message from izurusstuff: hi guys!! i'm doing something i've never done before-- i'm writing a full-on fanfic novel. also, you may be looking at the tags and thinking to yourself, "wait, izurusstuff joined the hunger games fandom???" and the answer is yes. yes i did. the ballad of songbirds and snakes has been in my head 24/7 recently. i've been playing around with character.ai and reading fanfics on here, but its not enough for me,, i need a novel. a novel i can imagine from my silly ol' fingers. i want to test the waters here to see how many people would be interested so i can decide how much i want to put into this. this'll be my introductory post and i'll be releasing chapter 1 super duper soon!! wattpad is where i'll be posting updates first (inspired by my best friend, i love u nemi <33) and then i'll be formatting them here :)))

Y/n is the District 12 female tribute for the 10th Annual Hunger Games, where everything is changing... The Capitol is introducing mentors, sponsors, and gamemakers this year. Things are changing-- and it's not necessarily for the better.

Y/n gets thrown into The Hunger Games purely because of her former best friend. However, y/n's ex boyfriend gets thrown in too... and audiences are loving the drama that's erupting. Back in the Capitol, y/n's mentor is disgusted with the fact he got a tribute from the poorest district in Panem... but y/n slowly wins him over.

ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ KALE HAS THE DEVIL ON HER SIDE SINCE SHE was in sixth grade. Well not really Lucifer, more like the devil in disguise. That's what everyone called the girl that saved Kale. The devil. Lucifer. Fallen Angel. Lucifer was the first of the many nicknames that was banned from being crowned to Caulifla. So, instead everyone just called her Luci. From Kale's first day of being the new kid at the junior high she was warned about the so called devil. Kale pictured Luci as some big maybe fat, scary kid who bullied everyone.

But no. It was just some girl who if you gossiped a little too loudly about or even mentioned her in your conversation, she would be up in your face in a heartbeat. If there was a food fight, chances were she started it. If a teacher was calling her names or being plain rude to someone in class, Caulifla would yell at them, telling them to do a better job.

At first Kale feared Caulifla from all the stories she's heard.

Kale was such a shy girl, always sitting alone at lunch and never bothering to talk to anyone. No one really did since she was hard to remember. Then again, Kale didn't really interact with anyone for them to even want to sit with her or hang out with her.

Then, one day he came along like one of those boys in those sweet young love stories. He had such cute short hair with one big strand of it falling forward to one side of his face as he made his way over to a table Kale had claimed as her own. He had a small smile on his face as his cheeks were turning pink. Everyone knew him as the quiet kid, not really talking to anyone unless he had means to.

" . . . H-Hi, I'm Cabba. You're Kale, right?" He greets her as he holds his lunch box in one hand.

Kale was mesmerized by the fact that someone knew her name and decided to come up to her. She eases a small smile on those lips of hers as she nods. "Yes, nice to meet you Cabba."

Cabba points at the bench and then asks, "Is this seat taken?"

"No, no. Not at all."

Every day after that Cabba just sat with her and enjoyed his lunch with her. Every day was just the same, only their conversations were different. Sometimes the subject of their conversation would be random. Kale didn't mind since she had at least someone to talk to, but every now and then she would find herself missing the quiet countryside.

Before her grandfather chose to retire, Kale lived in the nature smelling forestry in a cottage that seemed so small on the outside. Her father Beets mentioned how he grew up on a farm with his parents and grandparents. It wasn't until he moved to the city that he also grew to like city life as well, thanks to Kale's mother Tights. For a good chunk of their first daughter Erasa's childhood they lived in the city before Tights finally accepted a temporary choice of moving to the countryside—which then became permanent because Tights grew to love the countryside.

Holidays consisted of going back to the city to spend some time with Kale's grandparents and her wild but fun loving aunt Bulma. Every chance Bulma got, she would take out Erasa and Kale, show them the joys of the city.

Erasa loved the city, Kale loved the countryside.

Even now when Kale really thought about it, she only loved the city because of her friends. If she wasn't close to anyone she would've decided to move to the countryside after she graduated high school—or maybe after college if she chose that route.

Kale did her best to avoid Caulifla at first, but it wasn't until a girl who was much bigger than her that started bullying her did she realize that Caulifla wasn't as bad as a person as everyone said she was. Caulifla had declared from that day forward (after beating up the girl) that anyone who laid a finger on Kale who be pummeled to a pulp. She invited Caulifla every other break to come with her and Cabba to the farm to hang out and enjoy what nature had to offer. Caulifla's parents almost always said yes, minus summers. Summers were reserved for Vegeta and his family.

It was now winter break as this was the first time Kale's parents didn't accompany them. Kale was surprised they allowed Cabba to tag along without his parents.

These two were laying on the bed, cuddling with each other in the bed. They began dating sophomore year of high school, and have gone out to date this long. They were Cabba and Kale, so no one was surprised because these two have always been inseparable.

"Do you think Caulifla's going to get the job as Chi-Chi's nanny?" Cabba nudges her gently with his leg up her bare leg. She was only in black short-shorts and an oversized red shirt.

"Are you seriously doubting one of our best friends?" Kale grins up at him as she playfully pinches one of his cheeks.

"Nope," Cabba replies, popping the 'p'. "But think about it, there's like, a ton of other candidates so Chi-Chi choosing Caulifla would be like a miracle."

Kale moves herself on top of Cabba as one limb rests between Cabba's legs, causing him to wince a bit. He reddens as he could feel her breasts press up against his chest.

"K-Kale?"

She simply grins down at him, "So are we going to that party this week?"

"I kind of forgot that party was this week, are you sure you want to make the drive back there and then come back here?" Cabba asks.

Kale nods. "What's the harm in going to one party? Maybe we can convince Caulifla to stay here with us for the next week until we have to leave for school."

"Do you think she's even going to want to come with us? She's been obsessing over Vegeta again and knowing her she's going to have her tail wrapped around him." Cabba replies.

"Oh yeah," Kale nodded. "Well, let's just go to the party and then we dip. We can bring some of my sister's weed to the party then." She grins as Cabba chuckles, rubbing her back.

"Who would've known Kale of all people would've loved weed?" Cabba didn't even believe those words that were coming out of his mouth.

"My sister." Kale reminds him. "But not a word to my parents about the party you hear? Tights already told them that we're going to spend the whole day hiking that day."

Cabba simply nods, bringing her in for a kiss as they stay like this for a few more moments.

"charles put you on blast huh?" lando's laugh caught addi's attention.

life with addi feels like a constant marry-go-round. pierre is great, he's kind, she likes being around him. but the thought of being with him... officially. she can't. as much as she tells everyone she doesn't care or that she's fine, seeing lando with someone else is affecting her. she's sure they all see it. maybe not lando, maybe. she doesn't want to hurt anyone.

she let out a small chuckle as well, "yeah" she sighed before smiling at him. she had been at daniel's hotel suite along with some other drivers for a hangout. she had left to go to the kitchen to grab one of the smoothie drinks she had put in there a while ago. "when did you get here?" she asked him, offering him a smoothie. he grabbed it, muttering out some gratitude and opening it.

"just now, i actually came to get a coke but i guess smoothie's are healthier" he smiled after taking a sip. she laughed and nodded. she was going to move past him to join the group but yet another one of his questions stopped her in her tracks, "what's it like with pierre?"

"he's sweet, just kinda going slow for now." she shrugged, avoiding eye contact.

"how come?"

she looked at him, his face was formed into a confused and almost... hurt expression. why was he hurt? he doesn't have that right. "where's luisa?"

lando said nothing, causing addi to nod and walk passed him and join back to the group. charles and arthur showed up after a few minutes, which was great, it gave arthur and addi the opportunity to hang out again. she talked to arthur a little bit since the pierre drama, he said he was hurt but he shouldn't be because they already talked about moving on.

the night went on, alcohol came out, things got...hectic... weird.

"hey, you should go." daniel found the girl in the kitchen pouring more drinks. her mind was fogged and buzzed, the kitchen reminded her of the scene that unfolded only hours before with the other mclaren driver. she's dizzy, she thought everyone was having fun, so why does she have to leave? "arthur will walk you to your hotel room, if you're missing something i'll bring it to you in the morning" he didn’t want her to go, he felt bad pushing her out, but he couldn’t let her be in the middle of it all.

she didn't have time to ask questions, arthur walked over with her phone and her bag while daniel reached in the fridge and handed her the last smoothie and a water bottle. "what's going on?" she asked arthur, confused as to why suddenly there was suddenly yelling on the other side of the room. she was to faded to understand what was going on, and before she could even comprehend anyone's face, she was pushed out of the suite.

"i'll tell you tomorrow"

"new york for christmas?" max tilted his head at the younger driver, "you're not staying in monaco for the holidays?"

addi shook her head no as she stretched her body out on her drivers room floor, "no, charles and his family are following us there. claire will be miserable if she has to sit on a plane for hours while being four months pregnant. plus my parents are staying in monaco for christmas."

max felt sympathy for addi, though he's not one to show many other emotions than anger and happiness, or cockiness if you want to go that route, he understands what it's like to have a broken hope and parental issues. their experiences and familial situations are different, but they're still too similar to not to relate to. "i'm sorry you have to avoid them."

she looks up at her teammate with a pang in her chest. "it's okay... could be worse." she shrugged it off, not wanting to get all emotional before qualifying starts.

"lando revealed his relationship with luisa."

"good for lando." she got up with the help of max's hand. max is trying his best to understand the current dynamic between his teammate and friend. things are awkward, even when they're laughing together it's not the same. she's gotten so close with pierre that it seems like more than just a friendship.

"are you and pierre seeing each other?"

"since when do you care about this stuff, max?" she scoffed out a laugh and looked at the older with curiosity and a little bit of annoyance.

"i just care about you."

addi has never heard these words come from her teammate, at least not towards her. sure they were a great team, great friends, she considers max one of her closest friends lately. but she never thought she would hear that from max. "we're.. complicated right now." she chuckled "why are you getting all sentimental, maxie?" she tried lightening up the air a little, but max's next words would only somber the mood even more

"when you crashed... i was really worried. and then checo took your seat for a while, and i don't know. it didn't feel right." he spoke with serenity

"what do you mean?"

"i pushed for further investigation on your car."

deep talks with max are very rare, but she's grown to love them and he's grown to get used to them.

"Are you going to tell Arthur?" Charles speaks softly, leaning his head towards his brother who was only a few feet away. Addi didn't say much to him, just for him to stay put before dragging his older brother away.

"No, I have no reason to. plus, I don't know what Pierre is gonna say. I don't want anyone to get the wrong-" She was cut off by a gentleman coming up to them, asking for a picture for his daughter.

"Excuse me, my daughter is a big fan, could she get pictures with you guys?" The youngest driver put on a smile, trying to comfort the daughter to relax. she understands that meeting someone you look up to could be intimidating. Hell, she races against Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton, two of her idols. The pair says yes, motioning the shy girl to walk over. She takes individual pictures with them each, just simple selfies before Arthur makes his way over.

She gets pictures with everyone before thanking them and leaving again. "So, what are you two talking about?"

Charles looks over down at the girl, waiting for her to respond. "I need dropped off at the hotel."

"Why? Is everything okay?" Arthur asks worried, his eyebrows pulling together in confusion.

"Yeah, I just..." She looks up at Charles, hoping he would help her out, but he looked back at her with raised eyebrows. "Pierre and I need to talk about something." The younger brother only looks more confused, not understand why the frenchman was suddenly being brought up. She could practically read his thoughts, "I'll explain later, Artie"

Charles drives them all back to the hotel, waving at anyone that notices them. She felt a sense of nervousness settle in once they reach the lobby of the hotel, the two brothers were going to go up to their suites, keeping hold of the girls bags while she was busy, but that meant they had to practically drop her off at Pierre's door.

"Okay," She sighed to herself, "Thanks for the shopping trip!" She tried smiling cheerfully, earning smiles back before Charles gives her an air kiss on either side of her face. "Let me know how it goes," he pats her head before leaving to his suite.

"Are you going to let me know how it goes?" Arthur asked. Addi could hear shuffling on the other side of the door. She reached up and giving him the same french style kisses on his cheeks, "We will see how it goes." She smiled at him as the door opened and revealed Pierre.

Arthur nodded before greeting Pierre and leaving. She turned to face the man at the door, looking at him before being gestured in. They greet each other before sitting on the couch in the suite. "So?" She asked, not in the mood for awkward small talk when they've been doing fine all season long together.

"I didn't know you felt that way for me back then." He jumped in head first, looking straight into her eyes, "I wouldn't have done that if I knew." She's almost at disbelief of words.

"You kissed me, flirted with me for week, and you had no clue I had any feelings?"

"I didn't think it was that big of a deal, you told me you had kissed before and we were drinking." Pierre defended himself quickly, but realizing what she had meant as soon as that statement left his mouth. "You meant Charles..."

"Yeah, my first kiss with Charles when I was 4."

"That doesn't change the fact that I didn't know."

[2019 - celebration party for addi]

Addi had just signed with Red Bull for the next season of Formula 1, this was huge. Everyone had planned a big surprise party for her to celebrate her big news. People she hadn't seen in a few years were there, including Pierre.

Her relationship with Pierre was nothing special, she had her crush on him when they were younger, but at that point Pierre could barely remember her name. She just saw him racing with Charles and her own brothers back then and thought he was cute. It wasn't until she was around 17 when her name started making waves in the motorsport world again, which is how she got to sign with Red Bull to begin with. Now she's about to be 19 years old, and already signed with one of the biggest Formula 1 teams.

"Pierre is here," Claire wiggled her eyebrows teasingly at her boyfriends little sister. "Really? I haven't seen him in ages, can't believe he could come and Arthur couldn't." She commented and snuck a swig of alcohol from the older, oh how she wished this party was being thrown in europe.

"I guess he had some time during the break so Charles invited him." Claire searched for the 'frenchie', she assumed it would be easy given his height compared to Addi's family and friends, but he must be sitting. "Wait... aren't you taking his seat?"

The younger gasped at the realization, Pierre had just ended his contract with Red Bull before she signed with them, but she must have been too excited to remember. "Fuck, you're right." She giggled out of shock and partial embarrassment, Claire laughing with her just before Charles comes over.

"You invited Pierre here? To a party celebrating the girl who's taking his seat?" The youngest girl slapped her friend shoulder. The Ferrari driver only laughed, "He left, they didn't boot him."

"Why'd you invite him exactly? They haven't spoken to each other... ever..."

"They have, Pierre just sucked at remembering names back then," Charles joked before looking down at Addi again, "I thought it'd be nice to invite someone else that you know on the grid, that way you have people to talk to."

Addi was never a social butterfly per sé, so he was genuinely trying to do her a favor. She appreciated it, but having the fact that she was already an anxious mess around so many people, she wasn't exactly sure it was a good idea. But it's not like she had a say in it now, especially with him walking over.

"Hey, Addilyn, I hope you remember me," He chuckled and shook her hand. "I'm Pierre."

From then on the two of them were stuck at the hip for the rest of the night. From Pierre sneaking her drinks behind her parents back, to having to sneak her away to the bathroom so she can throw up in the toilet. "Yeah, I should've told Claire not to give you anymore." He chuckled, holding her hair back as she blew chunks into the toilet bowl.

Claire and Charles rushed in holding towels, her toothbrush from her own bathroom, and some water and food. "I thought you said she's had alcohol before." Pierre glared at his best friend who shrugged and watched as Addi sat straight up against the bathtub again.

"She has, but really only a couple mimosas and margaritas." Claire intervened and handed the young girl a towel and water. She took the glass of water, swishing and gurgling it around before spitting it back in the toilet and wiping her mouth off. "Go back out, my moms gonna be looking for us." She stated trying to push the three of them out.

"I don't think you should get up." Pierre chuckled but Addi never listens, she tried lifting herself up, using him to help balance her, but she only fell back down again, luckily he stopped her from getting hurt.

It's a fun story to tell, or at least it was. From that point on, Pierre and Addi met up with each other whenever they could, they called and texted all the time, She even went out to France during a long break to visit him.

That night when she snuck out of her hotel room just to meet up with them was when it happened. They had been lounging around, drinking lightly, enough to where they couldn't drive, but not enough for them to be going crazy. A good bit of tipsy. Somehow, the conversations flowed from hobbies to relationships.

"You've never been in a relationship?" He would've guessed differently from the way she spoke about relationships and romance, maybe she was just a hopeless romantic.

"Nope," She shook her head and took a drink from her wine glass. She was smirking at him, his hand on her knee as they sat across from each other on his expensive couch.

"I find that hard to believe." He stated

"Calling me a whore, Gasly?" She teased, laughing when she saw the horror on his face. "Never. I would never." He declared immediately, she knew that already though.

"I'm just saying, I think you're too good of a person to be single for this long."

"Yeah, well surprisingly, a girl in motorsports seems to be a turn off for most men." She raised her eyebrows and sighed. She felt his thumb make small rubbing motions on her knee, comforting her. "What pussies." He stated in english, his accent makes her laugh out, making him smile.

"I think women in motorsports is amazing, we need more of that." He stated, "You're very talented at what you do."

His voice was suddenly soft, he was looking into her eyes and his fingers were tapping and rubbing gently on her lower thigh. She could feel her heart beating. "It's funny, I swore you hated me when we were younger." She laughed, her voice just above a whisper.

"No, I honestly just didn't care to know anyone who wasn't my competition back then. I was a selfish kid." He shrugged, smiling at her.

Then there's just silence. It's not heavy or awkward, it's peaceful actually. Just their breathing and the sound of whatever music had been playing when she arrived. She wasn't really sure when it started, but she noticed him inching closer and closer. His hand moving slowly up her thigh, waiting for further permission. Then he kissed her.

[2020 - back to present]

"The kiss wasn't a mistake." He confirmed, but it made her wonder, "Our kiss? Or are you referring to the other girl?"

He was frustrated, he tried not to show it, but he was. She wasn't sure if it was towards himself or her though, which opened another curiosity drawer in her brain. "Our kiss, it wasn't a mistake."

"And your kiss with Bella?"

"... That wasn't a mistake either."

She scoffed, "Unbelievable." She lifted her elbow up on the arm of the couch, looking in the opposite direction of him.

"Addilyn." He spoke, "I was trying not to like you."

She let out a pathetic laugh before meeting his eyes again, "Why not? Am I not enough for you or something?" He shook his head quickly, denying her claim.

"That's not it!" He sighed and looked in her eyes again, setting off a deja vu affect in her consciousness. "I knew Arthur liked you, and I didn't want to get in the way of that."

"What..."

She left Pierre's hotel suite about half an hour later, she forgave him for everything. Maybe she shouldn't have but whatever feelings she held for him a year ago were now long gone. And she couldn't really blame Gasly for stepping off when his friend showed interest, she would do the same thing. Does she believe him when he says he didn't know she had feelings? not really. But it didn't matter.

It's easy to see that the two of them were fine being just friends, though it made him wonder, "How come you acted fine at the beginning of the season?" He asked as he walked her out.

"Because I didn't want any tension between us. You and Charles are close, and my teammate used to be yours. I figured if I was going to be around you I might as well get along with you. Not to mention, Charlie kinda told me you were completely clueless as to why I stopped talking to you in the first place."

"if there's still something there later on or something bothering us, we tell each other?" They both agree on this. Right now the past is the past. But sometimes the past comes and bites you right back again, and that's a fear of her's.

The two of them hugged, wishing each other the best before they continued their friendship. No feelings were there, and Pierre is a great guy. Her crush on him last year was just that, a crush. However, now she has another bush to burn, Arthur.

[march - a lot of writing this chap :)]

everyone watched with shock as the young driver's car flips and crashes into the barrier. "addi? addi are you okay?" nothing. no response. the connection was gone after a couple of seconds.

"red flag, return to pit."

"who is that?"

"is that leblanc?"

"is she okay? please say she's okay"

"no confirmation yet."

the other drivers all return to the pit, all but charles and lando who are seen climbing out of their brightly colored cars. charles runs to the side of the car, speaking to his childhood friend, praying for a response.

it felt like slow motion, watching him run out and crouch down before he turns toward the medics and gives a thumbs up. lando repeats the action, jumping and running over to with the medics

"she's responsive!"

she's helped out of the car before the two other drivers help her toward the ambulance, hopping in with with her and the other medic as the crowd cheers and claps. "she's limping on her right leg, but she's up, giving everyone a thumbs up. she seems like she's going to be okay! leclerc and norris are sticking by her side as well, so she has some support with her."

"this girl has been through a lot recently, certainly one of the strongest driver's i've seen in a long time."

[few days later]

arthurHow are you feeling? How's your ankle? You and Lando are hanging out? I wish you'd talk to me. I was so scared when it happened. I'm sorry I couldn't do more.

pierreI saw Lando's story, I'm glad you're at least with someone I like seeing you smile. I wish you'd talk to me. I know it's probably selfish, it is selfish. But I miss you I texted Norris, I think he'll probably show you, but he said you're holding up goo which makes me happy. Take your time recovering. I hope I see you in the paddock

max Perez is gonna take your seat until you're recovered. I prefer you but you didn't hear it from me. Rest and take your time but also hurry up and heal.

the girl sighed as she looked at the stacked up messages on her phone. she felt bad that she wasn't talking to any of them, especially now that they know she's talking to lando and charles, but she couldn't really escape them all that much.

she has her social media back, well, except twitter. and she has her comments restricted. which is fine, but she hates not being able to interact with her fans.

she had thanked the ferrari and mclaren drivers for risking their race to help her, she wishes they wouldn't have. she would've loved to see either of them potentially get podium after that crash.

at first, the crash didn't seem to affect her much, other than the ankle and bruising. she thought she was okay, at least mentally and emotionally, but she keeps getting these nightmares. Indescribable, blurry, but terrifying nightmares.

"you okay?" lando questioned her, handing her a cup of the mocha iced coffee she lived off of. he finds it pretty gross, personally, but she enjoys it. she smiled at him when she sees the glass cup filled with the cold beverage being handed to her. he never fails to notice how her eyes sparkle, finding so much joy in the smallest of things.

"thank you!" she cheers and takes the drink from him, sipping it up from the pink glass straw, he sits next to her after replacing her old ice pack with a new one. "i'm okay, just would rather be doing anything other than sitting around."

"yeah, well to be active again you gotta be lazy for a little while." he smiled and chuckled at her. she nodded and put the cup on the coaster that was placed on the side table of the couch before returning to her book. "how many books have you read so far?"

"only two." she shrugged, making him chuckle again.

"only two?" she nodded at him, confused why he was asking, "you've been hurt for three days and you've gone through two books?"

"to be fair, the first one i was already almost done with and the second one was a reread, this one might take longer." she shrugged at him.

the two of them sit in silence, she reads, he scrolls through social media. the silence was nice, peaceful. it was something the two of them have gotten used to over these past few days. he's over quite often, checking on her, not giving her the choice to ignore him. and if lando isn't over, then charles is, or at least when they aren't there at the same time.

arthur has surprisingly only stopped by once since the crash. he stopped by when she was sleeping, charles said he told him to only stop by when he had the okay from him. he left some flowers and a teddy bear. pierre hasn't been able to stop by, apparently his trainer has him booked up, but he's sent charles over with some treats and flowers. max has also stopped by, but she was in the bath when he did, her brother let him in and let him leave behind some red bull and get well soon balloons.

the only driver that has stopped by and she talked to was seb, he texted her asking if it was okay if he came by having that he was staying in the same hotel. she needed someone to talk to, dad advice.

"hey kid," he walked in after nolan let him in, he had brought flowers that his amazing wife had bought for her and two stuffed animals that his children picked out, an otter and a bunny. "i can take these and let you two talk." nolan smiled and reached for the gifts, sebastian smiled back and handed them to the girls brother.

he bent over and hugged her, careful not to touch any bruises or her ankle. "how are you feeling?" he asked as he sat in the chair across from her.

she let out a sigh, "could be better," she chuckled, "i wish i could be racing."

"the more you take care of yourself, the sooner you'll be racing again." he stated with seriousness but still wearing a smile, always wearing a smile. "did you ever find out what went wrong?"

"it's under investigation, they said possibly hydraulic and brakes. but they also said that can't gibe me many details about it. i'm surprised i didn't hit anyone honestly"

"so hydraulic and brake issues?"

"more than likely, but they aren't telling me much, horner just told me they're looking into it." she shrugged, she's genuinely confused by what they're not telling her. it's obvious that it's not good though. "i'll probably find out after the fia releases a statement."

"so... your parents have been pissing me off on instagram." he tried joking, but he was dead serious. addi laughed a little, nodding like she was used to hearing that. which in some ways she was. she prided herself on being a family type of person, she does have a relationship with her parents. but ever since formula 4, her parents were very aware of their image. they wanted to be the picture perfect family. but no family is perfect, he dad struggled with some controversy with his business and taxes while she was in formula 3, almost faced jail time. her mom and whole family stuck by his side, even though none of them saw him for nearly three months.

there was also controversy with addi herself, being a girl in racing and all, and at that time, her parents were her managers. they always told her not to speak up about women's issues, don't be controversial, just race. she was never sure what her parents views are politically, they never spoke about it, they never let anyone know about their views. she believed that they didn't even know each others views. she asked only once about her parents view while doing a school project, but they told her that politics should be private.

however, as she's grown and started facing the recent issues with feminism, she started realizing that maybe her parents don't share similar views. the way they reacted to her helmet was not good, and then they stayed mad at her even now. when she crashed they were posting pictures from vacation. her mom did check in and call her, asking if she was okay. she stated that they weren't watching the race when it happened and called as soon as she found out. her dad however, not a word.

she talked to seb a little longer before he had to leave. of course, she couldn't avoid everyone, she has talked to many people from her team. nolan and claire flew out and decided to travel with her and the team to help take care of her, so she has people she's talking to, she just wished she was alone sometimes. but having the support made her happy.

"how's the book?" lando asked after about an hour, he moved from scrolling on social media to playing some type of game on his phone, he must be getting bored. she sighed, putting her bookmark in place and closed the book.

"it's okay, the main character is kinda bland." she said. she loves reading, it's something she tries to find time to do more often in between her busy schedules. she gets very wrapped up in the characters she read about, she sometimes over-analyzes them. "but the love interest is just... perfect." she beamed.

lando's body language naturally leaned in closer, finding adornment in her excitement about the fictional story. she rants on about the sappy romance of the goofy love interest and the depressed main character. she smiles as she speaks about the details she tells him, making him return the smile.

"so what's stopping them from getting together?" he questioned, it didn't make sense, if the usually bland and depressing main character feel happy and exhilarated around the animated love interest.

"oh! that's something that makes me so upset, she's worried her mental health will ruin his." she scoffed, "which is ridiculous because he's clearly so in love with her."

lando finds the sentence quite... familiar. "so... it's about a depressed girl and a happy-go-lucky lover. why are you even reading it?"

"i don't know, it was recommended to me. but i'm too far in to stop."

the brit nodded and looked at her for a second, "can i ask you something?"

"i don't see why not." she shrugged with a grin on her face.

"what happened between you and arthur?"

her smile faded a little, not into a face of anger or frustration, but sadness. "uhm, well... he likes me, and i just... don't think i like him like that? i mean, there's something there but i still don't know what it is. and, i don't know feelings are complicated."

he nods in agreement, he knows the feeling. "why not try it out?"

she laughed at him and gave him a look that screamed 'be so for real right now' "this is 20 years of friendship we're talking about, we've known each other since birth. i can't ruin that with him." he hummed in response with a head nod. "so your kiss with pierre has nothing to do with it?" he teased a little bit making the girl roll her eyes and shove his shoulder.

"there's just so much going on, i have a lot of feelings."

"towards arthur? or pierre?"

"towards... a few people, them included."

lando raised his eyebrows in surprise, "you're just falling in love left and right, eh?" he joked, making addi for a small smile on her face before it fades again.

"i wouldn't say love, maybe more of confusion"

"understandable, especially with our lifestyle, finding and feeling love can be hard." he nodded in agreement, knowing his own struggles in finding a good relationship. "so, pierre, arthur, who else?"

"you can't know all my top secrets norris," she lightly punched his shoulder, more of shoving it, hoping to hide the pink emerging on her cheeks. "pierre and i don't even really have much going either."

lando tilts his head, pulling his eyebrows together, "elaborate?"

"we agreed that the feelings were in the past. but, i'm not too sure anymore."

"why not?"

she looked in his eyes, his eye color confuses everyone, including himself. but she's a strong believer in them being blue with flakes of other colors here and there. they're quite unique, beautiful. "he came to my hotel room that night, when i was avoiding everyone under the sun-"

"you're still doing that, but continue," he chuckled. addi rolls her eyes and continues her explanation, "i yelled at him. and i'm not one to yell to be honest, i mean before everything that's been going on i've always been able to control my emotions fairly well. but i just, yelled at him. and i wasn't even angry at him. but even with my psychotic breakdown, he looked at me the same way he did when we kissed."

lando doesn't necessarily like what he's hearing, but it's addi we're talking about, he's going to listen. this is the most she's talked to him in about a week, and if it wasn't for the fact that she crashed in bahrain, he wouldn't be there with her. it's quite cruel how the world works. "so he has feelings for you too, what's stopping you from getting together?" he repeats the same question he asked about the fictional character earlier.

she takes a second to think about how she should say this, if she should even say it at all…

"you."

"my team confirmed that everything is safe and ready for this weekend, so i have nothing much to worry about, right now at least." she nodded and smiled after speaking into the microphone in her hand. every interviewer has asked about her car, the mechanic, the legal side of things. which she understands, but media in general just stresses her out and exhausts her more than they should. it feels like every week there's a new scandal, a new headline, new lies. this is just a waste of time.

"what is your legal team doing about this?" the interviewer questioned with a slight head tilt.

"my personal legal team is working with red bull's, we're trying to figure out every detail. but uhm, for now there's not much i can say about the legal side of things." that's code for the pr manager and and attorney's told her not to speak a word about the legalities. there's not enough proof and information for the public to get ahold of it.

"thank you addi, good luck this weekend."

"thank you." addi and her manager, lacy, walk off, the young manager hand her the red bull water bottle. the driver lets out a sigh as they walk back to the team hospitality. "i'm so tired."

"i know, adds."

lando caught up with addi and her manager, talking about the track and other random things, "where's luisa?" she questioned, she assumed the new wag would be in the paddock now that the grid has been introduced to her.

"oh, we aren't public yet."

she was slightly shocked by this, she hadn't been caught up much with the public lives of the drivers. however, she assumed with the proof of the fans that lando would reveal the 'mystery girl'. she let out a chuckle, "you might as well be, they have pictures of you guys all over twitter and tiktok."

the brit laughed back, "we just aren't ready for that yet, being in a public relationship i mean."

the two continued on convercing when they saw max and a little girl dressed in a red bull team shirt and a mclaren hat taking a picture together. after a couple pictures were taken, max pointed out his teammate and friend, speaking to the girl in his native language. he introduced them all to each other, addi was quick to giving the young fan and hug and smiley greeting.

they take pictures and sign her shirt and hat. "you just made that girls day!" max chuckled as they all walk off.

that's something addi really loves about this career. the fans, the traveling, the fast paced lifestyle. it was exhilarating and never got boring. she loves this life.

"so, what's going on with you and lando?" max finally asked when they made it back to energy station. they were walking to their drivers room to relax a little. "what?" she chuckled and looked up at her teammate.

"you two like each other, so why does he have a girlfriend that isn't you?"
