I'm not sure if this is the end for the QSMP, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were shut down soon after this.

The eggs have been the lifeblood of the server since they were introduced, and having some of them permanently gone from the server is devastating for so many reasons, and bodes terribly for the future of this project. My optimism has run out. I will still wait for updates but I have no hope.

However, I wanted to write a piece for the community here on Tumblr. I know we're all very emotional right now, because while we have no confirmation that the QSMP will permanently close, we now have good reason to assume there might just be no other clear path out of this.

To the community:

Do not feel like you have to stop loving the server and everything it created. Do not stop creating art. Do not stop sharing why you loved the characters and the story and the world.

To completely boycott everything QSMP, you are discrediting the incredible work that the admins put into the server purely out of passion and the kindness of their hearts. Do not waste their sacrifices. Talk about the server and everything they did for it, give them recognition, let them know we love and appreciate all the time and care they poured into this project. Thank them by caring about their work that they put so much of themselves into.

To completely boycott everything QSMP, you are ignoring the beautiful friendships it created between content creators who otherwise would never have met, and the way it ignited such a fierce determination to learn about others' cultures in them. You are forgetting how much these streamers strived to tell engaging, relatable, fun stories, by themselves or with each other, and to have their fans talk about how much they liked their newest lore. You are refusing to acknowledge the effort put in by everyone on the project to tell amazing stories through the language barrier.

And to completely boycott the QSMP, you are denying yourself the fact that you loved this server; the eggs, the streamers, the stories, the cultural events, the laughter, the sadness, the friendships, the ship ships, the builds, the mods, the languages. You are part of this server for enjoying it's wonderful vitality and beauty and hilarity. As a community, we all are.

I have had my gripes with the QSMP fanbase, as anyone has gripes with the dysfunctional mad household they live in, but at the end of the day, I love it so much. This has been my first time actually being part of a fandom; interacting with people and sharing my art and my ideas, getting into silly debates and arguments, running my mouth off more than I should. I love this bizarre toxic fandom for all of it's worth; I love the fanfic writers (even if I think their characterisation is terrible), I love the fanartists (even if they give Pac those yellow scleras that always make me think of jaundice), I love the live bloggers (even if they clog up the main tag), I love the people who write analysis, the people who make animations and animatics, the people who webweave, and all the other things people in this fandom do to interact with the media we all collectively love and bond over.

We do not need to let this be the end of our community, as we can still share our admiration for the hard work put into this project, lift each other up, express praise where it is warranted.

And we can talk to each other, we can vent about how this has negatively effected us (provided we tag it appropriately 👁️👁️) and respond in kind to those seeking someone to speak to who relates.

The QSMP taught us the value of communication. While behind the scenes, it itself did not abide by it's own rules, we can. The QSMP itself is not the figurehead of communication; the content creators and the fans it sent this message to are. We can be an example of what the QSMP should have stood for.

I do not love the deeply flawed execution of the QSMP, but with my whole heart I love the idea; the ambition, the goal. It was noble. It, to some extent, worked.

It united communities.

Let it unite ours.

Thinking about this one webweaving post and loving someone to the point of invention. Carmen loved Michael and sketched out The Bear. Taking something that may have come up in passing, maybe back when he was still allowed in the restaurant and connected with Mikey, and while in a good place (Copenhagen) Carmen sat down and felt this thing needed to become real in some way, not just in his head or a past conversation with his brother. Unfortunately he couldn’t take the next steps to turn the sketch into a real brick and mortar place with Mikey, but there must be some comfort knowing that Mikey kept the sketch, hung it in the Beef, and even while suffering through his addiction, his deteriorating mind thought it still important to leave the note and put that money aside for Carmen. So Carmy can invent that something from his love, even if it’s without his brother — but it is with him, in some way. That he chose to create this invention with Sydney, who has no connection to Michael but is nevertheless trusted to take this next delicate step with him, adds another layer that I need to chew on.

hey anon, thanks so much for this message! it's really great in and of itself, but it also sparked some thoughts for me, so excuse the length of the response :)

i *love* your timeline of the drawing: mikey and carm talking about their ideal restaurant before mikey banned him, then carmy sitting down in *copenhagen*, a comfortable and magical place, to draw his and mikey's dream restaurant--to make it real. though i suspect creating that drawing also came from mikey ignoring carmen's calls, as carm's way of trying to salvage their straining relationship.

and as for mikey it is so telling that he kept it and hung it up. i have a larger meta just growing in my drafts that breaks down certain scenes in fishes, and the scene where carm gives mikey the drawing is a big one. it's a fucking bittersweet scene, truly twists my heart: you've got carm looking the happiest and most hopeful we've EVER seen him, beaming up from behind his hand at michael. like he looks boyish here. it's all he wants.

and then there's michael, who looks shattered. it's such an earnest gift. it's carmen's way of saying, "i'm all in. this is doable. this is my future. it's *our* future." and how does michael react? it guts him. he can't see this hopeful future. it's all failed ventures, and a sinking restaurant, like a weight around his neck. he tells carm, "let it rip," which is not "let's do it" it's "you have my blessing."

when carm gets called away by donna, mikey's so distressed over this gift, this future with his brother that he can't really see himself in, that he hits himself. it even pushes him to use--the beer he had been imbibing up to this point couldn't manage the distress he's in, he had to get high.

like, it's fucking brutal to think about, that you can draw a direct line from mikey's outburst at the dinner table to this earnest gift from carmen (not that lee helped the situation).

but despite the distress (and to your point), mikey kept the drawing and hung it up. it's his north star. the reason he hid the money in the cans... and not to put a painful twist on it, but maybe amassing enough money for carmen gave mikey permission to go through with killing himself.

and then you have syd! syd who is so future oriented she made a binder of improvements for a shithole failing restaurant she just started working at. like loving someone to the point of invention... mikey was a black hole, who loved his brother so much he set him up to create the thing. but syd loves this world, loves the act of creating so much that invention is her nature. carmy finally has someone who can see that future with him.

... the second most hopeful carmy has ever looked is when syd walks through the doors in the season 1 finale, while they're removing money from cans, and they both immediately fall into step, creating their dream restaurant. together.

So you want to make one of those neat little posts with the images and the texts that read like a poem and have an overarching theme, but you don't even know what they're called, let alone how to do them. This post is your sign from God (me) to make one because I love them so much and also some tips on what I do.

1. What are these things even called? these are called web weaves or web weavings and as far as I'm aware their pretty much only on tumblr rn.

2. What kind of things can I use? Literally anything. The more various your scources, the cooler. You can use peoms, books, lyrics. Paintings, Graphics, photos, stills. Messages, posts, asks, comments. I especially love to use posts or messages etc. that someone posted in a very mundane manner and elevating it with the web weave and acknowledging the poetry in our everyday life.

3. How do I put it together? I first gather all the material I want to use into one draft, then I rearrange over and over again and see what effect it has on me. The main method I use to judge whether I am satisfied with my web weave is if it has an effect on me. If not, then I rework it again and again.

4. But how do I even start my first one? So, I have a folder with close to 300pics of potential material for web weaves. My advice is to start gathering your own stuff, take screenshots of literally anything that makes you feel stuff. Keep your eyes open in the real world for graffiti or bathroom stall scribbles that make you feel something. Poetry is just words that mean more than just their content and that is present everywhere.

5. Should I title my webweave? I prefer to give my web weaves a title or short caption, because it makes it easier to understand the theme. Themes can be anything, from vague concepts like "love" or "guilt" to very specific things like "I wear headphones all the time because I was screamed at so much, I never want to be screamed at again, I need a voice screaming at me all the time." Art speaks for itself, but titles often still help your audience understand the register of your art to even know how to listen.

6. Sources. I'm really bad at this one. Try to take screenshots in which you include the source you got it from. It's good practice to list all the sources in order at the end of the webweave. But often I end up with webweaves of which there are at least half of the screenshots I don't even remember where I got from. The oy thing I think is absolutely inacceptable is using someone else's post or art without asking for permission and crediting them.

Ok, I can't think of anything else rn, but ask box is open (as always) and if anyone wants some pointers do not hesitate to message me either, I am crazy about web weaves and will absolutely support anyone who wants to try their own hand at one.

Was listening to the everything everything discography on shuffle (i have spotify poor only ok sorry) and Bad Friday came on right after Violent Sun and it felt like a revelation??? Because ok. Re-Animator ends with Violent Sun, and then Bad Friday is the first new music we hear from EE after that, and I wonder what story that tells??? I feel like a lot of people were drawing parallels on fb when this happened also...

Thematically both songs are similar - something about a relationship taking you out of reality, and while on one hand, violent sun feels a whole lot more positive than bad friday - "and she's saying you don't have to be a lunatic or an error or a prisoner of your terror" - there's violent imagery in both of them.

VS: obviously the violent sun, the violent arms, "the flesh in the machinery jams" - a fairly visceral image (but also i wonder if u could ponder cough cough's cog next to a cog next to a pit???? Someone should do webweaving for machinery imagery), "they come to take away the rest of our hands" - removing part of your body is quite violent? But also maybe the removal of agency....

In BF, the violence feels less abstract and more ominous... "looking for me"/"coming for me"/"hunting me down" vs "running for my life"... and "bust me out of my head" both as a literal statement of a wound but also the sense of becoming unconscious or unknowing - you're no longer you when you don't know what you're doing... and of course the "blood all over me!"

And theres this concept of not being able to put your finger on it -some vagueness in VS's explicit statement of "and you realise you don't know how long", and the almost slurring imagery in listed items: "dreams and the colour and the moment" "and the tears and the venom and the plasma". In BF, there's the repetition of "I could not remember in the morning" "I'm wondering" "I can't remember", "You must have" (where it's more of a guess than a statement), the lack of surety of whether it was a Friday or a Saturday night and the fact that the speaker keeps asking questions...

Also the key-est parallel in 'you know this will be gone in the morning' vs 'i could not remember in the morning'?? One feels like youre still in a dream and havent realised whether its bad or good yet (the fact that at the end of the day despite the tender imagery of her taking [you] into her arms, they're still 'violent'), and the other really feels like youre waking up from a (potentially lived) nightmare...

I guess these songs are so interesting to look at in parallel because they have pretty similar imagery but are executed in such different ways - i think the sonic choices have a lot to do with it but i do not have the expertise in analysing music to bring that into the argument. (Somehow they're sister songs to me - there's something about the driving rhythms and the feeling that you're running (toward? Away??) from something) and also the fact that theyre on the poppier side of ee's discography???)

Violent Sun closes off an album that deals with feeling in a more abstract sense with so much monster imagery - making it feel a whole lot more fantastical. Bad Friday, while not the album opener, does bring us into the world of Raw Data Feel - one where personal/interpersonal relationships are dealt with more directly (see the Kevin/Jennifer/Raymond narrative situation) and also life in the digital age (think about how the only way the speaker in BF has proof is the photos theyve got on their smartphone? Though it's not the most obvious theme in the song) which kind of brings us back down to earth... (and away from the sun???)

truly, i don't know why she feels my posts are offensive. i hate the idea that a jewish person feels i was antisemitic and fetishizing jewish culture. i researched antisemitic fetishization tropes in opera during my undergrad program. ive always tried my hardest to understand minority communities that i am not a part of, without overstepping and seeming like a white knight/savior. i have always been guided through life by my ethics and a burning need for social justice. i want to fix this!

i was really pissed off yesterday and used more aggressive language in my posts and replies. today my head is clearer but im just as confused. i never expect minorities to do the emotional labor of researching topics for me and handing everything over on a silver platter. i will gladly educate myself, but i cant do that when i don't know what i did wrong. this isn't a situation where i did something clearly wrong and there's an obvious gap in my understanding - ive asked multiple friends where they feel i went wrong, and all of them have said they aren't sure

one very kind person messaged me about how, from an outsiders perspective, they were reminded of other situations where autistic people have their words or actions purposefully misinterpreted, and that seriously opened my eyes. OBVIOUSLY im not saying this person is accusing me of antisemitism because she hates autistic people. but i have often experienced people purposefully misrepresenting me and getting mad without explanation. everything starts out good, great even, and i build a script with which to interact with others. but eventually, you get very comfortable and stop following a script, start to unmask a little. and suddenly all hell breaks loose.

you're not acting right. you said the wrong thing. who would say something like that? so inappropriate. and when you ask for clarification because you genuinely do not know what you did wrong, all you receive are eyerolls and more hate because you should already know this, im not gonna spoonfeed everything to you. you're an adult figure it out yourself.

like i said, i don't think she's, like, hating on me for being autistic. i think ive gained a certain reputation (of what i don't know) in the shameless fandom, and people are projecting their preexisting judgement into me. this means that they don't actually want me to apologize. they don't care. they think i am already not a good person and just want to point that out to me to shame me into saying sorry because they think it'll knock me down a few pegs. whatever. my real offline life is much worse than getting mildly ganged up on on the internet. ill survive. i still want to finish my mickey embroidery and my edits/webweavings and my fics. maybe i will, maybe i won't. like ive mentioned many times before, i have pretty bad rejection sensitive dysphoria and i need to be reassured i will get feedback on my works before i ever post them. my fics were already being ignored by most of the big fandom writers - i think those will just have to be scrapped because i genuinely cannot take hollowing out my chest and putting it to paper only to get a few nice comments/kudos. the embroidery though, that's for me. i definitely wanna do it. the other original posts like webweavings, idk maybe i really don't know
