Forget about the "male gaze", let's talk about the "straight gaze"

Am I the only one who finds it weird that some people listens to 0 (zero) by LMYK, The case study of Vanitas' ending song, knowing that it's about Vanitas and Noé's relationship and still completely deny that the song could imply anything romantic?

Yet I'm 100% sure that if they listened to the song without any context attached to it they'll immediately categorize it as a romantic song

Or how they'll go through all of Seraph of the End manga and still think Yuu and Mika aren't in love with each other? Like we've read the same thing?? Have you seen the cheesy lovesick dialogues they've share through the whole story??

Note: I might be paraphrasing for some lines, but this lines are real, you can look them up

And I'll stop bc too many spoilers, but do you see what I'm talking about?

I could keep going with more examples but I'll stop here for my own sanity, like, am I going bananas? Am I going absolutely crazy?? I just can't imagine the mental gymnastics you have to do to deny of this, wtf?

I really don’t think any other character’s story in Genshin Impact has resonated with me as deeply as Kaveh’s has. I think it’s because it’s pretty grounded in reality when compared to most of the other characters in the game. He chooses to be kind to everyone he comes across because he would never dream of hurting anyone on purpose. He stands by his ideals and runs himself into the ground for the sake of his beliefs. He’s such a tragic character who keeps drowning in his own grief and guilt. He’s become more jaded after everything he’s been through and he knows that dreaming comes with a price, but he still CHOOSES to be good. My god. I love him.

EXACTLY! being single is way better than being stuck in a relationship that isn't fulfilling.

this is coming from personal experience but i've been in a relationship EXACTLY like midleven and let me just say, it was the biggest mistake ever – we rushed into the relationship after knowing each other about a week (sound familiar?) and it was a mess. i put in 80% of the effort into the relationship while he just sat back and basically let the relationship go. it was draining and worsened my mental health a lot. there were so many times back then when i just wished i remained single (even now i still do). el deserves sm better.

This is one of the most harmful takes on Milkvan I have ever seen??? You shouldn't stay with someone just because they feel like your only option, and being trauma bonded to someone isn't a thing you should build a relationship on! What the hell

right??? reading that in my inbox made me feel physically sick.

this is one of the biggest reasons we need the duffers to break midleven up in season 5 – them staying together and not breaking up (and getting married and whatnot??) just reinforces harmful tendencies and makes the audience (ESPECIALLY the young audience) think that relationships like midleven are okay and the norm when they are NOT.

i feel like midleven breaking up and forming a beautiful platonic relationship with each other instead would also serve as an opposing perspective on relationships like ted and karen – showing the audience that opening up and being honest with yourself (and being your true self) while NOT leaning into heteronormativity/forced conformity allows you to form relationships you ACTUALLY want instead of getting stuck in ones you don't want (for mike's perspective).

and then for el's, it could be that "taking the time to understand yourself (who you are and what you needs/wants are) is loads more important than rushing into a romantic relationship)."

regardless of whether byler happens or not, all i know is that midleven NEEDS to break up – at least for the sake of the audience watching.
