i will never forgive that youtube video. not just because baby shark is annoying and became absolutely inescapable, but also because it makes the song really really boring. smh. before it was everywhere, when i was in summer camp, the version of baby shark WE sang started off the same way, you know. baby, mom dad, the whole shark family. but then it continued and became a narrative of someone swimming at the beach and being eaten by a shark one limb at a time, trying to swim faster but losing a lot of blood. then the song has a section describing the attempt to give the swimmer cpr but it fails and they die. then the song wraps up by describing the swimmer being reincarnated as a baby shark and you sing the first verse again. now of course i do not like the perception of sharks as bloodthirsty man eaters, but i also think it's important to let elementary schoolers sing songs that are just kind of violent and messed up. its good for them. all our favorite camp songs either made no sense or involved dying in some way thats just how kids are you know? i will never forgive them. they made our beloved gory violent shark attack song so boring. it was always annoying but at least it wasnt boring.

anyway. sorry for sending this mostly unprompted. i just needed someone to know. anyone. please did anyone else sing that version i have yet to meet someone not from my hometown who knows the violent version of baby shark

I am so so tired of hearing this take TW: discussion of the canonical rape/noncon perpetrated by Faith in S4. Under the cut.

It actually disgusts me, makes me want to rip my hair out, that over and over and over again I hear that what happened is somehow Riley's fault.

Some of you all need to take a sex ed class or something, because Riley DID NOT consent to having sex with Faith in Buffy's body. Sex without consent is rape. Riley was raped. Say it. Riley. Was. Raped.

And I will gladly fight anyone who someone wants to use this as a point against him. He was raped. Not his fault. End of story. Saying otherwise is victim blaming.

Could he maybe have handled the situation better? Possibly. But that's something that gets said to victims of SA all the time. "You should have done something differently." That, that right there? Victim blaming. Stop it.

It sickens me that it was not really addressed how much of a violation that was in the show, but it's worse that some parts the fandom continue to insist that Riley was somehow at fault, or that the fact that he was raped makes him a bad person.

And yeah, what Faith did was a violation of Buffy, too. And yes, she was in the wrong. Yes, I still like her as a character, just like I like a lot of other characters who have done bad stuff. But this post is specifically about the horrendous take I keep seeing.

I've seen this take so so many times. It will never cease the disgust me. Knock it off.

First off, I want to say that in that iron ground is an amazing fic I can't believe you're out here writing this for free for all of us to read! Second, I just wanted to talk about the one scene that I keep thinking about which was when Max and Daniel were in the cab after Daniel was a jerk and Max smiles back and holds his hand - Did Daniel truly realize how much of a jerk he was being? What was he thinking? I know Daniel was wondering if "one afternoon is enough to unravel years of hard work" but I just want to know more!! How did Max deal with a mean Daniel? I understand his circumstances are terrible rn but I honestly don't think I would be as emotionally strong and capable as Max while Daniel was being like this! Was Michael like ???? I also loved the scene where Daniel and Max talk about marriage and forever ... everything about this fic was 1000000/10

i think, max's ability to deal with daniel's meaness is due to the way i see max as a character, which is to say he's somebody who is very resilient and capable of incredible compartmentalisation. like not to get too deep into like controversial subjects, but he's well practiced in forgiving or overlooking questionable behaviour from people he loves (j*s).

so i think in this particular situation, where daniel is having the worst day of his life, he would be able to recognise that as the reason for his beahviour and forgive him quickly. Daniel is his man, you know, why wouldn't he be forgiving of him? in a sadder way, i think max is quick to take responsibility (and even blame) for other peoples emotions (see: 'it cost a marriage' about his first championship) so i also don't think its that much of a reach to think that he would like, offer himself up to be a place where daniel can put this irrational anger. but remember, max does call daniel out in the previous scene by telling daniel bluntly 'you are being an asshole,' so hes also not totally self sacrificing. and in the cab, when daniel reaches for him, this is enough in max's eyes, like he takes it as a 'sorry,' because he knows daniel doesn't totally have the capacity for an apology right now, when he feels like hes been so wronged (not by max, but by the the loss of his father) and everything is so unfair. he's just shocked because he was thinking maybe he'd have to deal with daniels anger a little longer, but he's happy he doesn't.

basically, i think in a way his trauma has made him kinda emotionally mature in some ways.

& because i'm a romantic at heart lol, also this fic, they love each other a lot and have been together for a long time too, so max is also thinking 'if daniel is feeling these emotions, id rather him share it with me than go through it alone,' so if he's gotta be the person daniel gets mad at to do it, so be it. if that makes sense (not claiming any of this dynamic is healthy, but then emotional responses after grief rarely are and the whole point of the fic is to explore that lol so pls dont come for me in my ask box lol).

then onto daniel, and "one afternoon is enough to unravel years of hard work". For starters, this phrasing is pretty uncharitable to max, but on purpose bc as discussed, daniel is going through itTM rn. but i think this is fundemental to the thought process daniel has throughout the fic where he is has seen himself as the protector, the person who reshaped a lot of the things his father had taught max about what it was to be a man, to be gay, to be a race car driver, he's tried to get max to a healthy place, where is doesn't feel the blame and guilt and shame that his childhood left him with, but more than anything, he's trying to be a safe place for max. somewhere where he never questions that he's loved, and never experiences the pain he did as a child, that results from anger. but now *he* is the person causing this pain and he's worried that max is going to lose faith/trust in him for that.

while like i said, max rn is just like, "daniel just found out his dad died, of course he is going to be angry, but it is okay because he touched me nicely so i know things are fine now."

michael is just like, eyes forward, nothing is happening, lah lah lah lol, like he is not interested in getting involved in the ins and outs of their relationship.

But hmmm probably Impulse 1995 and how much of its contents are largely an allegory or direct depiction of neurodivergence and the foster care system, and how the dynamics between some of the characters are about overcoming generational trauma/abuse while finding family along the way.

I have been oscillating about these options for a while now because I’ve kind of had a niggling feeling they might do that for angst, but whenever I think on it, it doesn’t really make sense to me for her to ‘choose’ EJ. I think they have spent the majority of the season building towards showing the cracks in pw’s relationship and showing why they fundamentally don’t work as a couple (bad communication, different life stages and just not ‘getting’ each other). Plus if they have EJ get a job at the school it would be even weirder for them to date imo, because it would be kind of like a student dating a teacher 🤮

I do think that Rina won’t end the season together and that they might have a bit of angst end of s3/start of s4 where they both are in a place that they realise that they have feelings for each other, but Gina doesn’t want to pursue a relationship with Ricky because she was hurt by the events of s2 and just got out of her relationship with EJ (If you have seen Hart of Dixie, I’m kind of thinking like Zade end of s3 - where Zoe says to Wade she wants to be with him and he is reluctant to get back together with her...)

i respect people who like to see izutsumi as chilchuck's straight up adopted daughter post-canon but personally i like to see it a bit differently. like the fatherdaughterism is THERE but it remains unspoken forever. she does her own things and probably wouldn't confine herself to one spot. im sure she bounces around between all the main party members, whenever she's not on her own adventures. i find it more interesting to see their relationship as like...coming and going. she shows up at chilchuck's house or his shop at random, and stays for days at a time, and after a while they're able to fall into a routine as if it's second nature. they don't even talk all that much. their silences are comfortable. when she takes off again, he doesn't say anything sappy. he says something like "don't go eating a bunch of junk." or "don't go out of your depth and get yourself killed. this isn't the dungeon, you won't be resurrected." she hardly responds and leaves. she'll return again, maybe weeks or months later, and she'll stay for either a few hours or for a few days. and he'll appreciate the company without ever really saying it. and so it goes on
