⤷ notes: chapter 2 of fictional!! this is a bit of a filler chapter to dive deeper into what happened at the end of chapter one (which is linked below). i hope you enjoy!!

"i'm just gonna go in here," lando turned to max as they walked the streets of monaco and stopped outside of a local bookstore. "going to see if they have that book my mum mentioned she wanted."
"okay," max nodded his head, patting his friend on the back as he moved past him. "i'll meet you back home., then"
the soft jingle of the bell above the door accompanies lando as he enters the small bookstore, the smell of new books hitting his nose as soon as he closes the door behind him.
"bonjour," the elderly woman behind the counter says, looking over the top of her glasses and offering him a smile before going back to reading her book.
"bonjour," lando nods his head in her direction, eyes turning to look at the array of shelves in front of him.
what lando had told max had been a lie, his mother didn't want a new book for her birthday, and they'd never even spoken about books before. he was looking for something that had been on his mind from the moment he knew about it, something that he knew could be in this very building right at this moment.
meeting an author was not on his bingo card, not that he ever thought it was impossible. but meeting an author, creating a connection and never seeing them again; that's the things that he didn't expect.
there had been a day for the past year where he hadn't thought about his whizz-with-words, and, after everything that had happened, when he found out you were releasing a new book, he took it as an opportunity to once again feel closer to you.
his eyes scanned the shelves, looking for the cover he had studied over and over again after seeing the release photos.
cover after cover, passed his eyes until he saw it. his heart started beating a little faster, and his breathing became a little heavier. he looked at your name, his mind repeating it to him over and over again, your name ringing in his ears in the exact way you had said it to him twelve months ago.
he takes the book from the shelf, holding it between his palms. the physical presence of something between his hands reminded him of what it felt like to touch you, to hold you.
lando spends some time just staring at the book, thoughts in a daze before he finally decides to flip the book over to read the blurb. he had no idea why, but the thought of reading what was going to be in the book felt a little invasive. as if he was breaking into your most personal of memories.
the back of the book read: 'it's in the heat of the august sun that everything feels possible. everything's just a little better, skin sunkissed, hair flowing in the light breeze and days seemingly lasting forever. there's a lot of time to fall in love during those long days. something lily grove knows all about.
summer's in monaco seemed all the rage, spending a few weeks to pretend that you're something you're not. surrounded by millions of old money and expecting only a fun time with her friends, the last thing lily expected was to be to find love.
but life's full of surprises. when lily meets an ex-racing driver and businessman logan newby after a night out in one of monaco's most well-known clubs, the two are quick to form a connection.
but with logan's busy lifestyle and lily's stay in monaco only being temporary, can they make it a lasting one?'
the beat in lando's chest turned to pounding, a noise he heard in his ears as he gulped down the lump that had formed in his throat. he was quick to place the book back on the shelves, the already enclosed walls of the bookstore somehow feeling much closer to him. it was as if he was struggling to breathe and his only release was outside, in the cool winter air.
"au rev-," the bookstore owner begins to say, but she's cut off by lando's quick exit from the store.
taking deep breaths when he gets outside, bending over with his hands on his knees as he attempts to achieve an ultimate calm. once his thoughts are as collected as they can be, he pulls out his phone and opens his contacts in search of a number that he hasn't texted in way too long.
