•Unbound (honestly the best imo really set the bar too damn high fr)

•Crown (this ones good if you're in to more typical rpg stuff like Fire Emblem or smth akin to Conquest, tho it's still in beta and you can only get the first "gym badge" it is a cool rom hack tho)

•Dark Worship (it's not fully translated in English but hey if you are or know Portuguese then you might like this one, it's dope ngl but also it's full of bugs so,, yeah hahah)

The World is Ours To Pick and Choose So

Cyrus Theron can’t really say he hated things, or loved too for that matter. He remembers when he first took Jupiter under his wing, Mars and Saturn too, all three of them would individually quiz him on what he hated or loved.

Jupiter Bellatrix would ask about entertainment, Mars Betelgeuse would ask about nourishment preferences, Saturn Rigel would ask about human behaviors. None of them would get the answer they wanted from the man who saved them, the man they would follow to the ends of the universe.

Even Charon Saiph would quiz him on his opinions, but his questions… were different.

“How do you feel about Sinnoh Champion, Cynthia Rutherford?”

“How do you feel about the three chosen children?”

“How do you feel about the universe?”

Cyrus could not give the scientist an answer he wanted. He simply crossed his arms and furrowed his eyebrows. All he could manage to answer was, ironically, “I have no answer.” Charon let out a small, ‘harumph’ before returning to his work under Cyrus’s watchful direction.

Charon would then tell him some weeks later, “For someone who’s devoted his life to becoming what is basically god, you having no opinion on those subjects is contradictory. I won’t question your integrity though.” For someone who’s so devoted to him, Charon had quite the mouth on him, Cyrus noted. But he didn’t say anything, half because Saturn already started chiding away at him for merely doubting Cyrus’s motivations.

In truth, Cyrus did have at least one answer.

According to Sinnoh mythos, when Arceus was creating the world, its ultimate gift, its ultimate miracle, was the universe itself. What enables life for humans, and life for Pokemon, the grass they stand on, and the water they drink, the joy they laugh, and the grief they cry. Merely being alive in this beautiful universe was Arceus’s ultimate gift to you as an individual.

Yet Cyrus stands in front of Jubilife City and watches as parade floats march down the city and music blares and is sung with people’s full hearts out, thanking Arceus for even letting them be alive. But what has Arceus done for them? He can feel his heart freezing as the hollow delight they celebrate happens before his eyes.

He could only think of his parents, how rejected and hollowed he felt when he saw their looks of disdain. It was just as he saw Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn all in times of need, so vulnerable, where no one but he was willing to give them ground to stand on, save them. What kind of miracle gives people something that makes them vulnerable, causing everyone so much strife? Miracles are supposed to be perfect, so why are people struggling?

How can he feel joy in a so-called, incomplete miracle, that gives them emotions and attachments, a thing that distorts the world in every which way?

But it could be fixed, he could make it into something perfect, something worth celebrating. He just had to remove emotion from the world.

For now though, the universe was an empty miracle with no meaning. That was a definitive fact Cyrus knew for sure.

In truth, Cyrus never met the chosen children once. He couldn’t really make an assessment of the three with only stories to go off of. Murals that rant and rave about how these children were unstoppable in the face of the end of the world, and will come back years later to save the world again and protect it eternally after. More miracles that are blessings to the world. He figured they were something to watch for, dangers that will step in his path every which way to prevent his plans to become a god.

However, this changed when he first made eye contact with knowledge’s tribute in Solaceon Ruins. A young boy writing down the unknown alphabet, researching and recording what knowledge he could extract from the world like the curious child he should be. He wondered if he knew his role in the world. He wondered what his perception of knowledge was, was it simply knowing? Or did it go further than that? Surely Uxie’s champion must know, and so he interviewed and battled him.

He disappointed him greatly though, as when he asked him questions about knowledge, the boy could only answer encyclopedic ideas. All he had was simple observations of the world with a lack of understanding. He could see from the way he interacted with the Unknown already, how he watched at a distance. All he was, was a smart kid who was coincidentally the professor’s aide. He may be smart, but how far will simple knowledge take him in life? How could he defend this world when he struggled to beat such a weak team?

He questioned what made him embody knowledge in the first place. A young boy who was only smart for a kid, not knowing anything someone with ties to the world should know. Surely even he was smarter than him, Saturn was for a fact.

So he walks away, the Unknown clearing a path for him in what he assumed was fear, although perhaps it was something else. He doesn’t turn back when the boy yells for him to wait, not giving the boy a chance to ask his questions. It doesn’t interest him that much anymore.

His encounter with willpower’s tribute in Celestic Ruins wasn’t anything to write home about either. The girl’s natural blue hair, and tired, dreary eyes, she was a one-for-one image of the girl in the ruins behind him. He wondered if she knew, but knowing or not, he decided to test her worth as Azelf’s champion both in battle and an interview.

However, she disappointed him greatly as she struggled against a team that wasn’t even at its full power. Her Prinplup, just a few levels shy of even evolving, seemed to want to collapse just as much as Murkrow wanted to, before it succumbed to the water pokemon. But if he wasn’t at his full power, how could she protect the world? Were the other children just as weak as her?

He questioned what made her embody willpower in the first place. He could tell from her answers that she was a simple girl who follows what the adults want of her, with no real wants of her own or desire to pursue things for herself. He could hear in her answers, she was someone who was once just like him, someone who was once just like Jupiter.

So he walks off, allowing the girl to see her prophecy for herself. He doesn’t stay to see her reaction, no matter how curious it may make him. Although, with dreary eyes like hers, it probably wouldn’t be any interesting.

He finally encountered his most detested champion to the world, the thing that distorts everything in this world, the emotion’s tribute. An energetic, rash boy who runs around with little attention to his surroundings. In fact, their encounter started when the blonde boy knocked into him. Of course a kid wouldn’t be enough to knock him over, but it still was mighty rude. The boy’s yelling about fines and other trivial things gave Cyrus enough time to get a good look, recognizing him as the blonde on the wall. So he quickly shifted the conversation, challenging the boy to a battle and questioning his ideas.

But he, just like his two friends, disappointed him. Although maybe he shouldn’t have expected anything of emotion given how much it ruined this world. His rash ignorance and yelling, it was almost as though there wasn’t anything there but energy. And that energy would turn into annoyance in the coming conversation, especially after his lost battle. He couldn’t do a lot to a less powerful team, and such an explosive boy had very little to say about emotions.

He questioned why Mespirit thought he embodied emotion in the first place. He clearly didn’t have consideration for others, and was so reckless and explosive that Cyrus thought he was the antithesis to what everyone should seek with emotion. Someone without control, someone unlike Mars.

So he walks away with his assessment on the final child, not turning an eye to the boy yelling at him to come back and pay up his fine for bumping into him. He had no interest in what else he had to say, he’s already seen enough.

Perhaps he shouldn’t be surprised anymore when the world legends lie about miracles, these three children clearly weren’t. They were simply, unremarkable children. He couldn’t wrap his head around how the lake guardians could prefer them over people like his admins. These weren’t worth being celebrated, just as the universe wasn’t worth being celebrated.

But while he’d fix them in his new universe too, he needs a child to join him.

Perhaps he could get emotion, given its easily exploitable nature, to join his efforts. How ironic would it be to see him turning these so-called perfect miracles against each other to ruin each other. Cyrus decides that, truly, he thinks these don’t mean anything.

They’re nothing but empty, only miracles in name.

Cyrus knew Cynthia Rutherford since they were in college together. She always seemed to glow, no matter what, even in the dark, even in the rain. She topped all her classes, and won every battle. Rumors were always passed around about who she really was, some said she was just a prodigy, others tossed around the rumor she was Arceus’s favorite. The called her a living miracle.

Of course, the latter seemed like a stretch to Cyrus. But they didn’t talk outside of some “sorry”s or “excuse me”s. So years after college, and years after Cynthia was crowned champion of the Sinnoh region, he was confused when she shared her secret with him.

Cynthia was chosen by Arceus, it was watching down on her, and she sees visions of the end of the world caused by him. She says she wants to save the world, but more importantly, she wants to save him. By then Cyrus was already well on his way to accomplishing his goals, so he wondered why she “wants to save him.”

It’s peculiar of the resolute woman he heard of, you would think she should kill someone where they stand if it means destroying life as they speak in her eyes. But she didn’t do that. Instead she declared her goal, and walked off. It ticked him off, but he wouldn’t let it get to him, stop him. He’ll let their war be one-sided.

Yet every time she could manage, she tried to appeal to his goals, only the two battling when she decided she needed to appeal a different way and got desperate. Of course she pummeled him, she was the world champion, but everytime she let him go.

How could she? Arceus clearly wouldn’t be showing her those images if it didn’t want her to strike him down where she stood. Yet she didn’t do anything. It irritated him. If she was so obsessed, why didn’t she just order Garchomp to just end it already? Was she looking down at him?

Truly a waste of power, Arceus was a fool. He’ll show it what power is like, what a true miracle is like. He didn’t need its power to become like a god, he’ll become one all on his own.

An empty miracle is meaningless after all, which is just what Cynthia’s blessing was.

Now as he watches the world distort and destroy itself, the chosen children screaming for their friend lying in a pool of red, and Arceus’s tribute standing with a horrified mouth agape, Cyrus questions why his team had concerns about his plan succeeding. The world that was supposed to be perfect, undeniable, with four tributes to stop him every which way, was bested in just one single bullet into one that was so easily manipulated.

Truly, this world, these children, and Arceus’s blessings were nothing but empty miracles.

And here, he watches them suffocate in its own blood.

Progress Update 10/30

Hello all! I'm back with some exciting news. The demo draft is complete! I technically have a full, working demo as of this very moment!! I'm so pumped that I'm so ahead of schedule. This was supposed to be completed by 12/31. I will not be readjusting my schedule, as I don't want to put pressure on myself and ruin the inspiration I've got going, but I'll tell you my goals:

Second draft by 11/30.

This means polishing, fleshing out, and basic programming for the demo script. I'll be adding backgrounds and sprite cues, as well as a few small animations as I visualize how I want the final game to go. I've already begun, and have 5/25 scenes completed. I plan on going steady at 1 scene a day and seeing where that gets me.

All sprite expressions by 12/5

I have basic expressions for the sprites, but I want to create a full spread by this date. And in case you didn't know... they blink! It's a subtle thing but I think it adds a lot to the game.

So, here's what I've been working on!

The video below shows the sprite and font animation I've added. Each character has their own speaking speed, and the font animation reflects this. I've also added a highlight effect to show who's talking.

King Aalam Scene Teaser

Since I've done the other two LIs, here is a teaser of one of Aalam's scenes! I have gone with a male Terra. This one is shorter to avoid spoilers!

"As if on cue, there's a knock at the door, and then Councilmember Saiph walks in. He has his doctor's bag with him."

co1 "My King, what's happened? Are you all right?"

"I redirect my attention to the doctor, grateful for the distraction."

t "I'm fine, I'm fine. I'm sure any wounds are superficial."

"He beckons me over to one of the armchairs, and I take a seat. He sits next to me and begins to look over my arms, tsking at what he sees."

co1 "Any pain?"

t "Just a bit of stinging..."

co1 "You're probably in shock."

"He pulls out a tray and some tweezers, beginning to remove the larger visible shards of glass."

"King Aalam comes over and stands behind the couch, watching the doctor work. His looming presence makes me uncomfortable. I clear my throat, looking up at him, then back to my arm."

t "I am not shy to say that I dislike the idea of marriage."

"Councilmember Saiph looks between us briefly, but he is polite enough not to join the conversation."

a "What is it you object to?"

t "Ow!"

co1 "Remain still, [title]."

"I wince grimacing at the size of the glass sliver he drops into the tray."

t "I...do not wish to leave my kingdom. My people need me here."

a "You could better serve them from Andromeda."

"When I look up to King Aalam, his expression is completely serious."

t "And how is that?"

a "By merging our two kingdoms, breaking down borders, they will have more resources, more business, more jobs. The Andromeda schools are the best on the continent."

t "A matter of opinion."

"He waves a hand, as if my statement was only opinion as well."

a "It will broaden their opportunities. And they will be protected."

t "Protected? Are you of the same mind of my advisor, that the southern kingdoms are out for blood?"

a "Your advisor is wise. Your father received a missive from Canis several months ago that gave me cause for concern. It was what prompted him to reach out about a potential arrangement. It stated that they had reason to believe their lost prince was in Laute."

"My eyebrows shoot up to my bangs."

t "The lost—ow! Councilmember, if you could affect a more delicate touch, that would be greatly appreciated."

co1 "Apologies..."

"Councilmember Saiph carefully rolls up my sleeve and inspects my arm. He gets a bottle of alcohol from his bag and a cloth, beginning to disinfect the shallow cuts and scrapes."

t "As I was saying. Why do they suddenly know of his whereabouts? I thought he was...well, lost."

a "That is a question I would like to know the answer to as well. They did not give it, but did express hostility towards your father, as they believe him to be harboring him. He is the sole heir of Canis, and Queen Rin will not allow him to live after what happened."

t "Ridiculous."

a "I suspect they are looking for excuses."

t "For war?"

a "Precisely. Andromeda is not strong enough to take on Canis, which means that Laute certainly is not. Together though, we stand a chance. It is past due for me to find a second. This seemed to catch two stars with one wish."

co1 "All right [title], you must change out of this shirt."

t "Okay. There should be something in my wardrobe in here."

"He nods and puts away his supplies, rising with a bow."

co1 "If you'll excuse me, I am going to get back to sleep."

"The guards open the doors for him."

t "...The night is growing late...perhaps we should continue this conversation in the morning."

"Just thinking about this is giving me a headache. The lost prince, in Laute? My father harboring him? What could have possibly given that impression?"

"I start towards the bedroom saved for me."

a "Wait, King Terra."

"I turn to face the King, hoping whatever it is will be brief."

a "I have met many other Royals, but none of them suited me as you do."

"I don't respond, unsure how to."

a "I will admit what first caught my interest was your potential for spellcrafting."

"This startles me into speech."

t "What? What are you talking about?"

a "I could sense it immediately. All Royals have it, of course, but it is particularly strong with you."

t "No, I can't..."

a "You can. I will teach you. Together, we could be a wall that Canis would have no hope of penetrating."

"I stare at him in silent shock."

t "I-I..."

"I shake my head, hurrying quickly to the bedroom. It's so difficult to believe. Me? Spellcrafting? I want to think he's wrong, but if he's capable of freezing someone solid, who's to say he can't sense others who can spellcraft...?"

Gasp! Terra can spellcraft? Who would have thought!

I will be using temporary backgrounds for most of the demo, due to cost constraints.

Now that the demo script is ready, work can begin on a big part of the game: CGs! I plan on having at least 3 CGs for the demo due to cost constraints, but I will certainly try to do more if possible. I'm thinking at the least 1 CG per love interest.

The UI is coming along! I have finished the character create screen, and have tweaked the design of the prefs screen.

The two fonts available will be Cantarell and OpenDyslexic, for accessibility purposes. I'm not sure if I love Cantarell for the official font just yet, but we'll see.

OMG YEAH! I ended up rambling a little so I'm putting it under a cut but tysmmm for the ask<3

🌙 - What’s their sleep schedule like?

OK! Like I said for Bella she's very early to bed early to rise but as for the others:

Polaris: She sleeps on the later side, and might sleep past breakfast, but she wakes up before noon at least. But please have breakfast anyway.

Saiph: sleeps early, wakes up early. Unsurprisingly the fire guy is a morning person. But unlike Bella he'll have the occasional "stay up until 3AM" night and won't even adjust when he wakes up

Al: He sleeps at like 5AM. You'll see him at noon. He might adjust this while on mission though. Unsurprisingly the shadow guy is a night owl

Mira: Goes to sleep early but she'll wake up on the later side with Polaris. Eepest girl in the world

🗺️ - What languages do they speak?

First off all the kids raised by Venus still know ASL on top of English, Saiph and Felis probably took it as their secondary language class in highschool for an easy A so that's it. Mira on the other hand would've taken Mandarin for herself on top of that.

Polaris probably only really speaks English, she would've still been raised by Thuban as a young kid so I'm not sure how much Inuktut she'd retained from her parents? Also she likely didn't do well in any language classes in school (dyslexia 😔), but I still think learning to speak in more languages is something she wants to do esp with her cartography interest overlapping w learning about the world.

Al speaks English and Japanese, though he's probably weaker in the latter, maybe speaking really formally? He'd never really committed to learning any specific language in highschool either, just no real motivation. I think he'd know some words or phrases in Cook Islands Maori from his mom but not enough to hold a conversation (might also highly depend on whether or not she's alive in this au idk 💀)

Bella speaks English and probably some French. Similar situation to Al, where she doesn't really speak much to the parent who knows it. Except she actually did commit to taking more classes for it in highschool so she can hold a conversation!

Bernard speaks English, and probably also picked up trace amounts of French from Vesta, he'd probably also take up Arabic for himself and still take Spanish in school, on top of classes for German and Latin. Mira thinks he used to be in one of her Mandarin classes too. Classic overachiever. Probably also speaks Klingon too if we're being honest.

Juno knows English and is actively studying Latin, maybe planning to take up Ancient Greek, Sanskrit, or Old Norse. Old languages pretty much.

Lacerta speaks English and Spanish, probably also took the latter in highschool despite already being fluid. Hilarious if she also speaks Klingon but keeps it a secret to protect her image.

And what's important to remember about Regulus is that, while he's annoying, all the things he thinks about himself are accurate. He IS that smart. He'd probably speak a bit of any language mentioned here and then some. (Except Klingon, he doesn't know what that is) But he's probably the most fluid in English, Farsi, and Latin.

Anyway if you noticed me saying probably and maybe a lot it's because the au still has a lot of concepts about it that are up in the air for rn so I'm not sticking to everything 100% concretely but this is what I think so far at least 👍 yay

Having OSDD can mean some strange things happen sometimes and currently Nate, the owner of this blog is not fronting so I, Gabe, another part, am currently fronting. Plus, Nate hasn't watched, read or played much, hart tends to front on walks in nature or when crafting. So here's all of our choices below

Death from Discworld

Terry Pratchett's Death is just an amazing character, he is caring even though he isn't supposed to be, he's hilarious without intending to be and Terry Pratchett just wrote him in the best way. There's so much to love about Discworld but to me it's made perfect by Death.

Samwise from Lord of the Rings

Sam is so warm hearted and caring, but he's not afraid to express his feelings and thoughts, even when they may cause a divide. He's honestly a role model and 'goal' of the host part of the system.

Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation

We were diagnosed as autistic at a very young age and were told all the stereotypes of autism were us. Our parents mourned our lack of empathy and bizarre habits constantly. Saiph even remembers being called 'soul less'. However, the host at the time, Saiph, loved sci-fi and found a refuge in re-aired episodes of Star Trek TNG. Data healed us in being all the things he wasn't meant to be according to his construction but still straddling the world of human and non-human. Data is very important to us as a character. Yes, its true our empathy isn't really there and some of our habits are strange, but we still have compassion for others and we don't hurt anyone being our weird selves.

Yato from Noragami

I admit we're a bit behind with the manga so no spoilers for anything thanks! But with the manga and anime that we have watched and read I can say we really love Yato's cheeky-bordering-on-idiotic charm and wit. Noragami was also just a really important show for the host while they were studying at college (UK 16-18 college) and got very depressed. Noragami helped out a lot in keeping the host going.

Honourable Mention: Yukine

Merlin from Merlin

From about age 5, I was an Arthurian legend nerd so Saiph adored Merlin when it came out, watching every single episode as it aired. We didn't use social media until we were 18 but if we had, Saiph would have had a merlin themed tumblr blog for sure. Saiph loves Merlin's humour, dry wit, bluntness and fun he has with his destiny.

Hercule Poirot from Poirot

If Poirot was real I would love to be his friend so badly. Sure this might mean I get involved in several murder cases and he would tut at my untidiness but we could be very autistic together and enjoy good food together too. He's clever, particular in his style and likes but most of all very caring.

Honourable Mention: Miss Lemon

Vlad from Young Dracula

So first of all this actor before we even full realised we were trans gave us trans guy vibes and made us feel safe. As far as I know, no, the actor is not trans but the vibes are there (the first series the actor was like eleven). But then oh my gosh the story of being forced to be something you don't want to be and the way Vlad desperately tries to stick to his morals throughout the series is so compelling. Vlad's constant and seemingly futile but unwavering fight, grapple against the darkness inside him was the great drama of my childhood/teenhood.

Guillermo from What We Do In The Shadows

I can't seem to get the newest series here in the UK so no spoilers thanks! But yes, Guillermo is such a sweetheart. He knows what he wants, he works for it, he even asks for it, its the dickhead vampires in his life that mean he can't get his wish. Also, he's such a cool fighter while being gentle and kind. Love him. You won't have him, Nandor? I'll have him!

Thomas from Ghosts

Truth is I am an extremely melodramatic person who has a problem with using long words that I'm not entirely sure the meaning of. That is a universal truth with all the system parts. Also Thomas is silly and very funny. His death is so sad and unnecessary too, it breaks my heart that events could work towards that end. I love a lot of the Ghosts' characters really but I had to choose one so Thomas is it!

Honourable Mentions: Captain, Kitty, Robin, Mary, Humphrey and Pat

Thomas from Downton Abbey

(I did not intend to put both Thomases in a row but I didn't plan properly) So we all agree to ignore the second film, right? It butchers everyone. Right? Good. Eagle-eyed people might spot that Nate sort of lifted Neely's (one of our favourite DnD characters) surname 'Osbarrow' from Thomas Barrow. That is how much we love this guy. Thomas starts as a villain, that you love to see act out his plans. He's compelling just as that. But then you see him soften and a great protector of others, using his bile and poison to spit in the right direction as it were and you love him. But with the years of being horrible and cruel for cruel sake, no one will take his kindness for kindness, looking for the hidden agenda. It is genuinely heartbreaking to Saiph and the host who are the main fans of this show. A great study in how to do character arcs in my opinion too.
