wednesdays were your least favorite day of the week for one reason only: your industrial arts class.

i mean, who’d enjoy getting drenched in their own sweat while trying to play around with rulers every week?

i’m not even gonna be an architect, why do i have to learn this? you thought to yourself as you were hunched over your armchair, trying to replicate what your seatmate had done before he triumphantly got up and walked to the teacher’s table for checking.

you erased your circle…thing for what felt like the millionth time, your eraser shavings and crumpled-up bond paper being the only thing you could show for yourself after almost an hour. you stared at it for a second before swiping the eraser shavings off from your desk (along with your insecurities) and hunched over, ready to try again before a shadow loomed over you.

everything passed by and all you could do was stare in awe at the girl who took one look at your paper, hummed, and pulled up a chair beside you to finish the job. you were frozen; not even processing how softly she took the compass from your hand.

you snapped back to reality just in time to see her finish your plate activity with a flick of her wrist. literally.

she took one more look at it and hummed before putting your compass down and getting up to fall in line and have her work checked.

you all but stared as she leans against the board nonchalantly, not knowing if and how you should thank her for saving your grades -- only for the five-minute warning bell to remind you that her effort would be fruitless if you didn't go up beside her to line up.

in a rush, you haphazardly grabbed your paper and rushed to take the spot beside her, leaning against the board alongside her. your eyes travelled the room, observing the whole scene.

soon enough, you met the gaze of your savior.

surprised, you broke eye contact and suddenly found the wooden flooring much more interesting — an amusing sight to said savior.

you mustered up the courage to thank her while she was close, but you must’ve missed how the line had been moving since the next thing you knew, she was walking away from the teacher’s desk.

“oh, i’m screwed…”

sitting at your assigned desk for your final exams, what was running through your mind wasn't the math formulas you had to memorize, no. instead, it was about how you could've -- should've -- reviewed your math lessons last night instead of napping the whole day.

what was that you kept saying, y/n? it’s all common sense?

noting the mini study group that formed behind you, you moved your chair closer to their circle, hoping that whatever they were talking about would stick around long enough to get you through the exam. you took a peak at the notes that were sprawled across the desk — and your future crumbling before your eyes.

you leaned back in your chair. just smile and laugh, folks, you thought as a defeated chuckle spilled out. you heaved out a deep sigh and looked up at the ceiling, resigning to your fate and deciding that napping would be a much better way to spend your time. you dragged your chair back to your seat and rested your head on your desk, ready to go off to dreamland before you felt a tap on your shoulder.

you let out a groan loud enough to make sure the perp was aware that you were not pleased by the interruption. with furrowed brows, you got up and looked around for whoever wanted to be on top of your kill list.

instead, you found a stack of well-organized notes on your desk; hope this helps - g.e, the sticky note on top read.

needless to say, that test was a piece of cake -- considering how you breezed through it with 30 minutes left to spare.

so did your savior, apparently.

when you turned your test over, you sat up and looked around at the rest of your classmates who were still hunched over and struggling through the test. all except one who met your gaze.

you gave her a small smile and nodded in acknowledgment. she returned the greeting before facing forward at the proctor's insistence, playing around with her pen to pass the time.

"what the hell?!"

a lot of things made you go, "what the hell?!" but you'd never "what the hell?!"-ed more than you had today.

the project that your pe teacher just sprung on you guys about making a dance routine, the fact that your friends ditched you to pair up with each other, and the sight of gaeul-sunbae approaching you--wait what?

"hey, you wanna pair up for this?" she asked casually. all you could do was stare at her dumbfoundedly.

and let out a single syllable.

"huh?"

"well, i just noticed that all your other friends paired up with each other, so why not?"

"i mean...i don't see why not?"

"okay, so i'll make the choreo and send you the video. just follow it, and then i'll edit the whole thing together. shouldn't take that long," she said with finality before walking off to the bleachers, leaving you to think about what the hell just happened.

wait, that's it? am i really going to get hard-carried by gaeul-sunbae for a whole project without talking to her at all?!

exasperated at the realization, you huffed and puffed your way across the gymnasium, eyes locked on your target while everyone else's eyes were locked on you. the whispers were as good as white noise to you because your ears were fuming with steam at your sunbae.

why?

you were about to find out as well.

"yah!"

surprised at the intrusion, gaeul looked up at you with wide eyes. "um, yes?"

"what the hell is your deal?! why do you keep helping me?"

she calmly stood up, making sure to avoid your flailing arms. "well--"

"does this stroke your ego or something?!"

"wait, what? that--"

"oh, of course it does! i'm like your damsel in distress, huh? well newsflash, sunbae," you emphasized the title by pointing at her chest so hard she sat back down, "i can help myself."

with an annoyed eye roll, gaeul stood back up, holding your wrists together and bringing them down, making your resolve falter.

"that's no way to treat your sunbae, is it? especially one who's been so nice to you," she scoffed.

under her scrutinizing gaze, you were left speechless.

"you're lucky you're cute. now close that pretty mouth of yours, would you? wouldn't want any flies flying in.

unless you need my help there, too?" she asked while gently holding your chin between her index finger and thumb, closing your mouth and making you look up at her.

with a tut, she tapped your chin one more time. "now, if you excuse me, i'll get working on our project."

Something I find really grating is people who self-identify as fandom olds who think it's gross of these damn kids these days to like and admit to liking interaction with their fanwork. "Back in my day I read fic in a .txt file with no ability to comment at all and we all liked it that way!" Okay but my mom wrote Star Trek zine fic and people would respond and pass on comments to the zine distributors about things that other fans wrote, drew, etc. It wasn't a moment of great shame where they awkwardly admitted yeah, they are guilty of the uncool sin of liking a thing someone else created. It was a "I love this and I want you to know I love it!" that was not done with a disclaimer going "not that I need human interaction, I'm a super cool lone wolf who needs no one!" and was received happily by fandom creators, who did not then cringe and go, "I'm sorry I like feedback, that's super gross of me, I know I should be against social interaction like the cool kids". Before fan zines, people were still writing fan letters to creators of things they liked. Before I knew what fanfic was, I still doodled fan comics when I was eight and liked it when my friends read it and said they liked it. Before fan letters, people still had fans of their work. Shakespeare spoke with fans. It's not a new, rare, sick thing to enjoy creating something and enjoy people commenting on what you've made.

"You're trying to turn fanfic into social media!!!1!" is always the strawman this gets met with, but... no. Before social media was a concept, before the oldest fandom old's grandpa was born, people were still sharing things with others and enjoying getting a response. People have not, traditionally, created in the hopes of never having to put up with something as awful as someone saying "I loved this!" about their creation. Either my entire Art of World Civilization class last semester was wrong or in fact humans have traditionally been totally fine with people reacting to what they create and in fact sharing things with the intent no one speak to you about it is a very foreign, unusual thing, not a new-fangled trend of the icky teens. Creating things for the joy of it and not hiding it away lest someone make a comment was the way things were done for thousands of years. That's how folk art works.

Maybe some people really long for the days of downloading things as a .txt file and not seeing hits, kudos or (worst of all) comments. But the idea that liking comments or liking replying to comments means you're part of the problem in fandom baffles me. Why would I dislike it when someone says, "I really like this line!" and why would not replying be better? I get it, I'm Gen Z, I'm a special snowflake, I'm desperate for attention, etc., but so are most generations before mine. Art galleries in pre-Revolutionary Paris didn't exist because of us darn kids and our need for validation. They existed because liking feedback is pretty natural. And not wanting to see feedback is natural, too - that's why I know so many adults who have never shared anything they've written - but it's not the only "correct" opinion out there.

It's weird that in an era of death threats, rape threats, suicide bait, racism, Islamophobia, antisemitism, transphobia and queerphobia in fandom all being discussed, instead of going, "Harassment is bad" a good chunk of people went, "Interaction is bad and liking it is bad, too."

Fandom as a solitary endeavor doesn't make sense to me. When did we go from "fans interacting is fine" to "oh gross, fucking kids and their attempts to turn AO3 into social media"?

I see people like the anon who proposed the "win" solution of not even being able to leave kudos on a work on AO3, shutting down all features that might risk a word being spoken to another person, and I just don't get it. I don't get why that would be a good thing. I get that if you speak to others you risk a negative interaction, so some people don't want to do it. Wanting existing spaces to rip out any and all features in place that allow communication, I don't get. I genuinely do not see what is wrong about interacting with someone about something you wrote, or about something someone else wrote.

It's honestly kind of depressing to me to imagine not being able to gush and write a super long comment to an author about how much I like their work. I love picking out individual lines I loved and pieces of prose that painted a picture for me. I enjoy quoting bits and explaining how that worked even better for me on a reread than it did the first time now that it's in full context. I like telling authors how a scene made me bite my lip because I was worried and tense because I was so invested in their writing. And no author, not one, has ever turned to me and gone, "Ugh, you Gen Z and your comments! Whatever happened to the good old days?"

I see the "don't speak, want to be spoken to or respond" attitude on DW and on tumblr from people who self-identify as fandom olds and I'm sorry to get all Gen Z psychoanalytical on you, but all I think to myself when I read that is, "Who hurt you?", because that's the only reason I can imagine someone viewing people interacting with others as bad. It reads as a trauma thing.

Really? That's a "fandom Old" thing now? I thought most people were still hung up on how community was so much better on LJ or whatever.

putting them all below the cut to save space, and i cannot stress enough that if you want to read most of these you Need to read all the tags. some of these are very light and sweet, others do not play about with the genre. i’ll be giving overall synopses + warnings (somewhat) but do read the tags for further details!!

in loco parentis by nymm_at_night is. well. you’ve all heard me praise it before. you say “more” so i assume you’ve already read it, but i legally can’t make a fic rec list without it. it centers around jeff, jack, and ben + tim/brian, and is where i’ve taken So much inspiration from. if any of you who like creepypasta have not read it yet please do. tim/brian (in a divorced way), all the chapters have their own disclaimers but the overall biggest overarching ones i can think of are semi-heavy descriptions of death and gore.

visual arts by killer_cat is a very good, short one shot! it centers around helen and jack and i absolutely love the author’s characterizations/interpretations of everyone. gen and mentions of blood/typically creepypasta-typical killings, but overall nothing too major

KISS ME WHEN YOU KILL ME by notaccessible is unfinished with only two chapters, but i really like where they’re going with things! they’ve retold both jeff and jack’s origins in pretty compelling ways. jeff/jack, but there’s no actual ship content as of yet. there are a few heavy scenes, largely dealing with abuse, murder, and suicide, largely in jeff’s chapter.

undone drawings by sleeplywritings (pancakebluess) is a very sweet, cute one-shot about sally and jeff. some of the formatting is wonky at times when it comes to the dialogue, but it’s not too bad, and overall understandable. plus the overall mansion dynamics are fun and silly (AND they’re normal about tim 🔥🔥). gen + no real warnings

water bearer (paint me red) by xfreesomebodyx is a one-shot centered around jeff and jack. it goes into extreme detail about jeff the killing people, so do tread carefully, but i REALLY enjoy their jeff characterization. i like it when authors latch onto his whole being beautiful bit. i’m ambivalent towards their jack at best, but GOD is jeff well-done in this. heads up so you don’t get confused like i did there IS a formatting error in it where a section seems to have been pasted twice (as of writing this). tagged as jeff/jack but there’s nothing explicitly romantic, largely just subtext/undertones.

a house full of serial killers VS the barbie movie starring margot robbie and ryan gosling by salty_sam is a one-shot chatfic but you guys know they’re my guilty pleasure so i can’t not add it. it’s largely just the author messing around with character dynamics and mansion relationships which is what i am here for always. tim and brian are off (brian especially) but everyone else is super fun and consistently entertaining. gen, no real warnings outside of mentioned drug use

handling rejection by sunsh1ne_sweethe4rt has wonky formatting BUT if you can get past it it’s just a cute one-shot, if not a little simplistic in terms of writing. it’s just about tim trying to help nina get over her crush on jeff. i’m a bit biased bc anything with tim written normally makes me instantly herald it like a miracle but i really just think it’s cute and funny :] gen (with the exception of nina’s crush on jeff) and no real warnings i can think of

déjà vu by nightstar1888 is a bit hit or miss for me due to their tim/masky characterization, but i REALLY enjoy the stuff they did with ben. it’s a one-shot about toby helping jeff dye his hair, nothing too special, but i like the parallels they drew between then two. it’s tagged as jeff/toby but nothing romantic really happens outside of a few lines of semi-flirting, no real warnings outside of mentions of toby + jeff’s backstories and all they entail

the collar incident by honeycirrus is. well i’m hesitant to fully recommend it. there are certain parts of it i really enjoy, especially with the dynamics between the mansion cast, but that’s pretty much it, and those are kind of few and far between. i’d recommend the first four chapters ish? they do some fun stuff with BEN that i might honestly steal for myself, but i spent way too long wondering if they actually meant BEN or didn’t get the 2020 lore update. ben/toby, one semi-intense self-mutilation scene.

I enjoy analyzing the real-life origins and inspirations for Pokémon. Because I’m a marine biologist, I have so far covered the origins of all fish Pokémon and all other aquatic Pokémon, but I did not cover starters. That’s because I’m going to go over them separately. Welcome to the first of a three-part series analyzing and explaining the real-life origins of all the grass-type starters.

Gen I gives us the template for all grass starters going forward: Bulbasaur. As the first Pokémon line in the dex, it introduces a lot of trends, such as the concept of evolution and how the different stages appear to be more mature versions of the ones before them. Bulbasaur and its evolutions are most directly based on frogs, but they also take influence from a number of other creatures. In fact, what the -saurs are supposed to be has been a matter of debate amongst the fandom for quite a while. Given that Bulbasaur’s Japanese name can be translated as “it seems strange”, the ambiguity seems intentional. The biggest thing people seem stuck on when it comes to the frog origin is how their legs are so short and don’t take on the classic frog leg pose. The stubbiness of their legs is similar to those of the genus Ceratophrys, also known as dwarf frogs or pacman frogs.

The line also has similarities to extinct species like pareiasaurs or certain dicynodonts (therapids notable for protruding tusks, similar to the exposed teeth of the Bulbasaur line). Given that the early generations did often make some obscure paleontology references, it certainly isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that these were intentional.

Of course the Bulbasaur line are both plant and animal. The bulb on its back matures while the animal evolves, going from a bud in Bulbasaur, to an almost mature flower in Ivysaur, to a fully bloomed flower in Venusaur. The leaves on all three look like palm fronds and Venusaur’s flower looks like the real-life Rafflesia arnoldii, the largest flower in the world.

Mega and Gigantamax Venusaur don’t stray far from the original, just being exaggerations of Venusaur rather than incorporating new influences. I found conflicting accounts of the line’s designs. One interview with Ken Sugimori and Atsuko Nishida states that Venusaur was designed first with the other two being designed backwards from it. Another source states that Ivysaur came first, being included in Capsule Monsters, Satoshi Tajiri’s original pitch to Nintendo that would ultimately develop into Pokémon.

Gen II gave us probably the most-maligned grass starter, Chikorita. People give it shit for having the worst gym matchup of possibly any starter in the franchise in its debut games and for the line remaining cute all the way through. I like the design personally, but that gym matchup really shot it in the foot. The whole line are based on sauropod dinosaurs, the famous long-necks like Apatosaurus and Brachiosaurus.

The combination of plant and dinosaur could be a reference to Nicolia aegyptiaca, a type of fossilized wood that was initially mistaken for a piece of dinosaur jawbone. While Bayleef and Meganium have the classic sauropod neck, Chikorita’s is shorter, making it look kind of like a pear or a Belgian endive. The endive origin is more likely considering it is a type of leaf chicory, which is the origin of Chikorita’s name.

Bayleef’s name is a dead giveaway that the leaves around its neck are bay leaves. These are aromatic leaves used for seasoning and aromatherapy. Specifically it is based on a bay laurel, the most commonly used bay leaf. Bayleef having a very strong, spicy odor references the aromatic nature of bay leaves and their use in aromatherapy. The flower petals on Meganium’s neck are probably based on geraniums, the origin of Meganium’s name. In addition, a ring of flower petals with a long, green stalk in the center is reminiscent of Amorphophallus titanium, the corpse flower. Meganium’s antennae are based on a flower’s stamen.

The Treecko line are based on leaf-tailed geckos, who have flattened tails that look like leaves. These are used as a form of defensive mimicry, making predators overlook the gecko by mistaking it for a leaf.

Grovyle and Sceptile gain features from therapod dinosaurs. Specifically bird-like dinosaurs like Dromaeosaurus, with the leaves acting like the dinosaur’s feathers.

Sceptile meanwhile gets the twin head crests of Dilophosaurus.

Grovyle and Sceptile having red underbellies/lower jaws most likely comes from male lizards who have colorful dewlaps used to attract mates, such as green anoles. Sceptile’s tail looks like a fern or a yew tree. Both fit with the orbs on its back, could be a fern’s spores or yew’s berries. Mega Sceptile’s tail looks a lot like a Christmas tree and the ability for it to be fired like a rocket launcher references autotomy. This is the ability of an animal to shed a body part and regenerate it later. The most famous example of autotomy is arguably the ability of multiple lizards to shed and regrow their tails in response to predators. The anime also gave the whole line ninja-like behavior, with them engaging in swift surprise attacks.

The Turtwig line is my favorite grass starter line and Torterra is my favorite of all the final-stage starters, so I’m excited to get to talk about them. The line are based on terrestrial turtles and tortoises. Turtwig seems to be a box turtle while Grotle and Torterra take on snapping turtle characteristics (though actual snapping turtles are amphibious). Grotle and Torterra also take inspiration from ankylosaurs, especially the twin spikes on their heads and the longer, thicker tails, though they lack an ankylosaur’s thagomizer.

Finally, the whole line are based on myths of the world turtle. These myths occur in cultures around the world and state that the earth rests on the back of a giant turtle. The most famous of these myths is the Hindu version in which the turtle is named Akūpāra and is another name for Kurma, an avatar of Vishnu. It is this version that inspired most modern depictions of the world turtle, most famously the version seen in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series.

Another variant occurs in China, where after the four pillars that held up the sky broke, the goddess Nüwa replaced them with the legs of a gigantic turtle named Ao. The world turtle also appears in the Americas, found in multiple Native American cultures from what is now the midwestern and northeastern United States and southeastern Canada, including the Lenape, Haudenosaunee/Iroquois, and Anishinaabeg cultural groups. There are many variations of this version of the story, but a common feature is the world being flooded and multiple animals trying to dive to the bottom to bring up soil so it could be placed on the back of a turtle and grow into new land. Because of this, a common name for the North America amongst those cultural groups is Turtle Island. Torterra is a small version of the world turtle, with only a tree and miniature mountain range on its back, but the intent behind its design is clear. It can even support an ecosystem, with mentions of small Pokémon living on its shell.

The Snivy line have been confirmed by the designers to be based on snakes, with the first two stages being given short limbs to make them look less intimidating to new players. Reiko Tanoue, the line’s designer, says she got the idea for them after reading a picture book that mentions snakes with the appearance of vines. There are various tree-dwelling snakes that this could refer to, though one of my favorites is the green tree python, which has Snivy’s green coloration and certainly could be mistaken for a vine.

The tiny limbs of Snivy and Servine may draw from skinks, lizards known for their relatively small legs. Some species of skink have even lost their legs entirely and developed a snake-like body plan.

The two may also be inspired by fossilized proto-snakes, who were long and serpentine but still has small limbs, or by snakes who are born with one or more legs as the result of a mutation. If Snivy and Servine are skinks, then Serperior could be a legless lizard instead of a snake. Multiple lizard lineages have lost their legs and adopted a snake-like body plan, but can still be distinguished from snakes by a number of different features. Serperior’s ability to paralyze opponents with its gaze comes from two sources. The first is the muth that cobras and other snakes can hypnotize their prey (which is the basis for the move Glare) and the second is the basilisk. Basilisks are legendary creatures from European folklore with the power to kill anyone who makes eye contact with them. While described as “the king of serpents”, many depictions of basilisks make them look more like lizards or monstrous roosters (a result of them getting confused with the cockatrice, another monster).

Ken Sugimori has confirmed that the Unova starters were all designed with different cultures in mind to reflect the diversity of Unova. The Tepig line were given Chinese motifs, the Oshawott like were given Japanese motifs, and the Snivy line were given “western” motifs. Given that he explicitly cites the character of Lady Oscar from the manga The Rose of Versailles (which takes place in France during the life of Marie Antionette), it’s pretty clear that what he’s referring to as “western” designs are European symbols and heraldry. Specifically, Serperior’s design incorporates the fleur-de-lis (based on a lily) and acanthus leaf motifs (based on acanthus plants).

Chespin is the first grass starter to be based on a mammal, something that seems to have started a trend as two of the next three starters are also mammals. They are based on hedgehogs, though I think Chespin also looks a lot like a chipmunk. While normal hedgehogs have spines made of hair, the Chespin lines are made of plant material. Specifically, they are based on chestnuts. More specifically, they are based on the cupule, the green, spiky coating that covers immature chestnuts to protect them from herbivores.

Cupules are typically green, fitting the color of Chespin and Quilladin. The hard shell is much more noticeable in the middle and final stages, where it might also derive from armored mammals like armadillos and their extinct glyptodon relatives.

The final forms of the Kalos starters are based on the fantasy character archetypes of the warrior, mage, and thief. Chesnaught is the warrior and its armor makes it look like a knight, fitting for a region based on France, the birthplace of chivalry. Its shell is based on medieval armor and a helmet, while its bulkiness, hidden ability of Bulletproof, and stated ability to survive bomb blasts without a scratch are based on bomb suits. These suits are used by people working with explosives to protect themselves and can be considered a type of armor.

Rowlet is quite possibly the cutest of all the starters and is based on a barn owl. This family of owls are known for their white, heart-shaped faces that matches Rowlet’s design. Common barn owls have become an introduced species to Hawai’i.

Another owl the line is based on is the pueo, which is found only in Hawai’i. I’ll come back to them later as this inspiration really stands out in Decidueye. Dartrix continues the barn owl inspiration but has also become a dandy. The dandy trope is a man who is very devoted to his personal appearance and grooming and is typically a fan of leisure. Dandies are often played for comedy as they are perceived as upper-class twits and due to gender roles assuming that caring about your appearance is a feminine trait. Dartrix certainly is the comedic dandy as the Pokedex points out how it can get so absorbed in grooming that it forgets about other stuff. Decidueye drops the barn owl inspiration in favor of the pueo and the extinct stilt-owls. Stilt-owls are extinct (hence the ghost typing) owls native to Hawai’i that had long legs and while they could fly, they spent most of their time on the ground. Decidueye also has long legs and while it can fly, it loses the flying type. Decidueye also draws from the ‘aumākua, ancestor spirits in Hawaiian mythology that would watch over their living relatives and protect or judge them as needed. They would manifest in the form of animals or inanimate objects and one of the most famous of these physical form is the pueo owl.

Decidueye’s archery and green hood and cloak of feathers is a clear reference to Robin Hood. Hisuian Decidueye also draws from mythology, being a reference to the Ainu (indigenous people of Hokkaido, the basis of Sinnoh/Hisui) god Cikap-kamuy, god of owls and the land. Hisui has a lot of references to Ainu culture. Being based on the god of the land might be why H Decidueye is a terrestrial owl, though this may just be a holdover from Alolan Decidueye’s origins. H Decidueye’s coloration is a reference to leaves turning red in the fall. Autumn leaves are also associated with Rōnin, disgraced samurai without masters who would commonly be wanderers, just like H Decidueye. The shape of its head feathers look like kasa, wide-brimmed Japanese hats that samurai are often depicted as wearing.

The Grooky line are primates, with Grooky itself being a monkey. More specifically, it’s a squirrel monkey, new-world monkeys known for their small size and who have similar mouths.

It using a stick references how primates are the most famous tool-using animals and a stick is a pretty versatile and simple tool if you know how to use it. Macaques use sticks to drum rhythmically on objects as a dominance display, which is pretty close to Grooky using it as a musical instrument. Thwacky looks a lot like a caveman (still a primate) and wears its sticks in its hair like hair sticks. It continues the music theming. Music is a universal human trait and is used for innumerable purposes. Thwacky using its drum beats to rile it and others up indicates it might be based on music used in warfare to inspire the soldiers. Thwacky still has a tail, though it is shorter, meaning it is still a monkey. Rillaboom, on the other hand, is based on a gorilla, an ape (yes, apes are a subset of monkeys but most people think they’re different). Its drumming motif comes to the end where it is now a drummer in a band (more obvious in its gigantamax form). It takes some influence from Japanese taiko drum, but that wild 80s vine hair makes it a pretty obvious reference to rock-and-roll band members. England has a pretty big rock-and-roll culture with famous bands like the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin.

Sprigatito is a cute little kitten, likely that of an Iberian lynx, an endangered species of wildcat.

While people like to joke that it’s based on marijuana, the grass inspiration actually comes from jessant-de-lis, a heraldic symbol that is a fleur-de-lis coming out of a cat’s head.

If Sprigatito is the innocent child, Floragato is a rebellious teenager. Its bipedal stance, dark feet, and its cunning behavior make it a dead ringer for the tales of Puss in Boots. The yo-yo bud it uses normally attaches to the upper left of its chest, making it look like a flower worn in someone’s lapel. Something that fancy seems out for a scoundrel of a Pokémon, but it could be a preview of its next stage’s more upper-class demeanor. The final forms of the Paldea starters are all based on entertainers and Meowscarada is a magician. As such, it is a master of sleight-of-hand, which it uses for its Flower Trick unique move. Its mask draws from those worn in masquerade balls. The masks were used to hide the identities of the attendees and hiding identities is definitely useful for a roguish dark type.

In fact, both Floragato and Meowscarada take inspirations from picaresque novels, a genre focusing on characters who survive by cunning and trickery. The mask and flower could also come from Mardi Gras and the flowers thrown during it.

Haeddi lips were pursed to a thin line as she bashed the clothes into the water. Ardith’s apology did not spring from her lips before Haeddi yelped herself and flung her arms out of the water, scrambling backwards with a scream. “That’s a girt licker fish if I ever saw one,” Eoforhild commented as she waded through the shallows, her skirts slowly getting heavier as they absorbed the river-water. “It’s in my knickers!” Haeddi screamed in horror. “My unwashed knickers!” “Get they out before they drowns!” Ardith yelled as they all moved their arms frantically through the floating clothes. “Get ‘is ‘ead!” Haedi gave another scream as she flung herself back. “I touched a leg! A-and it was-cold!” “Ye betwattled girl!” Ardith shouted as she managed to find some hair and started pulling on it valiantly, “yer feet are cold as a dead fish when autumn comes and we don’ be running screaming!” “Heave harder, ye spindly crow,” Eoforhild shouted. “Ye got the head, now keep it up!”

I made this with the understanding Sole lost their arm before the bombs dropped. I unfortunately did not include DiMA, I did not play Far Harbor to completion and it is very hard to find good videos to fully fill in the gaps.

Nick doesn't understand how you did it but he's glad you did. Being disabled has always made life very difficult, even more so in the after the bombs dropped. It makes him relieved that you found a way to combat that, all the more impressive you used tech you weren't familiar with.

Danse is mostly appalled. You are using enemy technology and tying it to yourself. Not only is that dangerous but it is, in his eyes, an abuse of tech and goes against their teachings. He won't order you to get rid of it on the basis the alternative is you have no arm but make no mistake, he will make his disapproval known.

Father doesn't understand why you won't let him gift you a much better one. They have the resources to make one stronger, more dexterous, and even blend to your skin so no one could tell it's not flesh. But you have always had your reasons so he won't pry.

Bonus!Codsworth is so happy you finally got a prosthetic. After you came home injured you did not get everything you needed and Codsworth was you front line advocate. He would send letters to the state asking for proper medical attention for not only war heroes like yourself but veterans in general. He would always be with you in the middle of the night helping your phantom pains or PTSD episodes. He would also talk with neighbors to help in make petitions. A part of him is resentful his cries were never met but he couldn't help but feel proud that progress was made, even if you had to make it.

Get To Know You - Sims Style

Thank you to @descendantdragfi and @bioniczombie for tagging me 💙💙💙

What’s your favorite Sims death?

I haven’t had any sims die recently, but I do have one wild story from several years ago.

When my 2nd Gen heir Maya and her sister went off to university, they stayed in the sorority house. The general university shenanigans were taking place (sims not cleaning up after themselves, piles of laundry everywhere, etc.), but I didn’t realize some of their roommates weren’t eating... until it was too late 😬

THREE (3) girls in the dorm died in one night! Two of starvation and the third from thirst (idk how she became a vampire). Since they all died so close together, the Grim Reaper just hung around the dorm until he reaped all of them. I had Maya collect their tombstones and take them back with her to Lucky Palms when the semester ended. Now they’re all resting in the mausoleum, hopefully in peace lol.

Alpha CC or Maxis Match?

Maxis-match with some alpha pieces here and there. Though I feel like the line between what’s considered maxis-match and what’s considered alpha in TS3 is way more blurred that in TS4.

Do you cheat your sims weight?

Rarely. Some of EA’s premades are just so skinny sometimes!

Do you move objects?

All. The. Time. I can’t remember a time where I’ve played or built without it on. It makes it so much easier to squeeze sitting chairs or plants or floor lamps into tight corners and make nice collages of different wall art that overlap each other a little.

Favorite Mod?

Gosh there are so many mods that I absolutely love, and lately the TS3 modding scene has been putting out banger after banger, but my most recent favorite mod is @thesweetsimmer111′s More Toddler Interactions! I love being able to feed toddlers outside of the highchair and actually give them baths. And Savanita’s animations are always so cute!

Probably my test sim, Leia. I created her from scratch and use her to test my mods and any CC I download, but lately I’ve been thinking of actually playing out her life. She’s also the adult sim in my Yoga Mod cover photo. Here she is!

I did a few years ago, but I never got around to playing her. I wonder if I still have my simself’s household somewhere...

Which is your favorite EA hair color?

I haven’t used an EA preset hair in 10,000 years, but I guess the black one isn’t too terrible.

Favorite life stage?

I feel like Young Adult is a boring answer, so I’ll say Teens lol.

Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?

Mostly gameplay (and testing mods/cc :p). When I build, it’s usually remodeling the interior of an already existing build.

Are you a CC creator?

Yes!! I started with TS4 to TS3 conversions, but I’m also a modder now 😁

Do you have any Simblr friends or a Sim Squad?

The Sims 3 community on Tumblr is pretty small, and I feel like we all know, follow, or are in a Discord server with each other (shoutout to the TS3 Creator’s Cave members!!). So, in a way, we’re all in the same squad ✌

Do you have any sims merch?

Unfortunately, no.

Do you have a YouTube for sims?

No.

How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing?

I used to exclusively play with families and progress through a few generations, but recently, I’ve been playing with more single sims to experience parts of the game I hadn’t really touched on before. I’ve also gotten a lot better at avoiding “same face” syndrome when I give existing sims a makeover or make them from scratch. Getting more comfortable with custom sliders has definitely helped with that too.

Fluffy February Day 1: Hello (with bonus art!)

Pairing: Background Theron/smuggler, mostly gen fic

At first, Theron thought he hadn’t had enough caf. Clearly, he’d been so reliant upon it for most of his life, going without it brought on something along the lines of DTs for alcoholics, but for caffeine addicts. He was seeing things.

But when it kept happening, even after the second cup of caf, Theron decided something else was going on.

Whenever it was still and somewhat quiet in the military hangar, something was darting around the underside of the vehicles. When someone or something moved or made a noise, the motion stopped, and either the thing stopped where it was or it disappeared entirely. Then the pattern would start again.

Theron had long tuned out Aygo – he already had the morning report, and Aygo was rehashing something that nobody had the resources to fix at the moment.

But then something caught Theron’s ear. “Repeat that?”

Aygo squared himself up. “I said, we’ve now had four inventories come up short compared to what’s on the flimsi. I don’t know where it’s going. Visz didn’t take well when I went over to her den of thie—smugglers.”

Theron shook a finger at the Bothan. “Don’t let the Captain hear you say that. She’d be insulted that you think she’d dip into her own supply.”

Aygo made a face; given that he was a Bothan, Theron didn’t quite know how to read it. He’d have to ask Bowdaar later.

“What’s missing?” Theron decided to move the conversation on, even as he caught sight of the … thing… again.

Aygo ticked off the items. “A couple of gear boxes for the speeders, wadding from the armory, an entire set of camo in each pattern we have – arctic, forest, desert, you get the idea --, a few batteries about the size of a thermos, tubing, a ball bearing –”

Theron gave him a look. “A ball bearing? Not a box – just one ball bearing?”

Aygo threw up his hands. “If I understood the thief, we would have caught them by now.”

Theron furrowed his brow and looked at his datapad. “Are you sure this stuff isn’t just being misplaced? Big base, lots of different personnel---?”

“I had Gibbons reorganize the supply system as a punishment. Kid improved it out of spite – and I can live with that, as a commanding officer. And it’s not an error. I’m sure of it. Stuff is systematically disappearing, but why? For what? No idea.”

Theron nodded. “Right, then. I’ll look into it.”

Aygo moved on, and Theron descended the steps down to the main floor of the military hangar and headed straight toward where he’d last seen whatever it was he had seen.

His comm link jingled a familiar tune.

The motor pool is officially concerned, darling.

I know that!

Theron kept diving to the floor in order to try to get a look at whatever was skittering around, pressing his face hard against the duracrete to peer under vehicles.

…has it occurred to you that some poor critter has stumbled into the hangar and is terrified?

But that wouldn’t solve the stolen items problem.

Maybe the two aren’t connected?

Gut says it is.

Stars know I won’t question the infallible gut. But you are making the mechanics nervous.

Theron left Eva on “read.” He would figure this out.

“Hello!” Theron grabbed it in his hands and held it up triumphantly at the guys in the motor pool, who by this point were taking bets as to how long it took until Beniko showed up to take him to the nearest funny farm.

The absolutely horrified expressions on their faces made Theron take a second look at what he’d pulled out from under a heavy armor unit.

It appeared to be a half cyborg, half animal abomination….but before Theron followed through on the urge to chuck it out of the hangar, he recognized it. “Hello, Blizz, wherever you are. I got your cat droid.”

“Spook is funny. Spook stubborn. But Spook did catch cat.”

Then the Jawa himself finally appeared, looking very pleased with himself and with the reaction from the crew. Theron inspected it. “It looks at least half animal, now. Be careful you don’t get accused of cruelty or illegal experimentation.”

Blizz laughed that weird tingly Jawa laugh and clapped his hands in glee. “Blizz’s designs always improving! Lady Boss said the same thing.”

Theron raised his eyebrows. “How long have you been on base?”

“Five days. Blizz nocturnal. Worked on Hoth, then came when job was done after Lady Boss found him.” Blizz gestured impatiently for Theron to hand back his cat droid.

“Does Eva know you’re here?” Theron asked. Surely she wouldn’t have hid this from him.

“Lady Boss said to come. Never needed formal welcome!” Blizz scoffed.

Aha. He’d shown up unannounced.

…I found Blizz in the hangar. With one of his droid cats.

!!!!!!!

Theron could almost hear her bolting out of whatever meeting room Lana had her in.

“Spook, give back cat!” Blizz insisted. Theron finally handed back the now-docile/inactive droid.

Upon contact with Blizz, the animal started to rumble.

A purr, made with tubing, some wadding, and a ball bearing.

As Theron took joy in a mystery solved, Blizz pat the cat happily. “Blizz can make more! Lifts morale! Kills vermin!”

“I bet.”

“i don’t know who i am.”

stelle declares this as casually as a greeting, legs criss-crossed and posture far too informal against the seat of the train car. her eyes are glued to a coin on the table, fluidly passing it between each of her gloved fingers, silver as the hair that falls like curved waterfalls and billows from her shoulders. she only glances up briefly to the figure across the table.

kafka sits at the opposite end. her own gaze is piercing, and her stance so still and unwavering that if it were not for the steady rise and fall of her chest, or the gentle motions of her own bruised-purple hair against the air conditioning, one might mistake her for a statue. the air, save for the warmth of their own breathing, was frigid, a kind of cold directly contrary to the view from the window to their side; at current, they were passing through a sort of industrial portion of a distant, sunny city neither of them knew the name of (or perhaps kafka knew, stelle mused, but wouldn’t tell). “what do you know?”

the engine of the transport hummed. of course, they were nowhere near the astral express. as was the nature of these sorts of meetings between them, kafka chose the when, the where, and decided that today wasn’t a proper day to risk an arrest. once again, stelle was in the dark. she held the coin between her middle and index finger, running the ridged edge along the table like a child would a crayon, hatching faint lines into the wood. “blade said i was important to you.” she looked up again, without lifting her chin, and if she were talking to anyone other than kafka, her gaze may have been mistaken for exhaustion or impatience. “but i don’t know-… what we are, or were.” she hesitated for a moment. “what are we?”

the stellaron hunter laughed — the kind of laugh that sounded like wind chimes, that made the golden-white ball of destruction buried deep in stelle’s chest falter. a giggle. it was so unlike someone like her, to giggle. it was almost offensive. an outward jab. “see, this,” the trailblazer exclaimed, suddenly and inappropriately loudly and yet barely above her normal volume. she finally fully met the other’s eye level, extending her free hand to gesture at kafka’s action. “you never laugh. you chuckle, maybe. snidely. but you never laugh. i can’t even tell if you’re being genuine. are you making fun of me?”

kafka concluded her laughter unaffected by the mild outburst, placing her folded hands upon the table and allowing a moment to compose herself (though stelle noticed, with marginally more annoyance, how her smile remained wider than usual even if only by a millimeter). she finally opened her maw to reply, leaning forward as if to tell a secret. her sunglasses glinted subtly in the light — perfectly polished. “oh, dear, i would never.~ i just can’t help being comfortable with you.” she lifted a hand to rest her cheek with all too much grace. “but does it matter what you were before? what we were? is it not more freeing to know that you’re not weighed down by your past? what elio foresees is all any of us will ever be.”

without proper pupils, it should’ve been impossible to know exactly where kafka was looking, and yet stelle knew that she was staring right through her. it felt as though they were living in two different worlds, like the atmosphere shifted drastically between the two seats they rested on, and maybe they were. they may as well have been. even if kafka could stare into her soul, hold her entire self gently within her palms, kafka could never know the weight she felt, the weight that lived with her as long as she’d remembered — all she could remember. the learning, the experiencing, the way the thing residing in her threatened to take over everything, the-

“it matters, i think.” stelle shrugged, her shoulders light as ever. “i house a stellaron. i don’t lose sleep over it, but i must have been chosen for a reason.” there were always memories of jarilo-vi, of the xianzhou luofu, the twisted destruction that ruined all aspects of life — killed thousands, killed entire planets. stelle smiled, completely unbothered. what use was there, being unsettled, when this thing living (or unliving) inside her was all she’d ever known? she flipped the coin, over and over, against the table and under her fingers, until the clicks met the same steady rhythm as both of her heartbeats. steady, and slow. “i feel fear, so it’s not like i’m as courageous as you. i can die, so i’m not quite as resilient as blade. i assume i’m a short life species, so my body isn’t meant to handle this kind of thing. i guess i’m just built different.”

kafka shook her head. “i’d argue it’s just the opposite. you feel fear, so you’re even more courageous. you haven’t died, so you’re more than resilient.” her voice was velvety, silky as the webs she spun from her fingers. “you’re more than you’ll ever know. you are exactly what you need to be.“ she speaks too smoothly, stelle thinks, as if everything has been rehearsed, turned over and over in her head and spoken over and over to perfection. and perhaps it has.

“you speak a lot in riddles. you follow elio blindly. he’s not an aeon, but you worship him like one.” what was she even trying to say? it was unfair, a little. the way kafka could devote herself knowingly to a cause, that she could so easily find an explanation to her own existence, and in the same breath deprive her own supposed companion from the same satisfaction. kafka could know absolutely everything about her, but the other knew nothing besides little more than her name. “it sounds… naive.”

“you follow me blindly.” and suddenly everything went quiet. kafka leaned a little more across the table. perhaps her expression could be mistaken for warmth. “i believe he has the answers to the future, just as you believe i have the answers to the past. you have a choice to follow me, to talk to me, and you do anyway.” she lifted her head from her hand only to gesture subtly out the window: snow. “you don’t even know where we are. by your logic, the only difference between us and religion is that we communicate so directly. and i created you — at least, the wonderful version of you sitting in front of me now.~” she broke eye contact, for the first and only time, to glance briefly down at and then back up from the now-stilled coin. “what does that say about you?”

stelle stared, citrine against garnet, and for once, there was nothing to say.

609 Bedtime Story

OhmFluke getting yet another 2022 BL? For WeTV Thailand. No MDL listing yet. A one night stand leads to a series of mysterious premonitions and a possible parallel universe.

Absolute Zero - delayed from 2021

Wabi Sabi dropped a teaser at the end of 2021. But it’s one of those we know has been in the works for ages. This is a “time loop to prevent tragedy” romance. We don’t always get HEAs from this studio, so be on your guard.

Art Adore En

University set pulp, country mouse/city mouse, crush, cohabitation, they were roommates, gasp! (forced proximity) Bad boy Ray, an art major ends up rooming with Lloyd, an innocent English major with a sheltered background. got a trailer. Country boy studying at a university in Bangkok catches the eye of his senior.

Bed Friend

Office romance, enemies to lovers, good/bad pairing, player meets tsundere, f-buddies. Adapted from a Y-novel via reliable production house Mandee who dropped a mini intro and a few snippets in 2021. Leads: James was Gui’s best friend in Oxygen and one of my top picks at the time to get his own BL. I am VERY excited about this. Net is an established actor but has not done BL before. JimmyTommy supposed to be side dishes as this takes place in the same office as their BL, Middleman’s Love. See below.

Plot: Uea is reserved and shy and hates players. King is a big time flirt. They work in the same office and share a best friend. Despite the fact that they don’t really like each other they end up in bed together.

Rumors: This pair as originally supposed to be the side dishes for Middle Love, but it seems they split the two stories and gave James & Net their own series. Not sure if this is a lesson learned from Why R U? or a lockdown necessity or a shifting to an En of Love model or if James & Net did so well in rehearsal they earned their own series. They are crazy beautiful together.

Predictions: while JimmyTommy will hold down soft and emotional, I think Mandee is going to use NetJames to bring the higher heat, just like they did with FighterTutor. This series could be good especially as it is based on a book so hopefully it has some plot.

Between Us - delayed from 2020 (Nov 2022)

Side characters from 2019′s Until We Meet Again (adaptation of y-novel The Red Thread), this is an adaptation of spin off novel (Hemp Rope). The book tells WinTeam’s romance from the start, so we might get some recon reboot action (like LBC2). From Studio Wabi Sabi for one of their most popular (and commercially viable) pairs BounPrem (Long Khong, You Never Eat Alone, Seven Project, Even Sun), this has plenty of funding and distribution (WeTV) with established (if inconsistent) BL director New (who did UWMA). Special Cute (non story) teaser clips started dropping Nov 2021, filming also started then. Fluke (Pharm) and Ohm (Dean) are expected to reprise their roles from UWMA.

Big Dragon

Announced after (but adding to Star Hunter's) 2022 line up, It is based on the y- novel, มังกรกินใหญ่ by Aiden N Vivienne, features Mangkorn (Dragon) & Yai (Big) in a high drama high angst enemies to lovers with a blackmail plot and a secret piece on the side.

Bitter Sweet

Stars the same actors as My Engineer. But revolves around the co-heirs (played by Cooper & Sean) of a fancy Hotel in Bangkok plus the head pâtissier (Ploy) and head chef (Inntouch). Cooper & Ploy are paired as per usual, which means Sean & Inntouch are playing off each other. Perth and Lay may put in appearances. Official trailer.

Boxer In Heart

A love story blossoms within the boxing arena staring Junior Ronnakorn (Gen Y) and Tiger Tanawat from Pai Roy Kor Production. Announced Feb 2022.

Buddy Line Y Animal

AKA Buddy Line Y(aoi) Animal (seriously?) dropped a trailer. From the same people who brought us The Yearbook (ugh) and based on 4 y-novels written by Scriper, slated to be released this year. Stars Man & Tile (Yearbook), Oat (Make it Right), and unknowns.

Cafe In Love

New Thai pulp, stars the actor who played Noh’s best friend Ohm in Love Sick 2. When his coffee shop close, he tries everything to get it to reopen and falls in love along the way.

Chains of Heart

Suspense thriller about a forest ranger, smugglers, memory loss, and lost love. Stars Haii (Cirrus in TT2) and Poppy (Porpla in YYY). Adapted from a Y-novel of the same name by TJ Tommy.

City of Stars AKA Fueangnakorn

An actor falls in love with a programmer and the narrative intends to “explore the ramifications of being public figure in the social network era who must endure critics, bullying, and defamation.” Looks like another Lovely Writer / Call It What You Want sort of thing.

Destiny Seeker

Songkram and Aye both are engineering students and live in university dorms. Songkram is the head student of dorm 3, which is where the "strong and athletic" male students are sorted. Aye is the head student of dorm 2, the dorm where all the "good looking" male students live. Aye used to be Songkram's tutor and friend, but they fell apart after both of them were chosen to be head students of the dorms. Dorms 2 and 3 have been at each other's throats for generations. Aye and Songkram might act like enemies, but Aye is actually in love with Songkram. However, he thinks Sonkram has feelings for Mean. What Aye doesn't know, is that he's the one Songkram likes, not Mean.

So, Bad Buddy the second coming.

The Eclipse

Tropes include: sinister boarding school, haze the one you love, good boy/bad boy, suspense & horror elements, self acceptance themes, a curse, enemies to lovers. GMMTV 2022 line up announcement full trailer. Staring First (The Shipper) & Khaotung (Tonhon Chonlatee) side dish pair from FUTS NeoLouis, and Pawin (My Gear and Your Gown). Looks good, dark, kind of Blacklist-ish meets Great Men Academy. I actually really like this pairing of Leads and I think they can handle the content. I’m excited about this one.

Fahlanruk - delayed from 2020

(Also spelled Fhalanruk - sigh) Y-novel adaptation featuring one night stand, friends with benefits, pining seme, and high heat. Trailer from June 2020 said coming 2021, so we live in hope. It’s from director Koo who has a long back catalogue of shows, if not a great track record with BL (Club Friday and Tonhon Chonlatee are his).

Plot: Fahlan (smart jock) meets Sherbet (edgy bad boy) sparks fly and they end up in bed together. Fahlan feels a lot more for Sherbet than is allowed, so he hides his feelings. Fahlan’s friends Ping and Tap, try to help their boy win his man, but are struggling with friends-to-lovers woes of their own.

Looks to be a strong contender in the Thai BL pulp dumpster fire of joy arena. It’s using tropes we rarely see and it tonally seems like a combination of Nitiman + Y-Destiny’s players episode (2 of my 2021 favorites). I like sexually messy and identity confused college dramas but this isn’t popular with BL main, and I suspect tastemakers know that. So Fahlanruk might struggle to find funding, but I will toast mad marshmallows over it, if it burns in truth.

Future the series

Based on a y-novel by Faddest (En of Love - yeah I didn’t know that was based on a novel, either). About, you guessed it, an engineering student and a dentist. Maybe this will be the FOTS we were all hoping for? Cast not fully announced yet but Fuse (the engineering student) played by Boom from the En of Love and might be the same character, in which case we can expect this one to be soft.

Heart by Heart

Half Toast Production adapting y-novel of the same name, the trailer is GOOD, and here’s an even longer one, I’m more excited for this one then I thought I would be. Has a bit of a Tasty Florida, jock/nerd, bad boy/good boy, high drama going on. Stars all unknowns but they look like decent actors. (Original trailer staring Gameplay is here, it’s now with a different production company, and new cast.)

I Feel You Linger in the Air

New Thai BL movie from the producers of Lovely Writer. This is a time travel historical romance. FROM THAILAND! H I S T O R I C A L ! ! ! Thai BL adaption of y-novel Violet Rains as I Feel You Linger in the Air has been cast and will be a MOVIE from WeTV x Dee Hup (producers of Lovely Writer). This is Thailand’s first historical BL set in the 1920s (time travel). The MDL listing has been updated with a plot description.

Intern In My Heart

Announced in February, starring Toptap Jirakit & Fame Chawinroj (the doctor in My Ride) in a WeTV production.

I Will Knock You

For Ch3Thailand starring unknowns, adapted from korean_rabbit's y-novel of the same name, directed by Champ Weerachit (2gether & Kiss Me Again) starring fresh faces. A college student and part-time tutor confronts the leader of a gang who then turns out to be his next student. College set student/tutor bad boy/good boy sunshine/grumpy younger seme pairing, enemies to lovers, bully romance? (I like these tropes).

For Amarin TV and KANTANA Group under Y Momen. Something to do with lucky cats and Japanese shrines.

Make a Wish

Fluke Natouch (OhmFluke UWMA etc...) & Judo (The Miracle Of Teddy Bear) to star in the upcoming WaGa Creative's medical-fantasy. Has had a read through, no trailer yet.

Middleman’s Love

(Formerly Middle Love) adapted from a Y-novel: office romance, friends to lovers, younger seme, self acceptance from reliable production house Mandee who dropped a teaser in 2021. Stars Jimmy Tommy (Why R U?, Close Friend, Peach of Time (not as a couple) and James (Beer in Oxygen) & Net (Bed Friend - see above). This pairing the specializes in soft, to be directed by Cheewin. Sigh. We saw them teased at the and of Cutie Pie so presumably they started this project next.

Plot: Jade works as a graphic designer and has always been stuck in the middle - average. His heart is hardened after a life spent being overlooked because he is not as charming or good looking as the rest of his family or friends. When his office gets a hot new intern, Mai, Jade assumes Mai couldn’t possibly be intersted in him. Instead he believes Mai is after his friend, Uea. Mai, of course, has other ideas.

Thailand’s version of Cherry Magic from their #1 softest ship? If script and production do even a half-arsed job it’s going to be adorable. Low heat and highly toothsome.

Motor-Cycle - delayed from 2019

Formerly known as Motorcycle the series, was supposed to release in 2019 and had a trailer, got bumped to 2020, and now? Who knows what’s up with this one. Dead I think.

Moonlight Chicken

Part of GMMTV’s 2022 line up, full trailer, director Aof has signed on so this is like to happen. Possibly not a romance, probably not BL, adult issues, self actualization, messy gays, cheating, soulmates? Stars EarthMix (1000 Stars, Cupid's Last Wish), First (The Shipper) and Khaotung (Tonhon Chonlatee).

Plot: Mix plays an openly gay character in a relationship with First’s character. Earth portrays a Chef who runs a restaurant while taking care of his nephew.

Apparently Thailand is entering Taiwan’s territory since this looks like a queer actualization narrative. Super smart of them to pick EarthMix for this style BL: messy gays being messy about life, love, and self acceptance. (However, do I think they can handle the high heat? Doubtful. Do I think GMMTV will bring the true high heat? Also doubtful. Case study? Friend Zone) Since this seems to be part of GMMTV’s "Midnight Series” dealing with darker themes like wealth gaps and social struggles, this might be a shorter piece. Good title. May not end happily.

My Engineer 2 - delayed from 2021

Second part of 2020′s My Engineer, continuation of the story arcs, but shifted focus to side couples (particularly RamKing). Filming was to start in April 2021, lockdown stopped it, so far just promo content. Many of the actors are now involved in other projects. Most of the support cast (except Mek) are expected to reprise their rolls.

My Lucky Cat

From Star Hunter, confusing but possibly about cat tribes (an old yaoi archetype) in a business setting, stars Dun (Thanu from Gen Y) and Bas (Wayo/Wayu 2 Moons, Gen Y).

My Only 12%

Y-novel adaptation (author Afterday - Bad Buddy) friends to lovers, from Studio Wabi Sabi starring SantaEarth (7 Project) about neighbors and childhood friends, Cake & Seeiw, who have totally opposite personalities slowly growing apart because of this. This one has the chemistry and the script so fingers crossed it’s not sad. To air on iQIYI.

My School President

Announced as part of GMMTV’s 2022 line up full trailer, this it their one high school set BL, with tropes like whipping boy, love triangle, and sing your feelings, it’s Love Sick + Korea and Japan's influence. Yes, we’ve seen it all before, but this is me: I never met a high school BL I didn’t want to grant a fair shake and I love me some whipping boy. Interesting to see such an old fashioned trope having a bit of a renaissance right now. All fresh faces in this one except Aun (Folk from My Gear).

My Tempo

BL collaboration series from The Brothers Thailand and Proxie Thailand with Chookiat Sakveerakul (Love Of Siam) to direct.

Never Let Me Go

GMMTV’s answer to KinnPorsche part of their 2022 line up, this is a mafia, attack dog (whipping boy + bodyguard), love triangle, obsession, suspense BL (full trailer), with Jojo of 3 Will Be Free to direct, so we know the action parts should be good. Stars PondPhuwin (Fish Upon the Sky), Aun (My Gear), and Chimon (My Dear Loser). Another dark one from GMMTV, not their strong point but this looks good but creepy. Feels a little classic yaoi with almost Japanese elements. I’m delighted to see Phuwin & Pond get a crack at something that’s not FUTS and of course Chimon ALWAYS makes me happy, since he’s one of my favorite GMMTV actors.

Nilundon - delayed from 2021

This is an ensemble of 2 BLs + 1 GL, featuring adult characters, cafe, grumpy/sunshine, rich/poor. It was postponed from 2021 to recast one of the leads, never a good sign. About a freelance photographer and heir to a famed Seoul hotel and restaurant business who, following a family death, returns to Thailand and meets a gregarious young barista. Side romances: producer is head-over-heels in love with her YouTubing bestie, and a veterinarian falls in love with the lead character’s impish cousin.

Past-senger AKA Pastsenger

Stars Marc (My Gear & Your Gown) and Copper (My Engineer) in a time slip story (90s kid travels to 2022) that seems a lot like a couple Kdrama’s I’ve watched only BL, so that’s cool. The show has a massive cast with popular actors like TIger (Top Secret Together), Champ Chenrach & Fluke Phisith (Siew Sum Noi) play side dishes. (Marc wasn’t in GMMTV’s 2022 line up, so he may have left after Bad Buddy.)

Past Love In The Future

The Sweet Robot

Has been cast but with predominantly unknowns, Sib from I am Your King is the only one I recognize. Supposed to have sf/f elements.

Tell the World I Love You: Friends Forever - delayed from 2021 (Movie)

So much for Perth (Ae from Love By Chance) never doing BL again (although that subtitle gives me bromance vibes). He’s opposite Bas (Wayo/Wayu 2 Moons, Gen Y) in this action movie which has completed filming. Was supposed to release to theaters April 2021 then January 2022, not... nothing new trailer here. Established director Poj, support cast include Bank (Gen Y) about two teens falling in love caught up in the world of gagsters.

The Theory series

University set but a couple of mature themes and decent acting, kinda like what FUTS should have been only pulpy. Stars Dome (2 Moons 2) and Benz (En of Love), and Ken (Tum in Lovely Writer who I LOVE). Looks like a classic Thai uni BL about a freshman boy who falls in love at first sight with a graduating senior. I think it’s En of Love stye, so three separate but equally weighted love stories from within a cross over friendship group. (trailer).

You Are My Favorite

Adapted from a JittiRain y-novel (2gether) announced by GMMTV in their 2022 line up, (full trailer): timeslip, university set, one night stand, rewrite the past to change the future, sunshine/tsundere. Stars Krist (SOTUS) + Mike (2gether, Tonhon Chonlatee) and splitting up two long established branded pairs. Daring move from GMMTV. Another timeslip? (That’s at least 5 from Thailand in 2022). Who knew Krist would do a BL again? Like seriously? Also, is this going to be actual BL? Trailer does feature some classic tropes: elevator, rooftop assignation, lie on ground. I suspect this was originally intended to be a SingtoKrist vehicle, but I like Mike, and it’s nice to see him get a lead. I find him a likable, highly-watchable screen presence. Neither actors nor GMMTV are known for kissing in the BL, so I think we can expect this one to be Korean style low heat. These two are IRL friends though.

You Light Up My Life Again

This is a colab project between Thailand's Studio Wabi Sabi and Mainland China, directed by New Siwaj for WeTV in Thailand and Tencent in China. Chen Wen played Yang Meng, the pretty fae bestie in Addicted Heroin (2016). Thai actors include Mark Siwat (Bite Me) who plays a het side dish, and Wabi Sabi stable actors: Boun (UWMA) and Yacht (LBC). To film at Dhurakij Pundit University known for having more students from China than any other Thai uni in the Mandarin language. (Promo Trailer) Rumor is it's a proper kissing BL but will be edited (censored) and not actually be distributed to China as such, to avoid censorship. Or it will be a bromance. Regardless, don’t trust this one to HEA.

Plot: Qin Jun Hao (Cao En Qi), born into a wealthy family with a passion for basketball, breaks up with his GF, goes Thailand to pursue his dreams. He rooms with Yuan Zhiming (Chen Wen), a poor kid determined to work hard with a scholarship to study at the Faculty of Music. They grow close. Their friends include handsome senior "Charlie" (Mark), prankster "Da Ya" (Hu Hao Fan) and the basketball player "De De" (Boun).

It is about a Buddy & Budder pair system that lasts for a semester. Budder has to take care of Buddy. (For the Americans out there it’s like secret Santa but in service.) The Budder knows the identity of their Buddy, but the Buddy will not be aware of the Budder’s identity. If Buddy guesses the identity of Budder correctly, the Buddy will not need to write a report and get full marks and have the right to ask the Budder to take care of them until graduation.

Tropes already in the trailer? The little yellow backpack (it’s New after all), OMG they were roommates, jock/nerd, piggyback, beach frolic, sing your feelings, freshy games, possible love triangle.

This is one of my favorites from this year (9/10). I’m not thrilled about this. It’s the same director as TMS2, and I didn’t like that one all that much. Still, I’m always intersted in where Korea goes when it’s given enough rope to hang itself.

Circumstances of Pungdeok Villa Room 304

To be adapted into an 8 ep arc (25 mins ea) about a happy-go-lucky third-generation chaebol who receives an ultimatum from daddy to: 1. Leave the house penniless and survive for 2 years; and 2. Achieve results as team leader in a new business venture. The owner of the villa he lands in ignores and disregards him. However, it turns out they work in the same company. Let the cohabitation office drama commence. Rumored to star the same pair as Kissable Lips - Korea’s first example of a co branded repeat pair. I liked them A LOT and am very excited about this show.

Eccentric Romance

From Silkwood (Peach of Time) about friends of 10 years who’ve been hiding feelings for each other enter the same university. Plus MURDER. It is already in production, stars former The Man BLK member Yoon Jun Won and Thai actor Save Saisawat (Ai Long Nhai). I begin to think every The Man BLK member will eventually lead out a BL at this point. This will be Silkwood’s second Thai/Korean colab but not their last.

Eul's Love

Adapted from a webtoon this is a reunion romance office BL.

Heesu in Class 2

Adaption of the comic by Lily, about a shy unpopular boy with a secret crush on best friend.

Comfort the Boy

(Adaptation of Dongmul's manwha webtoon A Shoulder to Cry On) to star idols Jaehan & Yechan BOTH from Kpop group OMEGA X in 12 ep run. School set, features a teasing confident gay, fake dating, and a rich/poor pairing, about homophobia/gossip putting a scholarship in jeopardy. Interesting that an idol company is allowing two idols from the same group star in a BL together. *danger will robinson” Due out in the fall.

Director Who Buys Me Dinner

This webtoon adaption is supposedly already filming about a new production house employee whose director (absolutely perfect in every way except that he seems to have lost his mind) claims to have lived three lives. Insists that they have to date if they don't want to die.

From Kidari Studio about 2 men who work with wedding events, grumpy/sunshine pairing.

Follow The Wind

Fucking-A.) who plays a rookie film star, called the Cat Prince (for his cold arrogance) who goes up against a charismatic puppyish director. There is also a side romance (love triangle?) with a veterinarian. What the hell is Korea going to do with Mew’s level of gorgeous high heat? Guess who else is in the cast? Lee Geon Woo AND Chu Ji Min AKA Geonu & JM of JUST B.

Love Tractor

Comic adaptation from WATCHA (Light On Me & Semantic Error) about a stressed-out law student who family obligations force into the countryside where a series of strange encounters and misunderstandings with his hunky young farmer neighbor commence. Will this be an extended version of Strongberry’s Some More? Or Korea’s take on Restart After Come Back Home? Either way I am SO EXCITED. Country boy meets city boy is a very underused romance trope in BL.

New Employee

Ffrom WATCHA (Light On Me & Semantic Error) rumored to star Choi Si Hoon (Netflix's Single's Inferno). Another office set BL.

Oh My Assistant

Acquired and cast about but this is a sexy one for Korea, about an artist who draws adult webtoons and spends most of his time horny because of it, who hires an assistant that turns out to be his biggest fan. I guess we’re gone see how Korea handles thirst.

Secret Relationship

To be adapted by Cradle Studio (subsidiary of Kakao). About clever and resourceful Daon who has worked hard to overcome being poor. His cheap ways annoy his coworker, Sunghyeon but after “an incident” with his parents, Daon grows closer to him. But Daon also has feelings for his former tutor. This has the signs of a classic Kdrama all over it: Office setting, love triangle, lead suffering for his self-actualization. I’m optimistic about a longer treatment. Read more about it here.

Space Bakery

From Silkwood (Peach of Time) about a spaceship that crash-lands into and destroys a bakery shop. Of course this means the alien and the baker end up living together. At the same time, other aliens-in-hiding all around the city start hunting for them. One of my most anticipated BLs. It sounds SO WEIRD.

Unintentional Love Story

To star Cha Seo Won and Gongchan (maknae of K-pop B1A4). All we know is it’s a “love story that started with a lie” about rebuilding trust.

From Result Entertainment (We Best Love series) about a dentist and his patient, a bar owner and a rebellious young man (who took the initiative even with a 12 year age gap!) script by Lin Pei who loves VERY traditional yaoi tropes (writer of HIStory1: Obsessed, HIStory2: Right or Wrong, HIStory2: Crossing the Line, HIStory3: Trapped, WBL, & See You After Quarantine?) Stars Andy Wu (Amensalism), Yu Jin, Michael Chang, and Alex Chou (composer/musician and the other bartender in WBL).

Egoist (2023)

One of my absolute favorite Japanese actors Hio Miyazawa (from His the movie) has the lead in this movie adaptation of Makoto Takayama’s autobiographical novel Egoist. He’ll be opposite super famous actor Ryohei Suzuki. This is about an openly gay but vein and superficial man (Hio) who falls in love with a personal trainer (Ryohei) who is stuck taking care of his sick mother. It’s not BL, it’s gay coming of age and we can’t expect it to end happily. Still, I’ll probubly try to watch it. Japanese movies are notoriously difficult to get ahold of, tho.

Kabesaa Doujin Sakka no Neko Yashiki-kun wa Shounin Yokkyuu wo Kojirasete iru

No English title yet Minamoto Kazuki's manga: starring Matsuoka Koudai (I know him from Five) and Nakao Masaki (Kakafukaka, Bow Then Kiss - he’s a BIG DEAL ya’ll) slated to be released in October. (source) The description from Crunchyroll is up on MDL but it’s incomprehensible.

My Beautiful Man: The Movie AKA Utsukushii Kare 2

I’m very nervous, I think that series stands alone and is perfect as it already is. I’m worried Japan is over egging the pudding. Meanwhile, My Beautiful Man won the Grand Prix “My Best TV Award” at the 16th Galaxy Awards.

Our Dining Table AKA Bokura no Shokutaku

Mira Ori's BLOVED manga (especially be me) is getting an adaptation! Lonely salaryman (talented cook) gets accidentally adopted by a college kid and his baby brother. They build a family together. This is a sweetly gentle and cozy manga and it will make a GREAT live action piece. I’ve recommended the manga in the past to anyone who likes BLs like Ingredients, To My Star, What Did You Eat Yesterday? and I think we are in for similar gay domesticity to Old Fashion Cupcake with this adaptation YAY!

Takara-kun to Amagi-kun AKA Takara and Amagi

AKA Takara-kun and Amagi-kun 8 eps about a popular guy and an outcast boy who like each other and start dating in secret. Premieres August 18 no word on distribution yet.

I’m not sure when Mega Blastoise is coming. Realistically, probably not anytime too soon.

I wasn’t lying when I said I was working on Mega Blastoise back then – I was. But I haven’t touched it in a long time; I have less free time to work on art for this blog, so when I do have time, Mega Blastoise just isn’t my priority right now. (I’m currently focusing on finishing up commissions and getting into Gen 9; Fuecoco’s line is close to being finished).

As for why I stopped working on it in the first place, Blastoise and Mega Blastoise are facing different directions, which makes the in-between for them more of a pain. After starting it, I really wasn’t satisfied with the direction it was going in and ultimately decided I’ll be making forward-facing artwork for Blastoise (like I did for Mega Sceptile) so that the in-between has more flow and the transition is more obvious. But doing that takes time away from something else I could be working on...

That said, I haven’t done all the other Mega’s yet. I still have Mega Steelix, Mega Metagross, Mega Latias/Latios, Mega Rayquazza, and Mega Diancie to do as well (and I’ve started most of them, too).

For Gen 1 to be “complete” to me, and ready to upload to Instagram and deviantArt (etc), there’s some more Pokemon lines I’d like to redo, including:

I haven’t forgotten about Mega Blastoise and the other Megas or remaining Gen 1 lines that I want to redo, I just have limited time and energy and am just one person! I will be keeping Mega Blastoise in mind and will try to get to it before too long, but please understand that I’m not just sitting around twiddling my thumbs ignoring Mega Blastoise for the sake of it.

I grew up in the change from pixel art to 3D and have nostalgia for bw, xy AND sm. So i think because of that, I can see the good and bad in all the games but don't feel like any of them 'peaked''. They're all different games, so they are really hard to compare.

On a related note tho, its so sad to see so many fans praise one of my childhood games and not the others. And like, I get it because gen 5 is more similar to what they grew up with.....but every time I say I love xy, sm and even swsh i get told they are terrible and usually imply that I shouldnt like them :/

That only happens online, though......irl all the fans ive met, no matter their ages, just say something like 'i didnt like it, but i'm glad you did!'. Growing up in irl fan spaces and having to move online during corona was AN EXPERIENCE omg

Yeah! It's super interesting how much we are affected by nostaglia.

There's usually a pattern you can notice with this stuff too. There are two lines that go up as time goes on. The one everyone talks about as being great and the newer one people hate on, usually to do with nostalgia of the now older original audience of the game.

My first Pokemon game was Colosseum, so gen 2/3 pokemon and gen 3 sound effects are pretty nostalgic to me.

Then I grew up mostly playing Diamond/Platinum/PMD2/Ranger2. I LOVED Team Galactic. I restarted the games so many times just so I could play through the story again with Cyrus and the Galactic Grunt theme. (I have also played through pmd2 many many times). I remember in my early teens seeing people on the internet hating on DPPt a lot and it making me sad. I recall someone saying that the gen 4 Pokemon sucked and I remember thinking "aw I guess they're right, some of these pokemon are really boring or annoying" and then I learned later that the pokemon I was thinking of were all gen 1 pokemon sdfkjsh

Gen 5 was hated when it first came out because it wasn't very fun for new players. I bet it also didn't help that the advertising for B2W2 was pretty poor and also came out after the 3DS did. I didn't even know it was a sequel until years later. That's why they went in the complete opposite direction for gen 6, and added gimmicks!

I have heard multiple people call the designs from gen 5 horrible over the years (And they're all wrong). Those comments are nowhere NEAR as frequent now, but they almost always come from people with nostalgia for the ones they grew up with.

I was 13 when BW first came out. I think I've only beaten it once, MAYBE twice. I'm not entirely sure why, because I was still replaying DPPt a lot. I would guess it's because the game is super linear in terms of gameplay and every playthrough will start exactly the same. You don't really get to make decisions on your team and how you play until later. Kid me loved the beginning of the main pokemon games the most because they were the most fun bits to play usually. So I suppose when you've already played it once, the beginning becomes quite boring.

And to compare. I did not like XY when it first came out. I was 16 and very against change and also my fav types at the time were dark and dragon so fairy type was the worst thing ever. I said previously that I really liked Team Galactic, so Team Flare was just a bootleg version of them to me. BUT I did immediately replay the game when I finished it. The character customisation plus the huge dex gives the game a lot of replayability. Because while I didn't like a lot about the game it was still fun to play, and it was the first time online was really accessible to me. I went back to 2013/2014 on my blog and there's SO much positivity about the game it's amazing! Over time people only remembered the bad parts and started hating it. I bet there'll be an influx of nostalgia for it before long. We can even see it in the hope people have for SV having Kalos DLC.

I need to replay sun/moon or play USUM because in my brain currently it sucks. But I'm very aware that that's because I only played it once, it's been years, and I played it when I started to grow out of Pokemon. So I'm excited to play it again now that I can appreciate it better. (Also the Sun/Moon anime is my fav so I have a lot of love for the characters now)

And finally, I loved SWSH! I didn't finish it the first time I tried to play it. Mostly because I spent HOURS trying to get a shiny hatenna before doing the fire gym skdfjhs. But then I SPED through the game with a bug type only run before Legends came out and I really enjoyed the story! One of those things that's more enjoyable if you're only focused on enjoying the story (and playing the game through with a joltik as the lead and trying to make sure they stay strong enough to beat the game with pfft) Also Leon was the first ever Champion I actually thought was cool and enjoyed seeing while playing the game (as ridiculous as his outfit is)

If I were to logically plot out the best for me based on how nostalgia works and taking into consideration that public opinion ABSOLUTELY influences me. I would have said BW was the best and XY(or SM) was the downfall, even though I had way more fun playing XY than BW as a kid
