech we need working and tested, and then get some actual note parsing working in the downloader so we can play around with it.
